I'm playing a gretsch tennesse rose and a guild S100 through a musicman RP100 amp. the amp itself has nice reverb but not quite enough for me.
with the FRV-1 you have control over the length, brightness and intensity of the verb. nice rich sound. awesome for dub/reggae, blues, just about anything really.

it's a guitar pedal, you're supposed to step on the darn things!

I play rock n' roll, blues, ska/dub/reggae. it can be used subtly or drastically. in my opinion it's the best reverb pedal out there (and newest). I had a EH holy grail. didn't love it. the sound was too bright and there was no parameter controls. it's great for festivals or situations where you're not sure what kind of amp/verb will be available. Finally an awesome stand alone reverb pedal!
best verb pedal I've heard yet, hands down.

Easy to use.
Three knobs:
- Dwell controls the amount of signal sent to the "springs"
- Tone controls the brightness
- Mix controls the mix of the dry and reverberated signal at the output

This pedal emulates the Fender spring reverb sound. If you want other types of reverb sounds, look elsewhere.
I plugged it into my Fender Twin Reverb amp so I could do a side-by-side comparison to the amp's reverb. I could dial the pedal in to sound pretty much identical to the amp's reverb. I think the amp's reverb sounded a little better, but I don't know how to express the difference. Perhaps the amp's reverb was a little warmer? I probably wouldn't notice the difference if I wasn't doing a side-by-side comparison.
I actually bought it for use with my Marshall 6100LM amp that doesn't have reverb. The Marshall has an effects loop that can be run as either a serial or parallel loop. The pedal has a "honky" tone when used in the amp's parallel loop mode. Perhaps when used in a parallel loop, I should turn the mix knob on the pedal all the way up to get a mostly wet sound and control the wet/dry mix on the amp instead. So the problem may be user error, but I thought I'd mention it anyways.
Caveats:
- I've only owned the pedal for a day
- I've haven't gigged with it yet
- When I use reverb, I use very little unless I'm "surfing".

I bought the pedal to use with my non-reverb Marshall. I bought this reverb pedal over others because, to me, Fender reverb is the standard against which all others are measured. But I'm beginning to think that it may not be a good match for the Marshall distortion sound. I think I'll explore using other reverbs that aren't trying to emulate the spring reverb sound.
