Before I put all my pedals in true bypass this pedal DID make noise when added to a single chain of 5-6 pedals, including a compressor/sustainer. I've since changed a lot of pedals to true bypass, like my Keeley stompboxes, and I use a true bybass for two sets of arrays. I plug into the TU-2, battery-powered, before my pedal board now and I notice no change in the sound. No tone suck with my setup.

This pedal is self-explanatory. I prefer to use the "cent" mode, as opposed to "stream", but both are satisfactory. The LEDs are bright which makes tuning on a dark stage a non-issue. It is also convenient because, when using the daisy chain adapter, it can supply power to several other pedals.

I use this pedal as the first in a chain of four. I haven't noticed if the pedal does diminish the quality of my tone, even though conventional wisdom suggests that every pedal alters tone to some degree. Perhaps the best feature of this unit is the mute: when the switch is depressed the signal is cut so as to spare any audience the sound of you tuning.

I do like this tuner but I wish it had a built-in mic for acoustic guitars. I don't like the stream display, it gets too confusing. I do like the ease of use. You can switch tuning modes with a push of a button. I just wish it were a bit cheaper. If mine broke, I'd be a little reluctant to pay $100 for a new one. Try to buy one used, if at all possible.

Tuning itself is very simple. If the rest of the band are doing things at the same time then it causes some vibration on other strings which confuses the hell out of it. I have to dampen the other 5 strings I'm not tuning to be accurate - and then sometimes have to tweak it by ear. However - it stops you from being wildly out and gets you very close to the general area you need to be in for tuning. The LED is bright, the DC out is a godsend.
I never put mine in bypass mode as I find it really useful to be able to kill the signal for all sorts of reasons which keep surprising me! The main time when killing the signal is useful is when I'm playing acoustic and not playing in a passage - I'm the lead singer as well so being able to kill the signal (so I don't get hum or feedback from the vibrating stings) and do a few hand movements rather than keeping one hand over the strings is very useful. Also useful if I break a string and have to swap to another guitar - killing the singal without having to leg it over to my amp is great.

Very simple to use. Follow the labels on each jack and plug it up. I run it off the tuner-out on my Ernie Ball VP Jr. volume pedal. That way it cannot affect my effects chain signal that feeds my amplifier. I use the TU-2 to power my Barber Tone Press Compressor, Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe, Boss DD-7 Digital Delay, and Ibanez AD-9 Analog Delay pedals. I have a Fulltone OCD overdrive and Fulltone Distortion Pro in the chain as well but those two are powered by 9 volt carbon batteries for the best tone. The TU-2 is an accurate tuner and a great power supply for my Pedal Train PT-2-HC board. The manual addresses all you need to know and more.
Sound Quality
:

Dead Quiet! Because I'm using the TU-2 independently of the guitar signal/effects chain, and I'm coming off of the tuner out on the volume pedal, the tuner cannot negatively affect my tone going to the amp. Most of my other pedals in the signal/effects chain have true bypass so my signal remains strong all the way to the amplifier. There is no added buzzing, humming, or noise in the chain when using the TU-2 as my pedal board power supply. I use Lava Pedal Board kit cables and connectors. My amps are all tube, hand wired, Fenders. I have a 1977 Silver Face Princeton amp, a 1977 Silver Face Vibro Champ amp, and a 1984 Black Face Deluxe Reverb II (Rivera Era)amp. My main guitars are 1997 American Standard Stratocaster with Lollar blond pickups and Acme pickgaurd and wiring assembly, 1989 Fender Japanese Stratocaster with the American Standard wiring and pickup assembly, and 2001 Ibanez AS-120 Semi Hollow body (ES 335 clone). My acoustic is the heavenly Martin HD-28, but it doesn't plug in and is strictly used in it's pure acoustic form. This combination of effects pedals, guitars, cables, and amplifiers are fantastic. I was concerned about using the TU-2 to power my effects chain but time has proven this product to be a fantastic and compact power supply. Just buy the Boss "daisy chain" wire and you instantly have a valid power supply for you pedal board. You might verify that the Boss TU-2 is safe for you non-Boss pedals. I did this myself. I am very pleased with my rig. I will soon add the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe Wah Wah and the Fulltone Mini Deja Vibe to the chain.

Never fails to perform. It takes weeks of gigging to wear down an alkaline 9 volt battery. Unlike other pedals, it takes very little battery power to run the pedal. You can fully use up a battery before the pedal finally stops working. Sometimes I will take batteries that are dying in my other pedals and move them to the TU-2 Tuner. I finish running them down in the tuner until they are completely spent. Built like a tank.

The switch on one of my other Boss effect pedals wore out after years of consistant week to week gigging. I got a phone number from either the manual or the Boss home page and called the company. I ordered a new switch from Boss and did the repair myself by making a couple of solder points. The switch arrived in a couple day. It was shipped inside an envelope and the part cost less than the postage. That Boss pedal is once again performing flawlessly. Boss has been good to me.

I use the pedal with my bass rig as well. Everyone I know has this pedal and they have nothing but good things to report. Boss makes some good things, but this may be their best effects pedal ever. It is easy to read in a dark or in a well lit environment. Just umnplug it when you are not playing. I've had mine for over ten years and it looks and performs like new in spite of continuous use on the stage week after week. I play Rock, Folk, Jazz, etc...

For live playing this is the greatest pedal in the universe. For all those of us that have played on dimly lit stages all our lives the LED display means you can tune without ruining your eyesight. I love the fact that when in tune mode it cuts the output signal meaning that i can tune to open G (for example) between songs in about 2 seconds without the audience having to listen to tune-up verse 4. For those who say it sucks tone....i have never noticed it. When recording i tune then play WITHOUT leaving it in the signal chain and live...if your ears can hear the difference with all the band around you you are a genius.

No tone loss as some have stated. I'm a "tone chaser" and I would know. I test every unit I get by sitting on the floor with my face stuck in front of a 4x12 cab. Perfectly silent when off and on. I use the mode where it shuts off my signal when tuning. Great for live shows to tune between songs. I run this second in my effects chain. From my guitar I go into a Boss SD-1 Overdrive, then the tuner, then a phase 90, and finally a Digidelay into several EVH 5150III heads. This concept sure beats tuning up with my compact tuner before each show.

Dead easy to use. Guitar in socket and either direct or mute out sockets. No appreciable signal degradation.
I tend to use the neck PU with the tone pot knocked back for tuning purposes. That way you avoid harmonics that cause the tuner difficulty in locking in on the fundamentals. Mode options are well thought out and easy to select. The only problem I have ever had with a TU-2 was in direct sunlight which made reading the display difficult. But there again I do daylight gigs so rarely it doesn't really matter.
The 9v output socket is very useful for those occasions when a non-pedalboard unit is used as well as the board itself. Nice thoughtful touch!
Both of my pedalboards have a TU-2 as their first stompbox.

Great tuner. Life is much easier with a TU-2 on board (literally). I chose it (a) because I felt I needed a stage tuner, and (b) it's a Boss and would survive Armageddon along with the cockroaches.
DGP contains TU-2 >> Monte Allums CS-3 mod >> modded Blubber wah >> Monte Allums BD-H2O >> Monte Allums SD-808 >> original 80s Rat2 >> Boss CH-1 >> Boss DD-3
Pedalboard 2 has TU-2 >> Guyatone ST-2 compressor >> Morley Powerwah >> Keeley SD-1 >> modded Proco You Dirty Rat >> Arion SPH-1 phaser.
My first TU-2 was bought secondhand; the second was a chosen prize despite already having one!

The only thing I find wrong with this tuner is the lag time from when you turn it on and when it actually starts registering your signal. Unfortunately, that is a deal breaker, since it's almost 5 seconds. I bought the TU2 to replace a Korg DT10 in order to save room on my board. They are equally as accurate and easy to use, however, the Korg registers immediately, and for quick, fine-tuning, I can be done with the low E and on to the A before the Boss is even ready to go. You might not think 5 seconds is a lot, but step on it and then stand there on stage hitting the string and waiting for it register. It's a long time! The Korg is back on my board and I use the Boss as a backup.

I love this tuner! It's easy to use and easy to understand. I spent five minutes with the manual and I was in the correct mode and ready to go.
All my bandmates have one and I tried it out prior to purchasing it. I've been playin' for 20 yrs and I am super picky about tone, don't hear any significant difference in the tone with the pedal in the chain. I recommend it being next in line to your guitar for more accuracy.
I am legally blind and needed a stage tuner that I could see. I can see the sharp, flat and in tune lights in all situations without having to bend down which was a BIG plus for me. I've had nothing but good experiences with this tuner. Haven't used it to power all my other pedals yet, but that's coming soon.

Very easy to use. Plug your guitar into the input socket and plug a cable from the output socket to your amp. However, that is if you want to tune your guitar silently. If you still want the signal to go through, plug the cable into the bypass socket then to the amp. If you didn't understand that, don't worry, it should come with a manual.

Fairly simple to use, but do read the owners manual. There are different modes that provide different visual displays. Such as, it will display the string number with 6 being the low E and 1 being the high E, or it will osccilate LED's when tuning, or you can get it to only light up one LED at a time. Learn how to use it to get the most from it. After much experimentation, I determined that it is easier to use down on the floor as the single LED mode. It is accurate to +or- 3 cents (as opposed to the Peterson Strobe Tuner Pedal which is accurate to +or- 1/10 of 1 cent) Huge difference, so 3 cents is enough to have you see everything be in tune on the tuner but when you play a chord, a player with a good ear will hear those +or- 3 cents and have to fine tune.
Sound Quality
:
10
What can you say about the "Sound" of a guitar tuner, when it is on, you can have it mute your signal so you can tune quietly or you can bypass it so you can hear it. But I was unable to hear any change in tone whatsoever with it off. I use mine on a pedal board, early in the effects chain. Remember to always use your bridge pickup and turn your tone all the way down when you use an electronic tuner. Tuners are able to lock on to the much more stable signal when it hears low. Highs can confuse them and make them appear erratic.

I like the white color, it stands out on a dark stage. I do not like the accuracy of only +or- 3 cents. I wish it could be more accurate, but it is 1/3 the price of the Peterson pedal. So you get what you pay for in tuner pedals. There are lots of BOSS collectors out there so they hold their value pretty good if you ever decide to sell them. For me it works fine.

There is minimal "tone suck" with this pedal. I have a couple of non-true bypass pedals and when I use the tuner with them I dont notice it.
But when I run my guitar -> tu-2 -> mesa stilleto, i do notice a difference between thru the tu-2 and straight into the amp. The stilleto is a very bright amp and I found the tu-2 to dull the highs just a bit. I find it dissapointing that they can't even make a tuner true bypass.
But as I said, with my other non-true bypass pedals the difference isn't noticeable. If I had an all true-bypass set up, i would ditch the tu-2 or run it in a loop or something.

It should be the easiest thing on the planet but I found it frustrating because I often had to "touch-up" my tuning by ear after tuning with the pedal. Sometimes it was OK, other times not. It is very easy to activate and I found that occasionally hit the switch when activating the boost on my Fulldrive and ended up with no solo rather than boosted solo. I found it to be marginal.

I really wanted to like this pedal because it is small, rugged and has a really useful DC out jack. I depended on it for a year or two but it became increasingly unreliable as time passed. It would sometimes refuse to tune my low E or A string, some times indicate that I was way sharp or flat when I was actually in tune - not indicating a little out, but miles out. Eventually, it began to intermittently ignore my input signal although the switching still worked. It found its way into my trash can today because it no longer responds to any input signal.

Lots of people swear by them and if they came out with an upgraded model that was more accurate I would buy another. I am currently using my backup Peterson Strobostomp version 1 which is accurate but not so reliable due to the cheap plastic jacks and the inexcusably flimsy "shatter-on-contact" plastic covering over the display. I think I will likely try the Korg floor tuner and live without the DC output jack.

This tuner is amazing. the only problem I have is sometimes when I turn it on while i have my dm-4 on it tents to buzz, but no big deal, just shut the dm-4 off.
it doesn't matter what i use it with, it sits either right before the volume, or right after the wah pedal (ernie ball volume into dunlop wah).

I like that this tuner is in pedal-form and can be powered from an adapter. That way I can keep it hooked up all the time. BUT, I'm not sure how precise it is. The regular tuning mode where the LED's act like a meter seemed unreliable, like the middle LED covered too wide of a range. So I switched to the tuner to stream mode where the LED's circle around, faster when you are far out of tune and slow to a stop when you are in tune. However, that doesn't seem very precise either. Sometimes, even when this pedal says a guitar is in tune, it doesn't sound quite right and another tuner confirms it. I like the features of this tuner but I'm not sure it does a good job of the one thing it should do best.

It's pretty easy to use but then again I don't use many of its features. I just turn it on and tune. The only thing I have done otherwise is change it from "cent" to "stream." Since there are so few LED's, you almost have to use stream mode to tune accurately - there's just not enough precision otherwise.

I haven't noticed any noise when it's off. And I don't use the bypass jack so it should be silenced when it's on.
My setup is PRS Custom 22 and customized Epiphone Les Paul -> Boss TU-2 tuner -> customized DOD 250 overdrive/preamp -> Boss BF-3 flanger -> customized Vox V847 wah -> Epiphone Blues Custom 30-watt all-tube amp.

When I rate this pedal, I am comparing it to the Seiko SAT100 tuner that the Boss TU-2 replaced. I really wanted a TU-2 because, unlike the Seiko, it is in pedal-form and it can be powered with an AC adapter. I also like that the TU-2 simply shows you the nearest note including sharps and whether you are sharp or flat. The Seiko only shows you natural notes (not sharps/flats) without fooling around with the settings.
So, with all of those features, it seems like the TU-2 would be a 10, hands down. But even with all those bells and whistles, I'm not sure it's very precise. Maybe the range that it considers "in tune" is too wide. Maybe that's because the "needle" on the Seiko's display has about 50 segments as opposed to 11 big LED's on the Boss. The Seiko also tells you exactly how many hundredths a note is from being in tune.
A guitar that the Boss pedals says is perfectly in tune usually isn't quite in tune. Retuning with the Seiko will show that the Boss-tuned guitar is off a bit. I'm aware that a guitar's overall tuning can change a bit depending on things as simple as the angle that it is sitting at but notes are sometimes out of tune relative to one another, which is a bad sign. Simply put, the TU-2 is very neat and gadgety but doesn't quite do the one thing it should do best.

Very easy to use, plug in-->turn it on-->select tuning method (strobe or cent...I tend to find cent a little bit easier)--> select chromatic or one of the multiple guitar or bass tunings-->tune.

I play in the pit band for a lot of local broadway shows as well as occasionally in a pickup band. I love this little unit. Not only can I do a quick check on the tuning, but it serves as an excellent muting switch between songs during a show. I'm flipping it off and on dozens of times during a performance, and has never blinked. I like the tuner section very much - it seems more stable than most, very accurate, and easy to see while standing, etc. - all the info you need and nothing more.

If you don't think the cent method of tuning is accurate enough then try the strobe method. If you still can't get your guitar in tune buy a better guitar. This is a great pedal.

I have a solution for those of you who think the TU-2 sucks your tone and can live without using the pedal as a mute-switch... the input buffer on the pedal has a very high impedance (about 1 meg-ohm in fact!) so all you need to do is eliminate going through the internal circuitry that alters the tone. By definition, BOSS uses the input buffer to present a high-impedance load to the guitar - but then they convert the signal to a low-impedance with a buffer follower that MAY present problems with some pedals that expect to see a high impedance signal source (typical of older "vintage" pedals like fuzzface).
If you can live without the mute function, clip the yellow wire that goes to the BYPASS jack at the board and wire it directly to the lug on the input jack (I think it has a green or brown wire). Be careful to leave a little stub of yellow wire on the board at the original location should you ever choose to reverse this mod.
Now, just plug into the tuner as normal and use the BYPASS jack to send the signals to the rest of your chain. The pedal operates just as before... but now presents no load to your signal and no active circuitry is involved to muck up your tone. Any following pedals will still see a high-impedance signal source just as if you plugged your guitar straight in. If you still want to use the pedal as a MUTE pedal for tuning.. then you have to use the standard output jack and go through the active buffer circuits in the pedal.
I just use the pedal to turn the tuner on when I need it and run my signal through the BYPASS jack (now in parallel with the INPUT jack).

I didn't notice the "tone sucking" as much as others, so that's not an issue, although, it may take a little high end off.
I have NEVER posted a negative review, but, this is necessary!
The one I have does not tune properly!
It tunes E,A,D well, but G, B, and high E are sharp!
I have an extremely beat up 22 year old Arion Stage Tuner that is 10X better than this Boss!
The only other tuner I would buy is that Digital Strobe tuner, I forget who makes it, but a friend of mine paid $179 for one and loves it!!

Well I guess this is the key category here. I've found that it is sometimes a bit slow at finding notes but that;s only when playing open strings. I can't emphasise this enough: USE HARMONICS WHEN TUNING. It gives the purest sound to the tuner, ensuring it won't get confused with overtones or fret buzz. Now I think it works great.

Easy to use - just plug and play. Read the manual to figure out what the various modes do. It remembers the last mode it was set for, which is nice. I use it mostly in chromatic mode, switching between various open tunings and standard tuning, or standard tuning down one whole step (D-D).
I have not used it as much as expected on stage. I don't like it that much. It is hard to see the "sharp" indication, and therefore too easy to tune to A# instead of A, for example.
Sound Quality
:

Bought it on the advice of touring pro's. It has the reputation of locking onto the pitch quickly and accurately, and also is silent for bypass switching while tuning. I have not noticed that it changed my on-stage tone much (Taylor 414CE guitar with Fishman on-board piezo).
Reliability

Seems to be reliable. One big issue is that the battery runs down if the cord stays plugged in, even if the unit appears to be off. A backup tuner in your pocket (like the Intellitouch) is a very good idea.

The TU-2 does appear to tune quickly and accurately, and the bypass mode is indeed silent. There are two big drawbacks, though.
One, if you no longer have 18 year old eyes (or wear glasses) it is really hard to see whether you are sharp when in chromatic mode. The only indication is a small dot after the letter, like a decimal point. Other stomp box tuners have a large # symbol that is clearly visible from several feet away. The first time I used it on stage to get into an open tuning, two of the four strings ended up tuned one half-step high, because I could not see the tiny "sharp" indication.
Two, the battery runs down if you happen to leave the cord plugged in -- even though the unit appears to be off. Changing batteries is not terribly convenient either -- definitely not something you want to try between songs.
If BOSS fixed these two big problems it would be a pretty good stage tuner, and I would be satisfied with it. The TU-2 appears to be well made, but these basic design flaws really degrade the utility.
As it stands, I have not used this tuner nearly as much as expected on stage. I don't like it that much, and I'm pretty disappointed. I would NOT buy another one, and frankly want to get rid of this one to someone who can live with its drawbacks. I've already replaced it with another stompbox tuner (Fender) with larger letters and much clearer "sharp" indications.

Very good intuitive interface, modes easy to find and select. I did find these a little hard to understand however. Set in 'chromatic' mode the display indicates the key you are tuned to (or nearest to). This works well on 6 string and bass. With other modes selected (eg drop tuning)the string number is displayed on the LED. The pedal seemed to think I had a 5 string bass....not so unfortunately.

This is the first review I have left on this site and it was the effect of this tuner on my sound which has prompted me to post something. I had read all the other reviews and since there was a balance of opinion regarding the effect on sound quality of this 'non true by-pass' type tuner, I thought I would try it. I'm regretting it now. This thing sucks....tone that is. It sucked the brightness out of my gear leaving it all sounding decidedly thin and muffled. I couldn't believe that other reviewers had had no issues with this!

Very simple after your read the manual. I tried this pedal before in my rythm guitarists rig, and wasn't too impressed. Fast forward a few months, I saw it at the local guitar store for about 1/2 price (used). I tried it out. I grabbed a strat with a floating bridge. It worked allright, it didn't seem too accurate or precise. It appeared to be no better than any handheld cheapo-Korg tuner of the $20 variety. I wasn't going to buy it. Then, an older fellow came over and showed me the "streaming" mode. I bought it after that. Very accurate.

Works great with guitar (floating/fixed) and bass. It's chromatic, so it should work on any stringed instrument with an output. I suggest using the TU-2 only in "streaming" mode. I would give it a 10/10 but the price is steep for a tuner. On the other hand, playing in tune is worth every cent.

Does my gear sound any different with or without the tuner? Good question. I can't really tell, honestly. If I were recording, I sure wouldn't use it, that's for sure. Live? Who cares? If anyone in my audience notices the difference (and I guarantee you, they don't), then bully for them. I'm sure as hell not about to give up the convenience on the off chance somebody's going to care about a (hypothetical) incremental effect on my tone.

To tell you the truth, I rarely use the thing to actually tune my guitar. I've got a 2001 Fender P-Bass, and it rarely (if ever) goes out of tune. What I was really looking for was a cutoff switch, or a volume pedal, so I could silence my bass during shows. For years I always tuned by ear live and at rehearsals, and only used a tuner at times that called for perfect tuning, ie. recording.
Practically every gigging musician I know owns a Boss TU-2 stage tuner. For how common they are, you'd almost figure they're required by law. I'm not especially passionate about the thing - it does what it says on the box, but frankly, I'd be happier spending the $125 on something else. On balance though... Good product.

Guitar --> TU-2 --> Tube combo amp
It's the only thing between my guitar and my amp so if it degrades the tone, I don't notice. I give it a 9 instead of a 10 to account for this possibility. That's not the reason why I'm writing this review anyway.
The main thing I like about this tune is that it's very stable, and it gets my guitar in tune much more easily because of that.

To everybody who doesn't hear the difference, you listen but you don't hear. Very easy for using cause I had another Korg digital tuner with LED's. Reading the manual revealed some other things i didn't know before, but it was all clear after that.
Very easy to use alternate tunings, which I do often. If people say it is not accurate, they should try a different tuning method. I always used to just pluck the string and read, but let me tell you...the note you hear then is composed of MANY different overtones and ONE fundamental note. We humans only hear the fundamental, or that one note we pluck. But an electronic tuner "hears" the fundamental and every overtone of that fundamental. So your tuner has some difficulties picking the right note, and therefore the dial will go crazy around the note. Instead play the harmonic on the 12th fret of the string and you'll provide your tuner with the purest tone you can deliver. No dancing anymore.

I use a Les Paul into a Bad Cat amp. Effects include a Marshall Shredmaster, Zvex Fuzz, ART reverb mainly (have others but you don't bother I guess).
For me it is not noisy and it doesn't affect tone. I use it as first pedal in a series connection, and I use a battery. The plan is to use it with AC power into a loop, but as said in the configuration now it doesn't alter the tone.
Let me tell you I hate Boss for this reason, their pedals always change your tone some kind, but this one I'll keep

The PROBLEM is, it just isn't precise enough. It may say you are in perfect tune, but you may be a little out. Like it may say you are in tune, but then you can go sharp or flat a bit and it stills says you are in perfect tune. This is probably good enough for using live...but I always use my cheapo Korg GA-30 tuner for recording.

This tuner NEVER tunes your guitar perfectly... It comes very close but is always off slightly. I have spent years using this tuner thinking that it was the best I could buy and have always had tuning problems with my guitars. I thought my guitars had poor tuning pegs or my strings were just stretching or that my intonation was off. Not the case, the problem was the boss tuner. Somebody finally told me about the Peterson Strobostomp and my tuning problems instantly went away. The strobostomp is extremely accurate and doesn't get confused like the tu-2
Also, the tu-2 isn't true bypass so it colors your guitar sound when in the signal chain. It's also buffered, so that can make your fuzz boxes or OD pedals sound mushy. Don't ever use this thing in your signal chain! The peterson strobostomp is true bypass and won't cause you these problems

Overall, this pedal is a total waste of money. IT doesn't tune your guitar so what's the point in owning it? Some people think they can dance but they have no rhythm... other people think their guitar is in tune but they can't hear correct pitch. If you're using this box I GUARANTEE you are out of tune. Simply tune your guitar with the TU-2 and then play a power chord... you will instantly notice that there is a "wolfing" sound. The boss is just out of tune enough to make your chords slightly off. Tune your guitar with the TU-2 and then try manually tuning using harmonics... you will hear that your harmonics are off even though the boss says your in tune.
I also own the 500 dollar rackmount peterson strobe tuner. It is probably the best gear purchase I've ever made. My guitars are perfectly intonated and sound beautiful! The strobostomp comes very close to the accuracy of the rackmount so I will recommend the strobostomp for players on a budget.
DO NOT buy this box. Save your money for a Peterson. I spent years out of tune because of this pedal. Don't repeat my mistake

Sound quality.....hmmmm....in a tuner..... I would say based on the fact that it's not true bypass (it does suck a bit of tone but not too much), and that the accuracy rating has been questioned, I give it a 9. The accuracy rating is being very picky. It's more than accurate enough for live use and recording for that matter. People should get their guitars set up by an experienced tech and also remember to tune to the attack of the note and not the decay. You almost have to be hearing like dogs and cats to nitpick the +/- .3 accuracy rating. I mean that's damn good. P.S. I run my pedal from a true bypass switch box so the pedal isn't in my tonal chain. This way the non true bypass isn't an issue.

Easy and good. You gotta choose an out jack, and read the manual if you don't know the notes (A, B#, etc.) you're going for, because I think it starts on that mode and it seems to me it would rarely be necessary to switch. But it does have different modes and can stream, but I use it by going for the center green dot.

I haven't seen many people review it this way but I have to give this pedal a 6 for sound quality. Not because it sucks tone when it's off (if it was only for that I'd give it a 9), but because the accuracy is only +/- 3 cent. The only reason that doesn't bother me badly is because I saw on guitargeek that Dave Grohl uses one, but I'm on the move to relegate this pedal into a backup position because of the lack of accuracy. I'm looking at the Peterson StroboStomp. If you haven't heard of it, the stats are really great (the price is just okay, at nearly $200), and you should check it out. I've never used one.

I play rock, and have been playing for 9+/- years. If it were lost I wouldn't replace it and if it were stolen I'd try to get the value from the robber and put it towards a StroboStomp. I like it cause it's got a power out I can daisy chain with, and it's a tuner as a pedal. Otherwise, the accuracy just ruins it for me.

Customer support was friendly and answered all my questions. I told them I couldn't find my warranty info, and they said they could fix the pedal for $40 an hour plus parts and shipping. So it would be at least $50 to have $80 pedal repaired. I totally understand charging for repairs that are not under warranty, but $40 an hour is just outrageous. The pedal is obviously defective and should be repaired or replaced free of charge.

Obviously there's no sound as such - so I'll just talk about one or two other things. I use as the first pedal in my chain. If you buy a link-up power cable you can run all your other pedals of this. This definitely influenced my decision to buy it.
No problem with the pedal at all - I've gigged it, and it's extremely nice to use. If you have a couple of bars to spare in a song, you can hit the pedal, cut out completely and tune up, before reemerging in perfect pitch. You should be able to be in perfect pitch in 10-20 seconds with this piece.

Very easy to use. Just decide whether you want it to stream or show cents. Occasionally, it has trouble locating a particular note, but nothing serious. You can also set it to tune to flat for you nu-rock/metal guys out there.
Sound Quality
:
8
If you leave an overdrive or distortion unit "on" when you are not playing with the tuner set to "stream", then sometimes it will make a noise like a motor running. I can tell a difference when it's directly in my chain since it's buffered. It's not bad, however; if you are as picky about your tone as I am mine, either use a good a/b or a/b/c box to split it out of your chain, or use a dedicated send from a good volume pedal. A more in-depth tuner would be the peterson but really, who has time on-stage to check intonation. I give this an 8 for sound quality because I feel it alters the tone.

This is an amazing tuner for on stage use. The LED's are super bright and great for dark stages. Throw this in the front of your effects chain and your ready to go! The features on this are also nice. It offers seven modes (Guitar, Guitar Eb, Guitar Double b, Bass, Bass b, Bass double b, and chromatic) but I find unless you play only in one of those tunings that it is best to leave it on chromatic. The other feature I like is the Output/Bypass option. If you use the regular output to the amp it will silence your signal while you tune, which is awesome for if an incident on stage happens you wont have to ruin the song by having everyone hear your tuning. Or if your into that, use the bypass output and the tuner will tune while preserving your signal! Killer pedal, definately worth the $$$!!

I dont know what people are talking about here with the buffer and tru by pass stuff. I have owned this pedal for 3 years, and used it for live settings aswell as recording, i have never noticed a change in my tone what so ever. When you press the pedal, your sound stops and you tune, anything deeper into what this does to your signal is looking way to deep into it. The only reason i can't give it a 10 is because it once and a while does take a second or two, to find out what note is being played, but this is mostly when you have old strings or if you are tuning your guitar to a low tuning, like "C"

Yes, it is not true bypass....But here's the kicker....
It is a buffered pedal, so when placed FIRST in your chain (where it should be anyway) it then maintains the signal transfer amplitude from Guitar down that LONG A$$ed instrument cable to your first Effect........
Try seeing how a Muff or some OD sounds ALONE when you don't have a buffered pedal there.........Then add back the buffered pedal.....
BOSS has a boatload of these, don't they?
Not too many buffered pedals in your chain now.....
That WILL goof out your tone
My beef is that the pedal tends to seek/roam about at times in finding it's note that's being tuned in.....
That is a tad frustrating........No doubt about it...

As a tuner this pedal is cool, yet it is burdened with useless features like the sream mode. I would be much happier if boss made a simple straight forward version - no gimmicks, no silly gags. If they elliminated all the crap and made a simple chromatic pedal tuner that then cost less I would be thrilled.
I really needed a tuner, but felt like a looser paying 100$ for the "luxery" of being able to tune my guitar on stage! I would have bought another brand that was cheaper but I wanted someting that would last.
The one great feature that this pedal has is the daisy caining feature that allows one to power other boss and like voltage pedals.
In short, for what I use this pedal for - standard tuning of my guitar on stage- this pedal is a little too expensive, but it does get the job done .

I've sat here and read EVERY EXCUSE in the world....LISTEN UP!, NO chromatic, or L.E.D. tuner (rack or otherwise), at ANY price, is going to perfectly tune your guitar. There is NO perfect tuning of a guitar in the first place! Its a physical immposibility. Before you buy ANY tuner, make sure your tuners on the guitar arent CRAP! (this is more often responsible for tuning problems). If you want to brag about something (accuracy), get a PETERSON. They have a heavy duty (true bypass) pedal called "Strobo-Stomp". Its cheaper than a rack unit, and NO other pedal can match it! You want easy and effective? Quit you're techo-bullshit and buy one!

Like most people i only use chromatic and it is precise and a must have for stage performances. If you are putting a pedal board together it is a must have. Put it first in the chain and power all your pedals down the line with the power link lead. Simple and effective.

The best sound this thing makes is absolutely no sound at all!!!
I am very picky about pristine sound quality in my effect pedals....I am using a '72 Thinline Telecaster into a Vox AC30TB so i want to maintain the tone quality......and man, is it good!!!
I use the muted tuning out jack for silent tuning as most people do and there is no sound or interferance in the signal when the pedal is engaged and when disengaged.
The actual tuning part of the pedal is perfect aswell. Good bright LEDs and smooth tuning action and clearly visible note indication. I have noticed that it works better when powered by the adapter rather than a battery, just stronger streaming i suppose.
It is as handy as hell and first choice for a pedal board. No need for anything more flash or expensive, this is pure quality in every aspect.

its a tuner, really aint that hard to use. choose from cent mode or stream. cent gives you a standard meter like readout, the further the lit LED is from center, the further out of tune you are. and stream is fun! the faster the LED's stream from one side to the other the further out of tune you are. the direction of stream tells you which way to tune. the 7 different tune modes seem a bit over the top. you can have guitar standard, guitar flat, guitar double flat, bass standard, bass flat, bass double flat and chromatic. i can only use chromatic as i play in drop D. guitar flat works perfectly for the low D string but then the rest of the strings are out. i font really see the need for any other mode than chromatic. i think its just something extra boss used as a selling point!

the sound quality when this unit is on bypass is good. there is no noise at all. when tuning you can choose to use the output or the bypass jacks. bypass means your audience can hear you tune and output means they cant. when useing output my amp is silent, and if i ever use bypass no noise is added to my signal.

This is not an issue, I don't know what the other clowns are doing. Basically this is possibly one of the most important pedals on my board. Put this with a WAH, a Mesa boogie, and an Analogman King of TOne, there is not sound one man cannot achieve! With the tuner being so dead on, it makes you appreciate the workmanship.
For those of you, like me, that got suckered into the 20.00 korg, spend some cash and do it right. Get this tuner! You will have it for a long time. Especially if you drop over a 1000 on stuff, you are better off in the long hall have a quality piece like this.
Trust me when I tell you, it does not color your sound. I need to give this a 10 as it meets my expectations at a dynamite price!!!! It allows you to sound better as ultimately you are tuning better!!!!

Been playing over 30 years.
If you are a bedroom player, beginner or don't gig often you don't need this tuner.
Save yourself some money and buy a Quick Tune or other cheap tuner.
But if you are a gigging musician this tuner can't be beat.
A lot of though went into making this tuner.
You just plug it in and forget about it untill you want to tune between songs.
You don't have much time to tune between songs and bending down to plug in and turn it on are too time consuming.
With this tuner just step on it.
It lights up and you can see it while standing and it turns the sound off so you can tune without annoying the audience or changing your guitar settings.
It's fast, easy to see and silent.
It has several features that I don't use.
I just use it as a stage tuner and it functions well.
I have an old Sabine tuner that I use at home.
Someone finally designed a tuner with the musician in mind.
Thanks Boss!
I can't live without it.

If you can tell the difference between red and green, and are proficient at stepping on stuff, then you should be able to use this pedal without too much of a problem. It's way more convenient than my Boss TU-12 since no unplugging of cables or flicking of standby switches is necessary. Just step on the pedal and you can tune in silence. Theres also a bypass output jack that lets everyone hear you tune, but that doesn't seem like something I would need. The manual is cute too. the chromatic tuner mode is a bit flawed because of the tiny red dot indicating a sharp note, but if you just look out for it its not such a problem. plus you can just use the guitar or bass modes and not have to worry about that.

I play a Rickenbacker 4003 through a Fender Bassman 135 with a 2x15 cab. The pedal isn't noisy at all and doesn't affect the tone from what I can tell. It's really like it's not even there. The TU-2 is a really accurate tuner from my experience. My friend has this stupid Carvin electric that seems like its never in tune; after using the TU-2, though, ive never heard anything so in tune in my life. i was really impressed.

I love this thing. I use it with an Ibanez EX series a Squier Strat modified with Texas Special P/U's a Fender Jazz bass and my old acoustic. The amps I use are the Ampeg BA115, Fender FM212R and many times I just run staright to the board through a Tech 21 GT2. I haven't noticed any difference in tone with the the bypass versus true bypass. One reviewer stated that he always felt that his tone could be better and IMHO the tone is your hands the only thing that made a serious difference in my tone was the GT2 which is a truly awesome pedal. One feature that I truly love, on the TU2, is the ability to accurately tune down to Eb. I can finally get that SRV sound by quickly being able to tune down for something like Pride and Joy. When we go into the Stevie stuff I usually grab the strat which is tuned to Eb for gigs. The board I use is a Peavey 800 Stereo Mixer going out to the Peavey CS800X amp driving custom Bozak PA speakers with Eminence drivers. I too leave this thing on stage for the open-mic that I do and everyone uses it and loves it. Having the string numbers as well as the chromatic notes really is a plus. Buy this thing. It will save you hours of frustration fooling around with a little Korg or QuikTune . Oh, one reviewer said it had a hard time tracking the bass. I had the same trouble. Had my fender in the shop getting flat wounds on it and some electronic work. Turned out the harmonics were out. My tech set it up the right way and this tuner is now tracking rock solid. You can almost feel a chunk when the string drops into tune.

This thing, like all Boss products is built like a tank. The only thing the bugs me is the battery compartment. The battery fit really tight. I would have to take a screwdrive or a really heavy pick and pry out the battery. I use this thing without a back-up all the time.

Been playing for about 31 years (god I can't believed I just typed that.) started playing when I was 7. I would replace this tuner if it were lost. Wouldn't replace it if it were stolen, cause I would be in jail for killing the person who kuiped it. Can't understand why I didn't get one sooner. Feel kinda of sorry for the Aussie that had to pay something like $300 for it. Shoot I would have bought it for him and shipped it to him.

It's a tuner. You only need it to tune and act as a power supply for your other pedals. I think your needs here should be simple. It takes nothing from your sound. Just don't be a dickhead and put a million pedals in your chain.
The manual is easy but I only use it for standard tuning so it's not even needed. I know it's a simple device but the thing I love about this pedals how easy it is. You just step on it. That's it.

Sounds great. I use it through my Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb and straight into a PA at other times. I leave it on stage at my open mic and let everyone plug their acoustics into with the signal going into the PA. I use acoustics and electrics with it. Nobody has ever complained about their tone through this pedal.
Players know good stuff.
Oh, I rarely use a battery. I use the Boss power adapter thing. Occasionally I'll put a Boss Chorus and Overdrive through my chain but not often. I always put the tuner first in the chain.

If this were stolen I'd replace it. I wouldn't consider other tuners. If you're reading this considering this pedal, then just get it. It's cheaper than most and better than most. Don't worry about spending less on a Fender pedal or some crap. This is the shit right here.
If I replaced every piece of gear I owned I'd always keep a Boss TU2. This pedal doesn't need anything more or anything less.
Every musician who plays on a stage needs this pedal. I don't take my guitar anywhere without it.

Very straightforward, good manual easy reading, needs a good battery though, I use lithium batts. I dont like power supplies, it doesn't matter how good they are, (I had a Voodoo Lab PP2), they cannot give a 9volt pedal the same voltage/current behaviour like a carbon or lithium batterie can. It's a fact that carbon and lithium batteries are a little slow in response. This can sometimes lead to a very slight compression effect, similar to that of a tube rectifier, but only very slightly. Alkaline batteries are however just like power supplies, in that they give whatever is needed right away. I would however use Alkaline in chorus or delay pedals. I only use this TU-2, a Fulltone wah, and 2 TS-9's.

I use this with Schecter strats, an old 60's Fender Blackface Vibroverb with JBL D140F, and Canare GS-6 cables. I use it first in line with my wah and 2 TS-9's. Let's have a look now at all this hype about True Bypass...
I'm really glad that this tuner has NO true bypass, because it's active bypass is really good at sorting out problems with long cables etc.
The reviewer below from Australia may have had a faulty pedal, 'cause just take a look at all the other reviews in the sound quality area!! I think this speaks for itself, this pedal will actually improve your tone in most cases. It is well known that Boss and Ibanez pedals have good bypasses so why all the fuss about true bypass?
This is, I'm sure, in part, due to some people putting more than 5 or 6 mixed pedals together. I wouldn't do that. I saw a guy once with over a dozen mixed pedals on his board, a really nice strat, and an equally nice fender amp, and he sounded like an elephant farting in a biscuit-tin!! I had a few Fulltone pedals once, all true bypass, and when I a/b'ed them with just one cable into the amp, the difference was huge. True bypass pedals will suck your tone too, even if it's just one or two. The plugs, jacks, switches, pedal housings, patch cables etc. will all add a lot of capacitance to your chain, which will in turn cut highs/presence from your fragile high impedance signal, They also pop when you switch them on or off!
Putting this tuner in front of pedals like wah's, and true bypass pedals, or even a couple of other non true bypass pedals, will drop the impedance dramatically, and improve your tone no end! When I a/b my chain now, with just the guitar cable into the amp, I hear no difference, and I've got good ears!
True bypass in a wah, is no doubt a good thing. But it's not super necessary in other pedals.
It's much cheaper for boutique pedal makers, to put a true bypass in a pedal, than it would be to make it with a GOOD active bypass!
So don't always believe all the hype, that true bypass be the holy grail....!!

This pedal is not only a great tuner, but also can be used to give your whole pedal chain a much better signal to work with.
Things like VHT's Valvulator and other preamps are designed to do just that, but this pedal is much cheaper, has a great chromatic tuner for guitar or bass, and does the job of a preamp/buffer just as good!

Two words: True Bypass. This pedal aint got it. You can't expect a no tonal difference between guitar-cable-amp and guitar-cable-tuner-cable-amp. Yes the unit is "reasonably" accurate and yes the unit has a "relatively transparent" bypass. But I just know that when it's in my rig (either in front of the amp or at 50% through the effects loop) my tone is suffering just that little bit. Admitedly, I'm too fussy about the whole tone thing...recently I've been reluctant to keep my crybaby out front of the amp because NOTHING compares tonally to plugging straight into an amp. Starting to think that this was a bit of a waste of money because at the end of the day I really wanted it in the rig (ie avoid all those separate hand held tuner problems). Looks like this'll simply replace my hand held tuner and sit on my amp or off to the side of the stage for set breaks. If you can tolerate the almost-true bypass this will be fine but I'm always thinking "My tone could be better right now".

Check the price. Aussie dollars ppl. You Americans have it SO easy. Buying these things for like $70 or $90 bucks. For almost $300 I should deservedly expect better. It's not like Aussies are sitting on $30 per hour at Wal Mart (or wherever). At any rate right now i'm going straight into my mesa nomad 100 from the guitar and am running only a ehx small stone, ehx pulsar and (of all things) a marshall supervibe through the loop at about 50%-70%. This is tonal heaven - the best I've experienced so far. The noise comes out into mesa recto 4x12 w/v30s and a half back 2x12 with G12T-100s. If this pedal just had true bypass it would be in the loop. Because it doesn't it's waiting at the side of the stage. I'm gonna have to consider a/b options to make it useful or just resort to using it as an upgraded version of my hand held tuner. A good device but just good, not great. Tone junkies beware.

has everything I could ever want from a tuner, I think.
Has a tuner for guitar and bass, and even a chromatic tuner, cool! Very useful for beginners or for people too bored to remember the names of the notes they're playing like me (and I've been playing for ten years...)
Has an option that allows for perfect tuning, too perfect if you ask me, but its good for the perfectionist.
Has a bypass option, a must!
ALSO, I THINK IT CLEANS MY SOUND OF HUM AND HISS... I BOUGHT AN EXPRESSION PEDAL OFF OF EBAY THAT WOULD SCRATCH AWFUL WHEN MOVED UP AND DOWN, BUT AFTER I PUT IT BEHIND THE TUNER IN THE LINE THE SCRATCH BECAME COMPLETELY QUIET. IT SAVED 60$, BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER EXPRESSION PEDAL.
Finally, it has the option of allowing a daisy chain to spawn out of it, so if you have more than one boss pedal, you'd be an idiot not to have one of these. (unless you own a noise surpressor or a line selector, both which also allow daisy chain to come off of it)
For the newbie: (a daisy chain is a power cord that connects all you're pedals to one adapter.)

It doesn't get easier than this. You select bass, guitar or chromatic. The bass and guitar options tell you the number of the string while tuning (1=E, 2=A) etc, the chromatic just tells you which chord it is, no matter if you're tuning a violin or anything else.
It has the usual needle-type pointer (done with a bunch of lights) and then this weird thing where the lights kinda like "flow" in either direction telling you which way to tune. When the lights move slower your closer and when the stop you're there. I thought the flowing lights thing was completely useless and difficult to use, compared to the normal tuning display.
You should read the manual, it's good and informative but the truth is, there's not much to this stompbox..it's just really simple, just the way I want it!
You could also use it as a splitbox if you needed to, it has two outputs =)
Sound Quality

As I mentioned previously, there's two outputs. The other one's muted when you stomp on the pedal. I personally wanna hear the tune from the amp while I tune so I use the other one. As far as I can tell, it doesn't change the sound at all.

Well, with my previous bass, an Ibanez GSR200 it worked perfectly 100% of the time but I've come to think active basses might screw it up cos I've been having some trouble with my current bass, an ESP C304. Sometimes the footswitch just doesn't react when I hit it, nothing happens, like, it stays on or won't light up. Also, I have to cut out the lows from my basses active EQ, otherwise the TU-2 has big difficulties figuring out the tune and isn't really reacting to what I play.
I have no idea what causes this but since it worked perfectly with the Ibanez, the fault's probably in the ESP. I need to do some experimenting..

trained monkeys could use this without resorting to the instruction manual! Plug it in, and it works. having said that, there are some confusing options that come up if you inadvertantly press the wrong knobs, but even those work fine if you like flashing lights. Really, I'd prefer it to have fewer settings.
Has a couple of output sockets, so you can tune up without sending a signal to the amp, which is my favourite for gigs, or with a signal, to annoy your band mates. Will also act as a power supply if you get a daisy-chain lead. Nice.

First I have to help others. I am glad it's not Korg, Fender or Sabine. Those all suck major tone and are either not accurate worth a darn, or are too sensitive to make the limited number of LED's usefull.
Bright LED indicators
The tuning modes with stored memory is awesome for quickly going from standard to flat tuning!!
Because its adjustable from 438-445Hz, you can calibrate to a piano or other tempermental instraments you will be playing with.
It has excellent Mute/Bypass functions and will power the other 9v pedals on your board.
Can't go wrong with this thing until peterson makes me a stage pedal unit.

if you're looking for a straightforward pedal tuner, it's very easy to use. Has additional modes as well, but I actually haven't dug into those. just wanted a straight-up tuner in a pedal that was easy to operate, and this is it.

No effect on sound (tone sucking) at all. When using the mute function, the mute engages seemlessly and silently...no pops or clicks.
In terms of tuning, it's very easy to use. In both the stream and cent mode it really does track (seemingly) instantly. I even threw some fretted notes at it for the heck of it and it nailed those too.
I prefer the cent over the stream mode because it's just more logical to me, though I think those who want a more precise mode will appreciate the stream. It seems to be a lot more surgical in displaying whether is note is in or out of tune, whereas the cent mode is just quick and dirty. But for a quick tune-up, perhaps during a short break in a song, the cent mode works great. Using the cent mode, I can get the entire instrument tuned up in about 7 or seconds...10-15 seconds in stream.

Plug in, stomp on it.
Wait a minute. Did you forget to put the battery in? Eeedjut! :)
Ther are different modes if you want them (the streaming indicator is the worst thing in the world when drunk), and you can adjust the pitch of the tuning to change from A440Hz if you really wanna.
It's got two output sockets. One that mutes the signal when the tuner's on, and one that allows the signal through when it's on.
It can also power up to 5 pedals. I've tired using this, but as soon as I plug a dasiy chanin poer lead from teh output into another pedal, I get a loud hum. I've never been able to power other pedals from this without that (My NS2 has the same problem, so could possibly be my power lead...)

It's indespensible as far as I'm concerned. I've got 3 tuners (including the one in the Boss GT-6). The TU-2 is by far the best.

This thing works for your practice rig as well as your stage rig. I always hated either unplugging the guitar to plug into a small portable tuner or tuning via the microphone on the tuner. I guess I'm lazy, but when I practice, I like to just stomp on the tuner, tune, and go.
This is the best overall solution to tuning, unless you're really particular and want a strobe tuner.

Sound Quality is not applicable, but I'll comment on what it DOES do. It tracks instantly. I've had so many others that kinda flutter, wavering between entire whole tones before they zero in on the actual tuning (and that includes digital tuners on crummy modeling amps). It has a useful semi-tone & full-tone downtuning mode so there's no guesswork in what you're aiming in alternate tunings. Seems to be quiet, but like someone else mentioned, yeah, it could use a condenser mic for acoustics. I don't play any acoustic stuff, so it's really no concern to me. It has very visble LED indicators including a big note display, unlike some tuners that either have cheesy backlighting on a "meter & needle" readout or with microscopic LEDs that you can't read the accompanying note designation that's stencilled on in 2-point font. Someone mentioned the utility of this pedal given the +/- 3 cents tuning range. That's a valid point, but I don't think the bar drunks will notice 3 cents. And bar drunks usually include the band. (Now maybe in the studio you'd want more, but for the stage--killer). Top-notch unit.

This is hands down the best stage tuner I've ever had. I retired my old Sabine long ago and have used the same Boss TU2 ever since. Very simple to use. One input, two outputs. Depending on which output you use determines if the signal is audible while you're tuning up. Really bright LEDs that are easy to read even in the darkest smokiest clubs. You can switch into different modes for guitar or bass. It has a really unique crazy looking tuning mode where the lights zip back and forth. Not that useful but looks cool.

Very easy to use. Good Manual. Basically just plug your guitar in the input and go from the output to either your amp or other pedals/Effects. Offers a vairety of tuning options for both guitar and bass. In the normal output mode when you push the pedal it kills your sound to the amps/effects and you just tune up in silence. When you use the bypass output, you can hear yourself tune up(And so can everyone else!!). For ease of use on the stage it has LED's. You have two options of visual tuning.:1. Led's center when in tune or 2. Streaming: the lights go around either right or left in a stream showing flat or sharp. When the streaming stops moving, you are in tune! The name of the note shows up in a large LED display between the tuning LED's whioch is nice for those of up with poor vision. One final thing and one the main reasons I got this unit is that you can power you other pedals from this unit. You need a PSA-120 and the optional daisy chain adapter but it is a nice feature.

Very good unit for what it does, a STAGE TUNER. Operative word here is STAGE. For the convenience of having the unit below you and easily accessable, you give up accuracy. The unit is rated at +/- THREE CENTS, which is alot of leeway. For instance, my Peterson Strobe is rated at .10 +/- of ONE CENT. Even my little Sabine LED tuner is rated at +/- ONE CENT. Some audio experts say that the normal human ear can't pick up anything below 3 cents of deviation so for those people it really doesn't matter but for musicians with really good pitch the deviation on this unit might be a problem. Anyway, for me it works just great and is very easy to use.

This thing is the best for one simple reason: You can actually see what note you are tuning from the floor to your eyes on even the darkest of stages. It is just as durable as the fender, but has a few more features. It is easy to find a suitable AC Adapter (the BOSS PSA-120). And it is clearly visable on stage. So good of a pedal that I am impressed with BOSS. I do not use effects, but now I am purchasing the BOSS GE-7, and the TR-2. Just bought the RV-3. THE BEST.

I've only had one problem with it so far, and it was a small problem. The Output became loose, after way to much use. Just tighted it up with pliers, easy fix, and it was my fualt for not checking the Input/Outputs for this problem after a lot for practice & stage use!! It does tend to eat up batteries though, but I've been meaning to get the power supply any way, so I can power all my Boss effects with the tuner.
I use this pedal differently than anyone else I've talked to, I USE IT A LOT!!!, and that's the only two problems I've encountered. By a lot I mean that I don't just use this as a tuner, I also use it as a sort of A/B box. I am the only guitar player in my band, and we have no bass player! We play metal/grind/sludge, whatever you want to call it, and it was hard to pull this off until I came up with this set up using the Boss Tu-2! I tune down and use two different amps(one for a more bright 'guitar' sound, and the other for a more 'bass' tone) and I split the signal with this tuner pedal! I also, put the amps on the oppistie sides of the stage to increase the effect/illusion of two instruments playing the same part. I send the Bypass(allways on) to the 'Bright' amp, and the Output(for silent tunning) to the 'Bass' amp. This lets me essentialy kick the 'bass' amp off and on to make it sound more like another instrument kicking in and out for build-ups, drop-outs, ect...! This pedal is great for this!!!!! And unlike other A/B boxes, stereo tuners, ect. this thing makes no terrible sound when you click it into silent mode, which is essential for my set up!

Anyone that is remotely familiar with boss knows that these thinks are built like tanks. They should just change the name from boss to TANK. You could probably take a couple thousand of these things over to IRAQ, drop them from a plane and destroy small villages, then pick up the pedal remnants, plug them in and be like you just bought the damn thing. Could easily derail a freight train with one of these and still be fully functional. There are not enough anologies in the world to describe the build quality of a Boss pedal. I rate it 11.

I use this with a Fender MIJ Hot Rod Reissue Floyd Rose Fat Strat, a Gibson SG Special, and a heavily modded Squier Stagemaster Strat. My amp is a Marshall MG100, going into a Marshall AVT flat cab.
Effects wise... I also use a Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion, OD-2 Turbo Overdrive, Danelectro Danowah, Zoom Hyperfuzz, Boss CH-3 chorus, and Boss PS-2 Digital Pitch Shifter/Delay. All of the noisy gear is hooked into a Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor.
It's very close to silent in operation, and entirely transparent when off. The LED functions do throw in a very slight static buzz, especially if you use the sequential tuner with its millions of flashing LEDs. However, this is only noticable on a clean channel with the gain cut and the master volume absolutely gunned. If you're on an overdrive channel it will never be an issue.
Also, I don't recommend you use the power out function, get a proper multi-supply like a powerbank, and that helps avoid spreading noise through power fluctuations. (although it does marginally increase the interference from the LEDs.
I guess the different tuner functions should go in here- as well as a bog standard though unusually precise LED chromatic tuner, which is I'm sure what everyone uses, it also has a sequential tuner, which cause lines of LEDs to move left or right to indicate whether you're too high or low, at various speeds. Very unintuitive and clunky. Finally, there's a "Moron" function for those who don't know what not to tune each string to- but this limits the flexibility of the tuner. Most of these modes are irrelevant, 99% of people will use the chromatic tuner. I'm not sure of what range of notes it can deal with, but it doesn't miss a beat with my detuned a step-and-a-half Precision bass, or my brother's ridiculous surf guitar setup Pacifica.
Depending on the mode, it can function on bypass tune, or on silent tune- the latter cuts all signal when the pedal's in use, and means it doubles as a mute pedal. I don't use that, but I can see its use

Of course you can depend on it, it's more durable than the moon. If you drop your anvil on it, you'd better get down the anvil merchants, because it's just going to break when it hits the Boss. In the event that the switches or jacks do break, it's very easy to replace them with bits from Maplin. Water can kill them, but otherwise they're immune to all physical harm. (my chorus pedal is nearly as old as me, and it's been toured by 5 different bands for its whole life. What does it have to show for it? Some paint scratches.

Well, it's a tuner, isn't it. Not very exciting. But it fits my pedal board, it's not as fragile as most tuners, and it doesn't need to be rackmounted like all the other tuners that aren't made of plastic. So that's all good. You could say it should be totally silent, but I've never come across any bit of gear that truly lives up to that. Being in tune is good, and this helps me be in tune. The End.

This pedal seems very easy to use, but there are a lot of different tuning features to use. I played around with it for about 5 minutes before I figured out how to make it work for me - chromatic, naming the note. The bypass is way cool feature - who wants to hear you tune up ???
The power supply feature is a "no-brainer". Connect one end of the daisy chain, and the rest to your Boss-style adapter accepting pedals to give them power from one battery. Saves money !!! I went out and bought (2) Energizer rechargable 9v's and the charger, so I will always have fresh juice.

This pedal did not effect my sound negatively in any way, shape, or form. I used tested outputs. No sound changes. No "pops" when engaging.
This pedal is a BOSS tuner. Like the TU 12, but with more modes (that are basically useless - I guess they wanted to justify the retail price of $99). It does a great job of reading the notes and helping me stay in/change tune.
The power supply does not add any hiss with battery use. I have not tried it with an AC adapter, but I am sure that there if there is hum that an AC adapter will pick it, it will pick it up. just use a fresh battery to resolve.

Boss has always seemed pretty dependable to me. Their stuff either works great or sucks. I've never had anything break on me. I don't imagine it to happening, but you never know.

They wanted to charge me $2.00 for an instruction manual for a BF2 I picked up used. They don't have them available on the internet ? It was available, and the rep seemed friendly. She doesn't make the rules...
I called Fender about an amp instuction guide and they mailed it to me, free of charge - it cost them $.75 to send it. Fulltones are downloadable. C'mon, Roland !!!

This tuner pedal is the shizy for rizy. It is easy to use as a tuner. It powers up to (8) other pedals (must have Boss-style adapter jacks).
The only thing it does to your sound is help keep it in tune.
I got mine for $77, new from Sam Ash. I told the salesman I saw one used for $65 in the Recycler - which I didn't - and he lowered the price from $89. He shoots....SCORES !!!

This thing is very easy to use. Read the reviews below for detailed descriptions.
The fact I love about it is the 'mute' function for silent tuning. No more bugging your fellow bandmates with tuning extravaganza.
The LED's are very clear and easy to read even from a phew meters away...
This is a real stage-pedal. I used to have a tiny Seiko tuner (small plastic case with a digital screen, illegable when you're a meter away from this thing, i.e. unusable on stage!)
It's nice to use this tuner as a powerdistributor for other (Boss?) foot pedals.

This tuner does not effect my sound at all. I really like the fact that it cuts my signal while tuning. I have it running through the effects loop on my Ibanez UE-300 so I can tune up and hear my signal through the amp if I want. I just hit the bypass on the UE-300 and tune up. It find that it is very accurate and tracks notes quickly. It also holds the signal longer than my other hand held tuners.

This is the first Boss pedal I have ever owned. I never really liked the combination switch/battery cover on Boss Pedals. I do however like the fact that you can change the battery from the top of the pedal. This makes sense if you are using it on a pedalboard without a power supply. I think other manufacturers are catching on to this design detail. It is built solidly and looks like it should hold up to years of abuse.

I have been playing for a long time and I would recommend this tuner to all guitar and bass players. I have it installed in my pedalboard and plan to keep it there. I would buy this tuner again and again and again.
