To get a good sound out off this pedal you have to know the combinations like how many bass, treble, gain and so on.But it's not that hard to get a good sound just follow the manual that came with it.....But trust me...to get your own kind of sound be original.Try fiddling with it. You will naturally get the best out of this BOSS!!!

Sound Quality : 10
On sound i would say BOSS did their homework well.No squeaks, tweaks, nothing. The effects always sound great.Roaring and crunching.Perfect for Heavy Metal. But some people say even blues and country players use it.Now that's what i call good!!!

Reliability : 10
MT-2 metal zone.Dependable? You bet your fuckin asses!Use it on it's own or with a chorus,flanger,wah...anything goes.Although it sounds better with a huge cabinet installed to an amp.Very reliable thang!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never tried, never knew. For all i know they might as well shut down Customer Service Dept. after all it's not like they have to do much!!!

Overall Rating : 10
If i was that rich i'll buy tons of 'em.It really is great.Highly recommended.Comparing to DOD,MXR and all this thing serves it's purpose.Don't believe me??Ask all below me...see what they think.......

This pedal,i would say is quite eazee 2 use if u know how.You just need to get used to the settings, that's all.And fiddle with it...u CAN get the perfect sound.THe manual is quite simple and easy but use your own setting be original.

Sound Quality : 10
ON sound this shit couldn't have become better if not the BEST.I didn't find any noises even with the gain on full. It's perfect for crunching riffs.I know heavy metal fans will be pleased. But others don't despair coz it's right for other types of music too.ROCK ON METALHEADZ!!!

Reliability : 10
No need for anything to back u up...it's great on it's own although adding a powerful cabinet makes it sound much better and crunchier.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I don't get any problems so who the fuck gives a shit. For all i know boss doesn't even need to open up a customer service department!!

Overall Rating : 10
I'll definitely buy it again. What the fuck if i have the though i'll even buy 10!!!To compare it too others like Dunlop,DOD,this thing kicks-asses.It has helped me make my own thousand riffs.

Easy.

Sound Quality : 10
As much noise as most distortion pedals. The best heavy metal distortion I have heard from any effects unit. I can also get a decent blues crunch out of it with the gain turned all the way down.

Reliability : 10
Boss.

Overall Rating : 10
Does what it is suppose to do and does it well. That is saying alot in the realm of musical equipment.

actually this pedal is easy to use(if you got the manual that came with it, if not i don't think so)the manual has good suggestion to get sounds ..the best is of course heavy metal..personaly i think the manual is a bit cheap skate.

Sound Quality : 10
For sound this pedal rulezzz!!!!!!!!!This is the best distortion pedal i've ever come across.this baby is really mede for metal. If you want the crunch of metallica or megadeth this is your pedal. I used to have a DOD pedal but it wasn't as butt-kicking as the boss. Its also very versatile. you can get any sound you want.

Reliability : 10
you bet i can depend on this baby! This thing is lighter than the DOD though...i wonder why?..the DOD seems more solid but i'm sure the BOSS can survive a nuclear blast..

Customer Support : No Opinion
Who the fuck cares..

Overall Rating : 10
I will go buy it again if it passes away or something(i'm sure that won't happen!)At first i compared it to the DOD death metal but people say the DOD is a bit noisy so i got BOSS instead. THE Boss is cheaper too! 1 thing this pedal is ear piercing when i use it with my wah wah.overall this is a great pedal....a real value for money. GET IT NOW!!!!!!

if you know what you want its fine...otherwise good luck!

Sound Quality : 8
it is very noisy without a noise gate but being a distortion pedal i guess that's what it was built for! other wise the sound is very good and tight just dont turn it up past 5 or use a crappy tube or training amp for it will fuzz, perfect for playing with stacks(miked) or for recording at low levels.

Reliability : 10
if you've ever used a BOSS pedal before, you know the answer to this already...it's a tank.

Overall Rating : 10
i like vegetable soup.

I think it is fairly simple to use, once you get used to the parametric mids. The manual is a good way to get started.

Sound Quality : 9
The distortion is really good. However, when the distortion is cranked all the way, it oscillates.

Reliability : No Opinion
It hasn't failed me yet, but it really eats batteries.

Overall Rating : 8
I would buy it again because it is versatile and it sounds good. It is also reliable

if you use the manual you can get great sounds

Sound Quality : 8
i use this with a 10 watt gorilla amp and if i turn off the tube stack iys fine. I tried it with my new dod fx7 and had to turn off the distortion on the dod to stop constant feedback

Reliability : 9
you would need to drop it out of the empire state building to break this baby boss pedals are built like tanks

Customer Support : No Opinion
never needed it

Overall Rating : 9
I would buy it again its the best distortion pedal I EVER OWNED THIS PEDAL GIVES ME THE STYLE OF DISTORTION I NEED FOR MY PLAYING STYLE. I PLA BLACK SABBATH TYPE METAL AND IT DOES THE JOB

The parametric eq knobs are VERY versatile, but a little confusing to get used to at first, specifically the two-part midrange control. Once this is figured out though (my MZ didn't come with a manual), the tonal colors are great. Another big tip (at least for my setup): Get as good a clean sound from your amp as you can and tweak the distortion equalization from the pedal, NOT the amp.

Sound Quality : 10
I have a Carvin DC127 with an M22SD (Super Distortion, a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates is probably comparable) in the bridge position and with the distortion cranked to max on the MZ I get sustain for days. I have heard just about every distortion sound from a pedal imaginable - including BOSS' two new pedals (the Power Drive and Xtortion) - and nothing even comes close to this. This is the best distortion pedal you can buy today. No contest.

Reliability : 10
Hrmm ... it's a BOSS right? Of course you can depend on it. I would strongly recommend an AC adapter or the PSM-5 Power Supply and Master Switch. I would be very sad if a battery on low power caused me to get less gain than I required. I've never used a 9-volt with any of my BOSS pedals, but I have a feeling this would suck up the power. Only because of its constant use though. =)

Customer Support : 10
BOSS customer service? Isn't that a contradiction in itself, like "military intelligence" or "happily married"? This company should put the few people that probably work in the customer service areas and get them on the pedal design committees. I'll give them the "Incredibly kind and helpful" rating though. I have a feeling they would be.

Overall Rating : 10
As said by and about everyone else on here: This is the best distortion pedal you can buy on the market today. 'nuff said.

Its ok to sit around for hours find a setting then stay with that,. making changes and making it fit a different song is a difficult. ..unless the music is the same brand. Don't expect to do metal then classic rock on the fly during a set without making changes.

Sound Quality : 9
Quality of sound is good if it is used between the guitar and amp, if you use it in the effects loop, it will get noisy at higher gain settings. The effect sounds best when it's made to fit your instrument, ie pickup output or type. You have to adjust it when going from different guitars sometimes.

Reliability : 10
Only had it two weeks but I've never had problems with Boss effects.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 8
I don't know if I would buy it again, really. It doesn't do one basic thing that all my other units can do. This is important...when you dial in your gain on the effect, set up your amp, dial your p/u's on your guitar-that's it in the volume department. You may be getting a great sound, but there's no headroom if you increase volume on the guitar. Basically, once your setup is setup don't expect to push it up to come out of the mix, you cannot push more gain thru by increasing the guitar volume not on all settings but the thicker ones.

This pedal is pretty easy to use...6 "knobs" Level,Distortion, EQ High, Low, Mid and Mid Freq. I keep mine at one setting so I don't have to use the manual, I just memorized the settings. The manual was very helpful, it had sample settings...(Heavy Metal setting is the best)

Sound Quality : 10
This pedal is pretty quiet, unless the Highs and/or Distortion are turned up...what do you expect? I still hear buzzing thought, but it's just my single coil pickups, I tried this pedal with my friends guitar with humbucking pickups, it's VERY quiet. This pedal is THE BEST. The distortion is BUTT kicking. Great for metal and HARD rock.

Reliability : 10
Just like everyone else says....It's a BOSS. Built STRONGER than a tank. Better quality than my DOD pedal and a lot lighter. I would go to a gig without a backup with no doubt in my mind. These things are SUPER TANKS.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I never had to deal with these guys/girls and I probably never will.

Overall Rating : 10
I would buy it again and again if something horrable happened to it, but the way it's built I only have to worry about someone stealing it. I love this pedal...it gives out a SUPER distortion. I compared it to the HM-3, FZ-2, DS-1, and DS-2. This pedal was definently the best out of those, but remember that this is a made for METAL, so if your looking for a milder distortion, get the DS-1 or DS-2
