Ease of Use : 10
Total of 3 adjustments which consists of a repeat, echo, and intensity. Pretty self-explanatory!

Sound Quality : 9
Excellent analog without much hiss. Much warmer and smoother than the Boss digital delays. This box has everything you would ever need in a analog delay. If you find one, buy a power supply because this little guy really eats batteries.

Reliability : 10
Never had a Boss product fail yet.

Never had to deal with Boss/Roland

If you have been thinking about buying the new Dan-Electro "Dan-Echo" pedal, do yourself a favor and try to find either a Boss DM-2 or DM-3 delay.

3 knobs - "repeat rate" is the delay time - increases clockwise; "echo" is the wet/dry mix, clockwise to wetter; "intensity" controls the number of repeats (what I call feedback). Real easy to grok.

Sound Quality : 10
Not noisy at all. Repeats sound warm and decay naturally. Yeah for analog!

Reliability : 9
Sure a lot of these around ten years after being discontinued. I actually use this box for a backup to my DM-3, which isn't in as good a shape

BOSS warrants parts for 5 years. Never known anyone who ever made a warranty claim.

The DM-2 sounds great! Because analog delays are limited to short (200ms?) delays, I also have a digital in my chain, which makes me cringe when i hear it next to the analog delays.

This early 80s analog delay has just 3 knobs: Volume, delay and mix, which I find appropriate for a delay STOMP box. The only reason one would need a tone control is to 'warm up' the delay signal. Since this is analog, the highs are already rolled off.

Sound Quality : 8
There's a bit of hiss, but it's dark. Only about a quarter second delay. Best used for slap back or doubler type effects. Easy to get the usual surf and rockabilly sounds, and with an overdrive and/or fuzzbox one can approximate Cramps and Birthday Party sounds.

Reliability : 8
Pretty sturdy. Had it for over 10 years. Loaned out to countless unsavory type musicians (redundant, I know). Sucks batteries, though.

Never had to deal with company. I've never had a problem with anything Boss, boss.

When I lived with housemates this was a popular household item. When they were bored and/or drugged out, my housemates would hook up the boss dm-2 to the TV set and watch an entire episode of 'I, Claudius' with slap back dialogue.

Very easy to use. Repeat Rate, Echo and Intensity knobs. That's it! It has a check light so you can tell its on before you start playing. You can't lose the attached battery door. It is painted an ugly purple. With low settings you can get a great, slappy rockabilly sound. Midway gets something similar to the bass in Pink Floyd's "One of these Days I'm going to Cut you into Little Pieces." Full out gets a horrid noise that will practically drive you crazy. Bought it used, but who needs a manual.

Sound Quality : 9
Not real noisy. But if you turn all the controls up it seems to generate its own recycling psycho blitz. Can't beat it for rockabilly. Gives an accebtible surf sound too. If you're into vintage, toss the digital stuff and get one of these.

Reliability : 10
It was pretty beat when I got it and it keeps on tickin' away. It hasn't failed me yet. Metal tank-like case.

Never had to try to call the company.

I replaced one that my brother "had to have" with an identicle unit. The DM-3 model has an extra output jack labeled "Direct Out." Whatever that does. Joe Biaza of "Universal Congress Of" uses one.
