nothing ground breaking, & even if u haven't used a delay before, it's very easy to figure out what all the knobs are for. the manual doesn't clarify the hold function much, but when u do what it says, u'll quickly understand what it's for.

Sound Quality : 9
i'll give it an 8 cuz 9 is reserved for what an eventide will. the dd-3 gives my solos depth. i like it better than analog cuz analog can't make my boss chorus CH-1 shimmer like the DD-3. it sounds like you're floating. also, analog adds noise , & most can't go past 300 m.s. & i like to have my delays at about 550. the hold function is so useful that i sometimes use it instead of overdubbing. the attack is noticeable, but i guess that has more to do w/ how loud i set it. the reverb i tried to get sounds a little clanky, but the blue lettering says'delay' not 'reverb'

Reliability : No Opinion
it's a boss

Overall Rating : 8
looking back, i wish i'd bought a boss dd-5 for the tap tempo, & the sample rate is high enough to sound CD quality (about 32K i believe it read it was). but it's harder to find a higher sample rate except on a multi-effects, & on those the sound quality decays the more effects u utilize on a particular patch. the dod is a little cheaper, & it's even got an led to show repeats but i'm very satisfiied w/ the boss.

Ease of Use : 9
Very simple! Minus one point because the HOLD function is kind of hard to use but if it is timed right it rules!

Sound Quality : 10
Sounds great sounds much better than the DD-5 by BOSS

Reliability : 10
BOSS is the most reliable!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with BOSS

Overall Rating : 10
A great pedal! If you need a digital delay and want a BOSS buy the DD-3 it sounds some much cleaner than the DD-5. GET IT!!!!!!!

Ease of Use : 8
Not hard at all, but getting the right balance with feedback and level takes some time

Sound Quality : 8
Adds very little noise, nothing noticeable while playing. Sampled sound is a little sterile but pretty good for digital. I prefer analog delay sounds now, but I will keep this and continue to use it for a more shimmering sound. The delay emphasizes attack a little too much for my taste, but this can be controlled.

Reliability : 10
A Boss.

Overall Rating : 9
I would buy it again. I like the time range and reliability. I don't like the attack sound on delays. I wish the level and feedback were more independent of each other. It's nice for adding space to clean sounds. A solid pedal.

Plug it in....

Sound Quality : 9
Slight buzz when enguaged, but I like the sound.

Reliability : 10
I got it from a friend free, and he had had it for a few years and it never messed up on him. I've had it for about two weeks and don't anticipate any problems.

Ease of Use : 9
It is easy with the Aria ProII solidbody I use. However, with my classical guitar fitted with a Shadow piezo pickup, I still can't tweak the DD-3 into giving me that 'concert hall reverb', but then maybe that's not what it's meant for ?

Sound Quality : 9
I like the sound I get with a long delay time (about 700ms), with a 1/4 level setting and 1/3 feedback: just right for putting some flavor into the fingerstyle electric jazz I play (I use NO other effects). However, trying shorter delay times with my classical guitar, I find that at the fastest settings the repeats sound almost metallic sometimes.

Reliability : 10
There is simply no question of this pedal ever failing me ! I would not think of a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Customer backup is not available in India, where I live. I don't think I'll ever need it for this unit, though.

Overall Rating : 10
I would buy another unit ASAP to use simultaneously on the same guitar with a different delay time. The only thing I cannot stand about this unit is the absolutely goofy screw-release for the battery compartment (I use the appropriate Boss adapter, by the way). I could use a level control for the overall signal: the one fitted is only for the delayed signal. If I replaced it, I would choose the DD-5 though. As far as making music goes: I refuse to play at all without it, even when doodling on the guitar to myself.

Ease of Use : 10
Well you just plug it in and then turn your amp up to "are you nuts" volume and off you go..........

Sound Quality : 10
It sounds excellent. Especially if you want that Verve-glimmering sound. That's my favourite, and you can get pretty good sebadoh-solos as well Just turn the feedback up to max, quite long delaytime and riff til yr fingers bleed.....

Reliability : 10
I once dropped it from a helicopter, and it sounded awesome when I played it later. So no need to take off those Dm's, just stomp it as hard as you can.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't dealt with them, but I've heard that the boss Boss is goodlooking

Overall Rating : 10
Yes i would, but maybe go for the DD5, cause it's got the reversething going, but DD3 is a killer of a bloody pedal.

to get a "sitar from hell" sound, set to lowest delay time (12.5ms) and crank the F.BACK.try it w/ longer D.TIME or higher E.LEVEL. also, try w/ unconnected plug in DIRECT OUT

Compaired to a rack it's like taking candy from a baby. I've programed mine with little stips of red tape representing my two favorite settings....slap back and long delay.

Sound Quality : 9
Great. It's not analog but it's fairly warm and has twice the time of a analog unit. no distortion, I'd recorwith it.

Reliability : 10
Never had a problam.

I've never talked to Boss

Overall Rating : 10
I love this thing. I've had a few over the years and I'll never give them up. I play for a living and these little guys are a corner stone of my sound.

I spent about a half hour in the store getting comfy with this pedal--not much time at all! I certainly would practice with it before taking it out on a gig. It quickly rewarded my efforts with excellent delay sounds. Much better than the old DOD that I had been using. I had wanted a Boss analog delay for that retro sound, but I have to say that the DD-3 sounds very good, without the overly metallic clang that I sometimes hear with digital effects. I haven't used the "hold" dial yet--it didn't seem to do anything when I twisted it, but I'll spend more time with it to figure it out. It is helpful to write down settings that you use, especially if you're going to make changes during a gig. Overall, I have to say that the sonic clarity of this pedal makes it very useful. I expect it'll be on a lot more than my DOD was.

Sound Quality : 10
Very quiet--I'm using it with either a Boss power supply or a larger (5 output) power supply made by Kaman Corporation.

Reliability : No Opinion
Too soon to tell, but I anticipate excellent reliability. And I will use it without a backup. (I can always live without delay when I gig).

Now that I own a DD-3, I realize that I would probably love a DD-5 with tap tempo. But I'm sure I'll continue to enjoy the DD-3. I've only really played through three delays, and this is by far my favorite. The search is over for now--time to play music!

Ease of Use : 9
Very easy to use. Each control does exactly what it is supposed to. The hold function is little bit too limited to be very useful however, otherwise a 10 would have been given for this catagory.

Sound Quality : 10
This pedal is damn near perfect. Extremely quiet and does a great delay. Can also be used to create an artificial reverb. It can be used as doubler for getting a fat lead sound. A very Hendrix-like sound (.ie Watchtower solo) can be obtained by feeding a Crybaby into it, and setting a long delay.

Reliability : 10
Have owned it for over two years. I would trust it anywhere, as I would trust all my Boss pedals. One word of warning is that it really draws a lot of battery current and gets noisy before the battery quits so a power supply would be a sound (no pun intended) decision.

Customer Support : No Opinion
n/a -- I don't ever expect to talk to Boss customer service. BTW: I was told that customer service for Boss products is done through the dealer it was purchased from.

Overall Rating : 10
Buy it again? -- In a minute Love about it? -- everything Comparison -- After getting this, I gave away my DOD analog delay
Overall --- Great Pedal
