Like any other BOSS Distortion/Overdiver pedal, the control tones are straight forward: level, Gain and two equalisers. Having said that getting a good sound out of it to play whatever you want requires a bit of tweaking and patience. You have to be mindful of your amplifier setting as well. I would like to point out that at higher gain settings, this pedal screams hysterically, and at lower gain setting it becomes fuzzy. The equaliser knobs are suppose to offer you a greater tonal versatility but this again requires patience and a bit of imagination too to get the best out of it.

Sound Quality : 3
I must say this is not a very versatile Boss pedal (compared to gems like OD-3 or BD-2). If you are looking to make a screamer out of it, this is your pedal. you can easily reproduce heavy metal and nu-metal sound with it. However, if you are looking for bluesy crunch or a solid yet smooth, fat sustain dont even count on it. like I said it is a screamer for the sole purpose of reproduction of metal sounds. When I set the gain to maximum it is like a shot through the ears and turning down the gain to lower settings takes away any tonal clarity that defines the sound of rock: i.e. it becomes fuzzy beyond tolerance. You DO NOT WANT at any one point to run a single-coil pickup through this thing. It was a shot through my ears with Ibanez humbucker. with my strat single coil it was even worse.... Horrible horrible horrible! It amplifies the twangy tone which is the characteristics of fender. and the sustain it produces is not even solid. it is hollow and empty with the thinner strings and it was simply fuzzy with the thicker strings. So you have a twangy high pitched screamer that sounds like an old lady screaming with total lack of tonal clarity. yuck!

having said that, I must give it a higher mark than what i think is appropriate because of the purpose it was created for and the inappropriate gears that i owned. obviously this product and single coils are not the perfect marriage. simple advice when using this product: stick with humbuckers, set your gain between 4-8, set the level between 4-8, and only get imaginative with the equaliser knobs

Reliability : No Opinion
I have never gigged it (like any sane-minded blues-rock player) It has never died down on me (but on the other hand I do not use it a lot) I have to leave the score blank because I cannot fully test its field-reliability

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed to

Overall Rating : 2
I play blues rock (clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, ZZ Top) and Hard Rock (GNR, Van Halen, AC/DC/, Deep Purple, a bit of Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi) and I do not recommend this product to anyone wishing to play any of the above. General tips when using this product is stick with humbuckers and only get imaginative with the equaliser knobs and leave both gain and level between 4-8. Health and Safety Hazard Warning: DO NOT COUPLE THIS PRODUCT WITH ANY SINGLE-COIL. YOU WILL CREATE NOISE POLUTION AND PUT YOUR OWN HEARING AT RISK!!!

This is Monte's newest MT-2 Sustainiac Mod. Instruction were clear and got the kit in 3 days. Very easy to follow and took me an hour to do. If you have any soldering experience this mod's a snap.

Man, where do I start. This is absolutely the best sounding pedal after the mod that I've ever heard or played. No kidding! I am still stunned at the tone I get from this pedal. The mod transformed a very trashy midrangy pedal into the most beautiful tonemiesters you've ever heard. I've played Analogman, Keeley, Fulltone, and several other boutique pedals in my 30 plus years of playing. This pedal delivers THE TONE I've always heard in my head. Words cannot describe this mod. Thich, FAT, singing sustain that just rings with super rich tones. Let me say this, if I played this pedal in a store I would not blink at paying $200 or more for it. Wouldn't blink an eye. If you're a player and you've always wanted that tone you hear in your head and have never been able to find it in a pedal, do yourself a favor and buy this mod. You can thank me later.

Reliability : 10
It's a Boss. Should last forever.

The instructions were super clear so I had no need to contact Monte. But he has a reputation for standing behind what he sells.

I play contemporary Blues, Gospel, and many other styles. This mod will do Rock, Blues, and with the diode option can even do Jazz or Country. Very versatile pedal. I know there will be those that will laugh at me once they see a MT-2 on my pedal board. The laughing, however, will cease after the first set. I am amazed at the tones I can get from the Sustainiac. I can hit a note or chord and at the right volume the guitar will sustain forever. I've played solos buy hiting one or two notes and just sliding my fingers up and down the neck having this most beautiful singing sustain bellowing from my amp. Otherworldly! Buy a MT-2 and do this mod or send the pedal to them and let them do the mod for you. Guys are offering me 2 bills for this pedal. Heck, I could probably sell 2 or 3 at each gig. Monte deserves a great deal of respect and credit for what he's doing. Analogman and Keeley, move over. There's a new kid on the block and he's kicking serious butt!
