Ease of Use : 9
The operation is very simple with four knobs Volume, Tone, Distortion & Overtone. I bought it brand new probably in 1985 from England.

Sound Quality : 9
The quality of distortion is similar with Boss DS-1 which is great for smooth and rich distortion sound. The unique feature is the Overtone knob which gives you a different pitch to your feedback sound when the DF-2 pedal is pressed continously and quickly. The feedback feature & sound is impressive but it is not fully identical to the original feedback sound from a overdriven amp but still it is fun to play with the Distortion with Feedbacker pedal. This pedal has been discountinued and if you are interested to buy then you have to look around to second hand shops. The feedback effect is not weak and can be heard easily. However I perfer to set the Overtone knob beyond netural setting due to more prominent feedback sound. With the use of this pedal one has to take care to only pick a single note correctly to get tuned feedback sound otherwise it will sound blurred. It does not sound feedback properly by playing two notes at the same time and same is the case with chords. I think the feedback sound should have been a little more bright and it seems a little muddy.

Reliability : 9
No problem with this pedal for the last 23 years but its knobs do make scratchy sound and here I must say that Boss should do something to recfity this problem from all their pedals. I have got a couple of old Ibanez pedals from their 9 series which are more than 25 years old and there is no noise whatsoever from their knobs.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had a chance to deal with Boss.

Overall Rating : 9
Overall this is an excellent pedal and a great collection for any guitarist. I have got lot of Boss pedals and couple from Ibanez, MXR, Zoom, Danelectro. If this pedal is stolen I would become upset but would not try to buy it again because I do not use its feedback effect as often as I used to be. My favorite feature is the smooth & rich distortion which I get from this pedal. I choose this pedal about 23 years ago because it was a new pedal from Boss and I was trying to explore something new out of my guitar. As I said earlier that I only wish that it should have a more bright feedback sound.

Very easy 4 knobs. Level, Tone, Distortion and Overtone

Sound Quality : 9
Mine is early model Super Distortion and Feedbacker. I've compared with Silverscrew DS-1, and yes, it's sounds like that pedal. Feedback is quite amazing but not as real as traditional feedback because of the ending (after you release the pedal). I like this pedal for the extra feature.

Reliability : 10
BOSS. What else can I say.

This pedal is a DS-1 with extra feature. I will keep it because of it is rare! Another same pedal Super Feedbacker and Distortion, you can easily find anywhere, but not Super Distortion and Feedbacker.

Straightforward on how to use--4 simple dials--3 for distortion & 1 for feedback

Sound Quality : 10
I love this distortion sound, it's versatile and works well with different guitars and both single coils & humbuckers

Reliability : 10
I've neevr had any problems with any Boss pedal.

Never needed it, the thing keeps on ticking.

Overall Rating : 10
I love it and use it with the slightest reason--it can go soft fuzz or sharp edge.

Ease of Use : 10
just got this pedal tonight, and already it has found a place in my board. it is just like a DS-1, which happens to be my main distortion, and it is as simple as dialing in your fav DS-1 sound and perhaps stepping on it for some feedback.
i didn't get a manual with it, but it's okay because you can simply download one if you need it from roland.com.. not that you'd need it..

Sound Quality : 10
mine dates from 1988, and i found this out by going to www.bossarea.com and checking the serial number. this means that it's an older japan model, and retains the original DS-1 sound, before they moved production to taiwan. you can basically nail any sound of any artist who uses the DS-1, such as Vai, Satriani, joe perry, kurt cobain, etc. the distortion is some of the smoothest i've heard, and it is a very dynamic pedal, responding amazingly well to your pick attack.
it is not noisy at all, and i am using it with a marshall 100 watt RMS half stack.

Reliability : 8
i've only had it 5 hours, and it's beat to hell and back, but it's working. it is built very sturdily. i could use it without a backup, but i could also use it to backup my DS-1, since it appears to be the same circuit.

Customer Support : No Opinion
from what i've heard, its very poor.. i've never had to deal with them though, so i have no opinion personally.

Overall Rating : 9
i play rock, true heavy metal from the 80's, and a myriad of things such as acoustic rock and jazz. i'm developing my shredding techniques, but i'm also developing my softer side as a guitarist. i've been playing since grade 7 and i'm graduating highschool this year. if this pedal were lost or stolen, i'd be really angry because its literally irreplaceable. i have the older " super distortion and feedbacker" and not the " super feedbacker and distortion".
besides this, i own a boss ds'1, bluesdriver, hyperfuzz, metalzone, the new flanger, chorus ensemble, dd3 delay, crybaby, and compressor. i play a Gibson SG through a marhall halfstack.

in closing, this is an amazing pedal and i suggest you never sell it. like i said, you can go to www.bossarea.com to find out how old ANY of your pedals are, among other things, such as settings and text.
happy plectrum polishing.

Ease of Use : 10
Simple to use, a little harder to get a usable sound out of it (hint: hook a tuner up to it and you can tune the feedback). Otherwise, identical to a DS-1 - except this looks and sounds way cooler.

Sound Quality : 10
Mine has been modded twice, but it creates great sounds even without mods. The feedback is very convincing and reacts well to all four knobs. I tend to keep the distortion at 0 and the tone at a neutral setting so I can just use the feedback function by itself, but if you activate the feedback and start tweaking knobs, you'll eventually get your sound quite easily.

Reliability : 10
Boss.

No longer made.

Overall Rating : 10
An outstanding pedal IF you know what to do with it and IF you have a place for it in your music. Otherwise, don't bother, as you'll invariably end up slamming a good product.

Ease of Use : 8
very easy.. though when i acquired this pedal second hand for free i knew nothing about it and it took a few years for me to learn you could depress it and have it feedback at u! i thought it was just a fancy name.. no manual on mine, very easy to use.

Sound Quality : 8
hmm. i do like this as a straight up distortion pedal when the tone is up.. sounds too muffled and flat otherwise.. Gotta say with all the hype and what these go for on ebay, i dont really dig the feedback feature. on high notes it seems to work better but often i get feedback that doesnt really sound natural or can be way off tune. but i like it. i tend not to use this with too much else, because other effects with this can throw off the feedback as well, but with a BOSS supershifter i get some interesting things..

Reliability : 6
in terms of ware this thing has been abused and knobs are missing and it still works perfect. its boss. its a tank. BUT, i wouldnt use it for gigging with the feedbacker>> too unreliable. sometimes it works really well and i have feedback coming at me in tune then suddenly it will throw one back at me thats totally off and it will sound really false and off tune and embarrasing if youre live..

Customer Support : No Opinion
no idea.

Overall Rating : 6
i like some experimental noise or ambient rock... or just plain ambient. i like bringing this through an eq and cranking it up and getting all these little microtones from it. im selling it as im writing this, so if it gets lost it would suck because i want money for it. i love boss pedals period, especially these semi rare ones.. but i just dont use it enough to keep it right now, and theyre floating everywhere so i figure ill get one again at some point if i have the money and influence. i cant really compare this to anything except a distortion and ebow used together. i have composed some things with it, but not with the feedback. i prefer real feedback thanks!

this is a much-misunderstood pedal, for no good reason. it's a great distortion pedal that, when leaned on, becomes a nice little oscillator/e-bow type thing. hit note, lean on pedal, sorted. :o)

personally i'd give it 10, but i'm giving it an 8 cos i know some spooners out there can't use both hands and feet at the same time. Ah, the wonders of being an ex-drummer...

Sound Quality : 9
it's a great distortion pedal, first and foremost. could be a wee bit louder, but i can always turn the amp up. and trust me, i do. i tend to use it on 12 o' clock - 11 o'clock 17 o'clock - 15 o' clock. but it's a moveable feast, so this changes constantly (even whilst playing onstage sometimes).

if it was good enough for a certain mr cobain to use sometimes, i have no problems.

i use it through a Hartke piggyback. i love that amp (sigh).

Reliability : No Opinion
i've never had a problem yet, and it IS a boss, even if it's 20 years old. it's probably more stable onstage than i am...

although as i've said in other reviews, he who goes onstage with one distortion pedal is a jackass.
actually i'm pretty sure i said it about guitars, but whatever. same rule applies.

Customer Support : 9
it was prolly fifth-hand when i got it, so maybe the warranty's not too good. if it broke, i'd get it fixed. simple.

Overall Rating : 10
i play mainly noisy rock and roll versions of '60s girl group/early hard rock/pussy metal covers with a punk/metal sense of irony and noise, and this pedal works out just fine.
i've been playing for about 12yrs now, and my set-up (as of yesterday) is

one of these
squier custom II (the P90 0ne)/squier affinity tele/Alden XG (seriously, check out Ebay UK, they rule)/MIJ jaguar (ooh, he pretty)/westfield les paul/stagg 300 white flacon copy/JSL les paul junior (always tuned open)

into these

Behringer hellbabe wah pedal/danelectro black liquorice beyond metal distortion/BOSS DF-2/(sometimes boss turbo distortion)/behringer UC-100/behringer ut-100.

out of this

Hartke Piggyback 60W mini-stack

works just fine for me. i enjoy the instant feedback on demand thing, and lets be honest, not many people can tell if it's real or not halfway through a loud gig, can they? apart from us, and we're special... hehehehe
it helps me and my sound a lot, and if it got stolen, i'd kick ass, use the 'thief proof water' we (allegedly) have in Nottingham, track the mofo down and steal it back. after giving him (or her) a jolly good pounding and a lecture on not messing with a guitarist's stuff. ever.

Distortion: 9/10. It's a quality boss tone (in my opinion). There's some literature floating round saying that it is just a DS-1 with the feedbacker circuit. I have a silver screw DS-1 and have owned MIT versions etc and it doesn't sound a bit like any of those. But it has a cool tone anyway.

The feedbacker is hard to master, but it may be that it just shows the inadequacies in my technioque. It is difficult to really master the technique of the feedback but I think that Boss have made it is easy as possible in a pedal of this format.

One annoying thing is that when you are just using it as distortion, you have to be really when you're switching it off or it interprets prolonged foot action as wanted to engage the feedbacker.

Fenders strat/cyclone/Lead 1, G&L Tribute tele etc through: LS-2, Roland AD-50 fuzz wah, AW-2, ODB-3, DF-2, DS-1, Carl Martin tremolo, Yamaha flanger, MXR Phase 45, DSD-2, GE-7 to a Roland Jazz Chorus JC-120, Fender Harvard or Super 210 tube amp. Awesome tone- like I said, very different to a DS-1 but a good tone in its own right. No noisier than any other gain pedal. The only reason I'm giving it a 9 is that I have an ebow, which does sound better.

Reliability : 10
Boss...

Boss...

There is a flip-side to having products as good as Boss...

Overall Rating : 9
We play indie-pop-ish and the gravelly distortion suits our sound perfectly. It is a novel idea, pretty well executed. I have an ebow which definitely sounds better but is nowhere near as convenient.

It's a simple distortion pedal with level, tone and distortion knobs. The only unique thing is it has an "overtone" knob which controls the level of feedback that you get. Engage the feedback feature by stepping and holding down on the pedal. Mine is made in japan. Probably around 15-20 years old.

Sound Quality : 7
This is my "secret weapon" pedal. I don't use it as a distortion pedal per se. In fact I probably use it less than 3 times at any one gig. I like what it can do - nice controlled feedback. A previous reviewer mentioned that the feedback sounds artificial. While amp feedback does sound more natural, the df-2 will allow you more control in terms of pitch and volume. I like it when the feedback from the df-2 pushes my amp to feedback.

Today I decided to fiddle around with it to hear what it sounds like on its own. The sounds are actually quite decent. Used with a nice clean tube amp I can get reasonable tones. Then again if you're using a good amp it's hard to imagine why you would want to use this as your main sound.

One thing I don't like is when you engage the feedback function you won't be able to play over the feedback (like if you were using a looper/sampler). You will get a dirty sounding tone which has no sustain at all.

But overall I still like the pedal.

Reliability : 10
It's at out of production of pedal but still going strong despite its age. I think many musicians will agree that Boss pedals are generally quite sound.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
It's not a must have. If I lost it I'd probably try to get another one but wouldn't be particularly upset if i can't get a replacement. I use it quite sparingly anyway.

This thing is pretty easy to use. Only four knobs: Level, Tone, Distortion and Feedback. "Dialing in" a sound is also very easy. I can't comment on the manual, because I don't have it any more and I don't remember it. My DF-2 has not been upgraded.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a Samick guitar and a VOX Pathfinder 10 amplifier with this effect unit. The sound is very charismatic, crisp and fuzzy at the same time. Hard to explain. It sound very good, but does not suit all kinds of music. It's best for punk, indie and grunge/rock. Not so useful for blues and metal. It's actually a bit too bright and fuzzy for my playing style, but that's ok. It's a unit that you will either love or hate.

Reliability : 10
I bought this in 1989 and it still works!

Overall? Listen before you buy. It may be perfect for you, or it may not. I'm very impressed about the reliability of this thing. Makes me want to go out and buy a Boss Blues Driver BD-2!

Overall, I like the fuzzy, bright yet warm tones coming out of the DF-2. It just does not suit my playing style :-(
