Overall ... it'd dead simple to operate. Editing patches is a breeze, although it is not immediately obvious that there are "hidden" parameters, accessible only by using an external MIDI controller or the V-Amp Design software.

Sound Quality : 9
I am using a Line6 Variax 500 with the V-Amp (oh the unholy alliance that is, eh?) and the combination is killer. I can go from a 12-string acoustic with a lush chorus and delay for a "guitar pad" to a crunchy Les Paul to a really "spanky" Strat or over to a clean 6-string acoustic at a moments notice. It's a beautiful thing.

I have friends with PODs ... let's be honest here. The POD sounds better on some things, the V-Amp sounds better on others. Whatever.

I play almost exclusively directly into a P.A., and use floor monitors so I can hear myself. The fact that the V-Amp has BALANCED outputs makes a huge difference ... no need for a direct box.

The "POD or V-amp running direct to the board" concept goes against the grain of many guitarists, who will always want the Marshall or Rectifier stack behind them. My opinion: the benefits FAR outweigh the negatives.

Reliability : 9
I have heard so much about Behringer's famed lack-of-quality. Having friends who work for Mackie, Yamaha, Roland, etc. ... and having purchased a few Behringer items "for inexpensive backup", I can say that my experience is that these fears are largely unfounded. Almost everyone is moving over to Chinese manufacture. I've had ZERO problems with the Behringer products, which is more than I can say for several other brands of music products I use.

Standard precautions apply: Check it out COMPLETELY when you get it home. Use the hell out of it for a week or 2 to torture test it. Don't drop it off of a loading dock onto a hard cement floor.

Customer Support : 8
No need ro deal with Behringer directly. They seem to have a well-organized (if somewhat slow) website.

A snap to set up and use. Not a brain strain to hook up. The manual is well written, and has some good technical information in it, though it could be a bit more descriptive about the amp models and a LOT more descriptive about the cabinet models.

Behringer had their thinking caps on when they put the controls together. The ring-of-LEDs-around-the-encoder approach allows fast and easy adjustments with instant indication to coexist with memory recall settings while avoiding expensive motor controls for the knobs themselves. Simple but brilliant. When you recall a preset, you can instantly see where most of the settings are. The only reason I don't give them a 10 in this category is the shortcuts they made with a few of the parameters, like where you have to hold down the Tap key while turning the Treble encoder to adjust the Presence. I'm not a big fan of two handed operation while my guitar head swings around to bump on the desktop. I'd also like to have a string of LEDs that indicated the Cabinet model, but you can't have everything for this price.

Sound Quality : 8
It sounds good! No complaints from me about the sound quality, but I have definitely heard better. I borrowed a POD xt from a friend for a week and I think it edged the V-amp out in tone. Not being a real guitar aficionado, so I'm not dead set on the ultimate tone at the expense of everything else (like price and convenience). What I do want is a way to make my sound appropriate to whatever I'm practicing. And to have fun. Let us not fool ourselves; this is a toy. A very nice sounding toy.

Reliability : No Opinion
What can I say? I haven't dropped it or kicked it out the window, and it hasn't broken. OK, one thing: I had it on the California Clean amp model, I think, and I dialed in one of the combination effects, hmm... was it phaser + delay? Anyway, I had the Tap tempo turned way up to stumble my way through some cool Andy Summers stuff, and the effects were going unstable. I unplugged the guitar cord from the V-amp and it was still churning out a sound something like a loose instrument cable on the period of the Tap tempo. In a month of casual use, this is the only problem I've yet had. Like I said, it's a toy; I would never use it to gig.

Customer Support : 8
Though I haven't had any dealings with Behringer myself, our lead guitarist did deal with them about a faulty DSP mixer. They sent him a new one before receiving the return, so I'll rate them well.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for years, but I'm not what you'd call a good guitar player. I can play just well enough to impress non musicians, as long as I sing at the same time. I've got an Ovation Deacon and a tiny little 15W Crate amp at home and a Line 6 Spider II 100W 2x10 combo in the band garage. I needed a preamp at home for solo practice that gave me enough flexibility to set myself up somewhere close to the songs we're covering. I need to be able to play the guitar through the little amp and the CD through my stereo when nobody cares, but also be able to switch the CD and guitar to headphones when people are trying to sleep.

The auxiliary input is the feature that sold me on this unit. I had just about decided to buy a POD xt when I borrowed one and realized how difficult it would be to work with headphones (for the occasional insomnia jam session). Since I don't want to add to my clutter with a separate mixer, the mere existence of a volume controlled auxiliary input is essential to me. So much so that the dual 1/4" phono plugs (instead of a pair of smaller RCA connectors) hardly bothers me at all. I can switch from amp/stereo mode to stealth mode by turning off the stereo and amp, turning up the auxiliary input level, and donning the headphones.

Let's talk about interconnectability. I can understand the appeal that the MIDI standard has when incorporating your new amp modeller into your professional studio setup. And for the V-amp Pro, that's a great feature to have. But for a desktop toy, there is absolutely no reason that I can see to have two separate 5 pin DIN connectors when you could have one USB port taking up a quarter of the real estate! For most users, like myself, with no MIDI systems in place, these necessitate the added expense of buying a Midiman to be able to manage our presets via computer. Thumbs down on the MIDI, the second worst aspect of the V-amp.

And now, let us consider the design. I can't believe somebody thought this was a good idea. I'm embarassed to show my Playskool guitar processor to friends. A bit superficial of me, perhaps... but wait. Not only do you have this dumb looking blue Les Paul piece of doodoo sitting on your desktop, but also because it has no straight edges, all your connections splay out from it like a poorly conceived H. R. Giger rip off. You hook it up and it doubles its demands on your work space! Oh, to have a rectangular black box with the connections in the back and the knobs arranged logically (I mean, just look at all that unused front panel area)... you might even be able to put a couple more dedicated controls on. Imagine that. It could even end up looking like something an adult would own.

To end on a positive note, let us speak of value. All my complaints seem a bit less serious when you consider the $140 price tag (well, say $175 including the Midiman). You get models for three truck loads of amps and cabinets, and a passenger seat full of effects. And can you say included footswitch? Hell yeah! You plug it in and play, and it works and sounds great. Technology kicks ass. Buy one.

Ease of Use : 10
The Ease of use category can best be described as extremely easy. The knobs are clearly labeled Gain, Treble, Mid, Bass, Volume, Master Volume, Effects, and Reverb. The knob in the left center is the amps to choose from. The amp models are all clearly labeled and all have an incredible distintive sound. Editing patches is easy in that all you have to do is turn the knobs to the desired settings test the result and if you like the sound save it to V-amp 2. Any manual is overrated for the guitarist. The best bet for finding that incredible tone hidden in the blue box is to adjust the setting one at a time, until you have achieved tonal bliss.

Sound Quality : 10
The amp that I use is a Crate GFX-65. The guitars that I use are Fender Fat Strat, Epiphone SG, B.C. Rich Warlock with EMG-81 pickup in the bridge position, and a Lotus Fender Strat replica. The other effects I use are Boss MT-2 Metal Zone, Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer, Ibanez SM7 Smash Box, Digitech RP-300, and a Morley Mark Tremonti Power Wah. The unwanted noise level is minimal and if the unwanted noise level is to harsh the V-Amp 2 has built in noise gate to cancel out any unwanted noise feedback. Every effect in this unit is crisp and tonally correct to my ears. The main setting that use and recommend to anybody who buys this unit is setting the amp model to classic clean, Gain to 127, Bass to 60, Mid 100, Treble 126, Presence 127, Turn Drive On, Cab Model to 4x10" V-amp Custom, No Modulation, and No Reverb (use the reverb on your amp instead) set reverb to whatever, sound best, now for the ultimate secret in tonal bliss. Once you have all that programmed in connect you guitar to an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer and then run the output jack to the Behringer V-Amp 2. The TS9 Tube screamer should be set to Drive 10, Tone 10, And level 10 (adjust volume on amp or V-Amp 2) doing all this creates the most intense AC/DC sound you could ever imagine. I honestly feel like Angus Young when I use this setup. Another detail is to use the noise gate to cancel out any unwanted noise. Also, use clean channel on amp, of course, and set Bass to 2, Mid to 10, and Treble to 8.5 or 9. Doing all this will get an extremely bright Marshall Amp rock tone.

Reliability : 8
I have gigged with it once, so far. I used the above setting with a B-52 LG-100 Half Stack to achieve Angus Young's signature Tone. When I used the above setting it brought the house down. My band and I covered Back In Black, You Shook Me all Night Long, Highway to Hell, and Hard as a Rock. The Tone was outstanding. The reliability, though, I don't believe would be great due to the fact it is made out of plastic; however, no problems on my end.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never used it.

Overall Rating : 10
I mainly use it for the above setting only; however, I have used it for recording and it has some great rock and heavy metal distortion. Distortion and Overdrive is all I am interested in, so I do not know about the clean sound it produces; however, the distortion is quite great.

The interface is very well designed for quick changes to patches but if you are going to make up your own then you really need to read the manual, this doesn't take long but is necessary to learn how to create the exact effect you want. I left the manual in the box when i got the v amp and only recently learned how you change some of the settings such as switching it to live mode and getting even more distortion!! Only now have i realised its full potential! when playing live it does sound crappy in the original mode, but if you read the book you can change this easily. using the dials is straight forward as it has brightlty coloured lights so if your familiar with the interface you can change settings on a dark stage. It does have an annoying button called "tap" (also second function -like shift key) which could have been placed better on the unit - you need both hands to change to one of the other 16 amp settings which ends up in the headstock of your guitar bashing into things! Also to get the most out of the effects and programming qualities you need to use your computer and buy a couple of midi cables which cost a fair bit!

Sound Quality : 9
As i said the studio setting sounds crap live - this sounds obvious but may be a reason for other reviews bad scores. It has five settings to suit different situations and set ups, and with the two live ones it sounds great! it has a huge range of different sounds from pretty much any kind of amp ever recorded with. These can be tailored in many ways, EQ, gain, effects, presence, reverb etc to make exactly the sound you want. This is within reason however because unfortunately it doesn't have a pitch shifting effect or decent wah, i would have paid extra for an expression pedal with these features. the stuff that it does have are good though. You can tell the difference if you put it next to a good valve amp but the versitility by far makes up for it.

Reliability : 6
Unfortunately my original v-amp malfuntioned after 4 months and made a horrible wah sound and would save patches properly, i now have a new one that will do everything perfectly. If something like memory patches being erased were to happen on a gig it wouldn't be a problem because it only takes 2 mins to program a couple. not many others seem to have had problems with behringhers equipment.

Customer Support : 8
i emailed about problem above and they didn't know! hard to give an accurate score on this basis

Overall Rating : 10
Really good unit especially for the price, and you get a case for transporting it as well as room for some other gear. easy to use with the foot switch to change patches. wish it came with midi cables. Website is great for downloading other peoples patches. Can be used for any style of music, from death metal to pop.

Behringer manual is helpful. You have to read it to choose correct operation mode, use correct outputs and so. Comes with nice bag and footswitch. But you have to use it few hours to really get into it.

Sound Quality : 9
My setup is:
Stratocaster >> Boss BD-2 >> Electro Harmonix BIG Muff >> V-AMP2 >> 50 watt tube amp armed with Weber Alnico Blue Pup and Weber Alnico Silver Ten. I don't think it is noisy. It is much less noisy than ZOOM pedals. And it has quite intelligent noise suppressor.
To the amp simulations:
Clean simulations (right side) are almost all perfect. As you try to crank the virtual amps, some get digital crankie effect which is not very pleasing but usefull when combined with tube amp.
Left side simulations are almost all bad (at least for my ears). They may sound good on record, because cd is digital anyway so it ruins sound on its own.
To the effects: Rotary is crap for me, the rest are fine. Nice chorus, great delay.

My amp is custom hand made amp and it is not typical guitar amp. It has no sound filters, only 2 band EQ and volume. It is the V-AMP 2 which makes the amp sound like amp. And it does that job very well.

Reliability : No Opinion
Never had problems with it, but I heard weird things.

Customer Support : 1
I wrote them many times. No answer. Yahoo group V-AMP is better way to consult things.

Overall Rating : 7
I play U2 like rock. I use left side simulations and they serve me more than well. I play for few years now, heard many rigs and gigs on them. If the V-AMP2 was stolen it'd take me a month to figure out the sounds again, since I didn't got MIDI conncetin to PC to work. But that is (I believe) falut of cheapo onboard sound card.
I can't imagine playing without V-AMP2, but if your style is metal I'd go for a Line 6 POD. It has much better distorted sounds. I even preffer Zoom GFX-707's distortions and overdrives more than these. That's what I have analog distortion pedals for. I wish it sounded better on dirty settings. But that's neverending issue I guess.
I give it a 7 overall because of bad simulations of Marshall.

Its well easy to use and sounds great! You can easily pick up how to use it fully in a day or two. What with all the pretty lights and a really useful manual. I love it when you switch it on and all the lights blink!

Sound Quality : 9
I've got a fender Tom Delonge Strat and a Fender 60W amp. The distortion is excellent, you have a range of amp simulations and cool effects such as wah, phaser and theyre all adjustable - as is everything else!

Reliability : 3
Don't take it round to anyones house or gig without taping it to somthing cos it breaks well easity. Dont be roungh with the knobs on it or spill anything on it. I learned the hard way - and now it doesnt work anymore, but im gonna get it back on insurance- hopefully!
Not very reliable. But if you treat it well then it 'll be fine im sure.

Customer Support : 2
They are based in another country and have nothing in england which sucks for a start. If it breaks, and you live in england, then you're screwed

Overall Rating : 8
Overall its well worth getting, and its relativley cheap. I would advise anyone who is thinking of buying some expensive amps or effects pedals to go for this instead cos its got it all! Just dont be rough with it!

When I first got my V-amp2, I thought that it would be a hell to get to know how to work this thing. But when I read the manual and played with it for a while, it seemed much easyer then I thought it would be. So this was no problem at all.

Sound Quality : 10
Here we go!

I think this modeling unit sounds really good. When you get to know how to use this thing, it's a whole world of possibility's.
I have used it to record directly in my pc, wich sounds great with the speaker sim. on, but until today I never really tried it with a real amp.
So I hooked it up with my Randall RH100 half stack, and switched it to the L2 mode (without speaker sim.) and it sounded really amazing!
I'm a huge Dream Theater fan, so I checked the Rectified gain.
It sounds awesome!
I surely am going to use this baby when I play gigs from now.
Sounds waaaay better then my amp's distortion.

My set up is:
Ibanez RG1527 - Boss Pw-10 wah - Digitech whammy - V-amp2 - Randall RH100 half stack.

Reliability : 6
Just make sure that you don't drop it or anything,
then it will be fine.
It is kind of fragile.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt with them

Overall Rating : 10
Damn good.
I advise all of the complaining people to try out some different configuration modes and stuff,
just play along with it.
It really works and sounds great, I'm sure of that!

C'mon, this is really easy. A knob for every parameter...an LCD pointer for every setting...it doesn't get easier than this.

Sound Quality : 10
Well, here's the thing, I don't gig, it's home studio recording only, so I can't tell you what this thing sounds like thru an amp that will color the signal. I own a Parker Fly Supreme, a '73 Hofner Blonde, Cordoba FCWE, Gibson Hounddog Dobro and a dozen or so budget axes. Here's a simple truth...crappy guitars sound crappy. That being said, for the folks who think that the v-amp is noisy...my advice is to buy a decent guitar. The sounds are of excellent, I mean excellent quality. I tried this thing out for the hell of it (it's cheap enough), and got way more than I expected. Gain maxed, volume maxed....no noise from my better sheilded humbuckers; that's my test, and this model passes.

Reliability : 9
It's safe enough on a desktop or amp, and I can't really see it "shattering", what a stupid thing to say...it's made out of PVC, not glass. It even comes with a footswitch, so you can keep it out of the way after initial adjustments. Honestly, I think it would bounce if it hit concrete...it's light as a feather. The knobs feel a little cheap, so it gets a 9, but I haven't had trouble in 5 months of playing with it.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I'm writing this review because this kind of product should be supported. Behringer is producing great quality and selling it for 1/3 the competitor's price...GO BEHRINGER!..let's have more of this. I love guitar music...every kind. I play flamenco and 80's rock, jazz and blues. I've tried every combination of amps and settings, there's no style or sound I haven't been able to dial up. (the auto-wah is really, really responsive to technique) By the way, some dork said he couldn't find a blues setting....turn down the treble and up the gain with some compression, and bang, just like that, you ain't got no wooomun. THis product is excellent..and as far as bang for the buck is concerned..it is one of the rare few that deserves a 10.

It is not plug and play - you have to sit down and study the manual. Once you know the basics, it's a breeze to call, modify, store sounds.

Sound Quality : 9
The clean sounds are great over headphones, desktop speakers and straight to a guitar amp.
I mainly use for the distorted sounds and it just gave me the peace of mind of not having to use pedals ever again! The noise gate is good (don't go past value 5 or 6 otherwise it will cut the sound too abruptely)however don't expect long singing sustained notes as in a real cranked up amp!
The hi gain amps, Rectified Hi Gain, Brit Hi Gain, etc. are quite convincing. I don't bother if the purists say that the real amps sound better! Of course they do! But I'd rather have 32 "convincingly similar" virtual amps in my gig bag (consider the price you paid for it)than breaking my back carrying around 1 or 2 real amps.
The direct recording sound with speaker simulation is good but I'd rather mike an amp to get a better sound - I'm using the speaker simulators on with the clean channel of a Marshall JTM 30 (valve) and it sounds superb!

Reliability : 10
Definitely I'd use on a gig. However it requires extra care on transport and handling. Make sure you place it on a spot that nobody will step on it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't needed customer support yet.

Overall Rating : 10
I mainly play rock / heavy metal and it definitely delivers!
I'd played for over 20 years using analog pedals and valve amps.
The noise was my main problem now I can use hi gain sounds without the hum. I'm using DiMarzio PAF humbuckers on an Ibanez EX 350.
What I love about it is the ease of setup and pack up on rehearsals and gigs. The only thing I don't like about it is the footswitch - it should allow you to change the banks as well which has to be done manually - the footswitch only allows to change the sub-banks (A to E) also the absence of a main power switch is another flaw. The DC power supply plug looks very fragile and not easy to find (looks like a PC mouse plug instead of the traditional 9v plug - maybe because it needs more than one voltage value to operate, just like PC hardware).
Overall I'm very happy with the purchase. I've read many people's reviews complaining about the silent gap between one sound to another. Here is a good hint: use the same amplifier model for each bank - then the change of settings such as volume, gain, effects, compression are real time. For a particular amp model I'll use the clean sound with chorus for sub-bank A, and spread through different levels of gain and reverb over sub-banks B to E - done! The silent gap is inevitable - think of it as a PC; changing amp models requires changing directories, if you stick to the same directory, in this case amp model, you'll only change the parameters within the same directory and the response to the footswitch is immediate.

Real easy to use, but read the manual to have a good idea of what's on offer and how to access/alter some not so obvious parameters. By the way, I don't understand why some people complain about the manual... but maybe those are the type of people for whom "caution: contents may be hot" in coffee cups are written for :-)
It really is simple to read/understand.
The usage of leds to have a visual indication of where the knobs are in each patch is a touch of genius. I have used other modellers and it always annoyed me that the actual knobs do not reflect the settings... the V-Amp elegantly overcomes that by using leds... brilliant.

Sound Quality : 8
Pretty good!
First of all, ignore the presets. Make your own.
I like a lot the Marshalls (both the JCM800 and JTM45), which give you a very wide range of sounds from almost clean to very high gain. The "Drive" switch alters the character of each amp a lot, don't forget to experiment with it!
I find all sounds I want here, nice cleans, soft gains, bluesy, rock, metal... anything.
High gain can be a bit noisy (who would be surprised???) but the noise gate is effective, if not the best, it works well.
For headphone use and recording it's really excellent, especially considering the price!
It can also sound pretty good through a power amp, but not through a normal guitar amp. If you use a guitar amp, connect in the FX-in socket, not at the front.
I think the people who complain about how bad it sounds live is people who are programming a sound that sounds great on headphones, or at low volumes, and then expect that simply turning the volume up is going to sound the same just louder. It doesn't work like that. Not even in a normal amp. so: set it up at the volume you will use it.
The FX are not the best, but are useable. However, if you're keen on FX, you're better off getting separate FX. I mainly just use the compressor and reverb, both of which are just fine for me.

Reliability : No Opinion
Use it as a desktop modeller, and it'll be fine. It's not build for the road... plastic case.
As for the problems other people mention: resetting itself, erasing memory and giving poor sounds... replace the internal battery! That cures it. There's no mention of it in the manual, which is weird, but it uses an internal battery that causes all sorts of mayhem when it's starting to fail. It's very easy and cheap to replace, and last a long time (I had to replace mine after two years).

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I have tried other modellers, and the V-Amp makes me happy the most. The newer Vox Tonelab is very promising, but I haven't tried it yet. However, I can but 3 V-Amps for the price of a single Tonelab...
The sounds are good, easy to use, the leds give me the info I neead about each patch at a glance (unlike all others except PodXT apparently, and still, the XT has this tiny display... V-Amp's solution is the most elegant). The V-Amp is a great tool for recording and playing at home without waking up the neoighbours, playing alone or with CDs/backing tracks thanks to its aux input...
Just ignore the presets, and have a look at the manual to get the most of it. It can do all kinds of sounds, from clean to insanely high gain... and the free PC editor works a treat for storing presets and editing complex patches... Highly recommended. At the price they go for, there's simply no question: it's fantastic value.

if your vamp resets its time to change the battery..it dies every 10 months or so...it costs less than a dollar and you can change it every 4 months and you are always secure!!!.

i have been playing for 12 years..i got an epiphone custom, a custom strat style guitar, a tele, a darmond baritone, a steinberger bass.
i used with my roland synth.
if its stolen, i find the guy who stole it and kill him!!..sure, i ould buy another one.

the marshall jcm800 is outrageous.,

compared to POD is far good..and compared to real amps, well, the real ones sounds better, but i cant bring 32 amps with me every night!..i mostly use only the marshall...i dont dont want to carry it neither

i only miss one thing: pitch shifter.

as others have said, you gotta know the manual just to figure out the basic operations. The manual does explain it but even then you have to decipher what it means

Sound Quality : 5
I currently run a Yamaha pacifica --> v-amp 2 ---> Randal RG75. The sound quality is junk if you run it with amp simulation. When you do run it with that, you switch presets and there is a 2 second delay. That doesn't work when your gigin with it. The delay works, but it is only basic. Same with all the other effects. Noise gate comepletely steals your sound so you have to bear with the fuzz the whole time.

this is where the thing really lost my vote. I went to a gig and plut it in and all my presets were ereased. I looking into in tht manual how to erase all the presets and it was not done that way. all i did was just pluged it in. So that screwed me over. Get home the next day and try to fix it and reset my presets. Now all the tones are messed up, even without cabinet simulation.

haven't tried dealing with them yet. I might try to sell it on ebay then pick up a bunch of Danelctro's or boss or maybe the digitech RP200. I'm going to go back to my dealer and see what he can do

I play basicly anything my ear likes. This thing was fine until it went on the fritz. I've been playing for 4 years now. If it was stolen i would have a party because it is just a waste of my time. It is similar to a Digitech RP200, but digitech is more solid. THis thing is made out of PLASTIC! have you heard the rumor about plastic? Plastic breaks! I give it a 5 becaus it worked for 1.5 years and screwed me up for 6 hours

I think it sounds great. I play a Les Paul into it, then into a
100-watt solid-state amp,and a Marshall 412 cabinet. I always keep the cab sim on. Seems to have a warmer tone that way. Noise is never a problem. Hey new guys, single coil pickups will ALLWAYS
MAKE NOISE!!!!!!!!

Once the manual has been deciphered and red three or four times, editing is fairly straigthforward.

Editing of both the FCB1010 and V-Amp 2 can be accomplished much more easily via the downloadable software.

Sound Quality : 9
Use a 'Strat Syled' customised guitar with Seymour Duncan hot rails, Yamaha SG2000S, Fender Strat Delux with Lace Sensors.
Through a 300W stereo pwr amp in bridge mode through a pair of foldback speakers and a Samson wireless.

The presets are usable to a point. However, wide range of support online and abundant patches. There is a Santana patch that is very good. I only use about 5-8 patches through a 40 song gig anyway. The WAH WAH sound is average and takes a little getting used to.

As with any instrument, the 'sound' is a combination of the player's touch as well as the tone that the effect produces itself. I think the V-Amp 2 is very good and very versatile. I have a wide variety of hardware and have found this unit capably reproduces the sounds I need. I have found that the shape is ungainly and not very ergonomic from a live gig perspective. However, I have recently purchased the V-AMP Pro which fits in my rack and is a lot more convenient. It means I can practise quite easily withut having to set my full equipment. Any sounds that are tweaked can be transferred across to each other via a midi cable.

I also use the FCB1010 to control the patches. THe only complaint I have is that I can't pack it away in my rack. I used to use the ZOOM 8050 with two pedals and it is compact and with just as much versatility. I haven't found a bag/case to fit the FCB1010 as yet.

If you play metal this piece of junk is OK. If you play any other kind of music; lacks a lot. FX are good, not great, but for what it is they pass. Clean amps are the worst I have ever heard. Blues type tones are not good. The only sounds that are any where near good are any type of rectified, or heavy (buzz) distortion. I emphisize the word (BUZZ) that is what it sounds like. Not a good piece of gear.

No!! this is the worst thing since my Roland RP-7... you have to push buttons 4 to 5 seconds and stuff like this, to safe sounds.. And i think, a FX with a lil display *only 2 signs* is not practical.. also these 2nd parameters are quite bad.. you have to be a fingeracrobat to use it..

Sound Quality : 6
First, i was very impressed, because we did some recording.. but after a while, if you didnt remember the bossmetalzone:) it becomes very wired, intransparent and crappy.. also the noise is very bad.. the noisegate has to much releasetime, resp. you cant adjust the releasetime.. only the intense.. so unpractical with a highoutput guitar. the chorus sounds quite nice.. the reverb is ok, the delay is ok but the rest sucks.. I like some distortions.. but if you ever stood in front of a mesaboogie rectifier and your stomack was shaking, nothing happens if you do the same with behringer...;)well.. who cares..

Reliability : 3
i used it on a gig.. and if you have a doommetalband, or pop, slowrock band you have time to manage the switchtime from sound to sound, or you learn how early you have to press the switchbutton, so the sound changes..

sorry, im playing deathmetal, and industrial, and i have not the time to wait until the next sound is comming..

i used the extenrnal delivered pedal once, and it died on stage..
now i use it with a external midimastercontroller.

also the box is like these new cars from china.. dont touch them, or they brake in 2 pieces..;)

Overall Rating : 5
-too much noise
-not the best thing for highgain sounds
-cleansection is fine
-made very cheap
-external footswitch died in the first concert
-the powersupply is also a very cheap thing.. not built to resist..

buy it if you dont have money... else buy a korg AX 1500 G.. twice the price, but built like a tank, and the sound is genius..

It's really easy to get the sound you want out of it WITH HEADPHONES or FOR COMPUTER RECORDING. But i've been trying to use it with my Crate GFX212, through the regular input and trough tne insert input, tried without the cab simulation and never get any closer to the sound i want. If someone has an idea of what to do to my amp!!

It has a great sound quality, i have recorded a couple of songs in my mac, and it sounds so PRO, every thing, the effects, distortion (mainly amp simulations). Haven't try the wah cause i need the midi controller, I CAN'T NOT RATE its sound quality connected to my amp, CUZ my amp changes the sound, even connected in the insert without cab simulation!!! Should i try buying a keyboard amp ?? i'll give it a 10 on soundquality but just for computer recording and practicing.

This processor has alot of knobs and the same button doing multiple thing with holding other buttons down etc...so it takes awile to get used to but once you do i found you could customize your sound nicly. My biggest concern is the pedal, it only allows you to cycle through your current bank which can be annoying. But saying that i should mention the addon switch which adds more banks etc nice touch...never looked into the price though.

At first, I was very skeptical about buying any type of amp modeling processor, being a dedicated tube amp enthusiast for many years. Finally,I broke down and bought one for the purpose of simplifying my practice and home recording needs. With some quick tweaking, you can get convincing amp sounds without alot of fuss--no scrolling though menus--plug in, turn a few knobs and play. Just the way most of us guitarists prefer to work! As with any processor, the manual is a very good place to start, and will help you get the most out of the unit. Also there is V-amp patch editing software available at the behringer website, although I have not tried it yet, so I cannot comment on it's usability.

Sound Quality : 9
I Use several guitars:Fender American Strat w/EMGs, Les Paul Standard w/EMGs, Gibson Flying V w/EMGs > V-amp2 > Edirol UA-20 Audio Capture > computer. The effects are of passable quality, and sound much better in stereo than mono, however they rate low in the tweakability department as you can only change two parameters per effect (or effect combination) so if you are finicky about effects and need a lot of control, additional external processors are required. I can get most of the tones that I need out of this little box, mostly high gain amp tones like JCM 800, recto, soldano, etc. The V-Amp2 really shines in the High gain rock/metal dept. and the clean sounds and vintage combos sound convincing as well. The V-amp2 makes direct to tape/disk recording ultra simple.

Reliability : 7
I can depend on the unit day after day and don't forsee any major problems...as long as it remains on my desktop!!! This is the intended application for the V-amp2. I am very concerned about the units durability and I wonder if it would survive a three foot fall from my desk. Seriously, would you rely on a light, plastic guitar shaped gizmo as your main tone source at the big gig?? I think not. The rack mountable V-amp Pro combined with a good power amp would be a much better choice for gigging, although I personally will stick with a genuine tube amp for live playing...In this application, the little blue box would be better off staying home.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them.

Overall Rating : 8
I play mostly Rock/metal and blues. I can get all the tones I need and then some. I've been playing, gigging, recording for 20+ years and have played through lots of gear, Old Marshall super lead, MkII, Mesa dual rectifier, Lots of rack gear ADA MP1,MP2, Rocktron, Digitech etc. and have a large collection of stomp boxes, vintage and modern. If the V-amp were lost or stolen I would certainly buy another. One thing I wish the unit had is an On/Off switch!! Come on, no power switch?? What were they thinking?? Other than the power switch and durability issues, this is one cool toy that keeps me playing my guitar for hours on end...If a particular piece of gear can do that for me, it's worth the money.

All knobs. It's super easy and great if you like playing instead of digging through manuals and layers of menus.

Sound Quality : 10
I use it live going into the effects return (bypasses the preamp) on a Mesa Nomad Head into a Marshall 1960A 4x12 (control with the FCB1010). The sound is amazing. I don't use the effects, just the amp models AND the cabinets (also noise gate). I think of the cabinet models as just sort of a global EQ that changes the general voicing of each amp. I find I get a better sound by using the cab modeling even though I playing through a great cab. As I said, to me cab models just determine the voicing of each amp. For live use YOU ABSOULUTELY MUST DO ALL YOUR EQ ADJUSTMENT AT STAGE VOLUMES. You can't EQ at low volumes and have it sound good live (loud). Also don't forget about the global EQ control (in L1 setting) and the presence adjustment for each amp. They make a big difference. I totally love the sound, way better than the Mesa alone. Keep in mind, however, that part of the sound is determined by your power amp and I'm using an all tube power amp which I'm sure helps the sound. My favorite amp model is the V-amp crunch, great chunk.

Reliability : No Opinion
SO far so good

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
Some people say they can't get a good live sound. I think they either don't have a good power amp, good speaker cab, or they use too many effects, or they don't set their EQ at high volumes. For me it sounds great live. In fact, with my "live" patches, I have to be loud for them to sound good. They sound a bit dead and fuzzy at bedroom levels, but crank the tube power amp to loud levels and it's monster crunh distortion with great chunk and easy pinch harmonics. I love it. I'm considering getting the pro V-amp and building a rack so I don't have to carry both my head and v-amp 2 around. Oh yea, almost forgot, I get great cleans and dirty cleans as well.

I`m gonna make this short, with about 200 reviews you can`t go wrong anymore...If you`re looking for effects-unit, with this you won`t have any major regrets. I`ve had my Vamp2 for about two years now and here are my views:

+ for silent practise this is marvellous; just plug your jack and headphones and start to play. I think that this is the best part of vamp, even the Ladies in the house appreciate this little toy. This preamp is also convenient when connecting to mixing board.
+ all of the 32 Amp Simulations are top quality, Behringer have worked hard for those. Actually, which one you like depends on your taste only. Behringer is using these same simulations and FX`s in newest 2004 products also and I think there is no use changing them in the future either. Maybe there is some new FX`s coming up later on ?
+ 16 FX`s 8 Cabinet simulations 9 reverbs
+ U can mute amps/cabinets/reverbs/FX`s ? everything when needed
+ 15 step noisegate (could also be like 4 step only, things start to happen after 10...)
+ Behringer`s PC-program is another big deal here: you can add pre-FX, delay-mix, post-FX, wah to normal Vamp2 sounds. So without PC you`ll miss something.
+ there is a lot of presets downloadable in internet.
+ even acoustic guitar can get extra sparks when played thru vamp2

- NO on/off-switch
- Connections are quite OK, but I wonder why this unit doesn`t have USB-connection. My laptop really hasn`t any plug&play-connectors... To solve this problem U need a USB/MIDI-connector like Esi`s model (another ?50). I plug my vamp with midi-cables to Technics keyboard and keyboard with USB to laptop to use the Vamp-program, so it`s no big deal to me.
- The looks. It looks OK, but I don`t like the toy-shape- if this is a problem, there`s always vamp-pro rack-unit (?235, with on/off-switch also). By using footcontroller, in the other hand, you can hide Vamp2 on stage.
- The gain knobb is something I dislike, it just gets muddy quite easily
- my Vamp2 has lost all of it`s presets twice already , w/o a reason, so I think that you should have all the presets saved in your PC, just in case! So should you rely to Vamp2 while playing live? I wouldn`t. With a second backup Vamp2 I would.

Summary:

For ? 150 this is the one and only and the best option for anyone in need of ?regular?effects. There simply isn`t good enough option in this price range. Still, you should consider what kind of set you need:
- normal Vamp2 or Vamp-pro
- maybe with combo included, Behringer LX1-112 V-Ampire (?350) or
- NEW Vamp coming up June-July 2004: V-AMPIRE LX1200H; guitar modelling amplifier head (~ ?250)
-
I also have Behringer FCB-1010 Midi foot controller (?150) to work with. Its made like a tank and it makes Vamp2 use more successful on stage ? who has the time to turn knobbs while playing? It might feel expensive compared to Vamp2 itself, but actually there isn`t other good controllers costing under ?200. These two together are great value for ?300 I have to say!

Also the type of guitar you use have a certain effect to the sound (of course). I use my sc/sc/2xsc-guitar rather than my hb/hb-guitar. I get my best sounds with Yamaha Pac 604W double single-coin pu.

its as simple as an amp the manual is well written sucks there is no on off button. the presets are over processed but warning now if you try this in the store through headphones youll buy it right then. doent take long at all to have your own sound and not someone elses

Sound Quality : 9
first off this is an amp simulator not to be used with an amp guys that are using it with an amp are crazy its plastic and there is plenty of good amps out there to not use this strictly for direct recording. i use ibanez guitars and have used a gibson les paul with this need to roll off the vol on that guitar though. some of the amps are extremely noisy and some arent but the pod xt and the j station are the same way this has a little more useable amp sounds. the jcm 800 brit hi gain is modeled after the 2204 mk2 head and it is the closest thing youll get to the real thing experiment with cabs cab 4 the 112 mid cab works great for everything. the soldano or modern high gain is very good also sounds more like a 5150 than a soldano but that sound is just awesome. the rectifier models are also good the rectifier head will get you that godsmack sound or disturbed so if modern rock is your thing this is the item to buy. the rest of the amps are ok the clean amps are decent. the 50 wat plexi just sucks and the plexi is only good on cleaner settings, the effects are good not great the ambience feature is in revereb at settings 8 and 9 has to be used a little to emulate the air being pushed into the mike wish there was an adjustable mike like the pod xt but overall for the money you cant go wrong ive made 2 records with this it is that good can even use a bass through it its almost a 10 but no microphone and air makes it a nine but maybe it will be there in the v amp 3 maybe two microphones one for room and one for amp

Reliability : 6
i wouldnt gig with it its plastic ive had some problems with the memory in it where i had to reset the thing and that sucks but hopefully they will improve this and add a friggin on off switch. if your looking for in your face well produced guitar sounds this blows em all away you may even have to cut the lows and mids that is how powerful this thing is some advice use only for recording direct and thats it it is great for that good enough to be on a professional cd

Customer Support : No Opinion
i have never really dealt with them only just to find out about new stuff coming out this is a great music company so there shouldnt be a problem

Overall Rating : 10
i play a little of everything and the vamp can do it all it doesnt model all the amps great and not all the cabs are good but none of the competitors do. ive been playing for 21 years and im not even 30 yet id put the vamp against almost anything for direct recording it blows the pod and j station away it is in the middle of those two which makes it the one to buy i would definately freak if this was stolen and id have to buy another one right away. i play heavy funk rock which is my main style and if you go to garageband.com and type in hands of time by mousepouch you will hear what the vamp can do if the vamp in the future comes out with virtual microphones and placement 2 would be real nice than line 6 will be finished also have to make it more durable but overall for direct recording this kicks ass and rivals up most miked up rigs with the exception of the wellknowns but if you live in an apartment or record at odd hours this is a godsend and youm must buy this its cheap and more than gives you what you need how come you dont have it already?

I use a Carvin Bolt. For recording: into the V-AMP, into the board, into the recorder. Very good simulations, much less digital clutter than either PODs. It's so easy to get a good sounding recording. The effects are pretty good but the real strengths are the simulations. Good touch response especially the clean settings. For live I go right into the house, and if I need to monitor I use a little Roland keyboard amp. No muss, no fuss, no bother. It's definitely not a tube amp, but still has a surprisingly good sound. The output is much more substancial than the POD. Put a little stomp box in front of the V-AMP and you are good to go. Atomic amps are coming out with a series of amplifiers dedicated to modelers. I can't wait, they are due out in April.

Never had a problem so I can't say. It's so inexpensive you could buy two, and it's still less than a POD 2.

Unless you really are a tone fiend, this is a remarkably good sounding easy to use device. While it would not fool a discerning listener, one can get very realistic amp tones from this little box. I felt that the sounds were superior to all of the simulators that I've listened to, at a cost that is unbelievably low.
Most of the music I play is contemporary/classic pop-rock. The Dead, Band, Southern rock, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Motown, etc. How can you go wrong, and if you decide not to use it as an amp simulator, you can defeat the amp tones and just use it as an effects processor. Cool!

I use this preamp for recording and my live rig. I've been looking to switch from my old rig (10 years now..), but I was never happy with the tone I was getting. This thing blew me away.
I can get the Vai mid wha sound with this and great clean sounds. Anyone that gives this unit a bad review has no clue of what a real amp with a microphone in front of it sounds like.
I play originals and covers. This thing can model any amp on the market today, past or present. The clean sounds are crystal clear and the tube sounds have the "squawk" you get from a cranked Marshall.

I went to the store to buy a POD Pro (rackmount) and I played this and the POD side by side. This sounds more like an amp and it doesnt have the latency issues like the POD. But if you have to have a USB connector then pay the extra $500 (sarcasm).

The bands that record in my studio will almost always use this instead of the amp they walked in with. They can get it to sound like their amp with no noise or hiss. Plus with its recording options you can record a dry signal while monitoring the wet signal then go back and add any of the tones you want to match the mix.

****** You can download the POD2Vamp app that will convert all the POD patches to Vamp! ******

I play everything from hardcore to pop to blues. I've tried just about every preamp on the market and nothing beats the Vamp dollar for dollar.

It beats the Line6 stuff IMO. They sound similar, a little EQ tweaking and you can get the same results from each of the units. But for $500 I think I'll stay with the Vamp.

For recording to computer, its the best $200 I've spent so far.

Fairly simple to use, I mostly worked it out in the shop, programming's simple. MIDI control is a little more complicated, I found the implementation table in the manual a little confusing. Otherwise can't fault it. A power switch would be nice.

Sound Quality : 8
I bought this mainly as a recording preamp, but also hoped to use it for some live effects without having to hurl tonnes of cash at building a rack. The main problem with using it live is that there's a short cut-out when you change patches. Still, it's not what it's designed for, so I can't really complain.

There's an excellent selection of amp models, ranging from cool 50's blues combos to modern stacks. I find that some can be a little unresponsive as far as gain goes, you don't really get the claimed valvey response to pick attack, but it can only be expected to emulate, these aren't exact replicas! The speaker models are a little bit less convincing, and don't always behave as you'd expect, for example I find I get a better blues sound with 4X12 models than the Twin model. Otherwise, I'd just say that you have to be careful with the gain control; I play a lot of different styles, but even when I'm doing metal the gain rarely goes above 5 unless I'm aiming for the ridiculous.

The effects section is very impessive sonically, you can get some great classic tones, and with minimal noise. It's easy to dial up either classy understated modulations or total excess. The ambient effects are particularly good. The only problem here is that you only have two parameters to control (and you have a selection of different reverbs and delays), which can make dialing exact sounds up tricky, but i'm a perfectionist when it comes to effects, but for the money it more than does the trick.

Reliability : 6
I've had no problems, but I wouldn't want to drop it, and apparently the power input can be problematic. I don't use it live.

Customer Support : 5
I emailed Behringer about the FCB1010 MIDI controller I bought with this unit (DON'T buy an FCB without any previous MIDI experience or a lot of patience), since I'd got an old chip, and they didn't get back to me. I had to find an electronics expert and get it done that way, which apparently voids my warranty). Not very impressed. However, it's the only contact I've had with them, so I'd be unfair to slam them.

Overall Rating : 8
A good all-round unit, it's not quite a Pod Pro but it's definitely on a par with Pod 2 etc.

Pretty intuitive. Only tapbutton can be a biatch.

Sound Quality : 9
I mainly play rock (pixies, U2, nada surf, neil youn & crazy horse). I 'm playing a godin radiator. It's a pretty mild guitar. So I can't blame the V-amp for lacking Metall-sound (not my style anyway). It rocks. Just don't expect real-amp-presence, it would not be fair to do so. I am a Vox fan. I was a bit disapointed in the AC30 sound. BUT with a little tweaking it's available. Take the AC15(Britt Class A 15W) and ad the AC30 cabinet (no. 11). Ad a compressor if u like. It pretty much nails it (works for me). You will need good headphones or audio-stuff to extract the full potential of this mother.

Reliability : 6
Have had problem's with Tap-button. Had it sent to behringer. No problems since.
Sometimes sounds weird and dull after switching it on. Resetting is the only cure. So I've learned not to get too much attached to my presets.
I don't gig. Don't want to dodge tomatoes.

Customer Support : 7
Had it sent to behringer through the dealer. Had it back in a few weeks. Nothing special.

Overall Rating : 9
Works really nice. I only use a few of the modelled amps. Not very much effects. Some compression and occasional wah.
Don't expect the versatillity of the individual amps. Most have multiple channels in real life.
I like pure guitarsound and even though it's a Fisher Price Styled Toy, it delivers big time!

I think it is very easy to use after having checked all the features out. The interface is very easy to understand, so I didn't have to use the Manual very often. I only used it for special features i.e. the Studio or Live settings.

Sound Quality : 8
I use an Epiphone Les Paul Standard and a Yamaha Pacifica 812d. I connected the line out of the Vamp2 with the effect return of my Marshall JCM800 Combo having turned off the cabinet simulation.(I think the Marshall preamp sucks and the Poweramp rocks.)The Vamp2 does much better than the Marshall Preamp. So I have a good Live Setup. The noise gate is very reliable, but I think while using monstrous gain or a compressor the noise could have been reduced in another way.
I found some amp-sims that I Like, but there are too many, that do not have that sound, they pretend to have.
THe effects section is nice.Using them carefully can produce a good bonus to your sound.
The only thing that didn't convince me is the cabinet simulation. You can get much better sounds by using a real cabinet and turning the sim off. Using an earphone, the cabinet sim sucks. Only with clean sounds it works well.
I give an 8 because of it's amazing sound when using a poweramp and a real cabinet.

Not at all complicated though it sometimes requires a bit of two-handed dexterity to get at certain features. Not an impossible thing, just a little too much cost-cutting on the part of Behringer; an extra knob or too, even small ones, would be better than holding down a button with one hand whilst twiddling another knob. Still, the accessibility of good sounds and effects is very easy. I have a Line6 AX2 which is comparatively much more difficult owing to its infinite tweakability. Behringer have got it right here: I want to enjoy the brew, not spend hours concocting it.
The manual is good and once you've gotten through it, you never need refer to it again, unlike the AX2 which I occassionally must refer to to remember what to do next.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using an Ibanez R?-240??...I don't remember anymore and it doesn't matter much since I've replaced the neck and bridge pickups with Dimarzio's 'Humbucker-from-Hell' and 'Dual Sound' pickups respectively. Both have mini-switches for accessing series and parallel combinations that provide a complete range of tones. Anyway, using this guitar at least, I pronounce the V-AMP2 the finest all-digital modeler out there. Maybe the tube-equipped Vox Tonelab is marginally better, but not by much. This thing actually breathes like a tube amp. Tonal nuances imparted by finger pressure and attack all come through and invite endless noodling and playing just to enjoy the tone!! The clean tones blow away every other modeler I've heard and have actually brought me back to all-clean playing again. Add a little dirt and I'm in Texas-Blues heaven, cranking out Stevie ray licks. Go crazy and you've got super-drenched distortion and sustain just dripping off the guitar's neck. The cabinet models are fantastic and clearly evoke the sounds from different speakers, from loose and fizzy to tight. I don't know enough about how these digital guys are doing this but they've moved the bar up another notch with this thing; Line6, and everyone else, beware! I vastly prefer to headphone-practice through this thing rather than running headphones out the back of my AX2. In fact, running the signal into a stereo mixer and full-range speakers yields better sound quality than my AX2. Amazing! My other 'toy' is a Zoom digital PS-02 pocket recorder with so-called built-in amp emulation. I bought this thing to run a better signal into the unit since its own sounds were so crappy. The V-AMP2 totally solved that problem. I've looked at every other modeler out there and this is the one that covers all the territory, from clean to full nasty distortion, faithfully. When you factor in the ridiculously low price, it's the hands-down winner. I see other reviewers in here who have totally blasted the sound quality of this thing which makes me suspect a defective unit or a defective user and/or defective ears.

Reliability : No Opinion
The thing sits unmolested in my basement where I practice with it so I can't really comment. Were I to play out with it, I'd probably build it into some protective carrying case since it doesn't look indestructible to me and I'd be anal about damaging it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No need for them yet; hence no opinion.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 36 years now and like the other 'oldsters' in here, have bought and played just about every popular guitar/amp combination out there (and some not so popular ones too!). I cover lots of styles as the mood strikes, from jazz to country, to rock, to blues and metal. Nothing else, not even my much loved AX2, let's me cover so much territory so happily. I feel inspired to play in all of these genres now. Before, I'd dial in a patch and then quickly dial out because the experience seemed so artificial. Now I'm content and can sit for hours without changing a setting because the sounds are just that good. Then I switch into saomething else and that same feeling swallows me up all over again. I haven't ebjoyed playing this much since those early wide-eyed years when everything sounded amazing just because it was new and I didn't know any better. That's partially what got me bored over the years; once I knew better it became harder to be satisfied with any old single rig. The LIne6 products came along and re-awakened dormant interests but eventually I narrowed my listening and playing field because only certain modeled tones sounded authentic and were able to capture my interest for any length of time. I always felt like something was missing...... Well evidently, Behringer have found that 'missing' ingredient and built it into this box and I'm back in guitar heaven again.
I love the simplicity of its operation and am only mildly annoyed at the two-hand teawing. If it were lost or stolen, I'd definitely buy another one. Everything else suffers in comparison (even the Line6 POD)to varying degrees. I do wish it had some built-in stomp boxes and/or EQ, though they would add some complexity that the unit benefits by not having. I admit that I will be checking out the Vox ToneLab in the future because I am ever in search of ultimate tone and reviewers in here indicate that IT might be THE ONE. But for now, and for THIS PRICE, the V-Amp2 has no equal.

It sounds great!!! I use it at my home studio and I also have the V-Amp Pro for live work. The amp simulators sound good, I don?t know how close to the real thing they are but they sound good. It's hard to say, " it sounds like a Marshall 800" for example, because I've owned 4 Marshall 800s and they all sounded different. So I don't worry too much on how "authentic" they are, they sound good.
You can hear some samples of the v-amp at my website: www.bill-lima.com

Well I wasn't going to post a review here but the last review I read was so harsh, I thought I should say a few things also.
This is great unit for recording, IMHO better than the POD 2.0 and depending on your set up this would be better than miking an amp (especially if you don?t have proper acoustic treatment in your room etc). Ideally the best thing would be to have lots of amps in a soundproof, acoustically treated room great mikes and stuff, but how many people can afford that? This is much more practical.
Another thing: lots of people say this is a copy (rip-off) of the POD but they don't even emulate the same amps!! For example this one doesn?t have the Layer amp simulator you find on the POD, the POD doesn?t have the ENGL etc .. I think this thing sounds better than the POD overall. I'm very happy with the results.
If you want, listen to my samples on the site and feel free to ask me questions about it.

I found it easy to learn to use - the manual is clear and well written.

Sound Quality : 2
I play sort of bluesy - jazzy - laid back rock (??? what the f....!)
sometimes I like to put a little dirt into the sound and I do make judicious use of FX when I'm recording (delay, reverb, tremelo). I bought this piece of kit for recording - can't see why I would ever want to use it live given that I've got a nice amp and my own carefully selected set of peddles. What I really wanted was to get a decent guitar sound into my little hard-disc recorder.
For me the acid test of a piece of kit like this is the clean sound - and I could not find a decent clean sound in this box! Hi end is anaemic, mids are plinky, bass is rubbery. Think 80's casio keyboard "Guitar".
This cheap and nasty basic sound seems to pervade all the sounds available in the box. Many of the presets are frankly ludicrous - so if ludicrous is your thing, well . . . .
Playing through this thing makes it feel like you aren't playing a guitar at all - all the vibrancy, resonance and string dynamics just get lost and you're left with a smoothed out, synthetic guitar simulation effect that just eats the guts out of your music.
I can't compare it to other similar products - this is my first sorti into digital guitar modelling stuff - and probably my last.

Reliability : No Opinion
It seemed to be a little on the flimsy side and one of the output sockets came loose - I fixed that myself.
Can't comment upon use in a live gig 'cause I just did not buy it for that purpose.

I have a few other pieces of Behringer kit (DI box, MX802A mixer, Composer Pro compressor) with which I am very pleased, and I really wanted to like the V-Amp - I'd spent #99 on it! and I really thought from the reviews I had read that it would do the business for my guitar recording.
Sound quality is obviously a very subjective thing - however, I have to say that I'm surprised that so many reviewers here seem to think that this thing sounds good - I think it sounds really bad - cheap, synthetic, nasty, non-musical sound. The processing in this thing seriously downgrades and dilutes the natural rich harmonic and dynamic sound which comes out of a decent guitar. I think I read somewhere that the sample rate of the A to D converters in this box is lower than average - if this is correct maybe that explains why the basic sound is so poor - who knows?
It just didn't come anywhere near cutting it for me and I sold it (to a young metaller who thinks its wuuunderfull! so there you go . . . .)

I have used V-AMP 2 over two years with Gibson Les Paul Studio, Tokai LC-80, few Jacksons etc. for practising and recording purposes. It's benefits compared to POD's are Marshall and clean amp modellings. In fact only territories where Line6 beat V-Amp are the high gain modellings. The truth is if you want perfect lead sounds you need a tube amp. You can't find it from V-Amp, POD or any other amp modelling units.

Reliability : 6
This is the weakest part of V-Amp. I wouldn't gig with it ever. Midi setups keep resetting and whole box is made of plastic which means you have to handle it like woman or it'll brake in pieces in no time. I've already broke one of the pot knobs. There's no main on-off switch in this thing and you have to pull cord off if you want shut it and plug it in again when you want it on.

Mine crapped out on me....be careful to never unplug or plug it in AT THE UNIT. Always at the wall. That will delete all your presets and sometimes give it a horid sound that requires it to be reset to fix. It's plastic...

Ok, this is why I really wanted to write this review. They have the BEST customer support. I went about trying to get an RA for this and get a replacement unit, but they said this problem was common so they sent me a new chip to upgrade it from 2.0 to 2.1 -- never had a problem with it since. I have also had trouble with the PMX2000 we got for our church, and they were great about getting an RA for that and we're getting it replaced. It's very easy to setup and use, for the average guitarist, even without using the manual. However, as with all other digital effects, reviewing the manual will only assist you to enhance your overall pleasure and experience. The manual is easy to understand and is set out simply enough for most people to navigate there way through.

In a word - AWESOME! I am currently using an Ibanez JEM and a customised Ibanez RG550 - V-amp2 and fcb1010 (footswitch) - ADA MP1 -Alesis Qaudraverb GT - custom (100watt per side) power amp - 2 marshall duo cabs.

The amp simulations are just brilliant. I've used an Vox AC30, Mesa Boogie dual rectifier and various marshall amps and I can tell you that these amp simulations are right on the money!! The manual has a list of the simulated amps so that you are able to distinguish between them, which is really good because the best part of it all is playing through all the amp sims and knowing that you have all these amps at your finger tips without the enormous cost. And they really do sound like the original amps.
What I like about this unit is that you are still able to really individualise a personal sound. Even with the presets, you're still able to clearly hear the pick attacks and your finger vibrato. The processing and sustain is truly amazingly pristine and precise.

Coudn't be easier. Unless you want more cabinet/reverb options, there are nothing else than knobs to twist. It's just like a real amplifier.

I'll give it a eight because it doesn't sound great with any kind of setup. I'm using a custom made guitar, A/B swtich and the V-Amp. The other output of the A/B goes to my pedals and amp. Sometimes I don't even use my fx/pedal setup.

The V-Amp sounds great through the P/A with proper equalization, but I just can't get a great high-gain sound through my amp, but I can get good cleans and semi-distorted. No, it will not sound good with a cheap amp.

This unit is not noisy at reasonable gain levels. It behaves just like an amp, and depends a lot on your guitar too.

The effects are really basic - no weird effects - but they're not limited. Unlike other multi-fx units, you can take them to their extremes.

Well... the sound... here we go: Amazing, just for start. This little thing can do everything you want, from jazz to heavy metal, it does it all, and really good! My top five emulations are: Calif. One advice: if you have an amp, plug it into the effects loop(if the amp have one), pluging into the input may kill the sound depending what your amp you're using. In it's case, let the EQ flat. And another advice: it sounds warmer than POD!!!

Okay, you have to figure out how to use all these knobs (parts of them have a second function) and it takes a SHORT while to get a feeling how to produce good sounds...but imagine you would habe all these available amps on stage or at home..it would be much harder to control all of them...

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using the V-Amp 2 with an ESP M-107 7-String guitar, into a H&K Warp 7 Amp (Aux-In) into a bigger then normal 4x12 Cabinet with Junior Celestion Speakers. It didn't take long to find this special "own sound" for me personally. Most amps are useful and sounding great. The drive-function (you can choose between two drive-modes) is great for me, I'm playing hard and deep metal (like Coal Chamber, Mudvayne, etc...)and I really get those tones and tunes with it. The effects don't beat you off the edge, but they are useful as well, especially the tap-button is great to control your delay-effects. Only the rotary-effect should be used with a keyboard/organ, with guitar it's not really necessary. The equalizer is very effictive with most amp-models.
So:
-Many great sounds well done
-Good effects
-Great control of your tone
-Lots of possibilities to find your own sound

It rocks

I had no problems using it, but you should not play football or soccer with it I think ;) ...

It's pretty easy to figure out, but it takes a long time to get the sound your looking for sometimes.

Sound Quality : 9
I have used this with a Princeton Chorus and a Telecaster, and have even been able to get some full body tones from the Telecaster. I have used this slightly with a Behringing UltraTwin 2x12 and a Jay Turser Electric, and have found some real nice tones. It is limited in its uses and the effects really aren't as great as they are made out to be. The Echo, Tremolo, Ping Pong, Delay, and Compressor are up to par, but the modulation effects like Flange and Phase really don't cut it. This has some really nice clean sounds, but is hard to get a crisp distortion, but has a lot of balls for "hardcore" stuff. If you mess around with it long enough, chances are you will get the sound your looking for. One problem I noticed as the unit got older, I would get a lot mid-range sound, almost as if it was hooked up to a crybaby that was pushed up half way. Almost sounded like a duck.

Reliability : 5
This is where the POD really advantages. I used this unit pretty heavily for about 2 years. I had to replace the power supply jack, and the 1/4 inch jacks are starting to get loose. I also lost all my presets one day, and have had problems with getting good sounds ever since. I still use it with my old princeton and it can still make do. It wouldn't last me much longer though.

Customer Support : 9
I called them when the unit started causing me problems. The service seemed great, but I didn't have the receipt from the store I bought it from. I am sure they would have given me a new one if I would have had it, or if I would have pressured enough, but I was just ready to move on and get some newer equipment.

I play rock, with some blues, jazz, and funk influences. I am now using a Jay Turser Strat copy with a humbucker and a Behringer UltraTwin 2x12. The V-Amp worked very well for its time. I am sure the rack mount version is really solid, I would highly recommend that to someone who wants a variety of pro sounds without buying all the pedals and amps, ect. I have been playing pretty much nonstop for about three years now, and about half of that time I have depended on the V-Amp. My recommendation would save up the extra money and get the rack mount version.

It is pretty simple to use just twidle the knobs around or play with the presets, i play thru hifi speakers and it the amp models work really well strate out, after a few weeks you'll know the whole layout and its completly fine. Setting up amp/speaker combinations could be slightly easier but thats it.

The sound quality is brilliant at low settings, its just as you start to push the volume up that you can tell this is a MFX rarther than a stompbox, for practicing/basic recording jobs its great :-)

My plugs contacts have snapped off or been bent loads of times, meaning the unit doesnt power up right, the power lead should just be permently attached, this also happened to my friend who has one and the vamp is now unuasble, the actual box itself itd good.

Customer Support : 6
I tried to order a new plug, they were helpful in locating a plug down to a local supllier, but it was going to cost me almoust as much as a new unit, forcing me to sort of do a DIY jobby on it....

I play mainly rock and strummy type songs aswell as sum lead stuff, no 5minute harmonic tapping solos... and it works great, the only little thing is the deley with the footswitch meaning you have to click the footswitch just b4 you need to change but thats nothing major for practice.....

V-Amp 2 is good when talking about the ease of use. It gives you a general control over the sound by pressing a few buttons and playing with a few knobs. However, sometimes it becomes a nightmare to find the sound you want within the menus. Manual is good and it helps you to cover the abilities of the product. The additional carrying bag and footswitch is also useful to select pre-arranged tones. Not bad but needs to overcome that "too much buttons" problem. You may feel as if you are controling the USS ENTERPRISE at some point...

And it also needs a wah controller rather than giving an auto wah.

Sound Quality : 5
I ve used an Ibanez RG470 and a Jackson Performer PS4 with V-Amp 2 near to the studio equipment i use (Tascam Mixer, Behringer compressors, etc.) and the final outcome was not as good as a real amp. The sound is too noisy and cannot give you the feeling, the ambience. You can get a good tone to play at home or to record a demo tape but when it comes to a real recording or a live gig, stay away from this one. You will get some dry tones with too much noise. The noise gate stops that stupid fuzzy sounds but then you loose the tone inevitably. The noise gate is not much useful due its lack of control within small ranges. There are 15 levels, and it makes a real difference of sound when changing 1 level, and therefore, it kills the ability to have a control over the tones. My favorite artists are Blind Guardian, Symphony X, Shadow Gallery and I was far away from getting good tones like they do. Also the effect controls are not that good. You are forced to use a small variety of effects with limited control. A good EQ would be good rather than having a bass treble mid set. However, as i ve said, it is good to practice at home. And it has a good price.

Reliability : 4
No. As sound, I don't think it is very reliable to have good tones on a gig, if you don't have hours to do a sound check with a good sound tech. And as the machine itself, the plastic cover and the knobs should be used very gently. Even with great care, my treble and mid knobs broke 2 times, while trying to get a good tone. Also, after 7 months, the machine went crazy and started to erase tones and give a strange "beeep" sound whenever I used an overdrive tone.

Customer Support : 10
I haven't contacted the company in any way. I've dealt with the local dealer and they did repair the device as the official dealer. The service was good and I got back my V-amp2 within a few days.

Overall Rating : 5
I play progresive metal and V-Amp 2 cannot support the variety of tones I need when composing/recording a song. However, when practicing at home or having a rehersal with the band, it may be useful because of its small size, easy to carry bag and small footswitch. Next month I'll buy some Mesa Boogie rack stuff and I guess V-Amp 2 will be a quick-to-set and use equipment for me, nothing more. Especially, if you are using tones with wah wah (like Blind Guardian), V-Amp 2 is nothing more than a piece of junk because it doesn't give you a control over the effects. Final words; good for amateur players and in-home practices, far from being helpful for professional recording, live performances, taking good sounds.

If You are used to this kind of gear most of the parameters are quite easy to adjust. But there are menues You need to press different buttons to reach and parameters You need to press buttons and turn potis at the same time. The manual explains these procedures quite well but I did borrough my V-amp to a novice and he did not understand at all how to use it

Sound Quality : 6
My guitar is an Ibanez Sa 160QM. I used the V-Amp in front of a guitar amp, a mixer and with headphones. The best result I got with the headphones, in front of the amp I did not like it at all. There are millions of possibilities in there with 32 Amps all kind of effects, box simulations... At the beginnig I was quite impressed by this but when I tried to program some nice settings I never was really satisfied. The high gain amp simulations make quite a lot of noise. But this was not the main problem, but there was always something missing, especially in the high frequencies.

I bought a Matchless Chieftain some time after I got this unit and the simulation does not even com close to it. There is quite some difference in the price, but I think still a bigger diffence in the quality of the sound. I think it is not possible to compare these units. I liked the V-Amp for just trying some different sounds and for carrying it around on trips but when I got my Matchless I never touched it again. I'll give it a 6 because I think it is quite good for headphone use on trips and for its price but compared to a real amp it should actually be rated below this

Reliability : 8
I did only own it for a year. In this time period I did not have any problems with it. It does only have a plastic enclosure, but You can put it on your box and it has a heavy duty footswitch so it should not be damaged. I would not expect it to make any problems

for me the V-AMP sounds like if you put a wet carpet over an amp. the simulations are quite similar to the originals. but theres no top end. the sound does not open wide as i would expect from a box like this. there is a lot of hum and noise supressed by the build-in gate. the problem is the gate doen't work proper all the time during the envelope of an note. sometimes you can recognize the noise before the gate closes. if you play any chords you cant hear each string any more. MUDD!!!!

Sounds Fantastic.
I play a Fender Strat with a Seymour Duncan 59 on the bridge and 2 standard Strat single coils.
I use nothing else, just direct into Sonar 3.0 via Aardvark Q10.
I didn't hear any appreciable noise, there was some noise on certain presets, but they just sound like authentic amp/cab noise, so no problem. The verb is passable, and the effects are adaquate, obviously not TC or the like, but for my purposes the effects don't matter as all effects, i.e. verb delay etc.. are applied after the fact.
The gain is healthy and flexible, there are very nice spaces between eq levels, the over all tone is as good as one could ask for, unless you're one of those "Picky because it's cool to be" types.

There's plenty of Distortion even with my not so metal 59 pickup, so if you are using a Super Distortion or 85 you should have no trouble getting the Rectified, Metalfied sound.
clean sounds are what you make them, quiet and ready to work.

Features : 10
I just got the V-Amp 2 for a commercial project I was called in for on very short notice. Had used a POD last time but had to drive 20 miles out of my way to borrow it. I play almost every type of guitar work there is (no I'm not saying I'm a great player), doing alot of commercial jingles and the like so the V-Amp 2 does a great job of supplying ample tones via presets. This is one of the most important features that most guitar FX or Preamp manufacturers totally miss on. They've usually got a bunch of presets for wacked out, weird sounds to show off the FX capabilities. Behringer went the other direction, this thig is ready to plug in, start recording and get to work. With the limited time I had to work with on this particular project , 30 minutes or so, I didn't have time to have to learn a new piece of gear, so having great quality, again, USABLE (Hey Roland and Digitech, try this sometime) presets is fantastic.
I'd like to see an acoustic sim, but can certainly live without one. A S/PDIF out would the final touch on this. Oh yeah, and a power switch.

Reliability : No Opinion
the only other behringer I've got is a Composer Pro, have never had a problem with it.
The V-Amp is made of fairly durable feeling plastic but has a surprisingly heavy, metal footswitch and thick, good quality cables on both the power supply and footswitch

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for about 20 years on and off, have been playing pretty steady for about the last 6 or 7 years. I've owned Randall Rg 80, Peavey Classic 30, several digitech pedals (ick, it's like I buy one every few years to see if they've gotten better.)
Boss Blues Driver, MXR Distortion+, Morley WAH/DIS/Volume.. Roland GR30 and several guitars from Kramer to Gibson.
I think if I was to lose this I would by the V-Amp Pro for the rackmount and output connectors (AES/EBU, XLR etc..)
I would have bought the pro this time if I could have found one locally.
Love the Amps, and Cabs, I'm not all that sure about the models sounding like the real thing, but that I don't care about, when I'm looking for a great blues tone, I don't need the amp to say Fender Twin accross it, if it sounds good, it sounds good period. I think people get a bit carried away compairing models vs. the real thing.
Again I'd like to see S/PDIF out, and a power switch.
The effects are fine for live club gigs iffin you like, but for serious recording gigs, I'd use the amps and cabs without hesitation, but use your expensive effects.
And it sounds better than the POD, not just for the price, period. Sorry Line 6 but you been beaten by a company offer better performance for less money.

Kick ass. A bit of hum on some settings but AMPS HAVE HUM (especially with my shitty cords and badly grounded pickups) so how the hell is that an appropiate criticism. THe only amp model I truly dislike is the Dual Rectumfire setting. I don't know if I'd hate the real amp, but the setting for this lacks to say the least (never heard the real one). But the other Mesa models are good-great (so this is no criticism of Mesas at least the types Petrucci or Hetfield have used and of course the nu metallers have used the Rectum ones so who knows). My favorite settings though, are the Modern High Gain setting, and the Classic Clean setting (Soldano/5150 and Roland Jc120 respectively). These two are the most useful to me, and also the most articulate for the style of music I play (prog and power/death/black metal type stuff). Fx could be better, but thats only the icing on the cake with this thing (its a bonus not a main feature). The auto wah is useless and I prefer a real wah anyway (love my crybaby) . The FX are even tweakable to some extent which is cool, and I'm likely going to try this as a stand alone fx unit on my real 5150 before I get something better. The Fender and Marshall amps are all pretty good-wonderful, of course not the real thing (not as organic and tweakable) but what do you expect from a modeler. I am using this with various Jackson guitars, and am using it to record various projects so its going to good use. Pristine, a bit digital, but wonderful and alive. One thing this is good for, is for fledging guitarists to find the tones/amps they wish to buy. I was considering a 5150 before (would prefer a Soldano but I'm limited with money) and experimenting with this thing cemented in me that I should buy one, since its somewhat similar to the "Modern High Gain" setting. So I bought one. Now I want to buy an actual Jc120 as well. As for recording, this thing is AMAZING. Some of the sounds on it are VERY PROFESSIONAL compared to some Zoom or Digitech bullshit (not that all those companies stuff are bad) for the same price. It kicks ass, BUY IT NOW!

Reliability : 6
Its plastic. What can I say. I wouldn't gig with this version. I'll probably buy the PRO version and get a power amp for it down the line though. Its built (somewhat) cheaply as far as parts go. But if you're careful with it (like one should be with ALL musical equipment (a hard learned lesson for myself over the years) ) it should last! It even comes with a padded case for all you careless people out there! I have heard about people losing their presets occasionally, but most of the times I've followed up on that they've said that it was some software conflict (I.e third party software they were using with it on their computer) so I can't say how reliable the actual software is. Probably just as good as anything!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Have no idea. THey seem OK. I forgot to hand in my warranty card, so that sucks but I've been busy so I don't know how the support is, etc.

Overall Rating : 10
As far as bang for the buck- this is a NUCLEAR EXPLOSION. It comes with a foot switch (though a kind of sucky one) unlike the Pod, and I've heard a lot of the models are a bit better (than at least some of the earlier pods. I got it for cheap and its so DAMN VERSATILE I'm telling EVERYONE I know who plays guitar to get one immediately. A recording tool, a backup amp, an effects box, a vocal booth (just read what they say about the tube preamp and what it can be used for) a midi controller (somewhat limited as that and I haven't tried it much but we'll see)- all in ONE UNIT! No it ain't a POD. I expect the Pod to be somewhat better, more options. But consider that this thing already comes with a footswitch, and you're saving probably 400 DOLLARS on the cash that would go to a Pod and all that shit. Plus there are people coming up with ROMs of a lot of the POD sounds you can download for this thing. This thing may be cheap, but it is the dictionary definition of BANG FOR THE BUCK, hell its a GANGBANG FOR THE BUCK!

Real easy to get great sounds, this baby is jam packed with great tone and good factory patches you're bound to find your thing pretty quick. From crystal clear to full blown DualRecto and everything in between. If you got the chops this thing's got the sound!

I did need to read the manual - carefully.

The manual is short but it does the job. I can now save patches and control the "cabinet" or speaker sims.

As with all preamps the speaker sims or "cabinet" must be ON if going into a desk or headphones and OFF if going into a guitar amp.

Otherwise if you get this wrong any preamp will sound super buzzy in headphones or a desk or very muffled if going into a guitar amp.

There are hundreds of patches so I needed to use the "Patch List" as a guide to find the sorts of sounds I was looking for.

Overall the unit is easy to use and convenient to program!

I will have to photocopy some tables from the manual, things like the patch list and the cabinet list - I'll never remember cabinet "12" is a 4x12 with V30s ... but that's cool I little "cheat sheet" is easy to make.

The V-Amp2's display only has numbers, no words or letters, a full blown LCD with words and numbers would make it all more useable but that would probably blow the price out the window.

Because its easy to get the sounds I wanted and easy to program (after reading the manual) I'll give it a 9 for ease and convenience of use.

Sound Quality : 9
Don't let the low price make you think this thing will sound cheap (like I did for years ... I was just plain wrong). It sounds GREAT.

I'm using an Ibanez John Petrucci 90th anniversary model like this:-

AT HOME: Petrucci guitar => V-Amp2 => Mesa 2:90 power amp => Recto Quad (4x12 with V30s). That rig sounds good.

AT GIGS (always at the same hall)
Guitar => V-Amp2 => Mackie desk => Mackie power amp => Emminence based PA speakers. It also sounds great!

I also have a DualRecto Solo Head, Boogie IIC+, Triaxis and Marshall JMP1 but even in that company the V-Amp2 can stand its ground EASILY. To my ears yes the V-Amp is that good! (Hmmm maybe I'm half deaf?)

So now I don't lug any guitar amps at all, effectively the V-Amp has replacing my Triaxis based rack! (And all the other amps too)

The effects are pretty decent too.

Even the phasor or flanger sound useable (which is a first for me, I've never heard those effects sound good in any digital unit, chorus yes but not them).

I think a good phasor or flanger pedal sounds better but not my much I'll be leaving all my pedals at home now.

Yes, you may have to tweak things a bit especialy to get the right "cabinet" or speaker sim sultation but after that the reward is you get a great sounding, easy to lug, super versatile rig.

If I lost all my gear its the first (and probabl only) thing I'd replace.

Reliability : No Opinion
Hard plastic but probably shouldn't be dropped on concrete! I reckon it's tough enough.

I still have all the amps listed above, an an RG Stomp and I spent all day in a store with a POD for me the clear winner is the V-Amp2 its just that good!

(Why only 9, well nothing is perfect so nothing would get 10 from me;-)

I git this up and running right out of the box. I use a Line6 POD so this was a snap. I don't use presets very much as I just click it over by hand to the sims I want so I can't comment on patches or switchng delay problems addressed by others. I sent the unit back after 5 days so I didn't get much time with the manual either.

I bought this unit for the clean settings and stereo DSP effects and they sound really good. Using my strat I was able to get good clean jazzy tones and the bell like clarity I was looking for. THe guys I play with are are using direct units(drummer using D_Drums) so the volume problem on these amps is not a problem for me. The louder amp models though were WAY to noisy for me. The POD beats it hands down for harder edged tones. The only problem with the POD is it does not do stereo DSP. Still I was going to run an A/B box until...read on

I received it and it was plastic. The quality of the electronic components, mainly the pots, seemed very poor...and did I mention it was plastic. I would be carful not to pull the cord to hard out of it much less gig it. If you are using this in a controled environment where you can keep it safe..eh it will proly hold up, just don't drop it.

Customer Support : 6
One of the things I liked about this unit from the manufacturers web site is that you can upgrade the program on the chip inside the unit via midi instead of having to replace the chipset when new upgrades/software versions are implemented. Sadly it was plastic.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I play with a group of non-tradition musicians and we try to find new complementing tones, styles and arrangments rather than mainstream stuff and I think this unit would have fit in with the stereo DSP and good clean clear amp models but I wouldn't think of using the heavy models. They are just to noisy and I don't mean loud, I mean the signal is just trashy. I run a Line6 POD and I was just looking to complement it with this but again...you guessed, it was PLASTIC.

As long as you're not too impatient to read the manual, it's a breeze to use, and to experiment with. I definitely had to read the instructions - took me about a half hour and now it's completely intuitive.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm not a pro or full-time player at all - I use this as part of a PC driven home studio, where I record for the sheer joy of it. I play an Epiphone Dot 335, an '80's Fender Japanese Strat, and a totally crappy old Yamaha acoustic with a variety of pickups. All run through the V-Amp, then into the computer where I record with Guitar Tracks Pro.

For me, this thing is a Godsend. When I set up my studio, my goals were versatility, quality, and affordability. The V-Amp has all 3. For $100-$140 you could not ask for more. Using the guitars I've got I have been able to get virtually any sound I want out of this little thing.

I have to agree with some who've complained that the clean sounds are a little too quiet, but I make up for this in recording by running it through a mixer before going into the computer, so it's not a problem.

Also, it's definitely geared towards players who like heavier sounds. I play mostly guitar-based power-pop (Teenage Fanclub, Matthew Sweet, Big Star, etc.), and my choices are sometimes limited. But the Vox models, Tweed Combo, and Black Twin offer me nearly all I need.

Also, I love the Aux Input - I can run my cd player right through it, and exactly match my favorite guitar players' sounds.

Yes there is a delay when you switch presets. Not a problem if you're using it at home, like me. I can't imagine trying to use it live. (By the way, there's no delay as long as you're using the same amp/cab setup.)

Reliability : No Opinion
I think you'd be crazy to use it live. And I've heard that it's pretty easy to lose presets, but so far, so good.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to deal with them directly, yet. But the website is very informative, and there are several on-line boards where you can get answers to almost any question from users.

If you're a pro, or you expect perfection out of the V-Amp, you're going to be disappointed. But for someone who is using it as a part of a home hobby, like me, this is the perfect solution. I would recommend it without hesitation.

My only complaint - and this is a small one - is that this thing is designed really poorly. What's up with that psuedo-Tele shape? You end up with cords sticking out of 3 of the 4 sides of it, which is a mess. Hopefully in future models Behringer will give it a simpler, more efficient design.

i used (!!) it with an emg81-equipped jackson dx into a hughes&kettner edition silver (line in).
clean sound:
the clean sound output is not loud enough, but, with a little bit chorus and a nice model(v-amp clean,r-jazz chorus) it sounds very good!
distorted:
it's easy to get a very good marshall jcm800 sound, but, and now my biggest problem with this unit--->high gain sounds.
they sound good first, okay, but the sound is simply not direct and tight!!i tried to solve this problem by shutting the cab-simulation off....but it wasn't much better!sounds not tight....very uncool!!!!uncool,too-->when you switch patches you hear a loud KLICK and the switching is delayed...SHIT....
recording:
clean okay,overdriven/crunch also almost okay, and again, high gain sounds simply cheap,it has bass and balls, but ugly ones!

7 because clean is very okay

Reliability : 3
a half year after buying it,the electronic was broken!no idea why!!!i'm german,so support was okay, but i also know, that behringer products (although german ones) aren't built like tanks!!
i don't trust them.

This is one of the easiest effects unit I've ever programmed due to liberal use of unique digital knobs. This is a knob with a digital LED that shows it's current position. This is awesum when used with MIDI becuase you can see the value without the knob actually moving. Sometimes it's a bit confusing knowing what paramater data you may be adjusting so visits to the manual are frequent to figure out what the 2nd function is when combining effects. Some settings are only available through MIDI or the free patch editing tool. Getting this running is highly recommended.

Sound Quality : 7
Sound is pretty good. The nice thing is you can set your overall tone for all effects and also at the individual effects tone. AMP simulations are great. Chrous and flange could use more depth. Reverb can't be beat. Delay is ok. Alittle more movement in stereo would be nice. No Stomp box so you are stuck with AMP distortions. Forget crunch, it's weak. Noise gate and compression is middle of the road. Pretty low SN ratio.

Reliability : 4
Ahhhh, This is where I vent. I use this for in home studio only. Anyone taking this to a gig is absolutely NUTS. I have lost my patches on many occasions. This unit allows many connections and is very light so it will travel if not bolted down. When it does your power chord will pop out and in my experience you WILL lose your patches. Also if you have a MIDI loop it will scrable your units memory and really f up your patches. I have reset and redownloaded via midi my patches more times then I can count. Every time it happens I can't help to think who's the poor son of a bitch who took this thing to a gig and lost all his patches. That would suck so DON'T do it. This should not go on the road under any circumstances. A note to behringer,,, Please put a power switch on this thing!

Customer Support : 6
It took me forever to figure out how to get ahold of US support. Once I did the guy (and I think it's just one guy) was very helpful getting me a new rom to correct a problem where my reverb would spaz. That problem is fixed but I still lose patches regularly even with a fresh lithium battery. I'd give a 10 if their web site made it easier to find US support.

Overall Rating : 8
To reiterate this is a lot of machine for the money. The MIDI implementation is unbelievable for the cash. Effects are dam good considering price paid. This is frail unit that I would never let leave the basement.

After only using this for a few days, it has been relatively easy to get the sounds I want. I haven't really tried the deep editing, but this unit is obviously built for the technological illiterate.

Sound Quality : 10
I use an Epiphone G-400 (black) and a Washburn Lyon Series Strat (candy apple red) through both the V-amp 2 and a Line 6 Spider 212. I use the Berhinger FCB1010 to do my switching between amps. The V-Amp, depending on where I'm playing, either runs through a Roland JC-120 or the pa system. Either way, it sounds incredible. THe only noise I get is from my strat on the single coil settings at a really high gain when standing too close to the amp, but what amp doesn't do that. THe effects are OKAY on just the v-amp, but with the footpedal, control of the effects makes them that much better. Perfect for what I do (Christian Praise, Rock, Emo, Emocore) .

Reliability : 10
So far it holds up well. I accidently dropped it, but it still works great. I gig with it and the spider so I could do without the other for one show. But I like having the other to fall back on.

Customer Support : 8
Haven't had to deal with Behringer, but Ive heard some nasty things. One piece of advice, don't e-mail them. Call. If it means anything, always call.

LIke I said, I play a lot of emo, emocore, christian stuff, and some jazzy stuff with some friends as well. I cover a wide range, and this thing is great for it all. I've used all manner of crap, and although I don't believe digital can match analog right now, it's freaky to think what digital technologies will sound like in 10 years.

Most of the presets sound good, if a bit trebly. It's not too hard to dial that out, thoguh. The manual is pretty informative, though it covers a few V-Amp models, so can be a bit tricky to navigate.

Sound Quality : 7
There are some things this thing does well, and others not so well. For $140, do you really think it will create 100% realistic emulations of Vox, Matchless, Fender, Marshall, and Solando amps? If you want matchless or Solando, drop $3K on one of those. This does the job for perhaps a project studio or some live stuff.

Reliability : 5
The battery died on me, and I lost all of my presets. It wouldn't hurt to either know some of your favorite presets by heart, or have them backed up on a computer. It wasn't too hard to replace the battery, though the time between its purchase and failure concerns me. I don't use a lot of FX, and I also have a good tube amp and a Jekyll and Hyde distortion, so I've got a backup.

Customer Support : 10
I emailed Behringer about this problem, and they wrote back giving me some suggestions and sending me a new EPROM chip just in case. Their responses were quick and generous.

Overall Rating : 8
If you need something for more live applications, consider one of the Digitech RP lines. Otherwise, give the V amp a try. For the money, you can't go wrong.

It has 32 Amp models and 15 Cab models, MIDI in and out, Aux in with Volume control, a footswitch connector and NO power switch.

Basically this device is easy to use, it doesn't take a genius to figure out how they made this Pie. The Manual isn't great though,
a lot of the things I discovered weren't clear on the Manual.
A good example would be the Global 3 band EQ issue which I read about it on the V-amp forums. Basically the first time I ran into using that EQ was on the configuration Tab on the editing software, Then I noticed that when I change the configuration from S1 to L1,
I see the EQ leds on the V-amp, the rest, you know, kinda obvious.

Quick editing of patches is easy using the device itself, the computer software is really important on that aspect as it helps defining more is specific the parameters.

About the firmware issue, My device's firmware is 2.0.68 . I know the latest one is 2.1.1 but that doesn't really bother me.
I'm not a pro guitarist nor I want to be, I just enjoy my playing and it serves me as a musician.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a mixing console and Studio Monitors to hear the V-amp, I have no guitar Amp.

I have a Jackson Pro guitar, Japanese made, beautiful white color,
S S H configured, Reflex Active Pickups, basically the guitar sounds great by itself.

A lot of users complain about white noise and stuff like that.
I certainly didn't notice any, definitely not from the V-amp's outputs. I'm kinda Audio Freak, a musician too, I have a home studio, Which is why I checked that noise issue.

Okay, sound quality...

The first time I had a chance to see or hear it, was when a session guitarist brought it to a recording session at the studio which I am working right now as an engineer.

When I opened it up at home and started messing around it,
I discovered its true potential.
I have nothing but good things to say about its sound quality.

I was simply amazed by it. It has many Amp models, many are useful and vice versa, just like any other gear,
the same is said about the Cabinet models.

The onboard multi effect is excellent, I can't find another word to describe it, the Reverbs have beautiful clearence, Very defined, and they shape nicely the sound, without distorting the Source signal.
The same goes for the Delay and Chorus effects,
too bad the Compressor doesn't have more Parameters
such as Threshold and Make up gain.
It's useful though, it has Ratio and Attack parameters, Noise gate is welcome again, lack of parameters to it, I don't always use it, not on Lead sounds.

A lot of folks argue about whether it's better than the Line 6 POD or not, as a matter of taste my conclusion after comparing the two units one near the other is that the Behringer definitely defeats the POD as far as goes for sound quality, although the sample rate is 32 Khz.

The Amp models are a lot more authentic sounding than the POD.
The POD has something dead in its sound, it isn't open, and the Cab models just don't sound good to me, again, a matter of taste.

I definitely get my favourite sounds, especially for a Metal distortion, or Satriani type lead sound, or a bright clean, very versitle device, basically my favorite sound is my own sound.

Reliability : 7
I can't really answer that question, I don't plan to gig with it.

However, its plastic case kinda makes me a little worried and I do open up 10 eyes on it to make sure it's intact.

Hoe reliable is it? How reliable are their products?
Answer that question and I guess you know the rest...

Customer Support : 8
I only Emailed once to ask about the Firmware update and I got replied within a day, and their reply was straight and clear.

Overall Rating : 8
My style of playing is very not single layered, I play many styles,
From Metal to even Pop stuff, I also play drums and keyboards, I'm new to the guitar playing world which is why I didn't buy an Amp, too expensive.

I didn't expect this unit to sound like THE real thing, I know its abilities and its lack of abilities.

I've been dealing in the music world for about 12 years and I do many things today, that is Sound engineering, drumming, arrangments and productions.

I have Behringer Truth monitors, great speakers by the way, Eurorack 2004A which is very simple but straight forward, sound quality is okay.

I like its sound and the easy way of using it, its features.

Why on earth it has no Power Switch!?

it's a very useful tool for home and studio recording and live gigging, although it has an annoying delay when switching Patches.

The basic package that you get when buying one is more than Welcome, A carrying bag and a footswitch as well as the Power Cord.

I recommend this product to anyone who wants nice Amp sounds and has no budget for a good and solid Amp, it's not the best Emulator but it's definitely a worth buying product, and a good replacement.

Feel free to Email me and ask me anything about it, or anything about Audio Gear, I'll be delighted to help.

It is fairly simple to use. The diodes are a clever idea for indicating settings that are recalled from memory. I wish my other gear had that. As most others have said, it does need an on/off switch. Given the many controls on the unit, this would have been a cheap thing to have included.

Sound Quality : 9
Although I've not use other similar gear like the Pod, I'm very impressed with the sounds from this unit. For the money, this is a must-have, in my opinion. I originally bought this for my keyboard gear, but bought a guitar afterwards, which I use with it regularly.

It's rather intuitive. Just tweak the knobs some time and that's it. Editing patches might be easier by computer software, but since I don't own a midi cable I have no experience of it. Editing patches in the device itself is easy, but sometimes it feels that an extra hand would come in handy. Manual is OK, although I did not read it much before use. Explanations for the amp models are good. Footswitch is nice but I don't use it much.

Sound Quality : 9
I have a german Gibson SG copy and little Vox Pathfinder 15W. But i don't use V-amp2 in the Vox, instead I put it straightly through PC to my great speakers. Yes, it is noisy on high-gain simulations, but the others I did not find noisy. Effects are good I think except auto wah and rotary. Ph+delay & fl+delay are excellent I think, and reverb is very good as a stand-alone effect, as one can say. I got sounds of Metallica, The Shadows and Slade to count a few. Distortions are great, but clean sounds are quite silent, always I have to increase volume to hear them properly. I like all other amp sims except Calif. drive/clean. Cab sims I usually let be wherever they are always, but in high gain sims I usually change them. Once I got a kinda nasty distortion by this way. I give it 9 because the silent clean sounds and odd wah.

Reliability : 8
It is plastic so it is hard to say. If you handle it carefully it'll last long, otherwise it won't last long. I would take a risk and gig w/out backup, but it might be better idea to use it for recording.

I play along various bands; Iron Maiden, Metallica, Shadows, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Slade, Nazareth, Pink Floyd, that kind of music. Played for over three years. I own Schaller Wha-Wha/Fuzz, Century Distortion & my self-built "Tube-Breaker" pedal. It it's stolen or lost, I'll surely buy a new one. I like amp sims, and the big number of presets, plus most of the effects and the cab sims, but the wah and rotary are not as good features. I compared this to POD but I choosed this one for as simple reason as money. But POD didn't owe LED indicators(I think it didn't...). I tested this in one music store and wanted my own at once. I wish it had more balls in clean sounds and more balls in wah/rotary. I've recorded some cover songs with this and I found some nice sounds for bass guitar also. If you are a beginning guitarist(like me), a "guitarist who's finding his sound", this device is worth checking out.

I'm using this with a Telecaster and a Kramer Baretta. I use it for all situations, live, recording and headphone practice. Live, I run it through the PA and sometimes through my Marshall combo. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to use this equipment, but it is a little difficult to know how to get access to certain features and FX. And even after u do figure it out, because it requires multiple combination of button pushes, u forget how to unless u do it often. Im sure, it's about as difficult to use as POD or GNX FX cuz they put so much into a lil box with limited space for buttons.

Sound Quality : 9
The sound quality is where this thing shines for the money. I was totally surprised at the tone that this thing generates compared to the Line6 Guitar Port and my friends Flextone II amp. Im sure POD sounds similar to the Flextone II since it's essentially the same engine. POD has a flat 2D tone with not much character while this thing actually sounds full with depth of a tube sound. It's no tube but it's damn good quality and it has very little synth like quality if any to it. The clean tone can sound very tight and rounded and have body where the distortion can get thick and rich enough for some metal. I haven't tried to create death metal or thrashy metal but everything else it can do pretty damn good. You can dial in virtually any tone with this thing and have it sound very real and not synthetic. The FX r good but not great, but good enough and better then Line 6 Guitarport. The FX r probably on par with Genesis 3.

Reliability : 5
This is where the item falls a little short. It's all plastic case so it feels a lil fragile. I was shipped the latest eprom 2.1.1 and it's gone flaky so they r sending a new one. Besides that, everything still seems to be working and i've had it for about 6 months. I don't like the lack of power button on this thing and it worries me that turning on the unit with the power strip could send a jolt. How stupid is that they have all these features but no power button. The footswitch feels solid. I broke the reverb knob when i accidently dropped it from not so far distance so i super glued it back on and it's ok.

Customer Support : 8
I been able to get a person on the phone and with reasonable response when i had to.

I play blues, rock, metal, folk, pop, jazz and this unit has enough tones to satisfy all those needs. I would buy this thing again if it got stolen i think because it's so cheap and u get so much. But i also do have a Genesis 3 and that is also pretty damn good unit. For the money, u can't beat this thing. I think it has the most natural tone of all Multi FX boxes i've tried. I have Line 6 guitarport, i've tried the Flextone II (POD), have Genesis 3, and tried Boss GT-6.

Very simple to operate. However, the manual can tell you little nice "secrets" to tweak. Go on. Read the manual first, so you can get better results.

Sound Quality : 10
I have a hybrid Laney amp and some active and passive guitars. I tested all guitars with the V-Amp, and the result was good as a pre-amp for my laney.

However, I tried the V-Amp direct in a cheap hifi and.... I couldn't believe !!!! It was the BETTER sound that I heard in my room !!! I've tried other equipments, like GT-6, Zoom pedalboards and ampsim, boss pedals etc. Today, I think V-Amp is on the top, based on its sound quality. In the same level, i put the GT-6.

The fender sims are the best. Very beautiful. If you mix a little bit of compressor (very nice !!!!), you reach the SRV tone. Easy !

The marshall sims are good, like Boss/Roland sims. Very powerful and precise. In my opinion, the best marshall sim comes from Sansamp products. All the harmonics are there.

Mesa Boogie sims are regular. Sure, POD is better. But other hi-gain sims, like soldano, this V-Amp ROCKS THE PLACE !!!!

It can be used only as effects unit. Very nice ! All the effects are good (except the rotary), and the tap funcion is fantasic.

You have to tweak a little to reach the better output configuration for your purposes. Remember its like an amp. So, try to connect it directly in a hifi, PA, mixer etc. Its when this unit really shines.

Features listed below. Ease of use is as good as any of these kind of units. I particularly like the fact that the settings are displayed with LEDs - nice and clear. Editing is a breeze, and manual covers anything you're not certain about, although I had this up and running well before I unpacked the booklet.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using this mainly for recording and practicing through head phones. I'm amazed at the sound quality. I had a POD II which sounded pants through headphones, but this really fills some space. Let me make it clear that whilst I love valve amps, I'm no expert. I can't really comment on simulation accuracy, but it sounds like an amp, not a digital processor and that's the main thing. If you're after great tones, just fiddle with the dials. The effects section is pretty great, very intuitive also. Nice to have so many reverbs, although I don't know if I'll need them all. I like the way all the amps seem to sound good with any amount of gain, not just maxed out or clean.

I run a Gibson LP Classic w/57 HBs, and a 72 tele custom.
Any guitar should sound nice through this unit, it has a slew of modern and vintage amp sims. The effects for the most part are good, the rotary however sucks. I run this through a crate VC 3 10s, 50 watt tube amp from the clean channel. Sounds really nice. i like the fact that it has a separate "Drive" function that allows you too get more or less overdrive from the simulated amp than just the gain knob.
I have owned numerous amps and this thing does a good job of emulating them. My only real complaints are 1. could use a power switch. and 2. very noisy when near a computer monitor. other than that, for the money you can't go wrong.I choose this over the line six because I noticed very little differnce other than a little less dynamics on some of the effects. I use it primarily as a preamp, and still run my 66 fuzz face, ts 808, and cry baby wah with it. I like the Marshall sounds as well as the blackface. I feel the twin sim on this is as close to the real thing as any I have heard, I ran a twin for 11 years, and know the sound well. The modern gain settin nails the Boogies. The pre sets for artis such as Santana, EVH, etc. are good. Some tweaking is required, but out of the box it is excellent.
I rated it an 8 only because of the rotary. It has an excellent echo effect.

Reliability : 3
Not really sure yet, light, plastic, would not leave it on top of a tube amp such as this crate for fear of vibration. I would'nt want to drop it. Kepp it away from fumbling hands. I do gig with it, but I can still get by if it shits the bed with my other pedals and amp.
Although I would miss it greatly as I rely on the Marshall and Fender sims for the cover tunes that I play.

The sound quality is the real surprise.Using it on Lapsteels,Strats, electric mandolins,Les Paul type guitars i have had very good results live. But the big test was when i took it in to one of Melbourne,s best recording studios to lay down some guide tracks on my old Supro lap steel.I was waiting for the call from the control room as to some noise or a crap sound, but i got the compliment "great sound, wish everyone was that quick!"I bought a V-Amp2 to get a few reasonable amp sounds, not to try and compensate for poor gear or ability. The compessor, gate and reverb are of good quality but the tuner lets down the team.I could have bought a POD at 5 times the price but why?I am not likely to use 75% of whats in the POD anyway.I just want to play music, not split the ATOM!

I use this with my Les Paul Studio. This is primarily a practice unit for me, as I own a moderately sized studio and for real work, obviously, miking a real stack in a room is going to sound the best. But also obviously, this is rarely practical for when you want to just jam or make a demo or practice. This is where the modellers come in for me. I compared the V-Amp 2 with the Pod, Pod XT, and the Johnson. This thing definitely blows them all away. And unlike those, the hi-gain sounds actually sound right. This is really a wonderful unit and hats off to the quality German engineering. This thing is a great value. And for those thinking of using it for recording, really I think you could get away with it. Next to actually miking up the older amps, this is probably the next best thing.

Reliable enough. I haven't gigged with it or anything, I have my own setup for that, but I use it in the studio and at home all the time for jamming and coming up with stuff. So much more convenient than cranking up a real amp. Just run it into your monitors or stereo.

Haven't had to deal with them. Doubt I'll have to.

I play some unique styles, but mostly progressive rock, concept rock, and some fusion and psychedelic rock. I use a lot of sounds when coming up with ideas. This unit offers some great sounds that are usable, and it's very convenient and easy to use. I recommend it if you're in the market for this sort of device and are considering it among the others like the Pod and Johnson. This one's the one. Cheaper than pod too!

Didn't seem that difficult... need to read over the manual to figure some stuff out, but it's certainly easy to get the sounds your looking for... Kind of annoying that you have to use a computer to do some of the deep editing... But when you do use the computer, it's really easy to work with.

Sound Quality : 9
I have to say that I really enjoy this little thing. Strangely, I find it works best with crappy amps... My friend has an old solid state rack-mount power amp that he runs into a no-name, generally "tubby" sounding 4x12 cabinet. By putting the V-amp infront of that and playing with that 3 band EQ that the live mode gives you access to, it makes that amp sound better than my all tube marshall... go figure... I bought it mainly for working through a P.A though (a lot lighter than carrying an amp around), and I'm really impressed by that... For recording, it gives me the best sounds I've ever had (and I've been playing with recorded guitar sounds for quite some time).

I find that different amps sounds better with different guitars. I have a Gibson Les Paul Studio, and an American Standard Strat with Semour Duncan Alnico II pickups. The strat sounds great through a lot of the vintage kinds of amps like the AC-30's, fender's, vintage marshalls. I even like it through some of the high-gain models. The Les paul, however, really drives it more in the high-gain stuff. I particularly like the California Clean with my Les Paul. With my strat it sounded dumb, with the Les Paul, it was amazing... on the other hand, the AC-30's sounded dark and muddy with the Les Paul, where as the strat sounded amazing with them... But you find those kinds of things with real amps too.

Certainly not as good as the real things, but definatly useable, and it gives you way more variety than the real things ever would.

Well, I have no choice but to go without a backup, so yeah, I figure I can depend on it. The footswitch seems pretty rugged, and I like the padded bag that it came with (beats tossing stuff aimlessly into a back pack)

Haven't had problems yet.

Overall Rating : 9
I play jazz, rock (new and old), latin, metal, blues, country, pop, R&B, classical and basically anything that involves guitars. I'd already had a great rock setup before getting the V-Amp (Les Paul through a Marshall, can't complain about that), but it simply wasn't versatile enough. And I personally don't even like that "strat through a Marshall" sound. I was seriously considering investing in another amp or two, but instead I've now eliminated the need to take an amp altogether. If it was stolen, I'd have get another modeller. I've been spoiled now, so why go back? Might pick up something like a vox valvetronix amp though... I love those things, just couldn't justify the money. For the price, I think this is pretty hard to beat.

i put it to my hifi and i think its a very good sound. but if i want to choose my bridge humbucker i get a really bad high note (not played. the whole time)

i don't get it to produce a good nirvana sound and also die arzte (german group) is not really easy to program

i play for 1 year electric guitar and 2 years acoustic guitar and i think for a hobby it couldn't be better. it would be just better if it had a bigger midi board

i would share it to a dod xt because the guitarman (sorry don't know the word in english) from die arzte has this one for play at small concerts.

Editing patches without the manual or pc software would be difficult, as you'd need to know the button combonations to press to make changes. Amazingly, there was no english manual included with my v-amp2. It was easy enough to get a pdf version from their website, and, once I looked at it, editing became rather easy.

I am so amused by all of the responses I read for products here. If you asked me, I don't see how this helps anyone, in anyway, to make a purchase decision! For the most part, there is no unbiased assessments of products here. It's all very silly. Ok, now I'll attempt to give an unbiased opinion on this device...

This device is very good for the money. I got it for less than 100.00 new.

Sound Quality : 7
I basically bought it to practice through headphones, and a bit of pc recording.

For those purposes, it's just what I expected. Why on earth would anyone plug this through a nice tube amp? For crying out loud! You're already getting good tone! Sheesh!

The effects:
Alright, let's get something straight here: autowah is a totally useless effect, and always will be! It shouldn't be included with ANY multi-fx, and yet it always is...The other effects are ok. Not premium. Again, what do you expect for the price? A miracle?

I don't understand how anyone could not get a good sound out of this, or any other unit, for that matter. I can pretty much dial in anything on here, and play to the tone that's there. Of course, I can also edit to personal taste, for something that I want to hear.

Reliability : 7
It's plastic. How dependable could it be? Drop yours and find out. I'll just take care of mine, thank you very much. Like anything, if you treat it well, it's going to last.

Yes, I'd use it without a backup. Because I'm CAREFUL with my stuff! If you're not, well then, bring a backup. It's not brain surgery!

Customer Support : 8
Never dealt with the company. No opinion.

I play any style of music. I can use this for any style I choose to. I've been playing for about 26 years, not that that matters to you, or anyone reading this. I've got a Zoom 9150, a GT-5, Peavey amps, several guitars, and a bunch of other assorted things.

If it were stolen or lost, I would buy another, because it's great for the money. I like all of the features - I really like the knobs for editing sounds. It would be nice to have an on-off switch, but that's really no big deal.

I didn't bother comparing it to any other comparable product, because it was cheaper, and I can dial in good tones from it. Why pay more for the same features? If you want to spend more, go for it.

Look, make up your own mind. Here's some food for thought, though:
Buy something else, pay more money, pay less money, whatever. You're not going to get a totally authentic tube sound from ANY modeler - ever! If you're concerned about labels, buy the POD. If you want to save money, buy whatever is cheap. It's not that complicated.

I don't give a rip about artist endorsements. It's my money that's paying for the thing.

Easy to use, not so easy to get a good sound. Editing is very easy, saving is easy, no problem here. Lots of features, most notably the live/studio options, where you can have one chanell with sp sim, the other without, they are really well thought. But there is a delay when changing patches, wich for me is unacceptable.

Sound Quality : 7
I use it with a Yamaha Pacifica 311 Tele copy (very nice cheap guitar). I must state from the beggining that I am a live sound and studio engineer. I know what sounds good and what doesn't. I know how to use an EQ do fix a sound.
This unit sounds ok, but after a while you notice that all the sounds have some very annoing upper mids frequency content. I also noticed that the only speaker sim that sounded OK was the 2x12 vamp. All the others weren't usable at all for me. You can get a few different nice sounds, that would sound good on a demo record, but not good enough for a serious studio session. The Marshall jcm800 sounds OK, I repeat, not good enough for studio work.
The effects are ok, except the reverb wich is probably the worst type I heard in a multifx unit. The phaser, tremolo, autowah are really good.
This unit has a 32k sampling rate, wich for me just isn't enough. I guess that's why everything sounds a bit muffeld and with 4-5KHz ringing.
I am not a modeller hater, actually I recently bought Yamaha's DG Stomp. It does not have 32 amps, and the speaker sims are not that variate, but there is a HUGE difference soundwise. Now that are studio quality guitar sounds.
I consider my DG Stomp to earn a 9, and this thing in comparition would make 7 at best.

Reliability : 8
I don't know about reliability. But I know that I wouldn't use it live because of the patch change delay. Absolutely useless for me. Considering the features regarding live/studio use, it would've been worth it for Behringer to improve on that problem.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them

Overall Rating : 7
I wouldn't buy it again, actually I am trying to sell it. It's ok for a toy, or for someone recording guitar demos. If I had this unit 5 years ago, I would've LOVED it. Now, since I am more critical to my sound and I need something really professional, I just don't find it usefull at all. I also own a Tech 21 Trademark 60 amp, with decent direct recording capabilities, a Korg Ax1000g, wich has superb effects and nice direct sound, and now the Yamaha DG STomp, wich for now fulfills olmost every need for live or studio work.

The knobs are all in the right place.. After reading the manual, there was no problem whatsoever using the unit.

Kramer guitar with a quad rail humbucker in the bridge position -> preamp overdrive -> V-Amp2 -> computer.

I play mostly METAL and ROCK, so I'm gonna review this unit based on that.

I think it has some OK sounds, nothing very good. The Amp models I find useful are the brit high gain and the modern high gain. Some good cabinet models are # 2, 7, 12, 15 IMO. The others sound way too muffled or too grainy.

Now.. to the cons:
I can't understand why so many ppl actually LIKE the sound of the Rectifier models!! The sound is very painful to listen to at loud volumes, it's very ugly. It doesn't matter how much I tweak, It still sounds like shit. And the bass!!! AAAAHh!!! It's horrible! it's way too loose. Have you ever listened to Meshuggah for example? on their older songs they are using dual rectifier, and just listen to that nice smooth TIGHT high gain sound (not to forget the nice smooth "fizz" that doesn't exist on the V-Amp2)!! It's not to be found on the V-Amp2.
The V-Amp is also very noisy, even at lower gain settings on ALL amp models. The noise gate helps, but the noise shines through if you start playing softly. I'd like it to be less noisy, so that you can actually play softly without hearing the buzzing sound.
The effects are halv decent. The reverb sucks big time.

pros:
I've managed to get nice rock sounds and some metal sounds with the modern high gain model and the brit high gain model.
It does all sounds that aren't 'metal' decently.

Reliability : 7
This unit is built like a paper bag. The thin plastic feels like it would fall apart any second. However, if you treat it very gently, I think it would last for some time.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 5
I play mostly metal, and this unit is not very good for that style. The rectifier model, which in reality, is a very good amp for metal, SUCKS on the V-Amp2. So if you're into metal and want to buy this type of unit, get a J-Station or a Digitech Genesis1 or Genesis 3. *NOT* a V-Amp2. Not a POD for that matter. Maybe the POD XT, but NOT the V-Amp2 or POD2.

The company behind the J-station (johnson) is actually the same company behind the Genesis family (Digitech). No wonder ppl think they sound the same!

In the near future I'm going to buy a digitech genesis 1 just because it has such a good dual rectifier sound. I'll save the V-Amp2 because it does the other sounds decently.

mmm,32 amp models, a few sounds like crap to me but the hi gain amp distortion n classic clean are worth for the price!the noise gate is not really effective as i'm now facing problem as having undesirable nasal hiss after each note. The clean sounds really did a good job, 90%. The distortion sounds impressive however lost some good feedback tone that guitarists love to play with. Effects are kinda weak especially the auto wah, 'U call that a wah??? Behringer?' hahahaha!but frens, it is a very good toy to play with, its worthy! compared to POD2,sound quality comes very close,I say:why pay more for POD2??hahah. if it has a higher price, i would rate it 7.

This thing is fairly easy to use, buit then again I am not new to these type of things. I guess if you have never done anything with effects you might take a while to figure it out.

This is why I wanted to do a review on this product. This thing is a beginner level effect. That said I have used it to record direct, and it just doesn't cut it. It can not compare to higher end stuff (POD, BOSS, Roland). The people who like this thing must have not compared it to these. Granted it is a lot less expensive, but once again it is BEGINER STUFF.
It might be great for the kids who are playing in the garage, and just want some heavey sound.
Tone here sux.
I have also used it through a Marshall JCM stack, Fender super, Roland JC-120, and a Peavey 5150 stack. I didn't think it was possible to hurt the sound of these amps, but this thing sux.
The only way I could get a decent sound was to run into the JC-120, but that still did not produce good sound.
Save your money, and get something good, I would recoment the Boss GT-6 or ME-50, The POd is not bad, but once again if you get the rack mount pod pro you'll do yourslf a favor.
As for the effects on this, once again this is a toy.

I was given this thing to check out by a friend, who wanted to see what would be a good setup for it. I gave it back and gave him an old digitech. I don't use the Digitech any more as there is better stuff out there now, but even at late 70's the board I gave him is better.
Kids, this is for you. Have fun with it, but when you grow up get some real gear.
I'll geve it a 3 because there is worse (Zoom 505, Digitech rp100,200, 300)

i used my schecter, it sounds good...not quite the feedback that i can get from the vetta. but/ hey its really great! i went through the 125 preset list, marking which ones i'll change and which ones i'll keep. mainly the hi-gain amps dont really sound 100% like their masters, although the cabinets do a great job of clearing or muffling! definietly great effects. need some distortions tho! whasup with that? lol umm...overall sound is going to be excellent for recording and stuff!!!!!1

This is where Vamp 2 shines!
Editing patches is something I really love working at and compared to Zoom's 'all-in-one' effects Behringer has gone way beoynd Zoom when talking 'bout user-friendly interface. Everything can be accessed rightaway.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using Vamp for my little homestudio through PA. I have nothing to complain here, this is one of the most incredible sounding systems I'v used. Only lack would be with distortion, for my blackmetal-friends didn't find any preset sharp enough... well, as for thinking afterwards, they didn't notice 'drive' button, which guarantees some pre-effect extra gain. One can probably get way better sounds when building hardware-setup from different components, but for 150? Behringer does quite well! No humming, nice reverbs.

Reliability : 7
This is something I'm quite mad 'bout... I bought mine used and everything worked well until I put power on again... what'a..? All presets were gone? I just reloaded factorypresets, but they are again overwritten with some strange sets that even craziest ex-owner wouldn't had used! Problem seemed to be with battery, so what can I say... this problem ain't documented and users are having problems with batteries running out? Tsk, tsk... Behringer should have have warned about this might happen... As for moving Vamp around I feel confident. Whole box feels quite solid even though it's made of plastic.

Customer Support : 3
No troubleshooting info, no user forums... Where the heck should I find some strong FAQ about how to fix this thing? I'm not the kind of person who would hunt for someone who know by calling over countries... Internet is THE word nowdays, so can't Behringer use it? Bah...

Overall Rating : 9
I find Vamp great base for homerecording. The quality of sound is incredible and the ease of use guarantees fast editing. For 130e everyone should have one :)

I have only owned the v-amp for 1 day, and I haven't
been off it at all except to write this review.
This little box is an absolute bargain, and I can't imagine
many guitarist being disappointed with what you get for the money.
It's easy to use, and the manual makes sense of the relatively
uncomplicated interface.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using the v-amp with a Delta 1010 soundcard, and a Roland 840ex.
It's difficult to rate the unwanted noise level in my studio, as I'm
having problems with an earth loop somewhere. On distorted sounds I get lots of mains hum, but this happened with my previous amp so I can't really attribute it to the v-amp. I expect it's quite quiet in
an earth loop free environment. The clean sound capabilities are excellent, and the distortions are also convincing. The v-amp doesn't
behave exactly like a real tube amp i.e feedback capabilities, but
in every other way you would be hard pushed to record as good a guitar
sound on to your computer by the more conventional method of miking up
a amp and DIing it simultaneously (unless you have expensive mics,
a live room and a good studio engineer).
For people who are on a budget, who want to record guitar onto a hard disk recorder or computer, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this
stunning little gadget. I have heard the Line 6 Pod as well, and thought the distortions on that were perhaps a little more honed,
but there is very little in it. The extra #100 for the Pod is not really justified in my opinion, and I think Behringer as usual are far more reasonable in their pricing philosophy.

Reliability : No Opinion
As I mentioned, I've only had the v-amp for 1 day so I can't assess the reliability of it at this stage.

Customer Support : No Opinion
The only criticism I have is that the editing software doesn't seem
to work on my computer, it can't seem to scan my midi ports properly.
I haven't been in touch with the customer support about it, I may
contact them in the future concerning their software but hey, anything
that runs on windows is never guaranteed to work in my opinion so I'm
not going to fret about it. Sorry about the inadvertant 'fret' pun...

I mainly make electronic music similar to bands like Boards of Canada.
(www.xurba.co.uk if you're interested)
My first instrument is the guitar, and I've been playing since I was
6 years old, and I'm 31 now. I used to play fusion jazz in the style
of Allan Holdsworth, as well as being in to a bit of prog rock like
Gentle Giant, and more crazy music like the Cardiacs and Frank Zappa.
I'd say the v-amp is versatile enough to cover most genres you can think of, and if someone nicked it and I couldn't find them then I would definitely buy another. It's quite addictive having all those
amp sounds in a little blue guitar-shaped gadget!

take the time to read the manual and it will come easily to you. EXPERIMENT! i can't stress this enough.. experiment and chances are you'll find a couple of tones you like.

Sound Quality : 6
overall, it sounds harsh to me. anyway, i'd like to share a setting i discovered that sounds very much like chuck schuldiner's (R.I.P) rhythm tone when he was playing in the band DEATH. bass: 3 o'clock, mid: 2, treble: 10, gain: 2, drive: 1(obviously), cabinet: 15, amp model is MODERN HI-GAIN. try it and be blown away by how close it gets to the best death metal tone in my opinion. death's tone is really HEAVY but clear at the same time.
if i'm just judging this tone, it gets a 10 for how close it gets to death's tone and how GOOD it sounds. however, it sounds harsh on all settings (amp models, cabinets, eq etc). can't get the liquidy overdrive tone.

Reliability : 7
it seems reliable enough for home use. i've had it for less than a year, but we'll see.

Fairly easy to use. Although I don't like how you have to hold down the 2 function key to get the other amp models and effects parameters. Try doing that will a guitar in you lap or on stage.

Sound Quality : 8
There are some very useable amp models on this and some that either plan suck or a just repeats. The modern A class is crap and so is the custom A glass. The Californian drive is pretty muddy and crappy.
Having said that I really like the Fender Blackface, VOX AC30, the VAMP crunch and drive as well as the fender combo.
The heavy distortion types such as the mesa boogies, soldano and savage beast sound quite similar with the only difference being the standard eq's.
All the effects are quite good especially the noise gate--very useful.
Presence control is great especially for recording. Eg bring down the rhythm guitar's presence whilst retaining clarity and bring out the lead.

I use this through an Ampeg Reverberocket, with a strat, and it sounds great, all the effects work well and its easy to tweak the distortion, and the depth of the reverb. It is somewhat noisy, its got taht techy buzz to it... but when you're playing you can barely hear it. The noise gate works well to stop this, but it only works when you're not not playing.

Mine has broken twice, but one time it was because a pin broke on the plug, and the other time I plugged it into the wall the wrong way. They should just have an on/off switch. If you're not an idiot like me however, then it is very reliable, I would gig wihtout a backup definitely.

Take it from someone who has played through a crap load of effects units, including modeling tools... the Vamp2 is one of the best out there. For the money, you can't beat it, not even with other units in the $300 range. I've played Zoom and Digitech modeling pedals, which cost much more, but they don't stand up to this as far as sound quality, even though the sampling rate for the Vamp2 is only 30'something Khz. Makes no difference here.
Noise Gate alone is worth the money. Delays kick ass. Phase and Flanger are very sweet. Best of all... you can use reverb along with any effect. It has several reverbs too.
Amp sims are unbelievable. Everything from Metal to Jazz - no problem here.

I LOVE THIS THING! Everything is easy to understand or navigate through. You just hook up and wail away to guitar paradise. No kidding!

One thing that kept me from buying this at first was the design, looked more like a toy. In rack design, I would have bought this right away. The package includes a handy gig bag and pedals. So you get a great value for your money. And playing through it is great fun. Most of all, it matches well with my style of playing.

It is lightweight and easy to set up. Just plug in and go....

Sound Quality : 10
Finally I got the sound I was looking for, and this with the factory sounds. I have used this daily since last six months and have given me more playability from my guitar. Still I got a plenty of sounds and custom tweeking to do, but I am happy with the presetted sounds, if I would need some new other sounds to keep me happy I got some tweeking to do.

For the money I paid for it, it sounds great. There may are racks and preamps, perhaps with even better qualities, but at pricetag which is double for this. Fianlly I can pull off some of Eddies tricks which have not been that easy before. And some of the presetted sounds is pretty close to his brown sound.

Reliability : 10
So far so good... I don't do live gigs, but I would not hesitate to use it on stage or other gigs.

Customer Support : 10
You can download upgrades 4 free on their website. That is exellent service. The manual is easy follow.

Sometimes beauty is skin deep. that is the case with this. I primaly use devises like this when I practise or write own music, and it works just fine. I have playing guitar for 20 years and refuse to get old... Still with metal riffs. If some unforgivable person would rip this thing from me I would with no doubt what so ever be in market for a new one.
It has clear sound, distinctive over all notes. And give me more color and texture to my playing. Just picture this, at the same occation I also went for a Cry Baby, which I have not plugged in yet.

I remember first time when I unwillingly (based on its toy looks) plugged in during a lunch break, I kept on playing through it untill the store closed for the night. (My symphaties goes to the staff there...)

Last but not least, I am not hired to promote this, I bought mine. But don't walk to nearest shop to give it a try, run!

Well laid out and fairly easy to use.

I've owned one now over a year so thought I'd do an update. When I first tried the V-amp2 infront of my Fender DR it didn't sound that great. Now I have an amp with an effects loop and it works much better this way. Also for practicing through head phones, with a CD or radio plugged in, the V-amp it is just great! Some of the effects are a little weak, like the wah, but overall you can get great rock and clean sounds. Excellent reverbs and delay and good amp models to choose from.
Great for someone starting out and still usefull for someone who has played for a while.

Reliability : 8
Well it's plastic so I would not be too hard on it. One little cover came
loose so I removed the back and put it back in place. Man there were alot
of IC chips in there. More than you'd think for a $129 device.

Never had to deal with them.

Have owned other DSP(digital signal processing) products from Line 6 ecetra and many amps, tube and otherwise. If something does not sound good who cares if it's cheap, you won't use it. The V-amp2 sounds very good and is inexpensive. For practicing through head-phones or as an effects box, in the effects loop of an amp, it works nicely. I've never regretted buying the V-amp2. An Eventide Harmonizer might be better but there is a *slight* price difference :)

The V-amp2 is super easy to use - I run a midi triangle with the PC and my FCB1010, and could not ask for more!

Sound Quality : 8
Price aside, the amp modelling is amazing on this processor. The amps all sound very good, from the cleanest to the rectified head. Also, the cabs all greatly change the sound, and really do sound close to the cabinet they similate. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the effects (some, at least) are not up to snuff. The chorus and phaser kinda suck, and there's not enough versatility in the flanger. However, the compressor works well, and the trem is all you could ask for --- plus you tap in the beat instead of using a speed knob ... so much easier.

Reliability : 10
This, so far, has been the most dependable pedal/effect i've owned, I've had it for a little under a year now. The DigiTech RP200 (yah, yah, it has a whammy), while weighing horribly 8 pounds more, just didn't seem as solidly built. . . nothing, short of my morley wah, seems to be built tougher. The good thing is, if you ever did break it or something, it's very cheap to replace.

Customer Support : 10
I've never personally dealt with the company, but one of my friends has. We checked with the store we bought it at first, and they gave us a few hints. basically, don't email them. It's the impersonal way, and everyone and their dead uncle emails them, responses take time. Call them. answers right away, and good service.

Overall Rating : 9
This is an amazing value, comes with its own stomppad and gig bag...everything you need, pretty much. I play any and every style of music, and the only things i could wish for from this product are: 1) an on-off switch, 2) a hand-less or one-button amp bypass, for when using in combination with other pedals, 3) slightly better chorus and phaser, with the ability to access the stereo flanger and chorus without the use of a computer.

Oh that reminds me. . . when connected to a computer using Midi, you suddenly have the ability to run your effect (chorus1&2, trem, flange1&2, phaser, rotary), compressor, auto-wah, wah, noise gate, delay (echo, simple delay, and ping pong), reverb and amp and cabinet all at once, instead of just effect, reverb amp and cab like on the base unit ... seems like an afterthought or something, but it's nice that you can be running multiple things at once ... too bad you need to connect it to a computer, then save the preset, to do this...

dead easy to get good useable dounds out of this unit and it's dead easy to edit patches too. The manual is clear and concise but i didn't really need it that much cos the V-AMP 2 is very intuitive.

Sound Quality : 10
I use my trusty Ibanez Rg550(see review)into the V-AMP 2 into my Boss BR1180 and the sounds available are just phenomenal. The COSM pre-amp on the BR1180 just did not cut the mustard as far as useable guitar sounds was concerned so I hooked up my Line6 Flextone combo but was not very happy with the sounds. So after reading loads of reviews in Guitar mags etc I went to the shop and tried the V-AMP 2 and was blown away. so I bought one.
When recording I use the preset sounds and they are just great. But the hi-gain pre-sets are a bit noisy(same on the Flextone) but with a little knob fiddling(ooer missus!) I can get a tone i am happy with.
When I record i record dry and add effects later using the BR1180 reverbs, delays etc and they sound fine. The Delays etc on the Behringer are ok too.

Reliability : 7
Well as long as you don't jump up and down on it it should be ok but considering how cheap it is I might by another just to be on the safe side. I never gig w/out a backup(even amps and guitars) cos you never know when things will happen do you?

Very informative and useful web site and very good customer support. In Europe anyway.

For Rock and Metal it is great but is also very good for Blues and I have got some very nice clean sounds but it's all in the ear of the beholder. Sounds that sound good to me may sound shite to someone else.
I it were lost or stolen I would definitelt get another cos for 93 quid you can't go wrong. I still can't believe how cheap this unit was. I looked at the POD XT(300 quid) the PODv2(199 quid) and the V-amp 2 won hands down. I have yet to use it in a live situation but for recording purposed it is the DOGS BOLLOCKS and I can't recommend it enough. One of my work colleagues was so blown away by the V-AMP 2 that after trying mine out he went and bought his own. Top stuff!! It is just so damned easy to use and sounds AWESOME!!! Just plug in and wail away(I do for hours at a time).Oh yes there is a V-AMP users group on Yahoo that is useful.

V-AMP's layout is great!
Since i'm using it mostly at home, have i connected it to my computer with midi and using V-AMP Editor.
But it's very easy to change the settings when i'm playing somewhere else with my friends :)
I didn't buy V-AMP 2, i bought V-AMP and upgraded it to V-AMP 2.
Therefor i don't have all the text on it, but it's easy anyway.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using following:
V-AMP 2 (upgraded from V-AMP)
Fender TwinReverb (no reissue, TubeAmp, 100Watts)
Epiphone Gibson Les Paul Standard

Since i upgraded from V-AMP 1 i can check the sound quality between them. I've noticed that V-AMP 2 sounds much better in my setup, it's a more powerful sounds that makes me play for hours even if i really don't know the tunes in the song i'm playing :)
But...the sharp and really hard sound :( But the solution to that was to look here, and read that when i play on my amp, bypass should be selected for cabinet :) thx guys and girls!

Reliability : 10
I used V-AMP 1 for a year and then i got the upgrade for my birthday (from my guitar loving dad ) and have used it for a total of two years and i have never had any problems with it. It has alwas worked VERY fine! I have carried it to friends and back, it have been stuffed in a car several times. It always stands like the master on my amp and smiles at me when i enter the room and tells me to play something :)
But a friend of mine have the battery problem (also found: what to do here on harmony-central) so i'm going to tell him what to do :)

I havent been in touch with the support, yet.
I'm going to ask them where i can find a front for v-amp2 so that all the text is right.
If anyone already asked them about it, please email me and tell them what they said: mr.marcus@telia.com

Very nice interface. Takes no time to get good tones out of it. The manual is very detailed, but a handy chart of all the reverb types and amp models and cab models would be nice...
I think mine is version 2.1, 'cause it came with a manual add on for some new midi functions.
Also came with a nice big Behringer sticker and manuals in german, french to Indian.

As many have mentioned.... no on/off switch....
came with a sturdy metal footswitch and adaptor and carrying bag. Great deal :)

I have a Fender Hotrod deluxe and Peavey Triumph 120, both tube amps, in addition, I have had a marshall valvestate 2x12 and park marshall practice amp and Marshall MS-1 midget amp. Pedals, I own the Zoom gfx707, Boss BD2, DS1, Ibanez TS7 and SM7. Guitars, I have a Gibson Lp Studio, Fender Mexistrat, Jackson PS7, Dinky, Ibanez Rg250, Washburn 7 string and an Ovation Legend. I am 17 and have been playing for 3.5 years. I play anything from Baroque to Jazz to shred.

The V-amp2 sounds great through headphones and a set of computer speakers. I record direct into my 4-track and it sounds better than my fender hrd mic'ed up.... but its probably cuz i have a crappy mic. Anyways, the cleans are very nice and full, but it doesnt really compare with my fender. Mid-gain, marshall and vox models are nice and ballsy. High gain models like the soldano and engl and the mesa dual rect are my favourite; they sound really "there." I know this is not a fair comparison, but the zoom gfx707 is like nothing next to the v-amp. Most of the v-amp's settings sound pasable if not good to my ears... i only use two models on the zoom. The v amp sounds very organic. The effects are okay, but are definitely not "studio grade" as Behringer describes it. I don't really use much effects, but the chorus sounds thin and trebly to me. The compressor sounds fine, though.

I've not yet tried the POD, but im sure that the v amp makes up for the little possible difference with its pretty LED lights, low price and acessories.

Reliability : 8
Dunno, only had it for a couple of weeks. i've read about some problems about the power jack and memory battery though.... so minus 2 for reliability.

I don't feel that have wasted a cent, even though I paid 53 US to ship it to New Zealand. The shops here are asking 350 US dollars a piece :S. Sounds great, works great. Oh yeah, its in the shape of a lp/tele body, just thought i'd mention that.... yer, it looks great, too :).

If you don't have a preconceived prejudice for Digital Signal Processing units, and you dont feel like spending a lot on a POD, the v-amp will do nicely for you.

I have been playing more since i've had the v-amp... may be its becaue of the absence of the on off switch? once its on, you don't want to turn it off :D

This unit works great right out of the box. Easier to figure out than POD, and very easy to modify presets. Manual is helpful when you need it.

Sound Quality : 8
I use this live and in home recording studio. Live through the PA system. Works well with all my guitars: Schecter C1+, Strat kit guitar, Ibanez Artcore jazz box. It even gives a decent tone for bass using the tube preamp setting (bass is a Fender MB5).

Reliability : 6
I bought this in March 2002. About eight months later it started acting like its memory was going bad. I tried contacting Behringer by email a couple of times. No response. Limped along by resetting the unit to factory presets every time I turned it on. Then I found a V-amp users group and learned that the battery contacts sometimes don't stay connected. I opened up the unit, took the battery out, cleaned it up, and haven't had any trouble with it since.

Customer Support : 1
Based on lack of response to email inquiries, I'm not impressed with Behringer's customer support.

I play all styles, and the versatility of the V-amp is amazing. I also own a Music Man 110 50 watt combo amp that I never use live any more. I'm spoiled by not having to carry an amp any more. The other guitarist I work with most often has a Fender Cyber-twin. Nice unit, but not any better tone-wise. I've been playing since about 1971. If this were stolen, I'd probably buy another one... nothing else comes close for the price. It's a drag not to have an on-off switch, and I've almost destroyed the power cord connector that plugs into the unit. Be VERY careful with it! Easy to bend the pins.

I was surprised from the start,I tried the V-amp 2 down at the local music store I've been going to for 25 years.I found it very easy to use, and that's important to me, I want to play not try to figure things out!About a good sound,"beauty is in the ear of the beholder".I'm adding my comments (reviewing this product) only after reading most of the sumitted reviews.I'm happy to say,I'm glad I didn't read them before I bought mine, I probably would have had a preconcieved idea that I wouldn't of liked it.I've been looking for that 'sound' we're all looking for,and now I'm realy happy with it.Like most (maybe) musicians who have had quite a few effects,I quickly sped through the manual (which after going back thru it, it's great)I was playing with it and was blown away!To tell the truth, though I have 'sound forge','acid'and 'band in a box' in my computer,I still record analog thru my Tascam M-35 4 channel mixing board into my Teac 40-4 reel to reel.Sometimes straight into the Tascam but mostly using akg mikes. This is a long way to say I don't know about the editing patches,I play LIVE music.

I've done a lot of experimenting with different amps, effects and guitars.I started my love of music playing folk music at eleven back in 1962,guess that's forty years of playing'(I'm 52).In 1964 the Beatles came out and I worked all summer to save $62.50 for my first 'St George' electric 3-pickup lots of switches 'crap' guitar I eventually traded for, well that,s another story. With that first guitar I had a Kent amp, then a small Vox,until I got a Fender Bandmaster head,I built my own cab' with 2 12's in it.Now every one has a 'home studio', then we had 'garage bands', playing Venture's,Louie-louie or early Brit bands. One thing about that old bandmaster head about once a month it was knocked off the huge cabinet I had made, I just picked it up, once in a while pushed the tubes back in and kept going. That was b/4 1970,From that start I've played thru and owned a Fender showman bass amp,a twin reverb, when Leo left Fender I bought a new 1975 Musicman 65 watt with 4-10's,(I still own).I've had an Accoustic 100 w bass amp, a Custom 100w lead amp,a couple of small Crate and Peavy pratice amps. This isn't counting the PA power amps I've had.Now I'm using a 700w Sunn amp.I may have left out a few but at this time, I have an older Mesa Boogie studio amp A 100w Crate w/2-12's ,my old Musicman(I couldn't give it up) and a Roland keyboard amp.I apologize for being long winded, but I wanted to let you all know I've tried and owned many amps.Since I'm between bands I've been playing solo and have been using my Roland with one 15 speaker that has 3 instument and one vocal channels.A times I go stereo out and add my Crate or Mesa Boogie (at home I always go with 2 )I have many 'stomp' boxes and my pedal board usually, after coming from my cray baby wah I would go ito a 504 Zoom to a compressor, then a flange ,Ibenez tube screamer, sometimes another distortion box(set for different sounds 'cause I'm old and don't want to bend over),finally into and out of a Dan Electro stereo chorus to my amps.I did buy a Line 6 Pod and was impress.Last christmas my buddies at the music store, told me to try the V-amp,I was impressed with the floor model, they brought out the gig bag and And all that was in it-everything you need! Now I use a Dan Electro Dan-o-wah into the V-amp into my Roland, also into that amp I put my Roland workstation keyboard And my mike goes into a DigiTech Vocalist into the amp. For small gigging I'm beyond happy,I guess in the past I tried to sound like other artists,Clapton ,Garcia,Robbie Robertson, lots of others, but for quite a while it's my own sound I've been trying to perfect, which is constantly changing,I am very pleased with what I have now.I set my own settings for some and use the presets. Some I like some I can't handle.I have found a different way of playing my guitars though,My1972 Custom Fender Tele (I bought new in'73)is my main guitar (has a factory fender humbucker in the top position)I,own an american strat,a Squier 'fat strat,a tele with tex-mex hot pu's,a fat strat custom (the last 2 I built myself, though they look like Fenders I've dressed them up and wired them differently than stock.)I also used my Taylor accoustic-elec thru my setup. What I've found is that instead of most of the time running my guitars with full pickup volume (tone always used to seem better wide open)I have alot more control and get a fat tone at lower settings though there isn't much volume loss,I use theV-amp as a preamp and because I go into akeyboard amp, with very little noise it gives me the sound(s) I want.My guitars are much more versital.SOUND IS IN THE EAR OF THE BEHOLDER and I like mine!

Ive owned other Behringer products and have never had to send anything back to get fixed. As far as plastic case,I've had metal cases and the insides 'crapped' out.The foot pedal seems rugged and thats the only part I'll step on. The case I keep next to my vocalist, both have velcro attached to their bottoms that keep them stable and attached safely to a stand I devised for their use and my convience.(the vocalist's holder failed even though it was metal)By the way, the volcalist is in a plastic case also and I paid $400.00 when I got it.I have been depending on it, I do carry a Zoom 505 in my gig bag but haven't had to use it.(I have always believed in backups,2 or 3 guitars, extra amp.Nothing is worse than being without)For the price of around $150.00 compared to the $350.00 I paid for a Line 6 pod,I should have another V-amp.(maybe I'll get the 'new improved one you must be coming out with!)

This will be quick, never needed you yet but judging by this site and reading everyones comments, you didn't just post the good ones. This tells me your honest and can handle feedback. To me that means a company concerned with pleasing your customers aand I appreciate it.Because I've never had problems with Behringer equipment I will rate your company HIGHLY!

I guess I should have read this first. You know my equipment, forty years of playing, folk country, country rock, blues,R&B,AND Rock and Roll.I have been a dead head since I saw these 'crazies'play on a little beach in Marin co Ca,called Muir Beach.I was camping there with my buddies when this caravan of vw busses and old cars and trucks arrived at the beach lead by this colorful schoolbus with the name 'FURTHER'on it.A band setup, they were called Keasey's(Ken) acid test band later known as the Grateful Dead.A few months later in'66 I went to my first Saan Francisco music scene,(I was born in S F raised in San Rafael 1/2 hr drive to the city).I can't remember who was playing but when I walked into the Avalon Ballroom that night and heard athe music and people everywhere making love,(the summer of love wasn't in '67,it was 1966) I said this is want I want to do the rest of my life!I've been doing since then. To finish my review only a few things, since I control all my equipment with a master on and off switch not having one isn't a problem, but it needs one, what would be really neat(maybe I haven't figured it out or read about it in the instructions yet)is a 3rd foot pedal switch for not only going left and right but up and down.(here I get lazy-please e-mail me if I overlooked it) AND people I don't work for this company or any music store,I'm just someone who keeps searching for the 'sound' and I'm very glad to have found the Behringer V-amp.Caaptain Pluto P.S.I would have given a 10 in the ratings but I believe there is no such thing as a 'perfect 10' and there always has to be room for improvement.

This is my 3rd attempt at using an amp modeling unit. The previous experiences were through a Line6 Flextone-Duo, an a Boss GT-6. For ease of use, I give this thing a 10. The Flextone-Duo really didn't have the sound I was looking for (way too "dark" most of the time), and the GT-6 was an awesome effects unit, but the amp models just didn't sound as good as I'd hoped (and yes, I owned that unit for over a year, and fiddled until I was sick of spending more time with the unit, and less time playing) I have tried out the POD untis before, btu the thing that really upset me about them, is that you couldn't see where your dials were according to the preset, so if you made a slight change, sometimes there would be a drop in frequency until you got back to the correct setting. The software seems pretty cool, but it keeps rebooting my system (pretty sure it's my system though, but maybe could be the program...). The manual is pretty good (way easier to get in and cooking than the GT-6 book). I agree with an earlier poster that it would be nice to have a dedicated function button to access the 2nd 16 amp types without having to hold the "TAP" button down, but as guitarists, our fingers should be nimble anyhow! :-) As far as getting a good sound, I sold a Fender Blues DeVille 2x12, and got this and a really nice BBQ! Within one run through of the presets, I found a patch that I have been looking for for years, and I just had to lower the gain 2 clicks. I gove it a 10 for this factor!

Sound Quality : 8
At first, I was a little put off by the sound coming from this unit when hooked directly to my stereo system (Boston Acoustic speakers, good sound!) I was used to hearing my DeVille in action, with far more presence, etc... Then I fiddled around with all the settings, made sure the output was set properly, and it just didn't have the brightness I was hearing from my amp. Well, the more I thought about it, it was supposed to be used for recording, and when I compared the units sound to my CD collection, I'll be damned if it didn't sound just like a recorded guitar amp! It's real purpose!!!! After that, I understood the real differences. If I wanted to hear it's "live" sound, I'd have to remove the speaker cab setting, and run it into the "PWR AMP IN" jack on my Peavey head. Now, the effects are nice, and can be quite mellow (which I like), but I assume that if you want really wild stuff, you'll have a better unit elsewhere. The amp models sound really nice, and you really can hear a lot of different "character" in each amp. Now, there are those that will tell you that their high dollar amp sounds soooo much better, and maybe live it will! But, keep in mind, that the equipment your using is not a direct result of the sound you'll get.... I have been playing cheap gear for years, (as I could never afford dropping a ton of cash on a USA Fender guitar, or a high dollar boutique amp being a family man...)but I can make even the cheesiest of guitars sound great, as it's mainly your playing style and technique. Hell, SRV could probably make you cry with a wash bucket, a mop handle and a string! As far as getting my sound, yes, it has it in there (a higher gain KWS tone, with a nice "cut through" presence to it. THe quality is good, and make no mistake, this unit is mainly for recording, but it would work for live use as well (here's a hint folks...make sure you take a little time to think about how and where to set it up, so you don't have to worry about it hitting the ground.... makes a big difference!)

Reliability : No Opinion
Not sure, but lots of electronic stuff lasts, and lots don't! I assume you can't throw it around, but with reasonable care, it shoudl be fine. It's not a Boss pedal case though!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Can't rate here, as I have never needed them. I've heard good things though!

Overall Rating : 9
Overall, I find that this unit is an extremely good value, and should be a serious competitor to the POD units, ans I find the sound quality much better. I used to work in the pawn business, so I've had a chance to hear and play countless amps, and effects units, and I can tell you that this unit for direct recording really can't be touched by anything in the price range, or even in the 200-300 range. I think the new PODxt will likely have some great stuff, and have a superior sound, but it's $400! In all honesty, this unit can recreate a ton of different sounds, and is well worth the cheap price tag. The only two things I wish it had are an on/off switch, and a 3rd button on the INCLUDED footwswitch for bank cnages. When you first listen to this through your stereo or headphones, don't think "it's not like my live amp", think "how does this sound compoared to my favorite artists "recorded" tone", and you'll realize the true potential of this unit. Good job BehrINGer! :-)

Very good interface , considering the amount of options available in amp modeling and effects choice. Beyond the fact the there is no on/off switch , I don't like having to use the combination of two fingers (of different hands ..-))) to select each amp model from 16 to 32 ..there should be a sort of 'caps lock' working as on pc keyboards.. anyway they did a good job

Sound Quality : 9
Well, I haven't tried the POD 2 or PODxt but I think (rumors around ...)the guys at Line6 should take the v-amp2 as a veeeeery serious competitor...
I use this unit for hard disk recording and practice at home. For rehersals and live shows I use real valve amps (Marshall/Mesa)..
The Sounds .. well distorsions really rock ..if you want guts on your recorded track , this is exactly what you have ..
clean sounds are really ok , I was looking for a crispy fender sound that good go "evil" a la Jeff Healey for recording , this is mainly the reason I bough the unit for . Clean sounds on the v-amp take a little more tweaking to see them shine, either because of the (sometimes annoying) difference of volume and dynamics between modeled clean tones, either because to reach the desired "evilness" you need to cleverly balance , gain ,volume and the drive option ..hey ..just like on real amps ..-)...
Effects are obviously nothing to write home about , but for the price...

Too early to say ..I have it for a month .

I use it as a tone modeler for hard disk recording , this is what the unit was created for . I will never use it live , I don't believe I would get the same good results .
This is my first "virtual" amp and as a valve tone junky I must say I am totally satisfied , considering waht you get for the price ...
A guy on a previous review wrote that when you listen at the sound , especially for drive and distorsion sounds, it seems to be a real valve amp recorded through a good multitrack .. I totally agree . With this kind of attitude you should approach amp modeling ...this is not the real stuff ..but it will absolutely do the job if what you are looking for is a good recording

Extremely easy to use, except for the TAP+Dial combinations which require a lot of dexterity or two hands (which is not good when trying to dial in).

Plus a free software editor. A little buggy, but a nice addition. There seem to be a few more options from the software editor than on the unit itself (add any preamp effect (compressor/autowah) to another other group of effects)

The main reason I wrote this is because of some terrible misinformation provided by another user. He claims that this unit will ruin your live sound, but he loves it for recording. He is 100% wrong, and he has not read the manual.

A. If you are running it through a cabinet live, you can turn off the V-Amps cabinet-modeling feature, hence getting only the sound of your own cabinet. Do not use the pre-amp of your amp - use an auxilliary in.

B. But if you really want flexibilty live, run it through a transparent system like a keyboard amp. Then you get all the cabinent simulations coming out of an uncolored amplification system It will sound just like is does when recorded.

That being said, the unit is awesome in its general tone. You can hear some very slight digitally-generated noise when levels are low and the dials are turned. So, if you are recording a lot of low-level track with solo guitar and lots of distortion, you may not like this unit. For general loud rocking or playing in a band, it rocks.

don't know. Cheap to get two, and easy to synchronize em.

None needed yet. Web site is great though, so I will give a 9.

Amazing value. I play alternative pop and rock. Been playing for years, but I still suck (my main instument is piano). However, I'm pretty good at recording (15 years exp) and if I can get a better sound than all the great guitarists I've played with and recorded in the past, it must be a decent unit.

If it were stolen, I'd buy another and have change left over for a Coke.

Fairly easy to use, but amp selection fiddly as you need to hold own a button to get second set of amp models. Switching between patches could be better.V-Amp has to 'think' for a second before changing patches -not ideal in a 'live' situation.

Sound Quality : 7
Amp and cab models are convincing, and delay type FX are quite good. Flanger/ Chorus not so good and reverb tinny. Also all bass noticeably rolls off when FX are deployed. I'm thinking of changing to something more sophisticated like a KORG AX1500.

This is my 2nd unit. The 1st one went back to the store when all the patches I set up were 'lost'. Since then I've used at gigs regularly and do not take a backup.

Never had to use customer support.

This is a good rock/metal tool, but is flexible enough for all types of music. I use a Vintage VRS100 (the PRS copy), and also an Ibanez GTO tuned to D. These go straight in to the V-Amp. I then split the signal via the LR outputs to to Marshall MG50s, one channel 'dry', the other effected. I use the 2x10 cabinet models every time, and have both amps turned way up, but clean and with neutral EQ settings.

Easy as pie. Editing is good, i don't like midi so i don't know about the software, manual is decent but i only used it once or twice to figure out how to configure it.

My current rig consists of:

BC Rich NJ JR-V 2002 model W/fastback heel
BC Rich Platinum Warlock (late 80's model)
BC Rich KKV (just a beater guitar)
into the V-amp2 into a DOD dual 15 band EQ into the Behringer virtualizer pro DSP2024 into the behringer autocom-pro into a Crown CE1000 power amp being run stereo into a behringer stereo 4x12.
Yes, I really like behringers stuff.

effects are ok, the noise gate is awesome, i like letting go of the guitar and having it be quiet. I try to get my own sounds out of it not my influences sound, not real happy with the reverb, otherthan that its pretty good. i have owned a POD, GT-3, GT-6, GNX1 and so far i keep coming back to this unit.

well heres a trouble spot, the thing got knocked off a low tabel and glitched out, When i plugged it in it wold need a factory reset done, so i thought maybe the memory battery was loose or knocked ajar so i took the back off and there was nothing wrong with it so I put it back together and haven't had a problem with it since. So no i wouldn't gig with out a back p of some sort. But for the price you could grab 2 for the price of the pod alone.

I play metal, it works just fine for what i need. I used it with my band for 6 months and never had a problem with it. I currently use a mesa V-twin live. If i lost it or someone skanked it I would go look at the V-amp rack model coming out soon.

I don't know why anyone would run this unit into the front of thier amp. ITS A MODELER, IT SHOULD BE RUN INTO A CLEAN POWER AMP. NOT THE FRONT OF A GUITAR AMP! Plus you need to change the configuration and play with the eq settings in the configuration mode too. Read the manual for that stuff.

Very easy. Just take it out of the package, tweek a little bit and..bang, great sound.
Very easy to edit patches, but if you really want specific sound with that specific effect, you'll need your computer to work on it. But I only use reverb+delay, so it's easy. Moroever, i have an extra reverb rack to give me really good & deep reverbs.
The manual is OK...who reads manuals? I don't.

Sound Quality : 8
I mainly use it to make demos and i'm VERY happy. I plug my modified Yamaha or my steinberger in the unit, run it to my Behringer mixer, and then to my dman 2044 to my computer.
The high gain settings are noisy, but the noise gate is handy ( though not perfect ). Effect are just OK. I prefer to use other rack effect for good chorus, reverd and so on.

Reliability : 8
I can depend on it, but i'll buy the rack and it'll be on the market.

I had a problem with the battery socket, but i was so happy with the fast reply from the factory that i've already forgot it.

I play Blues, BLues Rock, Rock and Metal and i'm VERY happy with the unit. I'm playing for 20 years, i have Rivera and Marshall and I'M NOT PLUGING MY AMPS FOR A LONG TIME!!! All my family are thanking me on their knees every day.

A little cumbersome to get to all of the amp simulations, have to hold 'shift' every time you want to get to the second bank. Preprogrammed sounds have great 'wow' effect in the store, but once it's home you need to spend time to get the most out of it. The manual is sensible. The EQ isn't very powerful. You've got to be good at subtracting frequencies to pull out the sound you want. Lots of patch abilities are a plus, but the output is still 1/4" - not true studio standard. The layout isn't completely intuitive, but the knob lights do make it easy to mark your positions. Some patches, once altered, could not be altered back to their original form. You'd have to leave it altogether and come back to recapture the original tone. That was wierd and cumbersome.

Sound Quality : 6
It made some nice fun recordings for me but I ended up bypassing it entirely to get the fuller tone I prefer for my recordings. The overall sound quality was clear and tight and crisp. It didn't strike me as a pro tool, but it was a lot of fun as a neat practice toy. The tap was handy for setting delay. The compression didn't add much resonance to your tone. Some patches were convincing in their simulation, many others were not so. Overall, it seemed to have a mind and a sound of its own and didn't pick up much of my instrument's original tone.

Reliability : 7
It's plastic and I wouldn't want to take it to a gig or even a light jam. It should stay inside where it won't get bumped around. The case and pedal seemed nicely constructed and well devised. If this were "my" sound, I'd trade it back and get the Pro model rack VAMP2, because it looks like it will be more road worthy. My unit had no defects or workmanship faults.

Overall Rating : 6
For rock, blues, alternative, fusion, jazz, and original art rock, this multi-effects unit has merit, but it can't do much of it very well for me. It's like the icing on the cake, but I don't eat cake at every meal. I'm sticking to analog equipment for now and looking at individual effects again that are more in synch with my particular needs. I know I'll have to spend four times as much to try and get half of what the VAMP2 had, but I returned it to pool my resources.

Really easy to use, to get the best out of it use the software and edit patches via midi using your pc. No power switch though...odd, remember to put the power lead into the unit before plugging it in or you may mess up your settings.

Sound Quality : 8
Sound quality through headphones is excellant. If you want to get a good sound through an amp, use the v-amp as the preamp. You might notice that the unit is a little noisy this is because the input direct from your guitar is not balanced, if you do not wish to open up the unit and replace some parts then putting a pedal in by-pass mode between your guitar and the vamp should cut down on this problem. For the price it is superb.

Reliability : 10
As long as you remember to plug the power lead in to the Vamp before plugging it in you should have no problems.

Never needed to use it.

Overall Rating : 7
making the unit need balanced inputs was stupid for a guitar unit, it is easily solved by replace the input component though (cost me about #0.60), and replacing some of the internal wiring with shielded cable improves the unit's sound tenfold. That being said you will not get a better sounding unit at this price range. Plastic casing sucks. However if you get the FCB 1010 footboard the unit is improved more, as long as you know how to do basic midi setups. I like the piece of kit, I expect I will get the VAmp pro when it comes out.
