DO NOT BUY THIS PEDAL. It sucks your tone and has a weak signal. The humanizer effects is created by BOSS adding distortion to the envelope. It you are looking for a good inexpensive envelope filter
try the DOD FX-25B. (3 knobs) This has a fat tone. Remember the envelope reacts better to high quality pickups. So, if you are using shitty pickups, you will get a shitty response. Ordinarily, I dont use DOD products. But, this is the exception.
First knob= 1pm
Second= between 12 and 1
Third= 1pm
THIS WILL MAKE GOOD PICKUPS RESPOND.

Pretty easy. Takes about 5-15 minutes of toying around with it to get some favorable sounds.

Great. Freaking great. I use it on bass, cause it can be used for both. One input for guitar, one for bass. I have it going through a Trace Elliot head, w/ two Hartke Cabinets, and playing a Tobias Growler. It's makes a great sound. The sound range can go from some funky 311/incubus vibes, to some crazy Soulfly parts, to anything you want. It's a pedal that can handle some bass. It's for many of styles. I play heavy, toneful music (ex. Tool, deftones, incubus, machine head) and it makes some parts get it's groove on.

I think everyone would is thinking about getting an auto should test this out. For guitarist and bassist, it's a great pedal with several opinions. Tap tempo, "humamizer"(makes vowel sounds A,E,I,O,U), wah up, down, and both. Good for the price, and make sure you get an adapter. Battery hungry.

Pretty easy to get the hang of, though it seems confusing at first. The manual is very thorough. Considering all of the various modes it has, it's very user friendly.

Fender Strat--AW-3--ProCo Turbo Rat--Moogerfooger Ring Mod--Line6 Dl-4
I actually find it kind of noisy, not terribly noisy, but noticable. It's also kind of muddy. Contrary to what some other reviews say, it does suck sound to an extent, though not as bad as the DOD FX25B, which is just awful. My worst complaint is that it sounds awful with my distortion, and it kills the sustain. I tried bookending the AW-3 between my Turbo Rat and a TS-5, which helps, but not entirely. Pretty disappointed.
Gripes aside, it's a good sounding wah. The humanizer effect is pretty fresh, and you can get some crazy warbles from it. like i mentioned above, sound gets muddy at times, but it's adjustable. I was somewhat disappointed for the first hour, but after playing around with it, i'm a bit more hopeful. we'll see in a week.
i was trying to get an envelope filter sound to rival radiohead's jonny greenwood rackmounted effect in paranoid android, but i've learned my lesson. still, i'll keep the AW-3 cuz it's still pretty versatile. decent price too.

I'm sure i'll have no problems in this area. I don't play gigs, just recording. in that respect, wish it didn't have any noise at all.

So i think my quest for an affordable envelope filter is over. although i've read in places that an auto-wah isn't exactly an envelope filter. but this pedal totally gets the job done. just have to mix the sound better, and try not to think about the signal drop too much. it's not a perfect alternative to, say, a lovetone meatball, but it certainly is more versatile than most low end auto-wah's and envelope filters on the market. i guess despite my complaints, the reason i'll keep it is b/c there's a lot of tweaking potential, which is more than i can say for most new stompers out there.

STOP YOUR GRINNIN' AND DROP YOUR LINEN!!Someone has finally produced
and auto-wah/auto-filter that rivals the Mutron III and AF-9!!Not only
can you get the "PWOP"(up)sound,but you can also get Bootsy's "SHOWP"
sound(down).And the auto-wah function with humanizer makes it more versitile than the Mutron III or AF-9.Plus you can use an expression pedal to create more funky sounds.While most auto-filters are limited
to one sound,the AW-3 will beat the snot outta most of them!! It also
has a seperate input for bass guitar,and is very quiet.

I play R&b,Metal,Fusion,Blues,Funk,and a little Jazz.Been playing 22yrs. and have used just about all the auto-filters that were made. The Mutron III is still the King,and the AF-9 is still Queen.However,
the AW-3 is a worthy off-spring and will get lots of work.The Ibanez
AF-9 still has more "SPANK" to it but Boss really came through on this puppy!The versitility of the AW-3 will probably make it a little
more useful.So,all you FUNK-HEADS line up,and get ready for some SPANKY,HANKY-PANKY!!!

Once you figure out what each knob does, it's not too tough. There are tons of greta settings on this box. They aren't all practical, but they sure are fun.

I am running a Fender 75 Jazz Reissue into the BASS IN slot. The sounds are all really fun and funky, but I am still having some trouble getting my low end to sound right through it. I've only had it for a week and a half, so hopefully with some more tweaking, I'll find a perfect sound.

Im using this with my Fender Strat and it's a nice addition. Paired with a Boomerang and you can layer on the greasy pimp funk! When the humanizer effect is on, you have to vowel knobs to switch from, the first sound rings as you hit the string (oooo..) and the second is after is sounds (...iiii).. the result: a very interesting wah. Touch response, single vowel sounds, humanizer and another feature that allows you to "count out" the rhythm so it gives you a constant "wah wah wah wah wah" sound. Overall, it takes nothing away from the quality and only adds... a good companion to anyone who likes soloing to "Fire on the Mountain"

well, i've only had it for a day or so and i must say, im a little PO'ed that the battery has already run out. Stupid batteries. so if i actually sprang for ANOTHER plug, it'd be a 10, however, like all battery operated gadgets, at least carry a few spare 9 volts.

This unit provides both the features of a traditional envelope filter and a unique "Humanizer" effect which enables you to obtain human vowel sounds. Pretty cool.... Read the manual and you'll figure out how to use this thing. It's pretty straight forward, but you need to read the manual, or you may become a bit frustrated.

This is the only stompbox I have, the rest of my stuff is rack mounted. Here's the simple test, if it doesn't take away from your tone, it's cool. Now, I just got this thing and should probobly wait a little before reviewing it, but I'm just very excited about it. I had a lot of fun playing around with this box, combining it with phasor, tremelo, flanging, etc. It really is a lot of fun. I was looking for a traditional envelope filter and ran across this. I was immediately sold on the Humanizer part of it. What can I say, think of this thing as an envelope filter and then some. Lots of fun, not to mention an original and unique effects box. But please, test drive one for yourself, do not go by my opinion. Remember, one man's heaven is another man's hell.

It's very difficult to find a truly unique effect, not to mention one that's usable as well. Maybe I'm being a bit overenthusiastic, but I really like this thing. I would definitely buy this again if lost. I have my crybaby for traditional wah-wah, and now this thing, for envelope filter AND Human vowel sounds! How could you not find this toally cool?
