CMATMODS Boss DS-1 Mod

Other pedals modded by Chad matthews - TS9, MT2, SD1.
This pedal has three knobs. Chad included a three way switch for me to select LED, ds1 mod diode, and diode lift (for a boosting, less gain effect). Lots of different possibilities here. Its not hard to get a good sound, but its a hell of a lot of fun to find a few great sounds.

I like alternative rock, high gain type music. I like the ability to go from a very saturated tones, to a darker mid/muffled vintage tone , to a more in your face smooth tone. This pedal nails it all. Before the mod- it was a little brittle- and a very scratchy sounding, despite the setting of the tone knob. the mod sounds smooth. the moment I start to use it, I can hear the possibilities of making sounds like current rock groups, and ones such as nirvana, alice in chains.

The switching capabilities give more sounds - and even more volume.. especially in the diode lift. really cool.

Im currently playing through this pedal with a humbucker guitar through a badcat 2x12 amp set up.

If you turn the volume all the way down, you can still hear a signal (with the pedal on). it doesnt get completely silent. but when the effect is off, there is no bleed through.

I would definatley depend on it! His work is top notch. Good parts were used.

Ive never really heard of chad matthews. I found him after looking to get my broken pedals modified by a professional (keeley and analogman).

I have experience building and modding, but along the way, i have broke a few. Its part of the process. I was about to shell out hundreds of dollars for the boutique guys, until i found chads modest website. I read about him, and his style, and I think I really clicked with it. I asked him questions, and he was always curteous and got back to me.

In fact, the only reason Im writing this is because I feel deserves alot of credit and recognition for all the work he did for me. He not only fixed my pedals, but modded them, customized them to MY specifications, and shipped them back very quickly.

I love this pedal. I love the LED setting, and the DS1 mod setting. I craved diverse mods in one pedal, and I got it.

I know the other pedal guys are great, and im not saying they are all hype. But chads work is solid, and I am definatley going to be a repeat customer. I hope people read this review and give him a shot. His prices are cheap, and include shipping.

Not added controls... Tone, Level, Distortion. No manual, but Chad would tell anything you'd need or want to know about the mod performed on the pedal.

Using it with a Gibson Les Paul w/ an Iommi PU in the neck & Duncan Invader PU in the bridge into a Fender MusicMaster Bass amp (Torres Mod). I A/B'd the CMATMOD'd pedal against a stock BOSS DS-1... whoa... the difference is amazing. The low ends stand out and it's less "raspy" of a distortion. It really does sound like a recorded Marshall amp... it just has that quality that's undeniably "Marshall". Your guitar and amp are still a major factor, but dang if this pedal doesn't make you sound like you're in a studio.

It's still a BOSS DS-1... with better components.

Have Chad mod your gear... and tell him what you want. He's a great guy to work with and knows all about tone. It's worth every penny.
