Has a threshold knob and an on/off footswitch so learning how to use it is painless. The grey ones have an LED to indicate if it is on or off. The rarer black ones do not have the LED so you can't tell if it is on or off just by looking at it.

Transparent and quiet. Best I ever had.

No plastic here. Like all those DOD pedals from the 70's, this thing is built like a tank. I wouldn't be surprised if you could drop it off a 10 story building and then use it in a gig.

I play everything and this thing fits the bill... especially when using those noisey distortion pedals for late 80's metal.

one knob "threshold". Turn it clockwise to lower the threshold of the gate. One on/off footswtch. You get the picture. It's not rocket science.

The early grey DOD 230 is a great sounding pedal becouse it does not color the sound passing through it whatsoever. That's what I want in a gate. You wouldn't even know this pedal was in your signal path except for the release time. It is a little slow for my taste, but may be adjustable inside. I haven't checked that out yet.

I really like the original 70's DOD pedals and this is no exception. This is the only gate I own & the only one I will ever need. It also has a LO-Z output so you can go directly to a pro console. Glad I got this one.
