Hello. I have used it in 12 years every week. I have strugled a lot and come up with my own sounds. My ME 6 is some problem sometimes in the led card it don??t always funktion. I have to repare it bacause the cabel is making a move in the card an makes it not function. The manual I??ve got just a year ago and it??s sucks. Onley one sound is going to use instead of mine.

Sound quality is okej. I use i transistor top Vs 100 Marshall. It??s little noice but you can put the treeshhold on 4. then it??s okej. You must realy make some offer in time to find good sounds. I have done it in 12 years. Now I have it. One distorsion is good and flanger and delay. Of course is Equliser good to make the sound higher on other stomp pedal trouth the ME6.

I play covers in ballad rock and Iron Maiden and that stuff. I have a pedalboard with: Tu2 CS2 AC2 Ubermetal Line6 SD2 and a ME6. Love it because it??s so easy to use and I use ME6 delay chorus reverb flanger volume high solo to my stomppedals. My friend have problem to make a booster trough his Marshall 800 but I have no problem with this gear.

I haven't bought it for the distortion because i've got a Boss MT-2 pedal. The other effects are pretty good. I like the delay most. The reverb effects sounds cheap when setting the time below 10 ore something. The delay ends not nice then (to fast). The equalizer overdrives when setting the low-level to high.
With good settings it sounds great but it has to be used with other 'loose' pedals like my MT-2 for the best sound.

I'm playing Metal and thats the reason why I don't like the distortion (just to weak). I??ve got a 12-snare Yamaha western guitar which sounds great with the delay effects. In combination with my other pedals do I like it. The only thing thats bordering me is that the bypass-button is too small. When I want to play without the ME-6 can't I turn it off easy with my foot (I've to use my big toe :P). That problem is easy to solve by setting channel one witout any effects. It's a good machine, specially for the price I bought it fore.

Overall this is a good piece of kit although a bit dated. I still like it for some of the effects. It has inspired me as this was my first multi effect pedal 10 years ago. Anyway I bought it for 50 pounds from a second hand shop from bradford 10 years ago, If you come across it for sth like 30 pounds go for it

well, it did take quite a few time to get used to it...but once you get through this, you can be editing sounds just as cooking in a microwave! I downloaeded the manual from the Roland web site and it was VERY helpful.

Favourite artist's sounds? Since this is not a modern virtual-I-don't-know-what unit, you can taylor sounds of your own. The distortions are not the modern rectified ones that punky kids and shreder's clones expect, I recommend them to use a separate distortion stomp box as I do. My current rig is as follows: I plug either my Ibanez RG320, my cheap-o-caster or my beautiful Aria Pro II (see review) to a Dunlop CryBaby, then to a Boss MT2, then the Boss ME-6 and sometimes I add a volume pedal at the end of the chain before the solid state Marshall Lead 12 combo. It gets quite noisy if you don't handle the compression carefully when using theinternal distortions or if you abuse of the reverb. If you use external distortion it's a real reliable machine! And the clean sounds are amazing! I can spend hours tweaking for nice delays, warm reverbs and convincing flanger sounds (oh, yeah, if you sit down and work this unit out, you can get even contemporary sounds easily; just listen to your ears and use your head!). Let me tell you that I heard a guy of a classic rock cover band in a pub and he was pulling amazing sounds out of the ME-6, a strat and a Fender Twin amp...I realy believe good quality gear make the difference when you use this unit: I had a Marshall MG15RCD and the MT2 and the ME-6 sounded HORRIBLE; but when I got this little beast Marshall Lead 12 (a solid state combo from the 80's)things were SOOOOOOOO different...Overall, cool EQ, great modulation FX's and so-so distortions. Try this one with headphones, it will astonish you! And I use it for gigs and it's great because Ican swithch from rhythm to solo leads with its obvious volume increase and it hanldes that perfectly. I don't know what the people say, but if you are patient you can get great sound from it.

I've been playing for 6 years and this unit fits perfectly my music styles which are har rock, metal, rock and some blues; not for the distortions but for the liquid modulation, the nice EQ you can get, and the fact that you can store a lot of patches and use it as a series of stomp boxes. If it were lost or stolen I 'd buy another BOSS multiFX 'coz they are excellent quality. Compared to the Zoom 505II(which I traded for the ME-6 and paid NOTHING) the Zoom sounds cheesy compared to the Boss in terms of modulation. I wish it had pitch shifting...it helps with my music because I can use it live and it's easy to use.

I tried and tried and tried but I just could not get a good overdrive sound out of this unit, passable but very average.
The delay, chorus and reveb are very good though. The eq is good and the comp seems ok but I generally don't use compresors so I'm not a very good judge. After using a Rat and Od-1 for about 20 years the overdrives just don't stand up. So if your after a unit to run along side a good overdrive pedal go for it, otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.

I'm a working musician so I play many styles of music. I've been at it for about 20 years. I have a lot of gear but I usually use a tele or strat through a Fender 59 bassman or Vox ac-15. I borrowed this of a friend for a couple days to try out with the idea of having a simple unit where I could have a variety of patches to switch between but it didn't work out for me. I like the delay and chorus etc but hate the overdrive and distortion. Some of you do and may like the me-6 but it's not for me.

Very easy!!! Everything is clear, there are a few controls to edit a LOT of items.... so... just have 5 min with it and you will discover how to setup it by yourself. But it is a multieffect... it isn't that paradise of control potenciometers like in separate units...

Wow... is very common to find bad comments about this unit... specially when they come from little boys who need hard distortions...
But i have a different vision about this unit.
I plugged a 78 vintage Les Paul (mahogany) in a Fender Amp... It's sounds very fine... The clean effects are very good! Chorus is very nice, and with the compressor i could reach an excelent 'poping' and 'bright' sound with the guitar... Excelent for jazz.
The distortion... well, if you play something before the 80's, you can use the presets... If you want to play some heavy metal with high harmonics you have to work hard on it... You have the Pre equalized distortion... So, you can edit the color of you distortion equalizing it... Wow, since i've bought this unit, i'm still editing my PreEQ distortions... But i have nice ones today...
Another good point: the low drive, is very nice! You can get an vintage drive very similar to the blues OD used in the latest 60 or during the 70... Something like David Gilmour... Or something like Scott Henderson today... Very nice!!!!

Can you make it easier? This layout is like having some stompboxes on the floor. The manual is excellent too. There are some parameters that you won't find on todays multieffects - like adjustable predelay on the chorus. This means you don't have to sound like everyone else.

I really like this gadget. When it came around it was very unusual to have both delay and reverb at the same time. (My KORG AX 100G still can't do this..) The ME-6 sounds good. What I miss are more modulation effects (just chorus/flanger available). It would also be nice to have one semidistorted sound. The ME-6 covers clean and full distortion sounds but nothing in between. Remember that it was made long before digital tube-simulation became popular. I have used it in all different situations. In front of clean amps, dirty amps, PA.s, through FX-loops. It does them all!

People used to say it sounds bad (distortions mainly), but you have to consider that to get THE SOUND you should have a decent guitar and amp, of course. Cheap guitars and amps will produce a cheap sound, Am I right?
This machine rocks...overdrive and distortions are decent, effects are really warm, delay and reverb great, and the noise supressor really works fine. By the way, it's an analogue sound, not emulation! If you want to create your own sound signature, that's for you.

Sounds are OK, nothing fancy about it. The distortions don't sound very good. The mid range settings on the EQ was hard to find a tone that suited my taste. Distortions effects are limited to just OD and Distortion.

i ran 2 ibanez rg's into a bad horsie and a whammy into a laney gh50l half stack with the me-6 plugged into the parallel fx loop. i used the me-6 for mainly delay ,modulation and reverb on a couple of patches for ryth plus a little of the eq on the overdrive channel to enhance the laneys mid range for leads.i could sort of cop that drop dead legs sound which suited the VH, roth, hair band stuff i was playing at the time.i bought a second one later on to get that dream theatre morphed sound by splitting after the whammy into a second me-6into the front of a solid state 60 watt in conjuntion with the laney setup which worked great except my pedal array was too big for the stage.if i put out the front of the laney it just plain sucked.crap distortions, fair compressor ect., just not a great unit to generate front end tone.but in fairness the multi fx of the day were primarily based around the concept of storing combinations of stompbox fx with instant recall.this is one of its redeeming features, given the parametric simplicity of the effects, patch changes are so quick and quiet because the algos are so small.(i have 2 j-stations that take ages to change patches via midi and they are not seamless).its quiet if you are not using the compressor or fuzzesas the noise gate has sharpe teeth and fuck all ajustability.tip is if you want basic delay, mods and rev sounds, get an amp that sounds good and ENHANCE it with something like this.6 for what i was using it for at the time, 2 for use in front end.

the first one i bought i still have and it is the most reliable piece of gear i have ever owned, nearly 10yrs old still going strong. the second one i got had the plastic buttons ripped out of half the edit switches as the previous owner had taken his frustrations out on the external actuators not the microswitches underneath that were the culprit. i am an electrician and the place i worked at the time had an electronis dept. who replaced all of the micros for me.i replaced the external buttons with some ones i cut out of perspex and it was still working flawlessly on the day i sold it.its a boss which means hard to stop and easy to fix if it does!

i have played for 16yrs and am basically a rock jammer who these days gets more out of tweaking shit than actually using it,so i guess its fair to say the me-6 has become a doorstop.if you have an amp/guitar setup that already sounds good the delay/reverb /mod fx are passable enough for a bit of enhancement and shitloads cheaper than forking out on separate pedals.they lack realtime/midi control of parameters that are avaidable in gear these days for next to nothing, but if simplicity is what you want it works.i am presently driving my "obsolete" j-stations into a poweramp and using my K5000w for midi cc experiments on it.in 1994 there was not much to compare with the me-6 except the me-5 and i wish i had one.

i use a 50watt marshall combo with an epiphone les paul custom and a mexican fender telecaster. i use this with a variety of other pedals, crybaby wah, boss rod 10 overdrive, alng with boss tremelo, flanger, super overdrive, acoustic simulator and marshall bluesbreaker. i use so many for one reason. the unit as a whole is pretty terrible. the only good effects are the delay and compressor. i use the delay for the coldplay sound, when plucked clean, and the compressor along with my other overdrive unit to get the retro sound which the hives and the strokes have. this unit is good for me because i only use it for these effects. if you are looking for an overall multi effects unit, id look elsewhere.

It has a good sound with a good noise supressor. The only thing to be carefull with is when using the noise suppressor with distortion/overdrive. I have used it with a variety of amps and guitars, and it is always easy to get a nice sound, normally you only need to tweak the amp settings. The one let down is the Flanger effect. It is hard to get the right mix between unnoticable and overwhelming (took me 30 minutes to get a sound i was happy with). Overall the sound is good, at least as good as having a huge rack of boss pedals.

I'm using a strat with a humbucker in bridge position running into a 50w amp. effetcs like delay, flanger and so on really kick ass! the reverb is very noisy and the distortion sucks. it sounds like there is some flanger mixed in. well overall: for flanger, chorus and delay: 6 out of 10 / would the distortion be much better and the reverb less noisy I'd give full 10 points.

I recently bought the korgax100g which sounds overall better than the bosss because of built in vamps (better distortion etc).

Me being a man of little patience(i.e. none whatsoever) would prefer rotary dials instead of digital. BUT the idea of 25 patches available in two stomps of the old foot is wonderful, AND unlike other MFX boards the change is INSTANT. So the trade-off is that it does take a while to set up, but after that it's a piece of duff to use, especially in a gig. The manual was ok.
Sound Quality
:

Well, it's now probably classed as "vintage", which is a kind way of saying "obsolete". I think it's great for plugging into solid-state cheap amps. It's very quiet with solid state and lets you explore lots of different sounds. I'd say "Sound" rather than "Tone" because the distortions aren't all that good. These days I play guitar plugged directly into a Fender HRD (see review) and it's put me right off using ANY effects, I much prefer the tone of the Amp. Basically, it doesn't matter what the hell guitar you put through this, they all sound the same! These days I would not use it in a gig, but I used to, and it worked well enough. For clean sounds you can get some real other-worldy tweets and swirls. Sonic equivelant of tripping. There are a couple of usable presets for Heavy Metal in bank two. More crunch than Extra Crunchy peanut butter. Also, can provide a really, and I mean really beautiful lead tone when you bung in enough delay. For the money these things go for now, it's worth buying just for the delay. Mind you, I wouldn't put it into an all-valve (Tube) amp, cos it fucks up the tone. Well actually, it replaces the amp's tone with it's own. All effects do that, so I'm not bashing the ME5, I just no-longer like my tone processed. But hell, it's still FUN to use in the bedroom.

Very reliable, mine's been all over Europe, each pedal must have been stomped on thousands of times. Only problem was that the input jack went bye-bye. Solution? Wire it up to the jack next to it! I've forgotten what it's for, but was something I never used anyway.

I bought this in 1993 and it no longer falls into what I'd call a "professional" piece of kit, but second hand I'd suggest buying it if you have a crap amp or are starting out. When you're starting, effects give you hope, just don't get too dependant on them like I did! I play all kinds from ballads to Blues to Rock. It will never match the tone of a valve amp, but neither do the ultra expensive modelling amps of today. I know, I've tried them and laughed. Not suitable for blues, very difficult to get any smoothness out of this without delay. And you don't want delay if your playing the blues!
As an aside, I've found a new use for it. My band practises in the drummers cellar and I don't have a lot of gear. I'm also lead vocalist, but we don't have a PA. So, I plug the mike into the ME5, use the Comp/Sustain, noise gate and reverb and whack that into a little 15 watt amp. Nothing brilliant, but I can be heard over the guitar, Drum and Bass! Not recommended for gigging in a rock band, buy a decent amp for the overdrive, but well worth experimenting with if you see one cheap!

I use it with a Crate amp and it sounds pretty good, but most of the time i just use it with a direct box to a mixer (cuz my amp is too small for gigs) and believe me, it sounds great! Try doing this with a Digitech or a Zoom and you'll sound as a small chicken dying in a grinding machine. ME-6's effects are very natural sounding, having in mind that it is a 10 year old effects processor. If you tweak enough, you can even get contemporary rock sounds.. you just have to be patient and smart enough. If you are one of those stupids who think all things must be preset to "be good" this is not for you... but if you are a serious musician who needs sonething versatile and long lasting... this is it!

Hard as a rock. I've used it since 1993... in about 100 gigs... and it works as new! Obviously, it doesn't have all the "exquisite features" of newer processors such as tuner, exp pedal, incorporated wah, harmonizer, etc... you have to be into the context of the time it was made... The precission it has between bank and effect changes is outstanding... It changes exactly when you press the pedal.
Believe me, The ME-6 is one of those things that are made to last forever, and become classics.. just like vintage Studer 24 track analog recorders, Telefunken mics, or a '57 Telecaster... Not like my other effects processor (Digitech RP-6) which dissappointed me as soon as I plugged it into my Crate... not to mention when I tried to change effects between verse and chorus... The gap took like 100 years...

I bought it in 1993... when I was starting at gigs... I still love it!!! I've seen other processors, and If I had the chance, I'd obviously get a newer processor.. but I'll never get rid of it... I think it is some kinda Vintage Gear... I even use it on my home studio as an alternate effects processor for vocals, and instruments...

Very easy, wish every unit could be as easy to use as this one. Just press edit button and select the effects you want on or off with the foot buttons, and then go up and down setting the modes on each effect. To save your final sound mix, just use the write\copy button pushing it two times. There is a master volume also.
To modify anithing you must always press the edit button so your setting is secure. That's all there is to it, if you read this you dont even need to use the manual.

Have a Fender Fat Tele with a Seymour Duncan Little 59 bridge pickup and a Tex Mex on neck pickup. With my Fender Rock Pro 1000 amp this unit sounds very good. But I can confirm that you need good gear for this if you want to get a decent sound. I had another guitar and amp. and the result was very depressing. But with good gear this unit can give a surprising sound! The distortions are not the best, very noisy and kind of thin. Although it's great for artistic sounds, I made one that's a beautifull synth. I prefer my amp's distortion for most of the songs. What I do is have a clean sound set on a bank so I can mix it with my amps distortion, that way I don't need to use the bypass and still use my clean sounds of the ME-6. The dealy is excellent! the chorus is very good and also the flanger but this one needs to be set up very carefully. The bad thing of this unit is the noise suppresion which cuts too much your distorted sound if set after 5 or so. The mid range of the eq is kind of treaky.

This pedal is so self explanitory. It has two modes for switching sounds, a normal mode which makes each pedal act as if it were a combination of whatever effects, and a Manual mode if you like to use it like a bunch of effect pedals. Editing patches is a breeze as long as you know how to read. And it basically is easier to use than a modern microwave in my opinion.

I have heard that this pedal sounds crappy. I beg to differ, it's the lazy person programming the patches, not the pedal. My friend lent me this so he could borrow my DOD Super American Metal. It sounded bad when I first had it. I took it home (On a night before school), and sat in my bed with the lights off programming patches with the LED's alone, using my Fender Jag-Stang with EMG pickups, and the headphones going into the headphone jack. I somehow managed to get Metallica-like Distortions, and Bluesy warm overdrives, and choruses much thicker than the chorus on my amp. I programmed patches that sounded like Aliens and Disembodied voices. and if your asking, no I was not tripping. This thing can SOUND EXCELLENT if you spend some time editing the patches and using your head to get the sounds you want.

You can depend on it, except the jack on the ac adaptor itself. After using it in my band for a month, the output plug on the adaptor jack self destructed inside the jack, leaving the metal positive conductor and the plastic insulation sleeve inside the jack. It worked OK for awhile longer until the insulation came out and the parts got mangled. Then I stripped off the output end of the adaptor and hardwired it into the pedalboard. It has worked perfectly ever sience. Who needs a bakup, all you need is MAYBYE a soldiering iron.

You dont get much simpler than this pedal. I remember taking it out of the box and already knowing how to use it (even though i never had a multi-fx pedal beofre). Especially with all this new "pre-amp simulations" this is bare bones and simple.

I use a Carvin "Holdsworth" model now but have used a Fender Tele +, an 86 Les paul Standard and a Gibson ES125. All of these sounded fine thru this box. Yes - the distortins are not the best but ive used this pedal for about 6 years now as my main distortions and have found 3 or 4 settings that make it sound great. I play thru an early 80's Mesa Boogie Mk2C so i assume a good amp will make the effects sound better. The delay and chorus are very usable but the reverb does have something to be desired. I found 1 usable setting (and that is my only reverb i use now).

The Controls of this unit really explain themselfs, easy as a breeze.
Editing and copying goes like one twoo three.
The manual, albeit not needed, forms a nice compliment and would teach even the dumbest around how to work with the unit within minutes.
Choosing different sound-effects couldn't be simplier, just stomp the relevant pedal and there was light...(ok a little red one, but "crystal" enough, even the manual mode benefits of this system.

Fender USA with a Seymore Duncan Hotrail bridgepickup and Texas special mid and neck pickups, into a Jim Dunlop Cry-Baby, into my Marshall 8080 (Valvestate).
Noise : non existant on clean settings, but with multipple effects it sometimes just get's away with it (Especially Flanger).
Distortions are pretty straigtforward but kick in the EQ and you're in distortion heaven ! Sweep the mid-range (if you dare) and your off into a wide variaty of eardrum-piercing tones.
Chorus is nice (Fatten's yer sound) and compression is great. The best effect must be the delay which,as a solo-guitarist, adds greater dimension to my overall leadsound.
Pink-Floyd, no problem (Watch out Dave...)
Deep Purple, Santana, Guns 'n Roses, Radiohead, Pearl Jam,... you name it. I even managed to recreate Mister Steve Vai's Sound without the Eventide !!!!(Phew)
Noise reduction tends to cut your sound a little too much, but only when you have to put a higher tresshold because of erky pickups.
My advice: get a good guitar (!!Pickups!!!)and this unit sounds fantastic

Very few buttons and easy to edit.
You have about 25 different sounds. I swear, you can only use a few of them (excepted you play psychedelic music)
So it is not a pity that you have to save you own settings on erasing existing ones.

I think it has already been said : the distortion and overdrive sound very bad. Even if it is possible to pre-equalize the distortion, it never has the sound you dreamed of. Delay is nice , reverb sounds a bit metallic, noise gate is not very good (a lot of noise is left even at high values). The chorus is allright but not very exiting.
You will soon notice that only the 25 presets sound good. When you edit and create your own sound, the range within you can vary is small and most of the time you are limited to slightly modify existing presets, otherwise you will have problems.

Setup: Danelectro DC-3 (And I like it) or a Lyon solid body through the ME-6 and into a Park 15" or a Carvin 25" (Tube/Solid Hybrid). The pedal is not as noisy as some I have owned. It depends a lot on how you have the ME-6 and your amp set up.
The effects: According to the reviews I've read there is some controversy over the quality of the pedals. Let me clear things up a little bit. Going from left to right, ignoring the compressor, straight to the distortion. The Overdrive settings are, as many have said, weak. But overdrive isn't meant to be overpowering. If you play with the equalizer (which I will get to) you can get the overdriven sound you want. The other three distortion settings are much more gritty, but you can infinitely vary the sound how you want it by using the equalizer. The equalizer is a really handy dandy effect, and I never turn it off. It does what it does very well, and if used properly, will get the distortion to wherever you want it. If you still don't like the distortion I suggest you invest in a DOD Death Metal (FX-86/B) and forgo multi-effects altogether. The noise suppressor is just slightly too slow. Even at the highest threshhold it still subtly 'fades out' instead of cutting out altogether. The delay effect was also nicely done, it delays up to a full second and with a little tweaking can be infinitely looped. Very dada. The chorus/flanger effect just feels like one of Danelectro's assorted mini pedals - well enough. The reverb works like any reverb, but can be 'reverberated' very thickly, rediculously thickly even.
One of the questions is 'can you get the sound of your favorite artist', and the answer is, yes, quite easily, as I am my favorite artist, and I sound damn good. I sound good with this pedal too.
The best effect? The delay. The worst effect? The chorus/flanger (the chorus is to hard too deepen without making it sound bad and the flanger takes too much time to find a setting that dulls the swish but keeps the effect - much like Dano's mini flanger pedal). It gets an 8, losing two key points: Good sounding chorus/flanger, and average distortion (It can be above average if you play with the equalizer though).

I was wondering how it remember the settings after I pull the plug, so I took it apart looking for a battery (I bought it used so if it had a battery it would prolly need replacing). Though I never found a battery, I did notice that the breadboards were solidly mounted, and inside a similarly solid metal casing under the plastic outside. Looks can be decieving. I don't trust the plastic pedals, but if you're not an ass with your equipment I can't see why you would have a problem.
I have gigged with it and it held up fine. My backup in case the ME-6 failed was a MetalZone. A seven because the soft rubber buttons have the potential to jam (They haven't and prolly won't unless I unintentionally step on them, which I might) and because there is plastic on it at all.

I play noise/art rock. This pedal does not match my tastes and needs to a T, but it is very portable, and meets the medium requirements (more than the minimum requirements) to be a peice of my equipment.
If it were stolen or lost I'd be very pissed, because when I spend more than $50 on something used I'd expect to hold on to it. If I couldn't find another ME-6 that cost less than I spent on the first one, I would save up and get an ME-30... but only after I played with it first.
I love the headphone feature. I hate hitting the wrong button and inadvertantly editing a different effect than the one I had just been editing. I don't have a favorite feature, because all of the effects are well done. None stand out as spectacular, but they all work at LEAST averagely. Metalheads may want more 'stortion but really, you won't be able to use the other effects if you that distorted.
I wish it had a built in tuner, but if I understand correctly the ME-30 does. I compared the ME-6 to a $90 Zoom and a $230 Digitech. The Zoom was underwhelming and the Digitech was too pricy. The Boss matched the distortion well enough with the MetalZone to replace it and it cost about as much as the metalzone, but with five effects to boot.
All aside, the effects can't make your music better. That's up to a quality guitarist. If you use it right, and use the 'exotic' effects (Delay, Chorus, Flanger) correctly you can really impress people. abuse the effects, and you'll just annoy your audience (...particularly flanger).
Overall, I find it is a solid pedal in every aspect. It is not lacking in anything, but it could be better everything. For what I paid for it though, it's a 10, but in reality, it's a...

Compressor: Quite good Over/Dist: It's just rubbish! They're neither powerful amp-simulating overdrive nor warm and fat distortion; the sound loses it's deepness, when using these (I use the overdrive of my Marshall Valvestate 4060, and a Boss SD-1 SuperOverdrive). Equalizer: I use it very few, but it seems very good... Noise Suppressor: Good for clean sounds (sometimes...); when using distortion or overdrive with a high level of Suppr., the sound is unnatural, it sounds like plastic... Delay: A bit noisy, only one second delay time, mono only; but it's good if you never had a delay before it. Flanger/Chorus: The flanger is not too bad; I don't like the Chorus (but I never used one before, and I never heard it on stereo). Reverb: As if it weren't there! I use the reverb of my amp; that's good!

Nothing noticeable when you are not using distortions. Unfortunatelly the sound quality of the whole thing is bad. The distortions are crap. Especially mode 5 (pre equalised distortion) sounds bad. Not recomended for blues or heavy metal players. THERE ARENT ANY BLUES SOUNDS COMING OUT OF IT WHATSOEVER. Sounds great with some fine-tuning. Effects settings are easy to edit, both in Play Mode and Manual Mode. The ME-6 features a row of six large footswitches labeled 1 - 5, and B. B = Bank, so players can easily select a patch from another bank with three quick taps -- no scrolling through banks. Players can concentrate on their playing instead of watching the scrolling numbers on the LED. This feature kicks Digitech's ass! The ME-6 is out of production; Boss's newest offerings are the high-end GT-5 and the competetively priced ME-30. I haven't tried the ME-30, but I know I don't like the footswitch layout.

The modulation effects (chorus/flanger) are lush, but the flanger's master level must be kept under 50% to keep the sweep from drowning out the guitar's tone. Stereo and mono choruses are good, but nothing phenominal. Delay provides a natural-sounding echo, and you can even make infinite loops with some tweaking (very cool!); I wish delay time was longer, as this only goes up to 1,000 miliseconds (ms). Four Reverb modes are okay, but too bright; you'll need to turn the delay tone down. I really like the compressor because you can get a very even string response and boost your sustain. Compressor really enhances the overdrive effect. Distortion modes 1-4 are good, but mode 5 is too fuzzy; it might be good and grainy enough for grunge rock. Mode 1 = soft tubelike overdrive; mode 2 = crunchy tubelike high-gain overdrive; modes 3 and 4 are differently voiced solid-state distortions (4 is good for '80s hard rock/metal). The noise gate is always on, but features an adjustable threshold; I like to keep it low so I can get controlled feedback when using distortion. Finally, the equalizer: it rocks, but the Mid-Freq selector can be tricky. I try not to mess with it too much; it really depends on the characteristics of your different guitar + pickup + amp combination. I've finally found a good Joe Satriani sound (after five years!). See Tone Depot Web site. Not 24-bit, but clear enough for good tone on a budget.

25 patches directly programmable, very easy accessable, for quick editing (even during gigs). However, in manual mode, when you disable a certain effect and you keep the (blinking) cursor on that position, you can hear the blinking through your amp...sucks. I found out after playing 2 songs....while we were taping a demo! Manual is good enough (you don't really need it).

At rehersal time I use it with a peavey 50W amp (if you like good sound don't buy this either). I play metal, rock and a bit of grunge playing on a Jackson Dinky XL. I prefer a warm overdrive sound (like Marshall), but this sound CANNOT be achieved with this unit. Distortion and overdrive sounds flat and definitely NOT tube-like. So don't buy this unit if you're looking for a reasonable or even good distortion. At home I'm using the unit on the effects loop of my Marshall valvestate 8080 (now that's an overdrive!), which works pretty well. Noise surpressor 's good, but I ALWAYS need it, 'cause the damn thing is too damn noisy. Compressor is good, EQ can not satisfy me, Delay is pretty good, (mono) chorus sucks,(I haven't tried the stereo's on amps, but through headphones they sound pretty good!). Flanger isn't warm enough. Reverb is reasonable but not great.

Very easy to use. It's laid out like a chain of stompboxes. You don't even need the manual, because a quick reference is printed right on the top of the unit. The documentation's nice, though. I use this with a Randall half-stack, and a Peavey Stereo Chorus 212. I also use it as an all-around processor in my home studio. I'll give you my take on each of the effects. Here goes:
Noise Gate: Always active, very effective. Compression: Good. Can even use it for vocals. Distortion: Hrm...not tubelike at all, very fuzzy. Not enough "gain". EQ: Flexible. I like it. Chorus/Flanger: There are 3 chorus modes, for different stereo effects. These sound pretty good. The flanger can get a bit wild at times, but you can tame it. Delay: It's a fairly quiet, flexible delay. Reverb: This is where the unit falls short of my expectations. The reverb is pretty thin, regardless of mode. It's no substitute for the lush reverb sounds I have heard in more expensive gear, but from a utilitarian perspective, it'll do for gigs. You need better in a studio situation. Sounds like low bit resolution on the DSP.

I run my unit through a 65 music man amp so I can get some good od sounds fromthe amp and use the digital sounds on the unit. The flanger sucked till I found that if you turn the master Volume down it tones down all the crappy swish. This applies to the chorus and the delay as well. I just started running two amps through a cabinet with two twelves. I send the left channel into a crate and the right into the Music man and I've gotton some cool sounds from the combo. Unfortunatly my back is killing me from lugging all the gear around. I'm looking at an RP unit or a Zoom.

If you have half a brain and five minutes, you can figure out how to use this easily. The main problem that people have is changing the "channels" during a performance. But you can easily program up to 5 needed effects to one channel which makes changing from heavy distortion to a light acoustic sound easy.

I love the sound quality on this pedal. The distortions are great, and the effect can be varied easily. If a decent amp is being used, the pedal can produce great sounding distortion and other sounds well.

This product is not the most reliable I have ever seen. The buttons, (not the stomp pedal) get stuck somewhat easily after a few years of use. Overall, not the most reliable piece of plastic, but it still produces great sounds.

I am a Heavy Rocker. I'm very confident to the Boss Distortion. ME-6's Distorion is good. Delay works well. But its noise gate, compressor, EQ section have noise. Somewhat it makes sound cheep. Now I'm using it with more heavyier and sticky setting.

I will buy a higher level Effect Processor like GT-5, ME-10 next time if my budget allows. But, if I have only money that can buy ME-6, I will buy it again. I think there is no other choice. ME-6 is enough. (It will be better choice than buy a series of Combo-style foot pedal effector.

As a Boss fan from the 80's I thought I had a great deal by buying one unit with all what I need in one package. I was wrong. It is fairly hard to pine point a sound that you are looking for. It doesn't communicate well individual taste and to transistored sound for me. But it is something that is affordable for someone that doesn't have the dough to buy separate unit. the patch are fairly easy to tweek. But you have to get on your knee every time you want to adjust something banging your neck all over. The manual is alright I guess. I never been one to use manual unless stuck or looking for new features. As far as I know, it a toy not made for serious musician.

The reverb sucks. I like the distortion. have a choice of overdrive 1 or 2 and then distortion 3,4. The flanger needs help and cannot be used for more than just a touch of it. I always had problem with digital EQ. I find it so much easyer to let my finger push sliders up and down to find the perfect tone. Although it's not bad EQ.

Don't get it out of your bedroom. Use it as a practice effect only. Its made out of pure plastic and if you are like me you are gona crash it the first night. You will need to make yourself a box of somekind, (You have to) otherwise if you step on your wire: By bye female conectors. everything is made out of plastic and not geared toward the road. but for a bedroom effect, it's great.

I wouldn't buy it again. I like only a few things about it but can only use it in the bedroom. Next time I buy an effect processor all in one kinda thing I will get rackmounted. You need metal on the ground and electronic on a rack simple as that. anything close to plastic on the floor will get dammaged and you will poor water on it one day or another.

The manual wasn't that helpful, but I didn't need it. In three minutes, I figured out how to program everything. A nice touch, but personally, I don't like this whole "ease of use" thing: I'd prefer editing parameters on a faceless rackmount unit, myself.

This thing's quiet. The compression for me isn't exceptional, but it does get the job done. The distortion is OK, although I still prefer my stompboxes. What really knocked me out, though, was the chorus - plug this baby into two amps, and the stereo chorus effect was unbelievable!

The power supply does seem kinda flimsy, and the whole shebang is made of plastic. I'm kinda hesitant to give it a good pounding, and would always use a backup, just in case. Other than that, it still hasn't failed me yet.

A very good value for my dollar. It helps me make music, though next time, I'd probably prefer something with an effects loop - I have to chain my stopboxes BEFORE this thing, which kinda makes the compression useless.

Great for those looking for their first multi-effects unit. Easy to use, and very inexpensive. The big negative part is of course the distortion, however, the chorus, delay, flanger make up for it.
You can easily find one for around $200 used these days...which is a great bargain.

I'd probably get an RP-1 if I had it to do over. I do like the EQ and delay-based effects, but the distortions suck dead bunnies through a straw. I sort of wish it had a harmonizer (like the ME-8), though I doubt I'd know how to use one...

I believe that it is fairly easy to get a good sound out of the ME-6. All you have to do is read the small manual to get an overview of how each effect works, and just combine some of the effects until you get a sound that is good for you. It is also very simple to edit patches. Just hit the edit button, and you can configure any of 25 presets. Each patch has ITS OWN manual mode also, so for instance, you can program an effect with a volume of 40 into patch 20 for concert playing and have the manual mode of the same patch with a volume of 10 for playing around the house. All you have to do is hit the manual button...

The only problems I've had with feedback or interference has been with distortion. There's not much at all, especially if you put a high setting on the noise supressor. Overall, the effects sound great. Chorus/Flanger, Reverb, Distortion all sound good to me!

I haven't had any problems so far with the ME-6. Since the effects pedal is machinery, it can be unreliable at times, but I haven't had any problems. I would definitely do a gig without a backup as long as I had my ME-6.

Sure, I would buy it again. When I bought it, I knew that it was a lot of money, but if you're a musician, you probably will agree that that is the case with most equipment. I can't imagine playing without my pedal. While other musicians are playing on their amps with a little distortion, I can blow them away with features like reverb, distortion, chorus/flanger, digital delay, a noise supressor, and an equalizer. It certainly helps me!
