As far as mixers go, this one is pretty standard. Three band EQ for each channel, a gain knob, a fader, and some aux sends that you can use for monitors or effects. I bought it used so I didn't get a manual with it, but Behringer had a PDF of one posted up on their website. The manual wasn't anything special, but it explains what the mixer does and gets the job done.

Sound Quality : 8
I don't use this thing a whole lot, but when I do use it, I'm pretty satisfied with the sound. The EQ controls fade smoothly and actually make a noticeable difference in the sound, and the built-in FX processor isn't half bad. I've never used it for anything other than the reverb models, but the other settings aren't terrible sounding. I'm not sure how practical some of the presets are, though--it seems kind of silly to have a flanger or a phaser for vocals or drums, if that's what you're using the mixer for.

The only complaint I have is that it's kind of noisy. When the main mix slider is up about three-quarters of the way, there's a noticeable background hiss. I've encountered this problem on most Behringer mixers, though--I don't think it's exclusive to this particular model. You don't notice it at all when sound is going through the mixer, but when it's quiet, you can definitely tell that there's a hiss. I'd probably give it a ten in this category if the thing wasn't as noisy.

Reliability : 10
Like I said before, I don't use this thing a whole lot. The main reason I bought this mixer was because I needed something with phantom power for my condenser microphones and there was a killer deal on this. It sits on my desk next to my computer most of the time, so it's not like it takes much of a beating. I've taken it to a few gigs and it's always worked flawlessly, so I'll have to give it a solid rating here.

Customer Support : 9
I've never dealt with Behringer directly, but their website is pretty good. They've got documentation, PDF diagrams, software downloads, and a bunch of other stuff too.

Overall Rating : 9
For the amateur recording I do and the few gigs I need to bring a mixer for, this thing cuts the mustard just fine. It's not an Allen and Heath or a high-end Yamaha or anything, but for what I use it for, it's more than sufficient.

If it was lost or stolen, I don't know that I would jump on another one of these unless I could find an awesome deal on one. I picked up an older Biamp sixteen channel board for $150 for my churchs' coffehouse about a month ago, and although it lacks the features of my Behringer, it blows it out of the water. All in all though, I would say this is a solid piece of gear. If you're looking for something that doesn't cost an arm and two legs and gets the job done, I'd recommend it.

Well, for this category, I'd have to say its failry easy to do what you want even if you don't know what you're doing. Very clearly labeled, and enough I/O plugs and holes to do just about anything. No separate monitor mix slider like the 18-channel one, but FX sends solve this. Manual is like every other manual these days. 3 different languages for 3 different product versions, and none of 'em worth using for toilet paper.

Sound quality was really good, until the smoke came out of it. It seems this one, like all other electronics, will also stop working if all the "mysterioius blue smoke" gets let out of it. Hooked everything up, turned it one (FOr THE FIRST TIME!!) and ...bzzzzt... there went all the smoke! If Behringer could add some sort of Ultra-Pro Smoke Retention Configurator gizmo to the other bells & whistles on this thing, it might be worth keeping. Can't really rate it for sound quality, cuz I never heard it.

Reliability : 1
As I said before, the smoke came out, so can't comment on reliability. One can assume, however, that if it detonates at its very first turn-on, catastrophic failure of a one that actually works, can't be too far down the road.

Didn't deal with them on this. Correcting the issue through the retailer, which I'm told is the best way to go.

I play in a Southern rock / Country band and bought this to complete our Live PA system. I should've bought any other brand than this one. All our other equipment is Peavey PR15N mains, Yorkville YP15 mons, QSC power plants, a dual 31-band eq, and now no mixer! Damn. Get something else. To giver credit where its due though, I'll say this. I own a Behringer 8-Channel Xenyx mixer and it works GREAT! Absolute little army-tank. Its the back-up, and came through when its big-sister died on us at practice.

Some of the unique 'features' are a little tricky, but if you read the manual and know how to work mixers in general, this unit is fine. My manual was a little tricky though, since this same manual addresses three different mixers with different sections. As I read, I'm constantly trying to determine if this applies to my particular model. Still, if you really know mixers, you probably don't even have to open the manual for most operations.

Sound Quality : 9
I originally bought this mixer to use only as a 10-input pre-amp to go direct out to my digital recorder, (which has less-than-stellar input specs at high gains). Frequency response, THD and noise are all very good. From an engineering perspective the input mic channels are very respectable! That alone made this board worth the 340ish us dollars. The rest of the board is pretty clean also, and loaded with features for the price. And they fit all that into a standard 19" rack. OK, some of the internal effects are a bit too noisy to use, so I just pretend it's not there most of the time and go to external fx processors. Some of the effects are useful in moderation though, to add a lil' reverb or chorus or some special effect here or there. And you can't beat the convienence of on-board effects, one less thing to carry around and hook up.

Reliability : 3
I've heard too many stories about behringer stuff failing and it scares me. My mixer has a dead gain knob on channel 2 - you can turn it all day long but it's stuck at minimum gain. I've never bothered to get it fixed because either I use it as a snare mic input (which is fine at min. gain) or with all the other available channels, I just don't use channel 2. This is only an auxilliary sub-mixer for me that doesn't get alot of road use and abuse. So my particular problem is only a minor annoyance, not a critical failure.

To be fair though - my Mackie mixer bit the dust also - and those are supposed to be tough. My mackie never left the studio, and it failed to the point of un-usable, so mabye Behringer wins this round!

Well, if I needed another portable mixer, I guess I'd get this one again - still the best deal for the price without sacrificing sound quality. But since I have mixers comming out my wwwwwww, I'd go for a dedicated 8-channel pre amp to save space and weight since I take it on the road. It's best feature is the number of features. Don't ever get a mixer for what you need today, because tomorrow you'll need "just one more input" or "just one more send". Behringer makes it possible to afford to get a mixer you can grow into. For the most part, you can probably get two of these for the price of the 'professional' brands.

Came with easy to understand manual.
FX's were easy to use, though like nearly all factory setting FXs, most were worthless. This is true of all brands, not just Behringer.
The FX adjustment evens out the tones well enough.
The on deck light option does a good job.
The signal is fed two directions;
1. Behringer 4 way splitter then into several amps and assorted PAs and subs. All instruments are DIed.
2. power amp for stage monitor system.
It sounds great, was easy to set up and easy to run.

Sound Quality : 9
Yes, some of the FX's were noisy. However, once I learned to use them in moderation (which is how all FX's should be used) it was all good.
Keep in mind, all intruments DIed into a mixer will usually have their own FX. We assigned the FX at individual levels to the vocal mikes only. This was easy, effective and noiseless.
In my previous band, I used one mike channel with heavy mixer FX's to help obtain a death metal, cookie monster type back ground vocal. My band mates loved it. For all the distortion and such, it really did not have as much noise as I had expected.

Reliability : 10
My unit is 3 years old and sees 3 to 6 gigs a week, traveling in a box utility trailer. It operates 8 vocal mikes, 2 ambinant drum mikes, 2 keyboards, 1 bass, 1 CD player now but has done a full set (7) drum mikes, 3 guitars, 1 bass and 2 vocal mikes in a previous band. It has taken an awful beating and was even used by a now unemployed drunk sound tech to hold a few beers. I have seem much costlier mixers fall apart under such abuse. It just takes the abuse and keeps on thumping. Must be some sort of German S&M thing.
Now it is bolted to a mobile console on wheels, with covers and protection. Your equipment is your best friend.

Never needed it.

Overall Rating : 10
Best mixer for the price, which is why I bought it. This was my first Behringer product and lead me to purchase several more varied items from them.

It was origianally used by a small venue type death metal band (my head is still ringing) but is now being used by a Black Contemporary Gospel band and vocal group. It has done it's job well and at a fantastic price. I plan to buy a new mixer, but only because we need something bigger, like 40 channels. We plan to stay with Behringer. This unit will be moved to recording use.

Had noise from keyboards channel. Working with this mixer, I discovered the noise was actually in the keyboards. Fine tuning the mixer got rid of the keyboards inherant noise and brought out the best of it's sound and FXs.

It did a great job in dialing out feedback in "hard" venues.

We use the FX only on the vocal mikes, since all the instruments have their own FX. Just a small dab of chorus or something like that gives the vocals a great sound outdoors or in.

With Tweaking good sound is not a problem. The manual is for this series of boards, a manual for just this unit would be better. Not a hard mixer to run, do some home work and experiment and this board can accomplish a lot.

Sound Quality : 9
I run almost everything to this mixer. I've heard complaints about noisy effects, digital or analog effects will be noisy if you have your settings set wrong. I am getting nearly undetectable noise even at high volumes with the effects. Dial the FX in wet all the way first, ease up the master up to the point of very slight noise then back off a little, then ease up the channel FX dial to your desired sound, and you'll get great effects without noise. The EQs are very responsive, the preamps are good , plenty of gain, and tons of connectability. Good for recording. Lots of bang for the buck.$$$ I gave this a 9 just because there are better mixers out there, but not at this price.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've had good luck with behringer products in the last six years. This mixer is a new item at this time. I do have friends with UB mixers and they are still working fine after about three years.

This is a good mixer with many great features and room to expand. If it were stolen I would want a new one or something comparable. The price is great. I find it extremely useful. Very nice

This small console is about as easy to use as shoes are to put on feet. Only complaint I have is the lack of bold, legible print contrast against the reflective aluminized finish. The small, light typeface is easily lost, making quick reference to anything rather time consuming and less quickly responsive, operationally.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
Most of the noise is due to efx. Way noisy, and would only be useable in a live gig where less noticed. Useless for recording unless you want efx monitoring, but recorded dry. The pre amps are very quiet, and very useable, though not the greatest gain available. The rest of the path is very quiet as well.
Fidelity is very good, and makes me wonder how they do it at price point it's at. go figure.

Reliability : 8
If it went down during gig you'd be screwed without a backup of some sort. Though having it about a year now, I've had not problem one, and I use it for practicing quite a bit. Seems extremely reliable.
Of course I couldn't call it a pro unit as one can't obtain schematics. A cursory mandated requirement as I do my own servicing on most pieces I own. Though design is simple enough to fix without it.

Customer Support : 1
I had a comp. of theirs and they refused to supply schematics. B.S. support, as far as I'm concerned.

Overall Rating : 7
Give me efx I can use, or dump 'em. I have a good deal of experience with these mixers (I own (4)different models) They make a good sub mixer, but beyond that they are average. Good flexibilty, but wish all channels had mic pres. Value-wise: try to beat 'em. Good luck on that point.
