The unit is a 3 knob fuzz box. It is not difficult to use. A little touchy but manageable. The 3 knobs control Fuzz/distortion, Gain/some compression, and volume. These are cleverly called Smoke, Fire , and Heat (not in that order). It is slightly bigger than an MXR box so it does not take up much real estate in a padal board. I'll give it an 8 because it is a little twitchy but great sounds are everywhere in this box

I have spent a lot of $s on distortion/fuzz/ overdrive boxes in the last few months. At one time I had 10 all hooked up at the same time and going back and forth. I also listened to them all as the only device in the chain and put different ones together etc.. This process has been going on for months. I am primarily using Suhrs and a 335 with Seth Lovers in it with a low power Victoria 50212 with custom tubes and Celestion Greenbacks. I think this is a good sounding rig. The Pedals I have "auditioned are several Fulltones, old TS-9, Addrock Old yeller, Yardbox, Diaz, Voodoo Sparkle drive and Superfuzz, Klon, Germ and many more.I ended up with 4 Fuzz/Overdrive pedals in my rig and one of them is the Inferno. THe reason is that it just sounds great. It is very dynamic, it responds to the pick extremely well and you can hear the diffeence between single coil or double coil pickup guitars very clear even with massive distortion. (the guitars do not lose their fundamental character like many other pedals) The sound is different than a fuzz or an overdrive it sort of blends the two for a unique sound. The only negative is that it can get a little noisey, but what the heck it is a fuzz. I highly recommend this pedal and feel it is worth its boutique price

I play Jazz influenced blues rock or is it blues influenced jazz? I get so confused. I have been playing over 35 years and covered Hendrix, Cream etc when they were current. I have tons of pedals which I am in the process of selling of the ones that did not make it, too many to name (I'm a pedal junkie) Ihave 8-9 guitars from hand built classical that I commissioned to a L-5, the suhrs etc.. I give the Inferno a 10 because it is not a reissue of some pedal made in the 60s or 70s, Blackcox went for something new here and has achieved it

Very easy to use. 3 knobs, set it and go. That said, there is quite a few different tones to be had out of this box.

It's a fuzz, so yeah it's somewhat noisy, but a lot quieter than some other commercial stuff out there. In short, this thing sounds GOOD! Very thick, lots of low end. It's very responsive to picking and volume so single notes come through very distinctly. Good sustain and some nice compression too at it's higher gain setting. Not muddy despite the amount of low end. I use it for bass too.

Built like a tank. Could probably be used as a bludgeon in a pinch. ;) I would have no hesitation about using it on a gig.
