Moderately easy to build... I did have some issues right off the bat but quickly determined it was either a solder joint or a bad trim pot mount. Once she was working correctly it was very easy to operate (only two knobs!).

I used this pedal with my strat, hamer s.stevens, jem 77fp, ibz lp, cust shop thinline tele (and more) into my pedal board among my boss dlux reverb pedal, modded russian big muff, modded 74 crybaby, modded ts9, boss mega dist, boss ce2 & 3, eh english muffin, eh nano clone, boss flanger, boss ce-5, mxr phase 90, mxr carbon copy, dod punkifier, mxr wyld od... into a crate v18 w/ celestion vin30 and jj tubes.
A friend of mine has a ce-2 (black label) and this def rates up there with it. Much quieter when off, just as pretty when on.
No bass loss like w the nano clone, more presence than the boss ce-5, yet still transparent. I absolutely love it. Sounds great clean or with gain, unlike many other chorus pedals.

seems reliable... too early to tell but construction is equiv to mxr.

Haven't needed it yet, but the day after I ordered I shot out an email asking them to add on a few small things to my order and they responded quick and got the stuff out. THANKS BYOC!

I guess I'm a blues guy for the most part... I've been playing 24years... I also play a digitech 2112/halfler t3/peavey 5050 thru two celestion loaded 2x12 cabs, have an epi es295, dano u2, carvin, jackson.
If this was lost I would replace it without a doubt.
I love the clarity of this chorus... truly transparent... love the true bypass...
Can't think of much I don't like other than maybe the actual box - it's a bit rugged... a more smooth profile would be nice.
Fav feature - def the led blinking in time w the rate.

This pedal is fairly simple to use. Two dials, one for depth, one for rate. This is a DIY pedal but there is an online pdf file for assembly.

My effects are LP (or tele) --> sunface --> dunlop wah --> fulltone ocd --> BYOC chorus --> MXR analog delay --> fender blues jr.
Pedal is extremely quiet. It is a clone of the small clone and hits it pretty much dead on. You can easily mod it to add a vibrato effect with a switch. Pretty easy to get "Come as you are" tone as well as a Metallica "Nothing Else Matters"

After assembly it would only have an effect when the rate was at 3 o'clock or greater. After researching the BYOC forum I found there had been an issue with the 2.2 uf cap on the board. After replacing the sound was great. No problems since.

As above, I noticed that there was no effect. I e-mailed Keith and asked for advise on what cap replacement to buy. I got a prompt response to my e-mail and received a new cap from him in the mail in a few days. Now this was the chorus I was looking for!

I play mostly classic rock, blues. I like the effect it has on cleans to give a fuller, almost 12 string effect. I would probably never use it with distortion but it sounds good (just not what I like). I would buy this again if stolen. If you are looking at the EH small clone, this is it for you. If you are good at building there are mods to add depth switch, vibrato switch, etc.

2 knobs and 1 trim, not a bad sound in it. This is the best chorus I have ever used. I've had a polychorus, an old Dano chorus, and a few others here and there, this one is it. Its based on the small clone so it nails that nirvana tone, but it doesnt suck tone while off. It gets a 9 only because of the trim pot. If its not set correctly, the effect doesnt work. This was my first build, and it was super easy.

:

Sound Quality, it gets a 9 only because there is some ticking or clock noise at the higher settings, but thats part of it. It has a true Analog BBD chip in it, no sterile digital crap here. And its true bypass. Here is my set up. '94-96 G&L ASAT or Fender '72 RI Tele Deluxe/ Ernie Ball Vol/ Heavily Modded CryBaby/ Keeley Blues Driver/ Fulltone FD2/ Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive/ Heavily Modded Vintage Rat/ Modded Phase 90 #1/ Modded Phase 90 #2/ Boss OC-3/ BYOC Chorus/ Boss DD-6 w True Bypass Loop/ Modded Deluxe Memory Man/ Boss TU-2/ Matchless Lightning w Tone Tubby Classic. I can get that smooth glass like chorus at the lower settings to the wacked out super detuned 80's chorus at the higher settings. Every setting sounds amazing. I usually set both knobs around 12oclock, has the perfect warble and transparency.

If it was lost or stolen, I would immediately buy another one. No questions, this has made a permanent spot on my board. For the money, nothing NOTHING comes even close. There are tons of mods and ways to make this thing fit you, dont waste your money on something that will only fit 1 or 2 songs or only work on that 1 cover. If BYOC makes it, they are my 1st choice.

Pretty easy to use.....2 knobs! Had to adjust the trimpot inside JUST SO to get the right chorus effect.

Well, this is the best chorus I've ever used really. Even extreme settings sound great. I actually like using it like a vibrato effect sometimes. I have a Boss CE-3 chorus that was my fave for a long time, and I won't get rid of it just becuase it's got a certain charm. But when on, it dropped the signal and was muddy. This pedal sounds so clear when on, and when off it's like it was never there. Definitely destroys an EH Small Clone which is the basis for the design. Wonderful unit.

I play everything from hard rock to death metal and love using effects. I have so many now actually that I gotta build a switching system. And with all the killer BYOC kits I am always going to have some new pedal to build and it will sound way better than anything in the store! I will buy more hahaha! It sounds so good....deep fat chorus. Only thing I wish the kit had was a stereo option, but you can figure out how to do that with help online.

Pedal came in a kit from www.buildyourownclone.com. First time buiding a pedal and it was relatively easy if you take your time and are good at soldering. The instructions were pretty straight forward and all the parts were included and easy to identify. Took me about 3 nights to complete and worked perfectly the moment I fired it up. Only 2 knobs on this pedal, depth & rate so it is pretty straight forward and easy to get a good sound out of it.

Very nice analog chorus effect and a little on the dark side, which I like. I keep my depth at about 1:00 and the rate at noon. The cool thing is that this pedal is completely true bypass. It does nothing to your tone while on or off other than provide the effect it was designed for. I'm running mine in the effects loop of my Mesa Dual Rectifier on the orange channel in clean mode and it makes a world of difference. I had a Boss CH-1 and while it may be a bit more versitile as far as getting different types of chorus sounds, this pedal sounds much better and costs less. Plus after you plug into this unit you will realize that the Boss does suck some of your tone.

Can't really comment on reliability. If it stops working I only have myself to blame LOL! As far as the quality of the parts in the kit, everything looks top notch. After completion of the build everything is very sturdy. Metal casing, quality switch, etc. Just make sure your soldering and wiring are done correctly and you won't have a problem. TAKE YOUR TIME!

Haven't had to deal with them. I had a question on soldering one of the chips in the kit on the board so I posted my problem on the forum and was given an answer immediately. The forum is a very helpful tool and the folks there are more than happy to give you input if you have any issues.

I play metal and don't really use alot of effects. I wanted a bit of chorus for my cleans and this pedal gets the job done nicely. I like it so much that I intend to build the digital delay kit next for lead tones and may even order the overdrive as well for a little extra boost. If you are at all mechanically inclined and can solder I highly recommend building one of these kits. It's also pretty cool when your done knowing that you built it yourself and you can paint the enclosure and put your own personal touch on it. I left mine raw and drew the letters on it with a Sharpie so I did not go this route but I don't really care what it looks like cuz it sounds killer!

The instructions are very easy to follow to build this pedal. This pedal takes a bit more work than other build your own clone pedals, but if you follow the instructions, you shouldn't have any problems.
In terms of using the actual pedal, it's also easy to use. adjust the rate and depth, that's it.

I think this pedal sounds very good. It is voiced a little dark, which I really like. I find most chorus sounds to be cold and tinny, but this has a very warm and lush sound. There's still a lot of harmonic content too, so it doesn't sound dull, but the sound is very lush.

customer support is great. Keith is very responsive via email and on the forum through his website. there's also a community of other builders on that forum that can help out...it really could not be better service.
I had a missing resistor on another pedal, and keith mailed it to me right away.

This pedal is based after the small clone. The EH small clone is only $5 more, but it's kinda fun to build this. If you like projects, this is a very rewarding kit.

As far as being a kit, this is as easy to build as any kit I've ever seen, or can imagine. The instructions are easy to follow, and the board is laid out really logically. I bought the board seperately and sourced my own parts (I don't recommend doing this BTW- I had a hard time finding the right parts, it wasn't much cheaper, and had some problems with third party parts not working. As far as I've heard the parts the kit comes with are high quality, and guaranteed to work- I'll go that route for any more pedals from BYOC i build). I built this to the not-sold-as-a-kit-anymore fully loaded specs, and am really glad I did!
As far as the pedal goes, it is pretty easy to use- the width switch is cool but takes some getting used to, and the speed and depth knobs are useful throughout their range.

Using stratish guitars and fender amps, the chours is overall voiced pretty dark. I've had a guyatone MC3 that I didn't like because it was too dark- the BYOC chorus is much better than the guyatone. I like the sound of the guyatone A LOT- I am finding uses for it everywhere. IMO the fully loaded kit is a neccessity - the variations with the width knob alone are great, and very useful. I built the width knob with 6 positions- 2 more than the instructions said. The 1st position is really subtle, very nice for thinkening without sounding liek chorus. 2nd position gets into traditional chorusing, 4th position starts to get leslie-ish, pos 5+6 are increasingly wacked out.
The speed boost switch is ok- definitely tales some getting used to, and kind of a one trick pony, but a nice vibe that is different from a regular ring mod. The vibrato mode works great- lots of variation on the vibrato with the width switch. I haven't had another vibrato pedal before, so can't say this is as good as a VB2, but having considered getting a dedicated vibrato, I am not worried about it anymore.

The board itself is really well built- a 10 for that. Since I sourced my own parts and built this pedal into an enclosure with 5 other pedals, there is a much biger chance it will conk out on me at some point. However, since i built it, I know how to fix it, which is cool- I am most worried about connections breaking.

As a guy who isn't into the traditional chorus sound, I wasn't sure if I would even put this on my board. I built it into an enclosure with 5 other pedals figuring it would be a special purpose pedal- WRONG! It's on the board for good now. I'm amazed I'm considering using it on regular guitar sounds- it just sounds really nice. SO different from any digital chorus I've ever heard. Really organic and warm.
This pedal really shines, though, on noise making- putting my alesis bitrman ring mod or FM sounds through this fatten them up in a really nice and subtle way. Feedback loop pitches and strange stuff all benefit from this pedal- it's going to get a lot of use.
Again- go the extra mile and build the fully loaded chorus if you are at all electronically adventurous- I know keith stopped offering this as an option because of the extra tech support and other reasons, but it is worth shooting for if you don't mind the extra work.
