Little bit noisy here. The tracking is pretty good and the noise level is controllable -- mess with the mix. Think Dr. Octavia from Black label Society. Seems to track better with humbuckers.

As dependable as other DOD pedals. This isn't a slam, I haven't had a problem out of any DOD pedal that was made in the USA. When purchased, the pots were scratchy. No problem! Take off the battery door and viola! you can clean the pots from there without full pedal disassembly.

This pedal is good for sound fx or for adding some low end to your tone. I like it because it sounds synth-like when used with a envelope filter in front. Still, it doesn't quite sound as good as other octave units I've tried/owned. Purchased for a DOD pedalboard from the 80's. Made in USA!

Excellent. I tried this pedal side-by-side with a boss oc-2. The Octoplus was overall a better sounding octave. The boss pedal sounds more like an organ and a bit more mechanical. The Octoplus sounds smooth.

Three knobs, very easy to use. Works on battery or 9 volt. Solid on/off switch, must be able to survive for many years.
Negative: The LED is in 'off-mode' still burning, just a bit less light then when the octaver is 'on'.

I use a Richwood Telecaster, Keiper Les Paul and a Marshall amp (75 Reverb), and place the effect in my effectloop. When on, it does the octave-thing, but no quite loud. The effect only works to a severel tone hight, I guess it quites when I'm playing an E on 12 on high E string. When the effect is off you can still hear a little bit of octave sounds, very annoying, especcialy when playing with earphones.
I don't really like the sound + it's noisy + it's not completely off = a 4

Allways working, but can't use it on a gig because on it's own it's worthless. I now use two octavers at the same time. The DOD and a Behringer Ultra Octaver. Both using alone is crap, but together they make very weird (this time: nice!) sounds. Especially nice when playing a solo without any backing guitar or bass.

I play simple rock, white stripes-style. So I like octavers, it makes the solos a bit 'bigger', because I am the only guitarplayer in the band that's nice. For this price after all, it's okay, especially when using my other octaver.

Does not over power by it self, it is about one octvave down.I play with a tele ,and an muti part esquire that I put humbucker SD Jazz pup in, and an LP Special. This Octvava is great with Big Muff in the front, Deep fuzz!!!,it also sings behind an Bad monkey OD,and a Dyna Comp. Works well with a wah (Dunlop Crybaby, and Morley Classic Wah) tracking is very good.I was able to play cords with Octava pedal ,something I could not do with the past two I owned(Boss OC-2,and MXR Blue Box)
So if you find one of these in a pawn shop or on ebay pick it up, it is a good effect for coloring your sound ,plus they aren't made any more. You can get Hendrix "Band of Gypsies" era Oct sound as well as Tom Morello,s Rage & Audio Slave riffs.

Its a good pedal to get if you can find it cheap (check ebay) has a good tone with other pedals ,but not over powering(not like a boss OC-3) a good mix with other pedals,I had an OC-2 and a Blue Box. The OC-2 broke,so I never got another ,and the Blue Box was cool with the fuzz ,but would not sustain well (tended to cut out with OD,or Distortion behind it) so I'll give it an 8 , I like it.

Very easy to use. 3 knobs - volume for original signal, volume for octave signal, and a tone control for the octave signal. Stomp on it to turn it on, stomp again to turn it off.
Mine came secondhand without a manual but a manual would be a waste of paper for a pedal this simple and self-explanatory.
Sound Quality
:

Hmmm... the octave effect isn't really bad. The tone it generates is a little rubbery sounding and a little dry but it blends well with the original signal. It doesn't sound very good by itself though, you definitely want to mix in at least a little of the original note to give it some overtones.
It sounds fine either thickening up a bass or doubling a guitar although tracking's not too great on really low notes on the bass and if you go high enough on the guitar you'll hit the high end of what it can track too.
The tone control makes it easy to get an octave sound that blends well. It's a cool effect as long as you're only asking it to double what you're playing and not stand on it's own.
However, this pedal has one huge drawback. It is a serious tone sucker. Listening to your instrument through this pedal, whether bypassed or not, is like looking through a window that's covered with dirt.

Seems plenty reliable. The DOD nameplate fell off the footswitch - seemingly common with DOD pedals - but otherwise it seems rock solid.

I've been playing nearly 20 years. My main instruments are a fretless Jazz Bass Special with EMGs and a fretted Power Jazz Bass Special with stock Fender active electronics and pickups. My main rig is a Sunn 1200S head through a Sunn 410H cabinet.
If it were lost or stolen, I would be mad because then I couldn't trade it towards something else at the local guitar store. I would not replace it though as I now get all my octave fulfillment from an Akai Deep Impact. If I were going to replace it, I would look at other octavers before buying another Octoplus though - one that didn't suck tone as badly.
I've played other basses, both active and passive, through it and my Mexican Strat, at one time with original pickups, now with EMGs, through it as well and it manages to absolutely kill the tone of all of them. I tried using it live a couple of times but could not live with what it did to my tone, despite how fun it was to have an octaver.
I do like the tone control. I don't like what the pedal does to your tone. I also don't like the odd 1/8" mini A/C power adapter plug - a standard Boss-style plug would be preferable.
I didn't really compare it to other products. I chose this one because it was cheap and fun and available at the time and I could trade another cheap pedal for it.
I wish it had better circuitry.
In the living room it helps me make music - out live it gets in the way.
Octavers are so inherently fun that it can cloud your judgement about them. There's gotta be better octavers than this one though. Despite a fairly cool effect, this is the absolute worst tone killing pedal I've ever plugged an instrument into.

Using with a peavey express 112 and the usual guitars, single coils or double humbuckers. Now the real sound discusion. This thing sounds like a fat man farting through a really old PA speaker. The octave note doesn't stay constant and its creates irritating wailing sounds. I guess if you want something sounding really f'ed up then go for it. I've used this pedal, with various les paul black beauties and a dan elctro dc3 i believe, as well as stripped down gibson v a epi riviera with bigsby and a peavey reactor (tele style)i run those through a boss dd5 boss flanger( now and then) a arion chorus guyatone "the fuzz" pedal, eh big muff, boss super over drive, digitech whammy and i periodically use a dod envelope filter, the last model that they released. Into a avt 50 head and crate cab (from the mid 80's) and a pair of 15 inch speaker cabs i made. I don't really try and imitate any ones sound, well I guess I do, I set out clean crunch and distorted rhythmm sounds for myself. I bought the pedal hoping it would fatten up my distorted sounds even more but got a nice surprise.
IT TRACKS HORRIBLY!!! Which i guess isn't a surprise, considering the manufacturer. But this is a good thing at least in my case, i ended up loving the thing just because of it's tendency to freak out. its okay for faking basslines on the low strings, but those interested in being a little creative might want to pick it up

I've been playing for 5 years and im actually planning on buying another one as soon as I find one, seeing as how my boyfriend seems to have decided it's his now. I have my whammy pedal, one of the reissues, and too has bad tracking on it, but the octoplus it's worse making it more "unique" im thinking it's one of a kind, probably one of those pedals that will start a clone war in the coming years...nah probably not. It's absolutely great for what I do, iy adds a whole new layer of low to my sound as well as Flava, only joking. and they're pretty cheap, dirt cheap.

I bought this pedal used, without a manual, but it is about as easy to use as a pedal can be. The controls are Octave Level, Tone and Direct Level, and do exactly what the names imply.
I use the Octoplus in conjunction with a Morley ABY pedal, so that I can run a clean signal from my guitar to a bass amp, while still preserving my normal guitar tone on a second channel. Was simple to set up for this purpose.
Sound Quality
:
7
I play both bass and lead guitar, but since I can't really do both at the same time, I use the Octoplus to mimic a bass during parts of my songs where the bass would normally follow the lead guitar. To do this, I run the clean signal from my guitar (Jackson or Hamer with humbuckers) to a Morley ABY. The A output goes to my standard guitar effects and amp, while the B channel goes to the Octoplus and then a Randall RB-60 bass combo. So I'm not really using this so much for an octaved guitar sound as I am for a "phantom bassist". I've only worked with it at home so far, but it does what I need it to do and will be using it live most likely.
Since I am running the Octoplus straight to a bass amp, I max the Octave Level, zero the Direct Level (don't want the sound of a clean guitar) and adjust the tone as needed. No noise to speak of, since there's really nothing much to dirty up the signal. The tracking is, for better or worse, about what I expected, with chords sounding horrible and tracking getting thrown off if I bend a string or hit the low E very hard. If I was trying to nail a real bass tone, it wouldn't really cut it, but for doubling a lead guitar track with a psuedo-bass sound, it works just fine. The only issue (aside from the tracking) is that the pedal's signal seems a bit weak when the Direct Level is turned all the way down, ie. only the effected sound is heard through the amp. It's not going to achieve a strong, punchy bass tone, but again, the signal is coming from a guitar humbucker with light strings, so I feel that a score of 7 is pretty fair.

Here is where DOD products can be a problem. Having only had this pedal long enough to experiment with it at home, I can't say how it would perform under gigging conditions. I bought it used, and already see that the pedal switch itself has potential for problems -- it sometimes responds with a light tap, but other times really needs a hard stomp. I won't rate this at the moment, but I will remain wary of footswitch problems down the road.

I play thrash and melodic death metal. My band doesn't currently have a bassist, but since I played bass in the studio, I know which parts really require a bass sound. The Octoplus will do what I need to do, although I wouldn't say that it's especially phenomenal in terms of sound or construction quality. However, there are so few octave pedals that get consistently good reviews, and so few available to even try out in my area, that I figured it was worth $30 to mess around with it. It will help me fill a gap in my band's live sound until we find a better solution, and for the price, I am happy with it so far.

Good quality sound on an electric acoustic with Fender amp. My purpose was to subtly fatten up a generally clean sound and it does that very well with full direct level, 1/3 octave (down), with near full tone. The octaves sound great if that's what you're looking for (which, duh, is what any guitarist wants in an octave pedal). I originally bought this to track bass lines with a guitar for 4track demos, setting the dry signal to almost zero and the octave signal way up thru my clean channel, and it works GREAT! This will give you a really clean present punchy bass sound that WILL fool your friends. However I later got to goofing around with it and found it really useful for dirty guitar leads, too. Sounds great either by mixing in just a little octave to thicken it up or by mixing them 50/50 for a super gnarly growly nasty RROOAARR! Lots of fun and very musical, doesn't destroy your basic tone but will make it a bit nastier. One thing tho, don't even bother playing chords thru it, it won't track that at all and will sound like abso crap(who knows you might like that) But for single note stuff it's great. Oh yeah, almost zero noise too.

I primarily use this when playing through the clean channel of my Hot Rod Deville 212 with the second tone knob on my strat turned down (Van Zandt Blues pickups!) and I get a nice Wes Montgomery octave effect; this pedal provides just one basic lower octave effect but it provides a little more weight and depth to your solos, almost as if you're being accompanied by a baritone guitar. I find it fantastic for adding color to standard jazz lines and even though I never intended to use this pedal all of the time, I find that I do! In conjunction with other pedals, including my Snarling Dogs Fuzz Buzz, the DOD Classic Tube(a complemetary pedal that provides a great sustain-albeit a bit muddy), a Snarling Dogs wah, delay, flange and phaser effects, this pedal can provide an extra edge even when you're going way out and trying for some far out tones. I find that it really adds girth to everything that I do. I ultiamtely chose this pedal after playing through a lot of other octave pedals because it subtly provides depth to your sound. The Boss OC 2 seems to make your guitar sound like some sort of organ. The Harmonist does a nice job but it's so damn expensive and now completely discontinued. For a basic clean octave pedal this was it for me. The better the amp and the better the pickups the more you'll get out of this.I've played it through my Deville, and a Fender Princeton and I get what I need. I've grown to really appreciate what this pedal adds to my jazz leads. I get to keep my original voice and just add a little depth to it at the same time. One draw back is that it doesn't always sound so great for chords, and doesn't track nearly as well as it does with single note soloing or arpeggiated finger picking. Beware, there is a bit of warbling over chords. For that reason and that reason alone I'm only giving this pedal an 8. But I've heard so much bad stuff about the DOD effects and I'm currently using three of them (Octoplus, Classic Tube, Flanger) that I don't think I'd ever give up and were certainly worth the money.

The only difficulty with these DOD effects is that the battery covers are always coming off. I haven't lost this one yet but it is coming loose. I bought this used and it's been through a few wars and yet the DOD casing seems to properly insulate the circuit board. No problems with input or output jacks either. Funny, but I didn't pay that much for this bad boy and the connections on all my DOD pedals are great. The only pedal that gives me trouble in terms of input and output jacks is my Boss Pitch Shifter / Delay which i only use for Delay these days.

This has been a great match for the standard jazz that I play. I get a fine Wes Montgomery thing going with it that subtly sets my leads apart from the crowd. The sound really inspires me into a traditional, swinging mode of phrasing. When I want to rock out and dip into the Hendrix/Beck sides of my musical personality I have found that if you play around with certain combinations to get something really wild and original from a variety of stompboxes, you can get that from this box. I've given up limiting what I can do with it and found that it can add depth to my wah sound or even my fuzz. I have yet to find a combination that sounds really bad.

Decent octave effect, tracked fairly well. Sounded fine with distortion pushing it. I traded for it to get the sound of "Beneath the Vally of the Underdog" by Mudhoney, and I pretty much got it. Mark Arm uses a BOSS OC-2, so there is some 2 ocatve down tones that this box can't do (this is a 1 octave down only box). But, it is decent. Not the best, but good if you don't use octave constantly.

I have meial them, and have received prompt reponses, so they get a high score, they should have a phone number, though. But, i can understand also why they would want to keep it a secret.

I have since traded away this box, but it was a good pedal for what it can be aquired for. A 6 out of 10 would be a fitting place for this pedal because as it is, the pedal is better than average, but there are better, but they drastically increase in price.

This is a good octave pedal. Not as good as BOSS' but better than nothing. I can the sound Tom Morello and Tim of Rage Against The Machine get from The Ghost Of Tom Joad really quick. But instead of getting a distorted octave you get a more bassy sound but if you use this with a distortion it sounds better. I use this with a delay and wah together which sounds great and I also use this with an Electric Mistress.

I think this pedal is pretty awesome no noise, sounds tight with other pedals. I wouldn't be suprised if Tim Bob uses this himself it sounds just like him. It sounds almost like the DOD Meat Box but the Meat Box has the real beef + meat hence the name and it has the real low end. Not to say that this pedal sucks it's actually great I love it. It's just doesn't have the low end octaver like a lot of others but that actually makes the pedal a little better if you don't want this to be heavy all the time. It also doesn't bust amps like the Meat Box has said to do before. If you want Tim Bob or hell even a deep Claypool sound as what I use it for when I use my fretless 7-string. Get this pedal. It's deep, bassy, and it's DOD!

This is to edit my previous entry. Now that I have done my repairs and maintenance work, I would regard this pedal as totally reliable, and I would use it without a backup.

Not hard. The tone control is very subtle, but then again it only affects the Ocatve tone. The manual for it is easy to read and understand, and give some sample settings. MAde in the U.S.A., no translation necessary.

No noise. The unit sometimes jumps the octave on low notes, and there is some theory to that, but I don't know what it is. The Octave sound is a little weaker than the Direct sound, but it can be adjusted. I use a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp.

I bought it used from somebody in non-working order. I took off the baseplate, removed the battery compartment, plugged it in, and it worked. The paper card glued to the baseplate came lose, and something probably shorted out. The battery leads didn't run through the compartment, but were instead wrapped around. The pots were dirty, and that could have been the problem, too. I just cleaned them out. I don't think that DOD has the best design for a footpedal, and they should probably take some hints from BOSS.

I like the sound, and although I don't have a place for it yet in my music, I would like to have an octave pedal in my setup. However, I would prefer to buy the BOSS model, because it does two octave divisions instead of just one, and the BOSS design is more reliable. I bought it with intentions of using it for spare parts, or possibly fixing it for resale, and that is exactly what I am doing now.

This is one of the easiest pedals to use. 3 knobs: Octave Level, Tone, and Direct Level.

When I have the Direct Level at about 10 o'clock, I can get a nice bass sound. When I have my amp on the gain channel, it sounds exactly like Tim Bob from RATM. Sometimes, though, the pedal starts to produce this worbelling sound when more than one or two strings are picked, but, it's tolerable. When I have the Direct Level turned up all the way, it sounds like there is a 300-pound bass player in my amp doubling my every note, it's great.

I play rhythm guitar in my band, and sometimes I have to play bass lines as well, so this pedal makes my job a little easier. I love the convenience of having Beelzebub jump out of my amp if I need him. Buy this pedal, the old-school DOD look is enough to buy it. That's all I have to say...Boy, I sure do like butts...

Pretty good. Doesn't screw up the fundamental tone. The tone on the octave is weird. Doesn't sound much like the input, but you can take advantage of this. If you turn the root all the way down and the octave all the way up it makes a cool reggae synth bass sound, although it is a bit quiet. The with a blend you can get a good bootsy sound. Finally, with both levels way up, it kind of distorts. Run it into an envelope filter for a cool techno kind of sound.

I use this box mainly with a bass. Pretty cool for some bootsy kinds of sounds. Also make good Tom Morrello guitar tones.

Bought it used and had to repair an input jack - they use special 1/4 inch phono jacks which may be difficult to obtain if you don't live near a major metropolitan center.

OK I guess - haven't tried any other octavers. I like the tone on single note leads but you have to be carefull using it or you'll produce a sonic mess.
