This unit is easy to get goods sounds out of it only if you know what you want. That's what I like about stompboxes as oppossed to rack effects, they make you work a little bit but utimtely you find a unique sound or your trouble.Boss make great pedals that usually have four knobs that really give you alot of options.

Sound Quality : 9
I got this thing because of mike Eniziger's(INCUBUS) playing and I thought there was something wrong with it becaue the battery light would only light up full red in certian sequences in my chain. It seemed to have a overly metalic sound that I didn't really like at first untill I discovered it's potential using this unique phase sound. I also have a MXR phase 100 pedal in my chain which is real warm and subtle and I was gonna get rid of the PH-2 untill I realized all the sounds I loved and couldn't figure out from Incubus' albums "make yourself" and "morning View" were created using this thing. The break down in "The warmth" where the guitar freaks out in harmonic overtones is mode 2 with depth and res cranked and the rate at about 7 or 8 o'clock. It's also used for the metallic haze sound for the guitar break in "wish you were here" Pretty much the same settings but the rate is faster. I was amazed when I captured the sounds exact. "Nice to know you" intro is mode 1 rate 1 o'clock, depth at about 12 or 1 with some delay and volume knob manipulation. This is why he has two of these things in his rig, there is great sounds on both mode 1 and two for those who look for them and tweak it to perfection

Reliability : 10
No one complains about boss

They would probaly charge for schematics but hopefully only at cost if I needed them. Not sure about em

Overall it is invaluable in my signal chain for the flexibility it provides. Once you find the cool effects it provides you may spend a little time bending down to change them on the fly but there real easy to remember and the mode switch is like two different worlds of tone.Or you have to get two set differently, which is kind of a bummer so I just change it before a song beings.Just remember if you want this thing, nothing is cool right out of the box, maybe we as guitar player's think we'll buy effects plug em in and i will make us sound great but you have to put some work in to it to find the hidden tones(boss pedals are great for that)And also this pedal is kind of a specialized type of phaser in that it has some great sounds but it is not a be all end type of deal. I need the MXR Phase 100 in my rig for a more tradional sounding phase that is smooth and subtle. The Super Phaser is far from that, in that it is astrongsoundineffect. I would suggest to listen to the aforementioned Incubus songs to hear it in action becauseyou can get those tones exact with it with some tweaking.

I love the sound of this pedal but i am going to add a Dunlop MXR phase 90 with my rig of 98 American Deluxe Fat Strat/98 Squier Standard Strat/95 Ibanez Rg450Dx>>>>Dunlop Original Crybaby>>Electro Harminox Big Muff pi>>Boss Super Phaser>>>>>>>Marshall MG215RCD and right now i love this settup it is working for my getting my own tone and getting a start on lots of effectslike i said im getting a phase 90, im also planning to add a Tube Retrosphere and a boss dd-5 all in my conquest to my own improved Mike Einzger sound(the guitarist from Incubus)but to get my more metal sound i need to get myself one of those new mesa f-series amps i tried one out before christmas and i fell in love but its got to be a true chorus amp.

um.. i fail to see how a stomp box wouldnt be easy to use.. i always thought thats kinda the reason for a pedal.. if you wanted something overly complicated, thats what rack mount stuff is for.

Sound Quality : 9
i run a gibson les paul or a epiphone chet atkins sst thru a boss ds1 distortion, oc2 octave, ibanez de7 delay/echo, boss rv3 reverb delay, 2 ph2 phasers(been listening to too much incubus), small stone, ce3 chorus, mxr blue box, ns2 noise gate, proco rat, into a line6 flextone xl with an extra 2x12 cabinet.
certain pedals come in and out of the chain depending on what im playing like the bluebox/noise gate, or the excessive amount of phasers. i have a phase 90 too but i dont play with it that much. actually one ph2 phaser is plenty.. you can get many many cool sounds out of a phaser and a chorus.. actually having two phasers set at different rates gives you some really cool phasing effects. really one doesnt need that many coloring effects but i think this is easily one of the better phasers. you have lots of control over the length and amplitude of the wave, it is easy to set, and really responsive. theres a wide range of sounds that you can get from one of these babys. This is a great phaser, its a plus that its reasonably priced. id say the small stone sounds a bit richer but you have lots more control from the ph2. if youre gonna get a phaser, i think this is a really affordable and good phaser. Also .. this pedal is quite quiet. i get little hiss from the pair of ph2's.

Reliability : 10
i had 2 for a few years now, and theyve been steped on lots, my ce3 is beat to heck and its from the 70's or so.. if that thing still works i have no worries about any of my boss pedals.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt with em.

Overall Rating : 8
i play lots of stuff.. i play a dave matthews style rock + effects, and an incubus/tool style rock.. im also a bassist so i do lots of r&b,rap, and funk style tunes.. im pretty all around musically. the phaser actually works nice on bass too. howevner as far as guitar work goes its a great pedal. i like it lots .. its a really good match for any metal music phasing. works good distorted, clean. actually its a bit quiet distorted.. its nice after the distortion. but i more commonly use it infront because i want my distortion after some of my other effects. i also own a ibanez soundgear bass, and a fender b-100 bass amp. like i said before, the phaser works well with that too. If i lost this. id try to buy another one. as far as making music goes, i tend to try making music without any effects, when making music, i tend more to play with the knobs than write good songs.
this is a good buy. my favorite phaser. good stuff.

Although the knobs are a bit small, it is one of the simplest pedals to use.

Sound Quality : 10
The sound blew me away. I play a fender american strat through a fender stage 100 amp. I also have a cry baby wah pedal and boss ds-1 distortion. I have found out the about every boss pedal has a great sound. And this phaser was no different. I lke to play alot of Lynyrd Skynrd, my own stuff, and weezer. I don't really like to copy others peoples sound in my music, but when i'm playing in my basement I can.

Reliability : 10
They come in a metal case for god sake. I can not only depend on it I could also stomp it with my foot. You only need 1 of each boss pedals.

I have had many pedals and boss are the best or one of the best. They never come up short. I have noticed if you buy like a piece of junk pedal such as a danelectro mini pedal. You might complain that a distortion pedal hardly has enough distortion if you vary from heavy tones to mild crunch. With any boss pedal you can get a variation of tones. I got i great deal on mine only 45 dollars because it was the one the store had on display.

Fairly complicated for a guitar stomp box... Hmmm. There is a wide response from small changes in the knobs. This is very useful for special effects.

Sound Quality : 10
As phasers go, this one is beautiful. I like using this with "stringy" synth patches and toy keyboards- very Charlie's Angels. I've used it with guitars, vocals, drums, pretty much anything. It's fun. A lot of studio reverbs and delays just don't do phasing quite like this one.

Reliability : 10
Yes. Yes. Yes. Boss pedals cost a little more than the rest and this is why. I have a big box of dead pedals from a local shop- and there ain't a single BOSS in the bunch. Plenty of Ibanez and DOD, but no BOSS. Y'all MUST know this by now.

Customer Support : 8
It's available.

Overall Rating : 10
I love it. I run a home recording studio. I play f**ked up electroacoustic mathjazz with toy instruments. I probably use this pedal more than any of the delay, chorus or distortion pedals.

Its not exactly plug in and there you go, but a good tweaker will be very, very satisfied. I bought it new but it didnt have a manual, i wouldnt use it anyway.

Sound Quality : 9
I would highly suggest not using this with a heavy distortion. I think through a decent tube amp and usually a guitar with the neck pickup on it sounds killer. (I know this is very dependant on the guitar) but the ones I tried it out on the bridge pu (both singles and humbuckers) sounded rather thinish. I really got into phase because of Mike Einziger of Incubus. I understand he has one. I really dont wish to replicate his tone-- but it is pretty easy to get your own out of the box.

Reliability : 10
I refuse to say what has been said so many times before about Boss pedals.

Customer Support : No Opinion
i doubt you would ever need them, but ive e-mailed them before and they neglected to write back. Ive heard some pretty bad things about it though.

Overall Rating : 10
I play a jazzy rock fusion thing really. It works really really well on an acoustic. I think it is quite versitile and very high sound quality. I forgot to mention previously, the thing has 2 modes mode one is very warm smooth, its kind of flowing-- more so than mode two. Mode two has an MXRish tone that is way to digital sounding. But overall i think it is a stellar buy. The best sound ive gotten out of it was at my church. We plugged it into a DI box and my Ibanez Acoustic (yes, i know- ibanez, this guitar has a great tone though!) and it sounded sooo warm through the house PA.

Pretty easy to use, although how hard could it be?

Sound Quality : 10
I have a Laney TF200 amp, a Ibanez DDL digital delay, and an Ibanez RG565. This pedal sounds alright with this setup, but im not really a big fan of the sound... this pedal comes into its own however when used with an acoustic. i have (well actually borrow... thanks dad!) an ovation elite acoustic/electric which sounds awesome by itself, but when used in combination with the delay and phaser it sounds absolutely incredible. i didnt used to like 'spoiling' the tone of the acoustic with effects, but that was before i actually heard it.

never dealt with them, doubt ill ever have to

Overall Rating : 10
i play alternative melodic rock and this pedal really enhances the sound of some of our more mellow acoustic songs. it actually belongs to our drummer but if he lost it id buy myself one if he wasnt going to. ive been playing about 8 years and have previously owned one very tinny fender frontman amp, 2 multi effects units, a dunlop crybaby which i sold during a period of apparent insanity (im now looking to buy another one) and a cheap ibanez strat copy. im much happier with my current setup! (apart from the wah)
this pedal does wonders for the acoustic but i dont use it much with my electric, although it is cool for soloing.

This pedal's definitely easy to use. There are a lot of variations avaliable in this pedal, but this doesn't make it any more difficult to use. The manual's a bit helpful, only because this was my first Boss pedal. Other than that, you don't really need the pedal.

Sound Quality : 10
I love this pedal. It's definitely my favorite modulation pedal. For me, it added a large new spectrum of sounds to my guitar arsenal. You can use it as a thick wavy phasing sound, or a very deep flanger. Personally I use this as a flanger more than I use my actual flanger. I generally do not use it with my distortion, but it sounds stellar with a delay. To give you a good idea of what this pedal sounds like, I'd pick up a copy of Incubus' "Make Yourself" if I were you. You can play songs ranging from "The Warmth" to "Nowhere Fast" to "Pardon Me" and make them sound exactly like the recording. This pedal fits with many different styles of music. I love this pedal and will always keep it im my setup.

Reliability : 10
It's a Boss. What can I say, they're built like tanks.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had a problem with it so far.

Overall Rating : 10
It may be $90 bucks but hey, the sounds I've created with this thing far surpass that ninety bucks. I play all different things, but mostly rock, leaning to harder rock. I've set it up against DOD, Dunlop, Danelectro, Ibanez, and other various phasers, and this is my favorite. If it were stolen or lost, I would definitely replace it. My only wish is that its rate knob was a little less sensitive. Other then that, it's an amazing pedal.

This is a really easy pedal to use. The instructions that come with can even teach a monkey on how to operate one of these (although that has yet to be seen...)

Sound Quality : 9
I am using a Kramer Baretta and an Ibanez RG470FM into a Quantum 20 watt amp. It pretty noisy one really high settings, but it's uneccessary to venture off into those settings. It gives a high pitched sound at high settings, and it gets to ya after a while. Other than that, the sound is great. I use Mode I more than Mode II, but Mode II has it's place.
If you are trying to get Mike Einziger's (Incubus) sound, this is the perfect pedal for you. The swirling effect is great and can go real deep with the effect.

This pedal says Boss. Enough said.

Never contacted them, and probably never will need to.

Overall Rating : 10
This pedal is perfect for my style (Incubus). If I lost this, I'd beat myself and buy a new one If someone stole it, I'd find out who and beat em up and take it back. I love the swirly effect, especially on the cleans. It broadens my sound and is nice change to hear soothing clean music in my garage, rather than hardcore-punk whatever you hear in every other garage.

if you've been playing electric guitar for at least 2 years,i think this pedal wont drive you nuts when youre trying to figure it out.if its your first time to use this pedal, just start the dials at the low levels, then you can start to experiment.it didnt come with a manual.

Sound Quality : 8
i use it with a mexican tele,an od-2,a hyper metal, and this one, through a fender princeton.it sounds good on clean and distorted signal, but it has the tendency to have this squeaky irritating sound when you dont adjust the knobs properly.i feel like billy corgan when i play this box,it sounds close on "thru the eyes of ruby" and "by starlight"

Reliability : 9
this pedal would still work the next 200 years,i trust boss cause they make strong stomp boxes, ive proven this to myself,i never really took care of my equipment back when i bought this pedal,it got soaked in water,i spilled fish sauce on it,my friend tried to light this thing up,my cousin jumped on it the knobs were bent, but it still works,i have great confidence in boss products.i dont use back up on effects.

i have no idea.how do i upgrade this thing?

i play alternarock, experimental rock music, for crazy experimentalists like me,this pedal will drive you like a mad scientist.actually i gave this pedal to my friends, cause i left to go to california, and im planning to buy the same pedal.it is has a good modulating sound, when i play i put it on the 1st level, then turn the knobs almost to zero, then i get this wavy swirling sound, and i always keep it on on this setting.it gives me more songs to write,im so regretfull i gave it away.
