2 knobs, very simple.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a fernandes monterey elite and jackson dr7 into the ce-2 into a whammy pedal, 535q wah, ernie ball volume into a mesa triple rectifier with a dd-5 delay and sonic maximizer in the loop and mesa oversized 4x12 cab.

Very good, I like it a lot. I've seen people write it's noisey, well I use my fair share of gain and I don't hear anything in the loop or in front of the amp. It does alter tone, but I like how it affects my sound so to me it's a good thing. I'm only giving it an 8 because I haven't played tons of chorus pedals, but I really do like this one.

Reliability : 10
Well..it's pretty old and it works right? So I'm gonna say pretty good lol.

I play all kinds of music but basically stick to ambient styles and hardrock. It works very well, I actually like to constantly keep it on to color my tone, if it was stolen I might look at the ce-1 or super chorus just to look at some other pedals, but I really like the ce-2 and would probably get it again.

2 Knobs to turn = complex simplicity.

Sound Quality : 10
It is lush and fat. The Perfect sound with tube distortion. Not noisy, and it is easily the best chorus pedal I have ever played/owned. Anything I have compared it to seems to fall short. I have often tried to find a vibrato pedal (for a reasonable price) that will better compliment my blues style music or out perform my CE-2, but to no avail. If you desire a soft and mellow chorus or a pitch bending blur the CE-2 is a near masterpiece.

Reliability : 10
I bought it used, TEN years ago. Not one issue even with constant use.

I run a 69 Guild Starfire V Lefty or an 89 heavily customized Yahama Lefty with Duncan humbuckers through a Blackface Bassman head to either 4-10 or 2-12 cab, a TS-5 tubescreamer and the CE-2. -Thats the whole set up. Hence I play mostly blues style music, though some jazz and rock are also in the bag. Been playing for 12 years and I'm still refining my sound and trying not to sound like SRV. I have a Green label CE-2 from Taiwan and don't plan on messing with it as it has always sounded superb to me. Even recording through an original SansAmp, the CE-2 only enhances my tone. I would highly recommend the CE-2 to anyone. It is foolproof and bulletproof. If it was seperated from me I would most likely sell my stereo and try to find a VB-2, to see if they live up to the rep. Remember we might play other peoples songs, but try to play them as if they were as original as we can hope to be. Peace.

This pedal is extremely easy. one of the main reasons i bought it is because of its simple knob setup. depth and rate, i dont need anything more. doesnt take hours and hours to find a decent sound.

Sound Quality : 10
setup:
greco lawsuit SG, my nelsonic telecaster, and a japenbacker>>>CE-2>>HD-2>>DD-3>>5150

the sound is incredible! i use this for a variety of music, from the buzzcocks to the minutemen, the cure, and some 80s mullet metal. it does all of these perfectly! it sounds amazing with a clean tone, it adds a thickness that i havent heard in any other chorus. "warm" is the keyword here!

Reliability : 10
this pedal is pretty old (its a made in japan model) and its as tough as a pedal can be. you could rob a bank with a boss pedal.

Customer Support : 5
i dont know about this area. its an old pedal and i dont think boss has been very good in the past with this kind of stuff.

Overall Rating : 10
i play a lot of music. i bought this pedal because i have heard from many people that it is great, as well as the fact that robert smith of the cure uses this pedal for his 6-string bass setup. ive also heard that this is the same chorus device that is used in the roland jazz chorus amps. and after hearing the CE-2 and the JC120, i would say thats true. This is THE ultimate chorus pedal. ive tried everything from some boutique stuff to danelectros and this IS chorus.

2 knobs...couldin't get any more simple.

Sound Quality : 10
I go for the big texas blues type sound (i.e. Chris Duarte, SRV) this pedal is great to use to thicken out a semi-dirty sound. I use mine with a 1967 super reverb and a 1895 marshall JCM 800 2x12 combo, and i love the sound.

Reliability : 9
it's a little old, and i use a power supply....so far no real problems.

Overall Rating : 10
i'm a blues player and this pedal is great with a tubescreamer or a Boss ds-1 before it. If it were stolen of lost, i'd try to find another one. Great sound and i reccomend it very highly.

Two knobs, rate depth. hard to get a bad sound unless you turn both all the way up, and its still not terrible. I have the green Japanese one, that requires ACA adaptor, which I need to buy somewhere if they are around.

Sound Quality : 9
Just got this bad boy about 1 hour ago. Wasnt all that impressed at first. Then I opened it up and tweaked it like the nice people below said to do. I lined up the blue glue (goo?) that the other guy below mentioned and voila, 10 times better. The pot inside seems to be a gain pot or something, because it increases and decreases the effect. Too low and the effect is almost clean, too high, and it breaks up when you play loud. Somewhere in the middle, you are good to go. Full chorus, and no break up. Ill give the sound a 9, because I wish the rate would go faster like a small clone (which I would also like to try), but this sounds pretty durn good. I am using a gibson les paul special and a hot rod deluxe as well as an SD-1 and DS-1 for dirt. I cant wait to try this beast with my strat.

Reliability : 9
well, its old, the rubber is kinda dried and plasticy, not rubbery. The rubber gasket for the battery screw was gummy like tar so I scraped it off and the black crap is still on my fingers (and keyboard now). But it works perfectly! Now that I dont need to open it up anymore, it should last a long time more. Never had a boss pedal crap out yet!

Customer Support : No Opinion
who knows??? maybe Ill find out when I try to hunt down an ACA adaptor or a new gasket

Overall Rating : 9
I will play around with this chorus more and Im sure Ill keep it for a while. It sounds better than my super chorus, especially with distortion. The super chorus I would give a 7 on sound, while the CE-2 gets a 9. I want to compare it to a small clone or polychorus, or maybe a voodoo lab chorus.

This unit is easy to use. rate and depth. Ive found that a good basic sound is better than a complex sound with many parameters when using live.

Sound Quality : 9
2 levinson blade strat copies, with levinson and dimarzio pickups, graphtech saddles, into a sessionette75, or marshall valvestate- i also own a yamaha dg80, but this has had a software upgrade- chorus is now built in

This pedal sounds great. No stereo B**l S**t required.

Reliability : 10
bomb proof- it cannot be destroyed by conventional weapons (a bit like keith richards)

Customer Support : No Opinion
Its an old pedal and i have never dealt with the company.

Overall Rating : 9
i play many types of music. It works great for all styles that require chorus effects- might not be good for recording- try a stereo chorus.
If it were stolen, I could probably live without a chorus pedal, but it still sounds great.
By the way "mr Anon"- who compared this pedal with BUD- that would mean all of these pedals suck, irrespective of country of origin. It would mean that the tone is LACKING IN BODY, WISHY WASHY, COLOURLESS, and .... PISSY? - Iprefer to compare it to a nice strong real ale- but u probably wouldnt know what that was.

Basic chorus control knob functions, rate and depth.

I have 2- CE-2,one Japanese and the other Taiwan.
The Japanese is the of the first/earliest period, black label,
twin cavities in the battery compartment, with battery wire coming from
thumbscrew end and serial #9000.
The Taiwanese CE-2 is the green label/last period.
I have spent hours testing and comparing the two CE-2 against each
other.
The CE-2'S played through - Roland JC-120,Fender Rivera Concert,Fender 65 Twin Reissue,Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue,and Tech 21 Trademark 10.
The guitars used Ibanez Iceman,63L series Fender Strat,62 reissue
Fender USA Telecaster and Gretsch White Falcon Jnr.
Both pedals running on power adapter not batteries.
Even blindfolded myself and got wife to help in test.
Final test done through Trade mark 10 with headphones.
DRUM ROLL.................................
And the winner is...........................
Fucking both.
They are identical in sound,no differance whatsoever.
I was so pissed off, because i was from the old school, that Japanese
BOSS were superior to Taiwanese.Maybe in other Boss effects it is
true but not between these CE-2'S.
The joke is i bought it new in 82 and never knew you could open
it up and tweek the depth of the chorus to maximum.
(In the test i put them both full and midway before the effect cut
out.)
I always knew that the CE-2 was better than my CE-3,but not the same
as the highly underated BOSS Taiwanese model.
(Just for the record, the CE-3 is a piece of shit, lacks sparkle and
brilliance of CE-2,but i also bought this new in 83(BLACK LABEL-JAP)
so i could utilize the stereo effect).
BOTH CE-2'S SOUND GOOD,BUT DON'T FALL FOR THE EBAY/COLLECTORS HYPE.

Reliability : 10
These are bullet proof, just don't chip the paint of the edges.

Roland/BOSS Australia is great.

Music style-New Order,Early Cure,Sisters Of Mercy,Rammstein,
Also Bowie,Rolling Stones etc..
Played in bands from 81 till 1990,then fucked up and got married.
If i had it stolen i would buy it again or steal someoneelse's.

This pedal have 2 knobs; Rate and Depth. It can't get much easier, now can it? I have no manual for it, and I don't need one...

Sound Quality : 10
I am using this with my Peavey Bandit (II) mostly with clean channel selected, and I love the sound. It's a very clear, warm, natural sound and it's not noisy at all. This is what I think chorus should sound like.

Reliability : 10
I've used this pedal for several years and I never experienced anything unpleasent with it. I would defenetly use it on a gig, no doubt about that. Like all Boss pedals, you can handle it roughly but still it won't get damaged, and you can rely on it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I never had any problems with it (or any of my BOSS pedals) so I have not contacted the customer support.

Overall Rating : 10
I play a lot of different music, from blues to heavy metal, and I can easily use this little pedal no matter what musicgenre I play. I have compared with a Ibanez Soundtank Chorus and the Boss sounded much more natural and warm, and I only paid like 30$ for this one, unbelievable!

Well... what to say? Ease of use? your regular cigar smoking chimp could figure it out in a second! Only two knobs, Rate, Depth... easy

Sound Quality : 10
Fantastic, you can easily get REALLY thick metallica style choruses out of it, as well as just a quiet "12 string" sound... like all the old Boss gear, it's Great!

Reliability : 10
Never had a problem, never see myself having one! the only thing that can go wrong with these is that the battery might be dead when you rock up to your show... but I guess that's what they made the power packs for! so if you have one of these... that automatically eliminates the only possible let down!

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I've had this thing for quite a while, so it's seen many musical styles, from Metal to Jazz, and Punk to Folk... and anything else in between, it's very versatile, because it's so easy to use, just add more or less chorus, depending on what you're doing! I havn't been able to find a chorus as thick and full in any multi effects (with the sole exception of the Line6 PODv2.0), even the Boss ones! If it was stolen, and I never had the POD, I'd definately get another... plus, they're easy to find, and you can get them REALLY cheap!

I'm just posting an update on my love/hate relationship w/ the CE-2 to confirm that i LOVE it now without a doubt! See, I have the black Label japan version cuz it's supposedly the best. well, I agreed that the sound was fat, but maybe to fat for my taste. It seemed to round off my tone which is that sweet compressed overdrive that you only get from vintage amps. I thought it may've been a hoax w/ this pedal business because my fav players who used them in the 80s (G.E. Smith Clapton, Page) got tones pretty dead accurate to a Leslie in Chorus mode (go figure!)Anyway I still played with it because it made my Bluesbreaker sound like a leslie cabinet but i didn't like the boost and the fact that it cut my highs pretty bad. i just figured it wasn't the "real" one so i was considering putting it on the backburner for a Rotosphere or small stone phaser. However, after hearing/seeing that bright young man, who's review is probably gonna be after this post, solve this Jap/Taiwan/Dick York/Dick Sargeant dilemma, i changed my mind! All i did was turn the trim pot (the white plastic button on the circuit board with the phillips scrwdriver slot)and BAM! there it was all this time! It turns out that someone previously must've tweeked it all the way up and that's why it didn't sound right to me. Sure I've heard that tone before but i didn't like that type of chorus sound, it sounded too synthy or 80s something, I guess you guys who own these do. Actually there was some blue glue on the trim pot and some that dropped on the board, probably that's where this was set originally. all i did was line up the glue spots to where it originally was and I had that "sound". Because it seemed like it matched my original guitar output so now my tone remains unaffected with that sweet swirly sound that's pretty trippy with a little grit for a realistic leslie effect. people who talk about leslies equate it with that gurgly tremolo sound, when the leslie produces another distinct sound that gave birth to all these chorus pedals we have available today. and i used to think those players had leslies hidden or something but it was just this pedal the whole time. A perfect example of the sound I desire from this pedal is Eric Clapton's "It's In the Way That You use it" I doubt many people are into Hall and Oates here (I wouldn't understand why) but that was G.E. Smith's claim to fame during the early 80s before he was on Saturday Night Live. Another perfect example of this sound is used on their rendition of "When something Is Wrong with My Baby" Live At The apollo Theater. G.E's solo on that song is one of the many reasons why i fell in love with this effect. The point here is that you can get probably get a good sound out of any pedal that's decent if you know how to tweek it. That's what these guys probably did (or their guitar techs). but ,there, the secret is unveiled! WHOOOOOO!
