Very easy to use...once you get the hang of it. I had to go online to fully understand what each knob does. But now that I understand what the pedal does, I know how to use it very easily. The unit I believe has been upgraded to a BF-3 which handles both guitar and bass, so the BF-2 and BF-2B have since been discontinued. However, for how much I got it for, I'm happy!

I run out of an SWR SM-500 into a Goliath II, using Fender Precision with EMG active and Fender Jazz bass. Sounds great. No unwanted noise, except for the noise expected for a flanger which you want. :) Sounds great with distortion.

I play many subgenres of metal, grunge, ambient, some punk, classic rock. Sounds great in a metal environment, but works well with melodic. Personally this is the only bass flanger I've played, or know of anyways. If lost, I'd look for this one again, but maybe I'd look into a BF-3 because it can handle bass as well as guitar (which I'm getting into).

there are a lot of great sounds in this pedal, which is why it got a 9 instead of an 8. I would have given it an 8 because there are a lot of controls for a simple effect, but tweaking it around is quite fun, and I discovered quite a few useful sounds. the manual is easy to read and very handy, which I appreciate.

I'm using a semi-hollow schecter and a fat strat through a fender clean and modified marshall overdrive (both all-tube circuits) and I couldn't love the sound more. I've pretty much kept it on one setting-- rate all the way down, depth all the way up, very swooshy-- but it works absolutely wonderfully for me. great sound, if not a bit metallic. but hey, when you've got a flanger cranked, I think a metallic sound can be expected.

I had it for 15 minutes before a knob broke off. I bumped lightly into the door frame and the resonance knob snapped. I bought it used (like new) in a pawn shop, so they couldn't do anything. however, the construction other than the knobs is great quality-- easily accessible battery, thick bottom plate, and solid soldering.

I largely play alternative rock. this flanger does just what I need, even without the resonanace knob-- I would have used it the least, anyway. I would definitely get this same flanger if this one were lost or stolen, and I'd feel confident gigging without a backup. I'd bring a spare battery, obviously, but otherwise it's a very musical pedal, and does everything I wanted a flanger to do.

It's very easy to get a good sound out of it. What's really amazing is the versatility of this unit: it goes from very subtle to completely over the top. Also it's possible to get a cool chorus effect from it, so basically it's two units into one.

My setup: Ibanez soundgear -> PQ-3B -> LM-2B -> BF-2B -> OC-2 -> Trace Elliot amp.
Its not very noisy unless you dial the resonance up past 5: than you can hear a flanging kind of feedback coming from your speakers (although i suspect my effects chain is also responsible for the noise in part) Like i said before: this unit is versatile. It ranges from sweet, subtle to complete madness and everything in between.

Prior to buying this unit i already owned a CE-2B and as every bass player knows, choruses are the widest used bass effects. (apparently)
So naturally i wanted one to see what the fuss was about: it was a dissapointment from the start actually. I just received my BF-2B and the flanging effect is very cool: totally adaptable for bass. With the BF-2B its also possible to recreate a chorusy like effect. And guess what: it's way cooler sounding than the CE-2B. So my advice, if you are looking for a cool bass effect buy this one. It's actually two effects rolled into one.

I used it with a Mesa Nomad. The FX is not noisey. But it is very weak and metallic. its not crap, it just isnt that good. Of course all this is subjective but unless you turned the res right up you could barely hear it. i want to use it with distortion, my search for a better flanger continues!

The bracketed text in the Sound Quality section:
"(more like to CE-2 but it doesn't kill the high end)"
should have said:
(more like to CE-1 but it doesn't kill the high end)
The CE-1 is the original Boss Chorus Ensemble.

In use it's just like any other four knob flanger (same knobs as Boss BF-2). Like all flangers it's easy once you know how.

This effect is similar in design to a Boss BF-2 but not in sound. There's two main differences: The BF-2B doesn't flange the low-end so it does't blurr the low notes. It also uses a faster delay time (more like to CE-2 but it doesn't kill the high end). This means you don't get an overdone metalic sound, if you like that metalic tone then you might want to go for a BF-2. For that swirly vibe (kind of Jaco) it's great, excellent for fretless. I'd A/B it with a BF-2 to see where you want to go with your tone. However, you might think the BF-2B is weaker than the BF-2, listen for the sound you want in the end and don't bias yourself mucking around with overdone flange sounds. I'm giving it a 9 because it does have it's place in the world.

I bought it an 1990 and sold it in 1994. At the time I wanted that metalic flanger sound and this unit didn't do it. Shortly after I got a BF-2, which gives that sound. I mainly used it for fretless. In retrospect, I should NOT have sold it, I would buy another one if I saw one at a reasonable price. The BF-2B does a nice job of adding flange without killing or overtaking the tone.

This is an extremely versatile pedal. I can get a great chorus sound with it. I can also get that crazy swirly, metallic sound we all have come to expect from good flangers. This thing is actually he exact same thing as the BF-2 only its brown instead of purple and it says "Bass Flanger." Sounds much better for the guitar.

You would have to have a hammer attached to yer foot to destroy a Boss pedal. This was made somewhere in the mid 1980's and it is still just as sturdy as a Boss pedal from 1997.

Boss Flangers are great. Not as crazy as the ADA flangers but still pretty crazy. Very nice sound and well worth the price. I wouldn't want to spend the money on an ADA or E.H. Electric Mistress. And screw MXR flangers.
