There is one knob to adjust the speed???how could it get any easier with only one knob?

Sound Quality : 9
This pedal was given to me by a friend???he wasn???t using it and did not seem to have any interest in it???it looked old and scratched up and I had never used DOD effects before but I decided to give it a try and HOLY COW was I ever pleasantly surprised! This is a great little pedal! ???it has a subtle yet very nice wet swirling sound???the type of sound that I was looking for in a phasor???I love the Hendrix/Trower ??? ish sounds that I am getting from it when I set the rate at about 1/3 and use the neck pickup on my strat???similar to the Hendrix sound on the opening of Machine Gun???beautiful. It also works well for nice wet clean phasor sounds like on Breathe from Pink Floyd. It is not the wild overpowering sound that you get from something like an MXR EVH type phasor???.but that is not really what I like anyhow???if that???s what you are looking for then you should probably look elsewhere. If you are looking for a nice phasor that will give you some great Hendrix/Trower/Gilmour sounds then I think you will do well with this unit???especially since you can find these used for a good price. The only down side I have noticed is that it seems like there is some signal loss and I seem to lose a little bit of volume from my signal when I switch it on, but it is only really noticeable when playing loud with gain. This seems to happen regardless of where I place it in my effects chain. It seems to work best after my Wah but before my distortion pedals. My signal goes like this: Strat>Wah>DOD 201>Keeley DS-1>Carvin Legacy with chorus and delay in the effects loop of the Carvin. I tried this pedal in the effects loop but the results were not as favourable as when I placed it after the Wah and before distortion. I also wish it had a level/intensity knob.

Reliability : 10
Mine must be at least 20 years old and it still works fine so I have to give it a 10 here.

Never had to deal with them so can???t say.

Overall, I think this is a very nice sounding pedal. Great sounds, great fun to play with, easy to use, reliable and great value considering what you can pick these up for so I???ll give it a 9. I was thinking about trying the Voodoo Labs MicroVibe but that retails for over $150 at my local music store so I think I will stick with this little yellow box since I am having so much fun with it. Check it out for yourself ??? if you can find one ??? you won???t be disappointed.

All you get is "speed" on this pedal...dude!

Sound Quality : 7
You know, I bought this pedal brand new for $35 bucks on some sort of clearance sale at Motor City Guitars. Suffice it to say I wasn't very concerned with sound quality. But damn I was and still am pleased as punch with this niftly little blue aluminum box. It's about the same size as a Phase 90 but this where the comparison should end. The Phasor/201 is way more subtle than a Phase 90. At slower speeds the envelope is really mellow and great for chords or arpeggios. At faster speeds you can get a pleasant and useful fake leslie effect. The downside is this box will definitely muddy your tone so compensation may be necessary on your guitars tone control or on your amp. No big deal really. Of course Phase pedals are all about tonal color so you probably understand what I'm saying.

Reliability : 7
Pretty damn tough. Circuit board is not firmly affixed internally. But I think as long as you don't play baseball or hockey with it, it'll be fine. This pedal will suck the life out of a battery quickly. Make sure you pull the cable from the input jack when not in use. Using an adapter may be a smart plan of attack but I've noticed it sounds way better with a battery.

Customer Support : 10
I've dealt with Digitech before with a different item. They were very much a class act.

Overall Rating : 8
One anecdote I can share about this pedal is one time I needed an electric real bad to record some guitar tracks for this project I was working on. A friend of mine let me borrow his Strat for a couple of days to record my tracks. The thing is I hate hate hate Strat's more than anything, but beggars can't be choosers. The Phasor/201 colored the sound enough to mask that horrible nasaly Strat sound. Tracks turned out better than I ever imagined. If you find one cheap, check it out.

One knob ! Couldnt be any easier to use :-)

Sound Quality : 7
Very good. Watery, creamy phasing effect - a lot like the Uni Vibe Box preferred by Hendrix and Trower, but of course not that versatile due to its simplicity.
I mostly use one or two positions of the speed knob (1 to 3 o` clock) and it can be used all the time during a song, both for rhythm and lead play.
As long as the effect is actually switched on, everything is fine, but there is obviously no real bypass. Switched off, it seems to function like an antenna for longwave radio broadcasts which frequently get audible through it (especially if it is placed in front of a distortion box). It also produces peculiar clicking sounds of the same speed pattern of the phasing all the time which disturb clean playing. It seems it cannot be "totally" switched off and it causes significant quality loss in treble and presence.
During performances is often removed it temporarily from the effect chain due to these problems.
But anyway, the phasing effect itself sound so pleasant ...

Rock solid. This ugly, yellow tank couldn't even be damaged if kicked by an elephant. It`s rather heavy, compared to its small size.
Mine must be old (early Seventies maybe) and some parts in it produce some undesired noises. I think it may get unreliable with time, but it cannot be harmed by external forces.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Don`t have any idea if DOD still exists and supports these old gadget boxes. I hope it will stay healthy for some more years.

Overall Rating : 9
It`s a real "One-Trick-Pony" and ist simply produces what it`s supposed to produce: Wonderful 70ies-style-phasing for electric guitar.
I play Hendrix in a cover band and I would really miss it if it failed.
A knob to control the depth would be handy, but with a two-filter-phaser one is likely to use the maximum depth all the time - like I do.

I've owned this thing since around 1980...sat in a box for the last 20 years...I got it out and olugged it in for fun...I was pleasantly surprised at how cool this sounded..I could get a great uni-vibe sound going by setting the knob at around 1:00..Robin Trower Bridge of Sighs tone right there! There is some signal loss, but I can run the thing through an effect loop. I don't remember what I paid for it back then..don't remember much from then anyways...I would recommend this pedal to anyone if they can find it..

One knob. I don't need no stinkin' manual!

Sound Quality : 10
I use this with my Stevocaster Super Custom Deluxe (bridge humbucker, neck single coil)>EB Volume>Budda Bud-Wah>Tubescreamer>Ross Compressor>DOD 201>Morley Diamond Distortion>Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb RI. It sounds excellent turned on with an combination of my effects. It'll do everything from a slow clean phase to sounds similar to the vibrato effect on my amp. It even works well with my wah pedal. I can get some pretty sweet tones out of it with the TS turned on behind it, and then wah behind that. Without an intensity control, I can't really do anything extremely wild with it, but it is absolutely PERFECT for that slightly to moderately phased sound that makes chords sound so soft and smooth. I haven't placed it behind a high-gain overdrive yet, but I haven't noticed any noise from it at all.

Reliability : 9
It seems to have lasted long enough. This pedal is the gray one, I think they made it in the '70's. When I got it, the nut had fallen off of the power supply jack, so I had to open it up and push it through the opening and epoxy it on (didn't have a nut on hand that fit). Also, the sound didn't seem to be right when I first tried it, so I had to adjust the trim pot. I don't know how it got out of whack, maybe some component values shifted since it was set at the factory, but with a little bit of tweaking while leaving the effect on I found the ideal setting very easily. This isn't something that is going to change while being used though...

Never dealt with them...

I play in an indie-rock with some blues mixed in. Sounds similar to... a mix between The Smiths, The Flaming Lips, with some heavy blues mixed in somehow. A phaser was the last effect I needed to be able to stop using my rack effects, and once I heard the DOD 201 I was hooked. Sure, its not as versatile as a rack box, but its a helluva lot cheaper, easier to carry around, and can actually be fixed if anything goes wrong with it. Since it sounds so amazing, the versatility is not an issue for me. If I want more sounds I'll get more pedals; this thing wont get replaced. If you're looking for a simple phaser, don't pass up an opportunity to try one of these. Keep in mind that rack effects boxes invariable have phasers (usually lots of them), so if you don't just want one flavor, you may want to look into rack effects or a more advanced stomp box instead. You may have to look hard to find something that sounds like this though!

like before, one knob (just like me..if I had two, would I have time to write this review?)

Sound Quality : 10
This is the original late 70's version, not the reissue. Grey and Green and slightly rusted. It is apparently a twostager..how complex can it be? I just wanted to chime in, too. When I found it in a junk shop, it hadnt been used for about 15 years, apparently. The sound was too weak, but it did come out, so I tweaked that pot like my friend before. It worked. I have four vintage phasers (70's SS, Ph1r, Guyatone Phase Sonix, and now this DOD), they each have different characteristics. The DOD is a keeper. Slow, very soft and prisitine. Right, doesn't distort. Fast is a nice univibish warble (I have a univibe, it IS similiar). I a/b/c/d'ed them all, they each have a different so8und and one cant imitate the other. But, I really think the DOD is better than the MXR. It is clean, smooth, and at fast speed, has a tremelo like warble. I havent turned it off since I got it...

One knob... somebody help me, PLEASE!!!! Which way do I turn it???

Sound Quality : 9
Why anyone would buy one of those MXR peices of poo over this, I do not know!!! Sweet, smooth, watery, dreamy phase tones. Does not distort like the MXR does. The MXR distorts if you even THINK about playing a note. Not this one. Doesn't sound as good as my giant vintage Maestro phaser (THE best phase tone out there!!!), but this one is MORE than adequate.

Are you kidding??? THIS thing is the tank that BOSS wishes it was.

Speed knob, footswitch can't get easier. The thing oozes great sound at any setting.

Incredible sound. A lot like an old univibe swirl. MUCh better than the ol MXR Phase 45 I had, which I sold when I got this. The sounds is rich and lush and adds a beautiful texture to my Strat either with or without distortion. Use it all the time, my most favorite box.

I have had the old MXR Phase 45 and 90 and I sold both. The DOD 210 is SO much better than the Phase 45 by leaps and bounds. Looking for a 401 to replace the Phase 90 as well. A great box with a great sound.

This box has one knob (rate) and a stomp switch (on/off). That's it.

Sound Quality : 9
I play a 1970 SG Special and a hollowbody Vox Teardrop with a no-name humbucker through a Peavey Encore 65 amp. The 201 sounds great on both guitars- very full and lush. It responds well to the bassy sound of the Vox. None of the low end gets lost. The effect is very smooth and musical. The rate goes from imperceptably slow to very fast. (If the knob is below 12:00, you might not notice the cycle.) It's very quiet, much better than the ROSS phaser I used to have. My only complaint is that the intensity isn't adjustable. This isn't really a problem, because I love the way it sounds. But sometimes I'd just like to get a wilder sound out of it. If not for this, it would rate a 10.

Reliability : 7
Here's where it gets strange. I bought the 201 at a pawn shop, without trying it out (they didn't have an amp). When I got it home it didn't work- the signal passed through, but there was no noticable effect. When I opened it, I noticed a trim pot on the circuit board. I adjusted it a few turns and badda-bing, it sounded great. I don't know how it got out of whack, but it was easily fixed. And I've used it for over a year (without a backup) without a problem. It's built like a tank (actually it's built just like an old MXR effect).

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't had to deal with them.

Overall Rating : 9
I play instrumental rock that has elements of blues, jazz, surf, and funk. The 201 works well in a variety of styles. It's especially good for jazzier stuff and funky rhythm parts. If you put an overdrive in front of it (I use a Dano Daddy-O) you can get a great 70's hard rock sound. It sounds especially thick with a little delay added. The only effect it doesn't work with is my Crybaby wah. The 2 pedals just sound like mud together.

this is as easy as it will ever get. you get one switch, and on knob (speed) this pedal does not have a led light to tell you if it's on or not. i gave it an 8 because of this. apparently this pedal is not produced anymore, but was first made back in the 70's and reissued a few years ago, or so i've been told.

Sound Quality : 10
i'm using a yamaha strat-style guitar followed by hendrix wah, danelectro fab-tone, vox valve-tone, the phasor, and into a fender princeton 112 plus. this pedal sounds great. it's a subtle phasor so it doesn't really 'woosh' but instead wobbles really nicely. the speed control takes it from a really slow, almost non-evident phasing to a fast tremelo pulse. it is a good effect to use in the background to give a little life to clean tones.

Reliability : 8
this pedal is housed in a solid steel box. i think it would take a really big person with a really really big foot to break it. the only problem i have with it is that the switch tends to be a little bit stiff to engage, so you have to give it a decent push to get it going. i wouldn't buy a backup because buying the same pedal twice is stupid.

Customer Support : 10
i emailed dod the day after i got it to find out about when it was made and stuff. i received a reply with the information by the next morning.

Overall Rating : 10
i play whatever i feel like playing which can include punk, grunge, rock, mainstream alternative.......... if it were stolen i would want to buy it again but probably couldn't as i've never seen it in another shop before (aside, obviously, from the one i bought). i compared this against an ibanez soundtank phaser, which in comparison was rubbish to this dod. i must admit that i was sceptical from the start about any dod product, as i own a dod tec4 multi effects, which i really don't like (emphasizing 'really'), but once i heard this pedal, i knew it was what i was looking for. i wish though that it had a depth control, or an effect level control, which would make it a whole lot more versatile. so, buy one if you can find one.
