I bought this from ebay, it does NOT work and you CANNOT get parts for it.
(go ahead & contact DOD, they will tell you you CANNOT GET THE PARTS FOR IT ANYMORE)

From Memory (which is ALL I have as I have bought a vintage PAPERWEIGHT....... )
the delays were too short & the unit was NOISY as hell.
Not to mention it would completely CUT OUT when I needed it to work.

See above description....
MY old unit (the one that WORKED 20 some years ago) you had to KICK to get it to work.
Which is why I SOLD IT.

DOD is Great, they TRIED to TALK ME OUT OF IT.....
I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED.
They do NOT make the parts to fix this old echo. Nuff said.
It is NOT their fault, so I give this rating a 10.

I bought a USED DOD 680 analog delay, like many I got caught up in the analog frenzy....
There ARE BETTER UNITS out there, they are CHEAPER and NEWER and you CAN FIX THEM. This one you cannot....
Go ahead, ASK the company.... www.dod.com Mine will hold PAPERS in place on my desk, that will be ALL it is capable of doing until DOD decides to Reissue these which will be when Hell freezes over.
(again, email DOD... I am NOT making this up)
This is a 30+ year old effect, parts are worn out & you CANNOT GET PARTS FOR IT.
Back in the day it was an OK effect, NOW it is simply a LEARNING EXPERIENCE that cost me $70.
Add THAT to the price of the Newer one I will have to buy.

four nobs and a footswitch. first 2 control the signal out puts, one for PA and one for a rig so you can have two delay times at the simultanously. the other two nobs are repeat and delay time. its real easy to get used to since there's really nothing to get used to. its just a very simple, yet practicle device.

as a delay pedal goes it could be better, but if you have it set just right it can sound robotic and you can control some wierd feedback if the repeat is turned up high and you can change the ptich of the feedback by tweaking the time nob back and forth. so if you are into the stuff that Sonic Youth and Fugazi do with thier guitars than this pedal is for you. I use this pedal my Fender Geddy Lee Jazz Bass running through an SWR Workingman's 4004 head and 4x10 cab. it also sound cool with distortion, octave, and envelope. Flatwound strings add a nice touch.

this is a one-of-a-kind device. i don't use it as a delay because the wierd noises and cybernetic tones are too unique not to enjoy. it's hard as arock too. its has its own power chord so you don't have to worry about batteries and what not.

i'm never selling this pedal. it's one of the most unique pedals i've used in the sense that it's not very typical. a rare find too. as a bassist i recomend this pedl to bassists. works well with guitar too, but the depth and tone of the DOD 680 Analog Delay would be better appreciated by more bassists than guitarists i think. great for experimental music. opens many doors for creativity too.

I have too much gear to list as far as setup and I'm always goofing around with different configs, but its used with a variety of amps and guitars and other effects. This pedal is my particular holy grail of analog delay pedals. I own 8 analog delays, some digital delays, a tape echo (Echoplex) and have used quite a few other units besides what I own myself. I like all my analog delays for their own charms, kinda how you like all 8 of your children, but this one has a special character that I can't even quite put my finger on (the sound in your head? Maybe thats the way to state it). No it is not true that all analog delays are basically the same! It just sounds so beautiful the way it works with whatever config I'm using at the time. The best I've found so far for analog delay for what I'm looking for. I love running it to 2 amps!
Anyways, I have to take exception to the previous review. Not because he isn't entitled to his own opinion or isnt a good guitar player, but I really don't think the reviewer knows enough about analog delay to really provide a real review. You can't objectively review a Les Paul and complain that its not a Strat, you can't review a Country song and complain its not metal, etc...That review screams "I am a digital delay guy, not analog delay". Yeah the delay time is short, welcome to the world of analog delay. Yeah, it isn't clean sounding and provide clear repeats...again, welcome to the world of analog delay. Those of us who love analog delay pretty much love it for those reasons. Digital delay has its place, but its more of an 'effect' on the original signal...analog delay simulates natural echo better. Go yell into a canyon and tell me that each repeat sounded as precise as what you originally yelled; it degrades, loses high end, gets muddier, etc. And I don't know about the Grand Canyon, but otherwise a 1 second echo isn't too natural sounding either. Definitely there are some differences in analog delay models worth exploring, but the previous review doesn't really do this, he just seems to rip it for not being a digital delay like his DD-3. One last thing, ALL of my analog delay pedals sound way better at higher volumes; its like the sound has been opened up. I am no expert on that Harmony 5 watt amp but FYI you may want to give pedals like these a whirl on your real rig...BIG difference.
The 10 rating is for sound quality 'character'. Its supposed to be more lo-fi than a digital delay.

Bought this used on Ebay for $200. I just recieved it and I can already tell I don't like it.
This unit has 4 knobs, 3 jacks and 2 switches. The knobs are for the most part easy to understand. The delay time knob is backwards from most others (turned all the way left is longest time) but otherwise it's very ituitive.
The switches are effect on/off and power on/off. Since this pedal is AC powered, it has a power switch. It's a little wierd at first.
The jacks are, input, local out, and remote out. It is not stereo output, but dual output. Each output has it's own mix options. You can set one output to be all delay, and the other to be no delay. Or, just some mix in between. Lot's of potential here. Two amps with slapback on one output? :) If you like slapback that is.
My complaints with this is it seems hard to get a long repeat without it feeding back too much and oscillating. The pitch of the note affects the repeats. Beyond that, they function well.
BTW, I don't give 8s, 9s and 10s unless excellent.

I've got a Harmony H-400 practice amp that I use to audition stuff out on. I use this amp because it only has a volume knob. It's easy to determine how the sound changes. I tested it with an Squire Affinity Strat. I understand that no delay pedal will make me sound like U2 with this setup, but it gives me a reference point to test it.
Comparing it to my Boss DD-3, I find this pedal muddy. I tried delay times from it's shortest time to it's longest time. I adjusted the repeat and mix knobs. Nothing I did cleaned it up. I got close though by turning up the repeat to little over half and turning down the mix to about 1/4. It still didn't have the clean sound of my DD-3.
My main setup is a Les Paul Copy (by Penco), Mexican Telecaster or the above mentioned guitar into the following effects in order. Vox Wah, Custom tube distortion, a Fender Stand-alone Spring Reverb clone, the DD-3, then finally into a Fender Princeton Clone with a 2x12 with 1959 P12N Jensen speakers. My setup, espcially with the spring reverb, is quite warm already, but still clear. I was hoping this would warm up my delay, but it was too warm and would be muddy. It won't be replacing my DD-3.
My other big complaint is the delay time is too short. I need the delay knob to "go to 11"! Just a little more and I'd be happy. I'm sure it would be good for someone looking for that sound, but it wasn't what I thought it was.
For the record, I hate slapback echo, and supposedly this pedal is the stuff for slapback echo. Keeping that in mind, I'll add one point to what I would have rated it.
Lastly, when you turn the mix clockwise, the original signal looses high frequency. Similar to when you turn down your guitar volume.

It was built in 1981. The power cord was replaced because at some time in the past, a previous owner moved the cord to come out the side. The guy I bought it from put a new cord on it and put it back.
Other than that, what could go wrong? No battery to die! The pots are about the only thing that worry me. Eventually, all pots wear out. Opening the back showed that these were not easily replaceable. Either way, my pedal has no issues. It's build very solidly.

I play in a church worship band and this pedal just doesn't cut it. What it excells at, I never use. Not a good match. I'm not really sure what style would be best suited for this pedal. A lot of the new music using delay uses longer, cleaner delay then this pedal is capible of. Be for warned, U2, this pedal is not!
If it was stolen, I'd file some sort of report, cause I'd at least what my 200 back. I'd put it towards an eq pedal or something. Maybe a DD-6, DD-20 or the analog delay that Ibanez makes.
I suppose I can't be too hard on it considering it's age. It's a nice pedal for what it does. It just has a small range of useful sounds.
O, BTW. Some have mentioned a trim pot inside the bottom. I found it and adjusted it. Be careful, cause some settings will kill the long delay times completely.

Standard analog delay features: repeat, delay time and mix controls.
This unit has 2 outputs, each having its own mix control.
AC powered, heavy duty casing, built in the USA in 1980, directly from the golden age of stompboxes building.

I was looking for an analog delay to complement my Boss DD-3, so i could have 2 delay sounds and settings.
I found this and a Boss DM-3, so i auditioned them both for the same job. The DM-3 sounded great but was a bit similar (shorter delay times of course...) than my DD-3, only a bit fatter sounding.
The DOD-680 was a completely different beast. It found a permanent spot on my board for those 4 reasons :
- Sound : the echoes sounds very fat and unique, almost like an old analog synth sound, very easy on the ear.
- 2 independant outputs : each with it's own mix control, so i can send a drier signal to an amp, and a wetter signal to another.
- The effect does not turn off completely : this can and will be a downer for some folks, and i don't even know if it is normal or if my unit is defect, but for me it's a bonus : you can hear a faint hint of the echoes even when the effect in off. It sounds so good and subtle that i don't use the spring reverb of my amp anymore.
- Louder echoes : If i dial a lot of wetness (around halfway of the mix knob), it comes to a point where the echoes are louder than the original note. Used with the longer delay time (i guess around 300 ms max) it is perfect for stoner music, think Meddle-era Pink-Floyd or Tangerine Drean soundscapes...
So the DOD won over the Boss DM-3 for me. The DM-3 is great, but i found the DOD to have more character. Somehow, it added something to my sound that i absolutely love. It does color the sound of the echoes, but it's exactly what i like about it.

This is a great sounding analog delay pedal that can be a bit tricky to work with initially. When I hooked mine up i was getting a lot of distortion on the delayed repeats. I opened the thing up and found a trimpot inside and tweaked it a little, was able to clean up the repeats but still have that warm analog sound. When I did this, however, it bumped the self-oscillation point of the repeat knob down to about 3 o'clock (or roughly 2/3 of the way up or so) and anything after that is just chaos... the self-oscillation on this thing was delicate even before I tweaked the trimpot. you really have to be careful with the repeat knob and the mix levels or it will just be overpoweringly loud. I might try messing with the trimpot more to see what other sound options are available. Also the delay time knob is reverse of normal which is confusing for about .05 seconds.

I am using this with a gibson es-347 (335 style hollowbody) and a '68 twin reverb and it sounds great. It still colors the repeats a bit but not the full-on distortion it had when I first got it. I really suggest fiddling with the trimpot inside to tweak it exactly to your liking. You can really get some cool sounds by turning the delay time knob while it's self-oscillating (i.e. feeding back indefinitely), using the delay itself as an oscillator, like in an analog synth, sort of, and kind of tweaking the pitch with the delay time knob... you can actually "play" the pedal. Useful about 1% of the time, but at least it's a possibility. You can do this on most delays that will self-oscillate. No true bypass... and delay times are short. But as long as you know what this pedal is for, then it sounds great. One of the best analog delays i've heard actually... lots of character.

very very sturdy. Opened it up and the circuit board and components are all laid out very well and look to be of high quality, except maybe the trimpot which is the plastic type instead of the standard screw-type. No big deal. Built in 1981 and mine is still in great condition.

This thing will add a lot of character to your sound. Most people don't really know about these old DOD pedals yet. They are so good and so high quality... It might as well be considered a different company from the new DOD stuff. Totally night and day in terms of quality of construction and sound. I predict that one day someone with a degree of prominence will start using them and then they'll be worth a mint just like tons of other old pedals but until then they're still a pretty good value.

Warm analog delay, very nice. No contest against the sterile Boss digital delay (sold it). I also have an original 70's EH Deluxe Memory Man w/5 knobs and modulation which is my main delay. The Deluxe MM is noisier and only comes with a two prong (no ground) cord, but has 550ms of delay time. The DOD 680 has about 330ms of delay time. Same as the Maxon AD80, the standard 3-knob EH Memory Man, and the Ibanez analog I used to have that broke. 330ms can seem a bit short for some lead stuff I do, but if that's all you need the sound is great. For slapback and doubling effects it works really well. I think thickening-up the guitar and rockabilly are this pedals forte'. I nicked a point for no-true-bypass and and could take another point for short delay time, but that's not this pedals mission so it didn't seem fair.

This is my back-up pedal. Built rock solid with standard stomp switch. JC4558 op-amp chips throughout. Die cast housing built in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1981. Too bad DOD didn't stay with this type of production instead of selling out to overseas production.

They long since laid-off any employees that worked on this pedal in 1981. Seems easy enough to work on and fix, no epoxy covering up the chip IDs so it could be fixed by anyone with minimal knowledge of stompboxes.

Good pedal still undervalued, probably because it's DOD and people don't realize this is as good as MXR in the early 80's or any other pedal from that era. Certainly better construction than Electro-Harmonix at that time. Sounds are vintage analog delay with the second output and second control knob being a little different than other delays. I would recommend this pedal as a great value for anyone looking for short (330ms) analog delay to make their sound bigger or add a little echo, but doesn't want to fork out big dollars for overpriced boutique or vintage pedals.

Little hum when engaged, not bad for an old pedal. It sounds really good. Delay times are shorter then digital but warmer. Almost has a farty distortion added to the delay that I like. The coolest thing about this pedal is that it feedsback on its own signal and you can tweek this in real time. Unlike digital delay that gives you a very choppy clipping sound when you tweek things, this sounds spacey. I play space rock and this thing rules. I give it a 10 because I'm so impressed that DOD actualy made something I like. This is from there first line of effects and after that they went all wrong. It's more like an MXR or a Electro Harmonics pedal than a DOD. I would not buy any of the current or modern stye DOD effects because I hate there stomp (tap) switches, they suck. This thing not only sounds incredible but it's built like a tank and you can really stomp on the footswitch. These are rare if you run across one you may want to get it just for the fact that it will be worth a lot of money one day.
