This thing sounds thick. Very very thick. I use it on bass, and the fatness of the phase is very satisfying. I own a few other phasers (Ibanez Phase II, Roland Jet Phaser, Ross Phaser, Maestro Phase Shifter) and this is the best on bass. It does cut a little level and bass, but the frequency range in which it operates is very bass friendly. Don't turn up the resonance and speed too high though - it gets far too "gloopy". Better for big slow phases.

These old boxes are tanks. Mine was covered in crud when I got it - I cleaned the switch and pots, and it's great. I have to install a proper bypass switch though.

I used to own a Mu-Tron Phasor II. I was broke so I sold it about 5 years ago. That's the only phaser I've heard that sounds better on bass than this one. God bless Dod for producing such crap recently, because to be able to buy one of these for $80 was theft. Big juicy phases. Yummo!

It can get heavy but always stays smooth. It can sound like Stevie and Bernie Worrel. No noise and when you crank both knobs to full you get a psycho underwater swirly tremelo. I run this thing through my Hammond M3 along with a holy grail reverb, mooger fooger and a fuzz-allthrouhg my Leslie.

I play all kinds of music and this thing fits it all. I also play a Juno-106, Farfisa, KORG MS2000, Casio SK-5, Harmonium and Accordion. I'm an old analog gear junkie and this thing fits right in with that category. Only thing is it doesn't have a light to let you know when it's on or off but you can just listen and know anyhow.

The 490 is the missing link in DOD's early phasor line. All previous models (201,210,401) had a single knob (speed). The 490 breaks that tradition with a second knob labeled regen. This control is known as "depth" on most other phase shifters. Still a piece of cake to operate.

Much like the 401 which preceeded it, this is a beautifully voiced phasor, one of my all-time favorites. Lush and warm at it's lowest settings, like soft waves on distant shores (no kidding). Rev it up and it gets funky, but even at extreme settings it always goes down smooth and easy, never harsh like some other phasers out there with three letters in their name.
I like to park it between a TS-808 and a Maxon AD-900 Analog Delay, then into a 70's Marshall half stack (no master volume). Really butters mt toast. But this setup with any good tube amp would be KILLER. Digital devotees may disagree with me, but I know what I like.

Bulletproof. Must be 20 years old and still kickin'. Built back when DOD was a force to be reckoned with, not like today's DOD effects. The grand days have sadly passed.

Never needed it. Hopefully won't in the future.

I play mostly experimetal stuff. I like to use my effects almost as instruments. This thing just fits the sound I currently have in my head. If it were lost or stolen I would go back to my 201. If you find either, buy them. These puppies are an endangered species.
