Not too difficult. I own the manual, but it is not really needed to learn how to operate the pedal, if it is too tricky to operate ... perhaps you shouldnt be trying to use the delay to begin with. However it does take about 30mins to an hour of playing to figure it all out

I own two of these nice little stomp boxes. I own a dark blue one and a green blue one. The darker blue on has a more lush sound, almost analog... better than any other mass production pedals I have heard, atleast digital. The green-blue on has a more metallic sounding, but it adds a certain color to the sound anyways, but not as warm. Hence the rating of an 8. But the infinite repeat function is nice, and you can add sound while playing which is nice... over all for the prices I got them for cant beat the performance... as mentioned before repeats only being as loud as the orginal is a down fall but who cares. the delay trails off well also. I perfer to use two of these in my chain rather than a memory man, and it is more versitale than the EH memory man deleuxe ....only thing I would perfer to have that sounded better is the akai headrush.

Well here is the problem no major problems with the pedals build quality , however the lighter green blue verison doesnt like batteries and when played for about 30 mins will turn off and pass no signal, and make a horrid sound.. so power adapters recommended

Well for the styles I play these pedals can do alot, but I do have a rather complex chain going... I have looked around for stuff , and own other delays, but I like these alot. Like I said only mass production pedal I would want outside of these is the akai headrush...If stolen I would probably buy another pair because they are cheap at the moment.. I imagine if people realize these are good pedals they will go up in price but right now.. no one wants them.. So if you have the money to throw down, pick one up, its worth trying out. I wish they both sounded the same, but however they dont.... Def. helps in the music creation process... I have been playing for awhile right now playing a 1965 fender mustang--> dynacomp--->boss ds-1---> dallas arbiter fuzz face--> eh electric mistress---> small clone---> volume pedal---> dod dfx94 blue one---> microverb iv or various reverb units----> dod dfx94---> Sunn beta lead

Somewhat trickier than what I'd expect from a single stompbox, couldn't be bothered to wait for DOD to email me with a manual so I just got my head around the thing by tinkering. I still think triggering/recording with the infinite repeat function requires more than one footswitch, like the Digitech PDS delays.

As the unit comes stock, its a good digital delay with a warmer sound than the usual Boss digital stuff (I've tried DD-3 and DD-6). Nice repeat trails, shame you can't have the delays louder than the original signal.
Favourite features: firstly one I've not found on other delay pedals outside of the DFX series which is on infinite repeat mode you can adjust the speed of the sample over and over without any obvious degredation of the quality. Most other delays get out of control with more than a few twists. Secondly as a few others have mentioned, constantly retriggering the sample while changing delay time also produces unique effects. With these features in mind, I'd rate the stock pedal as a 7.
But I need to point out my pedal is no longer stock. I have opened my DFX94 and adjusted the trim pots found on the PCB (there are 3). This has allowed me to take the maximum delay/sample time to 6 seconds, and when the repeat knob is set past 3 oclock changes the behaviour of the delay: it now distorts and oscillates all over the place when I want it to. When set to six seconds the delay sample quality is a little more edgy and grainy.
For most players I expect adjusting it so the quality is lower and so it can oscillate more doesn't make a lot of sense. As I'm into a lot of ambient/gaze/noise playing these features appeal to me: lofi sounding delays that can make a lot of noise, guitar-based or otherwise, are very useful. It can be used now as a standard good-quality digital delay, or pushed over its limits to create some crazy sounds. Hence it gets a 9.

Don't like that footswitch much. Don't think its the sort of pedal I'd gig with in a rock band context, though I might if I was doing a more experimental gig. Never had troubles with DOD pedals in the past, not really one to attack my floorboard.

Never bothered with them... this pedal is second hand anyway. I wouldn't mind a look at the manual but I doubt it would be much help.

I play a lot of styles, most things outside of jazz (both kinds of R&B, soul, funk, hiphop, rock, folk, pop). This is a great match, it can do straight up or more unusual delay sounds when needed.
I've been playing seven years and I'm still no flash player by any means. I change my rig almost as often as I change my underwear, heres a few of the more prominant things I've owned and used: Fender Twins (old blackfaces, non-MV silverfaces, MV silverfaces, reissues including the current 2-channel version I own), 2 Marshall JMP halfstacks (late 70s), Orange Rockerverb 100 halfstack, Vox AC30s (most kinds), '77 Gibson LP Standard, '66 Gibson SG Junior, '94 Gibson LP Special Doublecut (my current main instrument), '01 Gibson SG Standard, Liberty ES-335 copy, Tanglewood TW-900 acoustic, various Fender Strats and Teles, Watkins Copicats (own a varispeed), Roland Tape Echos (RE-201, RE-301, RE-501) all the Boss GT multi effect units (GT-8 I currently own, the best one so far), other Boss: MT-2, CH-1, PH-2, DD-6, OD-1, OD-2, OD-3... so much more its a chore to list. I'm seldom satisfied with my sound.
I'm going through a phase of collecting delays (already more fun than my phase of collecting distortion pedals) so unless I found something able to do the three or four quite unique things I like about it I'd probably replace it, if stolen or lost.
Anything I wish it had? Two footpedals instead of one, to make sample/hold features much easier to use without having to constantly adjust the pedals controls. Helps me make music, or noise, depending on my mood that day and/or whats required for a certain piece of music. Thumbs up.

fine for screwing around but NOT EASY for developing ideas. Be warned, even with a manual, this is the horse & buggy of sampling. It's basically just a delay with a very tiny memory and recall, and on top of it the sound is, well ... not great at all. given current sampling devices, this does very little and not much of it very well.

I CAN'T BELIEVE this thing OR the dfx92 (i've owned and used both) get ANY good reviews. The sound quality is not at all up to today's standards and BOTH models failed working eventually. The foot switch is exceptionally poor, the worst thing ever in a time-based unit!
It does introduce noise, even when bypassed. It's sampling is very junky, lifeless, degraded, kind of like an answering machine, not "singing" sounds at all. The delay is kind of like a bad phone connection, when you hear yourself talking a couple seconds later but muffled and grating. It's a mess.
It's so old and cheaply made, I can't give it a zero, so 3 it is.

This is not a very usable piece of gear, and I can usually find a place for anything. It's just sucky. It's not a good sampler, NOT easy to use, and the delay is going somewhere in history for it's bad repeats.
Stay away. There's just SO many better things for affordable prices that do MUCH more MUCH, MUCH better.

Just got mine two days ago. The delay is good, but I'm not too picky about that aspect.
Okay, folks, here's what I've been doing with this pedal practically nonstop since I got it: Just turn the first three knobs up all the way, then turn the selector switch to the "INF RPT" mode. When both lights are on, then it is just playing, not recording. But step on the switch and everything you do to your guitar gets recorded on infinite loop. With the delay knob turned all the way up, you get approximately four seconds of looping. Unfortunately, in order to control how long the loop is you have to bend down and turn the delay knob. No Start/Stop switching available. (Note: every time another layer is added, the others drop in volume a little bit, even if you aren't playing anything, so if you want it to keep repeating without volume change, step on the switch and make sure both LEDs are on and just step on the switch again to record another layer.) It's a little hard to get the timing just right, and it probably wouldn't work in a live situation except for ambient background noise, but I've found that after a while of messing around with the pedal constantly sampling i can get the timing dead on.
So far, I've had a lot of fun just playing with this feature. The recording of a single measure and triggering it to play isn't too hard either, it just takes more knob turning.

Sounds good to me. Certainly not "pristine" repeats, but unless you're recording with it, you'd barely notice the difference. Sounds as good as my friend's boomerang near as I can tell, just less you can do with it.

The delay part is easy, but sampler/trigger/infinite repeat is trickier. I used to only use the sampler for fake drum beat, percussive style loops, but it takes some time. Better for atmospheric, abstract style as of late. eats batteries, you should get an adapter.

Fender Japanese Strat through a Fender Bandmaster head, homemade 1x12 cabinet, Boss SD1 super overdrive. Haven't noticed much noise except it used to have a cycle-type hum that eventually disappeared, maybe I reversed the prongs on the adapter I was using. Sample sounds are really good, even when you change the pitch! The Boss sampler I have doesn't hold a candle to the sound quality. I love it. as for delay, it's great. never tried an analog pedal, but I like the character of the sounds and digital holds up better for synching up anyway.

I just spent 2 hours fixing it today after it powered up but no sound would come through. I opened it up, found a loose wire and braided the wire back because I didn't have a soldering iron. It's back and running (realized how much I missed it!), but I should probably reopen it and have it soldered back before a gig.

I play all kind of music, and it matches me great. Pros: nice warm, clean delay and samples, intuitive once you get used to it, pretty solid, decent looking. Cons-eats batteries, don't think they make it anymore, may be noisy with certain combinations. If it were stolen I'd casually look for another, or just get a regular delay.

OK, folks...you have to spend some time with this one. There are pedals that are designed for one-eyed dyslexic monkeys, and there are pedals designed for super-intelligent cyborg monkeys. This pedal doesn't really fall into the latter category, but if you don't work on this one a little bit, it might as well be. It's not exactly intuitive, and some of the controls are a little unorthodox...at least to me they are. The sampler is kind of tough to use, or would be in a live situation. I did do this once, but I didn't know how to use it the right way and the results were less than spectacular.

Right now, I'm using as minimal a signal chain as I can. Teles and Strats through some Fender and Vox amps, with a TS-9 reissue primarily. Other pedals come and go, but this is the mainstay.
This pedal isn't bad. The sampler is kind of cool. It's tough to get the timing down on it though, at least for me it was. It's digital, no doubt about that, but I could see this being a really good, cheapish sampler for someone who was looking for one. Overall, I think the delay is a little on the weak side. It sounds a lot more "digital" than other digital delays I've encountered. It does the job, but isn't really stunning. On the plus side, it can go up to four seconds....a good amount of range if you ask me. I think that the sampler kind of requires that amount of time anyway.

This looks to be made very well. DOD pedals kind of get a bad rap, because Boss does such a good job, but I think that this pedal is at least within shooting distance of build-quality. The plastic footswitchy thing seems ok if you don't go after too badly.

I don't really play anything that would make delay an essential part of my setup. If anything, I use a delay pedal sometimes for slapback, and this pedal only goes down to 250 ms, which is not quite enough (I like a very quick slap with more reverb than echo). It's definitely a great pedal for getting creative with. Like I said, I don't know well you would fair trying to do samples on the fly in a live situation, but it would certainly be cool in the studio. Tone and sound quality are very subjective things. This mofo might do it for you in the delay arena, but it just doesn't work for me. I don't use delay that much anyway, so it's very much expendable in that sense. If someone stole it, I would still hope that they got punished to full extent of the law, and I might even come to like the pedal more just because some ramrod swiped it from me. You know, something to get me even more riled up about.
Anyway, I wouldn't discourage anyone from buying this pedal at all. If the price is right, it could be a steal. Just try it out with some others (you should be doing that anyway...you know you're grandma wouldn't care how nice it sounded unless you could confirm to her you AB'd it with a DD-3 and a Memory Man first, and that you won't have to sweep floors at the barber shop longer than a week to pay for it). I'll give it a seven overall, taking into consideration that I have very little use for it, though it might cool in someone elses hands.

sound quality sucks...I say that in a pitying and condescending way. Major loss of sound quality when plugged in. It wasn't the battery because I replaced it about four times and it wasn't the cables because plugged into the amp it was as loud as ever. Maybe I got the reject, but any pedal that the amp needs to be turned the whole way up before its heard needs to be shoved up DOD's hindquarters.

How hard can pedals ever be? Yet this is one of the tougher ones, but not at all challenging if you read the manual. The sampling/triggering effect is tricky, and the thing I don't like is that you have to bend down and switch from sample mode to trigger mode after you've entered your line, but hey you can't have it all. I mostly use it on infinite repeat, and again I'll complain that there's no way to ever turn that off once you've soloed your heart out over the endless loop. You just have to let the loop play in recording position without touching a note. But otherwise, those are my gripes- this thing is easy to use if you're looking for delay, infinite delay, and if you read the book sampling.

I play a Washburn strat (don't remember the name) with a nice big humbucker in the back. This is last in my line of effects after an Ibanez Echomachine into a Crybaby. The EM5 is around primarily because the digital delay sounds just don't cut it for the psychedelic hippie delay sound we all love. But I use this for the infinite delay, and it rawk rawk rawks! at that. There's no complaints from me whatsoever other than if you turn the delay all the way down to fastest it will shriek like a banshee on my amp. But it's not that noticeable- it's nowhere near what my guitar feeds back from just my fingers on the strings. Not a problem! The loops stay clear forever too, or at least for as long as you'd ever possibly want to leave one in there. It takes a little bit of time to get the hang of putting a loop in without a click or scratchy noise, but those noises are coming from the pedal. The delay sounds are good too, but if you're looking for true delay try analog. This is what you would expect from a good digital delay- sharp and shrill and cold. But who could complain with 4 seconds of delay???
Reliability
:

Yeah, it's reliable. Use an adapter!! As does any pedal I've ever seen, it starts to sound like a whole herd of dental drills when the battery gets low. I even put in a fresh battery when i first got it and there was still noise present. But as the manual exhorts, don't throw it from the moving vehicle yet- get an adapter!!!! Otherwise, this thing is only below the crybaby in its similarity to a tank. You can jump on it or drop it and it's fine. The knobs wiggled loose on mine, but that's ok.

This is good stuff. I bought it off here, so I didn't get to preview, but it has definitely enhanced my playing. Endless loops can be fun!! I wouldn't recommend this for the delay features- spend half as much money and get an analog if you want warm delay. But this thing is great for enhancing any kind of jam. You can become many many guitarists all at once, subtly or loudly. And four seconds of delay is more than anyone will ever need!!

Pretty easy to use as far as delays go. 4 nobs which control level, repeats, delay time, and mode. Easy even though you have 4 seconds of delay and sampling in this box. With sampling, you select the sample mode and how much time you want the sample to be for, hit the switch, and then either put it one infinte repeat or trigger mode. Trigger is great, you can simulate record stop/starts with i- it- i- it- i-- i- it. (he, he) Just a little trouble with getting a new sample up without the old one starting again, but you get used to it and it gets pretty easy. FUN!

Great delay. Only problem is that you can just braely hear the delay cycle when the pedal if off (if you twist the delay nob you can here the pitch shift), but that might be fixed by using an adapter, I think it is from the battery being low. I use customized strat copies or an Eko semi-hollow body into a DOD Fx40b Eq, Boss AW-2 (sometimes), Small Stone, Big Muff, Digitech Xp300, then this into a Fender Bandmaster Reverb. I am sure that the gate on the Xp300 would clear up that bleed, through I rather have it after to delay the ring modulator.

I play all different styles of music, rock, blues, jazz, classical, etc. I can always find a use for it, from enhancing the music to working on timing. The pedal has up to 4 seconds of infinite delay, so you can play a short chord progession or bass line and play over it, which is very helpful for practicing alone or when you need an extra musician. This is the best delay pedal I know of, and the only thing I wish it had is a way to make the delay notes louder than the ones being played.

I'm using a 78 Les Paul Custom and a Marshall JTM312 combo. The delay is very quiet, although the sound quality does degrade somewhat on longer delay settings and on sample or loop mode. I mainly use it for slapback and it works well for the application. One very big complaint on this unit however. When used in the effects loop of my amplifier, if the preamp volume is set full up, the input of the delay will overload and create a horrible distortion. Not the musical kind, I mean the blowing up, farty, "I'm gonna cough a transistor" type of distortion. This occurs whether the effect is engaged or not. It's just an equipment imcompatability problem, really not the fault of the effect.

Good sound; fairly easy to get used to... Sampling is a little more difficult, but still no problem... Manual not as informative as Boss manuals, but this pedal can be figured out with no trouble...

Makes some weird little hummy noises, but still pretty quiet... The biggest problem is that when you click it off, there still seems to be a very quiet delay with the same repeat, delay, and range settings... I like the sampling capabilities a lot, as they make it a very versatile pedal. You can even record feedback with it and modify the pitch using the delay knob...

I would probably buy this pedal again just because it is the most versatile delay pedal on the market due to its 4-second time and sampling capabilities. Overall a very good pedal, but it would be nice if they reduced the noise...

The straight delay modes are pretty easy to use. Just set the knobs until you get the sound you want. The sampling mode took a little while to figure out, but once you get the hang of it, the pedal is pretty easy to use. The manual is pretty handy, but you'll get the most out of it by just playing around with it.

The sound quality is decent. It uses 12-bit sampling, which produces pretty decent sound. The sample and infinite repeat feature sound kay, but you'll notice that the shorter delay settings give you even better sound quality. It is absolutely quiet. No buzzing, pops, or other problems. The sound does not degrade with longer repeats. It sounds good.

Can definatly rely on this unit. Like all DOD pedals, it is built in a die-cast box. I would use it on a gig without backup, but I need to practice the timing of the infinite repeat before I do, though. The manaul states that batteries will last about 4 hours. I don't care. I use rechargable 9-volts with no problems.

I think it's a great pedal and would recommend it to anyone looking either for a delay effect or infinite repeat. I bought it mainly to help me practice playing lead guitar. I sample a short rythm and play to it. The pedal samples for 4 seconds, the most I've seen so far in a delay pedal. This is my fourth pedal I bought from DOD. For the money and functionalily, I don't think you can do better anywhere else. This unit was compared to BOSS pedals, but BOSS only samples for 2 seconds and costs a lot more. Zoom makes a sound processor that also samples 4 up to seconds, but has presets, not knobs. I like knobs because I find that presets limit me. Besides, you can really STOMP on a DOD pedal and not worry about it falling apart, especially on stage. If you're thinking about a delay pedal, go for the DOD!

The only noise problem that I have found with the DFX94 is an annoying click at the end of creating an infinte loop. This is most noticeable when layering parts over one another(usually if you don't click out on the "one" beat of the "sample)

I looked EVERYWHERE for some sort of delay/sampling/looping pedal with more than 2 seconds of sampling time. This has 4 seconds sampling/looping time! Ithink it's the next best thing to a Jam-Man (Much cheaper too!)
