Pretty easy to use... step on it and it turns on. Step on it again it turns off... That is, when it wants to. Sometimes it wouldn't turn on. Other times it wouldn't turn off.

Sound Quality : 3
The only sound that came as a result of this pedal was me screaming, FIND THE NOTE! FIND THE NOTE!

Reliability : 1
The only thing I would rely on this to do is suck, and drive you out of your mind. This thing turns the simple act of tuning your guitar into pure hell. I think mine was possessed or something.

Customer Support : 1
I called them to find out why this thing sucked so much. I ended up being put on hold. While I was on hold they played demos of their effects pedals. Guess what, the guy was out of tune.

Overall Rating : 1
I bought this at my local guitar store before my band's first gig. I figured it would be a good idea to have a floor tuner. This was the only floor tuner that they carried. When I took it up to the counter the owner of the store took one look at it and said "awesome". I thought he was talking about my choice in tuners. Little did I know that he was talking about the fact that he'd never have to look at this piece of garbage again. Unfortunately I was stupid enough to bring this thing to the gig after having a hell of a time with it at home. After the first few songs I tried it out again and ended up having to tune my guitar to the song that they started playing on the jukebox because they got tired of waiting for us to start playing again. I put this thing up on ebay the next day and ordered a Boss TU-2 the next day, and have been happy ever since.

I had this pedal a few years ago, and I actually had a nightmare that I had it onstage with me last night, which prompted me to check the HC reviews for fun and, lo and behold, everyone else hated it too! I guess I am psychic.

Sound Quality : 1
No sound should ever be run thru this piece of dogshit. Like everyone else said, why it was allowed to leave the factory is just one of those musical equipment mysteries that will live on in the souls and nightmares of those who actually paid money for it.

Reliability : 1
Fully reliable in that it never once worked. No crapshoot here!

Customer Support : 1
I threw the goddamned thing out-- after I broke it open and mangled the guts so no one else would be stuck with it.

Overall Rating : 1
Yes I really got suckered into buying this at Sam Ash when the idiotic sales guy had to blow these out the door. I should have gotten the Boss, which I did get after trying to coax a tuned guitar out of this thing for a few weeks. I also bought a rackmount Korg which is like the Heavens opening up and shining light on my guitar compared to the Purgatoried dreck that the Tuna pedal made me wade through.

Put in the battery, plugged the guitar in it, looped it to the amp and had sound.
So far so good.

Sound Quality : 10
The pedal doesn't ruin the guitar sound, so that's good as well.

Reliability : 1
I was deeply, deeply ashamed first time i tried to tune my guitar with it (it's a f***ng tuner). After 10 minutes of me trying and 4 bandmates laughing i just stood there with a guitar that sounded like -*/-*/.
Had to tune it by ear.

After that i tried it a few times, new batteries, even with an adapter, but nope, never once worked.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't dealt with the company. But if they answer phones like this pedal responds in tuning, then it will be horrible.

Overall Rating : 1
This must be the worst thing ever made.
I always figured DOD had a good series of pedals, but with this one, they completely ruined it for me.
How hard can it be to make a pedal that actually works?

easy. but what good does ease do you if it DOESN'T WORK...AT ALL!

Sound Quality : No Opinion
with this pedal, you might be able to acheive that killer out-of-tune sound you crave.

might sound good if close-mic'd under the crushing might of my wrathful fist.

Reliability : 1
I don't think I have ever, in a lifetime as a consumer, bought anything that so plainly DID NOT WORK. I mean, it worked in the sense that it turned on and seemed to be 'hearing' notes, but was erratic and erroneous and showed no evidence of any merit.

I'm amazed that DOD actually let this product out of their factory. I've tried a couple since selling mine just to see if I got a lemon. Nope. Cheaper than a Boss, and very effective as an ugly paperweight, but utterly useless as a guitar tuner. I immediately sold mine on consignment at a music store and still feel guilty about passing on the curse to the next sucker. I should have drowned it in a sack.

I know you're supposed to write "Built Like A Tank" and "Cleans Up Great When You Roll Back On Your Guitar's Volume Knob" in every review, so there you go.

Customer Support : No Opinion
DOD kind of lost me as a potential customer when they started giving inane names to their pedals and, worse, REALLY inane names to their pedals' knobs' functions. I would have to overcome some serious FX12 Tuna skepticism before spending any dollars on a new DOD product.

Overall Rating : 1
I've been playing professionally for eight years and have tried a lot of pedals over the past 15 years or so. Generally speaking, even if I don't love a pedal, I keep it. I have a closet full of neglected pedals and it always seems like I cycle back to wanting to try one again.

With that in mind, remember that I sold the FX12 the same day I bought it.

On...Off...As long as you know what note you're going for it's easy.

Sound Quality : 6
I don't notice any loss in sound, though times it decides that instead of being a guitar tuner, it is going to be a home audio tuner. This has only happened a few times, but the radio signal came through quite excellent. Do they make home audio tuners?

Reliability : 6
Short of the radio frequencies it works. If you play a show, tune before you go on stage. Keep it up there and if you have to tune, I suggest adding the drum solo from In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida into your playlist. Get a second guitar and make somebody off stage keep it tuned and switch off if anything. Or buy a Boss.

Ease of Use : 2
Easy to use? Sure, except it never works - so 'easy' is true, but frustrating is the also true.

Sound Quality : 7
It doesn't let any hum through, only a slight pop when going to silent mode.

Reliability : 2
NO NO AND NO - Run from this pedal screaming to the hills.

1) While sometimes it does a pretty good job at at least finding the pitch that your guitar is tuning, it is absolutely NEVER right when the cents come into play. Most of my notes I tuned with this thing after spending a ton of time getting it to talk to me were wrong.

2) This pedal does not do a good job with running any power through it.. it order to use it, you have to kill your volume switch to almost nothing, at which time it will be a slow, inaccurate tuner.

Customer Support : 3
Never had any experience with them. It was my bad for buying this pedal without researching it first.

Overall Rating : 2
I've tried this thing through all kinds of gear and it still does not impress me. Trust me, spend the extra money on a Korg or Boss stage tuner and save yourself A LOT of hassle and heartache.

I noticed no discernable signal loss when I played through it.

Somehow this pedal fell apart while I WASN'T USING IT. A very poor build quality. Not only would I not use it without a backup, I wouldn't use it AS a backup! Get a BOSS.

I've been playing guitar and bass semi-professionally for over 20 years. As tuners go, this is the worst I've experienced. I have a little 10 dollar Korg that works better than this. This pedal wishes it was a BOSS TU-2, so just save yourself the trouble and get one of those.

Ease of Use : 5
Yes, it is easy to use. Don't be deceived by this rating, though. You step on it, it's on. You step on it again, well, it might be on, or it might be off, depending on the weather, presence of sunspots on the sun, electromagnetic interference from UFO's, whatever.

Sound Quality : 1
Let's just be right upfront about it: This Damn Thing Never Worked Right. You want details? OK, here we go. It took far too long to find the note. When it did find the note, there was no guarantee that it was telling you the truth; I found myself tuned sharp/flat of the REAL note, many many times. The switch was erratic at best. There were times when it would come on, times when it wouldn't come on, times when it came on and wouldn't turn off, and of course the times when I was trying to use it and it suddenly decided to take a nap, so I had to turn to the bass player and say "Hit me an E, will you?" and just tuned by ear. Nothing I did to help it seemed to make a difference; it performed equally poorly when there was a battery in it or when it was plugged in via adapter.

Reliability : 1
I am not a pedal abuser. That being said it wouldn't have mattered if I was, because many times the thing didn't work at all anyway. When it did work, it was completely erratic. Dependable? I could depend on it to screw up my effects setup. Did I use it on a gig without a backup? Yes, I did, and I ended up stopping the gig and unplugging the damn thing and removing it from the pedal chain.

Customer Support : No Opinion
DOD is a decent company, but I just didn't have the time or the money to deal with sending this back to them. I have dealt with them in the past and they're pretty cool, but in this case I didn't bother.

Overall Rating : 1
This is a wretched, awful piece of garbage. I actually got rid of this by deliberately leaving it at a gig. When I was breaking down my gear I left it at the end of the stage, packed up the rest of my stuff and walked out the door. Goodbye, farewell. It's possible that it could be a good doorstop or paperweight, or possibly something you could use to break into a car or hit somebody with, depending on what kind of person you are. It was a nice heavy chunk of metal, which is about the best thing that I could say about it.

Since I abandoned it, I have been using an Arion HU-8500 stage tuner with a broken battery door that is around 15 years old. It works better and is far more reliable, and it gives me the right note in the right tuning every time. No, I am not kidding, I swear. The Arion is the best onstage tuner I've ever had and I'm buying another one.

Please avoid this alleged "tuner" at all costs. It's completely useless.

didn't notice it colouring my sound when i plugged in and played through it...click off and killed the signal like it should...so i guess this section gets a ten only cuz of technicalities

Reliability : 1
never worked for my practices or my shows. it was embarrasing to even try to get it to work w/ other people around. it was honestly a piece of shit. and i'm glad i got rid of it, even though i paid 35 bucks for it. i think i left it on the hood of my car when i went to sell it to some used gear place...of course it fell off when i was on the freeway or something...i didn't really care. it got the death it deserved

Ease of Use : 6
The manual was minimal, which was appropriate; it's a simple tool. It is easy to use--when it works. After not using it for several years, I just broke it out at a gig last week and to my surprise, it worked fine. Read on.

Sound Quality : 7
I used to use a small rack with a Sabine rack tuner, which was a great no-bullshit unit. When I got rid of that setup, I missed having an LED-based chromatic tuner, so I bought this. I don't notice any signal degradation, but it's pretty overtone-sensitive. The LEDs hunt around a lot with some guitars on the bridge pickup, more so than the Sabine did. Playing 12th-fret harmonics with the neck pickup selected helps this a lot, but if your intonation is out that's going to be a frustrating approach. My bass player has the Boss tuner pedal and has tried this in place of it and says it sucks compared to his. I've tried his and found it to be quicker to use and easier to tune to onstage...more LEDs, so you can sneak up on the correct pitch without overshooting it so easily. The Tuna could use an extra LED step or two.

Reliability : 3
In a word, no. It has refused to work on several occasions. While it's the only DOD pedal I've had that has no footswitch problems and still has its battery door, several times I've tried to tune and the only light I got was the "on" light. A new battery didn't help. Sending it back to DOD for repairs didn't help either. Read on.

Customer Support : 3
The DOD folks were pretty responsive at first, as far as issuing a return authorization number. They had the pedal for many, many weeks, though, and I finally got it back after two or three calls to them. It was accompanied by a scrawled note that read "cold solder joint," which I think was tech-speak for "fuck, I don't know what's wrong with it" or "it worked fine the whole time we had it."
Even with its new, presumably hot solder joint it worked for about half a gig and crapped out on me again. Since then it's been a crapshoot. Sometimes its fine, sometimes its dead. I wasn't going to send it back again. And I lost the mail-order receipt, so I couldn't return it.

Overall Rating : 3
A good idea and a potentially useful product that got let out the door a little too early. Or maybe I got a lemon, but the other reviews here indicate that DOD rushed this one into production or something. I'd say go for the Boss unit. To me, the cute name and fish scales are goofy and in no way make up for the fact that pedals should be trouble-free for years. It's hard to justify sending them back to the company for repairs.

I didnt notice any sound change when having this on off or on bypass.

of course no it doesnt make any sound at all- points deducted

You cant depend on this thing one bit. I dont think it tunes acuratly , quickly.. and well... I got this thing as a gift.. about 6 months later it just stopped working.. changed battery .. nothing.. different cable.. nothing.. ac power.. nothing. screw it.

After it died I let it sit around I wasnt in a band at the time. And well a month or two ago I contacted my local dealer they send it off for repairs. I payed 44 bucks 3 weeks later. Used it one time and now all the lights blink repetively when I plug into it. This thing is messed up totally. So if thier product is so messed up that thier techs cant fix it.. I would think twice before buying one of these.

I would pay someone a dollar to take this peice of @$^# ^ off my hands. Its never worked right from day one.. and after a 144.00 investment.. it doesnt work at all.. My reccomendation: Boss tu-2.

I feel sorry for all you dod fans. I thought I was buying quality when asking for the DOD tuna for my birthday... I wished i would asked for a rocktek instead, it would have been half the price and probably worked just about as long. I DO NOT RECCOMEND!!!!!!!!!

Reliability : 1
Reliability? This thing is a piece of shit that I wish would fucking die and go to HELL. DOD stomp switches have always been FUCKING TERRIBLE, and this thing is no exception. The tuner is schizophrenic, it wants to tell me that notes are sharp AND flat, or it wants to tell me that a G is an Eb. Why the fuck did I buy this thing? I've got perfect pitch, and I wanted a silent mode tuner so I could tune silently and not piss off the crowd. THIS IS THE MOST HORRIBLE PIECE OF GEAR EVER. If you really want to buy one, hell, just go take 60 bucks from your wallet and get out your lighter, and have a little money roast in the front yard. It will be much more entertaining.

It's a tuner. It doesnt have a "sound" (No loss in signal though...always a plus) Manual? Again, ill state that it is a tuner. I suggest playing harmonics to tune. (i do this with all tuners.) People say it jumps around alot, but this is only the case if you open string tune. Otherwise its great.

no noise. I am currently running (in no particular order),....
Peavey Milestone IV > DOD Tuna Tuner > EH:Small Stone phaser > DOD FX-25B Envelope filter > Boss CEB-3 Bass Chorus > DOD FX-35 Octoplus Octave > Peavey Basic 50 Amp. No loss in sound from a tuner (+ option to silent tune during gigs)=10

I play a Rickenbacker 330 and it stays in tune pretty well. But if I am doing a lot of solos and note bending sometimes it does go out of tune in the middle of a set. Ease of Use : 10
Very easy to use and most of all, very easy to read on a dimly lit stage -- that's why I got it. Large Alpha character LED displays note and at upper left corner of this display is a LED indiacater that lights up when the flat of the note is chosen to be tuned, e.g., D on alpha display, b LED lit for tuning to Db or C#, (this gives it its chromatic capability).

A row of 9 LED's indicate in cents how flat or sharp you are -- red for the extremes, yellow for closing in, and a single green for in tune -- this scheme is wonderful for dim or no light stage tuning.

Sound Quality : 10
I hope I can shed some light on this pedal -- many reviewers say that this pedal is inaccurate and/or is hard to use because the display jumps around alot. First, on the subject of inaccurate pitch, I will say that it is impossible for it to be inaccurate -- a quartz chip is a quartz chip -- it's like saying that a $9.95 quartz Casio watch doesn't keep as accurate time as a $500 quartz Seiko watch. If a fraction of a second a year throws you off or you can hear the differences of fractions of a single hertz, you shouldn't be playing an equal tempered instrument like the guitar in the first place.

As to the display jumping around, this is because it is picking up too much information and is trying to lock on the overtones as well as the fundamental -- simply back off on the volume of your guitar. I have a Les Paul, and to tune it, I select the neck pickup and turn the volume to 5, I then proceed to tune using the Buzz Feiten method (high E - open, B - freted at 5th fret, remaining strings - harmonic at 7th fret).

Very solid -- all heavy aluminum casing -- very well built. I originally went to the store to get the Arion Stage tuner because it is advertised as being an easy to read 'on stage tuner'. I pulled it out off the box and was looking at it on the display counter and was really dissapointed at the all-plastic construction. Then I put my finger on the red display cover and it fell through the housing and down into the unit -- wow! what a wonderful piece of chinese shit!

Then after the salesman turned red, he said 'for $5 more you can get a DOD tuner that's made of metal and is chromatic to boot' (the Arion isn't). So, naturally I went with the DOD and have been happy with it ever since -- it's been mounted on my pedal board for three years now.

Like I said above, if you don't overload it with too much signal, it locks in on the fundamental just fine and I've always found it to be an accurate tuner and easy to read on stage mounted on my pedal board on the floor. This is the first pedal in my effects chain and it serves a dual purpose as being a mute inbetween songs or at the end of sets because when you stomp on it, it mutes the signal from the output so you can tune silently or not have to worry about banging the strings when setting it on a stand etc...

I usually hate the cutesy names and paint jobs DOD did on their pedals (until recently, they finally got the message) but I got to admit that I actually found the name 'Tuna' pretty funny for a tuner and the painted on silver fish scales to be amusingly funky :~) P.S.: if you're having trouble using this tuner, feel free to email me, give me the details and perhaps I can help you.

Difficult to read ... different colored lights indicate when it is in tune; and there aren't many lights. Display is crude.

Sound Quality : 8
A slight pop when invoked.

Reliability : 2
It was difficult to read and inacurate. The first time I used it was in a recording studio and the guy I was working for was shelling out some $$$. I had an old strat that needed some intonation and, I the riff I was playing was up the neck so I had to tune to fretted notes up the fretboard not to the open strings, it was a disaster. When you have a bunch of engineers looking at you and a producer who is shelling out some bucks, the last thing you want is broken equipment. So big deal, I had to tune the old fashioned way but why did I spend $60 dollars and take the time to patch into my pedal board. I later tried using it on open strings and found it very inacurate; I could tune better and quicker myself. As for the thing, it is in the "box-o-dead-peadels" now or in the garbage. I like the idea of an inline tuner on my pedal board, so I'll check out the Boss TU-2 next time.

It's simple, you just plug in your axe and pluck. It's chromatic so you can tune up/down as needed. Manual is stupid, i think you can fugure out how to use it by yourself. It sucks the battery down like crazy, but what pedal doesn't? It has a tendancy to miss notes when the battery is low.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
Its a TUNER, it has no sound. slight pop when you hit the peddle; but the pedal doesn't do anything anyway.

Never had problem, its been dropped sat on kicked dropped again It's still flawless

Fairly straight-forward, you put this tuner first in your line of effects. When its on, you can't really turn it off, but you can choose to tune silently or to hear the process according to which of 2 outputs you use. Seems to react to harmonics and so its not as stable in use as I had expected it would be.

Sound Quality : 6
Here, I'll say more about the tendency of this tuner to "jump around" back and forth across the scale. This uses a system of lights of different colors to show how close to tune you are. I want a solid lock on to the proper indicator but, instead, I often see it trying to make up its mind whether we're sharp, flat, whatever, and it looks like a tennis match going on across the face of the pedal. It varies according to the guitar and the string guage. For instance, its more stable when tuning my LP than my 2 Telecasters. With the Teles, it lies to me about the tune of my low E on both (a 50 on one and a 46 on the other). When Tuna says they're in tune, they are clearly quite sharp, and I have to tune those low E strings at the 3rd fret for proper tune. This is a hassle. Also, Tuna is slow to recognize some of the notes, especially at open position. Tuna works best when kept in a warm and dry place.

Reliability : 7
Let's say that, when you figure out its quirks and learn how to live with it within its limitations, it works pretty well. Some other review said something about love/hate towards Tuna, and I know what he means. I plan to add an analog display tuner to the pile of gear as kind of a complement/back-up.

Called them once about one of their other products and the man I spoke with was a real delight and very helpful.

I do find it useful but its inconsistencies frustrate me. I wouldn't buy it again as I'd try something else. Had an analog Arion tuner which was also not the real answer, as it too would fail to recognize some notes and lie to me about open G on my LP when I used a 19 guage wound string there. I like the Tuna much better than that Arion but I'm still looking for something which works consistently accurately. I need and depend on a tuner because I'm tone-deaf or, at least, tuning-impaired.

Very easy to use. Just plug it up and tune away. The manual appears to be the standard for a DOD FX pedal.

Sound Quality : 7
Generally the sound is OK, but I get a light "pop" from my amp when switching the tuner off and on.

Reliability : 8
Nice hardened case, It can take a beating. I don't think it will make it through a single performance on a battery though.

Overall Rating : 7
This is a love/hate relationship. I wanted a floor tuner which functioned basically like an A/B switch. Punch in, and the tuner comes on, with no signal to the amp. Punch out, and the unit becomes passive, with signal to the amp and the tuner shuts off. DOD made a nice try but they missed. On the FX12, the tuner comes on when you connect any input device, even a cable to nothing. That is, if you leave the any cable plugged in, it's on, even if the selector switch is off. When the selector switch is off the unit is not passive. The tuner is still on, but in some wierd state (it appears to tuning but not really). Unless you buy the power supply, you can plan on a 9V battery every ~4 hours, unless you disconnect it, which contradicts the whole purpose. It's a great tuner, but external power is a must, since there is no way to turn it off. Although, another review here stated that it takes a non-standard 10V power supply, my unit indicates that it takes 9V DC, I tryed a 9V, it worked okay. If you have a pedal board with power, you will love it. If you have to drag a wall wart to it, you won't be so happy.

Well considering this is more of a tool than an effect I can only say so much..
This is a brand spanking new pedal for quick floor tuning. Especially good for gigs in the dark - led's are bright enough.
I will talk about the sound in the next section.
The manual is the same as any other DOD pedal, simple and easy to figure out.

Sound Quality : 8
Well there is ONE drawback about this pedal which does effect the sound quality of the unit. This requires a 10volt input rather than the standard 9volt input. Because of the change of design if you decided to use a battery (which did come with mine) it will sound a tad fuzzy while playing (no way around it, so it is not suggested for performances). Obviously to work around this you will need to buy their 10v adapter for it, or go down to your local RadioShack and pick one up for $13.99 (make sure it is 10volt NEGATIVE!!)
Other than that it is decent.

Reliability : 10
This thing is just as tough as any other DOD pedal, they can hold up to any of the stage rigors that we all put them through....

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have bought several pedals from DOD (all new) and have never had to call for support and have never had any problems with any of the units, so I am quite satisfied with my purchases.

Overall Rating : 10
Yes I would buy it again if anything happened to it. This pedal has a new design along with a few other pedals that had come out last year (milkbox, gonkulator, pasturizer, etc.), the new design includes strange names for controls, swivel battery door, pretty color schemes, and the same old durability.
