Yep, 3 is a low score. It's designed to be used with other controllers. There is simply no way to get to most of the parameters unless you use the controllers or midi, which is not documented in the manual. The four knobs on the right only control a few of the parameters, you have to find a preset you like. The unit has 3 types of effect: reverb, non-linear reverb and reverb+delay. To get the one you want you have to choose an appropriate preset.

Noisy. Once the effect pot gets up to 1 o'clock position you can hear noise, it sounds like it is breathing. I have it set up with top quality cables so it's not the enviroment. The noise is coming from the effect engine. Simply not a professional peice of kit.

Hahaha, Roland? Yeah sure. Well I did find the manual online at the Roland site, so I do appreciate that.

I got this second hand to go with my analogue synth, mainly for the delay and a touch of reverb - I didn't need a fancy peice of equipment. But the noise is terrible. Behringer and others are selling very cheap multiprocessors these days for $100, so I think I will return this and get a Behringer. The effect doesn't have to be great, and the reverb doesn't have to be super natural, but at least these cheap new products will be quiet.

Extremely easy to use!! Dont really need the manual---just start it up and you are in biz!! It does take a little playin with to get it just where you want it, but thats a good thing. Eventually, to really get the full value out of this RV-70, you will want to set down and read the manual. It has some pretty deep features that you wont find without the manual.

This is some clean reverb indeed!! Dont know what's up with the last 2 reviewers, but I think they might have got lemmons or just hooked it up wrong cuz mine is AWESOME!! Some of the best reverb you will ever find for the $!! I have not noticed any extra noise either.

This is where Boss unfortunately falls short. They are not known for the greatest support, but it kind of depends on who you talk to. So, I give a 5 on this feature.....

I play all kinds of music from Jazz to Techno and been playing for over 25 years. I do guitars, keys and some drum work too, as well as vocals. This was a STEAL for what it gives you in warm & lush reverbs. Many variations too. You gotta have good reverb, but you dont have to spend a fortune!! If I lost this puppy, Id have to try and find another--I wouldnt think twice about getting this one again.

I didn't get a manual with this. I usually go through the presets until i find what i'm looking for, or something close. This unit seems very akward to use, and program, but may be because i do not have a manual. This box was left at my appartment a couple of years ago. The guy who left it still has my zoom 505. I would rather have the zoom, and I never liked it either.

This unit suffer in this area also. Most reverbs sound very clicky, or just not thick enough. Can sound very one dimmensional, even on most extreem settings. Unfortunately I dont see annother reverb in my budget soon.

I use this in my home studio. It is my only reverb unit, and I dont like it much. Luckilly I get most of my reverbs via plug-in effects. This box might be useful live as a backup or non primary reverb, but wouldn't reccomend for recording, even if it was free.

I did not get a manual with this, so i must rate a 7 here. It seems hard to get delay when the preset does not already have delay. limits things. i really need a manual for this thing to operate it correctly i think. looks eaSY,but they fooled me.

I'm not extremely pleased with this purchase. I read these reviews here, and felt it would be better. I also trust Boss stuff in general, but this particular unit was nothing of desire. DOnt get me wrong, the effects and stuff offered are GREAT, however the noise is a huge problem. this is a very noisy unit, and the more noise you get as you turn the effect knob. so if you like lots of reverb, get something else. this thing is so noisy and hisses constantly. even my noise suppressor didnt clean it up very well. Also, distortion sounds really weird, and in a bad way with this, but this problem happens often with reverb processors on amp distortion. I also own an Alesis Nanoverb, which in my opinion is 10 better than this rv-70. May wanna try one of these instead. THe sounds here on the rv-70 are nice and warm...especially the reverbs. delay could be a lot better.

I play rock instrumental music, mostly ballads and uptempo rock n roll. I'm also involved w/ a techno/goth band. This rv-70 unit fits well with both actually, as long as i'm not using amp distortion. i've been playing for about 5 1/2 yrs, and own all sorts of boss effects, wolfgang peavey guitars, and tons of other gear. I would not bu this again, i'd go for a lexicon mpx or something. I also own a Alesis NanoVerb, and i pick it over the boss most anyday. the Boss is there just for weird sounds and variety here and there. I wish it had a built it Rocktron Hush! this thing hisses to the point of no return!!

Seems to be pretty straightforward. The manual is just about the right size and not so cryptic that it actually makes sense. I'll give it an 8 out of neutrality as I have little to say here.

Score!!!!! This thing sounds great. In the store I wanted a dedicated reverb unit so i compared this to a few other processors including the Lexicon MPX100 (I was unimpressed) and it just sounded soooo much better than the other units. In addition you can add delay if you like and tweak it as you see fit. A real winner, especially as I got it brand new as a discontinued item for 150 bucks!

Too new to tell. I use it mostly in the studio and I rarely need to use it live. Seems ok and Roland has a great reputation for dependability. I will leave this unanswered for now.

I play alternative in a band situation and I also study Jazz so i need sparkling cleans as well. This fits nicely in all the genres. I have been at this over 15 years and have gone through damn near all the toys around and I am pleased with this bugger. If stolen, I would buy another as long as I could find it. I hope it was discontinued because they have a newer one in production. This is truly a fine unit.

It's fairly easy to get a good sound out of this box. Although it's limited to rev/rev+delay and LNR reverb it's quite versatile. I LOVE the NLR thing. It's a shame Boss didn't make more of it's great MIDI control-functions. I found EVERY single parameter is accessible through MIDI controllers!! Contact for more info....

It's got a great sound IMHO. Esp. for the money. It's got that typical Boss sound to it. Very thick reverbs. I like it, but they're not very natural. Delay is not too freaky and I don't use it a lot. LNR is WILD! 5 filters in 1 envelope (or something like that, dificult to explain. I wonder if the guy who wrote the manual understood...:)

very easy to use. Roland/Boss manuals are sort of confusing the rv-70 had a whole section devoted to using it with some other boss or roland product. still rv has 6 knobs 4 to control variables and one for input and output. it also has 6 buttons, 2 to scroll thru 199 presets, one to store changes to presets, one to control midi stuff, one to defeat the dry signal out and the power switch.

I would definately buy it again. I love the ease of use and quality of the reverbs. I also love the price. with effects processors trying to squeeze more and more into an inexpensive price, most have become a jack of all trades and master of none. I briefly owned the Alesis midiverb 4 (see my complete review of that) and while it had some good sounds, the quality was not what I would have expected from a major studio equipment manufacturer. if you need good reverb and can't fork over thousands of dollars for one of those pro verbs, this is the unit for you.

Completely intuitive. Four knobs control different parameters depending on whether you're using reverb, reverb + delay, or "artificial" reverb. The parameter changes are displayed numerically on the LED screen and can be stored. The "peak" LED is handy, and the manual is clear and straightforward. Editing patches is as simple as turning a knob and hitting "write", and you can also reset the unit to its original settings. I've found that the knobs control the right things when I'm editing.

The sound is very stout and clear--you won't find better for the money. The reverbs are rich and clean, and not noisy at all. The sound is natural and lush, and it is true stereo, with two ins and outs. The unit never overreaches itself; it does reverb and reverb + delay, and does it well. The presets are good; I usually can select one and simply turn down the effect level a bit to get a good sound for vocals or instruments. I'd call the sound strong, not thin or weak.

I haven't had it long enough to say for sure, but it seems very well built, with a metal chassis and smooth knobs. I have confidence in it; it's not fragile.

Reverbs I've used before have seemed a bit hissy, or excessively "effected". The reverbs in the RV-70 are crisp and clear, not overprocessed or artificial. It's definitely musical; I've been using it with my 4-track and it can go from very subtle, tight reverb to spacious atmosphere. Before buying it, I compared it with other under-$500 units like Alesis and the Digitech Studio Quad. I went for its price, simplicity and the solid reputation of Boss - few frills, but reliable. It's not for those who love to tweak 12 parameters for every effect, or combine 7 effects at once, but its simplicity is its strength. It would be nice to have some empty preset numbers to store modified presets in, but as there's only 4 parameter knobs to work with, it's easy to jot down settings if you don't want to change the preset. If you're looking for a complex multi-unit with every adjustment imaginable, look elsewhere. But this unit sounds great, is very inexpensive and works intuitively.
