Super easy to figure out. I generally dive into using a new product without bothering to read the manual. This one I had up and running and cranking out cool-ass sounds instantly. Within a few minutes I was changing parameters and customizing patches.

I use it for both recording and live playing and I think it sounds incredible, especially for the price. I went through a phase not long ago where I ditched all my effects; then I bought this on a whim and am completely stoked. I am really really impressed with how nice it sounds for recording, even straight into the board.

I have had it for a couple of years now and if it failed me I'd be completely surprised. It is kind of lightweight but it has taken all the punishment I have to give (and I can dish it out!) and still works like new. All the switches still function as new.

I found the DOD Bass 30 very easy to use, but my grasp for understanding electronics is high. The manual helped great for the little things that were not obvious. Developing your own unique patch is easy as 123. Just toggle trhough the effects and modeling and you're there. Bada bing, bada boom. What I think needs improvenent is the phrase sampler.

I use this on a mainly fretless five string. Setting the gate high (like A7 or A8) with a little sounds quite psycodelic. Overall the flange, chorous, vib, delay, and reverb are nice but I wouldn't recomend the DOD Bass 30 for distortion. I use and recomend a seperate pedal for the other features. The bass synth is cool to make funny noises with but not good at all when it comes to striking chords. It for some reason or another sounds like it can't handle the sound. I really wish that the phrase sampler would work with delay. In between songs I like to loop a bass riff with some wierd sounds to keep the music flowing but if you like delay you just have to do without for this feature.

Its never let me down so far and I've had it for about almost five years. I've only played a couple of crowds and they weren't very big, even then I had a couple of backup pedals. Anything can happen and probobly will in time. You don't want to let down the crowd, they are the people that make you famous or make you nobody special. Being made of plastic souldn't be a problem. Thats what makes it inexpensive. As long as you don't jump as high as you can and stomp down on it like Kurt Cobain it should last indefinatly.

I bought this thing new about the time it first hit the shelves. They had a display model for half the price but one of the foot buttons was broken because everyone and their grandmas messed with it. I play kind of funky rock music for about 10 years and it works fine. If it were ever stolen I would need a new effects processor so I would brobobly buy a new DOD unless there was a better deal for the money I would spend. I like most everything about it, I wouldn't have bought it otherwise. Like I said I wish the phrase sampler would work with all of the effects. I picked it over a digitech because of price difference. I think they wanted like $280. They both had expression pedals. But if I wanted to get away really cheap I would have gone with the digitech without the wah pedal for about but I like the advantages that come with it. You can just go to town with this thing.

Pretty simple and straightforward. Very easy to edit. LED matrix makes it easy to see what you are editing and most effects only have a few parameters, so it's a snap to edit a preset to your taste. The manual is written well, plus there is the handy pocket card.

This is basically a toy, not a professional piece of equipment. (Anyone who bought this and expected it to sound great was kidding themselves. I know I knew better.) However, it is an easy-to-use, fun toy, and the sound is acceptable considering the price. It does generate a little bit of noise but I wouldn't call it terrible. It is by no means suitable for studio use unless you are going to run it through a bunch of other effects for the dirty, all-out, super-effected sound, but it is fine for just kicking around during a practice or at home. The effects in general are a little weak, and I found that things sounded a lot better if I split the signal from my bass and drove one channel clean and one through this; having the dry channel added a little bit of life back into the sound. I find the Bass Synth effects to be relatively useless but that may be my taste. The more basic stuff (reverb, delay, chorus, flange) are better and more useful but still a little thin. The "modeling" is something of a joke compared to more serious equipment out there these days--I would never use this for amp modeling in my home studio--but the different models do get you different overall sounds and distortions to choose from.

I've dropped it a couple of times and haven't had any trouble with it, but it is made entirely of plastic (except for the sheet metal bottom) so I wouldn't want to drop it too many more times. I would definitely not recommend going to a gig with this thing as your only effects source. I'm pretty sure things would crack if something even moderately heavy landed on it. I might take it as a back-up just in case something happened to my main effects unit(s), though.

I mostly do industrial, synth pop, and progressive rock. Using a handful of Rickenbackers now and a Taylor acoustic bass. With this piece, I'm usually just running it either through headphones or my Crate B80XL practice amp. This is a good unit for just grabbing on your way to an impromptu practice session since it weighs next to nothing-- I think the wall wart weighs more-- or a unit to have around the house if all of your main gear is in your bandmate's garage (or to have in his/her garage if all your stuff is at home). It's also a good unit for someone just starting out who is not yet ready to start sinking a lot of money into equipment and/or wants something thatis easy to use. It would also be an adequate back-up in case your main effects rig goes south in the middle of a gig. If you are wanting something that is going to sound even semi-professional, however, I would steer clear of this one. I don't regret buying it since I've had a lot of fun with it and couldn't have done much better at the time for the combination of price and features, but neither would I replace it if anything happened to it since I now have much better equipment. I still get it out once in a while if I'm just in the mood to play and don't want to power up my entire studio, or for playing in the bedroom with headphones.

I use this thing with a Carlos Robelli 4 string fretless, and an ESP LTD B-105, and play on a Gorilla practice amp. Overall the sound is fair. Nothing spectacular in my opinion. The amp models all sound pretty good for thier respective types of music, with the exception of the synth bass, which ive never found a good use for. The effects all do pretty much what they say they do. If you're looking for one particular effect, i recommend going for the individual pedal instead of this one. As I said the effects are nothing to get to excited about although i found a few of them to be very useful.

Well, I did have one minor problem with the tuner. For some reason it read everything as being one step higher than it really was for no reason. Im not sure what caused it because i never use the detune option, but it was easily remedied by resetting the thing. All in all its pretty reliable. As far as using it at a gig, i might stick to a more durable pedal. My friend played one of these for a while, and when he was playing he stepped down onto the pedal and the plastic basically shattered under his foot. Not so durable if you're a high energy player.

I play a lot of punk rock/ alternative music, although you'll hear me play a little of everything from time to time. I've been playing a little over 2 years now, and its the only effects pedal I've purchased so far. If it were stolen, I might replace it. Its a good utility tool because it can do just about anything. My favorite feature to the pedal is the modern amp model, because it has a great sound. I don't really have any hated parts of the pedal. Overall I'd say its average, and great for a beginner. I dont know other bassists for the most part so I dont have any other pedals to compare it to. Nothing in particular i wish it had, its just right if you're just a garage musician like me. It really does help play songs/write music because it gives you a wide range of sounds to work with. Well good luck, hope you find the pedal thats right for you.

It is impossible to get a good sound out of this unit. The controls are easy enough, and the features are pretty straight-forward, but the damn thing is so noisy, I can't stand to use it. Probably a good entry-level processor, but not really practical for the serious bassist...

Used it with various basses...Fender Jazz Fretless, Epiphone hollowbody, and my main Tobias 5-string....pumped it through an Ampeg B2 into a 15 and 410s. Noisy as hell....if you can listen through the noise, the sound quality on the pure signal seems fine. Most of the effects are unusable unless tweaked alot by the player...I enjoy the synth sounding pitch shift effect preset, but that's more a novelty set filler effect...noisy, noisy, NOISY!!!!

I play just about everything, and the band I'm currently with plays a breed of progressive/jam music that's hard to describe...hell, it's rock and roll, right? I've been playing for going on a decade, and this is probably the worst piece of gear I own. Honestly I prefer single effects, and I think I'm going to stick to that from now on. If it wasn't so noisy, I might use it, but as it is, I'm going to sell it to my singer who likes to think he can play bass...

This unit sounds OK out of the box. It has a lot of parameters, and you'll have to spend some time learning the interface if you want to get really good sounds out of it. I play synth and guitar, and this is the least complicated thing I own, and I still had to spend a little time learning what you could do with the effects and how much you could tweak them.

I just wanted a bass preamp for my project studio, something I could run my Jazz Bass into and have a solid basic sound, going into my mixer. I found this on sale, and it looked like a lot more options, cheap.
Out of the box, about 60% of the presets did something for me. I spent some time tweaking it, and frigging rocks! Others have griped about noise, but they must have problems elsewhere, 'cause mine is dead silent, even when I've got the Jazz by a monitor or speaker cab.

I play stuff from Korn to NIN to Tool and some older hard rock. It has models of Ampeg, Trace, and SWR amps, and they sound rock solid. Nothing can replace a large transducer moving lots of air, but the models sound very good and record well.
The bass synth is weird. I might screw around with it, but I don't see it replacing one of my synths. The fretless model is interesting, but it has a bad lag. The only one I can see using right now is the bowed upright, which sounds great on legato passages.
It's definitely not a rack-mount unit with 80 effects, 23 simultaneously available, digital I/O, etc. However, it does have some of the most popular and useful effects, and it sounds very good, especially when you find it on sale for $100. For this price, I'd have a hard time finding anything that came close.

It doesn't get much easier than this, unless maybe you've never used any effects processor before. As the display is just two numbers, you need to keep the manual handy to remember which number corrisponds with what is assigned to the expression pedal. Also to refer to how the parameters relate to the synth model etc. Actually come to think of it, when you press the button for the pedal assign, the light next to the thing it is assigned to flashes, so thats pretty simple. Overall, dirt simple to operate. Great features for a low priced unit. Like the ability to bi-amp and adjust the x-over frequency. Also the compressor has a hi pass filter that allows you to set a frequecy limit on the range of the compressor. For example, set it at 2K and everything above 2K will not be compressed.

I use a Spector NS2000Q bass, and play the bass 30 into the effects return of a 200w rackmount Marshall bass amp into a single 15 EV cabinet.
OK here's the deal. The amp models, EQ, and Effects sound great. You can get really fat, punchy tones from this unit. Very impressive. The fretless models are OK, although this is the only thing I've ever used with this feature so I have nothing to compare it to. The synth bass absolutely sucks. Don't buy this if you want a happening bass synth, because it ain't here. You can actually get a kind of cool synthy sound by using the auto wah and the enhancer, which adds a sub octave. Fuzz and distortion are OK I guess. I never use these. And who uses delay and reverb on a bass anyway? The bass 30 is a bit noisy, as others have stated. Although when you stop playing, the noise gate kicks in. Don't think I would want to record with this. The best way around the noise thing is to run this through a power amp or into the effects loop of your amp. However, if your power amp doesn't have a volume control, or if you don't have use of your amp's master volume when plugged into the effecs return, you might have a problem, 'cause there is no master volume on this thing. Dumb. If you plug it into the front end of your bass amp, use the low gain input, or keep the channel gain low, and keep the EQ flat. This helps keep the nois to a minimum, as this unit has plenty of gain on it's own and handles the EQ end of things from within the patches.

Been playing for 35 years. Pro and semi-pro. I play guitar too, and have a Digitech RP2000, which I love. I thought having a pedal/preamp with a built in tuner for bass would be pretty cool. For the money ($70 on Ebay) it's great. This is not a high end pro unit. It is what it is. If you are playing live, and don't need a great bass synth, this will suit you fine. If you need the pro features, like XLR outs, a master volume, digital output, and a great bass synth, you might want to look at some more expensive units. I will probably sell this and go down for the $400 for a Boss GT-6b. Not to say this isn't a great value, especially if you can pick up a used one. That makes it a fantastic value.

I am also using the EQ and noise gate, throw in the built in tuner, and I think I got my moneys worth. I run it through the effects loop on my bx-100 crate amp, and there is no noise at all. This thing takes about 5 minutes to figure out, I did it without a manual (Mine was didnt have one. Still cant figure out the Phrase Sampler, though I probally wont use it anyways. The challenge is coming up with a distortion that doesnt sound like fuzz and evil fuzz, but its posible. For the most part its very easy to use. Though figuring out what all the little sub-catagories were was fun. I dont give it higher is because of the fact that when you f*ck around with it, it doesnt tell you what every sound is, and it took me a while to come up with a distortion that wasnt too chaotic. I did download the manual off the site and it explains what the sounds are.

My set it is pretty simple, A yamaha BB N4II to the processor to the amp. I have some small peavy right now but I should be getting a new amp in a few months.
I dont care what anyone says. This is a very good multi-fx pedal. The whole thing is is that you really need to sit down with it and screw with it.
Distortions I can admit take a bit of time to tweek but once you do, You get some pretty cool ones. I got one that sounds alot like the distortion Flea uses in All Around The World. I allso get really cool synthy distrotions by tweaking it a bit. You really need to mess with the EQ on it, Model Gain and sometimes the second setting on Pitch Shift.
The Fretless Sim is cool. I use it sometimes. Most of the settings have a swell effect, or make it so you dont pick up practicly any fret noise when you slide.
Bass Synth is intresting to say the least. Tracking is pretty good, not great but hey, its a bass synth, they for the most part have crappy tracking. Good for intro's or weird parts. Not for everyone definatly. I love synth sounds, most people dont.
The amp models are good, I mess with them sometimes when I need a cleaner sound. They arent that spectacular but they help if you want to tweek a sound that doesnt used distrotion or Synth.
The Noise gate is fun to play with. I can mix that with fuzz and Detune to make whale sounds or weird screams you find in video games.
The FX are good for the most part, I dont use vibrato much, and I dont have any use for the envalope. I like the chorus and detune, I use detune alot(Which really only adds a weird fuller sound). I love the Flange and Phaser. I Mixed the phaser and delay for a weird space funk sound. The delays and reverbs are good and fun to mess with.
The expression pedal for the most part is like any expression pedal on a multi-fx board. It sucks. Its ok when I wanna screw around but most of the time its just eh. Get a wha. IT is good for a volume pedal though.

People say that truely hate it, and definatly, its not for everyone but its like any multi-fx processor. YOu have to sit with the thing and f*ck with it and spend the time to come up with sounds. And for only about 150-200 bucks, what did you expect? A bass pod?

I play progressive/heavy/new-wave stuff. Think Deep Purple/Devo/early Metallica. We have one guitar and keys. All the sounds I use are with an ear toward thickening up the sound, especially when the guitarist is soloing. It also allows me to cut through, on demand.
Hey, for $150 I got a lot of FX I would never buy, and it's opened up new ideas. I never really knew how much I needed a Phaser before.

You have to be an idiot to not understand how this thing works. My guitarist showed me quickly a crash course on how to set it up, and I was running in less than 5 minutes.

Of the effects that i do use, the sound quality is fairly high. Im really into industrial rock/metal, so i rely on the chorus and distortions alot, along with the amp models to get good tone. However, I am slightly disappointed with the fuzz and overdrive because they dont produce a good sharp punch unless i change all my eq around, which in turn screws with my clean sound, so i cant switch back and forth between clean and dist. during live stuff, only effect to effect.

theres no reason to be slamming around your stuff on stage anyway, at least ive never seen someone smash an effects processor. id take it with me definitely, it saves space and time as opposed to those individual stomp boxes.

this thing is great for industrial rock. you can get great techno sounds with it as well as some atmospheric/keyboard type effects. if you just want to have fun as a bass player, it can help to add a little punch to your lines, but its not a necessity. my main problems with the unit though concerns the distortions- (mentioned above) whose eq should automatically contour to the bass players initial settings, that way you can switch between clean and distortion and have them sound crisp-as well as the delay between effects. i noticed that unlike stomp boxes, the unit needs a fraction of a second to work through the circuit. this makes for a crappy transition between solos, etc. resulting in reduced tightness of sound. many effects could be eliminated (reducing price) or modified-bass synth and fretless-what the hell were you guys thinking when you put those on this machine?! they sound like ass and dont produce any type of listenable sound. envelope, amp model, fuzz, chorus and phaser kick though!

First of all out of the box it's expression pedal has to be calabarated, and if you dont read the manual you wont have a clue how to do it. The presets all suck, either too much of an effect or not enough, so you have to change them....this could take years if you wanted to change them all. Its seems that you have to press the save button everytime you want to change a small parameter. I give it a six because it isnt difficult it just takes alot of time.

I think it sounds horrible, the main reason is the effects just are way to harsh. The chourus is barely decent, but the distortion is soooooo WEAK!You shouldnt buy this for wah or pitch shift either, the pedal probaly moves an inch or so, and you dont get any range with that. It is very hissy, and I bought brand new cords with it. The flanger and phaser are the exact same thing. The fretless simulator is nothing more than a sweep of volume from quiet to no so quiet. The amp simulations sound nothing like the actual amps. The synthesizer has a "so-called" six differnt styles that just happen to soud all the same. The only reason this gets a two is because I think you could play some new innovative things with the delay and reverb.

I wouldnt depend on it if my life counted on it. The whole thing is plastic, how long could that last? If I ever gigged woth it, I would have to bring three or four just to reassure me that if the plastic broke I would have a few more to break.

Never dealt with DOD, I think their pedals are great, but this is a tragedy in the name of effects proccesors.

I bought this thinking, its 150 bucks what the hey, right? Pretty good price for and effects processor.Nope I was worng it just sucks bad! I play everything, Stu Hamm to Jaco Patorius, Flea to Cliff Burton, or Larry Grahm to Tommy Shannon. I have been playing about three months through a Crate BX 200 amp with a 4x10 cab. With a Fender Prescison bass. The reverb and dealy is cool but everything else sucks. If it got stolen I would find the theif and pay him 150 bucks for stealing it. My opinion is if you want the effects get the analog pedals they are the only way to go. If you buy this be prepared to be dissapointed, I was.

The settings are fairly easy to program; although it takes a while to calibrate and properly set the expression pedal. Most of the user pre-sets, in my opinion, really suck, so it makes for good practice for you to replace those with your own settings. The manual is also pretty thorough. However, I recommend starting with the Quick Refernce Card, look at the combinations available, play with the board, and THEN read the manual.

I am running this with a Fender Hot Rod P-Bass and two amps (a Carvin and an Ampeg). I have to bring the rating down a notch since the unit itself adds quite a bit of line noise - sure a gate can fix this, but you shouldn't have to compensate for its shortcomings. I also wish that it could produce more of an over-drive tone, but other than that, it's a pretty good unit.

So far, it has been pretty reliable. Right now I am using it to drive two amps and it has performed quite well. One thing that I don't like is that if the power is cut off, you will get nothing from your amps. At my last gig, I accidentally pulled the power cord which stopped the power to the Bass 30 (but not to my amps) and my amps went silent. At the very least, there should be a "pass-through" mode that let's me play even though there's no power to the board, just like with most other pedals.

I haven't had to deal with them yet. However, I still give them a 10 since DOD is nice enough to include a power cord with their board, something that A LOT of manufacturers do not do and I appreciate that extra touch.

I play in a band with diverse style so it helps to have a board that I can quickly punch in a certain tone. I also REALLY like the dual output - it let's me hook up two amps, which really improves my overall tone. I also like the fact that this board has just about any effect you could possibly want and its a very compact unit - it definitely beats the heck out of carrying a bunch of individual pedals around. In the very near future, I plan to upgrade to a rack system, but I will still hold on to my Bass 30 as my main effects processor.

I give it an 8 because editing patches takes a long time, but when you get it right, its worth it! Mostly setting the eqs, amp model, and modulator settings takes the longest to perfect. The manual is fine.

Until this unit came along, i was certain there were no bass multi-fx with good distortions and flanging. The overdrive is great. At first i had a problem with not getting enough gain, but then i discovered the "compressor gain" setting which allowed for MORE gain. The fuzz is ok but not my style. The chorus is thick and shimmering, i like it at high speeds. Flange, phase, vibrato, and pitch shift are cool.
When i first was messing w/ this unit i got a little pissed that it didn't have octave or envelope filtering, but this can be compensated for. The pitch shift has the "1d" setting which it pretty much just an octave effect, and the autowah has an enveloped sound to it.
Compressor is much better than my old zoom 506. The zoom didn't even let you set the ratio!! The Dod lets you set ratio, crossover(my favorite), threshold, and gain.
The unit its self has a little noise, but the noise gate fixes this.
The 3 types of delay and 3 types of reverb are all ok, but who uses reverb on bass? Phrase sampler is ok, but usless to me.
All 7 amp modes are ok, i just have no use for the synth one. Best fretless sim. to date!

Very easy to use. Editing is fairly simple after you edit one or two and get the hang of it.
The manual is pretty good. It will help you get started on setting up the patches

I am playing a P bass and a 5 sting Jazz thru a Ampeg SVT4.
I uses this pedal mainly for the chorus effect. I get a nice tone from my SVT so therefore, I deactivate any eq etc...setting on the pedal.
The chorus is very lush and it has ex parameters for all effects.
The synth sounds crappy but,I think all bass synths sound crappy so dont go by me.
I find the unit a bit noisy for my taste. It is good live but,I wouldnot record with it. It certainly blows the Zoom 505 out of the water when it comes to noise.

I play all typs of music. I freelance so I would not use this for a blues gig. It is good for a 3 piece rock band where you need a thick full choris to fill up the sound.
If it were stolen I would not replace it. By then they would have the new Bass30 super duper version(oh sure).
Compares to other models in this price range I would say it is the best. I tried Zoom and Korg. For 200 bucks not bad. Once again I would not record with it.
Any settings suggestions from fellow owners?

This box has 3 amp models, 2 types of distortion, fretless sim.,and
bass synth. I like the Classic model best for the type off music I
play. It has a very tube like sound. Editing is very easy, just press
the button under the group of FX you want to edit, the parameters you
can edit light up and you select them with a parameter button and dail
up or down with the data wheel. Lots of good sounds in the box that
show off some of the units abilities. The manual helps with assigning
different parameters to the pedal and tells you what the different
amp models are.

I use this running direct to P.A. and it sounds wonderful. There is
minumal noise for a box at this price, but 24 bit always sound pretty
good. FX are all strong and have level control, the compressor is very
nice with selectable crossover so you only compress the freq. and below that you want. The distortions really rock, there is overdrive
and fuzz, the bass synth sounds cool but I haven't found a place to use it, but I'm sure I will. I play a Warwick Corvette through this box to p.a. and it sounds great!!!!

I play mostly METAL, but some prog rock and art rock, this unit works
well with all these styles. I have played guitar for 20+ years and
bass for about 3+ years. I have too much gear to spend the time putting it here, let's just say I use Roland, Digitech, Yamaha, BBE,
DBX, Soundcraft, Peavey, Johnson Amplification, AKG, Shure, Warwick,
Ibanez, Eden, DOD, Chandler, Alesis, Steinberg. If I lost it or it was
stolen I'd get another one.
