I must say this... I've been playing bass for only a month and just got this pedal after reading other reviews of it... But I am an Engineer and an avid music lover and I know good electronics when I hear it. I can't really compare it to other bass/guitar EQs but it sounds very good and is very cheap (in cost, not make.)

Very easy to use if you are used to using EQ knobs on stereos. Having 7 bands is perfect. Not to many... Not too few... Besides the 7 different bands it has an overall level control... Great for if you want to boost your bass frequencies and still keep the same volume level. For it's size and price it is perfect. It would be nice if you could save and switch between settings, adjust the frequency threshholds of each band, and name each setting on an LCD display (just kidding... that's getting carried away...) but now you are talking about some 400 plus dollar rack unit. Come on... give me a break... it's a pedal and it's perfect.

Easy to get a good sound... actually many good sound... incredible variety of tones from my already tone-flexible bass... and it does some wicked things to different effects (actually it is transparent as far as changing any tones or effects, which is good for an EQ, it only does it's own job... makes certain freqs prominent and others background music.) Find any 2 effects of the same type that you think sound pretty close to each other without EQ. Put this EQ before each one and play with the settings and it will quickly differentiate the 2 effects. This makes it perfect for tweaking individual effects. I plan on buying a few more for different parts of my signal chain.

Heck, this thing is so good for tones that they should just throw away plans for building EQs into SOME (not all) amps and include a cut out mounting place in the top of the Amp to permanently mount one of these.

Actually this thing is much more flexible and useful than the 3 band (actually 2 band - treble does nothing but add and remove hiss) EQ on my Fender Bassman 100. This thing will tweak effects. I wonder what it would do to a Tube Amp... some day I'll find out and report back to ya. Somebody should try to overdrive a tube amp with this. I am interested to know what it would do.

jgennaro@harris.com. Email me. NO SPAM, dummy! My internet dog will search you down and tear your bloody throat out!!!

No manual... Come on, it's an EQ, Stupidface. Geez...

Sound Quality : 10
I am using a Bass on this.... A Yamaha RXB-765A (Awesome bass...) and I have a variety of pedals (along with a bass POD) which I chose based on the reviews of this website along with a solid state Bassman 100 AMP (wonder if it sounds anything at all like the old silver/blackfaces... uh... probably not >:*-( I am not even much of a player yet, but I am really very experimental with my effects as I play over and over again the simplest bass lines and scales.

Not noisy AT ALL. Like I said above I will most likely buy a few of these. When I do, I will put like all 25 of them in a row with no other effects and turn them all on just to see if I can generate any noise or hiss. Probably will be unsuccessful... which is good.

This thing will make any instrument WITH good tones into an absolute
TONE MONSTER...... AAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!! Oh my GAWD!!! So many different sounds from a bass. Warning: (sirens in background) If you have a bad toned instrument it will probably enhance it's crapiness and make it sound worse... LOL...

Technically speaking, I would say that this thing boosts or cuts its different frequencies (see list of freqs in previous review) +/- 10 dB. Now that's just using my ears. It has a true bypass... I think. And sounds exactly like the true bypass when it's is switched on and all the levels are at zero. As a matter of fact if you turn all the bands down and the level up or vice versa, it sounds the same as the bypass. That means they didn't leave gaps of frequency coverage and that the individual bands are probably tweaked within a dB or 2 of each other the whole way from min to max. Very transparent in all respects to my ear.

Only a very slight hiss when you max out the 2 upper frequency knobs and minimize the rest, but I think it is just doing it's job... just amplifying the slight hiss from my pickups (which are very quiet for actives anyways... even according to reviews of similiar Yamaha basses.) If you have any problem with noise it's either your crappy instrument, noisy amp, or ungodly awful effects. >;-)

Not an effect, but makes effects overly flexible... joy... JOY!!!

I don't know how to get the sound of any artist yet. I can barely play the C major scale and I'm just starting to be able to transpose that onto say an A major scale on the fretboard... Gosh... I'm just hopeless... LOL

The ONLY thing bad about this is that Danelectro doesn't make some less than 400 hundred dollar EQ that has all of the options that I listed above in "ease of use"... (scratch the LCD display, of course... LOL)

I have a question... why do they ask twice what Amp you use in the ratings questionaire. Well, I'll just answer twice... A Fender Bassman 100... OKAY... YOU GOT A PROBLEM... BLAH!!!

Reliability : 9
It sure feels solid. Not enough experience stomping on effects to know yet.

But I'm a vey good steward of my valued possesions... heck even my unvalued ones... heck, even others unvalued stuff... now THAT is a rarity.... LOL... It will probably last me a very, very, very llllloooonnnnnnnnggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg ttttttttttttttttttttttiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeee!

Give it a 9 because it seems rugged... especially for only 30 dollars. Buy another one if you break it, cheapskate!!!

I don't gig yet... I just play C Major scales over and over again... LOL... Hey atleast I know what Phrygian and Mixolydian are... And No!!! they are not variations of Egyptian hieroglyphics.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't dealt with the company yet... but I hope to. Actually, it would be nice if they sent me some free pedals to review on this website... Then I would give them a 10 for customer support... for this particular customer anyways >;-) I would not however give them 10s on everything... Come on, I'm honest now. I actually took back their Pastrami Overdrive because it sucked... for bass anyways... it is a guitar pedal though... but DODs FX100 Integrated Tube (Overdrive I think) is a guitar pedal on clearance on DODs website and it is awesome for bass solos I'm sure. I would say it sounds better than the Ibanez TubeScreamer TS-7 on bass but the TS7 is more tonally (and abrasively) flexible and PROBABLY sounds better on a tube amp... Hey, by the way, does any manufacturer out there want to send me a free Tube Amp to rate against my solid state Fender Bassman 100... Come on... If a few of you offer then I will even be able rate you against each other. And I would give away the 2nd best to my musician friends, who are all better musicians than me so they will promote your product. Of course, first place will get my sparkling review... LOL

ANY serious offers... I am serious... email me at jgennaro@harris.com
Even if you are some technician noodling with pieces of Wahs, ring modulators, and leslies in your basement and you just want to get your name (your brand or your actual REAL name) on this site then email me. jgennaro@harris.com.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
This is definitely a good match for playing scales... And I'm sure for anything else too... VERY VERY SURE.

Only a month playing... but 25 years listening and I have alot of musical friends too.

Heck if somebody stole it, I would buy them another one and give it to them just for having good taste in stolen goods. Also, if they stole it, then they must be REALLY REALLY low on cash, so they probably need more free stuff to use or sell... $30 each... I'll take 5 please.

I love it's flexibility by itself, and the flexibility that it brings to EVERY other piece of good gear that you own. I could get the good "Sub Dub" Amp sound that is in my bass POD with this pedal alone. I don't hate anything about it. It even looks cool... My favorite feature is that EVERY freq band changes the tone of EVERY position on the fretboard of my 5 string bass, from low B to high G, unlike the EQ in my Amp Cabinet (My cab has a good old bass boost and sweepable midrange, and a treble that does nothing at all.) This EQ has enough transparent gain in the level knob to probably make a passive pickup into an active one. Cool, another use... a cheap preamp that sounds good and looks cool...

I will eventully compare it to other EQs, but I chose this one first based on the rave reviews.

A tone monster like I said. Awesome for bass even though it is not specified for bass. If they make a bass model, it would be cool to have like a 40 Hz frequency band below the current base of 100 Hz.

Please send me free stuff to review... jgennaro@harris.com

If you know a graphic EQ, its simple, if not, fittle with the sliders until you understand, no instruction book supplied, but not really needed either.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this pedal with my half stack with a peavy head, and thru crate amp and into my computer for low volume or recording. An EQ is like no other pedal, instead of adding a cool effect or distortion it makes all one's cool effects or distortions sound better, or more tweaked to whatever one's likings are. This pedal does that. I can't get over how crappy my supra distortion pedal sounds without an EQ. But with an EQ it beats any other distortion pedal out there, and the danelectro EQ is quiet and does its job. I spent $30 on the EQ and $30 on the supra, thats a $60 distortion pedal that would be well worth the money (esp compared to say a $90 metal zone) but I can use the EQ with all of my distortions and effects so its even more a punch in the face. This EQ really jumps out of your pants to say hello.

Reliability : 7
Its plastic, kind of tiny but all my mini-pedals have so far held up, plus they are cheep anyways so whatever.

This an easy pedal.

Sound Quality : 9
The sound is alright and somewhat impressive...100Hz for deep-bass,
200Hz for muddy-bass, 400Hz for hollow-mid, 800Hz for center-mid,
1.6Khz for upper-mid, 3.2Khz for screechy-trebble, and 6KHz for
all the rest of treble which is pretty good (OK) for FUZZ having
a wide-band...unlike 31-band-EQ's with each band being narrow and
thin, this is great...I also use this pedal for pre-EQ to clarify
my raw-guitar-tone-before-distortion; Guitar>EQ>COMPRESSION>FUZZ>
to another EQ, just email-me and I will tell you how this-will and
will-not work...BE-CAREFUL!!!

Reliability : 8
It's more solid and heavy-weighted than you would expect...With a
solid metal plate on the bottem...MORE THAN YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM
AN AFFORDABLE MINI PEDAL...

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
I wish it was centered on some other frequency-bands of my choice...
Still, this is very effective in cutting and boosting with alot of
dynamic-range...It cannot notch out frequencies, but it can silence
them good enough...This can also over-do frequencies when boosted
and under-do some as well...This still PUTS 31-BAND-GRAPHIC-EQ's TO
SHAME with their NARROW/THIN-BANDS...This unit has WIDE-BANDS which
sounds more safer and crispier CLOSE-TO-PERFECT...

Ease of Use : 10
Easy.If you have a general idea of EQ this little thing is an absolute breeze to operate.Even if you don't know anything about a graphic EQ it is still very simple.

Sound Quality : 9
The sound quality of the pedal is amazing! It is very effective as a mid-boost,level boost, and fine-tuner of tone. When I bought it I had originally planned to use it after my Mesa/Boogie V-Twin but after trying it in front of the V-Twin I decided to use it there as a mid/gain/volume boost. Then I just went out and bought a second one to put after the V-Twin.Word of warning:If you put the pedal BEFORE distortion it will hiss and be noisy but not to the point of trouble. If you put it AFTER distortion it is very quiet. These pedals are the best thing that you can buy for your sound next to a new amp or guitar.

Reliability : 7
Well....just don't stomp on the fuckin thing and it should be good.

Overall Rating : 10
The Fish and Chips is the best investment I've made in the last year for my sound. It deserves alot of credit because it gives you the EXACT same effect as the Boss GE-7 and the DOD 7-band for half of the price. It really makes up for its possibly questionable reliability due to its sound quality and price.

Its an EQ, just slide the bars to what you want. No manual.

It is easier to use then the DOD EQ because the level is on the right side, and the Fish & Chips sounds MUCH BETTER.

Sound Quality : 10
Very quiet. Much better then the DOD EQ. Good sound of this little pedal. Its cute, too.

Reliability : 7
Its made of plastic, but it should stand up to most anything. As long as you don't drop kick it, it should be fine. I wouldn't worry of a back-up.

There isn't a metal lining inside the pedal, may interfere with other electronics though...

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them...

Overall Rating : 9
Over all, sounds really good. Danelectro made this well for being so small. I was surprized that it beat the DOD EQ hands down (price and sound). Really livens any sound you put through it.

I have always had good luck with Danelectro, and DOD, but I thought that DOD would win because of name, and price.

Very easy to use. Just adjust the sliders.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Fender Custom Shop strat into a Mesa/Boogie Mk IV. I have a wide variety of pedals in a complicated setup where some are located between the guitar and the amp and some are in the effects loop of the amp. Because fuzzes, distortions, wahs and envelope controlled filters tend to need EQ behind them, and because I have a branched series/parallel signal chain, I needed to provide variable amounts of EQ at various places in the signal chain. I got tired of plugging and unplugging my MXR EQ, so I went out and bought FIVE of the Fish & Chips units in order to permanently place EQ at a number of critical places in my signal chain.

This EQ pedal is exceptionally quiet. It blows away my MXR 6-band EQ. In addition to offering a 7th band (not much practical use) it offers a LEVEL control, which is VERY useful for balancing signals, overdriving inputs to tube preamps, etc.

The pedal is very clean, very quiet, and very transparent. It provides exceptional value for the money. I hate to think about how much I would have spent if I had gone out and bought a bunch of Boss, DOD, or MXR EQs. This one also has the added benefit of having a 9-VDC input so batteries will never be a problem.

Reliability : 10
Seems reliable enough. In my setup its used as a tone shaping and balancing tool in a permanent installation, and isn't out on the floor where it could be stomped on. I doubt that reliability will ever be a problem

Customer Support : 10
I had problems with a Cool Cat once, and Dano sent me a brand new pedal, no questions asked.

Overall Rating : 10
An exceptional value for the money. Very useful in tweaking your tone. Absolutely essential for the heavy metal distortion sound, and very useful for overall tone shaping. The fact that this pedal sounds so good and is priced so low makes it one of the best bangs for the bucks in stompboxes.

WIth a few guitars but mostly a Brian Moore C-55P
This is my 4th Eq pedal and the least expensive, and guess what
It's the best one I have ever heard
It puts my Boss, DOD Ibanez and rolls to shame Very Clean!!

Nothing complicated here. Just put a smiley face on it and adjust the level.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a Bogner Shiva ,Fish & Chips, Prescription Electronics Germ, Tuna Melt Trem, Morley Vai Wah, H&K Tube Rotosphere, Rocktron Intellifex, Fulltone Ultimate Octave and a Fender Jimmie Vaughan Strat w/Bardens. Perfectly quiet operation. It sounds exactly the same when the EQ is flat. Each band is a usable frequency + or -.
Cool thing is it's loud enough to use as a boost w/ your favourite
EQ setting(scooped mids or mid-boost). It doesn't screw w/ my Shiva's georgous tone

Reliability : 5
I had my Dan-echo go out on me because of a crappy jack input. I assume the same parts are at work here, but my trem is hangin' in there and so far so good.

ON the warranty card the dano people ask for a Serial #. Good luck finding one. If the pedal lasts for a couple a years I'll be cool w/ that.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 15 yrs. and I am relentless in tone tweaking. This box helps me to put the glistening, crunchy icing on the cake with no wierd tonal events. I play American Rootsy Music. I would have liked to try a Parametric EQ,but I couldn't find one in my little po-dunk township. I gig a lot and rely on my stuff to werk. I'd definately buy another if one of my in-bred relatives tried to eat it.
