This is to edit my previous entry. Now that I have done my repairs and maintenance work, I would regard this pedal as totally reliable, and I would use it without a backup.

Not hard. The tone control is very subtle, but then again it only affects the Ocatve tone. The manual for it is easy to read and understand, and give some sample settings. MAde in the U.S.A., no translation necessary.

Sound Quality : 9
No noise. The unit sometimes jumps the octave on low notes, and there is some theory to that, but I don't know what it is. The Octave sound is a little weaker than the Direct sound, but it can be adjusted. I use a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp.

Reliability : 6
I bought it used from somebody in non-working order. I took off the baseplate, removed the battery compartment, plugged it in, and it worked. The paper card glued to the baseplate came lose, and something probably shorted out. The battery leads didn't run through the compartment, but were instead wrapped around. The pots were dirty, and that could have been the problem, too. I just cleaned them out. I don't think that DOD has the best design for a footpedal, and they should probably take some hints from BOSS.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have meial them, and have received prompt reponses, so they get a high score, they should have a phone number, though. But, i can understand also why they would want to keep it a secret.

Overall Rating : 7
I like the sound, and although I don't have a place for it yet in my music, I would like to have an octave pedal in my setup. However, I would prefer to buy the BOSS model, because it does two octave divisions instead of just one, and the BOSS design is more reliable. I bought it with intentions of using it for spare parts, or possibly fixing it for resale, and that is exactly what I am doing now.

This is one of the easiest pedals to use. 3 knobs: Octave Level, Tone, and Direct Level.

Sound Quality : 7
When I have the Direct Level at about 10 o'clock, I can get a nice bass sound. When I have my amp on the gain channel, it sounds exactly like Tim Bob from RATM. Sometimes, though, the pedal starts to produce this worbelling sound when more than one or two strings are picked, but, it's tolerable. When I have the Direct Level turned up all the way, it sounds like there is a 300-pound bass player in my amp doubling my every note, it's great.

Reliability : 7
Well, I bought it used, and it's already beat to Hell, but it's still alive and kickin'.

Overall Rating : 8
I play rhythm guitar in my band, and sometimes I have to play bass lines as well, so this pedal makes my job a little easier. I love the convenience of having Beelzebub jump out of my amp if I need him. Buy this pedal, the old-school DOD look is enough to buy it. That's all I have to say...Boy, I sure do like butts...

3 Knobs. Couldn't be much easier. Tone knob doesn't seem to do much though.

Sound Quality : 8
Pretty good. Doesn't screw up the fundamental tone. The tone on the octave is weird. Doesn't sound much like the input, but you can take advantage of this. If you turn the root all the way down and the octave all the way up it makes a cool reggae synth bass sound, although it is a bit quiet. The with a blend you can get a good bootsy sound. Finally, with both levels way up, it kind of distorts. Run it into an envelope filter for a cool techno kind of sound.

Reliability : 10
No problems so far.40

Overall Rating : 9
I use this box mainly with a bass. Pretty cool for some bootsy kinds of sounds. Also make good Tom Morrello guitar tones.

Relatively easy to use

Sound Quality : 6
Sounds good on single note leads, but doesn't track exceptionally well.

Reliability : 5
Bought it used and had to repair an input jack - they use special 1/4 inch phono jacks which may be difficult to obtain if you don't live near a major metropolitan center.

Overall Rating : 6
OK I guess - haven't tried any other octavers. I like the tone on single note leads but you have to be carefull using it or you'll produce a sonic mess.

Fairly easy to set up.

Sound Quality : 2
Terrible tracking below D-string (I'm a bass player) and marginal above that. Has a tendency to "jump around when a note is held for more than a second or so. _Extremely_ noisy.

Reliability : 6
Lasted for about 4 years before I had to open it up.

Overall Rating : 4
If I had it to do over again I'd pay the extra $20-$30 more for a Boss unit.

easy to get a good sound out of it, but patience is required to get it AGAIN. Manual was evidently "lost", as they only sent me a little pamphlet with a few hints. It's enough for this unit, but I'm a stickler for overkill.

Sound Quality : 9
this is an AWESOME effect when used subtly with a fretless bass ( ignore the little hints about low frequencies, they sound great!) Definitely an aquired taste, though!

Reliability : 9
I can depend on it and I do use it on gigs w/out backup, so far w/out trouble.

Overall Rating : 9
Great unit. If you want a tone that can't be ignored, use it on a fretless! Play it in a good funky, James Brownish groove, and you'll buy it immediately.
