sweet, DOD's first digital delay pedal!

It's got the normal 3 knobs plus a range knob with an infinite setting. In the infinite mode the delay stays on and the switch selects normal or infinite mode. I find this very usefull. Easier to use than the digitech pds-2000, but only one second of time.

Sound Quality : 10
This delay fits into a little discussed area of lo-fi digital. When we think of lo-fi digital we think of a gritty and bit crushed sound...WRONG. Much like a vintage 12 bit sampler the sound is changed but it is not pixilated. It is blurred together. People like to call analoge delay "warm". Digital delays get called "cold". This delay is not warm or cold...it is ROUND.

Used - no manual included or, apparently, to be found. The controls are self-explanatory and exceptionally well voiced. The level and feedback controls in particular offer a fantastic range of textures. The Infinate Repeat option is beyond me and, since it only samples 1 second, is pretty useless.

Sound Quality : 10
I bought this pedal to work as an accessory to my long-favorite Akai Headrush. By the end of the first hour of playing, my Headrush was packed away. This DOD sounds fantastic and mixes extremely well with every other effect I own. I didn't realize how gloomy the Headrush made my playing sound until the DFX9 brightened it right up. It uses a 12-bit sample rate, compared to the 16 bit rate of most newer devises. Oddly enough, the lower quality sampleing actually makes the effect sit in the mix better. I like the slight degredation that starts to occur around the third repeat and find that (for a digital effect) the sound is very organic. I put all the controls at 9 o'clock and leave it on most of the time.

Reliability : 3
It's an American DOD - the pinacle of non-reliability. I got this for $15 because the switch was broken. Having been a DOD fan for a while, I was able to correct the problem easily, but it's only a matter of time. I use this box for recording and playing at home mostly, but may use it on a gig if it keeps working for another few weeks with no problems. I have my Headrush as a backup, which is funny given that it's worth ten times as much. DOD sells NOS switches for about $0.30 each on their website, and I plan to stock up just in case. It uses a phone-plug adapter, which can be hard to come by in a pinch.

This pedal is fifteen years old - I don't bother customer support with it. I think they still get complaints about the crummy switch designs that they used in the 80's.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I play laid back jazzy stuff and crazy dissonant noise rock. It works for those very well and I think that players of most any style could find a useful tone or two. If this were stolen I would be crushed and immediatly begin scouring the earth for another one, possibly even two or three. I bought this on impulse because I love DOD pedals and it was only $15 (the exact amount in my wallet) and am so glad that I did. This with my Overdrive Preamp create total sonic nirvana.

Very easy to use. The manual is somewhat helpful. It would be nice to see example settings for the new owner to use as a basis to find what they like.

Sound Quality : 9
Sound quality is very good. I play it with an ADA flanger and 5150 combo amp. All very compatible together. Not noisy. Compliments my other amp too.

Reliability : 10
Extremely reliable. Have had it for years and highly recommend it to anyone. It is a great value too. You can't go wrong with this pedal.

Customer Support : 8
Have had great luck geting general product info from DOD. Quick to respond. Never had service issue so I don't know if they provide high customer satisfaction.

I play Van Halen, Aerosmith, Kiss and newer types also. This all sounds great through my system. I have a Wolfgang, Jackson and Charvel guitars and my kids have mini strats. Price and quality are great with this. It will go toe to toe with any other delay I have tried. I bought this used. It was 3 months old and it was like new condition and I paid like $40 for it.

Bought my pedal new about 10 years ago. It was the first delay I'd ever used, and the only one since! Took a fair bit of playing around with and experimenting to see what it could do, though that may of been because using a delay was new to me. Only in the last couple of years has it become a regular part of my rig. Stumbled upon a good setting by accident and it's not been switched off since! Have now got the hang of it, less effect is more, and constantly adjust it when playing song to song. It has taken a long time to get the most out of it, had to keep at it before i could use this pedal as i wanted to.

Sound Quality : 10
I play blues using a fender strat through a dunlop wah, marshall bluesbreakerII, boss tremelo, dod delay into a laney LC50II. The dod delay sits on top of my amp and is constantly on, so I've never had any problem with the on/off switch. I adjust the settings on it before nearly every song though i keep the level down so it's being used subtley. I play lead in my band, mostly slide and find this pedal gives a mild compression effect, smooths the sound out, and adds texture that i could not play without now. It's a vital part of my sound! I would agree with one of the reviews that this pedal seems to be slighly on even when off, though it doesn't affect me as I leave it on when playing. 10/10 as it is so part of my sound now.

Reliability : 10
I give it top marks here as I've had it over 10 years and gigged it constantly for 2 and never had a problem. I store it in it's box when not in use and don't treat it rough so that will help. As it sits on my amp, to be in easy reach for adjusting, it's not taken any floor based foot abuse, wich will certainly of kept it going. Don't carry a back up, but I use a wallwart for it as I discovered first day this drains batterys! I run all my pedals like this though.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to have any dealings with DOD

Overall Rating : 8
Can't give it a 10 here as I've never used any othr delay to compare it against.Having said that I've never needed to. It works perfectly for what I want. I play blues and it handles it well. It has it's quirks, the way you can't seem to 100% turn it off, but this doesn't affect me as I allways have it on! Does a good range of sounds from light reverb to chorus-y to full on delay. The way I use it means i can constantly adjust it while playing and this seems for me to get the most out of it. Would definitly replace it if i lost it, though have often thought of running another delay pedal as well for more variety of sounds. Like all gear you gotta use it and get used to it to get the most out of it!

Ease of Use : 9
Very easy to use. I've had it for about 9 years and upgraded to a Line 6 DL-4 about a year ago but find myself coming back to this thing.

Sound Quality : 8
I don't use this in my chain of effects just because I really don't like digital units. I used though an SG Standard with a Boss SD-1 into a '90s Fender 25 watt Champ hybrid. I never noticed it being noisy at all. I play alot of indy rock and found that the longer delay settings to be the most usable. The repeat mode is fun to us but could never find a reason to use it in a band setting. The delay gets a little noisey if the battery runs low so I suggest a wall-wart. I play a Fugazi/Sonic Youth/ math rocky sound though this. I would rather have an analog delay because I like to have a richer sound. The Line 6 DL-4 I have can achive a generic warm tape or analog sound I'm looking for. So, I really don't use this unit anymore. In the future i can see myself going back to this!

Reliability : 8
Like I said, had it for 9 years!

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 8
I don't use it anymore but sounds better than my DL-4. The only reason I use my DL-4 is because of the different modulation. Ive been playing for 16 years and it was one of my favorite pedals for about 6 of these. If it were stolen i'd hope the person that stole it would at least us it. When I bought this pedal I was in my teens and didn't really think to much on tone, I just wanted a delay. Right now, i would like an old analog delay for a warm slap back or a Roland Space Echo. If you want a simple delay to give you a nice mild sound I would highly suggest this unit.

Lovely sound, i love delays and this is better than the boss dd3 that i've got since the knobs are larger and easier to twist. and my dd3 broke within a few months, also the hold is better, since you can tell when it delays as compared to the dd3 which does not delay until you press the switch.

Sound Quality : 9
well i've got a tube tusc amp and another delay (half rack boss) and this pedal addes to the delay from my half rack. so longer delays can be smoothed out with this pedal. i also use the hold function for a sort of timed chruch bell/dual note effect which works great with this pedal. the sound is that of a digital delay (err..duh) but it's warm and i can't tell much difference from the dd3.

Reliability : 7
very rliable, i've never had to use a back up. the only problem is that the power cable in is a small headphone sized input, and it's on the side. this means that if you use a cheap power supply with the spider connectors, it can get entagled with the output cable...grrr. so i've been using a battery lately, until i remember to buy a better power supply.

Customer Support : No Opinion

well I LOVE DELAYS! and this is a great pedal, easy to use, big fat knobs, lovely sound. a satisfying and easy to tap swicth. which is good cos i'm a weak girl who plays barefoot. so i don't jump on the pedal ever!!! the repeats are clear and it's just great fun to use. if you buy boss, get an 80s half rack, don't bother with the dd3...get this instead!!! and to boot i got this dead cheap cos cash convertors didn't realise how much delay pedals are worth compared to other pedals!

10 10 10 i bought this used, throught the mail, for cheap, and it looked scruffy when i bought it. I treat it pretty well, but carried it in my backpack a few times, maybe dropped it once or twice, but im generally nice to it. i dont jump up and come down on my pedals. i play like adam jones so im nice to my stuff. bottom line, after 4 years of owning it used and what i said above, it works WONDERFULLY. battery thing in the back is flimsy, and the 9V battery thing doesnt work, but i got it without the battery casing, so i cant really blame dod for the wires breaking. my dod pedals that have backs, keep having theirs. idunmo what people do to get this stuff to fall off. just be nice and it works forever.

Four knobs, level, repeat, delay, and range/mode. Pretty easy to use if you have used delay pedals before. You have to spend a little time tweaking it to find your sound. Once you've got, your good to go.

Sound Quality : 10
I play a Fender Hwy 1 Strat, Epiphone Les Paul, and Washburn acoustic-electric through an MXR Distortion+, Dunlop wah, Ibanez TS-9 tubescreamer, Dunlop Univibe Stereo Chorus, and the DOD DFX9 Delay into a Fender Princeton Chorus amp. The DOD DFX9 interacts well with all of my other effects and is not noisy at all. You can get a variety of sounds from this like slapback echo or infinite repeat and all the places in between.

Reliability : No Opinion
I have no opinion on this because I don't gig without a backup for any of my pedals

Bought it used from a used items table at a local music store. I had originally bought the unit brand new back in 1996 but sold it due to a need for college tuition money. I've been playing for more than eight years and have used many delay units. This one just works the best for me and doesn't seem to sound so mechanical like the boss digital delays. I have a Boss DD-3. Don't get me wrong, its a good pedal, but the DOD DFX9 sounds more musical than the Boss pedal ever thought of. If this one was ever stolen, I would use the Boss until I could find another one. They are pretty hard to find now, except for maybe on e-bay.

I can get doubling effects and the infinate repeat is pretty cool. I can get that repeat thing from Die Die My Darling ( Misfits / Metallica ). I have run it through 2 different Crate amps. GX65 and GFX120. I can get a decent George Lynch delay sound that he uses on solos. I use it for just about everything.

Simple delay pedal and easy to configure to your liking. Lost the manual about 9 years ago and still do not regret not reading it.

Sound Quality : 9
Last pedal in my train. Very quiet except when it runs low on batt. (it will sing a high note) Advice is to buy a 9V DC wall-wart. I got a power adapter for it from RadioShack (shudder) and was surprised how quiet it was. No noise at all. I forgot the wall-wart once for a show. I ended up using two batteries that night. This thing sucks batteries dry fast. Get wall-wart. As far as quality reproduction of sound, this pedal is great. Also, it gets along well with other pedals.

Reliability : 9
Never failed me, though the plastic switch scares me. I should settle down after 9 years of flawless use. You have to be deliberate with the footswitch though. I have many times unintentionally "double-tapped" the switch. I would think that I had shut the thing off, but there it was glowing in my face. (and echoing) I would consider replacing with a BOSS DD-5 for this reason alone.

Customer Support : 10
I recently lost one of the knobs on my unit. I had no idea if/where I could get a replacement other than ripping one off a demo at Guitar Center. So I wrote to support@dod.com. I was surprised to receive an Email the following morning. The Rep told me that they had an extra knob sitting on their desk and that it was on its way to me in the mail at no charge. It really is the little things that count. I give a 10 for that.

Overall Rating : 9
This thing is long discontinued. Good luck finding a replacement. I hear the DD-5 is very nice. I would like the DD-5 but cant see spending money on it when I have this perfectly good and reliable DOS DFX9.

Simplistic controls, which need no explanation once you understand how to use echo / delay. Foot switch is big and easy to trigger. A truly good sound is not easy but thats digital delay for you. Manual is fine but it is difficult to nail down how to use the infinite option but you need to practice anyway.

Sound Quality : 9
No guitars girls, I use it for saxophone. This is one of the quietest delay devices I have ever known and I have used it in the studio for recording to the master tape. People just don't understand how to get the right echo effect and cross delays can be messy so I like to use my DOD! Don't really depend on amps but I use it through a LANEY CP12 powered monitor. I can get that sound I want and it's my own sound! The sound can be a bit edgey if you don't blend and EQ correctly.

Reliability : 10
It has never let me down but of course it eats batteries as do all digital delays. One gig from a good fresh Duracel. I use a transformer but you need the correct milli-ampage otherwise it tends to heat up the power units and burn 'em out. Works well on 10 volts but haven't risked 12! Always use it WITHOUT a backup!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal really with DOD but have asked for a replacement knob insert but never ever received a response!. Got two instruction booklets with it and still have 'em.

Overall Rating : 10
I play all styles of music and constantly tweek those knobs.
I've been playing for 25 years and have used WEM CopyCat, Roland RE 501 Space chorus Echo and EchoPlex, old DOD and BOSS digi delays. I liked the old analogue delays best. Love the EchoPlex best but it doesn't fit in the pocket. I also use the FX on my Yamaha WX5 and VL Wind Synth set up, these are unbeatable but not as handy as the DOD. My DFX9 is about 5 years old and it's going well - I don't stomp on it - I depress the switch, with my foot, with grace and care and it ain't borken yet! The pedal is chipped, covered in beer, kicked and thrown around in cases, it's been round most of europe and it is a vital part of my sound, which I couldn't live without.
I would buy another if I could get one but everyone seems to be selling other brands such as marshal. I've just bought a new Marshal chorus because I couldn't get a DOD!
I like the DOD DFX9 becuase it's BULLET PROOF, big and heavy.
I don't like the knobs becuase they protrude and I've lost one of the inserts, which makes it difficult to use quickly because I can't see what the setting is. I wish it had a lifetime guarentee! and I wish it had the white plastic insert so I could quickly see where the knob was set.

I'm never buying another DOD pedal. Plastic switch? yeah, good idea! the on/off button underneath the plastic "stomp" piece is fucked on my pedal. the only reason it's still working is because I put a small rubber cone under the 'pin' on the plastic piece.
If anyone finds that their pedal simply won't turn on, try taking off the plastic and clicking the button with your finger to make sure it still works. if it doesn't, well, your pedal is gone, lost forever, wchi suck s because these things aren't cheap. But if it still works you can try placing something between the pin and the button. try a piece of rubber, because it's gotta be something that gives back enough to release the button. Fuck, I don't even want to talk about this fucking pedal. it sucks. don't buy it. i'm just glad mine works again. BOSS PEDALS FOREVER!!!!!!

Four knobs to control Level, Repeat (feedback), Delay Time, and Mode (five or six ranges from 15ms to Infinite Repeat). Tap on, tap off. How hard is that? Sampling a phrase in Infinite Repeat mode take a few tries to get the hang of it, but the average person can probably master it in five minutes. Didn't get a manual (borrowing from a friend), and you don't need it if you know what a delay is supposed to do.

Sound Quality : 8
I use it in the effects loop of my Laney TubeFusion amp. Maybe not ideal for using on studio master tracks, but sounds nice and clear enough for live applications. Be careful when using Infinite Repeat, however, because you sample any sound your pickups detect, such as finger noise, poorly muted strings. You get out what you put in, again and again and again and again and again -- just what a digital delay is supposed to do.

Reliability : 8
I've never been one to actually stomp on stomboxes, which is probably why mine hasn't broken yet. I had another DOD pedal of some sort in the 1980s, and it held up fine. The battery door could be a problem, but I've even had touchy battery doors on Boss pedals. As long as you don't kill it and bang against the knobs, I don't see why this pedal would fail you, in spite of DOD's less-than-stellar reputation. I'd use it without a backup. All I really need is a guitar, amp, fingers, and a song; people sometimes forget that's what playing guitar is about.

Customer Support : No Opinion
It's used and several years old, so I'm probably up the creek on this one.

Overall Rating : 9
The DFX9 has been out of production for several years at the time of this writing. If you find one that works, it's a good bargain. Buy it. DO NOT BUY if you expect analog-sounding delay; this is old 8- or 16-bit digital sampling. It's not bright sounding like some digital delays.

This pedal (along with most any effects pedal) is a piece of cake to use. Just plug in and find some cool settings on your own...no manual required.

Sound Quality : 8
Ok I have to admit that it sounds pretty good (my gripe with the thing is to follow). I use a stock Fender strat through a Fender Hot Rod DeVille (which sounds pretty good for blues/rock) and in between are a bunch of fx pedals (Dunlop Rotovibe & Crybaby, Boss Metal Zone & Flanger, DOD Classic Fuzz and of course this digital delay) I don't chain all these together at once so I can't really comment on the noise issue. It sounded ok with the wah and metal zone though. I could easily get that spacy kind of vibe happening with the amp reverb turned up combo'd with the flanger and delay. All in all this pedal sounded pretty good. My one tiny minor complaint with the sound is that when you turned it off (if it turns off!!!!!) it cut the sound dead in it's tracks. It would be nice if it faded out a bit, but oh well I plan on getting a Boss DD-5 (which does this) to replace it because...

Reliability : 2
The piece of shit for an on/off switch finally blew out on me...mid gig no less...G@# D%$#, Mutherf#$%ing, sonuva BITCH. With that out of my system I really hope somebody from DOD reads this. Now, I'm not one to abuse my gear. I put each pedal back in the box after the gig and I certainly don't really stomp on it. This pedal, upon not shutting off (after multiple attempts of varying strengths from intial toe tap to stanstill stomp), endured a full out, running start, drop kick from a 175lb man. Then and only then did it turn off. I immeadiatly disconected it and went the rest of the gig without it. Upon getting home I opened it up (bought it mint used so warranty was not an issue)and the microswitch inside works ok so it's just the shitty plastic thing on the outside that sucks. DOD needs to completly re-engineer the casing for their products as the sound wasn't too bad at all. After my experience with this thing I would have to say: save your pennies kids and go out and buy a Boss DD-5. It has all the same functions and then some plus it's built like a brick shithouse.

Customer Support : No Opinion
This problem just happened so I have yet to consult DOD. But with the warranty expired and the fact that they will probably want me to "send it in so a techie can tell me that it works perfectly fine blah blah blah..." I think I'll just skip this stage and use the damned thing as a paperweight/spare parts.

Overall Rating : 4
Ok, Ok, I know I've come down pretty hard on the little guy (literally) it's got a decent sound but shares a design flaw with all other DOD pedals. In fact a friend had a DOD Classic Tube with the same problem and ended up completely abandoning the thing. I really don't know what the designer was thinking when they decided to use plastic parts for anything other than the pot covers. Hey did I mention the thing eats batteries like mad? (This of course is something all digital delays do cuz of the processing power needed.) I've had an adaptor for it since the day I got it when it ate a brand new 9V in about 2 hours time. So my final opinion comes down to this: if you are a begining guitarist/musician and happen find this pedal dirt and I mean dirt cheap somewhere, go ahead and buy it cuz like I said it sounds pretty good and is relativly easy to use. If you plan on being a serious musician/guitar player anytime soon save up and get something more reliable. THERE ARE NO SECOND TAKES IN A LIVE SITUATION.

This thing is pretty easy to use, just plug it in and twist the knobs to your liking. Would've been easier if I had a manual, (Bought used) but you can get the sound you want out of this bad boy pretty easily.

Knobs: Level, Repeats, Delay (time), and Mode (time ranges from 16 MS to 1 second, and infinate repeats)

Sound Quality : 8
I'm running a Telecaster or this cheapo Kay guitar (god I love it) into a no-name wah-wah-->Boss Ds-1-->EH Big Muff-->DFX9-DIGITAL DELAY-->MXR Phase 90-->Rack EQ--> Music Man 212 HD amp (which rocks)

First of all, as earlier mentioned this thing eats batteries like nobody's business, and this affects your tone greatly,so get yourself a "wall wart". There's a little buzz when you click it on, but I have noticed that sometimes it's there, and other times it's not. This little box sounds very good, though. I was surprised how analog it sounded when i tested it. The slapbacks are good, and warm. The longer repeats yield a bit of high-end "tinny-ness" but nothing too bad. The infinate repeat is cool, but i have found little use for it except making crazy noises by turning the delay time knob to cause a pitch shift. This box is great for layering/thickening your sound without addind too much of its own "color". You can get U2 sounds, Pink Floyd, Jimmy Page bow solo echoes, and you can make Tom Morello noises all very accurately.

Reliability : 7
As long as I have my adaptor, definately I would gig w/ out a backup. Solid metal. The only thing that frustrates me is the footswitch...plastic...scary. If problems arose w/ this unit I would definately tinker with it on my own, for reasons, see below. But a good solid pedal indeed.

Customer Support : 6
I would never deal with this company with my own problems. I have had my own personal reservations with them now for several months, first I ordered a new Whammy re-issue and they have yet to have delivered it to my pick-up location, and have promised that is "in this week" for months, but that's just me. Someone I know needed a part for a compressor, and they wouldn't help him. I wouldn;'t trust em' if mine broke.

Overall Rating : 8
I play everything, mostly rock and this is almost indespensible now. I love just thickening up my tone with it.I love experimenting around in my room with the pitch shifting glitch. I would give it a longer battery life if possible. I wish it had some sort of reverse mode like the DD-5, but no real complaints.

This is an easy and fun pedal. The only problem is switching your delay setting...if you go from one setting to another it is really hard to find the right place on the dials. They are pretty sensitive.

Sound Quality : 8
I have a fender 1967 reissue strat and I run it through either a fender m-80 head with a fender 4x12 or a Peavey "Deuce" 2x12 tube amp with an old school tube screamer, a crybaby, a hint of chorus, and a boss dual overdrive. It sounds better through the fender because it is a wuieter amp. The delay is cool, but it is hard to replicate the next time you want it. If you put the delay short enough you can get cool chorussy sounds that have whacked out treble. ***THE COOLEST THING ABOUT THE PEDAL: it may be just mine, but if you tweak the knobs while you are playing you get these spacey pitch shifts etc. It really serves no purpose, but it is fun to fool around with for a while.***

Reliability : 8
It is a dependable pedal, but (like i have said before) i am a bit of a freak when it comes to my sound, and it is really hard for me to exactly match the previous delay settings that I've had. I don't generally use delay much at gigs, but I would without a backup.

I bought this puppy at a pawn shop for fun and games, and that is what it is good for. I play a little Floyd here and there and it can play the part just fine.

Nice sound, especially those wanting to emulate U2. The manual wasn't necessary, it's a delay pedal. If you are buying one, you'd better know how to twist a knob.

Sound Quality : 9
I have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard run through a pedal board into a Crate Vintage Club tube amp. It sounds nice, especially on a slight delay while playing a distorted lead. also, with a chorus and compressor you can get some nice 80's sounds (a la Sting). The sound quality is nice. I think it softens up the total sound, and warms it up. It does eat batteries, and at the end of the battery life, it sounds like crap, but don't all pedals?

Reliability : 9
I depend on it all the time, although never without an extra 9 volt. it would be much better with a wall wart. I use it all the time on gigs without a back up.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Don't have a clue how DOD treats people.

Overall Rating : 9
I play anything from praise and worship to straight up metal. It works with probably about 65-70% of what i play. it's nice to have, and i'd definitely replace it, but maybe with a newer model.

Very self-explanatory controls. No need to refer to a manual because you don't have a clue what the knobs do.

Sound Quality : 9
Warmest, least sterile, digital delay I've heard. Does the slapback thing very well with the Level up all the way (think U2, Police, Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell"). Also perfect for adding some depth to lead tones (just turn down the level). Useful between 250-1000 ms. Faster settings are cartoonish and not very practical. Infinite repeat is great for days when you feel like experimenting.

Reliability : 7
Had some minor problems with the footswitch not working, but I'm a tinkerer, so I fixed it myself. Could be because I bought it used.
Other than that, flawless.

Most useful pedal I own. It's hardly ever not on. It just adds so much atmosphere

Very straightforward controls. Never have used the infinite setting for anything but playing around at home. Overall it is very easy to set-up

Sound Quality : 9
I play a Am. Std Tele and an old Peavey T-60 with humbuckers into a very clean steel guitar amp (session 400 Peavey). I can get really good sounds along with my TS-5 dist. and dod compressor. The unit has always sounded great until the battery is going out. Then it sounds like a dying squirrel or something.

Reliability : 7
Never had any problem with the unit except for its appetite for batteries. I never could play for more than 2-3 hours even on alkalines. Very aggravating in the middle of a song. I now have a skb pedal board and all is well. Don't rely on a battery with this one!

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had to deal with dod/digitech

Overall Rating : 9
I play everything from rock to blues to country to funky stuff. I play in a christian street band and it has never let me down. If I lost it I would probably buy a newer rack unit with longer delay times, but for what I gave its a great buy. The fullness this pedal adds has sold me on it. If you want a good reliable cheap delay this is the one. Otherwise get an effects processor.

As with most pedals, this thing is a no brainer.

Sound Quality : 8
I have always liked this pedal. It is definitely the best DOD pedal I have ever owned. The delays are pretty good although 1 second is way to short for infinite repeat (never used it anyway). The pedal sounds pretty good although the clock noise others have spoken of can be a problem at times especially with infinite repeat. Overall it is a good sounding delay - not to digital sounding. When used within reason it can make your guitar sound huge with or without distortion. I compared it to some Boss delays and felt that the DFX9 sounded fuller and colored the tone more.

Reliability : 10
The infinite repeat no longer works - no big loss. It eats batteries for breakfast lunch and dinner (and snacks on a few in between meals as well). I recommend using a wall wart.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never contacted DOD support.

Overall Rating : 8
I have been very happy with this pedal. I would not buy it again because there are so many better choices out there today. 8 years ago one's choice in pedal delays was limited.

Easy as any other delay pedal. You got Level, Repeats, and two knobs for delay times.

Sound Quality : 8
Using a '79 Strat with a Marshall JCM 900. This thing does what digital delays should do. It's very quiet and the sampling is very precise. I didn't experience any noise like some of the guys in the other reviews. Of course it's not gonna sound analog... but you knew that already. The sound is at least as good as the Boss ones. The infinite repeat setting is interesting but not very practical. I gave it an 8 because it does it's job well but isn't like the magic pedal or anything.

Reliability : 8
I've been stepping on it pretty hard for a few years and it still works like it't just out of the box. The plastic switch makes me nervous, but it hasn't gone out yet.

...don't know

Overall Rating : 8
This pedal will work for a lot of styles except maybe rootsy stuff where you want a really natural (analog) sound.
I've been playing for about 5 years or so now, and when I first started I bought a few DOD pedals including this one. I have come to the conclusion that every single DOD product is lame-o except for this one. This one does it's job extremely well and deserves a decent rating. Other DOD stuff, however, is awful. The flangers, choruses, and phasers are all amusing at best and the overdrives/distortions... forget it! I actually still use the chorus because it's all I got and it's better than nothing (barely), but I'm bitter at it everytime I turn it on. I'm getting a Fulltone Deja-Vibe in the mail any day now to replace it (oh my goodness is that a jump in quality!).
So, basically, do not buy anything that says DOD on it except for this unit which will do what it says it does.

The pedal is fairly straight forward. Much like other digital/analog delays. You got the amount of delay, time of delay, how much delay, etc/

Sound Quality : 1
I use(d) this with various Marshalls, including my DSL100 ( JCM2000 ). This pedal has been noisy since day one. My pedal outputs CLOCK noise which is very obvious in a high gain amp situation. Changing the delay time changes the clock frequency. The unit was sent back to DOD under warranty and they claimed nothing was wrong. B&^%S&^%. The clock noise was unacceptable and these things EAT batteries. It's the worst pedal I've ever bought. I replaced it with a used $99 Digitech 4000 rackmount digital delay. It's far superior.

Reliability : 2
I guess, but hell, by the end of the set, the battery would probably be dead. When it goes dead, it makes a hell of an objectionable noise.

Customer Support : 2
I sent it back. Describing in detail, the problems. They ( DOD ) claimed they couldn't hear it. I've played this with numerous amps. All you need is a amp with HIGH GAIN ( not some clean amp -- you won't hear it ) and plug it in, and engage and you will hear the clock noise.

Overall Rating : 1
I play rock. I wouldn't buy another. I think DOD makes some good products. I have a Milkbox compressor, which is the BEST compressor I've ever used! But this DFX9 ( my unit anyway ) is the biggest P.O.S. I've ever owned.

Pretty easy to use; twist the knobs to you find the setting you like. Controls for mix (Level), Delay time, repeats, and delay mode (4 settings ranging from really short to 1 sec., and one for infinite repeat).

Sound Quality : 8
Surprisingly good sounding. Delays are crisp but aren't too digital. It also doesn't destroy your tone when on like some digital pedals do. Pedal is also very transparent when switched off (I did quite a bit of A-Bing to test this). I use it with a variety of guitars through a variety of amps. It's the last item in my effects chain, and I keep it on most of the time, set for a short delay, single repeat, and about a 40% mix level. Set like this it just fattens up your guitar tone without acting as too much of an effect. I also use it with a SF Champ as a pseudo-reverb by increasing the mix a bit.

Reliability : 8
Seems like it's built pretty well other than those stupid battery doors which almost always get lost. Don't try using this pedal with a battery though; it eats them very quickly. An AC adapter is a must.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never contacted them but it does come with a warranty.

Overall Rating : 8
I gave this pedal an "8" because I think it's a great deal for the price, especially since you can pick them up cheap used. I got mine brand new for $50 at an online auction site.

Compared to the kind of stomp boxes that I am used to, it is a major pain in the ass. It may have helped if I had the manual... but it definitely isn't as easy as the other reviewers claimed. As for getting a good sound, I play a lot of rock and blues, and this petal simply isn't that useful to getting a rock and blues sound. It does help with U2 and Pink Floyde type stuff. Pair it with a chorus petal to get some really funky sounds.

Sound Quality : 5
I play a G&L Legacy and Fender strat either through a Marshall JCM 800 or a Fender Princeton Chorus. The petal gave me some cool sounds with the Princeton, but it wasn't too productive with the Marshall. I use the fender for more of the U2 type stuff. It was really quit when switching over, almost too quit. Dod petals don't have a very nice click to them. I prefer the switches on Boss petals. Overall I don't use the petal too much. If you are into blues rock, the petal is a waste of time.

Reliability : 7
I guess it is dependable... wouldn't matter if it went out during a gig cause I don't really use the thing for much. It is built pretty good. Not as tough as a Boss, but pretty tough. The battery cover broke on mine, so the battery dangles out, but I tape it in.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't ever spoken to Dod

Overall Rating : 6
I assume the other reviewers play a different type of music, so you might want to just deal with their reviews. If you play rock or blues you really don't need this thing. I guess it is good for what it does but I would save my money for a different type of distotion or another product.

The settings were easily manipulated, the manual was very comprehensive. The "Infinite Repeat" LED could be explained better.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using a Crybaby and a MT-2 as well, and this pedal is very quiet. It gets VERY noisy when the batteries are low, and it took me a while to figure out what the hell was wrong with it. You can get weird chromatic effects by twisting the delay knob with very low batteries. This is not neccesarily a good thing. 1 second is too short really for infinite repeats.

Reliability : 9
Very solid. It's heavy metal, and it was perfect when I bought it second hand. Only problems are with the battery compartment lid coming off.

Never.

Figured out how to use it immediately, but couldn't figure out how to play without delay afterwards. However, the infinite repeat takes a little messing around with to figure out how to get the right tempo.

Sound Quality : 6
Gave great delays, even when shut off! The damned thing bled like a shaving hemophiliac. Even worse, the delay pot gave off this constant sine wave which was omnipresent when distorted. And the infinite repeat mode is pretty much worthless. The repeat is dull and muddy, and has this ugly click at the end of each repeat. If the delays weren't so nice sounding, this would have been a waste of money.

Reliability : 8
I suppose I'd rely on it if I had to. If I would have kept it, I would have bought an A/B box to bypass the effect so that I could get rid of the bleed and the sine wave.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with DOD.

Overall Rating : 7
This is a great sounding delay, but it doesn't shut off. I took it back and got a Boss RV-3 Dig. Reverb/Delay instead. I'm much happier with that pedal. If this effect had a true bypass, it would have been worth keeping.

The pedal is very easy to understand. The labeling is self explanatory. This was my first experience with any form of digital delay, and I was very comfortable using it.

Sound Quality : 10
I cannot play without this pedal. When I do, my tone sounds too dry. My other effects sound great through it. I originally bought this pedal hoping to achieve a huge sound, similar to Eric Johnson's. I think that this has been the best pedal I have ever bought. It makes my tone sound as if I'm playing in a huge stadium, when I'm actually in my room.

Reliability : 10
I have had no trouble with this pedal at all. It has met and continues to meet all of my needs.

Overall Rating : 10
This pedal is good for all styles of music. It can be used for long echos, the VH cathedral effect, or just for added reverb. From guitar to amp, my setup is the following: Fender Floyd Rose Standard, DOD Supra Distortion, DOD DFX9 Digital Delay, DOD Stereo Chorus, and a Crate Vintage Club 3112 amp. The pedal does not take away from any of my effects at all. If it was stolen, I could not play until I got another one!

It's fairly easy to use, the infinite repeat is a bit of a pain in the ass. It has this annoying click at the end of the passage and you can only get off 2 or 3 notes before they start to run togeater and sound like crap. But you can get a cool effect play playing something noisey, turning on the infinity repeat and messing with the delay time.
