really easy. 3 basic knobs, with a lot of flexibility. i prefer simple pedals, i cant stand a bunch of knobs... just makes my OCD worse!

Sound Quality : 9
setup: stratocaster > mxr micro amp > boss phaser > blood drive > fender super champ.

i use the micro amp (volume pedal) to actually drive the blood drive a little harder for solos/choruses, and keep the gain at about 10 o'clock as my default overdrive. i love it. to me, it sounds classic, old school crunch. sounds nice for dirty blues sounds. i use the phaser before it to keep that effect more on the subtle side.

Reliability : 8
i velcro'd it to a homemade pedalboard and the velcro was so strong it actually tore off the plastic battery cover on the bottom of this pedal. thats my fault, though. i use a power supply anyway, so the bottom is just taped on.

i depend on this thing without a backup and im never worried.

seems sturdy enough, i guess.

heard good things, never dealt with them myself and dont expect to.

Overall Rating : 10
it does what i need it to do and does it well.
i was skeptical at first due to the graphics.

i consider this an essential part of my sound. i like it because its different, and i like that it sounds nothing like it looks. makes it a weird, but cool addition to my setup. its simple and it sounds amazing. nuff said.

Just three knobs, as simple as good!

Sound Quality : 10
First of all: It is NO pure Metal Pedal! Do not expect hi gain sounds from it because it will NOT deliver them.
But that does not matter to me anyway. Just to say: It blew me away! I play vintage, 70' Style Doom Rock and the way the pedal works with the volume knob of the guitar (I use Gibson Les Paul Studio with Peavy Valveking Head and Marshall Cabs) is amazing, because you can level to all stages of distortion without loosing tone.

Reliability : 10
Build like a brick.

I havnt delt with em.

A MUST HAVE for all lovers of honest distortion. No Fake, plastic ******** here, its pure, analogue mayhem and you'll love it!

It's easy to get a good sound out of this. The only thing to keep in mind is the knobs are set up like a normal Overdrive pedal even though they are not labeled like it. Volume(Inject),Tone(bleed),drive(flith). I also like the fact the step button has just enough fight to it that you can feel a slight click when you step on it.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm runing a Schecter hellraiser FR n a cheep crybaby through a marshall MG 15 watt. I'm not sure if it's my EMG's or this but I get a sweet "Seek n Destroy" tone that is great for crunchy single note riffs n screaming leads (beautiful for "nothing else matters" solo) and when you turn down the gain you get a cleaner tone that has just a little bit of break up(Ex.One intro solos sounds awsome)

It's definalty better for lead work over rhythm stuff.(I probly just don't have it set up well for rhythm is my guess)

It sounds alot like a normal overdrive(not over saturated like most metal pedals) but WAY louder n more gain!!

It's not noisy at all. Unless I use it to boost my Marshall. I get a nasty hiss. But I blame that on the amp it sux donkey nutz.

Reliability : 10
Built like a coffin shaped tank from hell. It road in a pick up truck bed with a crazy drive. And it came out of that experience prefectly fine. Cast aluminum kicks ass! I've got enough faith in this pedal I'd gig without a back up.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had the need 2 deal with'em. But that comerical with John5 playing it. Guess what?! that's really the coffin working it there! So their not trying to pull anything over on you.

Overall Rating : 10
I play alot of classic metal(Ozzy, Metallica)and it awsome for that. and some thrashy stuff(testament, megadeth). It's not that good for thrash(so I'll proubly get something else for that).

If it was stolen I'd deffinantly buy it again.

I love that it cleans up nicely. I enjoy the fact that metallica and Rhoads(Ozzy) both use dynamic contrast in their music and this pedal gives alot of contrast thats easy to control.

I've played a danelectro black coffee, Boss SD-1, and the line 6 uber metal. black coffee n uber metal are way to synthetic, and the SD-1 is just unbeleiveable too weak. This pedal has a great balance between organic sounds and super gain.

Just get it. you'll like it!

Just updating my review from last time.
I've had this pedal for well over a year now and it is still an essential part of my setup. I found out that it even works fairly well as vocal distortion. Its a little over-compressed, but if thats the sound you are going for, why not? Still solid 10's across the board.

Sound Quality : 10
Kicks the TS9 Tube Screamer's ass up and down the sidewalk.

Reliability : 10
Its been getting thrashed for the last year and still works, so I'd say its pretty reliable.

I met with Jonny last year at Fangoria and he was very nice. Signed my pedal and gave me free stuff, so cant really complain about Coffin Case as a company.

3 knobs, one switch, runs on a 9volt adapter or battery.... dosent get much easier.

Sound Quality : 10
I was very impressed with this unit. First look you would think some cheap super saturated distortion pedal, due to the coffin shape and skull on it...... but we have a COffin endorsement so i gave it a shot.

This pedal is hands down the best distortion box for the money. It sounds totally analog and vintage. Can be used as a distortion box or as a signal boost for solos. Very bluesy, old rocky sound to it. Honestly it does not even have that much distortion in it. Running it through the clean channel on my Orange Rockerverb sounds fantastic... gives me an extra channel of gain. This pedal was actually made by MXR and then sold my Coffin Case. PLUS its 100% True Bypass!! will not rob your tone when off!

Im super picky about pedals and I have hated about every distortion box out there (except for the Fulltone Full Drive), but I absolutely love this pedal!!!

Reliability : 10
Built like a tank!!

Customer Support : 10
great folks over at Coffin Case.

Overall Rating : 10
I play a rock/punk/indie style. Kinda Queens of the Stone Age/Refused/The Police sound.

This is absolutely the best distortion box for the money hands down!

This pedal makes it easy to get a great distortion sound. It's very simple and easy to use, and you can get a very wide variety of distortion sounds out of it.

Sound Quality : 9
This pedal can do anything from a classic overdrive to a modern metal distortion and everything in between. This is also one of the quietest pedals I've ever owned, and it's true bypass!

Reliability : 9
I haven't owned this pedal long, but it's built like a tank with all metal construction, and I haven't had any issues as of yet.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had to deal with this and probably never will.

Overall Rating : 9
I play everything from blues and classic rock to modern medal and shred. This pedal works for me because it's versatile enough to cover all of these styles. I've been playing guitar on and off for 21 years, and I've tried just about every amp, pedal and guitar known to man. I use a Peavey Heritage amp, and a Peavey Sheffield amp at the moment. My guitars consist of a very customized USA made Peavey Predator strat with a Seymour Duncan Hotrails in the bridge and stacked Duncans in the middle and neck positions, and a custom Schecter Elite 006 with an EMG 81 in the bridge and a EMG SA in the neck. I am always going through music gear, but this Blood Drive pedal is worth holding on to, and I would replace it if it were lost or stolen.

Normally I'm not the biggest fan of overdrive pedals, but I think this sucker changed my mind. The manual has some great suggestions for differant tones, but because my guitar is currently in the middle of an overhaul, I use this for my bass, and it sounds hellacious.

Sound Quality : 10
I plug this into my bass guitar and it sounds like its coming straight from the nether regions. I like it. I'm gonna switch from using my Boss overdrive pedal to this one.
It isnt noisy at all, there is no fuzz, no buzz, no humming...
I play an ESP-F254 through a Peavy Bassic 112. The amp itself is pretty run of the mill, so its nice to add some balls.

Reliability : 10
This thing feels like you could club somebody over the head with it repeatedly and not come to any harm. I dont have very long patch chords, and I move around alot, so this pedal is always getting bounced around. Nothing ever comes unplugged, though. Coffin always makes pretty high quality products in terms of durability, and I think they outdid themselves this time.

Customer Support : 10
I've been dealing with this company extensivley for the last few months, and let me say that they are some of the nicest human beings I've come across. You call them up and you can actually talk to a real human being! Jonny Coffin is a great guy, he'll really go all out for you.

Overall Rating : 10
I play alot of differant types of music, but right now I'm focusing on really thrashy metal/punk fit to raise the dead. I've been playing for seven years now, so I think I know what I'm talking about when I say how much I love this pedal. If it were lost or stolen, it would be replaced immidiatly. The coffin shape is pretty cool to look at, its got some nice paint on there, the skull decal is cool enough to get tatooed on your person. Like Doyle says... 'Buy or die'. And I'd listen to Doyle if I were you...

It is pretty easy to dial in a good sound, the manual is quite helpful, you just set the knobs like they are in the picture and it sounds great.

Sound Quality : 10
This thing sounds awesome! I can finally get that harmonic feedback out of my amp at low volume levels. I have a Marshall 1/2 stack, and with my Dime guitar the sound is just incredible. The guys in my band can't believe my new sound, and the other guitar player in my band is buying a Blood Drive because my tone is so much better than he gets with a Metal Zone.

Reliability : 8
I haven't really had it long enough to know if its reliable, but it is built very rugged. It is made in the USA, and it seems to be indestructible.

Customer Support : No Opinion
It's too new to really know, never had a problem.

Overall Rating : 10
I play aggressive metal, this pedal is a perfect match for what play, I couldn't imagine doing a gig without this thing, it is my sound. When I so that the guy form 1349 used this pedal, I knew it was for me.

Coffin Blood Drive Review

I bought Coffin???s new Blood Drive pedal on a whim. I had heard really great things about the Blood Drive and I was looking for a new distortion pedal with a modern vibe to complement my current more retro sounding distortion pedals; namely Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive and Barber Electronics original Direct Drive. Being that Coffin is known for their coffin shaped guitar cases, I was a bit skeptical to buy a guitar pedal from them, however I had heard rumored though that the Blood Drive pedal was actually being manufactured by MXR. Not only that, but that the engineers at MXR were so stoked on their new circuit they wanted to use it in one of their own pedals instead of licensing it out to Coffin. Whether or not this is true I don???t know, but I took a shot at buying one online knowing that I could return it if I didn???t like it. To make a long story short the Blood Drive blew my socks off from the get go. It???s not so common these days that a product actually follows through on its claims. I can honestly say that I was pleasantly surprised with the Blood Drive from the moment I switched it on. The Blood Drive is advertised as a distortion unit voiced for modern sounds with the ability to dial in some old school crunch. The Blood Drive follows through on its claims and delivers a solid amount of adjustable distortion with a fully adjustable volume boost and tone control knob. In fact it???s capable of more volume boost (knob labeled INJECT) then any pedal I???ve ever tried. You???ll have no problem cutting through the band on any guitar solo if you need to, or dial the volume down to however you like.

The usual tone knob in the middle (labeled BLEED) works as you might think to let you dial the high end up or down. Nothing fancy here, just twist till it works for you. The third knob is the distortion control (labeled FILTH) and let???s you choose from a mild crunchy rhythm to an all out lead searing madness. Even at its max setting it doesn???t do the insane metal thing though. I don???t think that???s what it was designed for. To my ears it definitely favors the modern tone more so than vintage, although you can pull off the vintage sound if you need to. I have my other units I???ll use for that. This pedal works great with humbuckers and single coils. I haven???t tried it with other pickups. I mostly use it with a ES-335 knock off with Gibson hum buckers and a Mesa Maverick amp. Sounds fantastic! I've also used it with Bull Dog combo amp, which also sounds amazing. Even my little 4 watt no name practice amp really comes to life with this thing.

Make no mistake about it the Blood Drive pedal is no toy. It???s the real deal with all analog circuitry and true bypass switching this pedal extends insane modern distortion tones and a super transparent circuit either on or off. I???ve been playing guitar for over twenty years now and I am very happy with Coffin???s Blood Drive. My neighbors on the other hand??? I???m certain that this pedal will go down as a classic with its kick ass tones, construction and coffin shape. No doubt this pedal rivals more expensive boutiques yet costs a lot less even though it's made in the USA.

Reliability : No Opinion
I haven???t owned this pedal long enough to say whether or not it???s reliable, but looking at the construction I can tell you it???s the shit. The housing is a really light weight metal (perhaps magnesium), the on/off switch is classic MXR style ruggedness, looks like you could drive a car over it to turn it off and on and it would hold up fine. The control pots offer a nice smooth resistance when dialing in your sound and really gives it a pro feel, not to mention the glow in the dark lines on the knobs so you can see your settings on a dark stage. What a genius idea that was. The bottom of the pedal is a rubber base that covers around 75 percent of the bottom with an inlayed spider web that sticks to the floor quite well. Much better than the 4 rubber feet you usually see accompanying guitar pedals. Would I gig without a back up? I'd drag this thing with a piece of rope behind my car to my next gig without a backup with no worries. I'm not kidding. Granted the plastic knobs would be gone if I did that. : )

You have the option of using a 9-volt battery as you would expect or way better yet you can plug in a classic 9-volt adapter to the front. The battery holder on the bottom let???s you easily replace the 9-volt battery. One thing I noticed when testing my unit with battery power was that when you put the plastic hatch back in place you have to give it a decent push to lock the hatch down. I thought mine was defective at first because the hatch wouldn???t seat itself until I pushed a little harder. Also a nice thing I noticed on the box was that this pedal conforms to the new lead free standard of circuit boards.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 10
Overall, it doesn't get much better than this for modern sounds. I'm certain you won't be dispointed either.
