I have to admit, I was utterly confused for like the first 15 minutes of jamming with this sucker. However, after I adjusted the sensitivity up to 9.9,,,i was able to dial in a decent autowah sound.

Sound Quality : 8
There is definitely a volume drop if the sensitivity knob is not on 100%. Mixed with my small stone phaser, this pedal is great.

The previous poster gave me ideas when he mentioned his mod to the fx-25b. thanks !

Reliability : No Opinion
I bought this pedal earlier tonight from some dude on craigslist. The previous owner seemed like he never even took this thing out of the box. Not one scratch on this thing.

I really can't give a good opinion on this one, because I have only had it a matter of hours.

Customer Support : No Opinion
no need

Overall Rating : 8
Considering that I only spent 30 bucks and got a half-way decent pedal, I would say it is a positive purchase. However, be warned you might have to really tweak this thing to get a sound that is acceptable. Once adjusted, this pedal is a solid buy.

Easy to get a good sound after you mod the board

Sound Quality : 9
Excellent after mod sounds warm organic analog. Was using the touch wah in my ensoniq dp4+ and was good but scratchy digital.

To mod replace R5 (20K) with 6K2 (this is the Wah input)
and R39 (10K) with 3k (this is the dry sound to blend pot)

Just an update......I'm still running this thing in my pedalboard with a passive j-bass.....
I continue to use it 'cause it was cheap and I get a great dub sound with it.....
I believe the only way to get a useable sound with this thing is to run a compressor AFTER it, in your signal chain.....

Sound Quality : 8
I run a tech 21 bass compactor AFTER it......compressor/2 band eq......and this pedal would be useless without the tech 21....

Reliability : 10
still going strong......17 years....live shows with beer spilt on it...

best budget bass dub envelope sound for me.......needs help from a good compressor after it but it will perform.....
there are way better envelope pedals out there but it was cheap and I figured it out after much trial and error.....
killer dub sound......sublime, bob marley.....

3 knobs......pretty easy to figure it out......didn't take too long to figure out it is a volume and tone sucker as soon as you step on it.....usable sounds that need help.....look to a compressor for helping the volume drop when kicked in....

Sound Quality : 7
for a budget pedal this envelope filter is usable if you don't want to spend 250+ for a boutique pedal.....it definately needs some help....I use it with a bass compressor pedal to bring up the overall volume and tame the envelope a bit....

Reliability : 10
mine is 15 years old and still going strong....

this pedal definately need some help from a compressor pedal.....I use mine with a tech 21 bass compactor pedal to bring up the overall volume and fatten it up a bit....good overall envelope sounds....if you find one for cheap and you can compress it a bit, it is worth checking out....other envelope pedals cost a lot more and still aren't perfect to my ears.....because this pedal is such a tone sucker, I use it with a radial efx looper tru bypass/switcher pedal so I can kick it out of my signal chain when not in use....definately needs help from a compressor because it is a radical change when kicked on.....I use it alot for a dub sound/sub low boost for reggae tunes.....and pick harder and the envelope opens up for funky stuff.....2 very usable sounds in 1 pedal if you can dial it in....
definately neeeds help from a compressor pedal......

3 Knobs and a switch. I'm not really sure what each knob does, but it really has two settings "mutronISH" or really really muffled guitar sound. Once you manage to get a sound you want, write it down and don't lose it.

Sound Quality : 6
I use a gibson les paul special with humbuckers with a couple of other effects and an epiphone galaxie 10 tube amp. my chain is Les Paul > Crybaby > FX25b (sometimes) > Boss DD-3 > Amp. Usually this pedal doesn't make the chain for a reason.
This guitar is too over the top to be on all the time, unfortunately, when it's engaged there's a really signifigant volume drop, which is annoying because usually you're rockin and then want to add in a funky solo and bam! you can't hear it. When I do use it I can't pick too soft or I get a really muted sound. If I pick too fast the notes get garbled at the end unless i mute the guitar briefly to let the pedal start over, so it really limits you in the phrases.

But it's not all bad, the guitar can get a pretty good "down with disease" by Phish, an okay "estimated prophet" by the dead, and can sorta get a "shakedown street," but it sounds very thin. If you're playing "chameleon" by Herbie Hancock, this pedal is AWESOME. It really nails a good synthish sound for that.

This pedal is really kind of a special occassion thing for me, when I'm really in the mood. I definitley wouldn't use it all the time.

Reliability : 7
It doesn't look like it's going to break anytime soon. It's a metal case, but the switch is cheap plastic. I thought the switch was going to be different from the look of it in the catalog. I thought it would be more like a boss style switch, but it's like a button in a sea of metal.
The battery plate is cheap plastic as well and looks like it could break off. The battery connector has an excess amount of wire, but now i'm just getting picky. It should last forever. I'm not rough on my gear.

Interestingly enough, it's not that great with an AC adaptor. I had one plugged in and when the unit was off it was fine with no noise, but when I turned it on, this thing went spinal tap on me and the next thing I knew I was listening to the radio through my amp. The pedal doesn't eat batteries, though, so it's not that big of a deal, but the radio thing costs it a few points.

Customer Support : No Opinion
If it dies i won't go far out of my way to ressurect it.

Overall Rating : 6
I play rock, mostly jam band kind of stuff, but occassional play some heavier music. I enjoy playing Grateful Dead and Led Zeppelin songs and anything with a good groove.

Really easy to use, three knobs and the stomp.

getting used to the blend may be weird for some people its mainly for switching between guitar and bass sounds.

Sound Quality : 2
I'm using a Samick P-bass into an ODB-3 overdrive - Digitech X-Series Multi chorus - russian small stone - russian big muff - and throw that thing in somewhere every now and then.

This thing is horrible.
The effect is weak and can be done without. Also it sucks tone, volume, gain, anything that was ever goood about playing music...kind of can be funky but ruins the mix of everything else.

Reliability : 9
It will always work and always sound crap.

This pedal hasno usability - the more you tweak it the more disappointing it becomes.

Sound Quality : 1
It wouldn't matter where you put this in your chain, or with what gear - this thing sucks!
By 'sucks' I mean this pedal sucks tone, sucks gain, sucks period!

Reliability : 5
Being one of the newer DOD pedals the switch is less reliable than the older ones; other than that you can rely on this pedal to basically get you a decent trade-in on your next enveloppe filter.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 1
Overall...? I owned this pedal for less than two weeks. After hearing a friends FX-25 i had rather assumed this pedal would be better and more expressive - I was wrong; and so were the minds at DOD when they built this.
It is worse than it's predecessor, probably worse than a kazoo and tissue paper at getting a good dynamic enveloppe!

For the record, I find that DOD as a manufacturer makes finer quality instruments than Boss, and it's a terrible shame that every once in a while they put out something so utterly crap.
Spend $300 and get a Q-Tron, or go to every pawn shop you can find to dig upi some other more unique gem.

Ease of Use : 5
manual is useless. but I love the part they suggest that this pedal (envelope filter) should go AFTER a compressor.
HAHAHA, MORONS!

it's easy to try to get a sound out of this box. but that sound is never going to be your "that" sound :)

Sound Quality : 2
I think people who use MEG pickups should have problems with this pedal because active pickups are different from passives. envelope filters are about picking strenght. it's not the right gear to play with auto wah or envelope filters. actives are cool but it's not suitable for triggered filters like this.
now to the point!
FX25B is disappointing. all that range and sensitivity and blend control works for a big nothing actually. the foundation is bad, the voicing is bad. it's never going to be funky.
the sweep is wrong first of all. when you let a note ring the envelope jumps up and when the sustain starts to fade it suddenly dromps like rock. wow! such a shame!
and it's really harsh, not trebly or stinging, just harsh, when you turn range up.
volume drops as well.
I found it more useful when being placed after a distortion! I know it's not supposed to be there according to "rules". but when I put it after some gain the pedal turned into something new. it sounded like a better defined cut filter with a synth-like quality. but the volume drop just killed everything in here.
I'll give it a 2 because I liked the synth like sound it produced. but even that one had a horrible point: VOLUME DROP!!!

Reliability : 2
well, looks a bit cheap. knobs are ok, battery cover is somewhere you can't stomp on (should not). but the switch is very lousy! it's a stupid piece of plastic. and it's not that smooth sometimes! and if you stomp on it really hard it'll easily break. SO, BE GENTLE (this rule apply to all pedals!).

gig without a backup? I'd never gig with it! it's ridiculous to gig with it unless you fix the volume drop problem.

Customer Support : 1
well, i'll just share one little thing. the manual says that this pedal should go after a compressor. what the ****!
you can't hear anything if you place this after a compressor. compressors regulate gain level, envelope filters use variable gain levels to creat a sweep! DOD team = morons!

Overall Rating : 1
I got rid of it! no worth keeping it, because it's useless! it has a harsh sound before overdrive, has a nice sound after over drive with a killer volume drop that would make you look funny on the stage.
it's not true bypass and sucks a bit of your tone.
it's not a nice looking pedal unlike EHX or boss pedals. cheap construction, blah blah blah...
long story short: it's not worth the money, even it's $20!
buy a EH bass balls or Dr.Q. or buy a mini Q tron which is way better. or buy a Q-tron which is just amazing and you'll be delighted to use and never think that you wasted your money. DOD FX25B is a waste!

Pretty easy, in that you'll know it's completely useless five minutes in. I suppose the controls are easy to figure out, and the manual gives you some sample settings, which suck.

Sound Quality : 1
I use an American telecaster. Pedal wise i use :
Boss TU 2 tuner
Marshall Shredmaster
Boss OS2 Overdrive
Boss DD6 Delay
Boss PN 2 Trem/Pan
Electro-Harmonix Small Stone Phaser
and this piece of shit.
I'm delighted with all my pedals, but this is awful. I wanted a 440, couldn't find one around, so I picked this up. Dire - you have to put all the dials at full to get any type of effect, and there is a ridiculous volume drop. Ridiculous. I really like Jonny Greenwood, so I can tell you that this is not going to emulate his sound. You might get one good sound out of it, but space-porn funk isn't my thing. Especially when you can't even be heard.

Reliability : No Opinion
No problems, but I haven't exactly been gigging it hard. Would I use it without a back up? I wouldn't use it at all.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No idea.

Overall Rating : 1
It's bad. Anyone looking for Paranoid Android, Lucky etc look elsewhere. I wish someone had told me that before I threw my money away on this thing. Try electro-harmonix stuff, boss stuff, anything, just don't try this. Better still hold out for a second-hand 440 and pay your money. At least you'll know you'll be happy.

I play with a Gibson Les Paul and a Peavey Bandit Transtube 112. The DOD does the job very well! Very FUNKY!!! There's no noise to worry about. The blend-knob is a bit weak, I don't notice any difference if it's under 12 o'clock. But I love the sound that gets out of it!

Not terribly hard to get your sound out of...2 1/2 knobs...the half is the sensitivity, it's pretty useless to me under 12 o'clock...maybe it's because I have a pretty light touch and passive pickups? The manual, like most DOD, manuals is a joke....3 settings suggestions. Other than that it's easy...how hard is it to twiddle 3 knobs?

Sound Quality : 8
Okay, this is the most subjective rating...I think it sounds decent for the moolah I paid and for what I need it to do. No..it's not a lovetone meatball, or a q-tron+, or a moogerfooger murf....but I got it for $27.50, instead of $200+....It gets pretty trebly, so be prepared to tweak your e.q. settings..there is, as mentioned in other reviews, a noticable volume drop when engaged, but keep in mind that it's basically pronouncing your mid/highs, and cutting your bass..that's the nature of envelope filters. It mixes well with my OD (danelectro Daddy-o) and my delay (danelectro Danecho). I can get a nice Ween-esque envelope weirdness out of it, and it does usable dub reggae and funk sounds when used with stacatto chords and delay. Is it the best ever envelope filter, no, is it usable and a value for the dollars, sure.

Reliability : 9
Never had any problems with DOD in the past, except I hate their cheapo little plastic battery covers, and the switches always seem to be a little sensitive.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 8
I think a lot of people in the same boat as myself, i.e. gigging guy in a local band, think that buying boutique gear is going to give them the sound of whoever they want to emulate. Me, I buy cheap pedals and use them as tools to get an approximate sound or to add a little texture to songs....I think with some experimentation you can get usable tones out of just about anything. So as far as bang for the buck goes, I'm happy with this little stompbox.

Terrible.Aweful pedal to use. Lets be honest!

Sound Quality : 2
Alot of hard work getting this pedal to sound , and harder work to get it to sound Right. When you do figure out how to jump start it by what ever method available(eg trying to play football with it) you can get a decent sound, that is until to walk into a shop and buy a better envelope/auto wah (boss aw-3, meetball etc) pedal that just gives you a decent sound! What were they smoking when they made this piece of crap?
possibly they were thinking 'lets do another envelope filter like the dod440 which is just as hard to use , cheaper , and is missing some of the vital chips that make it a classic pedal, and while were at it we will change the name to 25fxb and everyone will love it'!!

It's a foot pedal... very easy to use. No trouble straight forward

Sound Quality : 4
It play ok with other pedals. On it's own is best with phase and delay you can get a Reggae - G. Dead type of sound. If you are lookin for that Dead sound this pedal needs a lot of assistance from other effects but gets the job done about 75% satisfied.
>>>>>>>WARNING<<<<<< If you play a guitar with a hot signal like active EMG's or any guitar with built in electronics ie.. preamp in guitar ie.. guitar runs with a 9volt batt. watch out. The signal really sucks. One of my guitars is a hot Les Paul and the signal is worthless. >>>>> Plays fine thru strats pauls etc.... with no active electronics

Reliability : 7
DOD is cheap and durable.... you can depend on it.
Yes I would gig with it faithfully. Most of the DOD line is built to withstand abuse.

Overall Rating : 6
The only reason I posted this at all is to warn anyone who may use a hot signal guitar of my situation. If your guitar has no on board electronics you will be fine. I bought the pedal to try out the auto wah sound with the intention of a high dollar upgrade in the near future. Very retro sound works better for ryth than for lead. Musicians Friend is sellen em @ 29.00 cant go wrong. Overall the pedal meets my expectations due to price. If you want a killer auto wah you are gonna spend $150.00 and up for sure

Simple, out of the box and into heaven. The manual was a little odd, as most DOD manuals seem to me, but hell. Only thing easier was my ex. The only trouble I had was caused by the thing being a volume sponge, if they fix that, I'll buy 10.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a BC Rich Ironbird Bass & a Fretless 1/2 Jazz Bass and I run most everything either through my Drive 30B practice amp or my sterio/computer setup (250 watts). Either way it sounds awesome, I usually put a Arion Bass Chorus before it, just for a little more volume and a DOD Stereo Phaser after it, cause I like dizzying music. I alternate where I put the distortion, depending on what I want it to sound like. I put if before for an "Angry Synth" or after for, what could best be described as a moose being killed by vomit.

Reliability : 10
That thing has been used and abused and it better than before, maybe it was that deal with the devil, or DOD just makes the best damn pedals.

I pulled this out of the box and plugged it right into my rig. I used the recommended settings in the manual and found out quickly that the sensitivity knob was nearly useless. I crancked it up to get the pedal to react. Obviously with only three knobs were not talking much difficulty here but it took some messing with before I could get the fat funk out of it.

Sound Quality : 8
As a bassist I am always annoyed by how much "noise" I get out of effects pedals but I have to give props to this little box. When you by pass it, it is as quiet as can be. When you activate it I find it tends to lose a bit more volume than I would care to but this can be delt with and the quality of the effected tone is amazing for a pedal I bought for under $30! I am primarily using this effect with a MM Stingray and a Wishnevsky 5-string fretless into a 400 watt Carvin head and then into a Carvin 4x10 Cab. I have this pedal as the first in my effects board which includes a collection of BOSS effects (bass overdrive, Metal Zone Guitar Distortion, Flanger, Stereo Chorus)the Envelope/Filter is alot of fun when mixed with the Metal Zone which I use with the distortion mostly down and the volume way up for a volume boost this combo seems to resolve the volume concern the EF seems to have.

Reliability : 8
Nothing is perfect, but I have it now as a staple in my gig set-up and I wouldn't take it out. I can't say I am impressed with the stomp switch which I find hard to activate - I like the BOSS style better you KNOW when you hit those - but 10 gigs now and climbing and the little guy has yet to fail me. I take pretty good care of my equipment though so I expect to keep it around for the next few years.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Thankfully I haven't had to deal with them and at $29 or less I'd probably would just buy another if the thing broke.

Overall Rating : 7
I play a Punk, Rock, Jazz, Funk, Rap, Reggae and Techno (it's different)in a variety of live and studio settings with several different groups. I use this pedal with ALL of the groups I play with and have found it very helpful in creating new sounds and new ideas. I have been a gigging bassist now for 16 years and studio bassist for 12 years. If I lost this little gem or some toolbox walked off with it I would order another that night! The way I look at music in general is that different is always good. After 16 years of playing you have to try something new or else you'll get way bored, this effect is different enough to me that it will keep me entertained for years to come and that is a great thing. I wish it had a VOLUME knob though seems to me that the engineering wizards at DOD could have taken the 20 seconds and 4 brain cells it would take to figure out that the pedal sucks up some volume and throw in a volume knob to help the cause (maybe that is coming in the next version?!?!) If you play only one style of music it probably isn't worth the 10 minutes to figure out the pedal controls but if you have some diversity in your band or projects grab one, it is way cheap and loads of fun.

Very easy to use as far as envelope filters go. It has three knobs and theyre all very self explanitory. This unit is really easy to get some great sounds out of.

Sound Quality : 9
I usually use this with a '92 Gibson Les Paul Studio and a bunch of different effects that I change in and out of my pedalboard depending on my mood or who I am playing guitar with that day. Then they go into a THD Univalve head with and el84 in the power section that is used to power my Marshall 1960A cabinet. The sounds that you get out this are really great for what you'll pay for it. Some settings suck a lot of volume, especially when youre playing without any distortion. This sounds better than most of the envelope filters out there that cost a lot more than you'll pay for this unit. I also own a Guyatone Wah Rocker, EH Q-tron, and a Mutron III, and this one is my 2nd favorite right behind the Mutron.

Reliability : 7
I don't know how reliable this (or any of the newer DOD pedals with the plastic switch) can be, but for $30....whatever. The rest of it is made out of metal and seems to be built sturdy enough. I hate to dwell on the switch, but It just seems like if anything is gonna go on this unit, it will be the switch. I've owned and used the pedal on a regular basis for the last few months and haven't had a problem with it yet, so I'm gonna give it a 7.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them, so I don't know how they are.

Overall, this is one of my favorite effects. It can give you a pretty wide variety of filter sounds for not a lot of money. It can give you funky 70's porno music type sounds, or make some crazy sounds with lots of distortion if thats what youre into. If it were lost or stolen, I would definitely buy another one.

Sound Quality : 9
I must admit i'm not a gearophile like some people, but its fine, far as i can see. i've got a Epi Jack Casady bass thru a Trace 7210, i've got an old shredmaster i sometimes use too. the pedal works best on its own. would be cool with an echo or delay i'd imagine. i bought it because of the envelope filter on Blurs 'Think Tank', and even though thats a 300 quid lovetone meatball, you get comparable sounds out of this one. fair enough if you can get EMI to fork out the money, but if you're a normal person, thats stupid money to be spending on a pedal. it can sound a bit thin and weak if the sensitivity is too high. Common sense should come in here.

Reliability : 8
its a metal case, so fine. the actual pedal switch looks like the weak link, its doesn't seem as sturdy as the old jap dods, even though i've had no probs with it. battery compartment cover is crappy, but who cares...you're using DC adaptors, right?

It's kinda hard to find the right sound. There's three settings in the manual, all of them are cool. I just goofed around with the knobs and got my own sound in about 10 minutes. The manual is nice. The only reason I give it a nine is because it takes a while to find the right sound. Here's some suggestions: All knobs at five; blend: 4 sensitivity: 4 range: 9; blend:3 sensitivity:7 range:9.

I just got this yesterday, so I haven't tried it with the rest of my rig. This pedal is awesome!!! It's never really noisy. It's quiet, but if it were too loud you'd have to turn your guitar or amp down on a lower volume. It works good with my Marshall MG10CD amp. This effect is AWESOME!!! Except sometimes you have to play harder on the strings to get the right sound and since my strings have really thick gauges (10,13,17,36,52,60) It's hard sometimes. Overall, this pedal ROCKS!

FX25B, 2nd version. 3 knobs. The new blend feature is the best by far. It reserves your lows. That?s a good reason to choose a FX25b over a FX25. The sensitivity is all about settings from 8 to 10. Too bad, if they made that 4 to 6 it would have been a lot better for lower output passive basses or guitars. The range is useful, but also with this; I don?t see why anyone wants to dial in settings from 1 to 5. And I miss the output volume because there is a noticeable volume drop. Still I give it a 7 because it?s able to do what it needs to. I?d kill for a more sensitive version with an output volume (HINT!!!). BTW. Browsing trhough these reviews is better than read the manual.

Sound Quality : 10
Once you found the sweet spot you?re in funk heaven! Aggressive, fo? sizzle! Can?t be compared to a wah pedal. It has an unique sound. Low sens. settings will give you a perfect Reggae sound. Nothing but honking lows? Sensitivity full open (with a hot input) you?ll get a low cut, turn blend counter-clockwise after taste and there is your nice sound for slap and pop.
I?m also very satisfied over the sound the FX25b DOESN?T give me. I mean, in bypass mode it?s silent and isn?t a tone sucker. Perfect 10!

The box:
I have it now for a few weeks. This one is about 4 years old and still looks good. I like the construction of this pedal. Very low and metal all around the unit. It loses points on the plastic battery cover. The pot meters feel very sturdy. Although the activation button is made of plastic I?d rate it higher than a Boss pedal. And it?s easier to activate than my Boss and Ibanez pedals too!

I bought the FX25b without really knowing what it sounds with my setup. I heard Flea uses the previous model and I saw a second hand for sale on a site of a music shop. I listened some recorded samples I found on the internet but never tried it before buying. I can?t say I regretted that, but I?m still busy getting the maximum out this pedal. I KNOW that there is more! I put my Korg multi-effect before it to solve the noticeable volume drop and give it a bit hotter signal. Perfect! This unit seems to like compressed signals too. If you have an Ibanez PD7 you can use the clean signal boost. Or try the overdrive on 12 o?clock, boost the high frequencies, then lead it to the DOD and it nails Red Hot Chilli Peppers ?Sir Psycho Sexy?. I use 2 active Ibanez basses, but I can imagine that a passive Jazz bass with dead strings can?t trigger the Wah effect. The green box hungers for signal, a drawback if you don?t have a hot signal and other pedals to make up for that like I have.

I?ll tell a bit about myself:
I?m 21 and I play bass for 2 years now. This is my 5th effect pedal, my first Envelope filter. I wanted something funky and I got what I paid for. I play in a Death Metal band where I won?t use this pedal. Well, maybe I will, for some crazy shit? I?m learning how to slap and this pedal really inspires me. So does my Ibanez ATK300 (a versatile EB Musicman like bass). I have an Ampeg SVT200T (100% solid state) head with 3 cabinets to choose from. As an extra pre amp I use the SansAmp Bass Driver DI. I put the other effects in the effect loop of the Boss LS-2 Line Selector to avoid hum, hiss and tone-sucking.

If the negative things I mentioned before were solved, this auto-wah would be one of the best in the world. Mainly for it?s sound. Now it?s a decent pedal, but you can really make it shine if you try. It?s like a pet; if you want it to do tricks, feed it what it likes. That?s why I think there are some unnecessary negative reviews here. It?s a bit harder to use than it looks like. Even DOD itself is clueless where to put a device like this in the effect chain. In the manual they made a list in what order effects should be, and envelope filters are mentioned twice. (?!?!) It really depends on what other gear you have. AND, of course, on your playing style and technique. This pedal can?t be compared with Q-trons and Mutrons, because those are in a totally different price range. I don?t know if it?s comparable to the Bassballs but I bet that their bypass isn?t as good as this DOD. Still then,.. This pedal sounds unique!

Feel free to e-mail me. And remember: Effected low frequencies rule the world!
Greetings from Holland!

At first I too was troubled that I had to crank the Sensitivity up to like 9.5 to get the effect to trigger with my strat. But then I got to thinking, what the heck does it matter? The effect triggers for my guitar at 9.5. So what? Do I need it to trigger somehow more? Do I want it to not trigger at all? I'm never going to adjust that knob again.

Otherwise, everything else was fairly straightforward. It took some messing around to find some useable sounds in there. At first, I feared this thing was a one-trick-pony but eventually found different cool flavors.

Sound Quality : 8
Setup is a strat with Seymour Duncan lipstick tube pickups or a tele with Kinman avn62's into the DOD, then a Fulltone Fulldrive, then my Roland JC120 amp.

I initially had trouble with volume drops and general crappiness of tone. But I was using the battery the thing came with. A new, decent quality battery cleared all that up and I think it sounds great.

People comparing this to the Qtron are missing the point. The point is: this thing is like 1/4 the price of a Qtron. It's like bitching that your Honda isn't as good as a BMW. To my ears, having borrowed a Mini Qtron from a friend for a while to compare, this thing is real close. The superior quality of the Qtron isn't dramatic enough to justify another $100 or so.

So far so good. I think the construction is fine. For a $40 pedal, it's built well. Never had trouble with DOD products before.

I play all original comedic music with a band called Mr. Thingee. We're more about making people laugh with silly songs than anything else. I keep my setup minimal. I want the gear I use to be reliable above all else. This pedal is intended for some over-the-top 70s funk parodies. It fits the bill to a T. And it was only $40! Find me a better bang for the buck, I challenge you.

At first play, it really sucks, it takes about two weeks to understand the knobs, but with practice it can be made to sound good and funky, add distortion and your in heaven if you get it right.
The manual sucks makes not much sense. If this is the B(version2) I'd hate to see the first. Too Complicated. Also the switch is way too small.

Sound Quality : 5
5 string bass and anything lower than my middle A sounds crap. There is a loss of volume that can only be made up for with practice. This thing needs a volume knob. Apart from that it makes a funky supurb sound on the high end.

Reliability : 10
It won't break, solid as.

It needs a version C with A volume knob.
They should make it in black.
The sensitivity knob is he only one that seems to do anything.
The switch is too small and often I miss it and stuff up performances.
I have seen better but if the price was halved I accept it but now?

Well well. There was onlyl one reason i bought this pedal and it was that i saw flea play it in his starlicks video. Well if you've ever seen that video, you know that the envelope tone he gets with this box is ABSOLUTELY INSANE and sounds so funky that you just feel like dancing right when you hear it. the first time i heard him play it, it was a funkalicious experience; the best envelope tone i'd ever heard. so i bought it. it's actually VERY hard to get a good sound out of this box. almost none of the settings are usable. but once you find that sweet spot... ohhhh maaaan! it's truly arousing.

Sound Quality : 10
i play a stingray, a warwick, and a fender jazz through my gallien krueger rig. it far and away sounds best with the stingray, followed by the jazz. there are two sounds i like with it. if you turn sensitivity down all the way, you get a pretty bitchin dubby sound with no treble to speak of, which can be pretty cool. and then of course, you turn it up to about 2 o'clock and just enter funk heaven. this box is extremely sensitive to playing dynamics and you have to be very aware of your attack to get it to do what you want it to do. the rating for the sound of it is assuming you've got the knobs in the right places and you're playing perfectly.

Reliability : 3
There's a REALLY BAD signal cut when the effect is on. i'm looking for a way to solve it, but just keep that in mind.

it's a dod so i'm not expecting a whole hell of a lot from it. get some pretty bad radio station signals from it. it's difficult to turn on. i'll give it a 3 because occasionally it turns on.

well this is a pretty sad box. it's impossible to get a good sound out of it, it's built like a piece of shit, and there's a terrible signal cut. But i still don't let all that shit distract me from the fact that THIS IS MY FAVORITE PEDAL. those petty grievances take nothing away from me and my stingray absolutely laying down GREASY FUNK with this box, because once you get to that sweet spot it has, once you get past the inadequacies, this is the funkiest envelope filter you'll ever play. in my opinion, it's all about the sound.

This is the "Extreme" series model, which most likely just means a "cool" paint job. I think it's hysterically ugly. Oh yeah, ease of use. Totally simple. I basically set the 3 dials to 12 o clock for clean stuff, and I dial the sensitivity down a touch when I go for distortion. The first trick with this (and probably all envelope filters, but this is my first) is to learn to dial in just the right volume on your guitar and really pay attention to your picking dynamics. I won't quite give it top marks here though, because it did take me a couple of weeks to learn to interact with it.

Sound Quality : 9
OK, for those reading the opinions that say this pedal gives them a big volume drop, or they can't get the wah happening, I had that problem too at first and I would bet these people are using it on the front end with single coil guitars. My Strat wouldn't trigger the wah effect unless I turned the volume all the way up to 10, and then it was too loud and piercing. The solution I came to: effects loop. This thing acts a lot more like it's supposed to in the series effects loop, the estra gain from the preamp must help it along. Those without effects loops, I suspect a dist pedal with the gain up a couple notches would help also. Of course, none of us would have this problem if DOD had put an input gain knob on the thing! At least humbucker players have nothing to fear, my ES335 copy does great with it with no extreme measures.

The sound quality is pretty good for a cheap used pedal, on clean tone it's great but it gets kinda nasally on the OD channel. I know there's better envelope filters out there, but they cost 10 times what I paid for this one and most likely don't sound 10 times better.

Reliability : 8
It's done pretty well so far for used. I've had it about 2 months, gigged with it several times with only a little trouble in the beginning. Had a little connection problem in the output plug, but simple tightening of the jack has fixed that. The battery door seems flimsy and I don't know how that will do over time, but you can't beat the convenience if you need to make a quick battery change.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No contact, and since I doubt I'm covered under any kind of warranty there probably never will be. At least on this box.

Overall Rating : 10
My band has started doing some extended solos and Grateful Dead-style jams, and I just bought this on a whim to have something a little different to kick on for solos. Possibly the best $30 I ever spent. I use a lot of phase and chorus, and the envelope filter makes for a great complement and contrast to the phaser. If this one broke or was stolen I would probably go with another FX25, maybe even a brand new one, for the simple reason that it is a great value for the money. Plus very few people make a true envelope filter as opposed to an autowah, which I have one of and really don't use it much now. This is what I wanted that pedal to be.

This is one of the "extreme" series which I presume is the same pedal with some cheesy marketing geared towards 13 year olds. Easy to use. The battery cover is attached with a hinge, a great improvement over the old design. You can find these for under $20. Mine was an out of box return at GC, not a scratch on it.

Sound Quality : 7
I used to have the 2 knobed version. I like this one much more. The blend knob is very useful and I feel there is less of a volume drop. Like others have stated, you have to peg the sensitivity to get a good sweep but I disagree that bass respone is diminished. I found the low end to resonate very well. I wish there was more control over attack, decay, and envelope shape but that would add $100 to the price. All in all good for the price.

Reliability : 8
Seems sturdy.

At the price I paid, the pedal gets a 10 in each category. It does what its supposed to and there really isn't anying in the under $70 category that I've heard that's better. This is a great bargan pedal, but if you bump you price to under $120 you can find a few that will eat the DOD for lunch.

Easy. 3 knobs. just twiddle for 10 seconds and you've seen what it does.

Sound Quality : 3
This thing is crap. The sensitivity has to be at 9.5 to get the full range of sound, but it becomes tinny at 9, so you can't get the full effect and still have that full sound. I recent;y tried a Q-tron and it was perfuct, full, and warm. It makes this sound like a peice of trash. The volume loss when activated is ridiculous. Totally unnecessary. DOD could have fixed that, but it's pretty typical of their pedals. I was a big fan of them in high school, but now they just suck.

Reliability : 5
Who'd want to rely on it? I use it shoot for the Jerry Garcia sound, but this just doesn't have it in it. I understand, it may just be a lemon, but mine is a peice of trash! Maybe yours won't be. I bought mine through musician's friend. The next one I'll buy where I can try it. The battery connector came broken. Had to rig it to play.

I've dealt with DOD once, and felt put off. The associate may have just had a bad day.

I wouldn't buy it again. There is a Q-tron stomp box version out that gives the original 70's sound for a reasonable price. DOD will be hard pressed to get my business back after this.

Getting to learn what knob does what takes a little time, but it's not rocket science by any means... Basically 3 knobs - Blend (of direct and effected signal) Sensitivity (how loud you have to pick to activate the WAH sound) and Range (from WA---> to <---AH)

The "Sensitivity" setting pretty well always has to be set at 9 or 10 to get a really goo "WAH" going. It's nice to have the range setting, just to adjust just hown much of the effect you hear. Using with the blend knob will take you to your desired sounds...

Overall, it has a good range of sounds, but it is somewhat limited.

Sound Quality : 8
I use this pedal with the following setup:

Strat Plus --> Real tube Overdrive --> BOSS OC-2 Octave --> FX25B DOD Evelope Filter --> BOSS DD-5 Delay --> BOSS CE-2 Chorus Ensemble --> Fender VibroVerb Amp.

When used with the OC-2, there is a real noticeable drop in output. This really seems to be the only stumbling block in the setup. For some reason they both sound fine with out the other being on, but once both are turned on, you get the output drop.

The pedal isn't noticeably noisy, but you do lose some output, as well as the bottom end (it is a wah after-all...) and is only really applicable in certain situations. In other words - it is good for what it is made for.

Reliability : 7
The bonehead at the music store dropped it before he packaged it up for me. The Range knob was bent and was difficault to turn. It still worked fine however. Eventually I just bent it back with a pair of pliers, and it was almost new. The footswitches are better than the last design they had for this series, however, the foot switch does seem a little cheap with the plastic being used the way it is. I'd say that the footswitch is my only complaint, but that is more of a DOD issue on the whole, than for this specific pedal. It hasn't broken yet in two years, but I don't trust it as much as I do my BOSS gear.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 8
Over all I would have to say that it is a good pedal - not my favorite by any means, but a nice thing to play with. I does have an overall good sound for a WAH type pedal, and it has been very reliable for me. As with most effects, I wish it would hold on to the output, but I'll keep on dreaming for now.

This pedal is not an integral part of my sound, but does provide a refreshing change every-so-often, and does inspire.

If it was stolen, I'd buy something else with the insurance money only because I feel I've gotten everything there is to get out of the pedal...

I was thinking of selling it a little while ago, but I won't get much for it. I'd recommend buying used, as you'll probly only pay about 60% of what I paid for it. Have fun - you'll probly like it if you are into different sounds...

I found it very, very hard to use in my Post EQ FX chain. When I played hard the unit made my 250W amp clip when the envelope would "close" at very low volume, which worried me because i had at least 230 watts RWS of headroom! But I hardly use it anymore- I bought it for fun and my band and I hardly require the funk sound. Although when it was placed in front of the amp it sounded pretty good.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a Yamaha P/J bass, 250W combo amp with a 1x15. When I turn it on, it actually makes my the hum from my J dissapear, although it really cuts the volume. In general I find the sound pertty good, but I've heard better.

It's always been a great performer, I rely on it from rehearsing, practicing to huge gigs without back-up.

Overall, I'd never buy another wah/envelope filter again. Not because it sounds bad- just because I've moved away from the whole idea of using it with my music. It's handy to have around, I love to let 2 notes ring out and get an awesome close.

It was fairly easy to get a good sound out of it, I tried it on one of Dean's Edge-4 Bass, And On A Alvarez 60F series Acoustic Guitar, it sounded good on both guitars, but I will more than likely play it more on my Bass.

Sound Quality : 9
I am playing this pedal through a small Peavey. The amp is Probably 7 years old and is only 30 watts, but the pedal sounds awsome through it, and switching the pedal on and off is a lot quieter than with more of the basement brand pedals, The harder you play your instrument the louder and better the effects get!!
It kinda makes you wanna grow your hair out. Like a fro or something.

Reliability : 10
Yes I would use it in a gig without a backup, with its hard metal case I don't think you could brake it!!!

I have not had that problem yet, but then again I have only had for two days!!!

I think this is an awsome pedal, it really makes me want to get the funk on, go out and buy some platform shoes, and some plaid checkered pants.

The thing that is awsome about this pedal is that it's effects are very random, but they always seem to fit in, if you work it just right.

It has an awsome effect that if you hold a note it will kinda seem as if the tone kinda starts to come at you, like a spaceship landing type thingy.

I'm using this on bass, an ibanez SR405 and a Roland DB-500 amp. This gets a low rating because it's taking me a few months to get the perfect sound out of it. Before now i'd be ripping this thing all over. The sensitivity is VERY sensitive, and it took me a while to get the right sound that wouldn't very too much with how hard i played (i hate that twangy high pitched sound it makes when you hit the strings harder than you mean to)

Sound Quality : 8
A lot of factors go into this. Yes there is a volume drop, but to me it is negligible. I also have an ibanez pd7 i may use for a clean boost after the fx25b to even the sound out. Anyway, any eq you have anywhere, on amp, pedal or guitar/bass will affect the sound, and i've found out that the ratio knob on my Boss LMB-3 which is right before the FX25B, has a large effect. Also, my bridge pickup sounds a lot better with it. However, with these settings i have found a great tone:
pickup balance completely on bridge pu
bass eq: mids flat, bass and highs maxed
Limiter ratio knob on 12:00
on amp, mids on 3:00 and midrange frequency on 3:00
on the actual envelope filter:
Blend: 9:00
Sensitivy: 3:00
Range: 5:00

Now obviously things may be tricker for you since you don't have the same setup as me (well, not likely). This pedal just takes a lot of fiddling with EVERYTHING, but it's worth it. Great sound.

Reliability : 8
Hasn't broke yet, but i haven't gigged with it yet, and DOD pedals have bad reputations (my crappy dod flanger lost a pot lid in like a week or two). Will have to wait and see. No comment on batteries; i use a daisy chain from my boss ns-2.

Fairly easy to use. 3 knobs for Blend, Sensitivity, and Range. The manual explains the controls but you're better off experimenting.

Sound Quality : 7
I've generally not been a fan of DOD effects but this pedal I like. By adjusting the range and sensitivity knobs you can dial up everything from shrill quacking to more subtle underwatery tones. As others have mentioned here, there is a noticeable decrease in volume when the effect is on. It also seems to cut out some of the bass frequencies. Due to these shortcomings, I don't use it regularly in my chain of effects but it will dial up some trippy sounds when needed. It responds amazingly well to your picking technique and is quite expressive. As with any effect, sounds better on a tube amp.

Reliability : 5
DOD pedals all suffer the same ills. The cheezy battery cover is always the first to go. The flimsy plastic footswitch will last for quite a while if you don't abuse it, but otherwise will wear out on you at some point.

Well, you have to play around with it alot to get the kind of sound you want. I use it with a Peavey Fury bass, and i set it to my liking in like 15 minutes. I found myself experimenting alot, but within a couple of days i got the hang of it. Made an interesting addition to my setup, with which i play alternative/punk stuff. Really I just wanted it to play around with, and this is a great pedal to do that with.

Sound Quality : 9
Sounds great with a bass, and i'm sure it would sound great with a guitar too. Probably better. Until the battery gets weak, then it sounds like diarrhea. But it doesn't sound that much like a regular wah, at least it didnt for me. While the battery was strong it gave great low-end response, through my Peavey TKO 115 amp. Also i hooked it up thru my DS-2, and it sounded incredible!

Well here's where it turns nasty. Bought this thing on the 4th of July, and by the end of the month the damn thing had died. I don't know what went wrong... it works OK when you first start it up but after one on-off cycle the little light slowly comes on by itself, but no effect. Press the bypass, the light gets brighter, and the effect is there but totally sucks.... _no_ low end, and the wah really weak. I later found that when I hooked it up to an AC adapter it didn't suck as bad, but still was weird. I would have returned it to DOD but i don't think i want another one of these turds collecting dust on my bookshelf.

I'll qualify this and everything else by first stating that I am a bass player and bought it for that Bootsy-funk sound. When I tried it out in the store, I got that slap-funk sound I wanted right away and jumped at it! When I got it home & plugged in, I couldn't get anything out of it unless I beatthe hell out of the strings....at first.

When I realized that, in order to truly get the right sound with minimal effort, you have to turn your on-board volume all the way up (very key), all was well, VERY well!!!! As for the knobs, there are only three, so it takes about 2 minutes to figure out what each one does (key: when you think "envelope", think of "opening and closing it). If you want the truly funky sound on bass, turn the "sensitivity" and "range" knobs all the way up, turn the "blend" knob a couple of notches to the left of center (so that your bottom end doesn't completely fall out) and turn your on-board volume all the way up. From there, you can adjust as needed. Toss the manual away - I've just told you everything you need to know about how to set it.

Sound Quality : 10
LOVE the sound, once my brain figured out how to attain it!!!! If you play a lot of slap, this thing will add an entirely new dimension to your sound and you will be BEGGING your bandmates to let you solo more! No complaints at all.

The DOD Envelope Filter is a cool little box, but is kind of tricky to use. After jacking it in and playing around with it, you are left a little puzzled as what does what. I was able to get some cool sounds out of it though, and the nice autowah that rings after the note is cool. Not the easiest effect to use, but it gets better with time.

Sound Quality : 8
Cool sound for the cash. This pedal is pretty cheap and offers a very interesting effect. As others have said, there is a volume drop when the pedal is on, but you can easily get by that. Also, it has a tendency to chirp sometimes during fast strumming. Not terrible, actually it kind of adds an interesting texture, but it is one thing I have noticed while playing around with the pedal. Still, cool effect, and can add a sick envelope wah sound to your music.

Built well, seems quite sturdy. People like to bitch about DOD's plastic switches and battery cover, I have never had a problem with either. The pedal continues to work fine, even after agressive shows, and lots of stomping. I see no need to have a backup for a gig, but extra batteries are always something to carry... as like all DOD's it continues to drain power as long as the inputs are plugged in.

Never needed them.

I am quite happy with the pedal, it offers a unique effect for a very cheap price. It is a fun effect to add to a variety of music, from funky to punky riffs, this pedal can deliver a cool sound, especially when used with distortion. All and all, if you are looking for a cheap autowah, you should check out this nice little pedal.

This pedal is fairly easy to use, but the problem is finding out what each knob means. the manual has some neat settings, but does a lackluster job telling you what the knobs actually do. Also, the knobs are very sensitive, so when I found my favorite setting, I used a marker to make marks so I know where to turn the knobs before playing.

Sound Quality : 7
I use a fender jazz bass through a nemesis 200w combo amp. The first thing you will notice about this pedal when you step on it is the fact that the volume drops at least 15 to 20%, however, there is no noise. The overall effect sounds neat, and you can even set it to an auto-wah setting. using different settings on my bass (pickup-knobs), I can get various funked out sounds.

Reliability : 8
When I used an AC adapter to power this thing, it added an weird hum, and made the red LED light shine so bright that when I had the unit off, the light still shined, only slightly dim. I prefer to use a battery, thus, I have neither problem. looks fairly durable, despite the fact that I've had it for a year, and the paint is already chipping off.

Although this pedal has several flaws, it is an overall good envelope filter. In comparison to the Q-Tron, this pedal is much cheaper, and will give you some of the sounds, but not all. If you like to get funky, this pedal can help you by adding a wild sound to your bass signal. Always remember with effects, though: never over-play it on-stage.

I have it like about for 3 days, and the only way to get a cool sound of it, is to crank everyting up,or to set the sensivity at the half, for playing chords.
I didn't get the range knob, which is explained, but i don't really understand how to use it!

My guitar is a mex. nashville tele(beautiful guitar!) a transistor marshall preamp(for hard distortion) and a mesa boogie something(50 w). I don't know the name, and i'm to lazy to look it up. It's an old amp build 10 years ago!
It steals a lot of sound if you crank the blend up, but with distortion it sounds like the final solo on paranoid android. AND FOR THAT I LOVE THE THING! IF YOU WANT TO PLAY THAT THING, GET A MUTATOR RACK OR THIS THING. PRETTY AMAZING THE SAME HE USES!

easy to get a good sound out of. hard to get a lot of good sounds out of it. its a bit harder than other three knobers (still not saying much) as it can be hard to find a balance between balance and sensitivity, then trying to get a good sound out of the range knobby.

Sound Quality : 8
first i'll explain my setup, as it it rather odd. i have a hollowbody guitar through a boss ds-1 into a roland bolt 60 amp. my amp lines out into a small crate bass amp. i have the filter between my line out and bass amp, all knobs cranked. i then set the balance between the two amps so i can hear a bit of the "whaa-rrr" sound after i mute the note. in effect, i get a slight glimpse of the filter fully cranked instead of it taking over my sound.i've heard some famous guys use this (flea, guy from coal chamber) but i don't hear it in their songs, but then again i don't really listen to them.
this pedal sounds good with all knobs cranked but thats about it. sometimes when i'm using the pedal conventionally, i'll set the range back so that it just gives my solos a bit more of a vocal effect than a full wah. theres also a slightly annoying volume drop.

Reliability : 8
mine often gets a loud buzz that takes over the sound of my amp, but a good kicking of the input jack usually fixes that. other than that and the battery compartment, its great. i can't believe people would bitch about the switch being plastic. if they hate it so much, they can rip the damn thing of and just kick the shit out of the metal part underneath. this thing fell off the roof of my car when i accidently left it there and we hit the breaks really hard. a few scrapes but no damage to the innards.

i (try to) play a bit of everything and this is really good for some and bad for others. good for funk but i wouldn't use it in a jug band. its good for rock but only in moderation. anything noisy (sonic youth, my bloody valentine, shellac, boredoms, etc.; what i primarily play) wouldn't benifit from this pedal much, cause it kills feeback, but most people would probably appreciate that. overall, the bad things about this pedal probably don't warrant paying $250 extra for some vintage reissue thing.

The lower ranges of the sensitivity and range controls (below 12 o'clock) are pretty much useless. The range control is pretty linear, but the sensitivity control seems to have a bunch of sweet spots, and a bunch of flat spots. For instance, full on seems to be a weird flat spot that sort of stretches the effect out so it's not very distinctive, whereas backing off just a couple of minutes off from there makes the effect quack like a rubber duck...from hell. (Could be a bad pot, that seems to be a problem with DOD, and the effect seemed to pick up a lot after I sprayed the pots out.)

The blend control, on the other hand, seems to like the area before 12 o'clock much better. Turn it down too far and you end up with no guitar, only effect. It seems to be a cut control for the dry signal rather than an actual mix control, since the effect seems just as strong at full down as at full up.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm generally running a Cort strat copy > FX25B > Danelectro T-bone distortion set to 9 o'clock > Danelectro Corned Beef reverb set to 12 and 12 > Danelectro Nifty Seventy. When I first got it home I ran a Peewee Les Paul straight through it into the Nify Seventy, and that sounded pretty cool too, and a Galanti bass, which sounded good on the high tones, but not very distinguished on the low ones.

It has no noise that I can distinguish, though the end of the effect warbles a bit. It's not always predictable if a particular note is going to hit or not when the sensitivity is turned down, though that may simply be a matter of developing my touch.

It sounds great going into all the distortion boxes I've tried so far.

I play a sort of punk'n'blues thingy. It's pretty wack for that, makes me jerk up the rhythm and palm mute a lot.

I would definitely get another, in fact I'm thinking about getting one for the bedroom so I don't have to carry it around. Right now it's my favorite effect.

I wish I could reverse the sensitivity, though, so I could get clean chords interspersed with wacky single notes. Instead, it's just the opposite. With the sensitivity low, single notes come out clean, but two and three note clusters wack out.

Very easy to use, you will have a setting you like in no time! Just three simple, easy to use knobs: Blend, Sensitivity, and Range.

Sound Quality : 10
This is an amasing pedal. You can get very quick "quacking" type sounds with the sensitivity set about 12'oclock and long slow sweeps with the sesitivity set around 5 o'clock. This is the best sounding DOD pedal I have ever heard. I am not a fan of DOD pedals, i would prefer a boss, but this is a keeper. If you are thinking about getting a boss atuo wah, try the envelope filter too. In my opinion, this one sounds better. And one more quck note, never set this pedal up after you distortion, it will sound very bad, always put before. Guitar--->Envelope Filter---->Distortion.

Reliability : 8
DOD pedals are built good, exept for the plastic battery cover on the back.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a ibanez gsr200 through a carvin pb-200-15 and it sounds awesome! i absolutely love the sound this pedal creates on my bass. if you are a bass player and want to play some funk that you dont have to manually control, this is perfect for you. I think the best sound for it is when i slap or pop the strings since the intensity of the wah is increased. my favorite settings for it are with the range and sensitivity cranked and the blend at a little above 9-o' clock. this setting preserves most of the bass signal while adding the envelope effect. The sensitivity control is basically useless (at least in my opinion) since you need it cranked to get a wah on all your notes.

Reliability : 10
i would use it without a backup. i cant believe how all these people whine about the plastic pedal. the plastic part is actually pretty damn nice since it is simply like a pressure plate unlike the boss pedals that pivot on two screws. i cant see how the pedal would break. Also the battery compartment is easily accessed instead of being placed under the pedal like boss products.

This whole category basically depends on what you are looking for. You definately haveta messs around with it to get what you want, but the instructions include a description of what the knobs do, so its pretty self explanitory. The manual gives you three settings that have 3 totally diff. sounds to start you off, but otherwise, they give you a reccomended starting position and i just "tweaked" it from there. I have only had it for a few days, so i will comment again later if anythign else super important comes up, but so far i have got a few really great effects out of it that i have been wanting to add to my "repetoir". This pedal is upgraded from the FX-25 which was the same thing with a different color and no blend control. I havent heard the old one enough to comment, but i have heard that the sound quality has improved somewhat from the first, and from the last recollection i have of playing the original, the new "B" model has better sensitivity. (I really had to pound the sound out of my strings before i got anything coming from the box.) All in all, very simple and easy to use.

Sound Quality : 8
I dont have a great or huge setup, but i am running this through an old Peavey Basic 50 (50 watt amp.) Im plugged into a Peavey Milestone 4. This peddle is pretty clear, but again, tweaking is definately necessary to get the sound you want. Also, The signal is definately weaker when running thru this bad boy, so you unfortuntely would haveta tone it down after you got done usinhg the filter.(not a big deal thoguh.) Also, I would definately mess with all the variables in this "sound equation" to find your sound. I had to adjust the EQ on my amp, and my tone knob and then mess with the filter to get what i wanted, but id say this is pretty standard. If you keep the tone very low on your bass so it is more of a thumping low end sound as opposed to having it high so you can really hear the attack and get a nice crisp somewhat hollow tone, the box will only make that sound muddier. My favorite thing about this peddle is that after some tweaking of the filter, the amp, and the bass, I finally got a good crisp tone similar to that of Andy Miller (Bassist for the BIG WU).

Reliability : 8
I really couldnt say much in this area, because ive only had it for a few days, but I would like to clear up an issue that everyone seems to drag through the mud when it comes to DOD. Everyone says, It's a good solid box and all, but that plastic footswitch makes me kinda nervous. Chances are, they have never used one. They look flimsy obviously, cuz no one likes plastic, but they are extremely sturdy and dont haveta be pushed hard at all. Id say when pushed it moves down about a quarter inch topps. Its definately not breaking or "going anywhere".(But i do understand that we all take a safe haven in our medal pedals:)

Customer Support : 9
I actually had to call the dealer where i got it about my old adaptor and if it was compatible, and he was very helpful, friendly and explained things well. (Didn't try to jerk me around at all.) But I fortunately havent had to deal directly with DOD.

Overall Rating : 9
I play alot of improv music and rock. (ie:Phish, Dead, Big Wu, Stanley Clarke, SCI, and the like...) I think this pedal is definately something that will benifit and diversify my current style and options. This box can accomodate many kinds of music, but is definately good for what i play and is also great for funk and slap. (It's nice on little solos too.)

If this were lost, i would definately invest in another one. (Maybe find a used one.)

The thing i love about this is the diversity of the single sound, and the value. At 50 bucks, you cant go wrong.

I have compared this to the EH:Bassballs, and the EH:Q-Tron (both are envelope filters.) And as far as value goes, you just cant beat 50 bucks. Im sure the Q-Tron has a few more options and i'd bet the sound quality is better, but for those of us who cant shell out 200+ dollars, this is more than ample. Plus, i am looking to get some other pedals in the near future and i can definately afford them now.

Definately a good pedal for your money, and i see it as cash well spent. (Plus my funk just got alot funkier!)

This pedal is very simple. It has 3 knobs and they are pretty much self-explanatory. It just takes some fiddling to get the sounds that you want, just like all pedals. The manual has 3 decent examples included with it.
The Range knob increases or decreases the depth of the effect, the Sensitivity knob acts sort of like a volume control. The higher the sensitivity, the louder the effect gets. And the Blend knob is sort of like a tone control. It is supposed to allow for bass players to keep the bass tone, but is useful for a guitar player as well.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm running an Ibanez H-S-H to a Boss acoustic simulator (sometimes) to the Envelope Filter to a Marshall VS65R. It sounds great when placed after the acoustic simulator, but very muddy if placed before it. It also sounds good with the clean channel on my amp, but not so hot with the overdrive channel.

Reliability : 9
It's built solidly, the actual box is made out of metal so I know it'll will hold up since I don't abuse it much. I don't understand why some people have a problem with the plastic switch, it's a sturdy plastic. I spent $60 on this, I'm not going to try and break it, so the plastic switch doesn't bother me.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them. The guys at George's Music were very helpful when I bought it.

I use this for playing worship music at church to add a little something to my sound instead of just a straight clean. As long as it is set correctly, it doesn't detract from the music. I would buy another one because it is very versatile once you get the hang of it and I just love the sound.

Good fun. one of the most far out pedals that i've ever used apart from my friends gt-3 but thats about it.
unfortunatley it made my Crybaby feel a little less useful.
The only problem that i've had with it was when I used it on my friends rig when I first picked it up. It was very touchy and fairly limited but his rig i very tiny. get on somthing PHat and it's got endless possibilties

I use a Fender Mex Strat>Boss CE-5 chorus>DoD Fx-25B envelope>Boss>DS-1 Distortion>Boss BF-2 Flanger>Crate Gx-15 amp. (Not all neccisarilly in that order.) Sound quality is ok. As my 1st Wah type pedal I can't complain too much.I like blending the Envelope Filter w/ either my DS-1 or the overdrive on my amp. 3 knobs - too easy. I wouldn't crank them all to max but that is generally the idea. How you set the knobs depends on the technique and I little on the tone coming out of the bass.
There is a manual but do get too excited about it!

This will depend a lot on your playing technique. I use it for bass and since I play quite heavily the sounds I get I found where very funky. BUT I have had friends say they didn't like the sound of it but the play like a girl.
Just straight out of my active bass into the pedal and then to the amp.

The DOD FX25B version of an envelope filter is quirky and peculiar. This is the so called "updated" version of DOD's FX25, with three controls: BLEND, SENSITIVITY and RANGE (the FX25 didn't have the BLEND control).

The controls do work, but not in ways you'd immediately expect - The BLEND is suppose to mix the original signal with the effect, but I only found it useful when almost fully cranked. RANGE does change the frequency, but it only seemed to change it from one irritating sound to another. SENSITIVITY almost worked as expected, except that I had to have it cranked just to get it to start working. They need to put one more control on it, but I'm not sure what that control would be, maybe "Tone" or "Boost" or perhaps the elusive "quality"... read on...

Sound Quality : 4
I used the FX25B as a guitar effect, and the first thing I noticed was an obvious drop in signal level. It dramatically thinned out the sound of all my guitars (a Fender Telecaster, a Carvin DC200 and an Epiphone Casino into a Mesa/Boogie Rect-O-Verb). I suppose you could boost the sound or improve the tone with an EQ or run it through an effects loop, etc, but who wants to go through that much trouble? I already have a dozen other things to consider when I'm performing.

As far as the "effect" goes, it did work well once I got the settings right, but I was left very UNimpressed with the "quality" of the sound I was hearing. It's my own fault, I read all the unfavorable reviews on the older FX25, but thought that the BLEND control was somehow the ticket to getting a good sound out of it... on the contrary, it was the ticket to "No-Wheres-Ville" man.

What made things worse was the fact that I could still hear the effect even when turned off. Less than a week after getting it I traded it, along with a couple other crappy effects, for something REALLY good, (a Carvin Quad X-Amp!) so I finally found a purpose for it afterall!

I own two other DOD pedals; the FX84 "MilkBox" compressor and FX40B graphic EQ, and really I love them both a lot. Since they've always worked well and have been very reliable, I decided to give the FX25B the benefit of the doubt and purchased it (via mail order). Well, my respect for DOD has definitely dropped a notch or two. I don't fault them for putting out a bad product, as much as, putting out an updated version of that product with no discernable improvement.

I hesitate to call it a total failure, after all it does work as an envelope filter, but I consider it a major disappointment and I find it hard to recommend the FX25B to anybody for any reason. Sorry DOD, I tried!
