well i have never owned one, nor do i want to right now. I had a DD-3 and I have a DM-2. I liked the DD-3 alot, and I would have kept it if I didn't have needed the money. I had been in a band that had a total of 2 DD-5s, and I do not think its as good as the DD-3. I think the DD-5 is a little to harsh in comparison to the DD-3. I also think that the DD-5 has alot of gimmicks that just aren't really important. I personally didn't even like the hold feature on the DD-3, because I think its a little hard to use. The Pan delay feature is a kewl idea, but I think the sound quality on the DD-3 is better. But I guess you sacrifice alot fo delay time for that extra tone. And I should know that now that I have a DM-2 (which I love, but can't compare because its analogue). The reverse feature is a kewl idea, but poorly done on this because you can't take the original signal out (which makes it sound a little cheesy).

i bought this pedel to replace my fried dd-3 after a dark gig and wrong adapter. i compare this pedal to rack mount delay. let me change that; over rack mount cause it took me around 10 min to master the thing.

I dress myself and graduated Grade 3 so this pedal is as easy as it gets. Forget the instruction book, though, just plug it in and go crazy.

I use an Ibanez Universe with a crate T672 Half-Stack. It sits in the chain with my Boss Metal Zone, Flanger, Phaser, Noise Suppressor and my Crybaby Wah. I couldn't ask for a better setup, The beauty of some of these combinations still suprises me, even though I've been playing with them for half a year. The Delayed sound is 100% of its original and the feedback option makes me need to change my diapers.

Definately a winner with any type of music, because I've had my styles change and I've picked up alot of different tunes that all have amazed me with this pedal. If this pedal were stolen, I would sprint to the guitar store for a new one...goodbye rent money. This pedal definately makes great music, and my gear would never be complete without it. Great deal for the price, Get one NOW!

Ibanez JS 1000 or Fender Strat+, Vox Wah, Boss Compressor/Sustainer, Groovetube trio preamp, Groovetube Soul-o-Slave Poweramp and Marshall 1922 Box.
My favourite setting is the tap delay: Your Delay is always in time then.
There's no noise at all.

Squire strat, zoom 505, Big Mugg, Hyper Fuzz, DD-5, crybaby, sound city SC-50 amp. No external noise, and the wah makes it sound unbelievable, especially if the feedback is turned right up: very MBV.
The shorter delays can make some really cool sounds, especially if your guitar tends to sound poor on its own..

Post*rock brilliance. Turn feedback up, add hyper fuzz, and go. Anyone can play any style with this so if you sound like Sigur Ros (like me) or U2 you can use it to be more creative, serendipidous, and downright post*rock.

Fairly simple. The 11 different modes have been covered by others. Easy to get the basic delay sounds you want; however, the sample mode does take some practice to use effectively. But other than that there were no hangups for me. Have not tried the tap tempo yet. It's a box, you step on it, it delays.

I use a G&L ASAT with a Fender DeVille. I does not make any unwanted noise at all. I also have an Ibanez AD99 Analog delay. I like them both for different reasons. Digital delay and analog delay are really completely different effects. The DD-5 replicates the signal of your guitar exactly, and I like the way my G&L sounds, so I don't mind hearing it again. The analog delay gives you back a dark interpretation you signal, I like that too. The DD-5 works MUCH BETTER in live situations. The analog is used in the studio sometimes, and at home. My DD-5 sees much more time than my analog unit. If you have a good sounding guitar and amp, this pedal will sound great. I listen to alot of U2, so I have a rather high standard for delay,LOL, and I can rip off the Edge fairly well, although a EH deluxe memory man really sounds like the Edge. It does tend to place some drag on the signal when it's off, but to offset this, the DD-5 fades out when you turn it off, rather than cutting off abruptly, which I REALLY like. This pedal is very high fi, as one would expect with a digital unit that doea what it's supposed to.
Everybody knows it's on, hehe. The hardcore analog freak might not like this pedal, but as I stated before, analog delay is just a different effect entirely. The reverse mode I've never found to be very exciting, but it's fun to play around with. Try this, put it on mode 4 and turn up the feedback and delay time all the way and play a bunch of different licks. IT SOUND LIKE SONIC MAYHEM!!! All of you licks will be played over and over again. But I usually tune the level up half way, the delay time about 40%-60%, the feedback about 50%, and mode on 3. doesn't do some of the stuff an analog does, duh, but an analog can't do the thing the DD-5 does. I enjoy the sound of a good digital delay, and this is a good one. Believe me, I've heard some really bad digital delays. I also use a coloursound WAH-WAH, a mesa boogie V-twin, and an EH Bass Balls (when it works, which is rare) Sounds best to my ears when it's last in the chain. Oh yeah, if you buy this pedal and are planning to use batteries, E-mail me so I can go buy some Duracell stock!!!!!!

I'm using this whith a PRS Swamp Ash Special, Mesa Boogie Heartbreaker, I also use a Marshall Supervibe, and a Cry Baby Wah. The delay sounds great with little or no noise at all. I think this baby does a great job. The tap tempo function is a newly discovered kick ass feature for me. I have had this pedal for like 3 years and never used it except for basic delay. You gotta use the switch it's like night and day. you can change the delay speed for different solos midstream. I figured out how to use it in under 10 minutes. As for the switch I built one using Radio Scrap parts for 8 bucks, and it took me less than a 1/2 an hour.

Overall this pedal is great. If it were stolen I'd gun the dude down and peel it from his bleeding hands. I play all kinds of music and this thing has never let me down. It eats batteries like the energizer bunny on steroids. If you gig with it using batteries plan on at least one per set. Get (build) the tempo switch it rocks. I actually got mine for free. Bought it with a digital metalizer and returned that piece of crap and teh clerk refunded me the price of both pedals. Long live pawn shop crack heads.
Radio Shack part numbers for the tempo switch
2701801 Project box 1.99
2740252 Open circut jack (1/4" Female)1.99
2750609 Momentary switch 2.79
6402346 Rubber Feet 1.19
A little solder, some left over speaker wire and you got a switch. FOr less than 10 bucks including uncle sams share to waste on some useless government project, you'll be rockin!

Fairly easy to use. Anything with a lot of options can be confusing to an extent. All i can say is when you find a setting that works for you sketch it down or something. A non-latching footswitch makes things a little easier to dial in the time too. Get one!

The sound quality is the best out of any echo unit I have ever tried! And I tried them all looking for the best! On all settings it is quiet, no hum, and seriously, just great. I can't say enough about this so maybe I'll just say it's the best. I use it with a boss super phaser, a crybaby, a danelctro daddy-o, and a crate GFX-120. It sounds shitty with tha amp distortion (because I hate the amp and everything does) but when used with the danelctro it sounds great. I've also used a boss metalzone on occasions and it sounds awesome with that.

I love all the options this pedal gives me. The reverse echo is especially cool. Buy this pedal if you use echo lots. If echo is something you can do without definitly save your cash and buy something cheaper, but if you absolutally need echo, you need this!

I''m playing an electric fiddle, if anyone else is, I'm using a Barbera five-string bridge. I patch through the DD-5, then into an Alesis Nanoverb for ambiance, then into an L.R. Baggs Para Acoustic(which by the way, is pure gold for any acoustic player,) into a solid-state acoustic amp. I've never heard any noise whatsoever. My setup is pretty quiet, and the Nanoverb is the loudest thing out of the whole chain. There's no hi-cut control like on the Dano's, but that's no biggie for me. I highly recommend getting a cheap unlatching pedal for the tap delay(you can get them for like ten bucks at a keyboard shop.) The tap delay is the one I use the most. It adds a great, lush echo to solos. I love U2, and I can get that type of sound from this. The one I haven't used at all is the reverse mode, where Boss tried to make a reverse echo-type deal that doesn't sound all that great. The hold mode is nice, since I can play a two-second loop, and solo over top of it, and practice with some backup. I also use it in mode 2, with short delay, and put over chorus and reverb to get a real thick, ensemble sound.

You've heard it before...
All I can say is, definitely get a power adapter for this thing. I went through three batteries after using the thing maybe five times. If you don't have an AC adapter, unplug all your cables after you're done playing.

If I lost this, I'd probably get another one, just because it's got everything I need in a delay, and not (too)much more. I've had mine for about two months, using it every time I get on stage, and it doesn't get in the way of the rest of the band, although that's up to the person using it. Once again-GET THE AC ADAPTER!!!
