it is pretty easy to use (it's a freakin' pedal how hard can it be?). the codenames still confuse me, can never remember which corresponds to which frequency.

Sound Quality : 9
i play an ibanez js100 through a daddy-o pedal then this pedal to a quadraverb and 3630 to a peavey minx bass amp. the pedal is relatively quiet in the off mode, recently (owned it for 2 years) i have noticed that when all the knobs are cranked and it is in the off mode it builds up a pulse, which is remedied by either turning the knobs down or turning it on for a couple of seconds. it has two different octave levels, one emphasizing a region around 130hz? and the other around 50hz?. as a result the lower octave will seem a lot quieter unless you are using equipment that detects those frequencies. when in use it may flip emphasis back and forth if the signal is not loud enough (i set the octaves mix at approx. 50/50), as if it can't decide which frequency to emphasize. at higher levels it sounds awesome, fattening, deepening the bottom end. i particularly like using it in conjunction with my overdrive pedal (daddy-o), playing leads in this fashion brings awesome low harmonics into play. it has a very unique sound, very strong lower octave pedal, much better than other octave pedals i have tried. if i were to design an octave pedal myself it would be just like this except with a little more consistency at lower levels (part of that problem is because i like to have it set with about equal mix of the two octave ranges, if one were to set it to one or the other range the problem would be no more). excellent sound for the money.

Reliability : No Opinion
it hasn't broken yet

haven't dealt with them

i play dark classical style hard rock (neurosis-like) and this pedal gives me what i need. works well with guitar, i have no idea how it sound with bass. i recommend the combination overdrive to meatbox, produces exquisite lush tones that can be found nowhere else. if my pedal were lost or stolen i would definitely track down another (i think this product has been discontinued).

Four knobs. You Figure It Out. Even though it has those weird ass DOD names it comes with a manual. And fly stickers x?x U

Sound Quality : 10
Well this is a cool ass effect. It is supposed to be a subharmonic synthesizer for bass. Well It is cool as hell on guitar and pretty tight on a Ibanez 5 String. My bassist just got a Furman Punch 10 Bass Enhancer and it is the same exact thing and more exspensive. But I want one myself so what the fuck am I talking about. The setting I use is the Bass From Hell (There's only 2 setting examples anyway) I use it with a Menatone Chawbox and a BOSS DS-1 for a light distorted deep ass octave sound. Or a Crybaby and a BOSS Delay. and a It just makes everything so deep and distorted.

Overall Rating : 10
This pedal is tight. It's like the Buzz Box. Special and retarded. So if you play Drug influenced, slappy happy, hardcore, circus shit. Get it.

Call me crazy, but I don't mind the dumb names DOD put on thier old pedals. Althought the FLANK knob required the manual to translate. It's easy, but unless you turn the RUMP and FLANK knobs to 80-100%, there is little difference.

Sound Quality : 6
Really makes the bass stand out, adds alot of stage presence. Not noisy at all. The MEAT knob seems to make the overall sound quieter, but it can be delt with.

Reliability : 9
It's built like a tank, as all DOD's are. Only the footswitch feels a little weak. (New DOD's are better)

Overall Rating : 6
Only buy it if you can get it for less than $50. I'v heard you can damage your amp w/ it so be carful.

2 lower frequency knobs, adjust to your liking, and a knob there for lower octave, lower octave note sounds quiet. No complaints though. Volume knob too.

Sound Quality : 10
Ya its real bassy. I use it on guitar. Put an octave pedal in front, and bam! its better. Also good booster type of pedal for all purposes. If you don't want bam! then well....

Reliability : 10
I will take a stand. DOD pedals are very reliable. I broke some before, but I was sloppier in those days. If your still a minor then just take it easy. They might break.

Customer Support : 10
dod.com is not bad. I got a phone number to order some knobs and a battery door, and the shipping was free.

Overall Rating : 7
Bam! Before the octave pedal is great. It fills up the sound well.

It's only a stomp box, just tweak the nobs. Like everyone says DOD should put real names one there pedals. The meat nob (first one) is the most important if you don't turn it up you won't notice a difference.

Sound Quality : 9
I havn't figured out why DOD marketed this pedal as a bass effect, I have tried it out on both guitar and bass and it sounds bad on bass. But if you put it in your guitar chain it sounds great. I run it with a metal zone after it, I have tried it with a few other distortion, overdrive and the metal zone works best. It creats a great effect, on the lower strings you get a cool synth type effect, but once you get up to the G string or so, you don't notice the effect, this can me used for some cool stuff. I can't stand this effect on bass, but for guitar it is great.

Reliability : 8
It's not a boss, I don't like the foot switch, I looks a little to weak and I feel like I'm going to break it if I stomp on it to hard. But I havn't seen many problems with DOD pedals.

Customer Support : No Opinion
havn't had to deal with them

Overall Rating : 8
It's a good pedal (for guitar) I don't like it on bass. I have about 7 pedals plus a Digitech RP-6, I'm a pedal freak. I'm always looking for new and different sound and I found some here, I use this as an octave like effect, to get a lower octave out of it. It's a good pedal but not a necesicty. But if you are looking for somethig different give it a try, they might give you a wierd look at the store when you want to try it on guitar. Watch out the you don't blow your speaker when you use it.

I didn't get a manual about meat=octave blend,rump=30Hz boost, flank=60Hz boost, and lbs=volume, you just have to tweak the knobs (if you don't adjust the meat knob you don't adjust the meat knob you won't notice a difference).
NOTE: YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR SPEAKER IF YOU EXCEED THE MEAT KNOB PAST THE FREQUENCY(NOT VOULUME) OF THE SPEAKER!!! (if your speaker sounds like a truck downshifting on the highway your doing that!!!)

Sound Quality : 9
I used this stomp box for a 4-string bass and it is designed for wall shaking heft(not as thick as the Korn sound). During rehersal one day I broke it out and the drummer told me his nuts were vibrating! with the meat setting on 8 o' clock, rump 4 o' clock, flank 12 o' clock and lbs on max. the box is not designed for distortion but for thick bass sounds. The main disadvantage I could foresee is the notes get distorted when you go past the E string do to the subharmonic blending. other than the above disadvantage and the icy hand of death upon my speaker cabinet (see "ease of use" note)I had a really good time with this stomp box.

Reliability : 10
I haven't had a problem with it yet? but it easier to switch than a boss stomp box

Overall Rating : 10
when I first saw this pedal and used it I didn't notice a difference, because I didn't adjust the meat knob. I'm glad I came back to it! The meat box is the closest thick bass sound I've found in about 2yrs. I find it most effective to slap the E string while the drummer is bangin' on the floor toms so your bass notes don't get drowned out. I highly recommend it for all bass players. So what are ya' waitin' for!!!

This pedal is really easy to use. The only part that could be slightly confusing is the usual weird names that DOD gives to the knobs on their pedals. This confusion can easily be solved by looking in the manual. The manual also has a couple of settings that you can use with the box to get certain sounds, although, these aren't that great.

Sound Quality : 4
It is noisy by nature. It doesn't make much of a bass distortion pedal, which was what I had been hoping for. You tweak it so that it isn't very distorted or scratchy, but you loose most of the effect. It is basically good for a lot of bass, like if you're into really shaking things with your bass. It adds tons of low end STUFF.

Reliability : 10
It is built better than most tanks. It is the standard DOD construction; rugged. You can't break it even if you want to.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had any problems with it.

Overall Rating : 4
I probably wouldn't buy it again. The only cool sound that I've managed to get out of it was when I was playing around with my 6-string J-bass and a Boss OD-1 Overdrive pedal and the Meatbox. I was just fiddling with the knobs, and I managed to get the bass to howl like a banshee on all of the notes, yet it still shook the paintings off the walls because of the sub-harmonic tones created by the Meatbox. It sounded kinda cool. I wouldn't use that sound in any song though. The bass that this thing adds is pretty good, though. If you're looking to get a "deep, fat" sound out of your bass, this pedal can help a little. Usually when you try to make it sound really "fat" it gets slightly distorted. The only real use for it is to make your bass shake things more, which isn't all that useful.
