This unit is EASY to operate: no complex menus, patches. Its a very 80s tech device. Just twist knobs until you get good sounds.

I dont have a manual for it, but downloaded one from the Internet. It is not much help because the D3 is so easy to use.

Sound Quality : 9
The D3 sounds great! I have two of them in a shared bay with a power strip. I have heard of the hummmm issues and noise and this device does not play well with other devices. This may be true, but just before I was totally defeated, I played around with routing connections between the two D3s and came up with a usable quiet solution. I also had to fiddle with the knobs (input/outputs on both units).
So, with that, YOU CAN WORK TWO D3 UNITS TOGETHER AND GET GREAT RESULTS. I am using the two with a AOR Laney amp with a preamp pedal. Now I can get two effects at the same time with the D3.

How does it sound when you only have 1? GREAT. quiet, does not suck tone out of your amp. I of course am using this in the FX loop and not before the amplifier input. Since this is a pure delay device, it makes perfect sense to use this as an FX loop device.

I liked this cheap little FX unit enough to have snagged another one as soon as I found one on eBay.

Reliability : 8
Used mine for a number of years without a hitch. The only thing is it uses a wallwart (like an amature rack box). Not only that, it is 9v AC instead of 9VDC, which is all but impossible to find at your local Radio Shack if the cheap little wallwart dies.

Customer Support : 8
Never deal with DOD: I assume they back up their products.

Overall Rating : 9
I like to play everything from Robert Cray cleantone and country hippy guitar to extream deathmetal chainsaw noise. The D3 works great in every category.
With so many FX processors out there, it is truely hard to find one that does not hijack your tone and turn your guitar and amp into an artificial crappy tone box. I hear my expensive tunes and 1500 dollar guitar through the D3.

I do dislike the wallwart: I think a better power supply would have been nice.

I trust this FX unit enough to want another one, as it is not loaded up with lots of cheezy amp-modeling crap: just signal processing and control over the input/output gain. Works great as a preamp, and better as a FX loop delay unit.

Its supposed to work for vocals, too (never tried it).

If this unit was stolen, I would be pissed, but rest assured that I can find one on eBay for less than 50.00 bucks delivered.

I can think of nothing else under 100 bucks I would want. It is a different animal than my Vamp-II and Bass Vamp-Pro, or Line6 POD. This is JUST signal conditioning FX, and if you want to add to your tone and not loose it, try one of these.

i guess it came out a couple years ago... i was in a local music shop a few months ago when i bumped into this unit on a table marked "Greatly Reduced Items." i asked the guy how much, he says "eh, 20 bucks?" so i says "Deal." i guess it had gotten lost in the back of the store years ago, and they found it while getting ready to move. it had now power supply and it was a pain in the ass to find one, but i just needed something to fill the empty space in my rack.

Ease of Use : 8
Very easy to use if you spend 30 minutes with the manual while goofing around with the settings. It's pretty straight forward and predictable in terms of the knobs doing what they indicate.

Sound Quality : 9
I am primarily using this for bass guitar, with the following setup: '75 ReIssue Fender Jazz (stock vintage style pickups) -> Rocktron Gainiac (tube preamp) -> DoD Dimension 3 -> Hartke HA4000 -> Hartke VX410 & Kustom 1x15

The HUM or NOISE that the other reviewer commented on is definitely present because of some design (flaw in my mind). This hum was removed by using "humfrees" which isolate the rack from other components. The touching of the other components was causing a "ground loop" with this eliminated the unit is silent!

The effects are not at all weak, in fact are VERY pronounced. I have owned many DoD effects pedals and have always been dissappointed with the signal strength and quality of sound, this far exceeded my expectations.

I purchased this unit primarily for the reverb, but have been so impressed with the chorus and tremolo that I am now looking for another reverb unit. The reverb on this is very typical of digital reverbs. I have to say that this unit is MUCH better than the Alesis NanoVerb and MultiVerbs that I have owned in the past.

Reliability : 8
I can't speak for the reliability, but if it is similar to the pedals that I have owned in the past, I am sure that a backup will not be necessary.

I primarily play blues/r&b style rock with a hint of funk. I bought this unit for gigs where I needed a little more character to my tone. I've been playing for about 12 years and have finally gone into the world of rack gear (slowly) and really like this new addition to my sound. I would certainly seek one of these out if this were lost/destroyed or stolen!

Easy for preset and forget. dial up no patches and no manual (gee I'm totally baffled, no on switch). A friend got it in an auction without manual or wall wart or an on switch. I found a phat barreled adapter, you can fake the book, the on switch still confounds me!

Sound Quality : 9
I got all kinds of crap, But I'm currently using it with my guitar. i experienced "the noise" It doesn't want to play well with others in a rack (grounding issues). I'm working on that. Well anyhow I run a Gibson Les Paul or Es347 or a early Squire Strat wiff Seymour Duncans to Rack w/Juice Goose to Nady Wireless XR 61 to Korg Dt-1 Pro tuner out to Crybaby to Big Muff Pi to Sunn Model T(2 channel, 120 watts) out to pedalboard w/Electra Pedal Driver, Ibanez DE7 delay/echo to Ibanez FL301Dx flanger to infamous Dod Dimension3 back to rack to BBE sonic Maximizer411 back to Sunn Amp to 2 Peavey 5150 412 cabinets. the key to the noise maybe turning dowm otput level on Dimension3 I Play live as much as possible and may use this setup for recording, along with other toys. By the way, this setup sounds awesome regardless of what styles you play. I've only been playing since 1966. Hendrix Floyd Alice (out of chains) Stevie Ray Rush Police Beatles Steely Dan Wardell Brown ZZTop MC5 ACDC Lynard Skynard Zappa Stone Temple Pilots Arc Angels all the greats! Pitch shifter set for high 5th gives excellant Queen. Excellant chorus reverb ect. not a multi effect and no distortion but a good all around stereo effect

Reliability : 9
It works well in any senerio, but seems to need it own rack. sorry idon't leave the house without backup. can't get paid for tuning or doing the tangled cord dance get it togeather Broters and Sisters

Simply, equipment in this price range would be is easier to replace. never dealt with any company

Just a few knobs, no Display, how easy can it be?

Sound Quality : 8
Quite good sound quality, can't agree to the guy below who said it would make noise, perhaps he should try to set the knobs properly ;)
The Reverbs are nice, from light reverb to the biggest hall it's all there

Reliability : 8
This is meant to be placed in a rack, so you don't step on it and throw it around, think it's enough reliable

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with Dod, but it now belongs to Digitech, no idea about the support

Overall Rating : 9
I use this one for my little homerecording-studio and it has all effects you need (although only one effect at a time) in quite good quality... You don't need years to understand and use it, so for quick effects there's nothing better ;)

How easy can it get? Just select one of the 16 effects and dial it up.
There are 8 different reverb types but also stereo or mono delay, chorus, flange, phase shift, tremolo/pan and pitch detune.
There are two paramaters that can be tuned each effect.
Very easy indeed.

Sound Quality : 9
The sound quality is very well. I use the unit with my pc soundcard, a Korg electribe-A and a Spirit Notepad. The effects color my monophonic tribe and give new life to the cheesy sounds of my pc audio card.
I think the unit isn't as noisy as the other guy says, just tune the input and output levels correctly.
The price/quality combination concerning this unit is excellent, I think it's meant for bedroom studio's and part-time users.
I DO miss a nice overdrive or distortion on it.

Reliability : 7
I don't gig so I don't really need a kind of tank. The building quality is a bit poor, the metal is thin......
I don't really care because it just lays under the Korg anyways and holds just fine. You don't need to take it on a trip to the mount everest do you?

I haven't got a clue

I think the dimension 3 offers great quality for such a price. Guys like me who make music for themselves in their bedroom studio or smaller setup will really enjoy the DOD. It colors your sounds in a smooth way and is very easy to use. That's why I chose for the dimension 3.....It's easy to use. No small two digit displays on wich you have to edit. This unit is hands-on.
I try make Aphex twin style techno and ambient. He uses a lot of reverb and I can do that as well very easily with the DOD. There is no midi, just a basic layout with 6 turning knobs on the front panel. As said it's a bit disappointing that there's no overdrive but all in all it's a great unit.
I mean it is a 24 bit, digital, stereo effects processor.

This unit is very easy to use, and easy to patch in to just about anything. The manual is short but thorough, and in about 3 minutes most everyone will have mastered this unit.

Sound Quality : 2
Now here's what sucks about this unit. It's noisy. I don't mean the "if you strain you can hear a faint hiss in the background" kind of noisy. I mean it sounds like a jet engine is being mic'd up with a Shure SM-57 kind of noisy. I was very disappointed in the noise level and the hum that is caused from the 'wall wart'. Not to mention the fact that the wall wart eats up two spaces on the power strip in the back of the rack. All of the settings on the unit produce a 60-120 cycle hum, most likely caused by the wall wart power supply. The only two settings that you can stand the hum on, and that's just for a moment, are the 'studio' reverb, and the pitch shift.
For the record, I'm using this unit on one of the auxilary channels of a Mackie 1604VLZ mixer, and the other effects used in the rack are a Roland digital delay, Nady EQ's and Compressors, and Ashley compressors, and a Carvin XP2 digital effects. The DOD unit makes more noise than all the other effects combined. It's really NOT for any kind of professional situation. Maybe a garage band, but nothing pro or even semi-pro.

Reliability : 2
The unit is made of cheap, thin metal that can be bent with the pressure of a girl scout's little finger. I would not depend on this unit at a gig, and it's too noisy to use in any recording. The power supply is a wall wart that has an extremely thin cord that goes from the wart to the unit, and it is easily broken.

Haven't used the support.

I've been playing rock and hard rock cover and original music for over 19 years. I've put together 4 huge PA and lighting systems and used every imaginable effect known to man. I was even doing this before there were any 'digital' effects. This D3 unit is absolutely the worst effect that I've ever owned. I wouldn't buy it again if it were stolen. In fact, I'd pay a thief to steal it out of the rack. Or at least take him to dinner. If you need a cheap effect box, don't get this one. It only does one effect at a time, and it isn't for anyone that's been playing over a month. For about 30-50 bucks more, you can get a much better effect unit from just about any retailer.

All Knobs, No LCDs to worry about. The manual is only a few pages long but this thing is really easy to use anyway. I could have easily used it without a manual. It's got a little parameter index thing ON the unit that tells what the knobs do for each effect so you will have no trouble using it

Sound Quality : 9
I bought this unit for the Pitch Shift effect and I run it throuh a distortion pedal after the D3.
Mic--->D3--->Distortion Box--->P.A. Mixer
I would say it does exactly need it to. I have tried the other effects and the reverbs and delays are great. The other effects are probably a 7 out of 10.

Reliability : 10
Never had a problem with it. I would and DO gig without a backup

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with DOD

Overall Rating : 10
This unit costs about the same amount as the Boss PS-3, the pedal that I was thinking of buying. It does the Pitch Shift that I wanted perfectly and it also does a heap of other effects well. Great deal for the money. The only letdown for some people might be that you can only do one effect at a time. That isn't an issue for me due to the fact that I just use the Pitch Shift. If you do Industrial music, and want good vocal effects, get this box and a distortion pedal. That's what I do and I can get a pretty "demonic" sound out of it.
