Ease of Use : 10
Very easy to use, and with the tap tempo it's a complete no brainer. Guitarists playing live will get a lot of use out of that feature.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
I'd have to say this pedal sounds too good, and here's why. This pedal is very quiet and very hi-fi -- maybe too hi-fi. The upside of this is that it's really clean, and would compare well to rack stuff (if you're into that type of thing). The downside to it is that the repeats are very present and bright, so you can't get that attacky guitar sound followed by a swell of thicker repeats that you usually associate with stompboxes/analog/tape delays/U2/etc.. On the other hand, I wouldn't trade the tap tempo function for anything. One way to get around the brightness would be to run it off of an effects loop and separately EQ the repeats. My suggestion to effects companies: try putting a low-pass tone control for the effected half of the mix on your delays. That would totally do the trick, and then we could decide whether or not to use your crystal clear sampling rates...
I hate to complain about quality, and I think Boss is totally well intended. So the specs get a 10, but my personal satisfaction with the tone is about an 8.

Reliability : 8
It's built very well. My only concern, again based in techno-skepticism. It's a little different than other Boss pedals. A little bit fancy or something. When I first turned it on, I noticed that the light comes on but the effect is unavailable for about 4 seconds. This tells me that it's booting up or something, and if it can boot, then it can crash. I don't like the idea of that one bit. It makes me nervous. I mean, it's a stompbox.
You step on it.

Overall Rating : 9
I would totally buy it again. Tap tempo rules my world; it's fun and very useful. I wish it sounded warmer, but there are ways to get around that. I hope someone gets around to putting a tone control on a delay pedal some day. Guitarists who use delay live, get it now and get the tap tempo -- your band will thank you and your drummer will love you forever.

Easy. No menus!

Sound Quality : 9
It is very quiet. This pedal sounds great to me, but digital delay is a pretty straight forward effect with not much variability in the ones I have heard. I rated this a 9 because I am sure there are other brands that have a higher sample rate, although I don't know how much difference that would make.

Reliability : 10
Boss.

Overall Rating : 10
I bought this because I wanted a delay and I got it for a great price used. This pedal has many features like reverse delay, sample hold, and tap tempo. I find that I usually just use the straight forward delay, so if I could find the Reverb/Delay or Pitch Shifter/Delay for the same condition and price, I would probably get one of those.

This pedal is very intuitive. The manual is good. Minus one though because the HOLD mode is hard to time.

Sound Quality : 10
This sounds beautiful. It is awesome. The delay is fantastic. The reverse mode is interesting. It plays it forwards then backwards. The HOLD mode is really sweet if you can time it right. The stereo panning is cool too.

Reliability : 10
It's a BOSS. Made of metal. I would definitely be confident using this in a gig without a backup.

I've never dealt with BOSS or Roland.

Overall Rating : 10
I compared this against the BOSS DD-3, and for about $20 more, it was definitely worth it. You can do so much with it, reverb, delay and chorus. Also, if you set feedback to maximum and delay time to minimum in MODE 1, you can get a pseudo-flanger/phaser sound. It is great for solos. Also, since it has its own volume control, it can kind of boost your amp (a very little :)). I would definitely buy this again, but I'd never have to because its a BOSS, which means it will last forever :)

Easy to use. Pretty intuitive. The hold mode is difficult to time properly (i.e. getting the right segment into the machine.

Sound Quality : 10
Very quiet. I have been playing with it for three weeks and haven't found all the possibilities yet. The wet-dry control and regeneration are very useful and continuous in their ranges. This pedal has some very short delay times (down to 1 microsecond) that are very useful for creating phase effects. Some very nice tone notches are possible in by using the short delay settings.

Reliability : 9
This sucker eats batteries. In fairness, the owners manual tells you that up front. They recommend buying a power supply, which I am going to do the next time I go to the music store. Other than that I haven't had any trouble.

Overall Rating : 9
I am glad I bought it. It turns out that it does stuff that I hadn't anticipated -- particularly the short delay effects. I almost bought a DD-3 but am glad I spent the extra twenty five bucks. Any momentary connect switch will work with the input for tap tempos, I think. The Boss momentary switch cost me an additional 21 dollars and I think I could have gotten away with a two dollar switch from Radio Shack. Other band members were blown away by the new sounds this item permitted.

Extremely easy to use, same great clarity as other Boss digital delays. The ease of use goes beyond setting it up to the real-time delay time setting. It's now super simple to get that delay going at just the right tempo even during a song.
"Hold" mode is tough to make useful. Minus one for that.

Sound Quality : 10
Not noisy at all. Has about 37 modes (really about 10) that do everything from regular manual delay settings (up to 2sec.) to that neat but not so useful looping-sample "hold" mode to a new "reverse delay" that is, um, interesting.
The only modes I use are the tempo tap modes. Just tapping on a momentary switch 4 times sets up the delay tempo without drop-out or glitches. And there's 1/4 note, 1/8 note, dotted 1/8 note and 1/4 triplet modes. A definite must for the live guitarist!

Reliability : 10
As reliable as every other Boss pedal (i.e. extremely).

Customer Support : No Opinion
Duno. Never had to deal with them.

Overall Rating : 10
Can't say enough about the niche it fills for live players. One less thing to bend over and adjust. About time Boss did this. Now, a couple good verbs on it would make it paradise!
