Ease of Use : 10
Great pedal. I've owned several compressors--from Boss junk to the amazing Keeley compressor-- and for the price, this is one of the nicest and easiest to use.

Sound Quality : 10
Very nice. It is different from the Keeley in some ways-- the CMAT is voiced a bit brighter, I think-- but with the tone knob, you can certainly dial in about anything. I really like the transparency of this pedal more than anything. The compresion is relatively subtle up to about 1:00 on the sustain dial.

Reliability : No Opinion
Don't know. I just got the pedal yesterday. So far, no problems although I think that the script lettering will probably rub off but I'm not certain.

Customer Support : 10
I've heard that the support is great from this company and based on the correspondence I've had I would tend to agree.

Overall Rating : 10
Sounds great. I think this is a keeper of a pedal.

3 knobs and in/out.
its pretty simple to operate once you understand the way that compression works.

Sound Quality : 10
Oh wow!!!
This is so transparent and so quiet too (for a compressor anyway) it gets a bit noisy at extreme settings but thats to be expected.
At usable settings noise is really low.
It just seems to make everything sound better in a way i cant really describe.harmonics seem to be boosted when clean.distortion sounds are tighter.i run it before a usa big muff and it tightens the low end nicely.i run it after my wah and it evens out the sweep volume changes.
All in all a great addition to any pedal board.........

Reliability : 10
only had it a week so who knows but its built solidly..

Customer Support : 10
I havnt dealt with customer support but ive heard they are great and very helpful/

Overall Rating : 10
All in all a great transparent pedal that just improves the sound subtly like a good compression pedal should,

Ease of Use : 10
Very easy to use to me but I had extra added to this pedal by him there was two added toggle switch that add fat to the sound and the other toggle cuts the tone pot off this man did a great job

Sound Quality : 10
I have toured with people such as Sister Hazel,Lonestar,Terri Clark and other's and have endorsements with alot of pedals but this is a great pedal the compressor he hand built by him self is great he added a toggle that make it a little fatter sounding and also a tone pot and a toggle that can cut the tone off so it becomes the Ross again. I know my pedals and I tell him what I want and he goes to the bench and makes wanders I hope you guy's will pick up few of his pedals.

Reliability : 10
Made with great parts looked inside at electronics and he use's good parts and if it breaks and I'm on tour I know this guy is so great he would overnight me one so what else can you say

Customer Support : 10
Very nice person. We sent alot of emails back and forth lol. With my touring and session work I'm very busy put it this way Im so busy I send emails instead of phone and I problie worried the hell out of him lol he was right there answering every single email and giving advise

Overall Rating : 10
Like I say I tour I have Keeley,Xotic,Visual Sound, and you name it. The small price is offer's is well worth this. I took out my Keeley compressor and replaced it with this compressor. He has taking care of me and made me want more pedals from him. Im greatly to say he might not be known yet because he is a newer pedal builder but he will get to top I will push him over to all the professional players. Pick up his pedals there awesome. Want advise about his pedals I will tell you just email me at Roadchat@aim.com

Mine is the two know version. I think there may be an internal trim pot (?) but I've never had to open the thing up. It sounded great right out of the shipping container. Left knob goes from transparency to squash, right knob balances the output and can even add a little boost.

Sound Quality : 10
Simply put, it's amazing. I'm using it with various guitars into a Sundown tube amp (it's an old boutique amp from the 80's). It's dead quiet when it's off, and nearly dead quiet when it's engaged. I recently did a session and asked the engineer if he could add some compression to my guitar. He said, "well, I have a compressor, yeah, but it's gonna add some noise". I promptly replied, "Okay. Mine doesn't." And I went and grabbed my CMAT from my box. I like to use compression as an effect, just a little squish. This thing gives me exactly what I'm looking for, and the tonal character is like having an aural expander. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy this pedal.

Reliability : 10
It's a rock. A brick. There's very little to it, but everything is top quality and solidly built.

Customer Support : 10
I've e'mailed Chad on occasion with questions, mostly, and he's been extremely pleasant and helpful.

Overall Rating : 10
Sound: 10. Value: 12. If you want a simple compressor that expands the sound of your guitar without getting in the way, this is IT. I've been playing professionally for 25 years. I have tons of gear. I play all styles from rock/blues/jazz/country/R&B/Soul/Funk wuddever. If I lost this, I'd most certainly get another. I haven't done any A/B comparisons because I'm just extremely pleased with this unit, so I don't consider other ones. I know the Keeley is a major hit, and a fantastic unit (most of my friends have one). But for less than half the price, the CMAT will definitely impress the daylites out of the most discerning guitarist - especially those on a budget!! For anyone interested, I recently used it during a live jam recording. You can check out samples at www.duaneallenharlick.com/cmat.html.

Mine is the three knob version with the external attack. Very easy to figure out and use.

Sound Quality : 10
The sound is awesome and just what you want a compressor to be. No noise and responds well at various settings. I've used a Barber Tone Press and an Analog Man Bi-compressor and both were great, but the CMATMODS compressor is the best I've used.

Reliability : 10
Solid, well built construction - no worries.

Customer Support : 10
Chad is the best. Timely response to emails and I have no question that he stands behind what he builds. Great guy to deal with.

Overall Rating : 10
Couldn't be happier with this compressor. The price is reasonable and the product is exceptional. Best I've found.

When I got the pedal in the mail, the two knobs (sustain and level) were both at around 1:00, so that's where I started, and it sounded great right away. I haven't strayed too far from that setting: I'm really happy with both knobs at 2:00.

Sound Quality : 10
I bought this pedal on a whim: I was on Ebay, looking at compressors, something to compete for top honors with my beloved HomeBrew CPR Compressor (a great pedal). I got the CMATMODS pedal for $95, including shipping. I loved it within two minutes of owning it; I COULD NOT believe that Chad's compressor was even more lively and characterful sounding than the HomeBrew. I'm playing various Strats into a Roland Cube 40 and out through a pair of headphones: I live in an apartment with finicky neighbors, so this is my rig for 90% of my playing. I REALLY need something to spruce up my signal, because the Roland--though GREAT for what it is--is still only what it is. The Signature Comp really adds a lot of life, fullness, and sparkle to my tone--in addition to doing that sustainy thing that you use a compressor for in the first place. If my amp is on, so is the Signature Comp.

Reliability : 9
I liked the first one so much, I immediately asked Chad to make me another one, and I offered him $20 bucks more than I paid for the first one. Both pedals have functioned perfectly, and the interior of both pedals is identical. I'm no expert, but I've owned a lot of boutique pedals, and Chad's work appears very neat, tidy, and well-executed. These are clearly built by a guy who has down some homework. One quibble: the circuit board is secured to the housing by an applied goo substance. This method seems very secure, but I would prefer the use of screws, if only for appearance's sake.

Customer Support : 10
Chad is a great, accomodating guy who is extremely easy and fun to work with. When I told him I LOVED his pedal, and asked him if he'd make me another, he agreed and acted like I was doing HIM a favor, when I clearly felt like it was the other way around.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
One thing about solid state amps: they HATE distortion pedals. Every one of my dirt boxes sounds like crap through my amp, so it's been a real life-saver for me to discover the glories of a good compressor. The same week I bought Chad's pedal, I splurged on another boutique compressor made by a new company. I got that one in the mail first, and I didn't like it; it really squashed my signal and rolled off all the high end. It sounded very "pedal-like". The beauty of Chad's Signature Comp is that it does the sustainy thing for your signal, while at the same time adding appropriate color and tone-enhancing sparkle and life. I click it on, and all of a sudden it's like I'm playing through a much more expensive amp. AND, it's a sound I never get tired of: there's no tone fatigue here, no feeling that you're listening to a gimick that is going to wear thin. Dollar for dollar, the CMATMODS Signatue Comp is one of the greatest values I've ever got in my life.

2 knobs: level and tone. How much easier can a pedal be? The production model Chad has available now is only 2 knobs without the extra tone knob. I have owned a Ross compressor in the past, and this is the exact correct format.

Sound Quality : 10
Dear Lord Almighty! TONE!!! My Ross compressor was misplaced (stolen) in the '80s at a 3-band show along with a tuner and my power strip (come on guys, was that necessary?). I was a metal player at the time, and the compressor was given to me, so I had no idea what I had lost back then. Since then, I've used the standby Boss compressor. Not bad, but it really colors the tone when engaged no matter what you do, and it has an artificial attack no matter where you set it. I've always felt this would have been a great pedal if they got rid of all those knobs. Anyway, on a whim, I contacted Chad. He gave me two compressor choices, and I went with the Ross clone due to my experience with the original. I got this thing in the mail, plugged it in, and cannot find a way to make it sound bad! The sustain knob goes from transparent to sweet squash without being overdone. It never gets fake sounding. True Nashville dream! I use it prior to my overdrive pedal so I can compress both guitar sounds, and it simply sings in either situation. I can't believe a pedal that sounds this good is so easily attainable, and that some major company (ahem Roland) hasn't decided to do something like this. Not to mention, when the sustain is cranked to 10, it's still quieter than the Boss compressor at 5! A perfect "10" in tone!

Reliability : 10
Die cast MXR-style project box with a larger footprint. Run over it with your Monster Truck. I'm sure it'll still work fine. I could easily use it without a backup. Nice heavy-duty true-bypass switch, interior secured tightly and insulated in foam and hot glue. It ain't goin' nowhere.

Customer Support : 10
I wish I could give Chad a "15" here. He dealt with a lot of email from me discussing tone. He formulated hypotheses based on my descriptions, and this pedal was right on the money! He's also been way helpful with other things with me. He really goes out of the way to make you happy, and that's why I would go to him first for any other pedal I'd ever need. Not to mention, with quality like this, where else would you go? He's affordable and boutique quality. Shipping was super fast. Turnaround for a hand-built device is surprisingly fast as well. I doubt I'll ever have to call him due to pedal failure, but if I did, I'm sure that he would be super helpful there as well.

Overall Rating : 10
I'm playing country, funk and hard rock in a cover band. The diversity in styles meant that I needed a compressor that would do a LOT without too much knob tweaking. This baby will do anything you need if you want it to sound natural. If you're one of those '90s pop bands looking for that fake sound, this won't do it. But who plays that stuff anymore anyway? If it were lost or stolen, I'd be on the phone with Chad within the hour to build me another, and would hate every gig I played until the new one arrived. Compared to the Boss, it's a no-brainer. Compared to the MXR DynaComp, it's got the same simplicity, but WAY quieter and has more expansion. Trust me guys and gals, if you're gonna buy a compressor, it's worth the extra pocket change to get this instead of a production-line pedal.

Very easy to use. Two knobs.
Sustain.

Level.

Easy!

I pretty much have it set where I like it. BUT, I do change it every once and a while for that great nashville country pickin' sound.

I play Rockabilly and this thing is great.

As with almost any compressor, it does have a little noise, but the least of any other compressor pedal I have owned.

Reliability : No Opinion
I could probably thow it off a building and it would still work.

Heavy duty build..

Customer Support : 10
Chad has answered every question I have thrown at him. And I am very picky when it comes to buying effects.

I have always been happy with his customer support.

Overall Rating : 10
If you are into music and want to get a tight sound with some great sustain, or twangy Rockabilly or Country, this would be a great addition to your rig.

I own a few of Chad's pedals, and they are all great. I will probably switch out more of my pedals with Chad's stuff.

If it was stolen , I would buy another one.

Thanks Chad.

this is an upgrade version of a Ross compressor with 4 knobs. simple enough to get the right amount of compression AND the tone!

Sound Quality : 10
I once attempted to build a Ross compressor, and it was working at one time. I loved it, but it was noisier than this unit! even with full sustain, the noise level is not overbearing. compression is very smooth, the tone selector (?) that Chad added is VERY handy, too. I can use this compressor for guitar and bass.

Reliability : 10
built like any other quality boutique pedals.

Customer Support : 10
Chad is the man! he responded to all of my questions and requests in a timely manner, and he built the perfect compressor for me. if I could, I would give it "11" here.

Overall Rating : 10
I play in indie Rock / Britpop / clasic rock styles, been playing for 17 years so far, own strats and a 335 copy, heavily modded J bass, too. I would get it again in a heartbeat.
if you don't care which decal is on your pedal, go boutique. this is not some mass produced with cheap components in China. this is a quality handmade American made pedal. we need more pedal builders like Chad!
