Very simple yet effective tool. Does exactly what you'd expect it to, and more. The cabinet simulation is very easily turned on; simply press the button labelled 'cab-sim'. Signal too hot to manage? Simply depress one of the -20dB pads, and if it's still too hot depress the other one. Bit of ground hum? Hit the ground break switch.

Comes with a very well illustrated manual with diagrams of how to set the box up in many different arrangements.

Playing live with this baby is also a doddle, simply plug yourself in wth an XLR (as you would with a microphone) and feed it a bit of phantom power, and you're off!

One point deducted as it can either be powered by a 9v battery or phantom power, but not via a 9v power supply. Considering that this is designed for guitarists, a 9v PSU input would have made sense, and would also have made it easier to fit into a pedal board or rig.

Sound Quality : 10
This was the most astonishing bit.

I don't use an amp with this; I go straight from my pedal board into the input and don't use the output to cabinet. I have tried it with a marshall MG head in between but it doesn't seem to make any difference at all, other than adding another route to ground into the mix. My rig is as follows,

PRS Cu22 > Crybaby Wah > Germanium OD > Little Big Muff > GI100

Very simple set-up but very versatile also.

The GI100 has been an absolute god-send for live performances; rather than lugging an amp head and two cabs from one place to another I can just drop the GI100 into my guitar case and carry it with no extra effort required. Sound techs will however look at you a little funny when you're trying to explain that you want to DI your guitar, but they get there in the end. (Played live with this last night, sounded amazing).

This brilliant little thing also has the surprising trait of preserving all dynamic and tonal qualities of my set-up; from soft strumming to heavy picking, and from my gentle germanium overdrive to my distorted screaming muff, it all sounds as it should, even the wah sounds wide and creamy. The only short-shortcoming of the whole thing is that it chops a little of the high-end off. For that I deducted 1 point, but then I thought of how little noise it adds and how it is infact less noisy when at rest than any amp I've ever come across, and for that, I added that 1 back on.

I've also had great experiences recording with it; the high-end cut is infact a blessing in this respect as it makes the sound more pleasing to the ear, which is great for recording.

Very happy with this.

Reliability : 9
Built like a tank; very robust metal exterior with very well reinforced corners, as well as a little ground clearance as if to hold it in it's own little bubble; feel free to step on it.

Never heard it crackle, never had it unexpectadly cut out, and it can take enourmous signals before distorting, so it's highly unlikely to ever blow up in your face.

Giving it a nine, because if I gave it a 10 then fate would have it break tomorrow just to spite me.

Customer Support : 9
Never dealt with them. But you don't get to where Behringer are without being able to deal with customers. I should think a multi-national company like that would have a rather elaborate customer service division.

Once again, a 9 just to be safe. ;)

Overall Rating : 10
Very easy to use.

Well built.

Saves alot of time, effort, and money.

Less noise than a real cabinet.

Great sound quality.

Cheap as chips!

It's very easy to use,and the manual certainly helps. For awhile, I ran it straight in to my computer using an xlr to 1/4 inch cable, then a 1/8th inch adaptor on top of that into line-in. Works like a charm.

Sound Quality : 9
Let me make this very clear. IF YOU ARE GETTING GUITAR TONE BY EITHER MIKING YOUR AMP WITH A COMPUTER MIC OR USING THE DIRECT OUT OF YOUR AMP INTO YOUR COMPUTER, YOU NEED TO BUY THIS THING. That's basically what I was doing, and the tone for the money (about $35) is quite nice. The 4x12 simulation's pretty accurate, but doesn't have any adjustable features, but of course, I knew that. It's lacking a bit of prescence for me to give it a 10, but it definately made even my worst recordings with it sound a trillion times better than my best recordings without it.

Reliability : 9
The thing relies on a 9-volt or phantom power, so if I were giging with it and the place had phantom power, then yes, I would gig without a backup.

I think this is an absolutely necessary investment for anyone on a budget that's looking to record good guitar tone easily. If you read the manual, it even shows you how to use the thing for bass or keyboard, making this a great multi-purpose tool.

This DI is very easy to use if you are connecting directly to an xlr input with phantom power. If it clips hit the pad buttons. If you have hum try the ground lift. cab sim button gives you the sound of a 4x12 cab.

Sound Quality : 10
I was sceptical about what this box could do because of the low price and my generaly disapointing experiences with other speaker simulation devices. I bought it only to try the speaker sim. For $20 used I figured i couldn't really go wrong.

I have been very pleased and surprised by this unit. I use it with my hughes and kettner cream machine and it gives me the best direct sounds I have found so far. The H&K has a built in red box speaker simulator but I found it to dark and muddy. This box has allowed me to realise the sound the cream machine is capable of. It really only gives me one great direct tone. Between preamp distortion, power amp distortion and realistic speaker simulation even a pro sound engineer would never know they are not hearing a cranked marshall stack. Somehow it manages to takes away the fizz without killing all the sparkle and turning the sound to mud.

I also tried it with a few overdrive pedals and got good results. I much prefer this method to a pod or sansamp.

Reliability : 10
looks very tough. Made for live use so it should have no problem in a studio enviornment.

Overall Rating : 10
This is a great device that works well as a studio tool and could seriously save your butt if your amp failed at a gig.

I wish it was a little more flexible in the input and output sections (input, output level controls, unballanced out) and that it could run off a nine volt power supply.

Perhaps behringer will realise that most people are buying it for the speaker emulation and build a more featured dedicated speaker simulator rackmount. If they have the same guy design it I would certainly buy it.

Easy as heck to get a good sound assuming the sound you are suplying is good. Garbage in, garbage out. The manual is OK, it tells the best ways to utilize the unit. I originally used it as a DI for my guitar to go straight to the board after the effects chain. I have since changed and now it is in the speaker circuit between my amp and the extension cab (be sure to use the ground lift or you will torch your output). THAT sound is fantastic. It is much more clear, bright and articulate. The other way I had it, it was a little muddy. I use the phantom power from the board to power the unit which eliminates batteries and power supplies.

Sound Quality : 10
Sound quality is the best. I love not having drums bleed into my amp mic. The sound I get is just top notch. Even the guys in the band noticed the change. I use the 4-12 cab sim and have no noise problems. I only use a couple of effects and they too cause no problems. I use a Crate VFX 5112 with a 1-12 extension cab. The amp has JJ's tubes and a Celestion Neo Vintage and the extension cab has the Celestion Classic Lead. The DI is inserted between the amp and the extension cab via two 1/4" cables. We use in-ear monitors, so my on-stage volume is not too loud, but I still had to use both -20 dB pads.

Reliability : 9
So far, so good. It is made of extruded aluminum and the components are all mil-spec. I would imagine it to be very dependable. But since I have only used it for 3 months, I will give it a 9. I would and have, gigged with it without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them. We have other Behringer stuff and it has all worked flawlessly and with very good results.

Overall Rating : 10
My band plays Alternative Country Rock. I have been playing about 40 years. I own several other amps and guitars. Tons of effects. If it were stolen, I would track down the loser and make him eat the thing, then I'd go get another. I will never use a mic on my cabs again. It helps my music because I don't have to contend with all the drum bleed into my mix and other stage noise. It improves my sound in that respect. Also it is built like a tank. If you are considering a DI or micing your guitar cab, try the Ultra-G, you will be glad you did. For only $34, it is a great value!!

Easy, straight-forward. Plug in, juice it with phantom power, press the cab simulator switch and voila...

Sound Quality : 10
my guitar rig is as follows, Warmoth Custom Strat -> Seymour Duncan JB Jr. Bridge Pickup -> Planet Waves Chromatic Tuner --> Boss SD1 --> Boss EQ GE7 --> ehx LPB 2ube Pre-Amp --> Behringer GI100 --> mixer. i also record digitally with cubase sx on my mac g4.

firstly: very low noise floor, no distracting artifacts, very clean. it takes out the hum better than the silver behringer DI box did.

secondly: the cab simulator is amazing. it really went beyond my expectations. it sounds very round and warm with my setup. compared with the silver DI box, this feature makes a world of difference.

additionally, i use a short delay effect from my mixer. it results in very full guitar sound that i'm really really happy with.

Reliability : 9
the casing seems pretty durable and rugged. it's designed with live use in mind so i would depend on it.

i'm just hoping the phantom power function will hold up over time. we'll see...

i've bought and sold guitar gear for just about 10 years now. this red box completes my rig and i finally feel like i'm really satisfied with my tone to point where i don't need to add anything or use some computer plug-in.

i have used the silver DI box with my current pedal setup for awhile and it seemed like i was still missing something. but now with this it's the icing on the cake.

i really like it's simplicity and it's design. no tweaking needed.

amazing value at $35. i'd definitely buy this again if need be.

It's all pretty simple especially if you used a DI box before. Unpack, plugin, play.

Sound Quality : 10
This thing improved my sound through it's cabinet simulation. It really rounded out my distortion into a more tube-like quality as it took away from much of the solid state buzz that come from distortion pedals. I didn't find any noise being generated by the box itself as others have reported. They must be using it incorrectly, have a bad box or patch chord or be using it a bad area or loop with a bunch of other electrical noise.

Reliability : 8
I'm not sure as I've only had it for a day. We'll see with time however this thing appears to built sturdier than anything else I own. Heavy metal construction (no pun intended).

Customer Support : 8
Once again, I haven't had to deal with this aspect. Frankly at $65 CDN dollars I'm not to concerned.

Overall Rating : 10
Heavy music is what I play and this thing seems perfectly suited for it.

Straight out of the box, it is really simple to use.
Very low functions to set, it's just a DI with the nice addition fo a 4x12 speaker simulation.
If you know how a DI works, and if you know what XLR balanced connection and Phantom power supply means, you don't need anything to keep work this unit, otherwise the included documentation is really helpful. It's printed in ALL the languages available from the Behringer website, and it's clear, simple, well written (in Italian, at least) and with examples for the use of the unit.

Sound Quality : 7
I first used the DI without amp. Just plugged my old guitar, my beloved Yamaha RGX121D born in 1995, with no effects, and the other side straight into the mixer with XLR connection and the phantom power supply, so I've heard the result with hearphones.
I beg your pardon, but my neighbourhoods doesn't like any kind of noises... they call it noise!
First, between the guitar and the device I used a crap cable, just to hear how many noise it could eventually reduce.
I turned off the speaker simulation, turned on the volume on the mixer, and I've heard.. ZERO NOISES!
It seems incredible, but even with that crap cable, I didn't heard anything except the sound of my guitar straight into the hearphones and incredibly clean. I've louden mixer the volume to the highest volume, lowering the guitar volume to the minimum, and no noises were flowing from the mixer to the phones.
Probably it's due to the balanced connection from the box to the mixer, but this stuff is really quiet without the speaker simulation.
So, let's give a try to this feature: after switching it, the noise came back. Really few noise, ofcourse, just the same noise present with an actual mic in front the actual cabinet. Some very little hum and something like the environmental EMI trought the cable, but nothing more (or a bit less) than the usual and "traditional" mic.
The sound with this simulation sound realistic enough even without effects. A little bit of reverb will give it a more realistic taste, so I can only say that it isn't bad. Really good, really pretty good sound. Considering that I was using the guitar straight into the box, without amp or preamp in the middle.
So, let's try with effects: Wah CryBaby, Ibanez DE7 delay, behringer ultra-phase shifter and vintage tube overdrive.
No noises, without the cab simulation, but a very poor sound. Too bright, metallic, just like if I was using my setup in the "aux in" of my old stereo.
With the cab simulator, everything changes: there's a very nice sound, warm and middle-ish like an actual guitar amp. Surprisingly warm.
All the effects works just like you expect, like if they were plugged into the amp and you're listening from they with air between the cab and your ears.
I'll give a 7 giust because without the speaker simulation, the sound with effects is really bad.

Reliability : 7
Its rugged construction due to the solid metal case makes it look like a reliable stuff. I don't know if I'm right, but I really hope.
Prudence makes me give it a 7, just for the metal and solid case.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with Behringer. I'm using lots of stuffs from this company, and never had any problem.

Overall Rating : 8
I play rock, and this stuff matches the needs of rock players who wants to record its 100 Watt amplifiers at home, without beeing killed by neighbourhoods.
It helps me in building my home-record newbie-studio, after 15 of music without recording. My sound is always the same, no matter which amp or gear I use... I'm a luky guitarist :).
Ofcourse I'll buy it again if it were stolen.
I'm quite satisfied with it, but I need to try it again with the amp and loudspeaker tru it.
A good product, ofcourse, and nice alternative to amp-simulator: plug YOUR amp tru it, and you'll have your sound :).

There is only one on/off switch for this virtual 4x12 cabinet simulator, so extremely easy to use. Other switches include ground break, and two volume cut switches to prevent clipping.

The manual is straight forward~

Only bad thing is that it doesn't allow a power supply, so unless you use a power supply that have a connector like those for the 9V battery, you need to use the battery always. Also, the ouput is a XLR male output, so you need a XLR female to 1/4" cable for connecting other pedals. Of course, if you are just using this for recoring, I don't think it's a problem.

Sound Quality : 10
I actually use a bunch of different overdrive/distortion before this GI100, and it definitely fattens the sound and make your pedals much more versatile. For my personally, I hate those too high frequency for distortion (I shouldn't use a Marshall amp with a bunch of effects... since Marshall is usually too bright and not very stomp-friendly), so this actually cuts the high and make my distortion pedals sound like high gain stack amo with 4x12 cab.

Reliability : 10
It's built pretty tough and strong and I will definitely keep it in my rig always~
