Not that difficult to get used to. The real kicker is the "Tone" and "Effect Level" knobs. This thing is meant to be put into the effects loop.

I use it with a Godin Detour (discontinued) through a Peavey Classic 30. As stated above, this pedal is meant to be used in the effects loop. Otherwise, it will sound very sterile and sound very poor in general. Be sure to fiddle with the "effect level" and "Tone" knob; it is what makes or breaks your sound.
Without effects loop: 5

guitars: custom made strat, yamaha pacifica; pedal chain all BOSS: CS3-DS1-OD3-CH1-DD3; to Roland cube 60. I needed subtle chorus, just to add a bit of spice when playing clean chords and arpeggios, and that's what it is. Anyone here looking for a watery, swirling type chorus, look for something else, this can't deliver it. Not noisy at all. Also good for acoustic guitar.

Yes, definitely. Just make shure you buy an adapter the moment you buy this pedal. It's current draw is 22mA, and it means one thing: it will eat batteries.

I've been playing for twelve years, constantly gigging for six years, and the first thing I look for in any piece of equipment is reliability. I also need effects that cover as many genres and musical situations as possible. I don't use chorus that much, so this box suits to me. Again, if you need quality chorus that bad, buy yourself T.C. Electronic (the one that Eric Johnson use), that will do the job. I'm fine with this one.

It's not difficult to use. Every knob says what it does. I give it 9 cause I simply don't like it...

So much tone sucking... It's awful...
And the EQ knob... when you are using it in clean sound - OK. You can twist it however you want.
But if you use it distorted there is a huge increase in the volume. When in distorted sound you should be careful where you leave the EQ knob so there will be no difference in the volume level when turning on or off the chorus.
Well, there is a Level knob on the CH-1, but when you turn it lower you barely hear the effected sound...

Takes a little tweaking to get a decent sound. Does not have the same depth of effect as many other chorus units.

I have a hard time assigning a numerical value to the sound quality of this unit. I think it is hideous with electric guitar. The sound is sterile, digital, lacks warmth, and gives an ice pick like chorus sound. Any of the older Boss choruses or the newer digital CE-5 sound warmer.
However... this chorus sounds GREAT with acoustic guitars. Everything that hurts it with electric seems to help on the acoustic. The chorus is precise and emphasizes the mids and highs on an acoustic extremely well. It retains the clarity of your acoustic sound without the slight muddiness that can result with a lot of other choruses. I was ready to dump this thing until I tried it on an acoustic.
I am going to give it my rating for acoutic, for an electric I would have to give it no higher than a 6. I think Keeley would have to have a mod for this for it to even be worthy of consideration for most electric guitar applications.

Boss support sucks, can't even get parts easily from them. But.. at least they finally put most of their newer manuals online so they don't get totally slammed. They also have a decent warranty and they aren't going out of business so they will be around to honor it.

I play and write orignal rock, mostly in the classic rock, old metal genres as well as writing music for acoustic guitar. Love the Grateful Dead, Dylan, CSNY, Allman Brothers, Yes, Queen, Deep Purple, Hendrix, Zeppelin, AC-DC, Sabbath, Al Dimeola, Zappa, Bob Marley, Sonny Landreth, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.. you get the picture.
Have been playing over 30 years, I am constantly in search of better tone and although I don't have the best ear ever I have a pretty good one.
I have owned and tried a lot of pedals over the years and think that I can speak authoritatively in my review of this one. I will grant however that sound is subjective and different guitar/amp setups may yield different results.
My advice is, try this out if you are looking for a chorus for your acoustic guitar. If you are buying a chorus for your electric; unless you are looking for a really modern, mild chorus that has a very clean digital sound, you should look elsewhere. This is a great chorus for acoustic guitar players only. Love this for acoustic, hate if for electric.

your generally going to get one sound out of this and its exactly what i want an icy cold tone for icy cold songs about messed up stuff there's enough control on it to do exactly that and if you have an ear for it the eq, rate and depth can all be zero's in 2 exacly what you want. so its easy with musicians ears.

ive run this amp through a few different set ups a fender blues Junior, marshall Avt 50, Fender FM 12, Crate 212 and some other goofy amps and i can't say anything bad about it it's a little odd with distortions because im a big fan off high gain and fuzz but thats what i bring out my ce-5 for. i love the chime this adds, it's subtle and at points you wouldnt know it was there 9at least at my settings) it's good for a little extra color its not a warbly effect but ive got it sounding natural at times-im a big analog fan and i still like this. it's great for cure/joy division type jams as well as other things you just have to know what its going to do at what setting

i would say more about pedal combinations and settings to help but ive taken a long time to get my sound so dont be tone deaf know it's not analog and turning a chorus all the way up doesnt make it lush. i like effects that add ambience or a different feel not to say oh he has a chorus or delay ETC. i like noise as much as the next person and there's pedals for that if you need an icy chorus this is it.

This is a great subtle chorus. It is not as lush and deep as many, but it is not intended to be. The EQ control is very useful when changing instruments and not having to adjust your amp settings to suit the chorus. I like having the level control as well to adjust the amount of wet/dry signal...many other models don't have this feature. Anyone complaining that it isn't lush enough should really do more research...why did you buy it if you want a very lush chorus? I'm giving this a 9 to make up for the uneducated reviews.

This pedal fits my chorus needs perfectly. It isn't the most lush, but that's fine with me. I run it in my effects loop and it's nice and quiet. I like having the dry/wet level control and the high end EQ is great! I can change guitars and effects combinations without having to mess with my amps controls. A note to those complaining about it being weak or subtle...why did you buy it? It isn't a TC or Small Stone...it isn't intended to be. I think it sounds great...I've been playing for 30 years and have been through tons of pedals over the years. I'm rating it a 9 to make up for some of the lame reviews.

This pedal has no sound quality. It produces cold, tinny, cheap, cheesy, weak digital sound that cannot stand up to good chorus pedals. Reading others posts about this pedal, I am not the only one that has issues with the lack of sound quality of this pedal. The sound quality is bad, even for Boss. Boss dropped the ball on this pedal big time. There is WAY too much de-tune effect to this pedal, and you cannot tweak that out of the signal. Also, there is about a 50% drop in the sound and tone when I engage this pedal. That is completely unacceptable.
This pedal was replaced QUICKLY in my line up by a Electro Harmonix Small Clone Analog Chorus pedal; the sound is like a different world.

Reliability is a moot point with this pedal. It sounds so bad that it gets replaced. I sold this piece of crap for $30.00. I felt guilty about selling it for that much, the poor sucker that bought it will probably scrap it too!!!

Even without a manual, you'd almost have to know absolutely nothing about chorus (or any modulation effects) to not be able to figure it out. Unless of course, you simply can't read.

If you're looking for an analog chorus sound, this is not the pedal for you. It's digital, and as a result, is very digital and 'icey' sounding. Great if you like a digital sound, and would probably sound pretty nice on a digital synth. If you're looking for Robert Smith style chorus sounds, this pedal can do it and more. Can even emulate certain Small Clone sounds but obviously isn't necessarily meant to. I've read a lot of reviews stating that this pedal has a weak signal and is noisy... My CH-1 cuts through full gain very easily and doesn't add excessive gain to the signal on a clean low gain feed on any amp I've used it on thus far. Not noisy at all, unless you take into account that touching the strings and etcetera are processed along with the signal. No switch or jack noise though. Perhaps I got a good one out of a batch?
Overall, it isn't the greatest sounding chorus in existence, but for my taste (I tend to like digital chorus sounds), I am happy with it.

This thing, like all BOSS pedals, is built like a freaking tank. Definitely one of the reasons why they're tour staples I can assume. The only weak point would possibly be the knobs, but you'd have to do some pretty hard kicking at it to even break those. I'd definitely use it without a backup, although it eats batteries up, so if you can use an adapter, use one whenever possible.

I play an amalgam of many genres, and usually use this pedal in a situation to where I want whichever range to cut through a mix. It has pretty deep lows, ringing mids and icey highs. I have been playing for 20 years, own a 1978 Peavey T-60 and a 1997 Les Paul Custom. Sounds great on both guitars, but might be a little too jangly for a single coil setup. If it were stolen, I'd definitely be pissed, since I use it quite a bit, and would probably buy it again unless I found a pedal for the same price that I absolutely liked more. I love the color (fits the sound of the pedal), the icey digital sound, the build quality, compactness, and low noise. My favorite feature is the EQ, which brings in more or less of the high and low end respectively. My only major beef is that it eats batteries, even when turned off, if it's still plugged up. I did not compare it in-store to any other pedals, but I have used and owned quite a few chorus pedals in my time, and this one is one of the better ones I've owned and used. I wish it came with an adapter. It definitely helps me create music, since I've bought it most of my songs have at least one part in it that features the CH-1.

Takes a little time to figure out waht the nobs do. I don't know waht depth means but is makes the sound get swirlyer. The manual is no help it's all written in techspeak.

I use this with a vintage Cort Les Paul or a Hondo Telecaster into a Crate 10watt amp, and play leggato runs on the octavs. When I turn it on it's kind off noisey when all the nobs are up especialy the depth nob which makes the sound a lot swirlyer when I turn it down it sounds better. I want to raise the impedence of it so it matches my pickups more so I might mod it with a resistor on the imput jack, I do it to all my pedals it's a easy and a cheap mod to do that you never hear the big guys talk about because it takes their business away. I like tone I don't play a thousand notes a minute so my tone is important to me.

It's just like the other boss pedals I've used in the past I've used the ds-1, mz-1 and the cs-3. I'd use it without a backup but I'd probably bring another one just in case it doesn't work after the bar.

I've been playing for almost 18 years and this sounds like what I need except the depth nob makes it to swirly when it's up to high. If it were lost I'd probably spend a lot of time looking for it and then by something else like a dirt bike or something else. I wish it had some way to control the speed of the pulsing because when I play on the octavs it sounds kind of dirty like it is to slow. I mainly play Robotcore music like the band Eephus or Pore so this gives me a good tone for my guitars but it gets to swirly with the depth nob so I gues it gets a point or two taken away for that.
