Well, this gadget is some of the best in the market, Boss has improved
this phaser turning it into PH-3, however this PH-2 is still amazing,
excellent phasing sounds, from subtle ones to very deep spinning effects, you can get supersonic plane sounds, light rotary sounds and robotic sounds when combined with distortions.
it is also very quiet I play it with a fender telecaster with the next effect chain: Morley wah/volume, Boss OS-2, Danelectro Cool Cat, Boss PH-2 and Boss DD-5.
In fact I fell in love with this super phaser since the first time i tried it at a music store.

I would buy it again, it is marvelous, excellent value, this green device is absolutely superior than other ones. i recomend it so much to any Guitar effects maniac.
I play mostly rock, alternative, blues and dream pop, this phaser matches really OK with all my styles.
Someone has bitched up its resonance control as useless, maybe it's useless for him, I think resonace makes a great difference for the tons of sounds you can find in a phase shifter like this.

Four knobs, one of which actually selects between two modes...so ten minutes as opposed to five. Dial in a Rate and Depth you like, turn the resonance to Zero, and try not to Kill the first half hour of practice playing the same 2 power chords over and over, listening to this little booger (its green) churn and pump. It would be nice to be able to footswitch between modes one and two, but this would involve using a pedal for your pedal, and i cant bring myself to do that. The resonance knob is useless to me; anywhere over 9 o'clock produces hissy, icepick tones that really arent guitarry at all. A mix control would have suited my needs a lot better. Though its not perfect, Im not down on this pedal; like i alluded to before, its extremely easy to waste time with this unit, just twiddlin knobs and letting chords evolve on their own.

I bought this box new in 1993 so were old friends by now. Ive used it with a bunch of different gear in a wide range of situations, to say the least. Ive had several different rackmount processors, more than a couple all-on-the-floor deals, and eventually I always return to a few Boss pedals and a Combo. If i have an extra cord i put it in the FX loop, where it really shines, but on those lazy days, it sounds good in the front end too, though it needs some sort of gain boost in front of it to really get it whirring good. One bit of advice, this pedal is definitely special sauce...kick it on once or maybe twice a gig, dont plan on building a sound around it. Keeping the knobs low can give pretty smooth, almost vibrato-ey, watery sound, but its obvious this babys forte is more dramatic swooshing effects...if youre looking for over-the-top, audition this pedal. Its my understanding they (Boss) has come out with a PH-3. You may want to try that one also, or grab a PH-2 while you can...this one is assured to climb in price (Much like the RV-2 i own). Bottom line; ive seen her at her best, ive seen her at her worst.

Like I said, bought new in 93. Since then its been dropped from various heights on every imaginable surface, left in the sun, left in the snow, gotten wet, gotten soaked, had beer spilled on it, had a cat pee on it, kicked, stood on, stomped on WAY too hard, pinned with one foot while the other popped the cords out, run with power sources from 7.5v to 12v (YIKES!), thrown in the back of countless amps, fallen out of the back of most of them, and had the battery changed about 200 times. ALL of this has actually happened to this poor pedal, and it works like a champ. Not only is she ultra reliable, her replaceability brings me a lot of peace of mind. Something happens to it (jeez, hope something doesnt happen to it, huh?), i can get a brand new one in a couple of days for eighty bucks...unlike those old univibes.

The only time i ever dealt with Boss it was to tell them how much i liked their stuff, so obviously feedback was pretty good. Whether or not they'll turn on you in the event of a problem is anyones guess. Past experience coupled with doubt ill ever need them leads to high marks here.

A Les Paul, and a kingston. Fender Princeton 112 plus. Always sounds very strong. When some levels are turned up high, it makes very unusual sounds. That I've described as sounds that can only be used to say "Hey, listen to what I can do!"

I use a Les Paul thru a pedal board that goes: dunlop cry baby wah, digitech xp-100 whammy/wah, boss ds1 distortion, boss ph2 super phaser, boss dd5 digital delay, then to a marshall jcm 2000 dsl and 1960 4x12" cab. i play mostly funk metal, with my main influences coming from rage against the machine, 311, incubus, and red hot chili peppers. this pedal kicks so much ass and really fattens up the overall tone. it replaces a dod ice box chorus that i used to use because with this pedal there is such a variety of sounds you can get. i like it a lot better than the mxr phase 90 because the boss can adjust intensity and the mxr can't.

this is an update of a previous review from 12/25/99........i sold the thing a month after cuz i realized it was way to present (too "digital" if you will)......so in my opinion, the sound quality is not the best.....i prefer an MXR phase 90......more subtle....(i am also going to try out the new ph-3 for curiosity's sake.....

Went to buy one at steves music store in montreal. tried the PH-2 Super Phaser ,turns out i was not so impressed as i thought i would be, it sounded pretty thin, more like a light wah effect so i dident buy one, i was disapointed in the sound + its not stereo and so i bought a boss Flanger instead. that aint stereo either but it sounds rich and creamy. isent that what we all want? i dident notice any annoying levels of noise.
hell could hardly notice the effect.LoL
no but seriously it was a little too subtil for me.
this pedal was tried on an ibanez guitar on a peavy 50w amp
dident get a chance to test it on synths wich could could have yielded a different review.
i would keep it if given to me.
but try it and see what YOU think, compare it with a couple of other
phasers and conclude. never decide on a pedal by a review alone! if it feels good when you play its the right one for you!
besides there is a new one out the ph 3 will try it soon.

i own a nord lead2 the virus and an emu e5000 a 909 and 808
and a 350mhz pc
its possible that the effect can be different on a synth
possibly more profound phasing can be heard.

I use a Crate GFX-120 as my amp. The entire system goes Sledghammer guitar (very nice I might add)>PH-2>Dunlop wah>Danelectro overdrive>amp. I love the ambiance of this effect, but when used with the amps distortion (which I do quite a bit) it digitizes the sound way too much. Also when used with crybaby you get some very unpleasant peaks but this is a good way to "cool" the effect off at times. With the wah pedal all the way back that is. If you want to play some hardcore funk turn the mode to "II" and let loose! Great for funk-metal.

I use this pedal with a danelectro distortion,Boss delay,Ibanez auto-filter,Ibanez flanger.The sounds are very,uh...liquid.Funkadelic used phasors,flangers,and auto-filters alot,even on keyboards.This phasor really gets close,very close.

This phasor is different than most I think. It's wilder than the Mutron
2 and is more flexible.I use the Mutron 2 for lead guitar because it's more subtle, more nasal sounding. But for rythym, this Boss phasor will get lots of work.
