Horrible! Before testing this device in a guitar shop, I've read some fine reviews here and was wondering about the latest ones who complained about it beeing rather noisy. I wanted to hear it myself and have to say that it is sad but true: This sucker is noisy as hell!! The guy in the shop tried to argue at first, but in the end he had to give it up. This thing sucks, it is one of the noisiest pedals I've ever heard.

I don't like to say it, but this bastard really deserves a low rating. How come a respected and well known company like Boss make such a pedal? Unbelievable, but true. It is absolutely useless because of the hiss. I have some vintage pedals from EH and MXR and I can take a good amount of noise. But this damn thing is the unmatched king of hiss...

I'm using TR-2 with a Fender Blues Junior and Godin LG equipped with P90's. There is a slight increase in noise when using this effect that is more noticable when you have the gain of the amp turned up. Also there is the swishing noise which is typical of all tremolo stomp boxes. The TR-2 produces an adequate tremolo effect, compared to some of the better units on the market (Voodoo Labs, Dunlop, Fulltone and Carl Martin) I would say its on the weak side.

I don't use tremolo often however I do play a couple of country songs where tremolo is required. There are better units on the market however I wasn't interested in paying two to three times more for an effect that doesn't get used often. The TR-2 gets the job done and comes in a well built compact package.

Hm, I can't belive it, but this is by far the worst pedal I've ever listend to!!! Noisy as hell!! It has a great sound and I would have bought it imediately, but the noise was too much to take. It was noisier than an Ibanez Smash Box! I still don't get it. I checked everything, the cables, the guitar, the amp, but it was this pedal. All the other pedals I compared it to where dead quiet, buth this thing... Absolutely useless!

I'm a big Boss fan, there is an OD-3, PH-3, DD-3 and TU-2 on my board. I really wanted to have a tremolo, but this was simply a POS! I think I have to look for another brand this time, maybe a Marshall Vibratrem or a VL Tremolo? No matter if it was broken or not, it was a brand new item in the shop, so it's just too sad that Boss puts out such crap.

Like the other reviews have already stated- simple effective pedal with only 3 knobs- Rate, Depth and Wave adjustments.
I got mine used and it didn't have a box and manual, but how hard can it be to work something this simple!
It simply does what it is supposed to do!

Even though I'm a bass guitarist, I like the more adverse sounds that guitar FX pedals create, and the TR-2 is a great, ear catching unit for bass. when my band recorded its first demo a few years ago, I wanted a vibrato or something like that on my bass track for the intro of one song. the only thing the studio had at the time was a Peavey tube tremolo rack that had a NASTY ground hum. As a result, the track didn't come off as well as I'd hoped it would.
As soon as I found the TR-2 for sale in the used bin at my local haunt (shouts to Central Music in Welland, On.!!!!), I had to grab it and incorporate it into my rig.
Being a bass guitarist, I find the level drops a slight bit when I'm using it, but otherwise, it sounds great, isn't noisy and best of all, doesn't draw a ton of power from my FX board supply!
The Pedal board- Roland FV-50 dual volume pedal, DOD FX-35 octave, Tech 21 Sans amp GT-2, TR-2 tremolo, BF-2 Flanger, DC-2 Dimension D, Custom built power supply.

I have gone through a ton of Boss gear, but not in a bad way! I usually trade off stuff every once in a while, trying to stay fresh and with the tide of music, but I think this bad boy will be around in the rig for a long time!
Since the pedal is still relativly new on the market, I wouldn't hesitate to get another if it got stolen (beware thieves- you gonna have to remove some serious strapping on my pedal board to get ANYTHING off of it (except for the volume pedal, which is due for replacement!)

my setup is: Fender Telecaster MIM/Ibanez A120 (335 copy), MXR dynacomp, dunlop wah, proco rat, boss DS-2, EH small clone, TR-2, boss dd-3 to a carvin belair 212
only minor complaint is the depth knob could go a little deeeper, like a complete mute, but its fine the way it is

The best tremolo pedal money can buy. Being a total vintage amp queer,I'm REALLY into tremolo. I've had every tremolo pedal on the market....Demeter,Dunlop,you name it. This one is great,IT DOESN'T KILL YOUR GAIN AND LEVEL WHEN YOU TURN IT ON. It also doesn't boost your level TOO MUCH like the Demeter does. It's quiet,it gets awesome soft or hard wave tremolos, speed control parameters are just right...what else could you want??

I play alot of stuff and i use it mainly on piano, organ and strings sounds, to give the rotary effect (with a bit of phase)

I borrowed this from a friend for a week. I use a MIM Fender Tele, with a CE-5, an RV-2 for reverb and a home made amp through a marshall half stack. The TR-2 sounds good, but not great. This pedal needs a sine wave setting! You just can't get that warm throb sound with triangle and square waves.

I play in a band with piano, guitar, drums and vocals, with a style similar in a way to ben folds five, and lot of radiohead influence. The reason I'm writing this is that I am hoping that someone from BOSS (or another company) reads this and listens to what I would find useful in a tremolo.
1. More versatile wave settings i.e. the ability to have sine, square and triangle waves and maybe even combinations. (maybe even new ones? sawtooth?)
2. A tap tempo input. This would be the most incredible feature for any pedal that I can think of. A tap tempo input would enable you to get perfect tempo live, very easily.
3. Panning, a la the PN-2. This would top off the 'perfect' tremolo pedal.
If BOSS would put these relatively simple features in their next tremolo pedal, I would pay a lot of money for it. I mean a lot. That's just my two cents.

But I use even to play alternative rock, psichedelia and noise (in this case with wave and depth to the maximum level)...very fun in this way !

Mexican strat through a stage 100 and buch of other effects , Now i cant say that this pedal is bad, its your basic tremolo effect , alot of people complain that the volume drops or it sucks your tone out, WELL DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! of course the volume drops its the nature of the effect. When all the knobs are at 0 you dont hear a volume drop and your tone is the same Acutally this effect adds a nice shimmery tremolo effect if you can get the right settings , very ambient, you can get some RADIOHEAD type sounds outta this like creep or planet telex and more . very quiet too , no noise. I hate boss pedals there too digital but i gave this one a chance and its staying on my pedal board . my only gripe is that its not true bypass and the tremolo settings cant get extreme machine gun stutter like a voodoo lab. but the voodoo lab was hard to get my hands on so i got this one

The only thing i can criticize about this pedal is that the volume seems to go down when the pedal is on. Maybe it's just because of the rapid volume changes with the effect that makes it seem this way, but i don't think a volume booster or something of that nature could have hurt this pedal at all, because it does seem like the volume goes down noticably with it is on.

They helped me with what i needed, but a lot of people have given them crap, which i can understand. They make reliable pedals and products, so logically, they wouldn't invest too much time and money in talking to the three people who've gotten defective pedals or broke theirs. It only makes sense.

It's a neat pedal to tool around with. The only thing that keeps it from a 10 is the volume decrease that i talked about above. Keep in mind that this pedal is a 9 for what it does, it's not really a spectacular pedal that will make your sound, well, for most of you anyway, i can't speak for everyone... but it is pretty good for what it does.

Its pretty easy to get a good sound, but i wish that the most extreme setting of the DEPTH knob was a little more... well, extreme. It seems to me that there is virtually no effect to be heard unless the knob is turned more than halfway over. on a different subject, the manual is short and precise, and gives good tips for different settings. no real difficulties operating this green monster.

The thing isnt noisy, although i dont think its true bypass. As mentioned earlier, the depth effect is kinda weak, but its not a critical flaw. i would just like to be able to use a more extreme effect once in a while. The rate knob is very well balanced; it seems to me that i can get whatever rate i want without problems. the wave control is also good, and you have a large span of triangular and squareshaped waveforms. on the negative side, the pedal also seems to turn down the general volume a bit, which can be annoying when changing back to normal mode.

Using Strat into a Fender blackface w/o internal trem. Signal a little weaker with TR-2 engaged, but no noticable ambient hissing or other noise. Never played the Dunlop trem, which has received rave reviews, nor the Fulltone (WAY out of my price range at the moment), but I can't complain about the sounds from this. Very musically-voiced and shimmery. Does the traditional trem and an electric piano duplication quite well IMHO.

I have been playing a variety of types of rock music for nearly seven years. Bought this on a lark a few years ago, but never used it much. A synth-playing friend of mine used it for some recording a while back and just raved about it. I started playing around with it more and became quite impressed with it. Not bad at all for the money. There is that slight signal loss, however, that might cause concern among some players.

It does the standard tremolo thing. The extremes of the rate control aren't too extreme, though. I like the fact that you can blend between triangle and square waveshapes, but I don't like the noise this pedal creates. I was doing some ambient loop layering on my Line 6 DL-4 and I noticed this awful white noise hiss. I disconnected everything and plugged each pedal straight into the amp, and sure enough, it was the TR-2 making the noise.

Right, gripe time. The actual tremolo effect in the pedal is great, you can get loads of different sounds from it with minimal, if any, noise interference. I thought this pedal was a stroke of genius until I played a Vox with built in tremelo. The main problem with the boss is a massive volume loss when you engage the effect, which is super annoying when recording or playing live. As I said, lovely effect, but a horrific volume loss when used.

I'd like to post a follow-up. I've had this pedal for two years now, and this gives me ample time to make a better judgement of it. This pedal is a very functional unit. In terms of operating it, it's rather simple- three knobs.

The problem with this pedal is the volume drop when it's on. You don't know how much this annoys me. When it's time for the effect, my parts seem to completely drop out of the mix. I'm dying to sell this thing for that one reason. Someone has posted that the volume problem will go away if you don't max the depth setting, and this is very true. However, sometimes I want dramatic tremolo effects, and this pedal lets me down everytime. Ignoring the volume consideration, the actual effect is not that bad. It's nothing very special, but it won't take away from your music. I will maintain this pedel does not approach anything close to a tube-driven effect, but for the money I don't know how many people are expecting it to. The effect is decent enough to merit it- albeit begrudgingly- to be a member of my pedalboard. Another plus is it's flexibility, the settings can be quite varied. This pedal is best used as a tremolo "effect", rather than a substitute for amp-driven tremolo.

When I first bought this unit the tremolo pedal market was not as large as it is now. I'd recommend people to shop around before they settle with this effect. It's rather bland and nothing special. There are enough similar units by different companies to try out now, even at different prices points, to merit people to look outside the typical boss pedal paradigm. Conclusion: Boring, Effective, Dependable, Adequate, Annoying.

Got it in a trade for a boss octave pedal. Well worth it.
My only gripe is that with the knobs turned up near max the sound is not to my liking, however keep them at around 0 to 3/4 and the sound is fantastic.

I play mbv, flaming lips, sonic youthy stuff. If you want interesting kinda wreird chords in the background try this, set the rate to 11 o clock, the depth to 1 o clock, the wave between 12 and 4 play a distorted slightly flangered guitar through it, just trust me.
I read the review of it on this site and when i went to sell my octave pedal instead of trading for cash i went for this instead.
used sparing this effect is fantasitic i use it for rhythmn playing not lead but i guess for lead it would be good to.

This is a really good sounding tremolo. It makes zero noise, and its very easy to use. I use it with a strat into a dunlop wah, ts-9, bigmuff, Boss DM-2, Boss CH-1, and many other effects like flangers more OD and Dists and delays... blah blah blah. I play a Fender 50s Strat, and I really like this pedal. However I don't use tremolo too much so i have decided to keep it and when I get my twin reverb just put the footswitch of the amp on my board in its place. I can get wicked Blind Melon tones with it. However Tremolos should be cheaper IMHO. BUT... that would not discourage me from buying it again, but then again i'm not planning on selling it.

If you like tremolo and your amp does not have it and/or its not footswitchable, you should check this one out. Not only is it easy to use (tremolos really can't be that hard to use IMHO) but it is very good sounding. It helps me write music, but I just don't seem to use it alot. But I like so much that I won't part with it. So give it a try and maybe you'll like it.

I'm using an Epiphone Les Paul or a Charvel Model 3 into a rig that includes a Boss line selector, Danelectro Cool Cat, ProCo Vintage RAT, MXR Dist +, Danelectro Fab Tone, Boss Flanger, and Boss Volume pedal into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Like others in this forum, I've noticed a volume drop with this effect, but it's important to note this only happens when the depth is above 12 o'clock or so because it'll never shut completely off or on. Like all other Boss pedals, this pedal will color you sound, so chain accordingly. When it's on, it'll warm up your playing a little bit, but not all that much. Long story short, this is why I got this effect: I've been looking for over a year now for a pedal that can do a MIDI sequencer impression (think the intro to "How Soon is Now"). I dicked around with noise gates for a while, but in most cases they're not sophisticated enough to shutter the signal in the right pattern. Finally, I found this pedal laying around in a pawn shop and lo and behold it does the trick!
I know there are other pedals out there that can do similar sounds, but it was the knob to control wave-form that sold me on this pedal. If you can find just the right setting (and set it before the distortion in you chain), you can get a nearly constant signal out of the distortion with a background chatter from the trem--it sounds like multiple guitars! (think the intro to "Guerilla Radio") The thing I'm loving the most right now is having this, my flanger, and my distortion on all at once. Let me tell you, THAT's an interesting sound! And, yes, it can do the shimmery trem effect, too, though I don't use that one very often.

Well, I bought it used and the sticker inside the housing says it's a couple years old. Based upon Boss's reputation, I'm guessing I'll be using this for quite a few years to come. The reputation of the Japanese Boss pedals preceed themselves. Anybody out there know how the Japanese version of this pedal compares with the Taiwanese one?

All discussion of the quality of the pedal aside, the true value of any musical commodity is: does it make you want to make music? The answer for this pedal for me is a definitive yes. My rig has a habit of mutating by the day, but I can tell you this pedal will be in most future versions. Buy pedals because you love them, not because they have that elusive "sound" or someone else uses them. What you get out of a pedal is what you put in. As for more concrete review type stuff: I've only compared this to the Dano mini pedal and they sound pretty similar, but the wave-form knob smokes the Dano's simple hard/soft switch. I currently have this pedal set such that all the knobs are pointing one o'clock and I use this both for the "double-guitar" effect I mentioned above and for shimmery cleans. If it were stolen, I'd buy another without thinking twice. It's a nice pedal that you can get very original sounds out of. The only thing I wish it had is true-bypass, but that's a rarity among pedals anyway. Bottom line:
this pedal sounds like me and that's just how I like it.

I use Fender Pro Reverb > Les Paul Custom > BOSS DS-1 > BOSS TR-2.
The sound is very clean whether used with or without the distortion.
There are not too many variations of sound with the unit but it does the job.
I first got interested in buying a Tremolo unit from hearing Creep and Planet Telex by Radiohead....both of these can be reproduced easy...the verse to Creep especially sounds excellent.
As always I would recommend trying this b4 buying.
It was a little expensive (#72) but it's good value as these Boss units last a lifetime.

It is actually quite versatile. at fast setting with a shallow depth u can get quite nice murky sounds and if u use a bit of chorus and eq it right u can get it sounding like it's underwater. the triangle wave form is pretty good, can go from really nice fender-amp type tremelo (great for "the burning red" by machinehead) to quite full-on (in a nice way). however, the square wave from is a bit of a let down. i was hoping for the razor sharp vision of disorder type shimmer, but just couldn't get it. the square wave is definetly not square, and at fast speeds is horribly obvious. it tends to take the attack of the sound especially when using distortion so u get a very muddy sound. a bit dissappointing.

A marshall JCM 800(2x for stereo), A fender Showman(twin reverb top), a Marshall JMP-1 with a Marshall 9200 power amp and a Mesa/Boogie triaxis with a Mesa/Boogie 20/20 power amp. I've got two Marshall 1936 cabinets, two marshall 1960b (4x12")and a Marshall 4x10" cabinet. I've got a switch unit to switch between my amps and cabinets. In my 19" rack I've got a Rocktron Patchmate and A rocktron Hush II, Alesis 31 band equalizer a Furman PL-8E, Samson VHF-1 transmitter, Line 6 POD and a switchunit for switching amps with the cabinets. On the floor I've got a Boss CH-1, MT-2, CS-3, PSM-5, NS-2, BD-2, Zoom 1010, Boss ME-X, Jim Dunlop JH-1 (Wah-Wah), Boss volume pedal, Boston volume pedal, Marshall P802 channel switcher, MXR Phase 90, and The BOSS TR-2. I use a US Strat through a Fulltone Fulldrive and Supa-trem and then into a Fender Deville 2x12. I used to be really big on Boss pedals but not anymore. I started to notice that Boss pedals (along with most other cheaply made pedals) really jack up your tone. Don't be deceived! Just because you paid $100 doesn't mean that it wasn't made for $12 by someone in China. These pedals really color your sound. And the more that you run through, the worse your tone gets. It also produces this great "ticking" noise, even when it's not on! That made me real happy! After we'ed finish a song you would hear this "tick..tick..tick..tick.." This pedal doesn't really do all that much, but what can you ask for for a hundred bucks?

I experienced some difficulty with it. After about six months my adaptor stopped working with it, then it started again and then it stopped for good(?) I couldn't find any reason as to why. Then one day I was fooling around with it and I realized that the adaptor would only work when I put certain pedals after it! If I was only using the trem it wouldn't work! But if I ran my delay after it would! What's up with that? I was forced to use batteries and I hate that (toooooooo expensive!). But for the most part it was semi dependable.

My setup : ESP M2 guitar into compression, distortion, Chorus, flange, E.Q, delay/reverb, and a handmade "sampler pedal" that I had made for me to sample passges then play over it if u get what I mean. I put the TR-2 at the very end of this cuz it gives at tighter tremelo sound i.e there is isn't any noise from the other pedals to interfere. The Tr-2 ALWAYS gives excellent sound quality. This is probably the favourite pedal I have. You can pretty much get evrything u want out of it from surf (not that I play surf) to new-wave-eighties type stuff to metal. Because this effect only changes the volume of the guitar it creates a new character for pieces but doesn't overbear the original idea, if u get my meaning.

If it were lost I'd buy it again in a blink. This pedal definetly helps me make music. I am a complete tremelo freak - i totally love it. This is my third tremelo after the Jim Dunlop model and I had a Voodoo Labs one which died pretty soon after I got it (although it was third hand). My only complaint is the price which is a tad over budget for a lot of guitarists. If u are a tremelo fan like me you'll love it. If not, you'll still love it.

The TR-2 is incredibly versatile...I use it for rockabilly, garage, and surf, generaly, but it can fit with every style I play. You can get it to sound like a light chorus or a vibrato, as well. It sounds great with the reverb cranked and a touch of drive. If you're goin' for a swampy, dirty sound, reminiscent of the Cramps and the like, this is a great pedal.

Well, I have to say I think I got what I paid for! I disagree with the guy who said that this tremolo doesn't have a shimmering quality, just clean up your sound, stick this pedal in front, and turn the waveform knob to the left (triangle LFO)....very sweet. However, the triangle wave patter, no matter how much depth you add, will not work well at all with distortion. For higher gain work with the tremolo, I turn the waveform know to the right (square LFO) and max out the depth. It sounds really nice, but the square wave sounds like shit when you put it on the clean channel...I would agree, it doesn't sound shimmery there. So, this thing is versitile, but you would have to have two of them to get the most out of the effect live, unless you were using the tremolo for only clean sounds on one song or only distorted parts on one song. Otherwise, I think this pedal has a really nice sound! Get an adapter, it's a battery sucker.

I really like this pedal. It helps me to make music, if that makes any sense. It sounds really great for melancholy clean passages, or out-of-control weird rhythmic riffs. It's a great pedal, but I think it would be cool to experiment with using two at the same time. The only thing I've got a complaint about is the absence of dynamics. You can't have a subtle depth with this thing and still be heard-you have to turn the depth knob all the way up, or else the effect will be drowned out by your playing. Otherwise, a cool pedal.

First of all, the QUALITY of the sounds it has is excellent, but the VARIETY of sounds it makes is limited. Don't get me wrong, the sounds it makes are good, but I was expecting more from it (especially since it retailed at a $160 bucks at one time!). It does have a great "Riders on the Storm" quality to it though and I like having it just for that sound.
The "square wave" side of the sound isn't quite as square as I had hoped it would be. A friend of mine has the Jim Dunlop Tremolo and it has a great square wave sound. Also, the Boss doesn't "glisten" as much as it should; When I hear a really great tremolo I can picture the sun glistening off the water rippling on the ocean - this pedal doesn't exactly take me all the way there. The Dunlop, on the other hand, did have some nice surfer qualities to it. I will be giving it more scrutiny the next time I get a chance to use it.
I'm not trying to knock the Boss TR-2, it has a very good tremolo sound, just a little drier. I guess you could call it a more straight forward tremolo sound. I use it for a very subtle effect since I found that it starts to get irritating as I increase the depth. It does have a vintage quality to it, but I agree with one of the previous reviews: It ain't no Fender!

My main incentive for getting the TR-2 was that I bought it from a co-worker for real cheap. My main incentive for keeping it is that it's about the most compact tremolo around (I don't have alot of space left on my effects board). It does have that one good sound I like, so I can find ways to use it.
I enjoy its basic tremolo sound, but I thought it was going to be a little more diverse. If the square wave had a harder edge I'd be content with it. If it "glistened" more I would love it. If lost, I'd probably look around for something else, but I'll probably keep it just to have that one good sound in my collection. It might be perfect for someone else though, just try it out first just to make sure.

Easy enough if you read the manual and consider the sample settings (most of which are nice). One should always read the manual, unless it's a Volume pedal or something. I've seen people discard great products like Trademark60 amp because they couldn't get a nice sound out of 'em, because they didn't bother to R.F.M. ("read the freakin' manual") Some of the knobs' effects are not right away obvious, if you haven't used a tremolo before, so try different settings.

No noise detected. The sounds are "warm", some of them vintage-like, although I don't understand how it can be warm, when it just varies your volume? :-) This could become a part of my sound. I try not to overuse it though. This is not just sound coloration like chorus or reverb, but an effect with an element of rhythm like delay. You can have from obvious "in your face" vintage like sounds to subtle vibrato (the sample setting is called Electric Piano and it's a nice one)

Alright, this where I must chime in on this pedal. If you have never heard a tube-based tremolo circuit if you might want to compare this pedal to those old Fenders. However, in all honesty, this pedal sounds nothing at all like an old Fender blackface or silverface. Considering then what is the purpose of this pedal, the rating of it will depend on your expectations and benchmarks for this pedal. Comparing it to other stompboxes, the boss is rather good. One can get a good range of sounds that sound rather nice. I've played the Jim Dunlop and like the boss much better. It's more natural sounding. But if you looking for Fender amp tremolo quality, one will not find it here. This pedal can not touch my princeton reverb's tremolo circuit. Yet it might not even be fair to expect this much out of a stompbox. I just mention this because many people posting are comparing it to blackface fenders. Comparing it against other boxes, the boss would probably get a 7, against an absolute benchmark, probably a 5. Another large niggle I had with this box is the lack of gain with the effect on. When using the effect one will notice a small volume drop. I found this very annoying. For what it is, it's not bad.

Hmmm, might it be time to rabble on how this is Boss pedal and if I threw it at a Mack truck I would ruin the truck 'cuz it's a Boss. Yes, it's very well made, thank you. Most of you on this site know enough about Boss pedals.

Would I buy it again? Probably not, I'm actually trying to sell it now. If you find one used for around 75 dollars, you might want to consider it. At the 100 dollar going price, this pedal doesn't really do it for me. Unfortunately, I have a certain sound in my head(built-in amp tremolo) and this pedal really didn't do it. If you have an amp you really like and want to add the occasional tremolo effect, you definitely should consider this pedal. I find the old Fender tremolo to be an absolutely beautiful sound and I just couldn't compromise on that sound. If you're considering this pedal, just keep in mind what you're expecting. Right now there are a number of tremolo pedals on the market, so look around. This pedal did not blow me away. Voodoo Lab makes a pedal in this price range that one really ought to consider before buying this one.

I play a 1962 Fender Jazzmaster which is right in with lots of tremolo and reverb. I have a Fender Deluxe 112 amp. It sounds great with that guitar/amp combo. I usually go right to the amp after the TR-2 it's like I own a big old Twin Reverb. Awesome! Nice Duane Eddy type gentle vibrato, all the way up to psychadelic a la Tommy James' "Crimson and Clover". It is a little noisy when the amp is at lower volumes, I've never seen that before but it is not at all offensive.

I've had it only a few weeks, but I'm sure it will hold up like any Boss effect which in my experience is very good. To me, I'd rather spend the $100 for this effect as opposed to $1000 for a reissue Fender Twin Reverb. It really does sound like vintage Fender tremolo or "vibrato" as the Fender amps say.

I play 50's and 60's rock both instrumental and non. I've been playing for about 10 years and own all Fender stuff, the Jazzmaster and a '68 Strat. I am the former owner of a couple of vintage Fender tube amps with their "vibrato" feature. This works really well with all my equipment and after playing this I am sorry that I actually bought those Fender amps, I could have saved a lot of money and my back carrying them to gigs when all i had to do was bring this little green box and plug it in! I would definatley buy another TR-2, it neither helps or hinders my music it complements my music. My favorite feature is that it sounds like vintage Fender Vibrato. If you want that vintage sound of tremolo from late 50's and all through 60's rock and don't have a lot of money to drop on big Fender tube amps get one of these, plug in and ride the wave!!

My Setup: Rick 620 w/vintage SC's into Boss TU-2 tuner, BD-2, TR-2, OD-3, NS-2 into Peavey Studio Pro 112. Oh my! Shades of Duane Eddy! I plugged it into my chain, adjusted everything to 12:00, broke into "Rebel Rouser" and just grinned from ear to ear! Also excellent on the beginning of "Born on the Boyou" by CCR. No noise at all.

Gosh, I really love this pedal. I haven't had an amp with tremelo in years and it feels just great to hear it again. I've been playing for the last 35 years, but haven't done much in the last 15. This effect sounds at least as good if not better than the tremelo on my old Fender Blac-face amp (can't remember which model, my folks sold it on me when I was in the navy)! I am a recent convert to the use of pedals. I had always been an amp distortion/effects man. I am now completely sold on their practicality and flexibility. All of my pedals are Boss, and I've been so impressed that I'm sure I won't buy any other kind. I'm not going to buy any more for a while, as I have a new Mesa Blue Angel on order and want to wait and see how my pedals react to it. I really can't think of any others I'd buy right now anyway. For my style of music, (Country/country rock, vintage rock) I've got about everything I need. Would I buy it again? Were the Beatles a half-way decent band? I might not use it often, but it's such a refreshing sound compared to what you hear in alot of music nowadays, I know people will enjoy hearing it again. I know I did! I don't even mind the puke-green color!

The boss tremolo is like all boss pedals, easy to use. The manual gives you tips for settings and helps out pretty. Just by experimenting, different sounds can be dialed up with ease. With just three knobs, one for rate, one for wave and one for depth, the pedal is pretty basic, and not to complex.

The tremolo has a pretty good sound. My father has a fender deluxe reverb amp, and I prefer this boss tremolo to the amps tremolo. I think the boss tremolo is a little more versatile. The only thing is like phasers and flangers I feel that the tremolo can't be apllied as much as distortion, delay, and wah. I like to use the tremolo with other pedals, because I think by itself, it can get pretty dull. I love running it with distortion for example. I have a rickenbacker 330 running into a fender hot rod deluxe. I prefer the tremolo to my boss flanger, as I think the tremolo can be used more in a band setting. As tremolo's go I think the boss does well. I remember being in a guitar store once and some guy was trying out a really expensive tremolo unit. I think my boss pedal sounded better than unit he was playing ( sorry i don't remember the brand) I like using the tremolo pedal and it has a good sound to it. It is just hard sometimes finding a place to apply the tremolo.

I play melodic guitar rock, and this pedal is fun. It has a smooth sound and the pedal isn't noisy. I like to use it with one ore more effects on, as that is what works best for me. I think by itself the tremolo can get old. If you are looking for a pedal that duplicates the old fender tremolo, I think this pedal comes close. If it was lost, I might not get it again only because, I really don't need. The tremolo isn't as important in the effects range as my delay, distortion, and wah. I got the pedal at price at 72 dollars, I don't think is worth much more to me than that, only because it is limiting. All in all I think it is pretty good pedal and a great pedal for one looking for a tremolo at a reasonable price

My setup is not particularly straight forward.. The tr-2 is part of my quite substantial pedalboard along with a 2 Rats, Dod grunge pedal, Danelectro echo and chorus pedals going through an ls-2 line selector. I use an epiphone les paul standard with seth lover pickups or fender jaguar going into a trace elliot 100w amp or a Marshall 1959 head and 4x12. The sound is bloody good. When on bypass this thing is silent. It does exactly what you'd expect it to and I think that is probably one of the most important things in a pedal. ONLY ONE MAJOR BAD POINT... This thing seems to eat batteries so a power supply is probably a bonus.

Very reliable. I gig with it regularly, I must admit, I do have a whole spare pedalboard but that goes without saying, all my pedals are duplicated. Would I use it without backup ? Probably, if I had to. It is however not as well built as Rat pedals.......But what is ?

This is Boss's "classic tremelo" stomp box. Besides the eternally familiar "Speed" and "Depth" controls, it also has a waveform control that is very effective in altering the "attack" of the sound. Manual gives some very good suggestions for starters.

I use the unit the same way almost anyone does - in lieu of an amp "Tremelo", which disappeared from almost all amps - save the classic Fender designs - in the early '70's, probably in favor of the then-hot "Chorus" control. It's dead quiet in the "off" position, (though it should be noted that like many stomp boxes, once you plug a jack into the "in" port, it's "on" - even if you haven't activated it. Good to remember as far as your battery life goes). I run it through a Crate amp to get the '60's instrumental/surf sound, and there is no other description for it - it's perfect in that regard. It could fool Fender's own mother: Creamy, silky smooth, and exactly what you are hoping for before you hear it the first time (not many things you can say THAT about!). Boss tells you that the "on" light will dim when the battery is going, and they are right. Be aware that the battery goes in a nose dive - when that light starts to dim, get a new one in there pronto. This doesn't apply if you are using an adaptor, but who screws with those when an alkaline 9 Volt lasts for months?
Reliability
:
10
Reliability? Think Master padlocks. All Boss pedals I've seen fit this category. Always have a fresh, spare 9 volt around, though. If the battery dies completely while you are using the unit, it begins a steady "chirp - chirp - chirp" through your speakers until the battery is replaced, though!

My salad days on electric guitar were the '60's, when *everyone* had a Fender (or Vox) amp, and the sound of Leo Fender's tremelo circuits is burned into my brain. THIS IS THAT SOUND. Add to that the excellent workmanship, and high reliability. The sole things I do not like are the side-mounted jacks, (I prefer top mounts), and it's painted the most god-awful shade of snot green you ever saw, but those are minor quibbles at best. You want trem? THIS IS THE ONE, FRIEND!

It's very simple to use. It has controls for rate, depth and wave on the top with a large on/off pedal. I didn't get a manual: I had a choice of getting a new one off an unused demo board for $69 or one in the box with all the papers for $89. The box and papers weren't worth $20 to me.

I'm currently using a Tele and a Rick 360 through a Carvin 100W solid state. I was seriously considering buying a tube amp (Deluxe Reverb, Vibrolux, or maybe a Vox) with vibrato/tremolo just to get that sound again. I "grew up" with a Gretsch and a '64 Fender Tremolux when I started playing back in the mid 60's. We did some surf music along with the other garage band stuff, so I used the tremolo. I still like the sound. I read the other reviews here and thought I'd give it a try... it's well worth every penny. Great lush, shimering tremolo with good controls to vary the effect. It cured my desire to spend the big bucks on the Fender or Vox. It's quiet, warm and sweet sounding. With this pedal, my Dano Daddy-O, and my Korg processor I get all the sounds I want out of my little Carvin.

I'm using a Peavey Classic combo and have a really clean tone. Together with the pedal it sometimes sounds really really close to my dad's old Fender amps. Never ever use it with distortion, certainly not with a tube amp because what a tremolo does is mainly altering the volume and it will sound like sh$# with tube distortion. Hey no noise at all with this one.

I a/b' d this pedal in the music store with my BOSS PN-2 and a more expensive Dunlop TS-1 stereo tremolo pedal. The PN-2 sounded quite "mechanical" compared to the new TR-2 and the Dunlop pedal. The Dunlop pedal sounded great, but it made the signal level drop just a bit when turned on. The TR-2 sounded a little warmer than the Dunlop pedal, and was dead silent when turned off. (so was the Dunlop) if I were interested in the stereo feature, I would have bought the Dunlop, but the TR-2 had great character and was a tad warmer. The old PN-2 sounded too thin compared to either of the new pedals. The only noise was some very, very, faint pulsing "swish" when the pedal was on but no signal was present. I have found that ALL tremolo pedals tend to do this, however the TR-2's noise was not noticable when playing.

Since I did compare this thing to other similar products, I can say that I believe the product performed well- within it's limits. The wave shape knob that was also included on the Dunlop TS-1, is a great feature. Some other more expensive Trem. pedals don't have it, and for me, it is very important to creating a unique sound or emulating a wide variety of others. This thing also fits into a pedalboard nicely, the Dunlop is an unwieldly beast (size-wise)
