It's not really complicated you just need to play a bit with the knobs. I'm not giving a ten because the kbos are not labeled so you need to figure out which is which.

Mine is the 4 knob version of the Triangle V1.
I use a Fender Strat and a Fender Twin Reverb.
It sounds REALLY good. I've never heard a true vintage big muff but I've seen the comparison on youtube and the sound is almost exactly the same. The large beaver produce almost infinite sustain (if you play loud enough) and is smooth (compared to other fuzz like a Fuzz Face). It totally NAILS David Gilmour's tone. The best for the Big Muff tone.

It doesn't look particularly solid but if you take at least a little care of it, it should be alright. Mine was built by Axeandyoushallreceive and the builder did a kind of stupid mistake (switched two pots) so it didn't work properly at first but if you buy your kit unassembled and assemble it carefully you should be okay and I don't think Axeandyoushallreceive will do that mistake again.

Axeandyoushallreceive has honestly the best customer support I have ever seen. The day I paid I got an email saying it would ship. No waiting for this. Then Canada Post did a mistake in the shipping but the guy always answered my emails in a few hours at the most. Then I got the pedal and noticed something was wrong. I sent a mail that the guy transfered to the builder that answered me on the BYOC forums. The guy told me what I needed to do and I did it myself and also told me I could get it repaired without shipping charges. At the end, a believe I sent over 20 mails (because of shipping and pedal problems...) and he answered EACH of them in no time. The only reason I'm doing this review is to tell how good they are and this is totally honest. If every company had a customer support like that it would be wonderful. If I could put 15 on 10, I'd put 15.

This pedal is unbelievable. I don't know how to describe the sound but look on youtube for byoc large beaver and watch the video of the guy playing on a telecaster with a bunch of pedals. This is what it sound like but better in real because of the (probably) crappy mic he used to record the demo.
If it were lost or stolen I would buy another one for sure.

although i'm really not much of a big muff fan, i love this pedal. it combines the wild fuzz of a big muff while containing and tightening the sound making it more usable. and it still allows your own guitar sound and playing to come through. it's a great pedal...

my second build....fairly easy build. you know the drill....3 knobs....etc. a big muff is NOT an easy pedal to deal with. you have to be willing to fight with it for a while...lol. I have never owned one before this large beaver, but ive certainly heard it on recordings, and this pedal nails it. i give a 6...easy to build...hard to use. =)

Sounds great....the tone knob doesnt work like a traditional tone knob....it is capable of creating very strange and unpleasant sounds, but it can also sound wooly and warm. tons of gain....gilmour? yeah, its in there....simaese dream? yeah, with single coils its in there! from what i can tell this is a very good big muff clone. i have the bug and im looking forward to building a few more soon.

It's not very easy to get a good sound out of it. You must play with the settings and external effects to make it sing nicely.
The meaning of the knobs is quite obvious. There is a volume, sustain and a tone knob just like in all the others muff clones. There is no print on the surface of the pedal, so you must figure by yourself which is which. Additionally you will get a 4-position mode switch on the top of the pedal. It allows you to change the fuzz type.
I've ordered the pre-build version. The package contains no manual. I don't know if you will get one when ordering the DIY kit. Anyway, you will find everything on the BYOC website.

I've been struggling with myself about the note. Remember - the Large Beaver is just a straightforward clone of the ancient 60's Muff. The 90% settings just sound like shit. Some of them are awfully muddy, some of them are terribly thin. It takes time to get the right tone. However I can assure you there is one. Here is mine:
- fuzz type switch to its first position (classic muff mode)
- volume about 11
- sustain to its max
- tone about 3
Then the signal goes into the dirty channel of my 12au7 tubes amp. The amp is set to be cracked just a little bit (no significant overdrive but not perfectly clear also). In the effects loop there is a compressor and delay on. Sound is gorgeous! Very warm, but not muddy, sustaining to infinity. Gilmour is here! :)

I'm very happy with this pedal but I'm aware that it's not a versatile one. You must know what you want to get. Got a good amp, some effects and like to have a warm, sustaining, compressed sound to perfect your solos and melodies? Go and get it! Wanna have a versatile pedal to use in every occasion? Forget it! Buy a TS or something.
I'm playing for about 10 years and LB is a perfect match for the prog rock I'm playing. I haven't got experience with other muffs except the EHX reissue which sucks.

it's pretty easy since it only sounded good on one setting like every other big muff.

The sound is better than a current NYC BM but it wasn't up to the competition I compared it with.
I realise this pedal is an attempt to "clone" a triangle big muff not necassarily improve on a big muff, but I wanted to try one since the triangle muff is so sought after and expensive.
The pedal has the same faults I find with other big muffs: lack of clarity, woofy bass and a "scooped" mid range. To be fair it is less shrill and more clear than the NYC or green russian muff.
I prefer the Ibanez OD-850. I believe the OD-850 is also based on the triangle, but the sound is more focused and it has much more sustain and just plain better tone and vibe than this pedal. An od-850 will also set you back $200-$500.
I do like this pedal and it may well be that it sounds very authentic to the triangle. If you are chasing a very specific vintage tone it might be the best big muff for your money.
I have to call a spade a spade though. My comparison was Beaver, NYC reissue, Green russian, ICBM, Bobble, and OD-850. The beaver came in 4th.

I wanted Gilmour tones, and early Nirvana and I got it in spades!!! Roll back on the volume knob of your guitar and it gives a very nice mild crunch. I use this with a Fulltone Tube Tape Echo and a Fender Vibroverb with a Weber California Alnico. Don't waist your money on a Pete Cornish P-2. Buy this instead and save some serious cash. This pedal is about 10% the cost of a P-2 Fuzz. Can be very bassy and wooly or bright and trebly. The pedal has some noise, but nothing out of the ordinary for such high gain.

Well I put this together myself and being my first build, I have no clue how reliable it will be. My soldering skills are novice, but putting together was a snap. Took me about 3 hours.

I'll give it a 10 because it was easy to put together for a novice, cost about 90% less than a P-2 Fuzz, which I use to own. Sounds just as good if not better to me! Remeber folks Gilmour didn't use a P-2 when recording "The Wall". He used this circuit!

When I bought this I was going for a smaller version of the great "triangle era" Big Muff, because the reissues out there don't sound as good as the old ones. This sounds pretty good. I was shooting for a Pink Floyd "The Wall" sound. I can get it, but my only concern is that I don't get the treble sound that I wanted. I messed with the controls and I can get a pretty good "Young Lust" or "Comfortably Numb" sound. It'll take a little more tweaking. The guy who built the pedal for me was trying it out in the music store and some guy came up from the basement (where his kid was having a lesson)and asked what pedal it was, because how he loved how it sounded. The guy who built it for me also found that it sounds better with single coil P-ups, instead of Humbuckers.

It's about $10-15 cheaper than a reissue. And it's alot smaller, about a third of the size. Takes up less space on my pedal board. I like this pedal, and it was worth the investment. It it was stolen, I'd buy another...well I might try a Sovtek Big Muff, but I think this pedal would be just as good.
