If you can solder you can do this mod in about 1-2 hours. All the componets are provided including solder and solder braid.
The controls remain the same for both the modded and stock pedal. Level, Tone, Attack and Sustain. I will give it a eight because you do need to understand how the controls effect the sound. It does take some tweeking with any comnpression pedal.

It took my below average CS-3 and made it sound like a pedal costing three times as much. The pedal is now extremely quiet at even the most extreme settings. Not to mention the pedal now has a warmth and analog quality which was lacking on the unmodded version. The pedal will play nice with my other pedals. I currently run the compressor after my tubescreamer before the amp. I also tried it in the effects loop with my Boss dd-20 with similarly pleasing results.
The pedal is warm and as transparent as you want it to be.

Boss pedals are built suprisingly well. I think if you take your time soldering it can be considered just as reliable as a stock pedal.

I did have a few questions for Monte and he was very quick with responses. He was very helpful.

Compression is good for any style of music. The typical critique for compression is that it kills picking dynamics. Used in moderation this pedal can add that something to your sound, making notes ring fuller with a slight bloom, for chickin pickin or even as a clean boost. If you have a CS-3 it is well worth the $20 to unleash the pedals true potential. Monte did a great job on this kit!
