Simple delay pedal and easy to configure to your liking. Lost the manual about 9 years ago and still do not regret not reading it.

Sound Quality : 9
Last pedal in my train. Very quiet except when it runs low on batt. (it will sing a high note) Advice is to buy a 9V DC wall-wart. I got a power adapter for it from RadioShack (shudder) and was surprised how quiet it was. No noise at all. I forgot the wall-wart once for a show. I ended up using two batteries that night. This thing sucks batteries dry fast. Get wall-wart. As far as quality reproduction of sound, this pedal is great. Also, it gets along well with other pedals.

Reliability : 9
Never failed me, though the plastic switch scares me. I should settle down after 9 years of flawless use. You have to be deliberate with the footswitch though. I have many times unintentionally "double-tapped" the switch. I would think that I had shut the thing off, but there it was glowing in my face. (and echoing) I would consider replacing with a BOSS DD-5 for this reason alone.

Customer Support : 10
I recently lost one of the knobs on my unit. I had no idea if/where I could get a replacement other than ripping one off a demo at Guitar Center. So I wrote to support@dod.com. I was surprised to receive an Email the following morning. The Rep told me that they had an extra knob sitting on their desk and that it was on its way to me in the mail at no charge. It really is the little things that count. I give a 10 for that.

Overall Rating : 9
This thing is long discontinued. Good luck finding a replacement. I hear the DD-5 is very nice. I would like the DD-5 but cant see spending money on it when I have this perfectly good and reliable DOS DFX9.

Simplistic controls, which need no explanation once you understand how to use echo / delay. Foot switch is big and easy to trigger. A truly good sound is not easy but thats digital delay for you. Manual is fine but it is difficult to nail down how to use the infinite option but you need to practice anyway.

Sound Quality : 9
No guitars girls, I use it for saxophone. This is one of the quietest delay devices I have ever known and I have used it in the studio for recording to the master tape. People just don't understand how to get the right echo effect and cross delays can be messy so I like to use my DOD! Don't really depend on amps but I use it through a LANEY CP12 powered monitor. I can get that sound I want and it's my own sound! The sound can be a bit edgey if you don't blend and EQ correctly.

Reliability : 10
It has never let me down but of course it eats batteries as do all digital delays. One gig from a good fresh Duracel. I use a transformer but you need the correct milli-ampage otherwise it tends to heat up the power units and burn 'em out. Works well on 10 volts but haven't risked 12! Always use it WITHOUT a backup!

Never had to deal really with DOD but have asked for a replacement knob insert but never ever received a response!. Got two instruction booklets with it and still have 'em.

Overall Rating : 10
I play all styles of music and constantly tweek those knobs.
I've been playing for 25 years and have used WEM CopyCat, Roland RE 501 Space chorus Echo and EchoPlex, old DOD and BOSS digi delays. I liked the old analogue delays best. Love the EchoPlex best but it doesn't fit in the pocket. I also use the FX on my Yamaha WX5 and VL Wind Synth set up, these are unbeatable but not as handy as the DOD. My DFX9 is about 5 years old and it's going well - I don't stomp on it - I depress the switch, with my foot, with grace and care and it ain't borken yet! The pedal is chipped, covered in beer, kicked and thrown around in cases, it's been round most of europe and it is a vital part of my sound, which I couldn't live without.
I would buy another if I could get one but everyone seems to be selling other brands such as marshal. I've just bought a new Marshal chorus because I couldn't get a DOD!
I like the DOD DFX9 becuase it's BULLET PROOF, big and heavy.
I don't like the knobs becuase they protrude and I've lost one of the inserts, which makes it difficult to use quickly because I can't see what the setting is. I wish it had a lifetime guarentee! and I wish it had the white plastic insert so I could quickly see where the knob was set.

Digital delay.Tweak the knobs until it makes the sound you like.If I can figure it out anyone can. Don't know why everyone bitchs about the switch.Mine works fine and I bought it used. You can get a manual from DOD for $ but why?

Sound Quality : 7
I have a lone star strat that I play through a Ibanez super chorus and the dfx9 to a blues Jr.Sound seems a- ok. I have alot of fun with it . I mainly play blues and classic rock and can get get that long ago far away kind of feel out of it. I wish the endless repete function were longer.

Reliability : 7
Have not had one problem with the switch. You all need to stop jumping on yours! Damn thing eats battries like no tommarow. Keep a fresh one handy. It will let you know when it is time to change.

Customer Support : 8
I e-mailed DOD about getting a manual when I first got it and they e-mailed me right back. Can't bitch so far.

Overall Rating : 7
I have been playing for about 4 years and have a few other guitars besides the strat. I mostly sit around the house and jam alond with CDs but am thinking of finding some people to play with in my area to see if we can all have fun and learn. So far I realy like this unit and would probly buy another one if it got gone or broke.

I'm never buying another DOD pedal. Plastic switch? yeah, good idea! the on/off button underneath the plastic "stomp" piece is fucked on my pedal. the only reason it's still working is because I put a small rubber cone under the 'pin' on the plastic piece.
If anyone finds that their pedal simply won't turn on, try taking off the plastic and clicking the button with your finger to make sure it still works. if it doesn't, well, your pedal is gone, lost forever, wchi suck s because these things aren't cheap. But if it still works you can try placing something between the pin and the button. try a piece of rubber, because it's gotta be something that gives back enough to release the button. Fuck, I don't even want to talk about this fucking pedal. it sucks. don't buy it. i'm just glad mine works again. BOSS PEDALS FOREVER!!!!!!

fuck it. I know it's going to break again in the next few years, and when that happens I'm going to beat the shit out of it with a hammer!

Four knobs to control Level, Repeat (feedback), Delay Time, and Mode (five or six ranges from 15ms to Infinite Repeat). Tap on, tap off. How hard is that? Sampling a phrase in Infinite Repeat mode take a few tries to get the hang of it, but the average person can probably master it in five minutes. Didn't get a manual (borrowing from a friend), and you don't need it if you know what a delay is supposed to do.

Sound Quality : 8
I use it in the effects loop of my Laney TubeFusion amp. Maybe not ideal for using on studio master tracks, but sounds nice and clear enough for live applications. Be careful when using Infinite Repeat, however, because you sample any sound your pickups detect, such as finger noise, poorly muted strings. You get out what you put in, again and again and again and again and again -- just what a digital delay is supposed to do.

Reliability : 8
I've never been one to actually stomp on stomboxes, which is probably why mine hasn't broken yet. I had another DOD pedal of some sort in the 1980s, and it held up fine. The battery door could be a problem, but I've even had touchy battery doors on Boss pedals. As long as you don't kill it and bang against the knobs, I don't see why this pedal would fail you, in spite of DOD's less-than-stellar reputation. I'd use it without a backup. All I really need is a guitar, amp, fingers, and a song; people sometimes forget that's what playing guitar is about.

Customer Support : No Opinion
It's used and several years old, so I'm probably up the creek on this one.

Overall Rating : 9
The DFX9 has been out of production for several years at the time of this writing. If you find one that works, it's a good bargain. Buy it. DO NOT BUY if you expect analog-sounding delay; this is old 8- or 16-bit digital sampling. It's not bright sounding like some digital delays.

This pedal (along with most any effects pedal) is a piece of cake to use. Just plug in and find some cool settings on your own...no manual required.

Sound Quality : 8
Ok I have to admit that it sounds pretty good (my gripe with the thing is to follow). I use a stock Fender strat through a Fender Hot Rod DeVille (which sounds pretty good for blues/rock) and in between are a bunch of fx pedals (Dunlop Rotovibe & Crybaby, Boss Metal Zone & Flanger, DOD Classic Fuzz and of course this digital delay) I don't chain all these together at once so I can't really comment on the noise issue. It sounded ok with the wah and metal zone though. I could easily get that spacy kind of vibe happening with the amp reverb turned up combo'd with the flanger and delay. All in all this pedal sounded pretty good. My one tiny minor complaint with the sound is that when you turned it off (if it turns off!!!!!) it cut the sound dead in it's tracks. It would be nice if it faded out a bit, but oh well I plan on getting a Boss DD-5 (which does this) to replace it because...

Reliability : 2
The piece of shit for an on/off switch finally blew out on me...mid gig no less...G@# D%$#, Mutherf#$%ing, sonuva BITCH. With that out of my system I really hope somebody from DOD reads this. Now, I'm not one to abuse my gear. I put each pedal back in the box after the gig and I certainly don't really stomp on it. This pedal, upon not shutting off (after multiple attempts of varying strengths from intial toe tap to stanstill stomp), endured a full out, running start, drop kick from a 175lb man. Then and only then did it turn off. I immeadiatly disconected it and went the rest of the gig without it. Upon getting home I opened it up (bought it mint used so warranty was not an issue)and the microswitch inside works ok so it's just the shitty plastic thing on the outside that sucks. DOD needs to completly re-engineer the casing for their products as the sound wasn't too bad at all. After my experience with this thing I would have to say: save your pennies kids and go out and buy a Boss DD-5. It has all the same functions and then some plus it's built like a brick shithouse.

Customer Support : No Opinion
This problem just happened so I have yet to consult DOD. But with the warranty expired and the fact that they will probably want me to "send it in so a techie can tell me that it works perfectly fine blah blah blah..." I think I'll just skip this stage and use the damned thing as a paperweight/spare parts.

Overall Rating : 4
Ok, Ok, I know I've come down pretty hard on the little guy (literally) it's got a decent sound but shares a design flaw with all other DOD pedals. In fact a friend had a DOD Classic Tube with the same problem and ended up completely abandoning the thing. I really don't know what the designer was thinking when they decided to use plastic parts for anything other than the pot covers. Hey did I mention the thing eats batteries like mad? (This of course is something all digital delays do cuz of the processing power needed.) I've had an adaptor for it since the day I got it when it ate a brand new 9V in about 2 hours time. So my final opinion comes down to this: if you are a begining guitarist/musician and happen find this pedal dirt and I mean dirt cheap somewhere, go ahead and buy it cuz like I said it sounds pretty good and is relativly easy to use. If you plan on being a serious musician/guitar player anytime soon save up and get something more reliable. THERE ARE NO SECOND TAKES IN A LIVE SITUATION.

This thing is pretty easy to use, just plug it in and twist the knobs to your liking. Would've been easier if I had a manual, (Bought used) but you can get the sound you want out of this bad boy pretty easily.

Knobs: Level, Repeats, Delay (time), and Mode (time ranges from 16 MS to 1 second, and infinate repeats)

Sound Quality : 8
I'm running a Telecaster or this cheapo Kay guitar (god I love it) into a no-name wah-wah-->Boss Ds-1-->EH Big Muff-->DFX9-DIGITAL DELAY-->MXR Phase 90-->Rack EQ--> Music Man 212 HD amp (which rocks)

First of all, as earlier mentioned this thing eats batteries like nobody's business, and this affects your tone greatly,so get yourself a "wall wart". There's a little buzz when you click it on, but I have noticed that sometimes it's there, and other times it's not. This little box sounds very good, though. I was surprised how analog it sounded when i tested it. The slapbacks are good, and warm. The longer repeats yield a bit of high-end "tinny-ness" but nothing too bad. The infinate repeat is cool, but i have found little use for it except making crazy noises by turning the delay time knob to cause a pitch shift. This box is great for layering/thickening your sound without addind too much of its own "color". You can get U2 sounds, Pink Floyd, Jimmy Page bow solo echoes, and you can make Tom Morello noises all very accurately.

Reliability : 7
As long as I have my adaptor, definately I would gig w/ out a backup. Solid metal. The only thing that frustrates me is the footswitch...plastic...scary. If problems arose w/ this unit I would definately tinker with it on my own, for reasons, see below. But a good solid pedal indeed.

Customer Support : 6
I would never deal with this company with my own problems. I have had my own personal reservations with them now for several months, first I ordered a new Whammy re-issue and they have yet to have delivered it to my pick-up location, and have promised that is "in this week" for months, but that's just me. Someone I know needed a part for a compressor, and they wouldn't help him. I wouldn;'t trust em' if mine broke.

Overall Rating : 8
I play everything, mostly rock and this is almost indespensible now. I love just thickening up my tone with it.I love experimenting around in my room with the pitch shifting glitch. I would give it a longer battery life if possible. I wish it had some sort of reverse mode like the DD-5, but no real complaints.

This is an easy and fun pedal. The only problem is switching your delay setting...if you go from one setting to another it is really hard to find the right place on the dials. They are pretty sensitive.

Sound Quality : 8
I have a fender 1967 reissue strat and I run it through either a fender m-80 head with a fender 4x12 or a Peavey "Deuce" 2x12 tube amp with an old school tube screamer, a crybaby, a hint of chorus, and a boss dual overdrive. It sounds better through the fender because it is a wuieter amp. The delay is cool, but it is hard to replicate the next time you want it. If you put the delay short enough you can get cool chorussy sounds that have whacked out treble. ***THE COOLEST THING ABOUT THE PEDAL: it may be just mine, but if you tweak the knobs while you are playing you get these spacey pitch shifts etc. It really serves no purpose, but it is fun to fool around with for a while.***

Reliability : 8
It is a dependable pedal, but (like i have said before) i am a bit of a freak when it comes to my sound, and it is really hard for me to exactly match the previous delay settings that I've had. I don't generally use delay much at gigs, but I would without a backup.

I bought this puppy at a pawn shop for fun and games, and that is what it is good for. I play a little Floyd here and there and it can play the part just fine.

Nice sound, especially those wanting to emulate U2. The manual wasn't necessary, it's a delay pedal. If you are buying one, you'd better know how to twist a knob.

Sound Quality : 9
I have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard run through a pedal board into a Crate Vintage Club tube amp. It sounds nice, especially on a slight delay while playing a distorted lead. also, with a chorus and compressor you can get some nice 80's sounds (a la Sting). The sound quality is nice. I think it softens up the total sound, and warms it up. It does eat batteries, and at the end of the battery life, it sounds like crap, but don't all pedals?

Reliability : 9
I depend on it all the time, although never without an extra 9 volt. it would be much better with a wall wart. I use it all the time on gigs without a back up.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Don't have a clue how DOD treats people.

Overall Rating : 9
I play anything from praise and worship to straight up metal. It works with probably about 65-70% of what i play. it's nice to have, and i'd definitely replace it, but maybe with a newer model.

Very self-explanatory controls. No need to refer to a manual because you don't have a clue what the knobs do.

Sound Quality : 9
Warmest, least sterile, digital delay I've heard. Does the slapback thing very well with the Level up all the way (think U2, Police, Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell"). Also perfect for adding some depth to lead tones (just turn down the level). Useful between 250-1000 ms. Faster settings are cartoonish and not very practical. Infinite repeat is great for days when you feel like experimenting.

Reliability : 7
Had some minor problems with the footswitch not working, but I'm a tinkerer, so I fixed it myself. Could be because I bought it used.
Other than that, flawless.

No clue.

Most useful pedal I own. It's hardly ever not on. It just adds so much atmosphere
