The instructions that come with the pedal are very brief, but contain a lot of important info for figuring out how to make it work. A few more pages of tutorial information would be useful, but I found the amount of information typical of most effect pedals. There's a moderate learning curve to finding all the features, how to modify the various effects that are built-in, and exploring the presets. Fortunately almost everything is accessed by pressing a labeled button and using the up/down buttons to change a value. The presets themselves are really useful for reviewing the settings DOD chose to ship with the product and learning how they shape the sound. Once you've found settings you like and learn how to store them, they're very easy to recall in a live performance setting.

I have a couple of Ovation guitars and a Oscar Schmidt hollow body electric that I amplify with a small 15W acoustic guitar amp. I use the notch filter on the Acoustec to help reduce feedback from the body cavity resonance and it works pretty well. Along with a little noise gate, it keeps my sound clean and less like its amplified.

One of my Ovations is old enough that it has the preamp without built-in tone controls. So even if I bypass the effects on the pedal, I use the EQ feature to round out the tone a bit. The delay effect is good quality and the modulation effects (Chorus, Flange, Phaser, Tremolo, Pitch Shifter, Detune) all do as you'd expect thought they have limited range of adjustment. The Reverb effect sounds very "canned" compared to other products on the market.

I would like a bit more control over the individual effects. I use the chorus more than any of the others and the speed is varied in steps rather than continuous rate adjustment. It would be nice to have control over the effect level relative to direct guitar sound and store that with the setting.

I've customized about 6 settings that I've stored for use in performance and like them all. They only use a small portion of what the pedal is capable of doing, but they help shape the sound of my guitars and amp and manage to do it in a relatively small, portable package.

Reliability : 9
I've only had the pedal for a couple of days, but it's hasn't done anything that would concern me. One of the things that attracted me to this pedal is that I've never had a DOD pedal fail unless I totally abused it.

Overall Rating : 7
I purchased the pedal used and have found it to be a good value. It has more effects than I like to use on my acoustic guitars. The ones I typically use (some EQ, light chorus, delay) all work well and have reasonably good sound. If I ever need to replace it I might audition a couple of more expensive pedals to decide if there's a better overall sound for me in small, portable package.

It took no time to get used to the pre-set tones. Customizing took a little longer but was pretty straight forward. I loved the on board tuner especially if you go off line (quick and easy). The only downfall is the Bank and 3 peddle set-up. If you customize each bank of three, you can switch pretty quickly. But if you use the pre-sets, switching is a nightmare ie. select a bank (0-9 pushing the Bank peddle each time) then select one of the three settings. It could be ten pushes before you find what you are looking for (not practical during a song)

I play a 1973 Guild D-40 acoustic with a Fishman pickup and Model G preamp. I also have a 2003 Taylor 414CE with factory Fishman blend. Both sound great using chorus, flanger and 12 string. But as previously mentioned, some sounds are laughable like trebolos and detuned delays. But I found the 12 string sounded great in a large concert hall.

Reliability : 10
I bought it in 1996 and its going strong.

Never needed it.

I went to my usual music store, asked Doug, my usual salesperson, whom I consider a friend (performed with many times), "what would be the best bang for the buck?", and the DOD Acoustic 1 was his only response. I valued his opinion and never regretted it.
I highly recommend it.

Easy to use....not so easy to use to it's full capability. Main complaint is swtiching between the bank of preprogramed effects...vs...the customized one. You can only access one bank using the pedal switches...you've got to bend over and use the dial to get to the others. However for performance if you had only 3 custom sounds...you'd be fine.

I'm using an LR Baggs active pick-up which has a very nice and open sound on my road guitar which is a '93 or so cedar topped seagull. Overall the sound quality is average, some of the effects are quite passable, the chorus for example. Some of the effects are laughable...such as the 12 string or octave features.

Yes, I'll give this a 10 here. I bought it used 3 years ago and it still powers up and performs every time.

Never called the company, but you can still download the manual off the website...I say that's great considering it's been discontinued for a long time

I play folk and folk rock, and I've used this pedal through acoustic amps, direct to PA's, into my 4 track, and had similar and positive results for all. I've even run a vocal mic and harmonic mic through it for the use of the compression.... pretty versital little machine all in all.

1st factory preset out of the box was mighty close to what I was looking for..shimmery chorus with Adrian Legg-like eq setting. This made exploring the other settings that more interesting. Editing and tweaking are quite simple compared to most units and tha manual is rather simple to navigate.

I use a custom left-handed acoustic with a Fishman Matrix.Fishman being notoriously brassy, this unit had the ability to add some warmth to the overall tone. Coupled with my Trace Acoustic amp which is wonderful, allows for multiple tonal options.Effects do tend to be noisy when level gets pushed. The delay settings are very subtle but the delay options on TA amp make up for it.

No problems with construction or electronics as yet. Chassis feels like steel construction ,so I feel fairly confident.

NA as yet.

From fingerstyle to heavy strumming...Some settings tend to clip during heavy strumming but compression setting can be adjusted accordingly. Havn't noticed appreciable difference with notch filter as yet but again, TA amp covers that as well. This pedal was an impulse buy with zero prior knowledge of it's capabilities. While it has it's minor drawbacks, for the $$ I'd recommend it.

Quite difficult to ge a decent sound out of. (reason for 7 rating) Patch editing is simple Manual is adequate.

This is definetly not a high end device. The pre-amp is awfull. The reverbs are terrible. The modulated effects are the units best features, but not really that good.

I doubt I would buy it again. I wanted a small effect unit to use with my Trace Acoustic TR-50. I spent 4-5 hours tweaking and setting things up, was just about ready to send it back, and then bypassed the units pre-amp by going through the Trace Acoustic Effect Sends. This greatly improved the resulting sound, and I think I'll keep the unit. Don't know if I'll ever use it beyond practice though. I wish someone would come up with a good quality reasonably priced pedal for acoustic players. There has got to be a market there.

Real easy to use - Plug guitar in one jack, plug amp in another, connect juice and start playing. The manual is reasonably detailed, once I looked at it. One complaint that I have is that the foot switches only give you access to the user patches. This means that if you want to get to system patch 01, and you've programmed user patch 01, you have to bend down and turn the knob. Not devastating but irritating. Editing patches is the usual digital numeric menus.

Sound Quality : 8
Great for what I wanted which was 90% acoustic based. I have a full DOD pedal set, which is NOISY, and I have tried an ART ECC all-in-one, which was distortion heavy, so gave me feedback problems. I plan to back up this unit with a Boss BD-2 for extra bite when I need it. I use probably about 50% of the system patches which is good. Nice modulation effects, and reverb. The built in tuner is a little iffy at times

Reliability : 7
Electrically it has never let me down - had it a couple of months playing 1-2 times per week. It's plastic rather than steel, so I wouldn't put it on stage at a Metallica concert

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them

Overall Rating : 9
I'd definitely buy it again. I like the sound, it's real quiet, good options and very compact
