Absolutely, no time at all.
It works perfectly.
It's three pedals in one. Very deceptive and powerful little thing!
An envelope follower, a lowpass filter and a wah.
Where will you go today...?

Sound Quality : 10
Its the sweetest wah in my set up.
I use the EV-5 pedal and it just sounds so sweet, its kinda emotional.
Pedal input to move the notch around. So your not stuck with just the fixed envelope filter.
Hard to be emotional and intimate on a wah without sounding comical. This is not like that.
The envelope is completely adjustable and easy to set up for gtr, bass and clavinet.
I went DI with gtr and it didn't need the amp. Thats a good sign when using fx in a studio.
Also as a filter for changing the character of an instrument, its perfect.

Reliability : 10
it's Boss, that stuff is meant to be forever.

Well, it's Boss, who needs service?

These things stopped being made in the 90s.
People, apparently, didn't 'get it'.
Got mine on eBay.
It's low price high quality piece.
People still don't 'get it'.
If you want to see if it's worth getting, just grab one. If you don't like you will sell it.
I got mine in pristine condition (owner didn't 'get it'.)

Mine came second hand so no manual but as long as you have a vague idea of auto wahs your fine, even if you dont its not hard to fiddle and find out what does what. Each knob clearly labled.

Sound Quality : 7
Running this from my iceman with EMG H4 in the bridge through my boss ME-50 into a Fender ROC-PRO. No noise from mine whatsover. The autowah effect is a little weak at certain setting but since I bought it as an adjustable wah (has an expression pedal jack) I dont mind.

It's a Boss. Nuff said. You could run over it kick it and still gig with it that night.

Quite a good pedal for a wah. Autowah is still good but not the best option especially considering how hard they are to find.

BEWARE buying this pedal. It uses a specific adaptor creator by Boss (not sure model). It will not work correctly with the newr models. The best way to use this is to power it with other pedals in a dasiy chain. Read this on the net and vaguely understand but cant really explain.

Iv'e owned a lot of auto filters since the 70's, so I'm not going to BS you.The auto filter sounds are just Ok. It's no match for an AF-9 or even the T-wah.There's not as much sensitivity, punch or range to it.

It has an expression pedal jack. But whats the point?? An auto filter is an automatic Wah pedal anyway. You might as well use a real Wah pedal. But I guess Boss was trying to make this pedal more versitile. But it's redundancy is probably why they discontinued them.

It was sturdy while I had it.

In the world of auto filters, the FT-2 is in the middle of the pack. A T-wah would be a better choice,if you ask me.Don't get me wrong, the FT-2 is'nt terrible, but the others are much better.I have a lot of experience with auto filters, since I'm from that era. IMO the FT-2 is just ok. I wouldn't pay more that $75.00 for it.

If you understand the concept of an envelope follower it's easy. If you're asking " what is an envelope follower? " it might take you longer than a dirt box to figure out.

A wah is a band-pass filter. This is a low pass filter. It's not really an auto-wah.

You can get most of the sounds of the moogerfooger filter pedal with this and it's 80% smaller. I like to use it with the roland expression pedal to get synth like tones.

I don't play funk. You don't have to be into funk or hippie music to get cool sounds with it.

This is a very rare and great sounding japanese boss pedal.

I think it is thier only dedicated low pass filter pedal. Makes my vox organ sound like a synth. More rare than the pn-2 or slow gear for that matter. About as rare as the vb-2. It should be an expensive collectors item and it isn't yet so get one now i guess.

It is my understanding that jerry garcia used this for many years. That doesn't mean anything to me but maybe it's interesting to somebody.

I have not bought this thing yet, I know someone who is not using it, he just needs some more persuasion to sell it to me. I'm getting there! If not, I have no other option than to kill him.

I only play Boss pedals, because they understand me. I am not the kind of guy that takes his time to adjust to the device, the device has to adjust to me.

I also like weird stuff. I want to use things that people cast aside. Or use stuff the way it is not supposed to be used. I play mostly Peavey guitars and feel like I'm the only one in the Netherlands that does so. I do not play a tube amp, which seems to be blasphemy here. I just can't seem to keep tubes in one piece, like watches, they just stop after a few months.

The filter is just another weird item in my weird world. And don't listen to anyon that refers to this pedal as a `wah` it is none such thing. It is a FILTER, use it accordingly.

Be prepared to play around with the controls. From my experience, your results will vary depending on what equipment you're using.

Sound Quality : 10
I've had this pedal for 4-5 years now, but only really found the magic a few days ago. Here's a big tip for any disgruntled users out there: I placed a Danelectro Surf and Turf compressor in forn of the FT-2. Ever had a bad head cold where your head's all stuffed? Then you take some kind of medication which clears up the blocked feeling? Well, that's what the Surf and Turf did! The FT-2 was extremely responsive and the filter effects were deep and powerful.

Basically, you simply play around with the FT's controls until you get the amount of "Quack" you want. After that, let your fingers do the talking! If I strum softly, I get a wonderful plastic elastic gurgle. If I want some funky filter wah, I just hit harder. It's like having a wah which is controlled by your picking hand instead of your feet.

Reliability : 10
I have at least 35 different BOSS pedals. I've been buying BOSS pedals since 1984. The pedals I bought in '84 were new and they work to this day. So now I generally buy used BOSS pedals. Reliable? I wish people could be this reliable.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had the need to contact BOSS.

What can I say? If you like wacky filter effects, this pedal fits the bill. I love how the level of effect reflects my picking. It's a very organic way to make music. Because I'm such a gear hound, I wanted to check out other filter pedals, but now I can't justify spending the money.

I do wonder why BOSS discontinued this pedal so quickly. This company has a habit of killing their more innovative pedals. Would I buy it again? I found mine through a fluke, I may never find another unless I'm ready to pay through the nose.

I bought one used (of course) with a Morley Voulme pedal. I was a bit hesitant, but after reading all the reviews here I got somewhat excited about checking it out. Originally I planned to buy a regular - but a good quality wah pedal...but as soon as I played a note on the FT-2 I was very pleased and bought it after 30 minutes fiddlig around :)

Sound Quality : 9
I use an Ibanez Artore AF-75T (red) jazz model with a cheap Peavey 25Watt practice amp. It instantly gave me that "quack" I was looking for (not too harsh and corny but just right). I don't have to concentrate on working with the foot on the wah, but I can always switch it to "manual" - and off I go! This pedal is intuitive on it's own.
It took me about an hour to get to know it a bit and after having it for a week here I'm just beginning to understand the philosophy of the mighty FT-2.
My connection is as follows: Ibanez guitar-->FT-2-->RAT Deucetone-->Boss TR-2-->Boss DD-6-->Peavey amp (for now anyway ;)

I'm about to put a Seymour-Duncan JB humbacker in my red babe, so it looks as if I'll be quacking away for weeks to come!
I didn't find any loss of signal with the FT-2 whatsoever, but as a complete NUB I still lose a bit of the clarity on the high end of the sound. I'm sure I'll figure it out soon...maybe getting an EQ pedal right after it to "even-out" the sound would do the job. I also found that it's better to put it before Your distortion pedal as the sound level is more constant. Normally I use it on the "up" mode.
I'd always thought that I needed to search for that "holy clean sound of sounds", but now I know that analog "fuss" is a much desirable thing on Your sound than all those phoney digital effects out there today. So if anybody complains about some little hiss, then You know that they are searching for guitar soung utopia. This pedal is very clean compared to a million wah pedals that really piss us off after about a year of use.

It's a Boss...what do You expect me to say? Love it! It'd probably be the only thing that I'd take with me on a deserted island :D

I play blues, post-rock, experimental and sometimes a bit o'reggae . Was into electronic music in the beggining but now I'm shifting more towards real live playing (machines are just too much of a hustle to program etc). I could find a million uses for the FT-2 with any instrument-must try it on vocals, trumpet, anything!!! I also love the fact that I don't have a normal wah pedal. It's great value for the money spent. Original and mysterious. If You have a chance, just buy one blinfolded ;) You'll be inspired. It gives me just the right "quack". My playing is much more interesting now and the FT-2 inspires some nu riffs.
I LUUV IT! I'm looking forward to testing it on a proper, loud amp. Sure to give my buddies the gooooosebumps!

I use this pedal on electric guitar. If you are "into" auto wah / filter tones then this is a must have pedal. Mine has a great musical sound. You can play it "laid back" all the way to "in your face". Havent tried a mutron yet but have been through the gambit of the typical over the counter offerings. Boss, DOD, Univox, EH, Ibanez pedals to name a few. This pedal is happening!

This is just an update from a previous review (Kawku-Baa). Have had the pedal for almost a year, but hadn't been using it for a while (although I loved the sounds I could get from it. I started using it again, and really began to realise just how important it is to use your amp and guitar volume levels correctly with this pedal. I now get a vastly improved amount of diferent tones out of it than ever before - in both up and down modes, which sound fantastic on ANY pickup.

This discovery (for me) has stopped me from buying a different envelope filter for different sounds. I think the reason some owners were disappointed with this unit was that they were not setting their amp/guitar levels correctly, and could only get a fairly comical and not particularly useable"quack" from it. The cut off frequency function is the key when using it in conjunction with the high and low pass filters (up/down) - turn the cut-off freq knob down to lower levels when using 'down' function - you get a reverse sound from the 'up' function. In this mode, play a chord and listen to the filter go up through a harmonic series and it sounds as if the chord is blooming out. Amazing. But once you get the volume level thing sussed, you will find that all the functions are very interactive indeed and NOT as super-sensitive as some reviews say it is e.g. lose your settings and the sound will be very hard to find again. I have found this to be no longer the case now; it is possible to sweep the controls and find something excellent anywhere. I also understand the ft-2 sounds brilliant with keyboards - checking this out this week!

Nice and fun pedal to use just keep twiddling the knobs to find your sounds. Bought used without a manual but you really don't need one for this pedal. I use it with bass and it is great for 'funking', there are three modes 1) down- which is quite good 2) up-well good and 3)Exp- for plugging in an expression pedal which I tried in an attempt to get some kind of wah thing going but to be honest this didn't really do it for me. It took a lot of tweaking to get any kind of wah wah effect and it sounded a bit lame, maybe it was to do with my own set up as everyones is different but I think this pedal sounds best just doing its filter thing to get real funky quack sounds. I have recently bought a Morley Dual Bass Wah (about to add delay to shutoff) which covers the Wah Wah very well so between the two pedals it's 'funk city'

Sound Quality : 8
I use this pedal with a few other Boss pedals an Ibanez phasertone and the Morley Dual Bass Wah. I utilise various Bass cabs and amps including Peavey, Smartlight and Joe Meek. The pedal doesn't seem to add any noise to the signal chain and the output remains constant whether the effect is on or off -something that as a bass player I like.

Reliability : 9
It is well used but has never faltered, it is a solid bit of kit.

Not immediately easy set-and-play stuff. This pedal wants you to tweak it and discover for yourself just how amazing it sounds. Mine came with box and manual and in amazing nick. Manual is not particularly informative, but it does have some blank template diagrams mirroring the control layout of the pedal. I use these (mark in pencil in case you want to modify them!) to record my fave settings. However, a little woodshedding with this pedal will eventually reward you with an intuitive feel for its sensitive controls.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a JJ blue special (all mahogany, h/bucker at bridge, P90 at neck) through an ampeg J12T with numerous effects pedals in between. The pedal adds no extraneous noise when off. It does darken the overall tone but in a good way IMHO. Really wonderful half-cocked wah sounds to almost whale-like noises and vowel-like weeping sounds too. It's all in there, but you have to look for them. On the way you'll discover all sorts of other colours. Have not tried the manual expression socket, but can't wait. I agree with a previous reviewer that it sounds strongest with a good mid-rangey pickup. However, yes, the FT2 is at its "quackiest" with the bridge humbucker on the JJ (custom-wound to be fairly hot) but the pedal is very sensitive to how hard the string is plucked and most of all the volume of the set-up. Do get some decent volume going if trying with single coils. Very synth-like sounds.

Reliability : 10
It's over twenty years old, and in brand new condition. This might outlast me. Would definitely gig without back-up.

Customer Support : 3
Never dealt with Boss. Most people reviewing Boss gear seem to err on the disgruntled side. Does Boss ever take notice of this? I'm giving this section a low score in sympathy for all the boss owners out there whose cries for help have been all but spurned by this corporation.

Overall Rating : 10
A wonderful sounding and extremely underrated pedal judging by the ebay response to these. A week or so ago, one of these was on ebay with a bid price of &29.99 and there were absolutely no takers! I couldn't believe it. The only other filter I'd consider buying after the FT2 wold be either a mutron or a meatball. No other filter in its class comes close for the range and quality of sound and flexibility and sheer value for money (at time of writing). Grab one of these for a bargain if you see one!

Getting the perfect sound can take awhile, especially for the touch wah - it's very dependent on the tone and volume coming out of your guitar. It will sound perfect and then you touch one knob and your great sound is not so great anymore. Lots of possibilities though, an up and down touch wah, and then with a controller footpedal it can be a regular wah as well!

Sound Quality : 10
If you have other pedals or effects, you have to try different arrangements to see which order sounds the best. I haven't been able to get it to sound right with a POD, but going into an amp it sounds GREAT!

The best wah effect comes thru with the guitar on a bridge or punchy humbucking pickup, one with a strong midrange.

If you tweak the knobs way past the touch wah response point you can get a nasty gnarly obnoxious midrange sound that's really amusing.

I paid a fair amount for this considering it is so rare & in good condition, and I feel this was worth it. Maybe I could have got it a LITTLE cheaper but they dont come by every day.
Lets face it, its much more cool to have a pedal called a 'Dynamic Filter' than plain old wah, both in terms of the name AND the sound!!! A unique one, which i cant figure out why they discontinued it. Maybe it was TOO unique and most kidies want a standard sorta deal. if u find one and are original id say buy it, you will enjoy it. and get any cheap volume pedal stick it in the EXP> jack and have fun using it as a unique alternative to wah.

if u want a more standard tried and tested sound, just get a crybaby , AW-3 or whatever.

Compared to a lot of Boss pedals (and pedals with generally simple layouts), it is harder to dial in the exact sound that you want with the FT-2. However, it is very easy to dial in a sound that is "good." In fact, the pedal sounds great at any setting whatsoever, it's just that you might not have a practical use for all those settings. It takes about 10-15 minutes to dial in a very good sound, and you can always tweak afterwards to achieve perfection.

I bought the pedal used (although in brand new condition) off eBay and didn't get a manual. However, I don't think a manual is really all that necessary. Once you play around with the pedal for a bit, you get the idea of exactly what it does.

Sound Quality : 9
This is the only envelope filter that I've ever tried, and I've stuck with it because it sounds so awesome. I tried the Boss AW-2 and the latest AW-3. I hated them both, but that's basically because I simply don't like the idea of an "auto wah" where you just set the rate and it keeps wah-ing for infinity. It's very counter-intuitive for me and it seems quite silly to have to worry about adjusting the rate of a wah-wah with anything other than your foot. An envelope filter, on the other hand, seems so much more intuitive and cooler, and this is what the Boss FT-2 is.

I'm using a Fender Jazzmaster as my guitar and a Roland JC-120 as the amp, and I generally use the pedal for pseudo wah-wah applications. Even though it doesn't exactly sound like a wah-wah in the "up" mode, it does a decent job of sounding like a wah, and an excellent job of sounding unique and cool. I personally prefer this over the wah-wah sound simply because the wah has been used to death. But the thing is, even if I do want to use wah, I can get very good, traditional wah-wah sounds from this pedal by plugging in an expression pedal!

I have to say that the pedal is ABSOLUTELY SILENT, and I really don't see why anyone would find it noisy, unless of course one has bad cables and the like.

I think this pedal is wonderful. It would be the perfect pedal for funk, but I've been able to make use of it in rock/alternative applications, which stands as proof of the versatility of the pedal. The only "downside," if you can call it that, is that there's a very slight drop in volume with distortion/overdrive. This is quite possibly because of the fact that overdrive compresses the signal from the FT-2, making it somewhat quieter by taking away the loud highs and swirly lows. In fact, when played clean (instant funk!), the FT-2 actually sounds more prominent and louder than a regular clean guitar sound. So, I guess there really isn't a volume/output issue here. Besides, the "drop" in volume isn't really a drop--it's more like a slight thinning out of the tone because of the constant fluctuations between low and high frequencies.

I seem to keep hearing about how people find it hard to get a really deep "wah" sound out of this pedal, and that the only sound that they can get is a sort of "scatty/bubbly" filtered sound. I really have to disagree with that. Obviously, this pedal has very sensitive controls that one needs to tweak for quite some time in order to get the desired sound. I have found that I can simulate anything from wah-wah (albeit a bit too "squawky") to funk to traditional envelope filter sounds with this pedal. In fact, it is easy to get a Jimi Hendrixesque sound with a lot of overdrive/distortion after the pedal, and *that* is very rewarding.

The most important thing, however, is that this pedal sounds absolutely *beautiful* and one should keep it if one likes great and unique sounds from an effect pedal that doesn't really try to follow down the path of countless other pedals and, instead, defines its own spectrum.

I give it a 9 only because of the all but negligible volume "problem," and the fact that it cannot completely simulate a deep. sweeping wah sound in the "up" mode (even though it *can* do that in the "manual" mode).

Reliability : 10

I've never dealt with Boss.

Overall Rating : 10
I don't understand why Boss had to discontinue this pedal. It is quite possibly the best envelope filter they've ever made. There is apparently a huge demand for the "vintage" T-Wah, but frankly, the controls on the FT-2 give you so much more dynamic range and possibilities that even by looking at the two pedals, it should be pretty obvious which one is the better. The other Boss auto wah pedals aren't really envelope filters. Well, the new AW-3 supposedly has envelope filter capabilites; however, it sounds very generic and uninspiring, and consists of way too many bells and whistles for me to take it seriously.

I play in what one could call a "melodic post-punk" band influenced by post-punk and early alternative bands such as The Cure, Joy Division, The Smiths, Depeche Mode and My Bloody Valentine. Even though I don't use the FT-2 that often (this is just because in the kind of music I make, an effect such as this isn't called for most of the time), I always have it on my pedalboard just because it can make such beautiful sounds. For the kind of prices that it sometimes goes for on eBay, this pedal is truly a keeper and a joy.

I think you can dial the sound you want within 15 minutes.

I'm using Marshall tubeamp and Strat. The pedal sounds really, really good. So FREAKIN' FUNKY! you can get different sound swithcing the "up"-"down"-"manual" button. Manual means that you can put besbeco volumepedal, or any other volume pedal in the extra jack and your FT-2 turns into a Wah-pedal! I've fallen love...

Reliability : 10
it's boss. 10 points

i have never dealt with them.

I play rock and heavy music. If it be stolen i would start looking for another but that's hard because this is really rare bird on the pedal market.

Auto wahs are one of the more difficult effects to dial in a good sound with if you aren't that familiar with them. Take your time and you will be rewarded.

Sound Quality : 10
WOW!!!! THE best auto wah I have heard next to a Mutron!!! I also have the BOSS AW-2, and T-Wah, but this one blows those 2 out of the water. Excellent versatility, and beautiful sounds!!! Get an up sweep, a down sweep, or use an expression pedal for a traditional pedal wah vibe. Good sounds CAN be dialed in using the expression pedal option (I use an Ernie Ball volume pedal which works fine as the expression pedal)... you can actually get some good old time VOX/Cry Baby sounds if you take your time & experiment. There is a real wah circuit in the pedal... inductor and all. So pretty much any auto wah or pedal wah sound you want can be achieved with this pedal.

Reliability : 10
it's a BOSS

You must practice to find the greatest sounds.

Sound Quality : 10
Very cool ! It's very quit. You have very much possibilities : Filter, Tremelo or wah-wah effects and space sound. But cutting trebles are disadvantageous for modern sounds, like a real wah effect.

BOSS !

Don't have, but i thing that it must be good.

Better than all auto-wah's ! But it's very heavy to get this rare effect like a boss PN-2 or VB-2 !

If you have used envelope filters in the past, it won't be hard to get it going. If not, good luck. 4 knobs , 3 jacks, pretty simple.

Sound Quality : 10
I am using it first in my fx chain, after an Ibanez, Jackson, or Charvel guitar. It is placed before distortion and compression effects. Sounds best with a compressor directly afterwards (to limit volume peaks).
This pedal DOES NOT sound as good as a crybaby wah, however, it gets a great Steve Vai "quack" wah sound.
Noise is almost non existant, and frequency range is excellent.

Reliability : 10
don't ask, just step on it.

I play a mixture of rock, metal, progressive, and blues. This pedal fits my purposes to a T. With a little adjustment to the sensitivity control, it can make a convincing "lazy-man's" wah.
If it were stolen, I would try to find another, but considering it's relative obscurity, I would probably be better off getting a MutronIII.
For truly original sounds, this pedal rules!!!!!

Very easy to use, but if you don't know what the knobs do already, it may take you a while. This is essentially an envelope follower controlling a lowpass filter. "sens" controls how much it follows the envelope, "cutoff" sets the initial frequency, "q" adjusts how far it moves, and "mode" sets whether the frequency sweeps down, up, or "manual" which is controlled by an expression pedal (basically makes this thing a wah-wah pedal). Once you fiddle with the knobs a little, you get a feel for how they interact. It isn't very difficult at all.

Sound Quality : 10
I mainly use this thing with my guitar, although it has other uses. I play an Electra "Les Paul" style guitar (non-MPC) into a Line 6 Pod (ok, so I'm a cheater!). I think the FT-2 sounds great. I haven't noticed any noise, although if there were noise I'm sure it would be more noticeable with a large amp setup. The effects can be adjusted from a very overdone quacking funk sound to just a slight wah, giving just a little color to the guitar sound. It's great in front of overdrive, especially on the "down" setting, where it gives a gritty, meanacing sort of "oud" sound. Turn the "sens" knob down and strum some chords lightly, then hit one stroke a little harder and you have an instant filter sweep. With an expression pedal (I use Roland EV-5) it makes a convince traditional wah-pedal. I compared with a Jimi Hendrix wah and didn't hear much of a difference. Although this pedal is made for guitar, I've also used it with my Farfisa Combo Compact organ. It can produce some cool "analog synth" effects.

Reliability : 10
I haven't had any trouble with it yet, although as a rule I treat my equipment very delicately. But, as everyone else says, "It's a Boss." I could probably chuck it against the wall with no worries. The enclosure seems very tough.

Haven't tried to deal with Boss at all.

Overall Rating : 10
I'm very much an amateur guitarist, but I think it's good to have amateur opinions as well as pro's... All in all, I think this is a great pedal. It's one of my favorites and it's really fun to play with. I think that's very important. It makes me want to play more, and as a result I become a better guitarist. I think it works for any style of music. It is not just for funk, as some might suggest. The key with this pedal is to adjust the Sens and Q so the effect is just strong enough for your style. I would definitely buy this pedal again, but it is out of production and a bit hard to find. I'm glad I was able to find one in the first place. I don't know how the sound compares to similar pedals, but I did look into the DOD FX25, and the AW-1 that Boss still makes now. I chose to go for the FT-2 because it seemed to have the most flexibility. Neither of the others have the downward dynamic, which I think is very cool and useful. And I think DOD pedals are ugly, anyway...!!

It's dead easy to make to do something, but if you want the box to make something specific, it's a lot harder. So if you manage to make a good sound with it be sure to record it immediately. It's possible that you won't find it again.

Sound Quality : 10
I use it mostly after a synth or sampler. Sometimes after distortion. It's the king of weird analog lo-fi fx. Bubbling and squeeks. Organic feel. The manual mode (wah) isn't that useable for synths though. I haven't had trouble with background noise either.

Reliability : 10
No trouble at all.

Mostly I make synth/sampler-based electronic music. I've used a lot of effect units. This one does just one thing but does it well. It's really great unit for making otherwise dull synth sounds interesting. A little analog mutation. I've tried it with guitar and bass too, but I didn't find any use for the box with them. It's a bit like autowah effect on Yamaha's Samplers etc, but a lot weirder and more organic.

Has four knobs. Sensitivity, Cutoff Frequency, Q (similar to peak on a Mutron)and Mode. The mode knob has three modes...anyway.. they are up , down and manual. The manual setting is like a wah in still position, it has the tonality of a wah but the filter does move. If you hook up a expression pedal (there's a jack for it) it's supposed to be able to act like a regular wah. I never did this, however. This pedal is one of the easier to use than the other autowahs I own. It's easier to set than the Mutron and easier to play than the DOD FX-25 Envelope Filter.

Sound Quality : 7
I use it mainly for bass, I have used it to record some guitar parts, though. This is the first envelope filter I ever bought and I had it for about eight years. (That was during the "wah sucks" era.) After that I bought the Guyatone BG-03 Bass Wah, DOD FX-25 and finally the Mutron III+. When I bought my Mutron (about last April) I took out all my old pedals and compared them to the Mutron. When I took out the FT-2, I was surprised to find out the Boss sounded closest to the Mutron. In fact, some settings are very close. It can imitate a Mutron (the reissue at least) with the Low Pass on, with the range up and drive up almost exactly. (It can't get the lowest depth settings on the Mutron). I also noticed that you don't lose much bottom on the bass. On guitar, it doesn't seem interesting enough but I did get a Mick Ronson type sound using a twin blade humbucker (a Chopper T) and the dynamic filter in manual mode. I suppose you could get closer to that sound with a Les Paul. The differences between this and the Mutron are: 1) It is not as sensitive to playing dynamics as the Mutron is. It's not good for switching from two-finger and slap. 2)It's hisses more than the Mutron.

Reliability : No Opinion
The outout jack isn't grounded, I think. I opened it and couldn't find the problem. It's a bummer because I was planning to use this on gigs so I wouldn't have to bring my Mutron to gigs. (A Mutron III+ reissue in Japan costs about 500 bucks! So I don't like to flash it around that much). I think the output jack failed because of these angle plugs I was using were too long and bent inside the jacks. Other than that, I had no problems.

Overall Rating : 7
It's a good substitute for a Mutron. There may be other pedals out there that I didn't try of course. I guess Boss doesn't make these anymore. It's now called the AW-2 or something like that. I never tried it but I know Flea has both Bosses in his rig. I don't know if that is because he sets both on different settings or because they do sound different. If you find one used, check it out.
