it sounds best when you turn everything up all the way except the high Knob should be put at 12:00.. if you have the high up too much.. it sounds like a chainsaw on rocket fuel and you get a razor blade distortion sound.. the louder the better. this @#*($@ think is what cannibal corpse uses.. doesnt that speak for itself?

This is a metal/hard rock pedal, if anyone says differently, they are lying! I heard people saying it did more than just metal, but any way I dial it it sounds metallicy and loud. I don't like it for anything but metal, which I don't play much of.. But it's the best pedal I've ever heard for metal.

If you play metal buy it. If you play anything else don't. This is a metal/hard rock stompbox.. I'm trading it in for a Blues Driver or Turbo Overdrive.

For a pedal: its a 10....(assuming you like very high saturation) Very good sound quality... you can get that death metal pit sound out of it, and it sounds very good, not chezzy at all. Very punchy... As much or as little bass, mid, treb as you want.
Pedal has an parametric mid eq, which can vary the sound. It would be nice if the bass was paramentric.
If you like hellish distortion, its a winner.

Only had it for a few weeks. It's all metal, and no prob with it so far. Battery does drain quickly, but you can plug in an 9volt adapter to it.

There are several EQ ranges that you can dick around with on this pedal. You can make it, like, biting Randy Rhodes style, or you can beef it up for that heavy Kyuss / chunky Nuno biz. Most folks, it seems to me, find one they like and stick with it -- heck, it ain't the space shuttle for crissake!

To my knowledge, THIS IS THE MOST BRUTAL CONTROLLABLE DISTORTION FROM AVAILABLE IN ANY PEDAL ON THE MARKET. It absolutely cranks. Palm mute with your picking hand... the chunking is so absurd you'll crack up. So over the top! Really, you must play one. No. Really.

Really easy to use. Has a gain knob, a distortion knob, and 2 concentric knobs for treble, bass, mid, and mid freqency. Let's face it, if you think any stomp box is hard to use, you're in for a rough life.

Uh, well, this is where I had a problem. I read many reviews here, and most of them said it was a great stomp box, and I bought it on those reviews. However, when I got it home and plugged it in, out came the cheesiest 80's Warrant-style guitar sounds I've heard, well, since the 80's! None of my guitar's natural sound came through, just this crappy honking distortion sound. Adjusting the mid frequency allowed me to tailor the pitch of the "honk", and the bass control did create quite a rumble, but no matter what the setting was, it was always that crappy, raspy, "Maybe if I use this, I'll score with chicks" sound. You'll never catch Eddie Van Halen messing with one of these things. Maybe the fat guy from Grim Reaper.

Well, it's a BOSS. It could take a sidewinder missle up the rectum and just crap it back out. My 1-year-old kid likes to pick up effects pedals and throw them around. Normally I discourage that, but with this pedal being a BOSS, I just let him do it. It was fine.

I wouldn't buy it again. I have a Peavey Tube-Fex, and I'm not real keen on taking it to gigs where there are voltage spikes, flying beer, and generally high levels of wear, tear, and confusion. I was looking for a $50.00 stomp box to use in place of the Tube-Fex's kick-ass grunge sound. This one didn't cut it. I also have an old Tube-powered pedal that, when plugged into an overheated tube amp, gives me the smokin' sound I want. I'll just stick with that.
If you're into monotone metal sounds, this is a great pedal. I'm not, so I got rid of it.

This pedal is one of the many extremely versitile dist. pedals Boss produces, the tone can range from B.B. King's tone to the meatiest Cannibal Corpse sludge (I believe one of the dudes in C. C. uses a Metal Zone). It occasinally takes some messing around to get the best tone but once you get it WRITE IT DOWN!! The knobs can get moved the slightest amount and throw off your whole sound.

It can be a very noisy if you have the level up too high, but I tend to like noise. You can get some amazing feedback with this pedal. I like the sound a flanger (ADA) and and octaver have going through it.

It is somewhat complex to get the tone down--- the eq has a high and low, and a parametric mid, so you can really tweak the internal frequencies. The manual is somehwat helpful for which knob does what, the examples are kind of lame, but this pedal sure isnt. I'm giving it a ten, once you figure it out, the complexity is worthwhile.

The effect can get some mild hum when your amp is on a high volume, but it is very low in comparison to most--- my amp's overdrive channel has more hum. The distortion is always kick ass! The thing made my 1x12 sound like a wall of stacks! I use a les paul, so there is no 60 cycle hum, but even on my strat I can hardly notice. Anyway, this pedal is meant to be PLAYED! I love the eq--- with some mild tweaking I got a completely chunky metallica sound, with a twist of a knob I made it an over-the-top pantera. If I normalize things a bit (not much!) it has a really throaty roar--- like a lion growling. I can get a great Randy Rhoades/Zakk Wylde sound--- pick squeals jump out of this thing on demand. I can even play some clapton with this thing, boosting the mids on it and my amp, and cutting the distortion knob all the way sounds great. Actually, the distortion sounds best at only about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up. It is really crisp that way, and has a lot of definition and cut.

This is the most important pedal in my setup. It rocks. For metal, you probablt can't get away with not having one. For rock, it kicks ass, and for alternative, well, for grunge at least this pedal would knock the heads off those in the mosh pit. Everyone should own this.

Once you get used to the EQ, it's a breeze. There's a High, Mid, Bass, and Parametric EQ, plus gain and volume. Extremely versatile for a pedal.

How good the pedal sounds depends alot on tweaking and abit on what type of amp you use. With a solid state amp, you get a very digital and somewhat sterile sound. Also you get noise, as you would with most high gain pedals. With a tube amp, oh mercy! You can basically get any sound you want by making the signal wet with minimal gain. You can go anywhere from a power crunch of Metallica to a very close reproduction of Eric Johnson (warning: MUCH tweaking necessary.) About the only sound I wouldn't recommend this pedal for is a bluesy solo sound. A bit too harsh for that.

This is the best metal pedal out there, and is alot more than that... really just a great pedal. Really great for playing quietly, since it gives that cranked stack sound at any volume. A great value. I'd buy it again, definitely. Oh, and in case you're not satisfied at first, keep tweaking, eventually you should get a good sound.
