Behringer V-Amp 2

Real easy to get great sounds, this baby is jam packed with great tone and good factory patches you're bound to find your thing pretty quick. From crystal clear to full blown DualRecto and everything in between. If you got the chops this thing's got the sound!

I did need to read the manual - carefully.

The manual is short but it does the job. I can now save patches and control the "cabinet" or speaker sims.

As with all preamps the speaker sims or "cabinet" must be ON if going into a desk or headphones and OFF if going into a guitar amp.

Otherwise if you get this wrong any preamp will sound super buzzy in headphones or a desk or very muffled if going into a guitar amp.

There are hundreds of patches so I needed to use the "Patch List" as a guide to find the sorts of sounds I was looking for.

Overall the unit is easy to use and convenient to program!

I will have to photocopy some tables from the manual, things like the patch list and the cabinet list - I'll never remember cabinet "12" is a 4x12 with V30s ... but that's cool I little "cheat sheet" is easy to make.

The V-Amp2's display only has numbers, no words or letters, a full blown LCD with words and numbers would make it all more useable but that would probably blow the price out the window.

Because its easy to get the sounds I wanted and easy to program (after reading the manual) I'll give it a 9 for ease and convenience of use.

Don't let the low price make you think this thing will sound cheap (like I did for years ... I was just plain wrong). It sounds GREAT.

I'm using an Ibanez John Petrucci 90th anniversary model like this:-

AT HOME: Petrucci guitar => V-Amp2 => Mesa 2:90 power amp => Recto Quad (4x12 with V30s). That rig sounds good.

AT GIGS (always at the same hall)
Guitar => V-Amp2 => Mackie desk => Mackie power amp => Emminence based PA speakers. It also sounds great!

I also have a DualRecto Solo Head, Boogie IIC+, Triaxis and Marshall JMP1 but even in that company the V-Amp2 can stand its ground EASILY. To my ears yes the V-Amp is that good! (Hmmm maybe I'm half deaf?)

So now I don't lug any guitar amps at all, effectively the V-Amp has replacing my Triaxis based rack! (And all the other amps too)

The effects are pretty decent too.

Even the phasor or flanger sound useable (which is a first for me, I've never heard those effects sound good in any digital unit, chorus yes but not them).

I think a good phasor or flanger pedal sounds better but not my much I'll be leaving all my pedals at home now.

Yes, you may have to tweak things a bit especialy to get the right "cabinet" or speaker sim sultation but after that the reward is you get a great sounding, easy to lug, super versatile rig.

If I lost all my gear its the first (and probabl only) thing I'd replace.

Hard plastic but probably shouldn't be dropped on concrete! I reckon it's tough enough.

Can't rate their support, I've never needed it.

I've played all sorts of music over the last 20 years. In that time I've had lots of gear but this is by far and away the best thing I've ever owned!

I still have all the amps listed above, an an RG Stomp and I spent all day in a store with a POD for me the clear winner is the V-Amp2 its just that good!

(Why only 9, well nothing is perfect so nothing would get 10 from me;-)

I git this up and running right out of the box. I use a Line6 POD so this was a snap. I don't use presets very much as I just click it over by hand to the sims I want so I can't comment on patches or switchng delay problems addressed by others. I sent the unit back after 5 days so I didn't get much time with the manual either.

I bought this unit for the clean settings and stereo DSP effects and they sound really good. Using my strat I was able to get good clean jazzy tones and the bell like clarity I was looking for. THe guys I play with are are using direct units(drummer using D_Drums) so the volume problem on these amps is not a problem for me. The louder amp models though were WAY to noisy for me. The POD beats it hands down for harder edged tones. The only problem with the POD is it does not do stereo DSP. Still I was going to run an A/B box until...read on

I received it and it was plastic. The quality of the electronic components, mainly the pots, seemed very poor...and did I mention it was plastic. I would be carful not to pull the cord to hard out of it much less gig it. If you are using this in a controled environment where you can keep it safe..eh it will proly hold up, just don't drop it.

One of the things I liked about this unit from the manufacturers web site is that you can upgrade the program on the chip inside the unit via midi instead of having to replace the chipset when new upgrades/software versions are implemented. Sadly it was plastic.

I play with a group of non-tradition musicians and we try to find new complementing tones, styles and arrangments rather than mainstream stuff and I think this unit would have fit in with the stereo DSP and good clean clear amp models but I wouldn't think of using the heavy models. They are just to noisy and I don't mean loud, I mean the signal is just trashy. I run a Line6 POD and I was just looking to complement it with this but again...you guessed, it was PLASTIC.

As long as you're not too impatient to read the manual, it's a breeze to use, and to experiment with. I definitely had to read the instructions - took me about a half hour and now it's completely intuitive.

I'm not a pro or full-time player at all - I use this as part of a PC driven home studio, where I record for the sheer joy of it. I play an Epiphone Dot 335, an '80's Fender Japanese Strat, and a totally crappy old Yamaha acoustic with a variety of pickups. All run through the V-Amp, then into the computer where I record with Guitar Tracks Pro.

For me, this thing is a Godsend. When I set up my studio, my goals were versatility, quality, and affordability. The V-Amp has all 3. For $100-$140 you could not ask for more. Using the guitars I've got I have been able to get virtually any sound I want out of this little thing.

I have to agree with some who've complained that the clean sounds are a little too quiet, but I make up for this in recording by running it through a mixer before going into the computer, so it's not a problem.

Also, it's definitely geared towards players who like heavier sounds. I play mostly guitar-based power-pop (Teenage Fanclub, Matthew Sweet, Big Star, etc.), and my choices are sometimes limited. But the Vox models, Tweed Combo, and Black Twin offer me nearly all I need.

Also, I love the Aux Input - I can run my cd player right through it, and exactly match my favorite guitar players' sounds.

Yes there is a delay when you switch presets. Not a problem if you're using it at home, like me. I can't imagine trying to use it live. (By the way, there's no delay as long as you're using the same amp/cab setup.)

I think you'd be crazy to use it live. And I've heard that it's pretty easy to lose presets, but so far, so good.

Haven't had to deal with them directly, yet. But the website is very informative, and there are several on-line boards where you can get answers to almost any question from users.

If you're a pro, or you expect perfection out of the V-Amp, you're going to be disappointed. But for someone who is using it as a part of a home hobby, like me, this is the perfect solution. I would recommend it without hesitation.

My only complaint - and this is a small one - is that this thing is designed really poorly. What's up with that psuedo-Tele shape? You end up with cords sticking out of 3 of the 4 sides of it, which is a mess. Hopefully in future models Behringer will give it a simpler, more efficient design.

The manual didn't explain much. I got good sounds from trial and error.

I have a jackson rhodes, randall 100 watt head, marshall cabinets. The f x aren't bad. I don't think the metal-heads out there ever found the drive button that doubles the distortion ratings, read the manual! I love the modern marshall and rectifier sounds. You can also get custom sounds like a 15 watt combo thru a 4x12 cabinet, or a 100 watt boogie thru a 1x8 combo.

It's plastic so I would worry about droping it, but so are digitech's, zoom's and a bunch or other cheap petals. That must be how they keep the cost so low.

I've play hard rock, heavy metal, blues for 20 years and I would get another one if I had to. It's easy and quick to use.

the v-amp isn't difficult to use (when it's 100% okay)

i used (!!) it with an emg81-equipped jackson dx into a hughes&kettner edition silver (line in).
clean sound:
the clean sound output is not loud enough,but,with a little bit chorus and a nice model(v-amp clean,r-jazz chorus) it sounds very good!
distorted:
it's easy to get a very good marshall jcm800 sound,but,and now my biggest problem with this unit--->high gain sounds.
they sound good first,okay,but the sound is simply not direct and tight!!i tried to solve this problem by shutting the cab-simulation off....but it wasn't much better!sounds not tight....very uncool!!!!uncool,too-->when you switch patches you hear a loud KLICK and the switching is delayed...SHIT....

a half year after buying it,the electronic was broken!no idea why!!!i'm german,so support was okay,but i also know,that behringer products (although german ones) aren't built like tanks!!

This is one of the easiest effects unit I've ever programmed due to liberal use of unique digital knobs. This is a knob with a digital LED that shows it's current position. This is awesum when used with MIDI becuase you can see the value without the knob actually moving. Sometimes it's a bit confusing knowing what paramater data you may be adjusting so visits to the manual are frequent to figure out what the 2nd function is when combining effects. Some settings are only available through MIDI or the free patch editing tool. Getting this running is highly recommended.

Sound is pretty good. The nice thing is you can set your overall tone for all effects and also at the individual effects tone. AMP simulations are great. Chrous and flange could use more depth. Reverb can't be beat. Delay is ok. Alittle more movement in stereo would be nice. No Stomp box so you are stuck with AMP distortions. Forget crunch, it's weak. Noise gate and compression is middle of the road. Pretty low SN ratio.

Ahhhh, This is where I vent. I use this for in home studio only. Anyone taking this to a gig is absolutely NUTS. I have lost my patches on many occasions. This unit allows many connections and is very light so it will travel if not bolted down. When it does your power chord will pop out and in my experience you WILL lose your patches. Also if you have a MIDI loop it will scrable your units memory and really f up your patches. I have reset and redownloaded via midi my patches more times then I can count. Every time it happens I can't help to think who's the poor son of a bitch who took this thing to a gig and lost all his patches. That would suck so DON'T do it. This should not go on the road under any circumstances. A note to behringer,,, Please put a power switch on this thing!

It took me forever to figure out how to get ahold of US support. Once I did the guy (and I think it's just one guy) was very helpful getting me a new rom to correct a problem where my reverb would spaz. That problem is fixed but I still lose patches regularly even with a fresh lithium battery. I'd give a 10 if their web site made it easier to find US support.

To reiterate this is a lot of machine for the money. The MIDI implementation is unbelievable for the cash. Effects are dam good considering price paid. This is frail unit that I would never let leave the basement.

After only using this for a few days, it has been relatively easy to get the sounds I want. I haven't really tried the deep editing, but this unit is obviously built for the technological illiterate.

I use an Epiphone G-400 (black) and a Washburn Lyon Series Strat (candy apple red) through both the V-amp 2 and a Line 6 Spider 212. I use the Berhinger FCB1010 to do my switching between amps. The V-Amp, depending on where I'm playing, either runs through a Roland JC-120 or the pa system. Either way, it sounds incredible. THe only noise I get is from my strat on the single coil settings at a really high gain when standing too close to the amp, but what amp doesn't do that. THe effects are OKAY on just the v-amp, but with the footpedal, control of the effects makes them that much better. Perfect for what I do (Christian Praise, Rock, Emo, Emocore) .

So far it holds up well. I accidently dropped it, but it still works great. I gig with it and the spider so I could do without the other for one show. But I like having the other to fall back on.

Haven't had to deal with Behringer, but Ive heard some nasty things. One piece of advice, don't e-mail them. Call. If it means anything, always call.

LIke I said, I play a lot of emo, emocore, christian stuff, and some jazzy stuff with some friends as well. I cover a wide range, and this thing is great for it all. I've used all manner of crap, and although I don't believe digital can match analog right now, it's freaky to think what digital technologies will sound like in 10 years.

Most of the presets sound good, if a bit trebly. It's not too hard to dial that out, thoguh. The manual is pretty informative, though it covers a few V-Amp models, so can be a bit tricky to navigate.

There are some things this thing does well, and others not so well. For $140, do you really think it will create 100% realistic emulations of Vox, Matchless, Fender, Marshall, and Solando amps? If you want matchless or Solando, drop $3K on one of those. This does the job for perhaps a project studio or some live stuff.

The battery died on me, and I lost all of my presets. It wouldn't hurt to either know some of your favorite presets by heart, or have them backed up on a computer. It wasn't too hard to replace the battery, though the time between its purchase and failure concerns me. I don't use a lot of FX, and I also have a good tube amp and a Jekyll and Hyde distortion, so I've got a backup.

I emailed Behringer about this problem, and they wrote back giving me some suggestions and sending me a new EPROM chip just in case. Their responses were quick and generous.

If you need something for more live applications, consider one of the Digitech RP lines. Otherwise, give the V amp a try. For the money, you can't go wrong.

It has 32 Amp models and 15 Cab models, MIDI in and out, Aux in with Volume control, a footswitch connector and NO power switch.

Basically this device is easy to use, it doesn't take a genius to figure out how they made this Pie. The Manual isn't great though,
a lot of the things I discovered weren't clear on the Manual.
A good example would be the Global 3 band EQ issue which I read about it on the V-amp forums. Basically the first time I ran into using that EQ was on the configuration Tab on the editing software, Then I noticed that when I change the configuration from S1 to L1,
I see the EQ leds on the V-amp, the rest, you know, kinda obvious.

Quick editing of patches is easy using the device itself, the computer software is really important on that aspect as it helps defining more is specific the parameters.

About the firmware issue, My device's firmware is 2.0.68 . I know the latest one is 2.1.1 but that doesn't really bother me.
I'm not a pro guitarist nor I want to be, I just enjoy my playing and it serves me as a musician.

I use a mixing console and Studio Monitors to hear the V-amp, I have no guitar Amp.

I have a Jackson Pro guitar, Japanese made, beautiful white color,
S S H configured, Reflex Active Pickups, basically the guitar sounds great by itself.

A lot of users complain about white noise and stuff like that.
I certainly didn't notice any, definitely not from the V-amp's outputs. I'm kinda Audio Freak, a musician too, I have a home studio, Which is why I checked that noise issue.

Okay, sound quality...

The first time I had a chance to see or hear it, was when a session guitarist brought it to a recording session at the studio which I am working right now as an engineer.

When I opened it up at home and started messing around it,
I discovered its true potential.
I have nothing but good things to say about its sound quality.

I was simply amazed by it. It has many Amp models, many are useful and vice versa, just like any other gear,
the same is said about the Cabinet models.

The onboard multi effect is excellent, I can't find another word to describe it, the Reverbs have beautiful clearence, Very defined, and they shape nicely the sound, without distorting the Source signal.
The same goes for the Delay and Chorus effects,
too bad the Compressor doesn't have more Parameters
such as Threshold and Make up gain.
It's useful though, it has Ratio and Attack parameters, Noise gate is welcome again, lack of parameters to it, I don't always use it, not on Lead sounds.

A lot of folks argue about whether it's better than the Line 6 POD or not, as a matter of taste my conclusion after comparing the two units one near the other is that the Behringer definitely defeats the POD as far as goes for sound quality, although the sample rate is 32 Khz.

The Amp models are a lot more authentic sounding than the POD.
The POD has something dead in its sound, it isn't open, and the Cab models just don't sound good to me, again, a matter of taste.

I definitely get my favourite sounds, especially for a Metal distortion, or Satriani type lead sound, or a bright clean, very versitle device, basically my favorite sound is my own sound.

I can't really answer that question, I don't plan to gig with it.

However, its plastic case kinda makes me a little worried and I do open up 10 eyes on it to make sure it's intact.

Hoe reliable is it? How reliable are their products?
Answer that question and I guess you know the rest...

I only Emailed once to ask about the Firmware update and I got replied within a day, and their reply was straight and clear.

My style of playing is very not single layered, I play many styles,
From Metal to even Pop stuff, I also play drums and keyboards, I'm new to the guitar playing world which is why I didn't buy an Amp, too expensive.

I didn't expect this unit to sound like THE real thing, I know its abilities and its lack of abilities.

I've been dealing in the music world for about 12 years and I do many things today, that is Sound engineering, drumming, arrangments and productions.

I have Behringer Truth monitors, great speakers by the way, Eurorack 2004A which is very simple but straight forward, sound quality is okay.

I like its sound and the easy way of using it, its features.

Why on earth it has no Power Switch!?

it's a very useful tool for home and studio recording and live gigging, although it has an annoying delay when switching Patches.

The basic package that you get when buying one is more than Welcome, A carrying bag and a footswitch as well as the Power Cord.

I recommend this product to anyone who wants nice Amp sounds and has no budget for a good and solid Amp, it's not the best Emulator but it's definitely a worth buying product, and a good replacement.

It is fairly simple to use. The diodes are a clever idea for indicating settings that are recalled from memory. I wish my other gear had that. As most others have said, it does need an on/off switch. Given the many controls on the unit, this would have been a cheap thing to have included.

Although I've not use other similar gear like the Pod, I'm very impressed with the sounds from this unit. For the money, this is a must-have, in my opinion. I originally bought this for my keyboard gear, but bought a guitar afterwards, which I use with it regularly.

I'm not sure how it would do on the road. I don't plan to travel with it.

A wonderful box, and an amazing bargain. Lots of bang (and crunch and other FX) for the buck. I'd get another if stolen.

It's rather intuitive. Just tweak the knobs some time and that's it. Editing patches might be easier by computer software, but since I don't own a midi cable I have no experience of it. Editing patches in the device itself is easy, but sometimes it feels that an extra hand would come in handy. Manual is OK, although I did not read it much before use. Explanations for the amp models are good. Footswitch is nice but I don't use it much.

I have a german Gibson SG copy and little Vox Pathfinder 15W. But i don't use V-amp2 in the Vox, instead I put it straightly through PC to my great speakers. Yes, it is noisy on high-gain simulations, but the others I did not find noisy. Effects are good I think except auto wah and rotary. Ph+delay & fl+delay are excellent I think, and reverb is very good as a stand-alone effect, as one can say. I got sounds of Metallica, The Shadows and Slade to count a few. Distortions are great, but clean sounds are quite silent, always I have to increase volume to hear them properly. I like all other amp sims except Calif. drive/clean. Cab sims I usually let be wherever they are always, but in high gain sims I usually change them. Once I got a kinda nasty distortion by this way. I give it 9 because the silent clean sounds and odd wah.

It is plastic so it is hard to say. If you handle it carefully it'll last long, otherwise it won't last long. I would take a risk and gig w/out backup, but it might be better idea to use it for recording.

Never dealt with them

I play along various bands; Iron Maiden, Metallica, Shadows, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Slade, Nazareth, Pink Floyd, that kind of music. Played for over three years. I own Schaller Wha-Wha/Fuzz, Century Distortion & my self-built "Tube-Breaker" pedal. It it's stolen or lost, I'll surely buy a new one. I like amp sims, and the big number of presets, plus most of the effects and the cab sims, but the wah and rotary are not as good features. I compared this to POD but I choosed this one for as simple reason as money. But POD didn't owe LED indicators(I think it didn't...). I tested this in one music store and wanted my own at once. I wish it had more balls in clean sounds and more balls in wah/rotary. I've recorded some cover songs with this and I found some nice sounds for bass guitar also. If you are a beginning guitarist(like me), a "guitarist who's finding his sound", this device is worth checking out.

Some really good patches straight from the box and a fair few duffers. Editing is simple and the manual is easy to follow. It also includes some good hints for the individual amp models.

I'm using this with a Telecaster and a Kramer Baretta. I use it for all situations, live, recording and headphone practice. Live, I run it through the PA and sometimes through my Marshall combo. It sounds great both ways. All the effects come across really well. I play lots of different styles so need a wide selection of patches from Jazz to Metal. The unit really excels at the distorted sounds.

PLastic construction so I wouldn't want to drop it. I have mine velcro'd to the top of my amp so there's no fear of that. THe footswitch is sturdy though.

For the price, it can't be beat. I tried the Pod XT along side it and couldn't justify the extra #200 or so. I've been playing guitar for about 12 years now and owned loads of different units. I love this unit. some people bemone the fact that it doesn't sound "exactly" like a real tube amp, and it doesn't, but it's damn close, doesn't cost an arm and a leg and doesn't have any tubes that blow up!!!

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to use this equipment, but it is a little difficult to know how to get access to certain features and FX. And even after u do figure it out, because it requires multiple combination of button pushes, u forget how to unless u do it often. Im sure, it's about as difficult to use as POD or GNX FX cuz they put so much into a lil box with limited space for buttons.

The sound quality is where this thing shines for the money. I was totally surprised at the tone that this thing generates compared to the Line6 Guitar Port and my friends Flextone II amp. Im sure POD sounds similar to the Flextone II since it's essentially the same engine. POD has a flat 2D tone with not much character while this thing actually sounds full with depth of a tube sound. It's no tube but it's damn good quality and it has very little synth like quality if any to it. The clean tone can sound very tight and rounded and have body where the distortion can get thick and rich enough for some metal. I haven't tried to create death metal or thrashy metal but everything else it can do pretty damn good. You can dial in virtually any tone with this thing and have it sound very real and not synthetic. The FX r good but not great, but good enough and better then Line 6 Guitarport. The FX r probably on par with Genesis 3.

This is where the item falls a little short. It's all plastic case so it feels a lil fragile. I was shipped the latest eprom 2.1.1 and it's gone flaky so they r sending a new one. Besides that, everything still seems to be working and i've had it for about 6 months. I don't like the lack of power button on this thing and it worries me that turning on the unit with the power strip could send a jolt. How stupid is that they have all these features but no power button. The footswitch feels solid. I broke the reverb knob when i accidently dropped it from not so far distance so i super glued it back on and it's ok.

I been able to get a person on the phone and with reasonable response when i had to.

I play blues, rock, metal, folk, pop, jazz and this unit has enough tones to satisfy all those needs. I would buy this thing again if it got stolen i think because it's so cheap and u get so much. But i also do have a Genesis 3 and that is also pretty damn good unit. For the money, u can't beat this thing. I think it has the most natural tone of all Multi FX boxes i've tried. I have Line 6 guitarport, i've tried the Flextone II (POD), have Genesis 3, and tried Boss GT-6.

Very simple to operate. However, the manual can tell you little nice "secrets" to tweak. Go on. Read the manual first, so you can get better results.

I have a hybrid Laney amp and some active and passive guitars. I tested all guitars with the V-Amp, and the result was good as a pre-amp for my laney.

However, I tried the V-Amp direct in a cheap hifi and.... I couldn't believe !!!! It was the BETTER sound that I heard in my room !!! I've tried other equipments, like GT-6, Zoom pedalboards and ampsim, boss pedals etc. Today, I think V-Amp is on the top, based on its sound quality. In the same level, i put the GT-6.

The fender sims are the best. Very beautiful. If you mix a little bit of compressor (very nice !!!!), you reach the SRV tone. Easy !

The marshall sims are good, like Boss/Roland sims. Very powerful and precise. In my opinion, the best marshall sim comes from Sansamp products. All the harmonics are there.

Mesa Boogie sims are regular. Sure, POD is better. But other hi-gain sims, like soldano, this V-Amp ROCKS THE PLACE !!!!

It can be used only as effects unit. Very nice ! All the effects are good (except the rotary), and the tap funcion is fantasic.

You have to tweak a little to reach the better output configuration for your purposes. Remember its like an amp. So, try to connect it directly in a hifi, PA, mixer etc. Its when this unit really shines.

More fraggile than most pedalboards.... but the footswitch is very resistent.

Useful for all kind of music. Works fine together with other pedals. Make all guitar sound special. Believe me.

Features listed below. Ease of use is as good as any of these kind of units. I particularly like the fact that the settings are displayed with LEDs - nice and clear. Editing is a breeze, and manual covers anything you're not certain about, although I had this up and running well before I unpacked the booklet.

I'm using this mainly for recording and practicing through head phones. I'm amazed at the sound quality. I had a POD II which sounded pants through headphones, but this really fills some space. Let me make it clear that whilst I love valve amps, I'm no expert. I can't really comment on simulation accuracy, but it sounds like an amp, not a digital processor and that's the main thing. If you're after great tones, just fiddle with the dials. The effects section is pretty great, very intuitive also. Nice to have so many reverbs, although I don't know if I'll need them all. I like the way all the amps seem to sound good with any amount of gain, not just maxed out or clean.

I play blues, soul, classic rock. This is the first modelling amp I've found that covers those as well asthe really heavy stuff that we all like to jam through late at night. If it were stolen I'd gt another. It's great just to have a range of useable sounds available. I usually record dry, then put the signal through the V-amp, so I can hear my solo on any one of 32 different amps!

Not too bad if your used to pods and such.
The usual, hold down one or two buttons and enter your changes.

I run a Gibson LP Classic w/57 HBs, and a 72 tele custom.
Any guitar should sound nice through this unit, it has a slew of modern and vintage amp sims. The effects for the most part are good, the rotary however sucks. I run this through a crate VC 3 10s, 50 watt tube amp from the clean channel. Sounds really nice. i like the fact that it has a separate "Drive" function that allows you too get more or less overdrive from the simulated amp than just the gain knob.
I have owned numerous amps and this thing does a good job of emulating them. My only real complaints are 1. could use a power switch. and 2. very noisy when near a computer monitor. other than that, for the money you can't go wrong.I choose this over the line six because I noticed very little differnce other than a little less dynamics on some of the effects. I use it primarily as a preamp, and still run my 66 fuzz face, ts 808, and cry baby wah with it. I like the Marshall sounds as well as the blackface. I feel the twin sim on this is as close to the real thing as any I have heard, I ran a twin for 11 years, and know the sound well. The modern gain settin nails the Boogies. The pre sets for artis such as Santana, EVH, etc. are good. Some tweaking is required, but out of the box it is excellent.
I rated it an 8 only because of the rotary. It has an excellent echo effect.

Not really sure yet, light, plastic, would not leave it on top of a tube amp such as this crate for fear of vibration. I would'nt want to drop it. Kepp it away from fumbling hands. I do gig with it, but I can still get by if it shits the bed with my other pedals and amp.
Although I would miss it greatly as I rely on the Marshall and Fender sims for the cover tunes that I play.

Get one if you play cover tunes, or just like to noodle around, you wont be dissapointed.

The V-Amp2 is really simple to use.If you have had some experience with other prgrammable FX processors,you should be able to get around inside the V-Amp2,no problems.The manual is good and you should read it,no degree necessary.

The sound quality is the real surprise.Using it on Lapsteels,Strats,electric mandolins,Les Paul type guitars i have had very good results live.But the big test was when i took it in to one of Melbourne,s best recording studios to lay down some guide tracks on my old Supro lap steel.I was waiting for the call from the control room as to some noise or a crap sound,but i got the compliment "great sound,wish everyone was that quick!"I bought a V-Amp2 to get a few reasonable amp sounds,not to try and compensate for poor gear or ability.The compessor,gate and reverb are of good quality but the tuner lets down the team.I could have bought a POD at 5 times the price but why?I am not likely to use 75% of whats in the POD anyway.I just want to play music,not split the ATOM!

Build quality is reasonable,i would expect a few problems with the plugs/ jacks down the track.Dont throw it around and i dont think you will have many,if any problems.

I would have to give it a 9 out of 10,considering its cost and sound quality.

easy as 1 2 3. every knob does something. i only had to read the manual once to figure out how to access the different cabinets and reverbs.

excellent. you can get anything you want out of this box except for some raw feedback. lots of different amps and cabs, its perfect and easy to use. lots of useful effects too.

its just a pre-amp for recordings. you dont play live with it. i wouldnt. its made of cheap plastic it seems so i treat it nice. it comes in a padded bag though.. so far so good

I use this with my Les Paul Studio. This is primarily a practice unit for me, as I own a moderately sized studio and for real work, obviously, miking a real stack in a room is going to sound the best. But also obviously, this is rarely practical for when you want to just jam or make a demo or practice. This is where the modellers come in for me. I compared the V-Amp 2 with the Pod, Pod XT, and the Johnson. This thing definitely blows them all away. And unlike those, the hi-gain sounds actually sound right. This is really a wonderful unit and hats off to the quality German engineering. This thing is a great value. And for those thinking of using it for recording, really I think you could get away with it. Next to actually miking up the older amps, this is probably the next best thing.

Reliable enough. I haven't gigged with it or anything, I have my own setup for that, but I use it in the studio and at home all the time for jamming and coming up with stuff. So much more convenient than cranking up a real amp. Just run it into your monitors or stereo.

I play some unique styles, but mostly progressive rock, concept rock, and some fusion and psychedelic rock. I use a lot of sounds when coming up with ideas. This unit offers some great sounds that are usable, and it's very convenient and easy to use. I recommend it if you're in the market for this sort of device and are considering it among the others like the Pod and Johnson. This one's the one. Cheaper than pod too!

Didn't seem that difficult... need to read over the manual to figure some stuff out, but it's certainly easy to get the sounds your looking for... Kind of annoying that you have to use a computer to do some of the deep editing... But when you do use the computer, it's really easy to work with.

I have to say that I really enjoy this little thing. Strangely, I find it works best with crappy amps... My friend has an old solid state rack-mount power amp that he runs into a no-name, generally "tubby" sounding 4x12 cabinet. By putting the V-amp infront of that and playing with that 3 band EQ that the live mode gives you access to, it makes that amp sound better than my all tube marshall... go figure... I bought it mainly for working through a P.A though (a lot lighter than carrying an amp around), and I'm really impressed by that... For recording, it gives me the best sounds I've ever had (and I've been playing with recorded guitar sounds for quite some time).

I find that different amps sounds better with different guitars. I have a Gibson Les Paul Studio, and an American Standard Strat with Semour Duncan Alnico II pickups. The strat sounds great through a lot of the vintage kinds of amps like the AC-30's, fender's, vintage marshalls. I even like it through some of the high-gain models. The Les paul, however, really drives it more in the high-gain stuff. I particularly like the California Clean with my Les Paul. With my strat it sounded dumb, with the Les Paul, it was amazing... on the other hand, the AC-30's sounded dark and muddy with the Les Paul, where as the strat sounded amazing with them... But you find those kinds of things with real amps too.

Certainly not as good as the real things, but definatly useable, and it gives you way more variety than the real things ever would.

Well, I have no choice but to go without a backup, so yeah, I figure I can depend on it. The footswitch seems pretty rugged, and I like the padded bag that it came with (beats tossing stuff aimlessly into a back pack)

I play jazz, rock (new and old), latin, metal, blues, country, pop, R&B, classical and basically anything that involves guitars. I'd already had a great rock setup before getting the V-Amp (Les Paul through a Marshall, can't complain about that), but it simply wasn't versatile enough. And I personally don't even like that "strat through a Marshall" sound. I was seriously considering investing in another amp or two, but instead I've now eliminated the need to take an amp altogether. If it was stolen, I'd have get another modeller. I've been spoiled now, so why go back? Might pick up something like a vox valvetronix amp though... I love those things, just couldn't justify the money. For the price, I think this is pretty hard to beat.

i think you have to try long till you got it really. i've bought my v amp one and a half week ago and i can't get real got sound out of it.

i put it to my hifi and i think its a very good sound. but if i want to choose my bridge humbucker i get a really bad high note (not played. the whole time)

i don't get it to produce a good nirvana sound and also die arzte (german group) is not really easy to program

i need a bigger midi board. because you can't choose the presets with the one in the pack

Editing patches without the manual or pc software would be difficult, as you'd need to know the button combonations to press to make changes. Amazingly, there was no english manual included with my v-amp2. It was easy enough to get a pdf version from their website, and, once I looked at it, editing became rather easy.

I am so amused by all of the responses I read for products here. If you asked me, I don't see how this helps anyone, in anyway, to make a purchase decision! For the most part, there is no unbiased assessments of products here. It's all very silly. Ok, now I'll attempt to give an unbiased opinion on this device...

This device is very good for the money. I got it for less than 100.00 new.

I basically bought it to practice through headphones, and a bit of pc recording.

For those purposes, it's just what I expected. Why on earth would anyone plug this through a nice tube amp? For crying out loud! You're already getting good tone! Sheesh!

The effects:
Alright, let's get something straight here: autowah is a totally useless effect, and always will be! It shouldn't be included with ANY multi-fx, and yet it always is...The other effects are ok. Not premium. Again, what do you expect for the price? A miracle?

I don't understand how anyone could not get a good sound out of this, or any other unit, for that matter. I can pretty much dial in anything on here, and play to the tone that's there. Of course, I can also edit to personal taste, for something that I want to hear.

It's plastic. How dependable could it be? Drop yours and find out. I'll just take care of mine, thank you very much. Like anything, if you treat it well, it's going to last.

Yes, I'd use it without a backup. Because I'm CAREFUL with my stuff! If you're not, well then, bring a backup. It's not brain surgery!

I play any style of music. I can use this for any style I choose to. I've been playing for about 26 years, not that that matters to you, or anyone reading this. I've got a Zoom 9150, a GT-5, Peavey amps, several guitars, and a bunch of other assorted things.

If it were stolen or lost, I would buy another, because it's great for the money. I like all of the features - I really like the knobs for editing sounds. It would be nice to have an on-off switch, but that's really no big deal.

I didn't bother comparing it to any other comparable product, because it was cheaper, and I can dial in good tones from it. Why pay more for the same features? If you want to spend more, go for it.

Look, make up your own mind. Here's some food for thought, though:
Buy something else, pay more money, pay less money, whatever. You're not going to get a totally authentic tube sound from ANY modeler - ever! If you're concerned about labels, buy the POD. If you want to save money, buy whatever is cheap. It's not that complicated.

Easy to use, not so easy to get a good sound. Editing is very easy, saving is easy, no problem here. Lots of features, most notably the live/studio options, where you can have one chanell with sp sim, the other without, they are really well thought. But there is a delay when changing patches, wich for me is unacceptable.

I use it with a Yamaha Pacifica 311 Tele copy (very nice cheap guitar). I must state from the beggining that I am a live sound and studio engineer. I know what sounds good and what doesn't. I know how to use an EQ do fix a sound.
This unit sounds ok, but after a while you notice that all the sounds have some very annoing upper mids frequency content. I also noticed that the only speaker sim that sounded OK was the 2x12 vamp. All the others weren't usable at all for me. You can get a few different nice sounds, that would sound good on a demo record, but not good enough for a serious studio session. The Marshall jcm800 sounds OK, I repeat, not good enough for studio work.
The effects are ok, except the reverb wich is probably the worst type I heard in a multifx unit. The phaser, tremolo, autowah are really good.
This unit has a 32k sampling rate, wich for me just isn't enough. I guess that's why everything sounds a bit muffeld and with 4-5KHz ringing.
I am not a modeller hater, actually I recently bought Yamaha's DG Stomp. It does not have 32 amps, and the speaker sims are not that variate, but there is a HUGE difference soundwise. Now that are studio quality guitar sounds.
I consider my DG Stomp to earn a 9, and this thing in comparition would make 7 at best.

I don't know about reliability. But I know that I wouldn't use it live because of the patch change delay. Absolutely useless for me. Considering the features regarding live/studio use, it would've been worth it for Behringer to improve on that problem.

I wouldn't buy it again, actually I am trying to sell it. It's ok for a toy, or for someone recording guitar demos. If I had this unit 5 years ago, I would've LOVED it. Now, since I am more critical to my sound and I need something really professional, I just don't find it usefull at all. I also own a Tech 21 Trademark 60 amp, with decent direct recording capabilities, a Korg Ax1000g, wich has superb effects and nice direct sound, and now the Yamaha DG STomp, wich for now fulfills olmost every need for live or studio work.

The knobs are all in the right place.. After reading the manual, there was no problem whatsoever using the unit.

Kramer guitar with a quad rail humbucker in the bridge position -> preamp overdrive -> V-Amp2 -> computer.

I play mostly METAL and ROCK, so I'm gonna review this unit based on that.

I think it has some OK sounds, nothing very good. The Amp models I find useful are the brit high gain and the modern high gain. Some good cabinet models are # 2, 7, 12, 15 IMO. The others sound way too muffled or too grainy.

Now.. to the cons:
I can't understand why so many ppl actually LIKE the sound of the Rectifier models!! The sound is very painful to listen to at loud volumes, it's very ugly. It doesn't matter how much I tweak, It still sounds like shit. And the bass!!! AAAAHh!!! It's horrible! it's way too loose. Have you ever listened to Meshuggah for example? on their older songs they are using dual rectifier, and just listen to that nice smooth TIGHT high gain sound (not to forget the nice smooth "fizz" that doesn't exist on the V-Amp2)!! It's not to be found on the V-Amp2.
The V-Amp is also very noisy, even at lower gain settings on ALL amp models. The noise gate helps, but the noise shines through if you start playing softly. I'd like it to be less noisy, so that you can actually play softly without hearing the buzzing sound.
The effects are halv decent. The reverb sucks big time.

pros:
I've managed to get nice rock sounds and some metal sounds with the modern high gain model and the brit high gain model.
It does all sounds that aren't 'metal' decently.

This unit is built like a paper bag. The thin plastic feels like it would fall apart any second. However, if you treat it very gently, I think it would last for some time.

I play mostly metal, and this unit is not very good for that style. The rectifier model, which in reality, is a very good amp for metal, SUCKS on the V-Amp2. So if you're into metal and want to buy this type of unit, get a J-Station or a Digitech Genesis1 or Genesis 3. *NOT* a V-Amp2. Not a POD for that matter. Maybe the POD XT, but NOT the V-Amp2 or POD2.

The company behind the J-station (johnson) is actually the same company behind the Genesis family (Digitech). No wonder ppl think they sound the same!

In the near future I'm going to buy a digitech genesis 1 just because it has such a good dual rectifier sound. I'll save the V-Amp2 because it does the other sounds decently.

At first it was lil confusing but if u are familiar with multi effects, its not hard at all!

mmm,32 amp models, a few sounds like crap to me but the hi gain amp distortion n classic clean are worth for the price!the noise gate is not really effective as i'm now facing problem as having undesirable nasal hiss after each note. The clean sounds really did a good job, 90%. The distortion sounds impressive however lost some good feedback tone that guitarists love to play with. Effects are kinda weak especially the auto wah, 'U call that a wah??? Behringer?' hahahaha!but frens, it is a very good toy to play with, its worthy! compared to POD2,sound quality comes very close,I say:why pay more for POD2??hahah. if it has a higher price, i would rate it 7.

At first i was planning to get that KORG AX1500G due to easy to carry and flexibility. But just wondering why not try out something that new and fresh as i've been using several multi effects units.
Overall it sounded so Fxxxxxg good and satisfying, I can say is worth worth worth. For perfect sound? get the real amp frens!...hahaha

This thing is fairly easy to use, buit then again I am not new to these type of things. I guess if you have never done anything with effects you might take a while to figure it out.

This is why I wanted to do a review on this product. This thing is a beginner level effect. That said I have used it to record direct, and it just doesn't cut it. It can not compare to higher end stuff (POD, BOSS, Roland). The people who like this thing must have not compared it to these. Granted it is a lot less expensive, but once again it is BEGINER STUFF.
It might be great for the kids who are playing in the garage, and just want some heavey sound.

I have also used it through a Marshall JCM stack, Fender super, Roland JC-120, and a Peavey 5150 stack. I didn't think it was possible to hurt the sound of these amps, but this thing sux.
The only way I could get a decent sound was to run into the JC-120, but that still did not produce good sound.
Save your money, and get something good, I would recoment the Boss GT-6 or ME-50, The POd is not bad, but once again if you get the rack mount pod pro you'll do yourslf a favor.
As for the effects on this, once again this is a toy.

I have been in recording for about 28 years as a studio musician. I have played all kinds of music from jazz, country, rock, even jingles. I have been playing for about 35 years. Lost or stolen? I was given this thing to check out by a friend, who wanted to see what would be a good setup for it. I gave it back and gave him an old digitech. I don't use the Digitech any more as there is better stuff out there now, but even at late 70's the board I gave him is better.
Kids, this is for you. Have fun with it, but when you grow up get some real gear.

i got it last night. i also own a vetta HD...and this thing for what they put into it, and what i put into it. its a great investment for practice and easy home recording!editing patches is a sinch, manual is very dumbed down and layed out well. havent upgraded, granted.

i used my schecter, it sounds good...not quite the feedback that i can get from the vetta. but/ hey its really great! i went through the 125 preset list, marking which ones i'll change and which ones i'll keep. mainly the hi-gain amps dont really sound 100% like their masters, although the cabinets do a great job of clearing or muffling! definietly great effects. need some distortions tho! whasup with that? lol umm...overall sound is going to be excellent for recording and stuff!!!!!1

only one day, footswitch seems to be very sturdy. plastic will need to be set aside when fumbling friends come by!

i play all different styles, from metal to soft acoustic! i have my main amp (vetta) for shows and most recording and then this amazing tabletop modeller for practice and some recording. i've been playing for about 4 years, me and the band i'm in play a ton. its just a three piece but we try to rock out as much as we can. i compare this to my vetta...so i cant say its better than it, but it does have great qualities that vetta doesnt offer..yet.
yeah if you/re looking for a great sounding modeller for cheap. and great thrills, get this Vamp. i can already tell its gonna be a great addition to my collection.

Editing patches is something I really love working at and compared to Zoom's 'all-in-one' effects Behringer has gone way beoynd Zoom when talking 'bout user-friendly interface. Everything can be accessed rightaway.

I'm using Vamp for my little homestudio through PA. I have nothing to complain here, this is one of the most incredible sounding systems I'v used. Only lack would be with distortion, for my blackmetal-friends didn't find any preset sharp enough... well, as for thinking afterwards, they didn't notice 'drive' button, which guarantees some pre-effect extra gain. One can probably get way better sounds when building hardware-setup from different components, but for 150? Behringer does quite well! No humming, nice reverbs.

This is something I'm quite mad 'bout... I bought mine used and everything worked well until I put power on again... what'a..? All presets were gone? I just reloaded factorypresets, but they are again overwritten with some strange sets that even craziest ex-owner wouldn't had used! Problem seemed to be with battery, so what can I say... this problem ain't documented and users are having problems with batteries running out? Tsk, tsk... Behringer should have have warned about this might happen... As for moving Vamp around I feel confident. Whole box feels quite solid even though it's made of plastic.

No troubleshooting info, no user forums... Where the heck should I find some strong FAQ about how to fix this thing? I'm not the kind of person who would hunt for someone who know by calling over countries... Internet is THE word nowdays, so can't Behringer use it? Bah...

I find Vamp great base for homerecording. The quality of sound is incredible and the ease of use guarantees fast editing. For 130e everyone should have one :)

I have only owned the v-amp for 1 day, and I haven't
been off it at all except to write this review.
This little box is an absolute bargain, and I can't imagine
many guitarist being disappointed with what you get for the money.
It's easy to use, and the manual makes sense of the relatively
uncomplicated interface.

I'm using the v-amp with a Delta 1010 soundcard, and a Roland 840ex.
It's difficult to rate the unwanted noise level in my studio, as I'm
having problems with an earth loop somewhere. On distorted sounds I get lots of mains hum, but this happened with my previous amp so I can't really attribute it to the v-amp. I expect it's quite quiet in
an earth loop free environment. The clean sound capabilities are excellent, and the distortions are also convincing. The v-amp doesn't
behave exactly like a real tube amp i.e feedback capabilities, but
in every other way you would be hard pushed to record as good a guitar
sound on to your computer by the more conventional method of miking up
a amp and DIing it simultaneously (unless you have expensive mics,
a live room and a good studio engineer).
For people who are on a budget, who want to record guitar onto a hard disk recorder or computer, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this
stunning little gadget. I have heard the Line 6 Pod as well, and thought the distortions on that were perhaps a little more honed,
but there is very little in it. The extra #100 for the Pod is not really justified in my opinion, and I think Behringer as usual are far more reasonable in their pricing philosophy.

As I mentioned, I've only had the v-amp for 1 day so I can't assess the reliability of it at this stage.

The only criticism I have is that the editing software doesn't seem
to work on my computer, it can't seem to scan my midi ports properly.
I haven't been in touch with the customer support about it, I may
contact them in the future concerning their software but hey, anything
that runs on windows is never guaranteed to work in my opinion so I'm
not going to fret about it. Sorry about the inadvertant 'fret' pun...

My first instrument is the guitar, and I've been playing since I was
6 years old, and I'm 31 now. I used to play fusion jazz in the style
of Allan Holdsworth, as well as being in to a bit of prog rock like
Gentle Giant, and more crazy music like the Cardiacs and Frank Zappa.
I'd say the v-amp is versatile enough to cover most genres you can think of, and if someone nicked it and I couldn't find them then I would definitely buy another. It's quite addictive having all those
amp sounds in a little blue guitar-shaped gadget!

take the time to read the manual and it will come easily to you. EXPERIMENT! i can't stress this enough.. experiment and chances are you'll find a couple of tones you like.

overall, it sounds harsh to me. anyway, i'd like to share a setting i discovered that sounds very much like chuck schuldiner's (R.I.P) rhythm tone when he was playing in the band DEATH. bass: 3 o'clock, mid: 2, treble: 10, gain: 2, drive: 1(obviously), cabinet: 15, amp model is MODERN HI-GAIN. try it and be blown away by how close it gets to the best death metal tone in my opinion. death's tone is really HEAVY but clear at the same time.
if i'm just judging this tone, it gets a 10 for how close it gets to death's tone and how GOOD it sounds. however, it sounds harsh on all settings (amp models, cabinets, eq etc). can't get the liquidy overdrive tone.

it seems reliable enough for home use. i've had it for less than a year, but we'll see.

behringer offers free upgrades and my dealer seems friendly enough. never had to bring the unit for repairs or anything though, but i have a good impression.

this unit is obviously not a tone monster that can replace the high-end amps. however, it's a very useful practice/recording tool. it's convenient for late night practice when you can't crank up the amp. it has a built in tuner and some decent effects. as a practice/recording tool, it is great! considering the price, it is the best value among all the modellers!

Fairly easy to use. Although I don't like how you have to hold down the 2 function key to get the other amp models and effects parameters. Try doing that will a guitar in you lap or on stage.

There are some very useable amp models on this and some that either plan suck or a just repeats. The modern A class is crap and so is the custom A glass. The Californian drive is pretty muddy and crappy.
Having said that I really like the Fender Blackface, VOX AC30, the VAMP crunch and drive as well as the fender combo.
The heavy distortion types such as the mesa boogies, soldano and savage beast sound quite similar with the only difference being the standard eq's.
All the effects are quite good especially the noise gate--very useful.
Presence control is great especially for recording. Eg bring down the rhythm guitar's presence whilst retaining clarity and bring out the lead.

For the money the vamp-2 is the samrt option. The POD2 is slightly better although for the money it can't compare. It is quite addictive too, I've spend hours with it just tweaking and imitating particular recordings.

This thing is great. Plug it in and go, you have to be stupid not to be able to work this thing. It did take me a little while to learn how to save the presets however.

I use this through an Ampeg Reverberocket, with a strat, and it sounds great, all the effects work well and its easy to tweak the distortion, and the depth of the reverb. It is somewhat noisy, its got taht techy buzz to it... but when you're playing you can barely hear it. The noise gate works well to stop this, but it only works when you're not not playing.

Mine has broken twice, but one time it was because a pin broke on the plug, and the other time I plugged it into the wall the wrong way. They should just have an on/off switch. If you're not an idiot like me however, then it is very reliable, I would gig wihtout a backup definitely.

I've jsut dealt with the dealer, and they just sent it out and got me a new one, and on the other occasion, one of hte guys working there just straightened the pin for me, no big deal.

This is a very quality piece of equipment, especially for its price. Its great to use with the computer, and i would definitely buy it again if it were lost or stolen.

Might take you an hour or so to get the jist of all the controls and saving patches, but once you do this peice of gear comes alive. Editing patches is very simple and straight forward. Manual is great! Very easy to read and comprehend.

Take it from someone who has played through a crap load of effects units, including modeling tools... the Vamp2 is one of the best out there. For the money, you can't beat it, not even with other units in the $300 range. I've played Zoom and Digitech modeling pedals, which cost much more, but they don't stand up to this as far as sound quality, even though the sampling rate for the Vamp2 is only 30'something Khz. Makes no difference here.
Noise Gate alone is worth the money. Delays kick ass. Phase and Flanger are very sweet. Best of all... you can use reverb along with any effect. It has several reverbs too.
Amp sims are unbelievable. Everything from Metal to Jazz - no problem here.

It's plastic. You figure that out for yourself. I take care of my stuff, whether plastic or metal.
I would never gig without some kind of backup but this thing looks pretty durable even though it is plastic.

Never dealt with Behringer.

I'm putting together my own 'instrumental' demo cd and i will be using the Vamp on 80% of the demo. I also own a Marshall AVT150 and use a Ibanez S7420 seven string guitar. Also own a Danelectro Psycho Flanger(R).
This is one great tool!

I LOVE THIS THING! Everything is easy to understand or navigate through. You just hook up and wail away to guitar paradise. No kidding!

One thing that kept me from buying this at first was the design, looked more like a toy. In rack design, I would have bought this right away. The package includes a handy gig bag and pedals. So you get a great value for your money. And playing through it is great fun. Most of all, it matches well with my style of playing.

It is lightweight and easy to set up. Just plug in and go....

Finally I got the sound I was looking for, and this with the factory sounds. I have used this daily since last six months and have given me more playability from my guitar. Still I got a plenty of sounds and custom tweeking to do, but I am happy with the presetted sounds, if I would need some new other sounds to keep me happy I got some tweeking to do.

For the money I paid for it, it sounds great. There may are racks and preamps, perhaps with even better qualities, but at pricetag which is double for this. Fianlly I can pull off some of Eddies tricks which have not been that easy before. And some of the presetted sounds is pretty close to his brown sound.

So far so good... I don't do live gigs, but I would not hesitate to use it on stage or other gigs.

You can download upgrades 4 free on their website. That is exellent service. The manual is easy follow.

Sometimes beauty is skin deep. that is the case with this. I primaly use devises like this when I practise or write own music, and it works just fine. I have playing guitar for 20 years and refuse to get old... Still with metal riffs. If some unforgivable person would rip this thing from me I would with no doubt what so ever be in market for a new one.
It has clear sound, distinctive over all notes. And give me more color and texture to my playing. Just picture this, at the same occation I also went for a Cry Baby, which I have not plugged in yet.

I remember first time when I unwillingly (based on its toy looks) plugged in during a lunch break, I kept on playing through it untill the store closed for the night. (My symphaties goes to the staff there...)

Last but not least, I am not hired to promote this, I bought mine. But don't walk to nearest shop to give it a try, run!

Well laid out and fairly easy to use.

I've owned one now over a year so thought I'd do an update. When I first tried the V-amp2 infront of my Fender DR it didn't sound that great. Now I have an amp with an effects loop and it works much better this way. Also for practicing through head phones, with a CD or radio plugged in, the V-amp it is just great! Some of the effects are a little weak, like the wah, but overall you can get great rock and clean sounds. Excellent reverbs and delay and good amp models to choose from.
Great for someone starting out and still usefull for someone who has played for a while.

Well it's plastic so I would not be too hard on it. One little cover came
loose so I removed the back and put it back in place. Man there were alot
of IC chips in there. More than you'd think for a $129 device.

Never had to deal with them.

Have owned other DSP(digital signal processing) products from Line 6 ecetra and many amps, tube and otherwise. If something does not sound good who cares if it's cheap, you won't use it. The V-amp2 sounds very good and is inexpensive. For practicing through head-phones or as an effects box, in the effects loop of an amp, it works nicely. I've never regretted buying the V-amp2. An Eventide Harmonizer might be better but there is a *slight* price difference :)

The V-amp2 is super easy to use - I run a midi triangle with the PC and my FCB1010, and could not ask for more!

Price aside, the amp modelling is amazing on this processor. The amps all sound very good, from the cleanest to the rectified head. Also, the cabs all greatly change the sound, and really do sound close to the cabinet they similate. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the effects (some, at least) are not up to snuff. The chorus and phaser kinda suck, and there's not enough versatility in the flanger. However, the compressor works well, and the trem is all you could ask for --- plus you tap in the beat instead of using a speed knob ... so much easier.

This, so far, has been the most dependable pedal/effect i've owned, I've had it for a little under a year now. The DigiTech RP200 (yah, yah, it has a whammy), while weighing horribly 8 pounds more, just didn't seem as solidly built. . . nothing, short of my morley wah, seems to be built tougher. The good thing is, if you ever did break it or something, it's very cheap to replace.

I've never personally dealt with the company, but one of my friends has. We checked with the store we bought it at first, and they gave us a few hints. basically, don't email them. It's the impersonal way, and everyone and their dead uncle emails them, responses take time. Call them. answers right away, and good service.

This is an amazing value, comes with its own stomppad and gig bag...everything you need, pretty much. I play any and every style of music, and the only things i could wish for from this product are: 1) an on-off switch, 2) a hand-less or one-button amp bypass, for when using in combination with other pedals, 3) slightly better chorus and phaser, with the ability to access the stereo flanger and chorus without the use of a computer.

Oh that reminds me. . . when connected to a computer using Midi, you suddenly have the ability to run your effect (chorus1&2, trem, flange1&2, phaser, rotary), compressor, auto-wah, wah, noise gate, delay (echo, simple delay, and ping pong), reverb and amp and cabinet all at once, instead of just effect, reverb amp and cab like on the base unit ... seems like an afterthought or something, but it's nice that you can be running multiple things at once ... too bad you need to connect it to a computer, then save the preset, to do this...

dead easy to get good useable dounds out of this unit and it's dead easy to edit patches too. The manual is clear and concise but i didn't really need it that much cos the V-AMP 2 is very intuitive.

I use my trusty Ibanez Rg550(see review)into the V-AMP 2 into my Boss BR1180 and the sounds available are just phenomenal. The COSM pre-amp on the BR1180 just did not cut the mustard as far as useable guitar sounds was concerned so I hooked up my Line6 Flextone combo but was not very happy with the sounds. So after reading loads of reviews in Guitar mags etc I went to the shop and tried the V-AMP 2 and was blown away. so I bought one.
When recording I use the preset sounds and they are just great. But the hi-gain pre-sets are a bit noisy(same on the Flextone) but with a little knob fiddling(ooer missus!) I can get a tone i am happy with.
When I record i record dry and add effects later using the BR1180 reverbs, delays etc and they sound fine. The Delays etc on the Behringer are ok too.

Well as long as you don't jump up and down on it it should be ok but considering how cheap it is I might by another just to be on the safe side. I never gig w/out a backup(even amps and guitars) cos you never know when things will happen do you?

For Rock and Metal it is great but is also very good for Blues and I have got some very nice clean sounds but it's all in the ear of the beholder. Sounds that sound good to me may sound shite to someone else.
I it were lost or stolen I would definitelt get another cos for 93 quid you can't go wrong. I still can't believe how cheap this unit was. I looked at the POD XT(300 quid) the PODv2(199 quid) and the V-amp 2 won hands down. I have yet to use it in a live situation but for recording purposed it is the DOGS BOLLOCKS and I can't recommend it enough. One of my work colleagues was so blown away by the V-AMP 2 that after trying mine out he went and bought his own. Top stuff!! It is just so damned easy to use and sounds AWESOME!!! Just plug in and wail away(I do for hours at a time).Oh yes there is a V-AMP users group on Yahoo that is useful.

V-AMP's layout is great!
Since i'm using it mostly at home, have i connected it to my computer with midi and using V-AMP Editor.
But it's very easy to change the settings when i'm playing somewhere else with my friends :)
I didn't buy V-AMP 2, i bought V-AMP and upgraded it to V-AMP 2.
Therefor i don't have all the text on it, but it's easy anyway.

I'm using following:
V-AMP 2 (upgraded from V-AMP)
Fender TwinReverb (no reissue, TubeAmp, 100Watts)
Epiphone Gibson Les Paul Standard

Since i upgraded from V-AMP 1 i can check the sound quality between them. I've noticed that V-AMP 2 sounds much better in my setup, it's a more powerful sounds that makes me play for hours even if i really don't know the tunes in the song i'm playing :)
But...the sharp and really hard sound :( But the solution to that was to look here, and read that when i play on my amp, bypass should be selected for cabinet :) thx guys and girls!

I used V-AMP 1 for a year and then i got the upgrade for my birthday (from my guitar loving dad ) and have used it for a total of two years and i have never had any problems with it. It has alwas worked VERY fine! I have carried it to friends and back, it have been stuffed in a car several times. It always stands like the master on my amp and smiles at me when i enter the room and tells me to play something :)
But a friend of mine have the battery problem (also found: what to do here on harmony-central) so i'm going to tell him what to do :)

I havent been in touch with the support, yet.
I'm going to ask them where i can find a front for v-amp2 so that all the text is right.

V-AMP is a great tool for music. The sound can be modified to almost anything and that's great!
It's also nice to record from it!

Very nice interface. Takes no time to get good tones out of it. The manual is very detailed, but a handy chart of all the reverb types and amp models and cab models would be nice...
I think mine is version 2.1, 'cause it came with a manual add on for some new midi functions.
Also came with a nice big Behringer sticker and manuals in german, french to Indian.

As many have mentioned.... no on/off switch....
came with a sturdy metal footswitch and adaptor and carrying bag. Great deal :)

I have a Fender Hotrod deluxe and Peavey Triumph 120, both tube amps, in addition, I have had a marshall valvestate 2x12 and park marshall practice amp and Marshall MS-1 midget amp. Pedals, I own the Zoom gfx707, Boss BD2, DS1, Ibanez TS7 and SM7. Guitars, I have a Gibson Lp Studio, Fender Mexistrat, Jackson PS7, Dinky, Ibanez Rg250, Washburn 7 string and an Ovation Legend. I am 17 and have been playing for 3.5 years. I play anything from Baroque to Jazz to shred.

The V-amp2 sounds great through headphones and a set of computer speakers. I record direct into my 4-track and it sounds better than my fender hrd mic'ed up.... but its probably cuz i have a crappy mic. Anyways, the cleans are very nice and full, but it doesnt really compare with my fender. Mid-gain, marshall and vox models are nice and ballsy. High gain models like the soldano and engl and the mesa dual rect are my favourite; they sound really "there." I know this is not a fair comparison, but the zoom gfx707 is like nothing next to the v-amp. Most of the v-amp's settings sound pasable if not good to my ears... i only use two models on the zoom. The v amp sounds very organic. The effects are okay, but are definitely not "studio grade" as Behringer describes it. I don't really use much effects, but the chorus sounds thin and trebly to me. The compressor sounds fine, though.

I've not yet tried the POD, but im sure that the v amp makes up for the little possible difference with its pretty LED lights, low price and acessories.

Dunno, only had it for a couple of weeks. i've read about some problems about the power jack and memory battery though.... so minus 2 for reliability.

Never dealt with them.

I don't feel that have wasted a cent, even though I paid 53 US to ship it to New Zealand. The shops here are asking 350 US dollars a piece :S. Sounds great, works great. Oh yeah, its in the shape of a lp/tele body, just thought i'd mention that.... yer, it looks great, too :).

If you don't have a preconceived prejudice for Digital Signal Processing units, and you dont feel like spending a lot on a POD, the v-amp will do nicely for you.

I have been playing more since i've had the v-amp... may be its becaue of the absence of the on off switch? once its on, you don't want to turn it off :D

This unit works great right out of the box. Easier to figure out than POD, and very easy to modify presets. Manual is helpful when you need it.

I use this live and in home recording studio. Live through the PA system. Works well with all my guitars: Schecter C1+, Strat kit guitar, Ibanez Artcore jazz box. It even gives a decent tone for bass using the tube preamp setting (bass is a Fender MB5).

I bought this in March 2002. About eight months later it started acting like its memory was going bad. I tried contacting Behringer by email a couple of times. No response. Limped along by resetting the unit to factory presets every time I turned it on. Then I found a V-amp users group and learned that the battery contacts sometimes don't stay connected. I opened up the unit, took the battery out, cleaned it up, and haven't had any trouble with it since.

Based on lack of response to email inquiries, I'm not impressed with Behringer's customer support.

I play all styles, and the versatility of the V-amp is amazing. I also own a Music Man 110 50 watt combo amp that I never use live any more. I'm spoiled by not having to carry an amp any more. The other guitarist I work with most often has a Fender Cyber-twin. Nice unit, but not any better tone-wise. I've been playing since about 1971. If this were stolen, I'd probably buy another one... nothing else comes close for the price. It's a drag not to have an on-off switch, and I've almost destroyed the power cord connector that plugs into the unit. Be VERY careful with it! Easy to bend the pins.

I was surprised from the start,I tried the V-amp 2 down at the local music store I've been going to for 25 years.I found it very easy to use, and that's important to me, I want to play not try to figure things out!About a good sound,"beauty is in the ear of the beholder".I'm adding my comments (reviewing this product) only after reading most of the sumitted reviews.I'm happy to say,I'm glad I didn't read them before I bought mine, I probably would have had a preconcieved idea that I wouldn't of liked it.I've been looking for that 'sound' we're all looking for,and now I'm realy happy with it.Like most (maybe) musicians who have had quite a few effects,I quickly sped through the manual (which after going back thru it, it's great)I was playing with it and was blown away!To tell the truth,though I have 'sound forge','acid'and 'band in a box' in my computer,I still record analog thru my Tascam M-35 4 channel mixing board into my Teac 40-4 reel to reel.Sometimes straight into the Tascam but mostly using akg mikes.This is a long way to say I don't know about the editing patches,I play LIVE music.

I've done a lot of experimenting with different amps,effects and guitars.I started my love of music playing folk music at eleven back in 1962,guess that's forty years of playing'(I'm 52).In 1964 the Beatles came out and I worked all summer to save $62.50 for my first 'St George' electric 3-pickup lots of switches 'crap' guitar I eventually traded for,well that,s another story.With that first guitar I had a Kent amp, then a small Vox,until I got a Fender Bandmaster head,I built my own cab' with 2 12's in it.Now every one has a 'home studio', then we had 'garage bands', playing Venture's,Louie-louie or early Brit bands.One thing about that old bandmaster head about once a month it was knocked off the huge cabinet I had made, I just picked it up, once in a while pushed the tubes back in and kept going.That was b/4 1970,From that start I've played thru and owned a Fender showman bass amp,a twin reverb,when Leo left Fender I bought a new 1975 Musicman 65 watt with 4-10's,(I still own).I've had an Accoustic 100 w bass amp, a Custom 100w lead amp,a couple of small Crate and Peavy pratice amps.This isn't counting the PA power amps I've had.Now I'm using a 700w Sunn amp.I may have left out a few but at this time, I have an older Mesa Boogie studio amp A 100w Crate w/2-12's ,my old Musicman(I couldn't give it up) and a Roland keyboard amp.I apologize for being long winded,but I wanted to let you all know I've tried and owned many amps.Since I'm between bands I've been playing solo and have been using my Roland with one 15 speaker that has 3 instument and one vocal channels.A times I go stereo out and add my Crate or Mesa Boogie (at home I always go with 2 )I have many 'stomp' boxes and my pedal board usually,after coming from my cray baby wah I would go ito a 504 Zoom to a compressor, then a flange ,Ibenez tube screamer,sometimes another distortion box(set for different sounds 'cause I'm old and don't want to bend over),finally into and out of a Dan Electro stereo chorus to my amps.I did buy a Line 6 Pod and was impress.Last christmas my buddies at the music store, told me to try the V-amp,I was impressed with the floor model, they brought out the gig bag and And all that was in it-everything you need! Now I use a Dan Electro Dan-o-wah into the V-amp into my Roland,also into that amp I put my Roland workstation keyboard And my mike goes into a DigiTech Vocalist into the amp. For small gigging I'm beyond happy,I guess in the past I tried to sound like other artists,Clapton ,Garcia,Robbie Robertson,lots of others,but for quite a while it's my own sound I've been trying to perfect, which is constantly changing,I am very pleased with what I have now.I set my own settings for some and use the presets.Some I like some I can't handle.I have found a different way of playing my guitars though,My1972 Custom Fender Tele (I bought new in'73)is my main guitar (has a factory fender humbucker in the top position)I,own an american strat,a Squier 'fat strat,a tele with tex-mex hot pu's,a fat strat custom (the last 2 I built myself, though they look like Fenders I've dressed them up and wired them differently than stock.)I also used my Taylor accoustic-elec thru my setup.What I've found is that instead of most of the time running my guitars with full pickup volume (tone always used to seem better wide open)I have alot more control and get a fat tone at lower settings though there isn't much volume loss,I use theV-amp as a preamp and because I go into akeyboard amp,with very little noise it gives me the sound(s) I want.My guitars are much more versital.SOUND IS IN THE EAR OF THE BEHOLDER and I like mine!

Ive owned other Behringer products and have never had to send anything back to get fixed. As far as plastic case,I've had metal cases and the insides 'crapped' out.The foot pedal seems rugged and thats the only part I'll step on. The case I keep next to my vocalist,both have velcro attached to their bottoms that keep them stable and attached safely to a stand I devised for their use and my convience.(the vocalist's holder failed even though it was metal)By the way, the volcalist is in a plastic case also and I paid $400.00 when I got it.I have been depending on it, I do carry a Zoom 505 in my gig bag but haven't had to use it.(I have always believed in backups,2 or 3 guitars,extra amp.Nothing is worse than being without)For the price of around $150.00 compared to the $350.00 I paid for a Line 6 pod,I should have another V-amp.(maybe I'll get the 'new improved one you must be coming out with!)

I guess I should have read this first.You know my equipment,forty years of playing, folk country,country rock,blues,R&B,AND Rock and Roll.I have been a dead head since I saw these 'crazies'play on a little beach in Marin co Ca,called Muir Beach.I was camping there with my buddies when this caravan of vw busses and old cars and trucks arrived at the beach lead by this colorful schoolbus with the name 'FURTHER'on it.A band setup, they were called Keasey's(Ken) acid test band later known as the Grateful Dead.A few months later in'66 I went to my first Saan Francisco music scene,(I was born in S F raised in San Rafael 1/2 hr drive to the city).I can't remember who was playing but when I walked into the Avalon Ballroom that night and heard athe music and people everywhere making love,(the summer of love wasn't in '67,it was 1966) I said this is want I want to do the rest of my life!I've been doing since then. To finish my review only a few things, since I control all my equipment with a master on and off switch not having one isn't a problem, but it needs one,what would be really neat(maybe I haven't figured it out or read about it in the instructions yet)is a 3rd foot pedal switch for not only going left and right but up and down.(here I get lazy-please e-mail me if I overlooked it) AND people I don't work for this company or any music store,I'm just someone who keeps searching for the 'sound' and I'm very glad to have found the Behringer V-amp.Caaptain Pluto P.S.I would have given a 10 in the ratings but I believe there is no such thing as a 'perfect 10' and there always has to be room for improvement.

This is my 3rd attempt at using an amp modeling unit. The previous experiences were through a Line6 Flextone-Duo, an a Boss GT-6. For ease of use, I give this thing a 10. The Flextone-Duo really didn't have the sound I was looking for (way too "dark" most of the time), and the GT-6 was an awesome effects unit, but the amp models just didn't sound as good as I'd hoped (and yes, I owned that unit for over a year, and fiddled until I was sick of spending more time with the unit, and less time playing) I have tried out the POD untis before, btu the thing that really upset me about them, is that you couldn't see where your dials were according to the preset, so if you made a slight change, sometimes there would be a drop in frequency until you got back to the correct setting. The software seems pretty cool, but it keeps rebooting my system (pretty sure it's my system though, but maybe could be the program...). The manual is pretty good (way easier to get in and cooking than the GT-6 book). I agree with an earlier poster that it would be nice to have a dedicated function button to access the 2nd 16 amp types without having to hold the "TAP" button down, but as guitarists, our fingers should be nimble anyhow! :-) As far as getting a good sound, I sold a Fender Blues DeVille 2x12, and got this and a really nice BBQ! Within one run through of the presets, I found a patch that I have been looking for for years, and I just had to lower the gain 2 clicks. I gove it a 10 for this factor!

At first, I was a little put off by the sound coming from this unit when hooked directly to my stereo system (Boston Acoustic speakers, good sound!) I was used to hearing my DeVille in action, with far more presence, etc... Then I fiddled around with all the settings, made sure the output was set properly, and it just didn't have the brightness I was hearing from my amp. Well, the more I thought about it, it was supposed to be used for recording, and when I compared the units sound to my CD collection, I'll be damned if it didn't sound just like a recorded guitar amp! It's real purpose!!!! After that, I understood the real differences. If I wanted to hear it's "live" sound, I'd have to remove the speaker cab setting, and run it into the "PWR AMP IN" jack on my Peavey head. Now, the effects are nice, and can be quite mellow (which I like), but I assume that if you want really wild stuff, you'll have a better unit elsewhere. The amp models sound really nice, and you really can hear a lot of different "character" in each amp. Now, there are those that will tell you that their high dollar amp sounds soooo much better, and maybe live it will! But, keep in mind, that the equipment your using is not a direct result of the sound you'll get.... I have been playing cheap gear for years, (as I could never afford dropping a ton of cash on a USA Fender guitar, or a high dollar boutique amp being a family man...)but I can make even the cheesiest of guitars sound great, as it's mainly your playing style and technique. Hell, SRV could probably make you cry with a wash bucket, a mop handle and a string! As far as getting my sound, yes, it has it in there (a higher gain KWS tone, with a nice "cut through" presence to it. THe quality is good, and make no mistake, this unit is mainly for recording, but it would work for live use as well (here's a hint folks...make sure you take a little time to think about how and where to set it up, so you don't have to worry about it hitting the ground.... makes a big difference!)

Not sure, but lots of electronic stuff lasts, and lots don't! I assume you can't throw it around, but with reasonable care, it shoudl be fine. It's not a Boss pedal case though!

Can't rate here, as I have never needed them. I've heard good things though!

Overall, I find that this unit is an extremely good value, and should be a serious competitor to the POD units, ans I find the sound quality much better. I used to work in the pawn business, so I've had a chance to hear and play countless amps, and effects units, and I can tell you that this unit for direct recording really can't be touched by anything in the price range, or even in the 200-300 range. I think the new PODxt will likely have some great stuff, and have a superior sound, but it's $400! In all honesty, this unit can recreate a ton of different sounds, and is well worth the cheap price tag. The only two things I wish it had are an on/off switch, and a 3rd button on the INCLUDED footwswitch for bank cnages. When you first listen to this through your stereo or headphones, don't think "it's not like my live amp", think "how does this sound compoared to my favorite artists "recorded" tone", and you'll realize the true potential of this unit. Good job BehrINGer! :-)

Very good interface , considering the amount of options available in amp modeling and effects choice. Beyond the fact the there is no on/off switch , I don't like having to use the combination of two fingers (of different hands ..-))) to select each amp model from 16 to 32 ..there should be a sort of 'caps lock' working as on pc keyboards.. anyway they did a good job

Well, I haven't tried the POD 2 or PODxt but I think (rumors around ...)the guys at Line6 should take the v-amp2 as a veeeeery serious competitor...
I use this unit for hard disk recording and practice at home. For rehersals and live shows I use real valve amps (Marshall/Mesa)..
The Sounds .. well distorsions really rock ..if you want guts on your recorded track , this is exactly what you have ..
clean sounds are really ok , I was looking for a crispy fender sound that good go "evil" a la Jeff Healey for recording , this is mainly the reason I bough the unit for . Clean sounds on the v-amp take a little more tweaking to see them shine, either because of the (sometimes annoying) difference of volume and dynamics between modeled clean tones, either because to reach the desired "evilness" you need to cleverly balance , gain ,volume and the drive option ..hey ..just like on real amps ..-)...
Effects are obviously nothing to write home about , but for the price...

I use it as a tone modeler for hard disk recording , this is what the unit was created for . I will never use it live , I don't believe I would get the same good results .
This is my first "virtual" amp and as a valve tone junky I must say I am totally satisfied , considering waht you get for the price ...
A guy on a previous review wrote that when you listen at the sound , especially for drive and distorsion sounds, it seems to be a real valve amp recorded through a good multitrack .. I totally agree . With this kind of attitude you should approach amp modeling ...this is not the real stuff ..but it will absolutely do the job if what you are looking for is a good recording

Extremely easy to use, except for the TAP+Dial combinations which require a lot of dexterity or two hands (which is not good when trying to dial in).

Plus a free software editor. A little buggy, but a nice addition. There seem to be a few more options from the software editor than on the unit itself (add any preamp effect (compressor/autowah) to another other group of effects)

The main reason I wrote this is because of some terrible misinformation provided by another user. He claims that this unit will ruin your live sound, but he loves it for recording. He is 100% wrong, and he has not read the manual.

A. If you are running it through a cabinet live, you can turn off the V-Amps cabinet-modeling feature, hence getting only the sound of your own cabinet. Do not use the pre-amp of your amp - use an auxilliary in.

B. But if you really want flexibilty live, run it through a transparent system like a keyboard amp. Then you get all the cabinent simulations coming out of an uncolored amplification system It will sound just like is does when recorded.

That being said, the unit is awesome in its general tone. You can hear some very slight digitally-generated noise when levels are low and the dials are turned. So, if you are recording a lot of low-level track with solo guitar and lots of distortion, you may not like this unit. For general loud rocking or playing in a band, it rocks.

Amazing value. I play alternative pop and rock. Been playing for years, but I still suck (my main instument is piano). However, I'm pretty good at recording (15 years exp) and if I can get a better sound than all the great guitarists I've played with and recorded in the past, it must be a decent unit.

If it were stolen, I'd buy another and have change left over for a Coke.

Fairly easy to use, but amp selection fiddly as you need to hold own a button to get second set of amp models. Switching between patches could be better.V-Amp has to 'think' for a second before changing patches -not ideal in a 'live' situation.

Amp and cab models are convincing, and delay type FX are quite good. Flanger/ Chorus not so good and reverb tinny. Also all bass noticeably rolls off when FX are deployed. I'm thinking of changing to something more sophisticated like a KORG AX1500.

This is my 2nd unit. The 1st one went back to the store when all the patches I set up were 'lost'. Since then I've used at gigs regularly and do not take a backup.

This is a good rock/metal tool, but is flexible enough for all types of music. I use a Vintage VRS100 (the PRS copy), and also an Ibanez GTO tuned to D. These go straight in to the V-Amp. I then split the signal via the LR outputs to to Marshall MG50s, one channel 'dry', the other effected. I use the 2x10 cabinet models every time, and have both amps turned way up, but clean and with neutral EQ settings.

Easy as pie. Editing is good, i don't like midi so i don't know about the software, manual is decent but i only used it once or twice to figure out how to configure it.

effects are ok, the noise gate is awesome, i like letting go of the guitar and having it be quiet. I try to get my own sounds out of it not my influences sound, not real happy with the reverb, otherthan that its pretty good. i have owned a POD, GT-3, GT-6, GNX1 and so far i keep coming back to this unit.

well heres a trouble spot, the thing got knocked off a low tabel and glitched out, When i plugged it in it wold need a factory reset done, so i thought maybe the memory battery was loose or knocked ajar so i took the back off and there was nothing wrong with it so I put it back together and haven't had a problem with it since. So no i wouldn't gig with out a back p of some sort. But for the price you could grab 2 for the price of the pod alone.

I play metal, it works just fine for what i need. I used it with my band for 6 months and never had a problem with it. I currently use a mesa V-twin live. If i lost it or someone skanked it I would go look at the V-amp rack model coming out soon.

I don't know why anyone would run this unit into the front of thier amp. ITS A MODELER, IT SHOULD BE RUN INTO A CLEAN POWER AMP. NOT THE FRONT OF A GUITAR AMP! Plus you need to change the configuration and play with the eq settings in the configuration mode too. Read the manual for that stuff.

Very easy. Just take it out of the package, tweek a little bit and..bang, great sound.
Very easy to edit patches, but if you really want specific sound with that specific effect, you'll need your computer to work on it. But I only use reverb+delay, so it's easy. Moroever, i have an extra reverb rack to give me really good & deep reverbs.
The manual is OK...who reads manuals? I don't.

I mainly use it to make demos and i'm VERY happy. I plug my modified Yamaha or my steinberger in the unit, run it to my Behringer mixer, and then to my dman 2044 to my computer.
The high gain settings are noisy, but the noise gate is handy ( though not perfect ). Effect are just OK. I prefer to use other rack effect for good chorus, reverd and so on.

I can depend on it, but i'll buy the rack and it'll be on the market.

I had a problem with the battery socket, but i was so happy with the fast reply from the factory that i've already forgot it.

I play Blues, BLues Rock, Rock and Metal and i'm VERY happy with the unit. I'm playing for 20 years, i have Rivera and Marshall and I'M NOT PLUGING MY AMPS FOR A LONG TIME!!! All my family are thanking me on their knees every day.

A little cumbersome to get to all of the amp simulations, have to hold 'shift' every time you want to get to the second bank. Preprogrammed sounds have great 'wow' effect in the store, but once it's home you need to spend time to get the most out of it. The manual is sensible. The EQ isn't very powerful. You've got to be good at subtracting frequencies to pull out the sound you want. Lots of patch abilities are a plus, but the output is still 1/4" - not true studio standard. The layout isn't completely intuitive, but the knob lights do make it easy to mark your positions. Some patches, once altered, could not be altered back to their original form. You'd have to leave it altogether and come back to recapture the original tone. That was wierd and cumbersome.

It made some nice fun recordings for me but I ended up bypassing it entirely to get the fuller tone I prefer for my recordings. The overall sound quality was clear and tight and crisp. It didn't strike me as a pro tool, but it was a lot of fun as a neat practice toy. The tap was handy for setting delay. The compression didn't add much resonance to your tone. Some patches were convincing in their simulation, many others were not so. Overall, it seemed to have a mind and a sound of its own and didn't pick up much of my instrument's original tone.

It's plastic and I wouldn't want to take it to a gig or even a light jam. It should stay inside where it won't get bumped around. The case and pedal seemed nicely constructed and well devised. If this were "my" sound, I'd trade it back and get the Pro model rack VAMP2, because it looks like it will be more road worthy. My unit had no defects or workmanship faults.

For rock, blues, alternative, fusion, jazz, and original art rock, this multi-effects unit has merit, but it can't do much of it very well for me. It's like the icing on the cake, but I don't eat cake at every meal. I'm sticking to analog equipment for now and looking at individual effects again that are more in synch with my particular needs. I know I'll have to spend four times as much to try and get half of what the VAMP2 had, but I returned it to pool my resources.

Really easy to use, to get the best out of it use the software and edit patches via midi using your pc. No power switch though...odd, remember to put the power lead into the unit before plugging it in or you may mess up your settings.

Sound quality through headphones is excellant. If you want to get a good sound through an amp, use the v-amp as the preamp. You might notice that the unit is a little noisy this is because the input direct from your guitar is not balanced, if you do not wish to open up the unit and replace some parts then putting a pedal in by-pass mode between your guitar and the vamp should cut down on this problem. For the price it is superb.

As long as you remember to plug the power lead in to the Vamp before plugging it in you should have no problems.

making the unit need balanced inputs was stupid for a guitar unit, it is easily solved by replace the input component though (cost me about #0.60), and replacing some of the internal wiring with shielded cable improves the unit's sound tenfold. That being said you will not get a better sounding unit at this price range. Plastic casing sucks. However if you get the FCB 1010 footboard the unit is improved more, as long as you know how to do basic midi setups. I like the piece of kit, I expect I will get the VAmp pro when it comes out.
