It's a stomp-style effect... Stomp on it to turn it on, stomp on it again to turn it off. If you need a manual to explain that then guitar probably isn't for you. The other controls are "Blend", "Repeats" and "Time". There is also a switch to select between 600ms and 1100ms, which is kind of nice. It's a way to quickly change between long delays and shorter delays without having to turn the knobs. I like it.

Sound quality is great! I have a few Biyang pedals in my rig and I love all of them. This one has a great analogue sound and feel to it. As the repeats decay, they get dirtier and dirtier. Sounds like any old delay unit from the 60s/70s. Playing with the "Time" and "Repeats" knobs delivers some really spaced-out mind-bending sounds... kind of like theremin type sounds. Awesome.

I've gigged with all my Biyang pedals. They are in big steel cases and I'm pretty sure I could drive my van over them and they'd work fine. I'm not going to do that because I respect my gear, but you know... Solid.

I chatted to the sales team via email and they were a pleasure to deal with. They even offered to go halves with the postage! Great guys.

I have been playing for about 12 years and I've usually used multi effects units simply because I could never afford the pedals I would like. I've been playing live with a Line 6 XT Live for the last 4 years and I am happy to leave it at home now that I have these Biyang pedals. Very well done guys.

The unit controls are fairly straightforward, with no modulation to confound you. The problem is 12 o'clock on the Blend doesn't represent 50/50 Wet/Dry. That's around 3 o'clock, from memory. The Blend knob doesn't reach 'wet only' levels.
The repeats knob will self-oscillate from about 3 o'clock depending on your delay time.
Use a power supply for delays, seriously. The money you spend on batteries is never coming back.

From what I understand, the AD-8 is a hybrid delay. It uses cheap digital delay chips to get the long delay times, and two (one at the start, and one at the end) analogue delay chips to get an organic delay sound. This is why you get that ugly clicking sound as the pedal self-oscillates - the signal degrades into a robotic chirp. I happen to like the ugliness, but that's not what an analogue delay is meant to sound like.
There's a small but noticeable volume loss when engaged, and I swear the pedal degrades signal quality just by being plugged in. I don't have an A/B box to test this properly, but if you're a pedant, it's probably not worth the gamble. Neither of these bother me for the price, but the pedal obviously doesn't use high quality components. They'd be selling for a loss if they did.
The repeats themselves are actually pretty cool. They're warm and dark, and blend nicely with the dry signal. It's also hard to overload the unit with high gain and/or high distortion signals. For the money - for loud/hard-style guitarists - those are two great qualities.

I've never had a problem with it in around 18 months of use. I haven't abused it either, so take that as you will.

I'm submitting this review to temper the glowing praise found here. I really like this pedal, and it has a permanent place on my board, but it's not high quality.
For the price I paid, it's a great delay. It's very usable under most gain/distortion/fuzz settings and while the sound quality is pervasively low, it always sounds cool.
If you're even remotely into lo-fi guitar tones, you'll find a lot to like here. Just remember you get what you pay for, and that 'cheap sounding' needn't be a negative descriptor.

All delays/echo will have some learning curve.
This one is fairly easy and direct.
I am using this for bass and it works VERY well.

Natural and organic. Very trippy and "stoner" sounding.
I play bass in a band that is attempting to get a Pink Floyd "Pompeii" type sound and this pedal is perfect for my basses. I already have a GUYATONE MD3 Digital Delay which is good but I only use that for the "feedback" control which makes this really cool science-fiction sounding "spaceship landing" type effect. The other delay effects on the GUYATONE are OK but a bit too clinical and digital sounding.
The BIYANG gives me the pure "echo" effects I want.

Top notch. I love classic analog sounds but am apprehensive to seek out classic/vintage gear as the prices and reliability is too much of an issue. The BIYANG is a steal at under $100.
This is a wonderful lush sounding delay and works very well on electric bass.

I like rock, sometimes play some Blues. I think AD-8 matches my music very perfectly. I had my own band named Empiration, which founded for 2 year only, but the year I played guitar is even more than 5 times than I played in a band

Delays are warm and natural, I could immediately tell the difference between the AD8 analog delays and my digital delay pedals. Having a few nice valve amps makes me appreciate the true bypass. Doesnt effect the basic tone.

True bypass and top quality components. Solid chrome metal chassis seems more sturdy than many other pedals out there. Cant see it giving out any time soon.

I tried lots of delays but this is the one that works best with my tube amps. Also it was nice to buy a brand new pedal for the price rather than go second hand on a true analog delay.

Three knobs and One Toggle Switch. It Doesn't get Much Easier Than This. Unfortunately, these units don't come with a manual. The AD-8 is the upgrade to the AD-7, which is also a very good sounding unit.

I purchased the AD-8 solely for the "slap back" echo. I'm running a Blackheart BH 5 Head 1 stock BH 1x12 cab., 1 Celestion G12H loaded BH cab; with a Hagstrom Swede LP style electric guitar. If you haven't guessed, I'm going for the AC/DC tone. Anyways, the Blackheart series does not have reverb. Tried an Electro Harmonix "Holy Grail" Reverb.
That was too noisy and had the loud click when I turned it on. A friend told me he uses delay in place of reverb so I gave it a try.
The Biyang is just the opposite of Electro Harmonix.
No Loud Pop when you press the button. Tru Bi-Pass, Yes Tru Bi-pass. There is not alot of analog clutter noise, nor does it give your guitar a different tone. Now this last statement is subjective because I always play with with OD or distortion. If I was using a Fender Twin Reverb totally clean there may be some noise. But no where near what my Maroon 1980's Analog Boss pedal produced.
The amount of volume dip encountered when the AD-8 is turned on is minimal.

Biyang is the most reliable of this first wave of Chinesse "botique" pedals. They use good switches, German and American chips, ect. They have that funky Electro Harmonix bent sheet metal look. But with a polished chrome top, Sharp! I'd recommened keeping it on a pedal board or in a road case. These aren't as sturdy as a DigTech, Marshall or other "name brand" pedals.
I'll have to gig without a backup. I bought this pedal and some others to replace my PODXT Live.

I purchased this pedal online from Easy City Sound Co. in Texas. Michael Fox is one of the best dealers I've done busisness with in my 30 years of buying, selling and trading guitars. Mike helped me select this pedal based on my needs. Shipped Super fast and stands behind both his Moen and Biyang lines. I'm giving this catergory a 7 rating because I don't know what type, if any customer support Biyang has in North America.

I play a wide variety of music with my church worhip band. Hymms to modern worship. At home my tone is AC/DC, Social Distortion , GreenDay and DropKick Murphy's. A Marshall based sound with very few effects. The Biyang has allowed me to achieve a reverb like "slapback" sound without the aggonizing noise of most analog units. This unit would be better served being called an ECHO instead of a delay since it lacks some of the speed, time features you'd find on a newer Boss unit. I am truely an "old school" player. I never use the effects loop. If the effects don't sound good in the input, get a different amp. I don't have the time or patience to program my effects. aka Line6 POD. So the "easy to use" feature of the Biyang is a huge plus. The lack of noise is major since I use a class A amp. If it was lost or stolen I'd see what was in the market and purchase accordingly. If i had $189.00 I'd buy a Wampler Echo. Brian Wampler makes some of the BEST American made pedals...

I used an boss dr220e drumcomputer Biyang in. Biyang out custom tubebassamp 200w custom 4 x 100w allrange speaker. It sounds very clean and a bit subtle compared to a EHX MMdlx. but it has a long delay time. the oscillating sound is a bit like: clickg clickg clickg.. insted of argh argh kargh krghh.. it sounds a bit like a boss DM-3. but I like the analog sound although it is a bit clean and noiseless. I opend my AD-8 and it looks all analog

I used an old drumcoputer I think the sound is similar to the boss DM-3 especialy in the feedback sound it kinda clicks instead of that argh, argh, argh sound I like the analog sound but it's to clean to get a 10 I don't think the chips are digital but they're better made than the old ones I think this pedal is worth every dime we have boss DM-3,EHX memory mann dlx, ibanez AD-9 so I've comperred it with those pedals

I play a couple custon shop strats, an OLD Les Paul and a newer Firebird 7. My amp is a stock Marshall DSL 100 watt stack. The speakars are 4-75 watt and 4-vintage 30 watt in the factory cabs. I use all high buck cables. Now for the delay unit..I have the older Biyang AD-7 and was a bit disappointed in the results. It added a bit of noise to my rig. When any gain was added, the effect washed-out making it an undesirable piece for my purpouses. My new unit is a real improvement. Yeah it's all digital but......When I add that famous marshall gain I can still hear the delay unit shine through. One other thing.....It added NO, I repeat, NO noise to my signal. Very cool.

The unit is sensitive to lower battery power. I recommend a NEW!! battery or a good power supply. OK, for you analog purists. You all know that when you add amp gain you loose effect clarity. Add to that the fact that you are part of a live band mix and now maby you can see why I opted for the cleaner delay effect. I want to actually "hear" my stomp box when I hit the switch. This unit nicely fills the bill for hundreds less than a "botique" piece. So far so good. We'll see what the future brings.
