Obviously having only three knobs it's always gonna be quite easy to get a nice sound out of.....but I'm not sure about the wave,,,,I've tried all different types of setting but I'm still not sure exactly how much difference there is with the sound.

I use Fender Pro Reverb > Les Paul Custom > BOSS DS-1 > BOSS TR-2.
The sound is very clean whether used with or without the distortion.
There are not too many variations of sound with the unit but it does the job.
I first got interested in buying a Tremolo unit from hearing Creep and Planet Telex by Radiohead....both of these can be reproduced easy...the verse to Creep especially sounds excellent.
As always I would recommend trying this b4 buying.
It was a little expensive (#72) but it's good value as these Boss units last a lifetime.

Not bad at all.....despite the slightly steep price.
The only other thing is the wave......if anyone has any suggestions for what to do with it...let me know.

Very easy. Like most boss pedals it is all self explanatory - no hidden buttons just three dial for speed, depth and waveform.

It is actually quite versatile. at fast setting with a shallow depth u can get quite nice murky sounds and if u use a bit of chorus and eq it right u can get it sounding like it's underwater. the triangle wave form is pretty good, can go from really nice fender-amp type tremelo (great for "the burning red" by machinehead) to quite full-on (in a nice way). however, the square wave from is a bit of a let down. i was hoping for the razor sharp vision of disorder type shimmer, but just couldn't get it. the square wave is definetly not square, and at fast speeds is horribly obvious. it tends to take the attack of the sound especially when using distortion so u get a very muddy sound. a bit dissappointing.

Pretty good. If u want hugely in-your-face tremelo then i'd get the jim dunlop or voodoo labs models because they are infinetly better at producing that type of sounds. it's also quite expensive for something that doesn't always deliver the sound u want.

This pedal is very easy to use. There are three knobs and that's it. You just have to know what sound you wanna hear(dick dale or Rolling Stones'Gimme Shelter) and mess around with the knobs 'till you got it.

I use four guitars. A Epiphone Les Paul, A Cort Model, a Fender Strat, and A TCS copy strat for drop D tuning. I've got a lot of amps and cabinets I use. A marshall JCM 800(2x for stereo), A fender Showman(twin reverb top), a Marshall JMP-1 with a Marshall 9200 power amp and a Mesa/Boogie triaxis with a Mesa/Boogie 20/20 power amp. I've got two Marshall 1936 cabinets, two marshall 1960b (4x12")and a Marshall 4x10" cabinet. I've got a switch unit to switch between my amps and cabinets. In my 19" rack I've got a Rocktron Patchmate and A rocktron Hush II, Alesis 31 band equalizer a Furman PL-8E, Samson VHF-1 transmitter, Line 6 POD and a switchunit for switching amps with the cabinets. On the floor I've got a Boss CH-1, MT-2, CS-3, PSM-5, NS-2, BD-2, Zoom 1010, Boss ME-X, Jim Dunlop JH-1 (Wah-Wah), Boss volume pedal, Boston volume pedal, Marshall P802 channel switcher, MXR Phase 90, and The BOSS TR-2. That pedal does everything I want and there's no noise. It got that real vintahge tremolo sound as well as modern "on/of" effect. It's a great unit. Buy it!

As far as getting the sound your after its really simple, but I play on a hollow body and get a lot of feedback even at low volumes (if anyone has any suggestions their please write me)

Epiphone Sheriton -> boss mt-2 -> tr-2 -> boss rv-2 -> crate tube amp
Already mentioned the feedback, other than that the sound is excellent. Gives a really thick bass sound and does the screaming metal distortion two. Three band EQ with sweepable mid really helps.

it worked perfectly but it was kinda annoying.I owned one but then after about a week of owning it I got really bored with it and traded it in cause I needed money and I didnt really need it that bad.It doesnt have that many options on its own but if you use it with a wah wah or a whammy pedal or both it can do some really weird things.when I owned one I had a flanger, phasor, metal zone, wah wah, whammy, envelope filter, and about 5 others and no matter what pedals I would use with the thing it would allways be really diffrent

I use a US Strat through a Fulltone Fulldrive and Supa-trem and then into a Fender Deville 2x12. I used to be really big on Boss pedals but not anymore. I started to notice that Boss pedals (along with most other cheaply made pedals) really jack up your tone. Don't be deceived! Just because you paid $100 doesn't mean that it wasn't made for $12 by someone in China. These pedals really color your sound. And the more that you run through, the worse your tone gets. It also produces this great "ticking" noise, even when it's not on! That made me real happy! After we'ed finish a song you would hear this "tick..tick..tick..tick.." This pedal doesn't really do all that much, but what can you ask for for a hundred bucks?

I experienced some difficulty with it. After about six months my adaptor stopped working with it, then it started again and then it stopped for good(?) I couldn't find any reason as to why. Then one day I was fooling around with it and I realized that the adaptor would only work when I put certain pedals after it! If I was only using the trem it wouldn't work! But if I ran my delay after it would! What's up with that? I was forced to use batteries and I hate that (toooooooo expensive!). But for the most part it was semi dependable.

I ended up selling it to some poor chap for $50.00. I bought a Fulltone Supa-trem and it blows the Boss away. It has more options and the sound quality isn't even comparable. But of course you pay for quality, right? I would try to talk anyone interested in buying this pedal to save up another hundred bucks and get the Fulltone. You will be pleased.

My setup : ESP M2 guitar into compression, distortion, Chorus, flange, E.Q, delay/reverb, and a handmade "sampler pedal" that I had made for me to sample passges then play over it if u get what I mean. I put the TR-2 at the very end of this cuz it gives at tighter tremelo sound i.e there is isn't any noise from the other pedals to interfere. The Tr-2 ALWAYS gives excellent sound quality. This is probably the favourite pedal I have. You can pretty much get evrything u want out of it from surf (not that I play surf) to new-wave-eighties type stuff to metal. Because this effect only changes the volume of the guitar it creates a new character for pieces but doesn't overbear the original idea, if u get my meaning.

I play basically experimental metal/hardcore. This pedal adds a very new-wave type of character to my guitar which is definetly a plus. It is definetly a big part of my sound. If it were lost I'd buy it again in a blink. This pedal definetly helps me make music. I am a complete tremelo freak - i totally love it. This is my third tremelo after the Jim Dunlop model and I had a Voodoo Labs one which died pretty soon after I got it (although it was third hand). My only complaint is the price which is a tad over budget for a lot of guitarists. If u are a tremelo fan like me you'll love it. If not, you'll still love it.

I run my Fender Am. Std. Strat through an Ibanez TS9DX, a Danelectro Daddy-O, the TR-2, and into a Fender DeVile 4x10. The TR-2 is incredibly versatile...I use it for rockabilly, garage, and surf, generaly, but it can fit with every style I play. You can get it to sound like a light chorus or a vibrato, as well. It sounds great with the reverb cranked and a touch of drive. If you're goin' for a swampy, dirty sound, reminiscent of the Cramps and the like, this is a great pedal.

As I play mainly swampy, surfy, rockabilly type music, a trem is vital part of my sound. This is the best one I've heard-vintage effects included. Because of the ability to select the wave type, this is the most versatile pedal of it's kind around...if you need a trem for any occasion, this is it. I would replace this pedal in a heartbeat. It's the first pedal I've ever had which encourages my creativity as opposed to discouraging it.

Well, I have to say I think I got what I paid for! I disagree with the guy who said that this tremolo doesn't have a shimmering quality, just clean up your sound, stick this pedal in front, and turn the waveform knob to the left (triangle LFO)....very sweet. However, the triangle wave patter, no matter how much depth you add, will not work well at all with distortion. For higher gain work with the tremolo, I turn the waveform know to the right (square LFO) and max out the depth. It sounds really nice, but the square wave sounds like shit when you put it on the clean channel...I would agree, it doesn't sound shimmery there. So, this thing is versitile, but you would have to have two of them to get the most out of the effect live, unless you were using the tremolo for only clean sounds on one song or only distorted parts on one song. Otherwise, I think this pedal has a really nice sound! Get an adapter, it's a battery sucker.

I have yet to play a real gig, or join a band for that matter, but I would probably trust this pedal without a backup. It's dependable enough, the casing feels like it could take a lot of shit. Of course, you NEED an adapter for ALL your pedals-never depend on batteries.

I really like this pedal. It helps me to make music, if that makes any sense. It sounds really great for melancholy clean passages, or out-of-control weird rhythmic riffs. It's a great pedal, but I think it would be cool to experiment with using two at the same time. The only thing I've got a complaint about is the absence of dynamics. You can't have a subtle depth with this thing and still be heard-you have to turn the depth knob all the way up, or else the effect will be drowned out by your playing. Otherwise, a cool pedal.

First of all, the QUALITY of the sounds it has is excellent, but the VARIETY of sounds it makes is limited. Don't get me wrong, the sounds it makes are good, but I was expecting more from it (especially since it retailed at a $160 bucks at one time!). It does have a great "Riders on the Storm" quality to it though and I like having it just for that sound.
The "square wave" side of the sound isn't quite as square as I had hoped it would be. A friend of mine has the Jim Dunlop Tremolo and it has a great square wave sound. Also, the Boss doesn't "glisten" as much as it should; When I hear a really great tremolo I can picture the sun glistening off the water rippling on the ocean - this pedal doesn't exactly take me all the way there. The Dunlop, on the other hand, did have some nice surfer qualities to it. I will be giving it more scrutiny the next time I get a chance to use it.
I'm not trying to knock the Boss TR-2, it has a very good tremolo sound, just a little drier. I guess you could call it a more straight forward tremolo sound. I use it for a very subtle effect since I found that it starts to get irritating as I increase the depth. It does have a vintage quality to it, but I agree with one of the previous reviews: It ain't no Fender!

My main incentive for getting the TR-2 was that I bought it from a co-worker for real cheap. My main incentive for keeping it is that it's about the most compact tremolo around (I don't have alot of space left on my effects board). It does have that one good sound I like, so I can find ways to use it.
I enjoy its basic tremolo sound, but I thought it was going to be a little more diverse. If the square wave had a harder edge I'd be content with it. If it "glistened" more I would love it. If lost, I'd probably look around for something else, but I'll probably keep it just to have that one good sound in my collection. It might be perfect for someone else though, just try it out first just to make sure.
