CMATMODS Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer

Same knobs. I use a bit of volume over bypass for lead boost. I use a bit more tone than before the mod. I like to use more gain than before the mod as I like the sound much better. The only difficult part is deciding where to set my gain as it sounds great throughout the range.

It still sounds like a Tube Screamer no matter what settings I dial. Very identifiable as a TS9. Probably a bit more gain than before the mod. Tough to get just a slight grit but you wont want to.

I can't seem to want to use this for rhythm much as it has a very full sound. Important to know that I felt the same before the mod. I feel it really shines for lead work. Very creamy, lots of sustain

Sometimes I get noise out of the pedal. I can't seem to identify what sets it off. Grounding in some clubs/ variations with my other pedals?

I love this thing. I am always astounded by how good it sounds. Though this is subjective, it calls to me.

Sure. I think some prefer the Boss style footswitch to the Ibanez, but I like it's "toughness". Sometimes perhaps too tough with flipflops or bare feet.

Chad seems fine. Communication is short and to the point. I wish the sound clips contained more examples with humbucker guitars.

I've been playing for a long time. This pedal has become an integral part of my sound. I can't imagine having to find a replacement.

As I said earlier, It is difficult for me to decide on a level for the gain as it all sounds good. I would like to have 2 so that I could have a choice on stage. However, I use another distortion pedal in order to have a bigger sound palette since a Tube Screamer is tube screamer.

Overall, it is extremely smooth. Sometimes I forget that it is distortion and not just a sustain pedal.

I would recommend this mod to anyone.

Three knobs - level, drive, and tone. The tone can go from a vintage sound to a marshall like sound when used with the drive.

1 switch, it goes from a diode to an LED. The Led is louder and has a different flavor to the clipping.

A true bypass 3pdt switch was installed for true bypass! VERY COOL.

Im not sure what Chad did to it. I dont know what chips got swapped, what caps. All I know he took alot of care installing the stomp switch and the wiring, and the other goodies I asked for. The result is a great sounding tubescreamer. He didnt change it into some crazy metal pedal or anything. It does what it is supposed to do. It is clear, and can cover a wide range of tones. If you read my other reviews for Chads mods, youll see i look for versatility and an overall good sound. Simply put, this one has it. You can play open chords without being buzzy, and I really like the sound of this pedal when fooling around with the toggle switch on my guitar. It can be creamy, and in your face.

The knobs are totally useable too. Some pedals, you dont really turn the gain or tone up all the way. For the modded ts9- it sounds great with the knobs cranked either which way.

When I first received this pedal, it seemed to fade in and out of the effect. I have some experience with pedal building and modding so I took a look inside. Everything seemed solid. The only thing i could think of was the pedal may have been jostled when mailed. I refowed the joints just to be sure, and now everything is a-ok I think. The other pedals I got modded by chad are solid and I believe this situation with the ts9 was just something that happens when shipping. thats the only reason i gave this section a 9.

I have experience building and modding, but along the way, i have broke a few. Its part of the process. I was about to shell out hundreds of dollars for the boutique guys, until i found chads modest website. I read about him, and his style, and I think I really clicked with it. I asked him questions, and he was always courteous and got back to me.

In fact, the only reason Im writing this is because I feel deserves alot of credit and recognition for all the work he did for me. He not only fixed my pedals, but modded them, customized them to MY specifications, and shipped them back very quickly.

I play rock, alt rock, and ambient stuff sometimes. This pedal covers it all. I love other things like the switches (true bypass and diode switch), and high grade components, and bright LED that He installed. I think this pedal sounds great with humbucking guitars and strat types. If this got stolen, I think i would be sick.

I know the other pedal guys are great, and im not saying they are all hype. But chads work is solid, and I am definatley going to be a repeat customer. I hope people read this review and give him a shot.
